001All right, we will go ahead and call the budget hearing to order. Um do we have we don't do the agenda until we go to >> So when we start the budget hearing uh we need to look at needs assessments. We also need to look at our a couple of our forms our form 150 um in our budget packet as well and then also state assessment scores. I'm going to give you guys kind of a rundown on state assessment scores. uh it looks exactly the same as it looked last year because the state assessment scores for the spring of 2025 have not been released yet. So when you pull that document up whenever we get to it, it'll look exactly the same as last year. Once we do get those test scores, we'll update that

002and give you guys a give you guys a um a rundown of where we stand in our on our state testing scores. So our hope is there we're going to be released last week and now it sounds like it's going to be maybe a little farther to the end of the month before they're released. So, I do want to spend a little bit of time going over our form 150. So, if you click on the first document and scroll down to on our budget hearing packet, [Music] I believe it's the fourth page. That's our 150 page. Just to spend a little bit of time on this, uh, our first line is our FTE enrollment number. So, we try to pad that number in case we have anybody between now and the start of uh our

003count days on September 22nd. So, we're going to start off at 420 um at our FT enrollment. Right now, we're at 408. So, we've gained a few kids already from where we thought we were going to be at the end of last week. So, a little bit of a concern for me just because I wish it would I wish we would have patted it just a little bit more, but I think we're going to be in good shape where we're at with that number. Um, so at 408, that does not count the 60 preschool kids that we have throughout the district. So, between Wilson Elementary and Central Plains Elementary, we're right to 60 and we try to estimate about half of those kids will be um at risk kids. So that's where we got our

00412 number for for a total FT enrollment of 432. So I do want to turn your guys's attention to line number 13. And I want to be very very clear on this number guys. It it's probably there's probably a 99% chance that we're going to have to to republish the budget throughout this year. Whenever we talked to Graduation Alliance and we were um under the understanding that with a new school in Kansas with Graduation Alliance, they were going to split our credits between us and the new school. So last year we put 3600 credits and we put 3,000 credits down for our budget this year, estimating that we were going to be lower than that. That way we would have enough of a cushion. But whenever we got our August numbers and our July numbers,

005we had 3,200 credits last year. In August, we were about 60 credits higher than what we were last year. And we were about 60 credits higher in July, July and August, than we were last year. So, at this point, right now, we're 120 credits more than we were last year. And we were at 3,200 credits last year. So, we did call Graduation Alliance to visit with them about that and they said a lot of times it just depends on how many credits the kids need to take. I say kids, adults need to take whenever they come into that program. So, we're going to we're going to make sure we monitor that really closely. But there is a chance, a high chance in December or January if things keep projecting that direction, we will have to

006republish the budget to encumber the amount of money that we're going to encumber to pass it on the flow through graduation alliance. So, I just want to be really clear about that. Do you guys have any questions about that side of it with graduation alliance and the virtual side on where we're at? Okay. And if you keep going through page 150 and you get to the page page the third page of form 150, you're going to see that table four is where we pop those credits in. So on table four, line number three, we estimated 3,000 credits. But like I said, if we're still projected on where we're at after 2 months, we're looking at maybe it being around 3,600 credits instead of 3,000 credits. So, um, I just wanted to be really, really transparent

007with that so you guys had an understanding of what that look like. Any questions on our FTEES or our student count as of right now and what our expectations are? Okay. Uh just so you're aware too, last year our final audited legal max number was about for our general fund was about 6.8 million. Right now we're projecting our number to be about 7.3. Um which when we get to our audit, the legal max will be a little bit lower than that, but depending on where we fall with graduation alliance, we could be right around that 7.3. So okay. Okay, so that's 4150. The next I do want to spend a little bit of time on the next document that we have uploaded on there, our capital needs assessment. I'm going to double check and make

008sure that that's our next. So on that document, we do have um each school broken down. The items that are highlighted are items that we're already working on or have put some time in. So looking at Hollywood, some of the needs assessment items, more space for students, classrooms, cafeteria, restrooms, continue with flooring of the facility, gym floor finished. Uh looking at the possibility of some sort of a walk-in freezer at some point. One item that's on the wish list would be some sort of a bigger garage with vehicles, roof repairs. We continue to work on roof repairs at each building. um we kind of have already in place the we've looked at the copy machines upgrade throughout the district but some of the other items we have some inside classroom doors we need to fix

009exhaust fans for bathrooms we'll be looking at lawnmowers as well uh playground drainage and then our our tornado shelter there as well so the highlighted items that I touched on are items that we already have in place that we've worked on just a little bit uh Wilson Elementary School one of the big items is our air conditioning system just continue to add where we see a for air conditioning. We've talked a little bit about seeing what the cafeteria looks like. Um, but that could be an issue where we are going to need to maybe add a split unit or two if our electric electrical capabilities allow us to in that in that cafeteria area. So, continue parking classrooms. We're working on the roof leaks in multiple places in the library and also the foundation. Uh

010some of the other items they want to look at is a sprinkler system at some point, refinishing some of the parking lots, repainting um some of the gym front LED lights, continue to upgrade those, and then upgrading coffee machines throughout the district. And then Central Plains High School Middle School um continue to mitigate any of the asbestous and the flooring tile that we have. We did a huge project this summer and got a lot of the um ceiling tiles out. actually not a lot of them all of them and replaced with new cement tiles in it. Water valves throughout the whole building in our tunnels boring the facilities. One item that I don't have uh highlighted that we do need to touch on our AC units here in the high school are to the point

011where some of them are so old they can't get replacement parts. Uh we had Kmers come out this past week and look at the um one above the office and that one's so old right now they can't buy any replacement parts for that unit. So, we're really going to have to take a look at some of those AC units at the high school and middle school as well. Uh, still looking at um practice field, sprinkler system, space for students, gym floor sanded and refinished. We talked about that a little bit. This next rotation next year, that gym floor will need to be taken down all the way to the wood to be refinished from from the base all the way up. Visitor bleachers, lights on football field, continue painting, exterior, gym lights. We are putting

012some work in on the retaining wall. Um, we've talked a little bit about a walk-in the walk-in freezer, coffee machines, the water heaters, and then we we need to take a look at what we need to do to clean out storage area for tornado shelter here at the high school middle school to provide room there. So, any questions on some of the needs assessments that we have throughout the the district? Is that walk-in fridge still working? >> It is still working. >> And we talked about that a little bit, Dalton. Uh the door, don't hold me to this number, but I think to replace the door and the seal on it, it's going to be $12,000. Uh to replace the whole thing does have rust in the side of it. I think we talked about

013that and the hole in the side of it. Um it's about $30,000 just to replace the whole thing. So, um it is still working as of right now, but it'll be something when we get this year rolling a little bit further down the line, we'll need to need to try to address that. So, Okay. So, the next document on there is the the testing scores. And again, it has 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 is blank. And like I said, we will replace those whenever we get our uh state assessment scores and report back to the board on what those look like. We did break down each building um in a little bit further depth on the need assessment um with the student headcount at the first of the year. Um also the different percentages

014and the different student toteer ratio in each one. So I'll let you guys have a little bit of time to look at that in the curriculum as well. We are talking about some different curriculum needs throughout the district. Um, one thing that we're working on with our KISSA component is trying to align um, we're trying to align our expectations for collaboration and curriculum throughout the district and and we'll have to present that to you guys for our KISSA goals. We're going to next upcoming board members to board meetings to present that to KSD in November for our KISSA improvement day. So, um, we're working on some different components of curriculum. It does talk about a a little bit of our atrisisk population building as well. >> How long does it take to get a curriculum

015decided, approved, implemented? How long does that normally take? >> It really depends what curriculum it is, whether you're reading, social studies. Um, you know, with the direction we're trying to move in this district to try to make it the same and everybody have their own equal piece of what their thoughts are, it's a little bit little bit tougher to try to get all the components together for that. Um, you know, whenever we were some of the districts we were at before, you were looking anywhere from 6 to 8 months probably to go through the whole process here with all the different the buildings in the different, you know, different regions of the district. We found it a little tough just to be able to get everybody together on the same page. [Music] Where is your

016question? There's several that are lack of like appreciate the culture historical heritage that ever be added or I know we're talking K through sixth grade but So where we find holes in our curriculum, those are things that when once we get our piece of plan kind of together and what the collaboration looks like we'll address. Um Miss Moore, do you have anything you'd like to add on those items on the Wilson um curriculum for the needs assessment where >> it says that we have a lack of curriculum for those things? Yeah, we just don't have an updated science and social studies program. So those two things need to be addressed. So we have some minimum things that we're doing. We're doing fine for now. We really need, you know, a more solid instruction. Anyone else

017have any other questions? This is also a time if there are any uh public comment or questions regarding the budget. hearing. None. I would entertain a motion to adjourn the 2526 budget hearing at this time. >> So moved. Motion by Josh >> and second by Kayla. All those in favor say I. >> I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes 6. Okay. I will now call our regular meeting to order. And the first item on the agenda is approval of the agenda which we do have a change we need to make. So, um, per board approval, we'd like to include item number 12 that you'll find on there. That's a facility request for funeral services. So, um, the board would so choose. We would like to amend the agenda just to include item number. >> Make

018the motion. >> Motion by Chad. >> Second by Josh. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any oppose? the same sign. Motion passes 6. And item number four is the budget approval. So, just a quick um item directly in motion from KD is to include the review of the state assessments. Um there's a lot of districts that are a little on the edge just with that because we don't have updated state assessment scores. So, um, you know, with the scores that are on there, we can say that we did review the state assessment scores that we have. Um, but the updated ones we don't have right now. Just kind of keep that in thought. After review the state assessments that we have and the needs assessments and move to approve as motion by

019Caleb. >> Second by Josh. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes 6. Item number five, our local option budget resolution. So our local bud bud local option budget resolution we set at 33% which is what we have traditionally done in the past all the way through. So you have that document on there for you guys's approval if you see fit. Just a reminder, this is kind of what we talked about before. So, staying under revenue neutral. So, I would entertain a motion to approve the resolution to adopt the 33% for the local option budget for the 2526 school year. >> Motion by Josh. >> Second by Chad. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any oppose? same sign. Motion passes 6. Item number six is

020approval of the minutes from the 81125 meeting. Those have been on there for you to be able to review. Any questions, comments, changes. >> Motion by Kayla, >> second by Josh. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. 6. And approval of the treasures report which is here for you to look at. >> Got all that. >> Thank you. Motion by Caleb. >> second by Josh. All those in favor say I. >> I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. 6. >> Item number eight, approval of the invoices. Mr. Murphy, is there anything you would like to draw our attention to? >> Yeah, we do have a couple on there. One, the concrete pad that's on there that was for Hollywood. Um, we did get donations for part of

021that, but that was prior year incumbrances. We did get that on last year's budget. Uh, then some of the other ones I want to draw your attention to are CKCIE, which is our special education assessment through our cooperative. It's changed a little bit to four times a year. So, that $106,000 on there for our sped assessments. And we do have our graduation alliance billable credits. It was for 227,000 for the past month. We did complete the uh fencing that needed to happen um at Wilson Elementary School for our daycare. So, that one's on there as well. And then we did uh go ahead and move forward with paying our uh yearly a little bit more than yearly actually um cost for the Plum Creek Apartments for our daycare in Hollywood. That will actually be through

022January of 2027 now. So through January 2027 and then that gives us some time once we get the ball rolling next year uh depending on what the board so chooses to do with the the Hollywood unit um to be able to get that in place and then if we uh decide to move to daycare we have a little bit of time before we have to be out of there. So those were some of the big ticket items on our invoices for this past month. You can see how the reports change. >> Yeah, >> the new age. And I'm still smiling. >> Any further questions, comments? Hearing none, I would entertain a motion to approve the invoices as presented. >> Also move. >> Motion by Josh. >> Second. Second by Chad. All those in favor say

023I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes. 6. And the reconciliation and cash balances report is on there for you to review. And this will be the last time it looks like this. It's going to change next month. So, not sure what it's going to look like, but we're going to hope that that everything matches the bank with the cash summary. Nicole. >> And item number 10, recognition visitors. >> Let me check and see if anybody [Music] going. >> I'll stay here since it's hard to get out. Uh, thank you to the board and administration for putting in a time slot for our church, St. Falls Church in Hollywood to entertain your staff with a welcome pack. We enjoy that every year and we hope we thank the teachers enjoyed as well. So,

024thank you for putting in that time slot. >> Well, thank you for doing that for appreciate that. >> Okay. Item number 11, administrative reports. Our cash balances match the reconciliation reports. Our enrollment numbers are right at 237. We're one up from the last time when I reported um last month. Uh let's see. We're all back to school. Everybody, everything's going strong again. We've hit the ground running. Our back to school night was very successful. We had lots of parents attend. We had many families that were reconnecting with teachers and it was just fun to see all the kids back in the building again. That was very exciting. We are halfway through our beginning of the year testing. Um we use that information to help guide our educational decisions along the way. Our basketball court is

025a big hit. We needed that space especially after it rained today. Um we're working on some drainage issues. Abee's been out to help us with that, but um it's been a hit for the kids just as extra places to play. Um so that's very nice for us to have that. Um we do have quite a few teachers that will be going to the funeral on Friday. We um we've all been there long enough that we probably most of us had Philip at some time so at some point, but we do have it covered. Um, so it was really nice for the teachers that were not able to or didn't have a close connection to go ahead and step up and cover for those classes. That was that was very nice. We do have a lot

026of uh things coming up. We we've already had our dental screenings. We've already gone to on a field trip for the fourth graders have gone to a day. We have teachers going for letters training. This is um we're almost have all of our teachers trained after this. Um, Taylor Simpson got out of it for this next time because she had a baby this morning. So, we were excited to to introduce Collie into our or not Collie um Coulson into our school family. Our book fair books arrived today right in the middle of the rain. So, luckily Brent was there to help us unload that and I think he probably the delivery driver probably drove a little bit slower to get there just so that he didn't have to unload right in the middle of the

027downpour. We start bookf fair bingo tomorrow. Teachers have made bingo cards. Every day Denise Kimy, the librarian, will announce certain books and they can mark them off their bingo card. The first class to have a blackout will win posters for each kid in the classroom. And then that'll take us clear till the book fair on September 15th. Um it's from 3:45 to 7:00. Our kindergarten will be going to the Claplin Community Center and to the comm to the Hollywood Legion on September 18th. We have picture day already. We have um count day. Thank goodness for Kaen and all of her help for count day already. I'm learning a lot. Um we have September 22nd where the third or the prek through 2 grade will um enjoy the older kids coming down for a in the

028classroom. That's always a great experience for both our kids as well as our a kids too to come and share. We have hearing screenings coming up on the 22nd of September. Our fifth graders will be going to Starbase. That is a STEM program for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Our three-year-olds will have a family event. This is where the families get to come in and learn what their kids are doing in the classroom. Um, we will not have preschool on the 26th. That's a day for the preschool teachers to plan and change out all of their curriculum for the next for their next units. On September 29th, we do have our inservice and we will be doing some dyslexia training. We will also be working with or meeting with the DT team. Um we'll have

029a faculty meeting and some PLC's in the afternoon. Our first and second graders are going to go to the Salina Theater and see Pete the Cat. And October 3rd, our kindergarters are going to have goodies with grands. Um we have a October 4th the grade school has signed up to help with concession stand. That is the same night as homecoming. The money that we raise will go towards more student activities. We have the second graders going to Wetlands Day at the Kansas Wetlands Educational Center and on October 8th. Um and then we'll be planning some field trips to the fire department the week of October 5th through the 10th. So right now we just we've all worked together and it's been a pretty smooth transition so far. Um it's been nice that I was already

030in the building to go from the classroom to it to this different position. So that's that's been helpful and everybody's been great to work with. So that's all I have. Thank you. You guys have any questions for me. Good evening everyone. It's a nice welcome back like them. They must be in the water. Um, Saturday morning we welcomed Andrew Clemena Lobble. So he was born at 2:11 in the morning just a few hours after his dad's birthday. So I thought that was pretty cool. So we're excited as well. Mom and baby and everyone are doing very well. Um, beginning in September, we started pennies for Karen. I had to kind of chuckle because this has become quite the story. Um, those kids are coming in jingle jingle jingle jingle everywhere with all this money. So,

031it's been fun to watch them. On night three, we had the dental screenings. Our daycare opens tomorrow and it looks really good with the new carpeting and new paint and everything. It's all ready to go. We're not full yet. Um, we do um have hopes that we will get it full pretty quickly. We did find out we are DCS certified now, so that's a big deal. That'll help a lot with a lot of our families that struggle with daycare expenses. Um, we're also having all school hearing checks tomorrow on the 17th. Prethe will be with us. On the 18th, there'll be fall pictures. Again, on as Shay stated, on the 29th WM service or or mirroring theirs very similar. Um, then on the 29th also, we'll through the the 10th of October, we'll have some

032spirit week as we've done in the past. So there'll be um this year um it's we have farm um is our theme and so everything's about farming and so all the kids will be working on things for the farm. As far as our building goes um Larry's there and he is working to update a lot of the lighting fixtures in our building so they'll run more efficiently. Um like I said the flooring in the daycare has been replaced and the work will start on September 18th on the foundation to help get that fixed. I noticed um today there was just a little bit of water and as hard as it rained to just have just that little bit hopefully that and it dried up pretty quickly. It was just against the foundation wall, not dripping

033from the ceiling. We checked to make sure none of the tiles or anything were wet. Um I did give you a class spotlight. Um the fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Deppel, shared that along with our academics, we've also been working on our team building and cooperation skills. They had to lower a hula hoop and I shared some pictures. It was pretty comical. They had to lower a hula hoop to the ground and throw the tower using an in using index cards, but could only use the card when they came up with something they all had in common. So, it was pretty cool. Um, our enrollment um were up to 71 and I do have the potential hopefully of two foster children coming in um in October. We're still waiting to hear for confirmation of that, but

034they've reached out to us to make sure we could take them and believe we have one new preschooler as of today. So that gives us 9 and 3k. So um yeah, so things are going in a very positive direction. Any questions for me? [Music] All right. Um my current enrollment is 154 in the building. Um after tomorrow it will be 156 total. Um we do have some new technology in our building. We got um new huddle cameras this last year. We went away from NHS um and went with Huddle. So we have a new camera in the gym and at the football game can control that. I just started it for the JV game tonight um for my computer. So it's nice to be able to have that technology to do that. Um we did

035get that those new gym controls for the thermostat. If you remember, we couldn't do anything besides the little thing on the side that the kids thought that they should mess with, too. So, now I can control the gym temperature from my phone as well. It's really nice. Um, this summer when we had people in the gym using it, it's really hot in here. I could just turn it on um with from my phone. So, that's really handy. Um Tim and I can do that. Um we also got some clear touch new clear touch boards for um some classrooms. So, the teachers are busy learning their new technology. Um, I just have a couple of things to talk about with CTE. We do have lots of kids who are taking our career and technical education classes.

036Our um, construction classes and welding classes have lots of students in them. We were able to add a drafting class this year. Um, so we have several students in there. Um, some of them want to be engineers, some of them want to be interior designers. So, I think that's really good for them to be able to kind of get their feet wet um, in there. So um in addition to um our CTE having lots of numbers, we joined that new consortium um we well we got kicked out of that they dissolved and so we are in a consortium with Russell Otis Bison and Lacrosse. Um and our plan is to split the pool of money that we have. So we kind of put our wish list items in. We have received everything that was on

037our wish list today in the mail or yesterday. Oh, Monday, Friday in the in um UPS delivered a artificial cow. They can like simulate birth. Um and then a cat spaying kit. I mean, they're not live, but they're like simulation tools that we'll be able to share. Um and I think that's really exciting for our programs. We got a um really expensive new camera for our yearbook program. Our fax program got all new pots and pans um for each of the kitchens and the construction was able to get a I'm going to say it wrong. I'll say it wrong and it's it's something a drill press kind of thing. So, um really cool that we got able we were able to get all that with that consortium money. Before we had like $1,500 in that

038other consortium each year. So, this is going to give us a lot more opportunity to upgrade some things. Um, so I'm excited for that. Um, we'll continue to look for offerings for our students. We still have that junior high ELA position that we'll um continue to try to fill so that we can offer even more um elective classes for our students and not just CTE. Um, I included my athletic numbers for the sports that are starting. Um, we have lots of kids out. um for junior high and high school. So, you can kind of look through those numbers um and just kind of remember those sometimes change daily in these first couple weeks as we get going. Um but all activities have begun and they're off to a great start. My counselor's report will begin

039no walk Wednesdays um this month for our social emotional learning. Uh we do that on Wednesdays where the kids once they get to their classroom, they don't go anywhere. they stay they don't like get to go and um go to somebody else's class for homework help or something. They stay in their classroom and they do a lesson. Miss Ham, Miss Bailey is working on putting together videos for them to go through. Um and then sophomores and juniors will attend a career expert expo in Hutchinson coming up here. Thank you. Okay, item number 12, the facility list. >> So, I contacted each of you um this past weekend be able to make this official. So, Philip Doner's funeral scheduled for Friday, September 12th at 10:30 a.m. The family is requesting facility usage for Friday. Um we

040do need a board motion to be able to approve that. um talking to each one of you that I was able to communicate with this week this weekend. I wanted to go ahead and get that on there for official motion. Um being able to do that though, the next motion after that is we would not be able to have classes at the middle school high school though. Um, also at the preschool at the Central Plains Elementary School, we have an uh you pretty good size amount of our bus drivers that want to go to that funeral and they can't do transportation in the middle of the day for preschool kids and still attend the funeral. So, um, moving that direction, we would still have school at Central Plains Elementary School with the exception of preschool.

041And then, um, at Wilson, we would have school as normal. And then here at the high school, middle school, we would not have classes. Transportation would still run exactly the same. And then also our activities for Friday night would still be able to be. So, um, two different recommended motions on the facility request for you guys. >> I do want to extend our sincerest condolences to Jeff and Megan and Joanna Doniker. the rest of Phil's family and friends [Music] to approve Central High School on Friday. >> I'll second. >> Motion by Kayla and a second by Josh. All those in favor say I. >> I. I. >> Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. 6 >> motion to approve no school at Central Queens High School Middle School and preschool at Central Queens Elementary School Friday,

042September 12th. >> Second motion by Kayla and a second by Josh. All those in favor say I. >> I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes 6. Item number 13, our facility dedication. >> So, we do have um a couple of different entities coming to visit with you and visit with us about the idea of naming a few of our facilities. So, I think we do have some members of the central plains PTO, right? Yeah. >> Here to visit with you guys briefly and then we do have Mr. Toby Holmes here to visit with you after you're done as well. So, I'll turn it over to you guys. Good evening. My name is M. I have Laura Miller and Cara Hoffman with me. And on behalf of the Central Plains Elementary Parent Teacher Organization, we have

043two dedication requests that we'd like to talk to you about. the first one being for the new playground basketball court uh to be named uh for Jane Oer and we wanted to really show our appreciation for her support and dedication over her 30 years here with uh the community in the district. We really think that she truly impacted a lot of students and faculty staff just the community overall and thought that would be a good pairing for it. Uh secondly, we would really like to build a playground football goalpost that could also be utilized as a soccer goal as well. And we would like to that that to be a memorial for Brody Fluhoff. And when we were trying to think of a dedication for Brody, we wanted to pair something that he loved, football,

044the students, recess, just being with his friends and having all those memories. and we wanted to pair it with something that would be a good reminder with everybody for everybody to live, love, and laugh like Brody. So, those are our two dedication requests and thank you for your time and your consideration and we'd be happy to answer any questions or elaborate if needed. >> You said it's a combination. >> Yes. So, it would be like an H instead of a Y shape. It would be an H. And the on the bottom half we could do like a soccer goal if the kids kids wanted to play soccer or um you know >> Yes, ma'am. Yes. >> Did you have um were you guys thinking of actually like doing like a dedication day or anything like

045that or just >> Yes, we wanted to have like a ribbon cutting dedication. invite her family and friends and um talk about her. And then we have plaques >> to go on the goals >> that go on the go. >> And I I have a picture of it. I know it's Oh, they're in your car. >> Um they're like street signs, aluminum signs, and they name this Ore's court. And then they have a saying that she liked that says children spell time. Children spell love time. T I M E. So that was her favorite. >> Yeah. And there'll be one on each goal >> on on the new goals. >> Any other questions? >> Thank you guys. Thank you so much. >> Thank you so much. >> And then Mr. Holmes is here um to

046talk about another facility dedication that he would like to recommend from the community. Um just to kind of give you guys a little background on this. The the court high school basketball court is going to have to be sanded down. >> So just kind of keep that in mind as he's visiting with you guys about this as well. I was uh talking to uh Mrs. Murphy one day and she said that they're going to have to sand the basketball courts down because it's been several years since since we've done that. And I said it'd be kind of neat if we could maybe put Styles family gym on there. I mean, I most of you know uh that Pat has been here for 30 plus years uh in every capacity as a coach, as an AD,

047as a teacher, as a you name it. Pam has put in numerous hours as uh making hospitality rooms, volunteering, doing everything. You all know Jackie. She kind of put Claflin on the map for girls basketball and all the kids have have contributed greatly to the scholarship funds to anything that's asked from them. Uh they are beyond I don't even know. They're they're humble people and Pat would be not happy with me if I was if he knew I was in here to say that, you know, we need to honor them somehow. But, uh, I would appreciate your your consideration to name it the Styles family gym or whatever you decide, but I think something should be recognized for their contribution to this school and this community. So, thank you. I mean, I I don't have

048anything to show. I'm not prepared like the ladies, but if you have questions, I'd be glad to answer them if I could. >> Okay. I think I know the answers, but I'm not sure. Did Pat did he was he from Wilson? >> Yes. Graduated from Wilson at 74. >> So did Pam. >> And so is Pam. Yeah. >> Uh has been here 30 however many years. I don't know. Well, I'm >> 81 or two. >> Yeah. >> Over 40. >> Is it 40? See, I'm old, too. I don't remember. >> so if we look at that, is that possibly because I I remember we were talking about if they send it down, they're going to have to remark everything. Is that something that maybe they can do or we would have to do you think

049we would have to bring in somebody different to do that? the company that we would have come in and do that. We would with whatever the board decided to do, we would have them whether it's Styles Family Court or whatever, create a design on the side. Okay. >> Um, and I know in in South Gray they did it with the Applegate family just recently. I don't know if you're familiar. Well, they they beat us in the third place games that South Gray did this past year, but they renamed theirs um Applegate Family Corp or Mark and >> Mark and Mindy >> Mark and Mini Apple Court. on the side. They did his signature on the side and then it just said I think and his white cord and they did it like on both sides.

050It would be something that we would have to if the board decided to move that way just tie into the new painting of the lines and everything and the design that you guys approved on. >> Thank you for your considerations. Appreciate >> you. So, I did not put any recommended motions down here because I wanted to give you guys some time to think about each one separately because we would need uh recommended motions on each one. So, I don't know if you guys want to talk about now or you want to table it till the next board meeting or how you guys want to handle each one of those separately or if you feel comfortable making a recommended motion for each one separately at this time or just to open the floor discussion. We'll go

051ahead and see if anybody has any comments or questions or thoughts, but I think definitely we can move forward at least with the elementary school, but I think we could probably move forward with general general motions either way. >> Put two goalposts >> at like roies. >> Yeah, >> it was just going to be one. Um, yeah, just one. >> And have you guys picked a spot or >> No, not really. We wanted to talk to you and make sure it was okay that we we went with it and then um we kind of were working with Taylor and Brent Brent, right? And they were kind of discussing placement. Um, but I I'm not quite for sure the details on that. Well, it'd be kind of nice if it did get in a spot that

052maybe potentially there could be two. >> Uh, you know what Dalton was saying like is there one or is there two? >> I mean, we could possibly do two. Yeah, we really could. We haven't really went through the logistics of it yet. Like, are we going to do like we've seen it done with PVC pipe, but we've also seen it done like metal ones. So, we're kind of >> we we want to make sure that whatever we put there is going to um you know hold and be a good quality. >> So, if that means we just do one to start with and then build the second. >> Yeah. >> Did you guys have a date for ribbon cutting as What's uh >> I mean if we postpone the vote until October. >> Oh, we

053don't have a >> No, we don't have a date. >> How do you know? We already >> Yeah, >> we're just waiting on the approval and then we can all I don't have a problem with either one. You know, of course, Pats, I would like to see how much more it was would be costing. I don't I would hope that it wouldn't be that much more if they're already >> paying. I don't want to I don't want to >> underell it with that. You got to come up with exactly what >> the design you guys. So, I would entertain a motion to go ahead and approve the dedication of the basketball court and as well as goalpost in honor of Jane Oer and Brody Fluof at Central Plains Elementary School. >> Motion by Chad, second

054by Kayla. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. I'm going to go ahead in a motion kind of separate just a little bit because basketball courts and goalpost for Jay Noer and I'm going to put Jay Noer after the courts and then Brody after the is that okay that way it can be it's more >> Yeah. Okay. >> Yep. >> issue with an agenda. I'd like to see some cost. >> I was into I mean >> so some some costs and then also some just some options on what it could look like. Yeah. Okay. I can bring that guys if I can. Do you want us to go ahead and I mean approve dedicating the gym to their family with >> you can go ahead >> approval

055of design to >> yes >> design and price to follow >> also move >> motion by Josh second >> second by Chad. All those in favor say I. >> Sorry. So just that we will move forward dedicating the space and honoring the Styles family with final approval of cost and design. >> No, you're any other questions? All those in favor say I. >> I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes 61 6. And then item number 14, the modular units. >> Okay, so we did get two bids back for the modular units and I have uploaded those as well as well with um kind of a little write up at the bottom that kind of gives you some ideas on um the estimated groundwork pricing as well. Um Box Modular in their quote did send in

056a timeline. Mobile Modular did not. Um, so if it was something, you know, the board decid, you know, the board wanted to just have a separate board meeting where this was the only item on there in between this and the next one, it would still meet the timing requirements for getting it in to get it in. And it even though it put us a little closer up to it, but we could even still do it in October as well with the timeline that they set forward on it. So, um I just need to know from you guys what direction you would like me to go with this and what um you know just what what what the next steps whenever you guys have done a big purchase like this in the past. What are some

057of the next steps that you would like to see before final approval if this is the direction we're going to go? So I personally um am grateful that you are putting in so much of the leg work and the footwork. In the past a lot of times we've hired a big firm to just do it all and so we have to pay the 20% you know blue clear sky. So I appreciate all your work Mr. >> and this is not an easy easy like you can just reach out to somebody around. I mean, you've got to go try to hunt for people in, you know, Mobile Modular is out. They have a a place out of um Texas, but their main category is out of or their main station is in California. So, I mean,

058you really have to and then kind of pro them along to try to get the bids in time and those sort of things. Boss Modell was really good. Mobile Modell was they sent theirs in a timely fashion and got us there. um kind of their floor plan that they had and then also the price that we would be looking at. But they did not include a finance option. Um you know the box modular one uh all in without the I'm going to call it the breezeway without the breezeway is about 1.1 million. Um this does not count the groundwork and mobile modular was right under 1.3 million um for the same square footage. uh the design that's on there, Box Modular, we've kind of worked a design with them. Mobile modular is just a design

059they came up with uh that can be modified to meet our needs. But when you're looking at that big of a price gap between both of them, it makes I don't want to speak for the board, but it makes it >> modular. That's who was on >> that's who was on there. Yes, sir. Yeah. So, um, and then, and then, you know, there's some steps that have to happen. If this is the direction the board decides to go and we do approve one of the bids, then there's really a lot of work that's still got to take place because we still have to get the uh, groundwork pricing for three comparable bids for each one of the pieces of the groundwork. So, like the electrical, the water, sewer, the concrete work, the dirt work as

060well. Um, so there's still some work that's got to happen with the price of of the contractors being over that $20,000 mark that we've got to work on. So, um, I guess I just really need some direction from you guys on your thoughts or concerns or comments to move forward on this. I know in a district that I that I was at, I only been in two, but last when there was a big undertaking like this, their board always like to have a separate board meeting where this was the only item on there to discuss it. So, I don't know if that's the direction you guys have gone in the past or how you feel about that. Um, >> well, no, other than I mean some of the other big stuff that we've done for

061you know, district things and stuff. Um, I would say I feel like we've talked about it for quite a while now. It's not necessarily something new. >> Um, and you've shown us, you know, how our budget has how this works into the budget and that it's affordable and something that we're on in a good position to be able to do. And we all know that um space definitely is the primary concern at the elementary school. But if anybody does want to have further in-depth discussion, you know, we can we can have a special meeting just about this. But I also feel like it's something that we have been discussing and we have agreed that we need to move forward on. And so I don't feel that we're out of either one would be the wrong

062decision. I don't think it's anything spur of the moment if we do go ahead and make a motion tonight. >> I'd like to see a final cost that covers. Like you said, we're still up in here. We don't know how much those are going to come in on the other stuff. I mean, I'd like to see some more down cost numbers. >> I think a decision makes >> decision specifically on the ground work. Is that what you're talking about? >> Yeah, the electric, you know, getting those bids in and stuff. >> It was and I'm more than happy to do that and try my best to do it. It was um quite tough to even get the numbers from the contractors that we have with their schedules, but I could I I could do my

063best to try to get you as many comparable bids as possible. >> Have to do it anyway. >> What was that? If we move forward, we're going to have to do >> Yeah, we would. We would. >> I need you to say the timeline because if we want to have this done in the time frame that we've discussed, we do need to >> Well, you have total numbers here. >> That and again, that's theirs. That's not saying that, you know, I'm just going to use the concrete work for example. Um, with that price, we do have to try to get two try to get two more comparable bids. >> I mean, you have bids on it. So, >> right. It could either be less or your other bids could be higher, >> right? I can't

064I mean it with the bids that they shot me, you know, and again this I'm thinking more of the electrical work, you know, and the the plumbing with >> the price of materials, you know, with tariffs going back and forth. Um, >> not only that, you know, the furniture, things like that, the technology, you know, how much are we looking total? I just I wish too bad the PTO left, but I have a feeling that a lot of a lot of those things too, we could probably get some assistance from from the PTO or from from other donations. Yeah. To help with like some of the the furniture and the classroom details and things like that. Not to totally speak out of mind, but we're not going to be able to get, you know, exact

065numbers for all of that. That's just not going to be possible. Um but if we want to go ahead and >> some of that fix it expands would be you know projector TV or projector whatever when needed for the classroom >> technology side furniture and stuff is is I feel it's not that expensive. It's not that. I mean, we can go almost anywhere and get some of that, you know, it's that electronic stuff that I would be concerned on, you know, and and maybe some of it we already have and it's just transferring this room to this room. So, we got more space over here, too. Um, so that extra I don't think could is really that much more. Um, you know, especially right away. >> This building is not like a storm shelter, is

066it? They would still have to go. They'd have to go inside. Yep. >> No, this building would not I mean, if we had a tornado warning, I mean, they would be going to the same location that they're going now. >> Fire alarm, but we have no idea how much that would cost. The security system integration. I have no idea how much that's going to cost the furnishings. There's still a lot of it for me. That's a lot of money to commit to and have. >> So, Mr. Murphy, do we have enough money in our budget to cover some of the big items like dirt work? >> We do. >> Yes, ma'am. And when we talk about this down like um option one or two years or two or three years, that's not the dirt work.

067That's just the building. >> That's just the building for that amount of time. And we're set up budget-wise with our capital outlay that I would not recommend not putting something down. I would recommend putting a pretty, you know, where we're at financially with our capital outlay. We'd be able to put a pretty put a pretty good chunk down and still maybe be able to look at that 24 months. um you know with being a little cheaper than that that price tag that's on there. Um >> and if you remember he said um when we talked about the budget and and talked about this in the past that we would encumber the dirt work and some of that foundation work and stuff. We would encumber that >> in the down payment this year >> and then

068the first Yeah. Then the first monthly payment would start of July, which would be >> next budget cycle. >> And that still allows you to get items off of that wish list. >> Yeah, I think I think we'll be in a good, you know, I don't I don't want to say I don't, you know, K, you're right, we've talked about that. I don't know exactly what the fire alarm system is going to cost to integrate that in. Um, I do know that with some of the wiring and some of the -ate possibilities that we have maybe going into next summer, we'd maybe, you know, I'm not thinking that it would be a really big ticket to do any of the wiring. We have to have some more access points and some of those things. Um,

069but the fire system and having that integrated with the whole building, I I don't have enough experience with that to even give you a number on what that would cost. So, I can't that's that could be something that I can bring back to you guys and try to get a hold of um our fire alarm system and see what that's going to run with. Um as far as furnishings, you know, the technology, you know, there's eight classrooms there and two of them are going to be, you know, hopefully at some point help be be some of the daycare rooms. So, it's on the facility much like Wilson is. Um so, you're talking about six classrooms and you're talking about the technology for six classrooms. So, you know, if you got about $1,000 per clear touch

070panel, um you know, you're talking about $6,000 there for the cl clear touch panels. And then um you know the furnishings for the room with teachers desks and classrooms desks you know we're not talking about a huge amount of money but it is I mean it's it's still going to be >> the technology could be partially help paid for by that reg next year or partially this year too. >> That's 28,000. >> So I take away from new technology purchases that grant every year. >> So yeah. So basically what you're saying you're saying the technology rotation >> are we robbing from some just to get to this >> right? >> I wouldn't say robbing we we've done a good enough job I say we I've only been here a year. You guys um Mr. has

071done a good enough job with the budget that we're in a good enough position where I could say with those things, those aren't going to be big ticket items that are going to be a reason that we would want to move forward with it with the exception of the fire alarm system because I don't I right now I don't I have enough experience with that to know what that would. So, um, you know, depending on what the board wanted to do, if we wanted to table this and and talk about it in two weeks at a special meeting, and I know you guys are really busy, I can do my best to try to get as many of those numbers as I can with what we think the furnishings would be, what we think the

072technology would be, and then um try to get a a firm number on what the fire alarm system would cost and tie it together. um to try to bring that back to you guys if that's what you would like me to do. >> I'd like to see some of those fil. Yeah, that October board meeting we've got to know by we've got to have a decision by the October board meeting to be able to give to them to to hit the dates. Um whenever I talked to talked to Lee um with the timeline that they gave us, he'd like to know a little bit sooner, but he said that they he was pretty sure that they'd still be able to be on the same timeline that we need to be them need them to be

073on if we made a decision at the October board meeting. So, This is I mean it's a it's a lot of money. It is it is a really tough decision. Um, this is also an affordable option for us over the two or threeear span um to be able to add space to that facility to be able to have more kids there. Um, you know, anything else that we try to do stick build with the information that I found just it's, you know, at least double. >> How secure is the entrance to this building? Is there any um any kind of security at all or can you just walk in and out? >> No, we would have to have some sort of security at the front door when you go into that building. You know, we

074talked about the breezeway being blocked off on one side, so you don't have access to the walkway. I would even like to go as far as to put in some sort of a fence to the north side, the north side of that building before you get to the sidewalk that has an entrance for the daycare kids to be able to go in and out in the mornings. And you know, it's kind of broken apart from the parking lot. And then it would go towards the back and then hook into the playground that we would move over from where we have the daycare at now to the west of that complex. Well, I know just from when we did the the heat and the AC, I mean, part of what they have on there's also is

075the crane and the riggings to install the building. So, not having to pay for the crane to be here. So, Kayla, what information do you feel like um you want specifically if we do have a special meeting in two weeks? >> I would just like to see like the >> fire alarm system. >> Yeah. technology maybe some of them >> expenses major expenses >> yeah the major >> security system >> I mean they could be you know estimates good estimates >> now does any of these bids include I know we discussed that breeze I call I'm calling a breeze week >> uh from building to building does it include any of that work done >> that would be extra Okay. >> Yeah. And if you look on the bit from box modular, it says that

076on there. Um, let me get it open and get you guys to the right. >> Sorry guys, because I think that we need to definitely look into that because I think that needs to be done as soon as possible. Uh especially if we're able to put one wall up on that north side because kids are going to have to go from building to building, you know, for a gym or uh lunchtime, you know, and dismissal stuff like that. Middle of the winter, it ain't going to be pleasant unless we have something. >> So on the third page on that document, it says under base price, it says options number one, and it says build a covered block with a windbreak on one side. cost to be determined on that one. So that cost for the

077windbreak with either one of these is not built into it. >> Okay. >> And I can ask them if they can at least give me an estimated cost on what it would cost them to do that. >> Right. >> Well, that's something that we might have to talk to Scott Christensen some about because they're probably not going to do the, you know, the concrete work, too. So I've got down fire alarm system, technology, security system, furnishing, estimated cost for breezeway since that they don't include ADA accessibility. That's something maybe we have to be concerned about. >> Well, that'll be like in the entryways what they're I mean the ramps and those sorts of things will have to build into the entrance of the building. Yeah, >> that's just with our concrete work. >> Yeah, that's

078worried about Now, when they get that building there, are they going to set it and then we got to have somebody else like finish hooking it up? >> No, I think all the the securing it down to the foundation is on theirs whenever I through this, >> but like electrical and plug. >> Yep. Yes, we'll have to do that. Okay. And that's >> and that's part of what the contractors gave us was included in that. >> Okay. I just wanted to make sure. >> So it sounds like then >> So two things on this one. I can reach out tomorrow to Lee. Um, and then I'm going to have to do some work on my own on a couple of these things to see if they would prefer us to if timeline if it put

079pushes us up against it too much to wait two weeks till the October board meeting or if we need to have a special board meeting and then I can get back to you on that. Hammer and then we can find a day and get called in time to meet all the requirements. If this is going to fulfill and he thinks we'll still be in good as long as we have a decision at the October meeting, are you guys okay with that? Okay. So, if we need to have a special meeting, I'll reach out to you guys. And if we don't, we'll just plan on the October meeting. >> Decision. That's for next >> That would be the next board meeting. We'd have to if we're going to do one of these, we would need to

080have a decision next school year. >> Yes. To have it here in June so we can have it ready in August. This this coming June is it. But just like I will remind you guys too, just like our aspesus project and stuff too, we don't want to we don't want to wait till the last minute. We like to have a little cushion built in. >> So on on the box modular, if you look at page 11 on there, it does give you the timeline what they would like to happen in a week, four weeks, two weeks, three weeks, four weeks. Um so you can kind of look at that timeline on there as well. we we detailed that timeline out to make sure that even on our side by the October board meeting we'd be

081able to meet the requirements of them having it here on time. So, um I'll reach out to him and then I'll get you guys some information on that this week. Yeah. And in that case, I mean, we might I would probably feel more comfortable if we went ahead and move forward with the special meeting just to >> you'd be okay. Do we just want to plan it then? >> Yeah. Okay. So, two weeks from today will be the 22nd >> second. How does that work for you guys? We have JD football scheduled versus lacrosse here, but there's no reason why we couldn't have it earlier or on a different day. I mean, if it was that week, I just, you know, >> only thing on the agenda. >> Yeah. >> It's a special meeting. >>

082Can we start at like 5 or 5:30? Can we start at five on Monday the 22nd? >> I won't be here. >> What about the 23rd? >> 23rd. You still wanted what time do you guys care? I don't care. >> Six. So it doesn't mess up. >> I said, "Do you want it earlier so it doesn't mess up?" >> So we're going to go with Tuesday the 23rd. >> Tuesday the 23rd table. >> Six. Unless you guys have a preference. >> I want to do it here. >> I have on the 23rd week. I got tennis here. >> Okay. >> And I got JB tennis at Sterling and then I got high school volleyball at >> Okay. I just went >> just so item number 15, the KSB delegate. Is this for the voting delegate?

083>> Uh, item 15. Yeah. So that's appointing our KASB. The board of education needs to appoint a delegate for representation at the KASB convention in November. >> Okay. I probably did that once. >> You did. >> Did we do that last month? I don't think we did. >> No, we said we have to appoint somebody, but we never we never too. I thought we did, too. We mentioned it, but we had >> It's um It was for future agenda items. I've done it in the past. I am going to be there anyway, so I don't mind. >> Okay. >> No, just thank you though. [Music] >> Item number 16, our rate. >> Okay, so this has been an endeavor, guys, with our rate. Um, Smoky Hills does our rate and just to give you guys

084kind of what we've been dealing with with with the - side of it is they place the bids, the rates, the technology side of it. Um, they had some problems with the bidding process and the way that they put it out there. So, we had to deal with that to an extent. Um, whenever we had conversations with them, it was clearly defined. You guys have hundred and some odd thousand dollars you have to spend by this date. So whenever we had all of our -ray stuff, which is on here, this document. So the way that they print it off is like that. Okay. Then they came back and said, "Your portion is $55,000." And we were what do you And they said, "Well, you're a 50% school now." Well, what is a 50% school? 50%

085school is you have to pay 50% of the funds. So whenever we had the conversation about the $111,000, we didn't have $111,000 from their funding. We only had basically half of that and we had to match it. Okay. So we went through this with a fine tooth comb and we got just the items that are a necessity that we know we're going to need in the future for each one of the buildings. So that comes out to our portion $36,718. their side $36,218.50. So, we have a little bit more because one of the items uh does not meet their requirements. So, those items are wiring, that's installation, that's access points, uh that's firewall capability. Um we did almost have a really close call in Hollywood this past year because we had a leak in the

086water softener and the whole tower for all the switches is located in that room. So, this would move it from that room over to Evan's office on the other side of it where if we did have a a water incident that we wouldn't have all of our switches in the same room. So, um I was trying to find the best way to put this in a document where you guys could see it on here and nothing worked. So, all the items are on here um that were put out for bid and we took the ones that we don't need off of there with some of the battery pack and those things that we were trying to get just to put us a little bit ahead but are not necessities at this point. Um let me

087double check and look license. So we have switches, access points, firewall, firewall licenses, cable installation at all three buildings. I talked to you guys a little bit about our access panels or our switches in Hollywood. Um and then we have the estimated cost broken down on there. I am not an um expert by any means at this point. I'm trying to get better at it. So I did have Scott here to try to help with any questions. Scott, anything I'm missing on that >> there? As a little background, the reason normally we're about an 80 85% discount from -ate, but last year out of nowhere at -ate decided to count our uh graduation online students. That's what changed at after all these years. And with there is no transparency. There is no indication of how

088they make their decision, why they make their decision. I mean, Tamara has done this up at Smoky Valley. She's done this for a long time and just this just kind of dropped. So the idea was uh talking to Mr. Murphy is well this is a you know we looked at as a once in a lifetime chance of you know making getting everything the same. Right now we have multiple companies, you know, access points from multiple companies, uh, firewalls from different companies, switches from different companies, everything could be, you know, good for probably 7 8 10 years. Uh, especially the switches and access points. I mean, we'd be good for quite a while. But then when they came back and said, well, no, it's 50% because now we have more students. I mean because literally they're

089counting what 500 graduation alliance students and we don't have that many students in the buildings. So they more than doubled our number of students and therefore our percentage went down. Why it went down that far they they won't say but uh again we cut this down to things to where every building has a new firewall, new switches, new access points. the other stuff we can worry about going forward. And in terms of counting those graduation alliance students next year, there's still no word on that. I I don't know when we're going to get a word on that. >> This is the last year of this cycle, though. So, this has to be done and spent by the end of when? >> Well, we've got to start making the purchases, I think, by next spring. And

090then, you know, with the federal government, everything's always on a different schedule than everything else. I mean, but the sooner we do it, the better off we're going to be in terms of again, uh, inventory, you know, if you know, HMBB is contracted for this stuff, how quickly they can get some of this stuff. You know, some some of this work's going to be done. Most of it, we can do the switches and everything. We can do that before school, after school. is literally I did that with the firewall in my office. Literally got it ready to go, unplugged the cables from one, plugged it into there, restarted it, everything is fine. So that kind of stuff we can do, you know, anytime. Some of the rewiring, uh, moving the access points or the wiring

091for the access points at the grade school, whether they have to do that, you know, during school time or they can do it on after school hours or weekends, I don't know that that we'd have to work that out with HB. But if there's any other questions, I mean, like I said, we Mr. Murphy and I spent a lot of time going through this with a fine tooth comb of what is best for all the buildings and upgrades, everything that we have. I always call it future proofing. You know, you're trying to get to where things are going to last. So, that's that's the other part of the reasoning behind this. It's not something that we if with regular Lucas and I have been have been upgrading and keeping things up for years for 15

092years. You know, you just have so much money each year and you do what you need to do. This was just an opportunity to do everything. >> This would be a capital expense as well on the district side of it. So, obviously it's, you know, a bummer that we don't have 100% of it covered like we thought we did, but I still it's I mean, right there about a little over 36 or $36,000 that we would be saying no to if we don't go ahead and move forward with this. I guess at this time I would entertain motion to go ahead and approve the rate technology for purchases as presented. >> Also move. >> Motion by Josh. >> Second by Chad. Any further questions, comments, discussion? Hearing none. All those in favor say I. >>

093I. >> Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. 6. [Music] >> So item number 17, the retaining wall at the football field. >> Okay. So I did upload uh the concrete drainage back fill fencing for the retaining wall at the football field. I did attach that on there. Um, we originally had about a twoe span. We thought we could potentially get this done if the B board of education decided to do that. Um, since this past weekend, I don't know what our timeline would look like on that. Um, the reason that is is because the bid that we have for the fence was from Doners u from from Jeff and I don't know that he would still be able to maintain that twoe window. So, um, we did have a board member get a couple other

094ideas that I think I would maybe be interested in exploring. So, I uploaded those on here as well. Um, the pictures are the bottom two pictures. And I don't know where these came from, but this could be something kind of interesting instead of the retaining wall to allow some more seating over on that north side of the stadium rather than um just a retaining wall being there. So, there was a couple pictures that I uploaded to that that I think I would like to have a little bit of time to investigate to see what the options would look like for those items and then also what the drainage would look like um on how we would do that. Um, you know, I think the best case forward with where we're at right now is whatever

095we decide to do, we probably need to wait till after football season's over to try to attack would be my recommendation. that would give me the time to research a couple of these uh cement um bleachers that could maybe work over there really nice. Um and maybe, you know, besides just being a retaining wall off it, also give us the opportunity for a little more seating on that north side as well. U maybe a curb on the back side of it and maybe a smaller fence or something there to make sure we're meeting compliance codes on the back of it. So, um did a lot of work on that. I thought we were in a good spot, but had just had some more information that was presented that I would like to investigate. But if

096we do that, then it's going to definitely we're going to could have to wait till after football season anyway. Um, but if we decided to go ahead and wait till after football season was over, that would give me some time to ask some of our concrete contractors to see what what they can come up with with providing some seating there. So, just wanted to entertain your guys's thoughts about that. I think that's a great idea. You know, I I see that first picture. Um, you know, it gives it multi- access of anything you want to put up there, whether somebody wants to see set or stand, but it still allows us to hopefully direct that that water flow. Um, who knows? So, I I say we proceed with your investigation of what we can do.

097Uh because I agree with you. I mean, we're kind of already in a position. The the bad thing is is who knows how soon is going to try up to do any work anyways. Well, I just know how many people like to sit I mean on that that slope back there and so I hate to totally take that away and take the access away from that. >> Plus, we just sold those parking spots for the football team and so who really wants a 4ft fence right in front of their >> vehicle? But >> but I think we can do >> Yeah. a part of it and still have that slope kind of a little further down that people can still >> kind of tear bubble. >> Yes. >> Yeah. And we could still put something

098there that vehicles can still have a stopping point of this is as far as you go. >> Yeah. Whether it just be a curve or like a >> two foot pole or something, >> right? You know. >> Yeah. But either way, yeah, I think it's probably going to best to table table this for now and let you kind of investigate it a little bit further. >> Mr. President, I move that the board go into exe executive session pursuit to the Kansas Open Meeting Act to discuss non-elected personnel for the topics of substitutes, resation, classified staff, and supplemental staff to protect the privacy of the individuals we discussed and returned to open session in this room. Still 15? >> No, probably I would say five unless >> 10. So return back in here at 7:40 with

099Superintendent Bob Murphy to be attendance. Motion >> by Josh. >> Second by Chad. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Okay, we're back in open session. >> A to approve Catherine as a substitute cooker at Central Finance. >> Motion by Kayla and a second by Josh. All those in favor say I. >> I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes 6. >> I move to approve Kyla Metro, Amanda Platner, and Judy Sne as substitute teachers for the Central Plains Elementary School and Laura Seamers Quesca as a substitute teacher Wilson. >> Second. >> Motion by Kayla and a second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. >> Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. 6. A motion chair to approve the resignation of Jennifer Pulber as the concession stand supervisor. >> Second.

100>> Motion by Kayla, second by Josh. All those in favor say I. >> I. Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes. 6. Move >> to approve Dean Ran as the bus route driver for the 2526 school year. >> Second. >> Motion by Kayla and a second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. >> Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes. 6. >> I motion to approve Britney Corp as the concession stand supervisor for the 2526 school year. >> Second. >> Motion by Kayla and a second by Josh. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes. 6. I move to approve Merly as a middle school football coach for the 2526 middle school football season on an as needed basis. >> Second. >> Motion by Kayla and a second

101by Josh. All those in favor say I. >> I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. 6. Okay. and item number 19, superintendent report. >> Okay. So, I just have a few items I'd like to visit with you guys about. We were supposed to have our turf tank demo um robotic marking machine for outside today that got rescheduled for Thursday. Um so, I'll kind of give you guys an update on that once we do it. I did want to have a little bit of further discussion on the after school snack that we talked about for middle school, high school, um athletic and activities. Um, I missed it with you guys a little bit about this in the past about being able to offer something for our kids that have activities after school to have here at

102the school they just pick up and then they take with them to practice. Um, there's a lot of scheduling that we have to work on with that to move that direction. There would be a fee included in that. And when we had discussions, it really sounded like, you know, whatever it cost us as a building is what we wanted to charge them per snack or per food item that we were able to give them, um, for their after school snack if they so choose to to take one. Um, we'd still like to look into being able to do that. you know, some of our kids um you know, they might have practice after school and then they have an FFA meeting after school. So, they have lunch at 12:00 and then they might not have

103anything till they get home at 7 or 8:00 that night. So, um is there anybody that that would um any further discussion on that that you guys would like to see if we um do decide to move that way for the after school snack? >> Past schools that you've been with, have you seen this? >> Yeah. So, with sublet at the end of the day, we would just have our lunch ladies. They would make uh 25 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and a cheese stick and a bottle of water for the kids at the end of the day that stayed for activities. They just slid by. They wrote their number down on a piece of paper when they got it and then they just took their stuff and ate it on their way to class,

104you know. Um did the same thing kind of as an athletic whenever we were coaching at Southwestern Heights. all the athletics and activities would meet after school for five minutes in the cafeteria real quick and they would do like a yogurt cereal bar and a bottle of water or something for them and they didn't have to take it if they didn't want to. They could sit and work on homework for five minutes or whatever or something like that during that time. You know, really the hard part for us here is with our junior high kids going to Bush. We don't want them to make more work for our bus drivers and if a crate gets smashed on the floor or something like that. So, we really got to look at what what that's going to

105look like and we don't want to take the kids out of school early to give them a snack, you know, but we want them to be able to have something if they need it. Um, so it's gone over really well, but we do have a few knuckleheads here and there that'll take advantage of it, you know, so we got to kind of keep our eye that on that. But, um, I think it could be a good thing for our kids and our families. But I also know that there's that line that you draw between what the school is supposed to provide and then also what the family. So I know that's always a balancing act as well. Um so use my kid for example, he takes a cereal bar and a bottle of water or

106something with him every day. So after school whenever he gets over to practice he has a snack of his own. You know some kids don't have that same option. So >> well my kid tries but he always eats it way before >> way before they go. >> Yeah. So it's like So, uh, I think it would be a great idea. Um, you know, because of that situation, you know, like you said, some of them kids don't get home until 7 or 8 then turn around and have homework and, um, you know, >> weren't reliable enough to do that. Payton gets up in the morning and makes two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for himself. Bryson I don't even see because he >> and the hard part about that too is just making sure the parents

107are aware because we don't want the parents to be a that they're charged a dollar a day and now it's $20 a month that I didn't know was coming out of my kid's lunch account because he's taking a snack every day. So we just got some of those things that we've got to make sure that we have our eyes dot our eyes dotted and tees crossed on before we move forward. But I just wanted to have a little more of a conversation with that with you guys before we decided to go that route. Let's say it's definitely have to be something where sign off on >> I talked a little bit to you guys about talking we're looking into uh doing some of a a flat rate for our athletic bus drivers rather than on

108the road time and sit time. So um we have numbers that we've kind of looked at a little bit. Diane's pulled numbers for us with some other uh surrounding communities on what they do as well. So, it's just something that we're working on that we're going to bring to you guys. Um, did want to talk to you guys about the Wilson roof and in particular the live. So, I did upload the attachment from Conklin. I want to say their name wrong. Conklin, >> is it Conklin Roofing? >> Yeah, Conklin roofing system. They did the They did the roofing Hollywood at the bank. So, I asked them to just shoot us a quote on something that had a warranty on it. I didn't want something that didn't have a warranty. So, they shot us a bid

109at at $34,600. That does both entryways and the roof of the library. It doesn't extend any further than the two entryways and the roof of the library. So, with this um it would be a 10-year prated warranty on their work that they would do. Most companies that we reach out to that are going to provide a warranty are going to be in that same ballpark. So, um, on one hand, you know, we can have them do something without a warranty and be between that $8,000 to $11,000 range or have a warranty with it as well and probably be between that 28 to 35 range. So, if this is the direction we go, we do need to get more bids to make sure that they're all comparable on the warranty. I just wanted to have that

110conversation with you guys. I'd like to move forward with um trying to get two more bids that have a warranty to present to you guys for the roof and Wilson rather than not having a warranty. Does anybody have any concerns or questions on that? Okay. So, one of the items that we've kind of visited about too is on the needs assessment. One thing that Central Plains Elementary School school put was a full-time nurse. They do have um we do have Amber that splits her time between the high school, middle school, and the elementary school. Right now, there is a need for a full-time nurse at the elementary school. talking to administration here and also Amber, they don't feel like there would be a full-time need for a nurse here at the high school middle school

111unless there was some sort of an added duty on with the part-time nurse. Um, so I visited with Amber a little bit about this and you know, currently we have her splitting the day. You know, it would be a full-time job for her to really be at the elementary school the whole time. I just don't know that we want to look at adding a full-time nurse unless they are interested in other duties is assigned to help with, you know, secretarial duties or things like that at the building. That's really one of the major needs, especially at Central Plains Elementary School with the amount of kids that they have. And Kaen when the nurse not being there has not only the office, but she has any of the sick kids and the medicine and all that

112sort of stuff that come in there as well. So, um, >> have you talked to Amber about >> Yes. >> And would she I mean, if we found somebody at elementary, would she be willing? >> She She would rather stay at the elementary. >> Okay. >> That would be her preference. >> So, and Amber does a fantastic job for us. So, I really feel like we want to give her her preference on what >> she would feel like. So, um, just wanted to kind of visit with you guys about that to see what your thoughts were on on that. Um, I don't know if we would have anybody interested in, you know, a full-time nurse/ secretarial job, if the secretarial job was with that, too. Um, here at the high school, middle school, um, or

113if we wouldn't. So, I do know we've had some community members tell our administration in the past that if if there was ever a nursing position opened up, they would be interested in it. But if you're going to have some extra duties assigned with that as well, I don't know where that would fall. So, >> so, okay. So, if you take the elementary to full-time, are you wanting to make the high school just like full-time but with added duties or just half? either one or the other. Either a part-time nurse and then Amber would stay at the high school full-time or the elementary school full-time, sorry. Or hire a full-time nurse, but it would be part-time nurse, part-time secretarial duties in the office or athletics or, you know, items like that that would, you know,

114fill their day. So, would we try to do the part-time first and if we couldn't then the full-time or how are you just >> I I would like a full time here but her duties are split. >> Yeah. Because I mean, how can you justify a part-time nurse and they're only here half a day and a kid has to take medicine in the afternoon before practice or so that means the secretary like it is now in the elementary. Um, so I would rather try to find a full-time position, but she's halftime nurse or he whatever. Uh and and then the other dude that way they are still here if something does happen. >> Do they do the office up here? >> Yeah. >> We would be able to find duties whether it was athletic duties

115or things. When I say athletic duties, secretarial athletic work that you know needs to be done like um >> assistant to the athletic director. >> Yeah. like just they need to send rosters to this school and we need to update the physical list and we need you know um items like that is what we would pro we would look at >> and budget wise we can >> we could yeah this year >> and you know whenever you really think of that Josh has a really good point because we don't want to get to the point where with medicine and those sorts of things that we ever have an issue with handing out medicine and those sorts of things. So there's a there's a safety component in with that as well. So >> So the other

116item I have on here is weight room inventory. Uh we've talked about this in Wilson. We do have um I just she just her name just slipped my mind. Uh >> Katie Zelinka. Yes, it's a linka that's opening up trying to open up a a uh gym that wanted to know kind of what we were doing with the weight room, the the items we had in the wait room. So, I did attach that list on here as well. Um the items that are in purple on that list are items that the fifth and sixth graders still use. The items in green are some of the items that we would use in our weight room here. And then there's a bunch of items that as of right now aren't used at all. So, I just need

117some direction on the board if they want me to kind of get a price on what those items would cost um to bring back to you guys so you guys determine whether you want to look at selling those items or whether you want to look at donating those items. Um I would I would recommend that we look at what the what you know what we think they're worth and try to get an idea to give you guys a number on what to do with those items. >> Are you guys okay with that? >> Yeah. Okay. And I might reach out to Miss Linka as well and ask her with those items that are on there if they're items that she would >> use. That would be great, too. Um, and then just some radar items

118on there. Uh, you know, we're working on the retaining wall, the football field, the modular unit. Uh, at some point this fall, we'll talk about the irrigation on the practice field. We're working on coffee machines and the hot water heaters at the high school. Count day is September 22nd, which is a Monday, uh, this year. So, we'll be getting building principal reports and SO6s, which is our superintendence reports as well. Um, all rolling to KSDE right after that. So, It's in my truck. I'll get it to you. We're done. And >> if you want just you just want to send me a picture of her, you know what to >> item number just board member reports. >> Well, I'll say I attended the back school night at Wilson. I visited all the teachers in their

119classrooms and they said the new air conditioning is wonderful. It's very quiet. So, they're very appreciative. and not having no issues, huh? >> No issues. >> That's awesome. >> Well, we we've had a couple of them kind of freeze up on us, but we got the thermostat fixed right the way it should be on it. So, I think we're in good shape with that. Like I said, as we get going through this year, we might need to talk about with electrical capabilities, maybe adding another one or two cafeteria or something like that. So, >> so like interior room and especially room, would it ever have air conditioning? Doesn't have >> It does now. >> Yeah. We put a split unit in there and put the unit. They were going to put it on top of

120the building, but they said the hard part about that is if, >> you know, we went ahead and bought the ones with heat in them as well, if you guys remember. And they said if it's really cold and they do need the heat for some reason, they don't want to have to crawl up on the building. So, they went ahead and ran the wiring and everything and put it on the side so that way they could get to it easy if if something ever went wrong with it. So, yeah. Yep. And it it'll make me feel a little bit better once we get the library back up and running and get those air conditioning units in there because then that opens up two classrooms that do that we did put split units in for after

121school program or or whatever up there. So once we get that rolling it'll make me feel a little bit a little bit better about the situation too. So >> I might ask that all the board members notify Nicole if you're going to KB or not. >> You got everybody. Okay. Just double checking. >> Um and we had the legislative committee meeting. Um, I think everybody probably got emails about like the listening tour and the dates for that. Um, and there's always a virtual one, too. So, I do plan on going to white on the 16th for the region 7 meeting. >> Is that the virtual one, Tam? No, the virtual one is the 26th, I think. >> Did you say that again? September 16th. >> September 16th. It's at noon. >> Yeah, I would have

122to I would have to double check my email. >> Mr. Yes, because I had some people interested. Was it the one there's a Wasn't there a person that was going to come around from the state or a representative to like a a town hall meeting? Not town hall, but just like a Didn't you mention that on September 16th? >> That's what um I mean, if this is what you're thinking, >> like um Dr. Jordan that we've worked with before. >> He comes to that and then our lobby is >> with KSB. >> It's like a listening tour or something. >> Mhm. >> So, do you want information on that region? I'll make another call. I can figure that out. Send that to you. >> Okay. Item number 21, open agenda items. And item number 22,

123next month's agenda. So, we do have a couple of items on there uh for next month. We do have the Hall of Fame review and then we'll also have the auto report. Um Jamie, right? No, >> Kim. Kim, Kim, Kim will be here to give us >> the >> She should have it ready. >> She finished it up while we're still answering some of her questions, but she's getting close. [Music] >> And don't forget, if you guys ever have um any questions or anything, you can email Mr. Murphy or myself. Let us know. We usually meet about the Tuesday before about the agenda. So, okay. Item number 20 23 is adjournment. So, I would entertain a motion to adjurnn. >> Also move. >> Motion by Josh. Second. >> Second by Kayla. All those in favor

124say I. I. >> Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. 6. Thank you everybody.
