001All [Music] right. [Music] Call the meeting to order. First item on the agenda is approval of the agenda. the agenda. There's a motion by Allison. Second, and a second by Josh. All those in favor say I. Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes. 7:30. And then approval of the minutes from the May 12th, 2025 meeting. Any questions, comments, changes? Hearing none, I move to approve the minutes as presented. Motion by Allison. Second. Second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. Approval of the treasurer's report is for you to see and review. [Music] want to entertain a motion to approve the treasury report. So motion by Alison. Second by Kayla. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. 70. Uh approval of the invoices.
002Mr. Murphy, is there anything you would like to direct our attention to? Everything's pretty normal. We have our sped flow through on there and our graduation alliance billable credits are a couple of our big ticket items. Uh we've been really working on uh getting all of our maintenance items and also our custodial products in order to have everything on hand for next year and all of our buildings to try to work a little bit ahead. So you can see more little items on there. Uh just trying to work ahead in next year. I appreciate hearing that we're working ahead in next year instead of still catching up on last year. Are there any questions? Hearing none, I would entertain a motion to approve the invoices as presented. Motion by Allison. Second. Second by Josh. All
003those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes. 70 reconciliation and cash balances report has been attached for you to review. Any questions or comments on that? Okay. And then item number seven is our recognition of visitors. Just a reminder, this is an opportunity for people to speak to the board for five minutes, but it is not a back and forth or a question and answer session. So, our first visitor is Harold Simpson. I want to take this opportunity to really thank the board for putting music back in the grade school and the high school. I know when our grandson grew up, they kicked it out for several years. We went back and forth with the board trying to get it in. They said, "We'll take a look at it next year."
004You know, it's that thing in the free beer tomorrow. Anyway, also want to thank the uh grade school kids. They provided a lot of food for their food bank and we talked to Jane and immediately the kids brought up a whole, you know, several boxes of food. you don't help the food bank because we've been picking up more people wanting to eat and needing food assistance. Uh secondly or thirdly, I want to thank the grade school for sending the kids up to the senior center uh to entertain us old geyzers. Uh I know they uh the antics that they put on whether it's acting or singing or whatever was greatly appreciated and I know even a lot of parents showed up to listen to the kids and watch them. So again I want to thank
005you for you know doing that for us old guys. Thank you. Okay. Next we have Robera Meyer. Good evening. Thank you for letting me come speak. Um, I've got my stuff written out so I can be efficient. Um, 321. Those are the numbers since 2021. three superintendent, Park, Lowry, Murphy, two years of strategic planning, and one board. There's been some variations on the board. Um, this district, from what I've witnessed, and I'm not in the district, has struggled to find stability and even more so to find peace. I feel um many parents in the Wilson Dorance area have struggled to find the best fit for their kids. And some are struggling right now to stay invested in this district. Um, small towns I I mean, you'll hear it. Um, I know school boards have a
006tough job and there's no easy button. You have to choose a path that you feel is logical and good for the district as a whole. And I think if you do so, it will attract parents and students. For those parents who right currently now and maybe in the past no longer feel willing to invest in USD12, I find it sad and uh disheartening because I worked really hard in the beginning to try to find other alternatives. Um but in order to be logical and fair, um I see more and more uh parents probably choosing to realign and to serve the needs and kids of this these uh parents and these communities. It may be that there does need to be a right realignment of boundaries, voting rights and tax dollars. Um it may be a
007logical step and I am here because I did witness a very ugly fight with the disorganization vote. Um, I came in January to ask for some things that I felt were logically um, would help this district unite. Uh, returning meeting locations. We got one. We got a walkth through Hollywood and and Wilson. And I think that's good. And I know it's a long road down here. Um, especially when the days get shorter and and you have a workload. You're leaving work trying to get to these meetings. It's it's challenge. and I I do appreciate your service to these these communities. Um, in January, I also talked about the space usage and cost savings, and I appreciate Mr. Murphy exploring some of these things. Um, there's a lot of there's a lot of currents, I'll say,
008um, underneath. And I've I've noticed as I volunteered, I didn't want to stop again, like I said, but I I volunteered for projects, the book fair, uh, for a while. I was on one of the councils there. I've been involved with the Wilson Education Foundation and I would like to report that we did give away three scholarships and um the the students that had chosen a different path did there were 11 of them that came back for the alumni banquet and I was really happy to hear that. Um so going forward I don't know where things will be but um I just ask that you keep an open mind and um I feel like the community that um everybody wants to protect their communities. Everybody feels like they deserve more. Anybody that's got a family
009knows that they feel like they deserve more. But we'll we'll just hope that we get logical and fair um service uh programs dollars as best we can and hopefully we'll keep students here. Thank you. Thank you. Okay. Administrative reports. So, Miss Murphy was not able to be here today. She did upload hers on uh the document for you guys to read. Uh Miss Oer shared most of her information and will last forward meeting. Um Miss Moore does have a couple items that she would like to visit with you guys about in her report. So everyone um so on the 17th of June, the KSN summer road trip, I'm sure you've been hearing about it. A couple of our venderson for them to stop. And so I'm going to set up like a tent booth just
010has some information about our school and just promoting our school. So we'll be there cookies and couple other things just to have it out there. Then in July on the 7th through the 18th, we'll have the Wilson summer school program. Right now we have 16 signed up um K through six and we'll see how many actually show. That's always the question. Then on the 25th and 26th will be the Wilson Chef Fest and again I'll put other booths that'll be very similar to the KSN um booth that will have different pieces of information and I'm looking for ways to really highlight that without rural education and that includes our whole district without rural education we're basically delimiting America's growth as far as agricultural type environments and those things. So I think people forget that, you
011know, Kansas is one of the many states that comes in America, you know, from its ground. And so I think those are some important things we'll highlight. Um, as far as our building goes, I do know that our insurance adjuster did come and take a look. We'll talk a little bit later about our library and some situation that we have there. Um, we are going to be moving it to another location temporarily until we can get and all of that has been pre-arranged. So, we're not trying to step on ourselves trying to get it done at the beginning of the school year. Um, I did drive up um today. I was gone. I'm having some issues with my foot and so uh I was gone Friday and yesterday and I drove in or uh Friday
012and drove in this afternoon and then we have these cute little air conditioning units that are outside our building if air conditioning games can be cute. Anyway, but they're there and and I tested mine and it worked perfect. It was nice and breezy. So, um so they're going very well. I think he's pretty close to being done. Maybe within the week he should be finished. Um, we did interview a potential candidate for our daycare. Um, I know Mr. Murphy's going to discuss with you some of the limitations that are involved there. Um, we're in the process right now of cleaning up that room and giving it a fresh paint, excuse me, fresh paint job and um, some doing some different things. Um, one of the things we're going to talk about with Mr. Murphy is
013our enrollment projections um due to the daycare situation partially and due to some other issues that we're having with other districts and we lost um somewhere I don't think we're at 20 but I won't really know until we get everyone enrolled because some say they're leaving and then they change their mind you know um so these are preliminary numbers I'm sitting um at 52 K through6 and then you add the 10. But I do know that there's been two families that have purchased property in Wilson and both those families have prekers and so and they are um have talked with our prek teacher about enrolling in our school. So that could bump us up to 12. But I'm really thinking that one of the attractive things if for some reason we couldn't get our daycare
014back up and going, one of the attractive things that might help us is to pull an all day prek versus um versus doing morning and afternoon. That would eliminate the need for that daycare situation that's there. um the the one inhibiting factor there is the after school program but I think there are some things that we can do there to help out there as well. So we'll take a look at that a little further and see where our numbers are and what we need to do as we go. Any questions? Thank you. And then we'll have the first read of the handbooks. So, the handbooks are uploaded. Um, and then the proposed changes with that as well for you guys's first read. Might take you guys a little bit of time to get through those.
015So, we wanted you guys to have have the month before we put those on the agenda for your guys's approval. Um, if you're reading through those and you have any feedback or anything, don't feel feel free to just send us an email or a text and um or we can discuss it at the next board meeting as well. So, I know there's a lot of a lot of documents on there. So, I do have a question. Yeah. Elementary schools have the same handbook, but Wilson's the only one requesting a change. How is that? So, so a couple different reasons, Kaylin, I don't want to oversp speak with Miss Moore, but with with our new principal coming in, we want to give her some time to see how things are rolling like we did with our
016high school middle school principal um to see if there's any changes that they want to make to their handbook as they get started. Um the second thing is the behavior chart that they're proposing to add to the Wilson one. um they're not seeing a lot of those same behaviors at um so they don't have the same they they do right now but with the proposed changes it would have a matrix. Miss Moore, you want to help me out on that one? Yeah, we I just feel like there was a lot of confusion and a lot of misdirection as far as what we were doing as far as discipline for students last year. And so um we sat down as a team and put together a matrix for our kids so the have a clear understanding
017of what's happening and that way we don't have so many questions from parents and there isn't it's equitable across the board so that everyone is treated with equity. I understand that. My my concern is the two different getting back into the two different handbooks instead of keeping them the same throughout the district for the elementary schools. It wasn't necessarily questioning the addition, but right here I don't think Hollywood would have an issue with [Music] I don't want to I don't want to speak for Yeah. I don't want to speak for this one. She wasn't comfortable. Well, we're not comfortable. I mean, I'm not asking. There just is a tremendous amount of behavior issues at Wilson and it needs to be better discussed with parents. um those because there hasn't been a consistent uh administrator of
018Wilson, a lot of behaviors have been let go and so those behaviors have just been allowed to continue and continue and you cannot operate a learning environment with those behaviors. So we had to come up with something and this was the idea that that our building team thought would be the best way was to put together something where everyone was treated with equity. So a disruptive behavior when we move to ISS for elementary school. Yeah. I think it's not like a kindergarten acting up. You're going to be ISS. That's not [Music] what the behavior is excessive. I didn't bring my seat with me. But if that's what what you're reading, that's not what it's excessive behaviors. We have kids kicking teachers, throwing things at teachers. I've broken my thumb broken. We have really serious behavior
019issues. Just as for minor classroom disruptions, you know, to a device. So, I think it gives the it gives the administrator the up to one day of ISS to to limit to see how disruptive the behavior is. I mean, if if it's a disruptive behavior where they're closing the door on an administrator's hand and breaking their thumb, um even if that's their first case, you know, that probably deserves one day of ISS. Um, so I found in my experiences, Kayla, if they if parents have a document and they know how it's going to be assessed when something happens and what could be the maximum offense or maximum punishment at that offense, it usually helps out that that principal or that administrator if that's in the handbook as well. So again, that's my that's just my
020experience as an administrator. So, and I looked at other schools around the state just to kind of see most of them have some type of behavior. What do we have today? What do you have? It's in our It's in the handbook. There's a list of different things that that could occur. Yeah. I mean, you have to look at each individual child. Yeah. That's the hard part with I mean, you have to look at each individual child. I mean it was just there was a lot of discrepancy and a lot of discussion about inequity inequity and that's what prompted this was that we needed to be more equitable. Some things we are dealing with is like this is more in the upper end of elementary where last year I had a situation with cell phones and
021kids were using cell phones as bullying material and the computers were you know these are those sorts of things but I did you know some ISS in kindergarten because I had one that um proceeded to touch another student inappropriately. Now, that ISS lasted about 45 minutes. Again, looking at the student, looking at the age, looking at the the qualifiers there. We're not assessing a whole day with kindergarten, but we did pull him from center time for that particular event. And we did talk with parents about his behavior. So your version of a ISS would just be like basically staying inside recess or something for kindergarten. Well, it can lead all the way into a full ISF day, but not for kindergarten. Like I said, this is more for these upper enders where we're seeing these
022different behaviors. Language, let me tell you, the language is really and like I said, because there hasn't been consistent administration We've developed it's developed an atmosphere that those things would be tolerated and we just got to we've got to create some uniformity to how we're treating one another and we're treating adults otherwise we're going to you know what I really felt was we ended the year very well. One student, the particular shoot that broke my thumb, the parents were finally saw that they needed to get support for him, got the support for them, and that young person ended the school year. You would not believe the difference. And that's why I just think that we needed to do some, you know, something that's consistent and equitable across the board to get it back under control.
023If you feel like what's already there is sufficient, that's fine. I just want to make sure that parents know ahead of the game so they're not surprised. I think there's been some good questions brought up and some good points made, especially for our first read. And that'll give everybody a chance to kind of look at the Central Plains Elementary School one and the Wilson Elementary handbook and give it a good look before next month when we have it on the agenda. So, we'll move on to item number 10, the junior high football co-op. So Chase would like to continue their cooperative agreement for junior high football almost exactly like uh last year. So they're anticipating anywhere from two to four young men that would they bring over to play um junior high football agreements. Junior
024high cooperative is usually just one year. So I did talk to the coaches. The coaches are coaches are for that cooperative um just to build some of that relationship back and forth. They felt like things went really really well last year. So, I would recommend moving forward with that one-year cooperative agreement. Chase, I agree from the outside as well. And from the kids perspective, I move to approve a one-year cooperative agreement with Chase Junior High School for junior high football. Motion by Allison, second, second by Josh. Any further questions, comments, discussion? Hearing none. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes. 70. Item number 11, KASB workers compensation renewal. So, we have the workman's comp renewal uh attached. Um it's about a $2,100 increase from last year. And we also
025participate in the loyalty credit program which gives the district some additional savings on that side of it as well. So, that $2,100 is pretty comparable across the state on that workman's comp side from KSB. So, KASB, sorry. So, um I would recommend moving forward with that workman's comp agreement with KSB for the total amount of $16,943. Motion by Josh, second, second by Allison. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? same sign. Motion passes. Item 12, the Wilson Elementary Library. Okay, so this is an update on um where we're at with the leakage and everything that we've dealt with in the library at Wilson. reached out to our insurance adjuster last week. Got a little information back that it could possibly be a week to two weeks um before they're going to give us
026an idea of what the coverage looks like, whether it's a pre-existing condition before we were with the kids property insurance or not. Um, whenever I talk to the gentlemen, they recommend go ahead to go ahead and move forward with the mitigation and getting everything taken out that's got anything that's water damaged, molded, anything else like that in the library since we're going to have to do that whether it's covered or not covered. So, um, and I and I agree with them whether whether we're covered or not covered, we're going to have to take all that out, get it out, and then we're going to have to get to the root of the problem. whether it's the sinking foundation, whether it's the roof, what's causing the leaks in that library to get it fixed, um, or
027move the library somewhere else, you know, we're not going to be able to put I wouldn't advise putting anything in that library back until we get the root of the problem fixed because it's just going to keep happening again until we figure out if it's the foundation or it's the um, roof. We've had the roofing company out, I think, five to six times this year at Hollywood and at Wilson to look at the different leaks. They've done water tests and everything else on it. Two different companies, they can't find any leaks. Um there's some evidence there that it could be the foundation is settling in one side of it that it could be dropping towards the front. So um we do have one bid when um Lemonion came out that was $48,128 for them to
028come out. They go through the books. They go through the cabinets. They go through the carpet. Take that stuff out. They go to the drywall all the way down to where any water damages or any any mold that could possibly be growing there to get all of that out. Um, this would I would technically this would fall under an emergency situation. If the board does want me to go ahead and get two other bids, I'll be more than happy to get two other bids and try to get them as quickly as possible. to you guys for the end of the year board meeting coming up in a couple weeks. Um, if that's what you guys so choose. Um, I have not had a lot of experience with having uh water uh damage and all that
029stuff ripped out. So, I don't even know how comparable that $48,000 bid would be to a couple other companies coming out as well. So, um, if we want to wait till their the insurance company comes back with coverage, we can do that, but I wouldn't recommend doing that. uh the the longer we wait, the longer it's going to take to get that out of there. Um so I just wanted to kind of put that out there to the board. Just a few choices. They can um accept the bids for layman to come out and do that. Or if you guys want to give me the direction to go ahead and get a couple other bids, I'd be more than happy to reach out to get that done as soon as possible to get back to
030you guys at the end of June. Where are these guys at? So the gentleman that came out from Lummen, he he's based out of Salina. Okay. So, I think they do a lot of work everywhere. Um, where their home base is at, I don't know exactly where their home base is at, but that guy's out. That guy comes out of Salon. Um, if we go ahead and jump on it and start to get his stuff out. Are they willing to get the stuff out and wait at that point to see what insurance says or they want to proceed on with everything? No, they just want to get everything out that could that's been damaged or could have mold growing on it or could get mold growing on it at this point. That way, you know,
031we can we can look at the root of the problem. We have not dove Josh into any of what the actual root of the problem is. They this place does do with foundations and those sorts of things, but this is just for them coming out and get anything that's damaged out of there. And I and this isn't putting it all back together. Oh, this is just their mediation have taken all of it out of there. And and just from the looks of it, we're going to be talking about throwing away books. We're going to be talking about bookshelves, whole bookshelves gone and thrown away. Uh carpet ripped out of there in certain parts, if not the majority of the library area. Drywall is going to have to be taken out. There is some water damage
032in a couple places on the ceiling tile that's going to have to be taken out. Um, and at that point I would guess that they would look at the foundation and look at cracks or things like that that show evidence of if it's if it's, you know, do we know of of roughly what we're looking on insurance? You know, did they say, "Hey, we'll get back with you." The only thing he said is, "I've got to see if it's a pre-existing condition or not." Okay. So, if it's pre-existing that's causing that damage before we went with him, I don't know what that looks like for us. deductibles and the deductibles. Well, there's about three different deductibles it could potentially fall under. Anywhere from $25,000 deductible up to $100,000 deductible depending on what that root cause
033is and how far back it went. So, I have two thoughts. One is um and I don't necessarily want to delay this work because we need to get it done. So, and the other one was that I like the fact that that that company is also a foundation company, so that possibly they could do some of the repair work too if if need be. But my direction would maybe be to go ahead and let you try to get two other bids just to see what the difference is, but to then go ahead in this motion to allow you to proceed with up to up to 48,100. So in other words, if the other company's coming more Yeah. So the maximum would be Yeah, he precuts is what you're saying. Yeah. And that way he can
034go ahead and secure the work and get started on it before we have to have another meeting if that's able to be done before then. Anyway, I don't quite understand. But if he reaches out to two other companies and they come in less, you don't want my money to start, do you? No, she's saying a cheaper one. It's comparable. If it's comparable work, wait. Okay. But then giving him the discretion to select. Yeah. Okay. Cuz if they're close, but the other company doesn't do the foundation work, it might still be better to go ahead and go with the money onion anyway. To us for two or three months. Yeah. So, this would be good to to see make sure they're fair price-wise, but still give him the opportunity to move forward with them. Any other
035comments, questions? Will this be done by August? It won't really matter. Whenever we were chirly, whenever we were talking with them at the end of May, at the end of May, they could they could have got us penciled in in June to get it done. But when we talked to the gentleman, he said it was going to take they had anticipated it to take at least a week, if not a little bit longer. I mean, they have down eight nights, right? So, eight nights. My my concern is that how if we wait any longer, you know, we can't get to the books in there. we can't do anything until they come in and go through all of those items. So, you know, if they're still two weeks out, I would guess we're probably looking at
036the end of June or the start of July. And again, I would just be shooting from the hip on guessing on on that if they're still on the same I have talked to the gentleman that came out a couple times. He's just keeping up with me on where we're at on things. So, um I'm just waiting for the go-ahad if that's the direction we go. But like I said, I have no reference to know if this is comparable or not. Yeah, that's that's the only reason that I think getting another bid would be good just to because I don't have any idea either, but I don't want to delay it too much. So, I still would like to give you the authority to move forward. I do know there's a journal that's a room there
037was mold in it before. So, there's been mold in that building in other rooms. Okay. And I must have been taken care of because I know the janitor told me she had to clean out the mold. Okay. That's about two rooms away. Um, it's about where that tree is where I showed you that tree was going up. So, I don't know why there's mold in one. I don't know. But I was just wondering if the mold would spread from the library to other rooms if we don't start pre Well, well, consistently though, too. Just the way that that works is if there's moisture and air flow, that sort of thing. And we haven't fixed the problem yet because we don't know what the problem is up there. So, I would make a motion to approve
038Um what a bid up to $48,128 for the mold remediation at Wilson at the discretion of Mr. Murphy. Second motion by Allison and a second by Kayla. Any further questions or discussion hearing? None. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes 70. Item number 13, the flooring rotation. Okay, so I just wanted, you know, this was kind of an unexpected number um from what we're doing in the library. So, I just wanted to bring this back up. Right now, um we did approve Millers in the amount of $12,82 for new flooring at Wilson in the preschool room, first grade room, third grade room, and the boys bathroom. I've been in contact with Millers just to put us put that on hold until we know exactly where we're at with um
039the library situation in Wilson. Um if the board decides they don't want to move forward with the flooring due to what potentially could happen with the library Wilson, they'll need to resend that motion. The board could then resend that previous motion and make another motion to move forward with flooring that's most needed. uh talking to our custodial staff, we really have got to do something in that voice bathroom up there with the flooring that's on the it's not laminated, it's vinyl. So there's it's a little bit of a I won't say it's a little bit of it's a it's a safety concern in a couple places before that vinyl is coming up off the floor. If they want to move forward with Millers doing all that for the $12,82, we can move forward in that
040direction. Um the boys bathroom itself was about was $2,68. um on its own and I would recommend still moving forward with that one. Um we're still in a good place with our capital outlay right now that we could move forward with all of it. Just really depends on what you guys want to do move in that direction. And I like I said, I I can't even give us a guesstimate on if we have to go back and fix everything in that library on what's wrong with it and then come back in with new bookshelves, new drywall, new carpet. I I I can't even shoot shoot shoot you guys a guess on what that's going to run. So, um I just wanted to open up the discussion for you guys if you wanted to have it.
041Um if we want to move forward with what we've already decided, that's fine. I just wanted to make sure you guys had that conversation. So, if they move forward, then there's no action. If they Yeah. If you decide Yeah. If you decide to move forward with the the $12,82 for the preschool room, first grade, third grade, and the boys bathroom. No motions necessary. Um, if you guys decided that you I'm just really lerary of what what that's going to run if there's no insurance on that side of it for the library. I'm already having about $50,000 just into that and not knowing. We could very easily be talking about another $100,000 if we're talking about foundation and roofing and then putting everything back. Um, but I don't I don't know that for sure either until
042we get, you know, somebody to come in and see what the problem is there. I think the most logical thing, especially not knowing if there's foundation issues or anything like that, is probably to hold off on what doesn't absolutely need to be done and to just move forward with the boys bathroom. That way, yeah, we're changing anything that's a safety hazard or anything like that, but kind of hold off until we see what's going to happen elsewhere. Any other thoughts? Well, I agree. We need to fix the boys bathroom for sure, especially the safety issue. I'm going to bring this up in the next motion. So, I'm going to go ahead and do this right now to give you guys an idea of where we're at with our capital outlay budget. So, right now, our
043cash balance after our recent tax distribution and our cash balance for our capital outlay is about 1.3 million is what we have. Okay. You only have the budget authority to spend 834,000 of that, which is still ahead of where we were at at this time last year. Um, if we talk about the price of a bus and we talk about the price of the Wilson Library being about $48,000 and not adding to that, then doing some repiping, um, here at the high school, you're talking about $232,000. Okay? So, if that's deducted, that means your cash balance is about a little under 1.1 million and your budget authority for the rest of this year, which is just this month, is $601 $61,000. And I'd be more than happy to put those say those again so you
044have them to write down so you can look at them. Is that already accounting for what we have? It is. It's counting all of the carpet already taken out. Okay. Anything we've made a motion on. Anything you've made a motion on is already out of there. So I'll say those again. Cash balance right now after recent tax distributions 1.3 mil. Budget authorities 834,000. If we move forward, if you guys decide in the next couple motions, so we talk about on buses and then the $48,000 for the library and then if we get to the repiping of part of the high school at 20,000, those three big ticket items come out to 232,981, which if you deduct that from your cash balance leaves you a little under 1.1 million. And then your budget authority is 601,000.
045And again, that's for this month because we start the new year, okay, July one. So, I was going to talk about that in the next one, but that's by numbers you guys are going to need to kind of have in your head for the fourth. So, is there any chance? So, those rooms that we had um decided to do, and I'm sorry, I don't as far as layout and stuff, do how close are they to the library? And if they think that there's foundation issues, is there a chance they would be pulling any of that flooring up to further assess or because I don't want to lay something down and then have it pulled up directly, right? So, the preschool rooms on the other side. The first grade room is pretty comparable to where I
046mean it's on the same side as the library. The third grade room is off to the south side of it. So we have the library in the middle and then we have that hall and then we have the daycare room. Kindergarten, first grade is all on that side and then once you turn that corner, third grades on that side. So I would say the first grade room is on the same side as the library of the school. Uh third grade rooms off to the north, sorry, to the south. Um and then the preschool rooms I mean over on that other hallway is in there. Yeah. The issue with the first and third grade rooms is there is some evidence of leakage when it rains like the wind blows it into the south of the building.
047We are seeing some evidence of water damage to some past water damage. So I'm I'm concerned about that as well. So, I don't know if we want to pull the carpet, you know, and look and see if there is damage there or if it's just Well, my thought was just if that when they once they cleared everything out in the library and decide that it's, you know, if they make their recommendation that it's actually a foundation issue, then I would think they would probably assess it further as needed. when they come out and look at that, it's probably a really really good idea to have them walk the other hallways, the other classrooms, just to have them take a look at it at that time, too. It might be a little extra added to the
048to the bed. If the foundation goes deeper, if it is a foundation issue, maybe have to check it all be there before we do it. If it's blowing in, got a problem there. But I'm not saying that. It's just that's what it appears. But if you're spending 50,000, what's a little bit more to make sure that we don't have another problem further on or in any of the other classrooms? Yes. And I mean, yeah, it would be nice to get it all done, but like Tamara said, and Karen, if we're having an issue, it doesn't matter if it's 6 in or two foot. If there's already an issue every once in a while, why are we going to put carpet down like she says if we got to pull it off or pull it back?
049And I don't know if this is any indication, but the other day when I came in the door, there's a snake in the hallway. [Laughter] months or anything. So if if if you guys don't So if you're going to if you're not wanting to move forward with the flooring, we need to resend you'll need to resend that motion and then have it have a vote and then make a separate motion to continue with what parts you want to continue on from the bids that Miller um gave us. And you said kindergarten classes on the other side. Um the school preschool class. Yeah. PreK is it's an inside. It's an inside. It's an inside. Okay. So, possibly not have an issue with any water issue on it. I don't think I don't Yeah. I don't again
050I don't know what we're going to get when we start tearing into some of that. So, I I would hesitate to say I wouldn't I wouldn't think that the preschool room would have However, that is probably all the same carpet. So I don't know if we would get as good of a deal if they just ordered a little bit versus doing all three rooms. So a proposed motion could be I make a motion to resend the previous motion on flooring at Wilson Elementary School at 12,082. So that would avoid this and then you can come back and pick and have to make another and decide you want to just go to the bathroom and then and I'll put that new amount in motion because I think the amounts are still I'm not going to change.
051He said when I when I asked him about it they said they're still going to be very comparable to where they were. Okay. I will make a motion to resend the previous motion of approving the Wilson flooring in the amount of $12,82. Okay. Motion by Kayla. Second. Second by Allison. All those in favor say I. Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes. And then I would also like to make a motion to proceed with the boys bathroom and the preschool room. only. There's a motion by Kayla. Should I put an amount with that, Mr. or not? I would with the prices that are on there. I would not. Okay. Um I would just say those two class those two rooms, boys bathroom and preschool room only. Yeah. And there's only two other classrooms on there, isn't
052there? There are the first grade and the third grade. Yes. I'll second. Motion by Kayla and a second by Josh. Any further questions, comments, discussion? Hearing none. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes. 70. Item number 14, the transportation rotation. Okay. So, we visited a little bit earlier this year about transportation rotation. Our hope was to not um look at purchasing a new bus until next year at this time. But the timetable on that whole those things keep getting pushed out further and further and further and further. So, um, Jamie was actually awarded a reimburseable grant for $41,245.75. Um, that would be deducted from the price of the bus that she would recommend, which is the Midwest Transit bus, for a total of $164,981. Um, they're telling us turnaround
053time right now is somewhere between 16 and 24 months. So that could mean that we don't even have the bus for 2 years. Um so the total that we would encumber is $164,981. We would be reimbursed the 41,000. There would be a reimburseable grant. So the total the district would pay for a new bus would be $123,735.75 for the new bus. Um, and again, that goes back to where we were talking just about our cash balances and we were talking about our budget authority that we have for the rest of this year. Um, I was really lry on this last week because I wanted to get to the point where we were at this week to look at what our transfers were and the three weeks out. Hopefully nothing crazy happens in the next couple
054weeks, but um we feel really confident now that that we can encumber this amount and still put us in a really good position moving forward. So um and again, if you deduct the bus cost and the Wilson library and some piping, it still push our puts our cash balances a little under 1.1 million and it still keeps our budget authority, your budget authority is 601,000 for the next three weeks in case something crazy would happen. So, was all three of these places about the same uh getting the bus? Yeah, they were all pretty close on the same turnaround time whenever I visited with Jamie. So, let me pull this up real quick, Josh, just so I can So, that does still actually kind of put us at our rotation where we're hoping. We were just
055hoping that the time would we were just hoping the time would be a little quicker turnaround than the 16 to 24 months. Is the grant for diesel only? Cuz I thought we discussed at one time that we wanted to get away from them and go straight gasers. But the last one we couldn't because it was diesel only. Yeah. I don't know the answer to that Josh. I was in on that conversation. Our last new bus was used, right? Yeah. But the grant that like Dalton said, the grant demanded it to be diesel, so we didn't have a choice in there. But I know I I think Jamie wanted to get away from them diesels. Yes. And go to the gassers. I mean, you're not going to get much more mileage out of it because our
056turnaround on them is right is not there. I did talk with Jamie and she said she'd be on call. So, I could give her a call real quick and ask her that question, Josh, because I don't know the answer to that. I I'd like to know uh if it had to be or what her reasoning was on that and and if it don't is the price change if it's a gas right were you just sending me a message you're watching huh Okay. Can I put you on Can I put you on speaker phone real quick, Jamie? Yeah. Okay. Hey, Miss Jamie. How are you? Okay. So, you were just sending me a text message. What is What are your thoughts on what Josh was talking about? The problem is it can be either diesel or
057gas. The problem is if they can even get the parts for the gas. Um the turnaround is even longer on a gas one if they can even get uh get all the parts isue to build a gas one. So how soon do we need this? Just because we have no idea when we would even get if we tried to get a gas one when we would get it in. Okay. And Jamie, I looked at our transportation rotation. We were hoping to have this bus at the start of the 26 27 school year. Right. On our rotation. Right. Right. So that sad that you're asking Dalton when this expires. So we have to let them know for too. I just No. So we Jamie's already Jamie. Are you still on here? Yeah. So Jamie has everything
058in for the grant on this side of it. that we're going to move forward with the bus. We just have to give them the go-ahead from the board motion that we're going to move forward with it. Is that correct, Jamie? Correct. Yeah. You guys have any other questions you can think of for Jamie at this time? Okay, Miss Jamie, thank you for taking a call. I'll talk to you soon. Okay. Back if you have any other questions. Yep. Thank you. Bye. Bye. Thanks. Bye. Bye. This also provides us some flexibility moving into next year, not having to encumber the price of a bus as well. So, and like Dalton said, so we're all right in our rotation even if it's going to take us two years to get it. It is okay. That actually puts
059us at the timeline that they want to get it. So, okay, it being that far out is okay. Okay, we were just hoping that we wouldn't have to encumber that amount, but and we're financially on our cap valley, we're in good shape to do that. We were just hoping that um we were just hoping that we would be able to get it next year and have it for the next year after. We don't know that if it could be, you know, if it could be up to two years two years. So, I don't know. Must be something special. Okay. I would entertain a motion to accept the the bus bid as presented for no bus transit. Yes. With the reimburseable grant. So moved. Motion by Allison. Second. Second by Josh. Any further questions, comments, discussion?
060Hearing none. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes 70. Thank you for your work, Jamie. Item number 15, Wilson Elementary enrollment numbers. Okay. So, there's a lot to unpack with this. So, what I want to do is give you guys some information and I just want to open the conversation up for you guys to have a conversation. Uh, really no motion's going to be necessary, but I think we need to have this conversation moving forward. So, um, due to our current enrollment projections at Wilson, it brings up the question that we have of whether we want to move forward with replacing um, existing members that are leaving the district. Um, basically if we hire back the positions that are that have resigned this year, um, that's going to have
061our student ratio around one teacher to every five student. It's going to be pretty close to that. Okay. Um, and I'm going to be the first to say I'm not a huge com proponent of multi-grade level classes in in one classroom with one teacher. Um but with the anticipated class sizes of 3 6 6 7 8 um in our various grade levels coming up at Wilson and then the anticipated six and one preschool grade level and four um you know I just think we're going to need a plan in place on what we're what that's going to look like whether we're hiring faculty and staff back or or what our plan is or what's been discussed even before I've been here if anything's been discussed before that. So, um, talking to Miss Moore, um, we'd
062like to involve the staff at Wilson to gain some input and developing some sort of plan to use our current faculty and staff to meet the needs of our students at Wilson. Um, but in that plan, it could I mean, we could be looking at combining class levels. We could be absorbing positions rather than hiring. you know, we could be looking at all day preschool services to um if we can't get the daycare back open to offer um an all day preschool class um on that. But I have some major concerns about that as well, guys, because you know, some of our teachers might not stay in the district that they have to teach multi, you know, multi-grades in one class. Um it could also lead to more students transferring out if their parents know
063that um two grade levels are going to be in one class. So I have concerns on both sides of this um especially with this with the student projection numbers that we currently have. And I just want to open the floor up to discussion from you guys and what you guys um maybe I don't know if you've had conversations about this in the past or this is the first time. Um but I really think we need to have a plan moving forward of what that looks like. Um so just want to give you guys a little information and open up up the floor for a conversation on what your thoughts are. you know, because ultimately if we do move some classes together and grade levels together, you know, you guys are going to be, you know,
064in on that and you're going to hear about it as well. So, um, thoughts, ideas, comments? It wouldn't be a completely new thing. They have had combined classrooms in the past. It's only been three years that they were all separated, two, three. So, I mean, I do think that's that needs to be a viable option. But we do know from the parent meeting that we had at Wilson that K1 is not a popular combination. Maybe first and second or other combinations, but the parents were very against K. They were. And Charie, my only concern about that is, you know, we're going to have some teachers in the district that have one teacher for 20ome kids and then in a kindergarten classroom, we could have one teacher for three kids. And that is best for those
065kids to have a one-on-one teacher. I will fully agree with that. We still have to be able to have some sort of comparability across the district and class sizes. And I don't know what the answer is to that. Well, is there also like a certain way that you could use some of the supplementals and some of their other rotating classes like PE, art, music to make that to where the two classes aren't actually in the room together at the same time. So, we've thought we've talked about this and thought about it a little bit. Miss Moore and I have talked about it some um if we can use those special classes. So maybe, and again this is just hypothetical. I'm just throwing this out there. If it was something where you had like third and
066fourth grade together and they started the morning off together and then the third grade went to art and the fourth grade had their reading lesson and then the fourth grade went to art and the third grade had their reading lesson. Um, you know, I think that's a possibility. The scheduling component for that would just be kind of Miss Moore, I don't I don't want to put words in your mouth, so please help me. Well, I think more what I was thinking is the way we've handled fifth and sixth grade which is I teach math and science Mr. level teaches reading and social studies or world of reading and science. We have a social studies instructor through Trina only because to fill her contract uh you know the time on her contact what one of the
067options that I've talked about not met very highly is first and second grade coming together in the similar way where one teachers teaching reading and social studies one's teaching math and science and uh social studies those pieces get you know split between them The concern there is the class identity that you know they lose their identity with the teacher and there's some other things that happen there. There's no perfect way to do this. It's it's a sad reality to where we are. But um I think that's the best way than trying to, you know, I only have an art teacher half a day. I I'm only going to have PE half a day and trying to juggle schedules around and getting everybody and getting an equitable amount of time. I just think this is going
068to give more fidelity to instruction because the same teacher is going to be teaching both uh content, you know, both the teacher teaching math, teaching math for both grade levels, so on and so forth. And it um and it ensures that at this point, if we did it, I would have two certified instructors because our other options would be that we continue to look for a first grade teacher, which we've not had any luck doing that so far or that we hire a long-term substitute which is likely going to put an uncertified teacher in that classroom at a very critical development stage. So those are the options. So really we and and we need to involve our staff in the building with what their thoughts are. And it might not be perfect for them, but
069but really what I wanted just to put out there to you guys are, you know, with those sizes, are we are we on board with absorbing those positions and trying to make scheduling work with the faculty and staff we have rather than hiring new? um or are we still, you know, with with um openings that we have in the district, are we still going to move forward with those, trying to find somebody in there? But ultimately, if we don't, we're still having to do this. So, I I just really need some feedback from you guys. And we can pull the information from the faculty and staff and try to try to mold that to what we think is going to be best. And when I say we, the faculty and staff and Miss Moore as
070well, but you know, with those numbers, you know, are we on board with absorbing those positions and moving forward with the faculty and staff we have or do you guys want those positions hired the the first grade position and then there could potentially be another part-time position that we'll visit about later. Okay. So So right now it's just the one position, first grade position for now. Yes. So, that's why I just really need your guys' feedback. Are we absorbing? Are you guys okay with absorbing those and us trying to mold that and try to get that to what we needed to be or are we still one teacher in each class and that's what you guys like to hear the feedback from the staff on that okay say one way or another I you know
071say what oh I but I'm not there every day I don't know. So um so we can get information survey wise, send emails out to those teachers that are there and try to gain some of those feedback points and then try to bring that to you guys at the next board meeting. Is that and saying that I hope you know the teachers go into this with an open mind. I mean we are all facing a declining enrollment somewhere. Things are going to have to look different. So if you know we have to do something different than we have to just I hope that you go in this with an open mind and really take a good look at some options that we can do. And the one thing I do know about Wilson teachers absolutely
072every time. It's just it's hard when you taught certain things certain ways and then you've got to change. Change is hard and it isn't always fun. I've done fifth and sixth grade for the last 10 11 years. So, it doesn't bother me to do that. I actually kind of like it. But for somebody new coming into it, but it's better than trying to juggle art and PE and this and that and getting counseling in there and all the other elements of things. I do have pair of support for this first grade group coming up that's needed. Um, so that's a huge benefit to this. huge and it's in our faith, you know, that we have that and we have an outstanding special ed team coming out of CKC. I feel like we can do it.
073It's like I said, it's just going to hurt a little bit a little while. So, are you guys okay with us getting some feedback from them and then bringing that to the next board meeting? Again, no motion has to be made. I just want to make sure we're on all the same page with whether we're absorbing positions or whether we're rehiring at this point. I agree with it. Uh but at the same time, I think we can let the staff know that uh it might totally change. Uh because like you said, it is very tough to have one teacher. I mean, there's five classes that are under 10. Uh I and I know a lot of teachers would love to have a class that's under 10 uh instead of 20 or 22 and try to
074make that work. But yeah, I agree with her. See what the staff says. I'm not a teacher. So I couldn't tell you. I couldn't tell you, hey, what grade is good to put together uh in that circumstance. So and and we'll bring that to you guys. I just like Seth, we wanted to make sure that we started this conversation early enough in the summer where we could bring information to you guys. And really from you guys' standpoint, we just need to know, are we okay with absorbing or do we want one teacher in every classroom? And we'll try to bring you some more information from the faculty and staff at the next board meeting so we're all on the same page. Okay. Item number 16, Wilson weight equipment request. Okay. So, we do have a
075request for some weight equipment that's in the existing weight room at Wilson. Um, paged. So, we really need to go through there. Our fifth and sixth graders in the past have still used the weight room in there for part of their PE day. So, so we really need to go through there and see what's being used and what's not being used and make sure if they're not using it, we don't need it somewhere else in the other parts of the district for use. Um, and then once we do that, if there are extra items, we will bring that to you guys for uh this young lady. I think she's um interested in opening her own um I just lost not weight like a gym gym type fitness center. So somewhere in Wilson to benefit that
076community, but I do know some of that some of those items are used by the fifth and sixth graders kind of like intro to weights kind of thing this morning. Yeah. So, we need to go through there and see what's being used currently with our fifth and sixth graders. And if there are items that are not being used, we need to see where those could be used other places in the district if they're needed. And then if there's items left over from that, then we can kind of create a list and see what the interest level is from that. So, no motion necessary. I just want you guys to know we're kind of working on that. Um, if you guys are okay with us going that direction. Do we have a list of what's there?
077Not at this time, but you will next. Okay. This is just Yeah. So, the items on there, so the document that's on there is what the young lady gave to us that she's looking for. So, and we do have some of those items like system being used, but we just have to go through there and make sure we have a equipment list of what we currently have. Mr. Mr. President, I move that the board go into executive session pursuit to the Kansas Open Meeting Act to discuss non-elected personnel for the topic of supplemental positions, certified staff and classified staff to protect the privacy of the individuals to be discussed with Mr. Murphy present and Miss Moore to be on call and return to open session in this room. 7:25 7:25 I got 7 7:30 yeah

Same sign. Motion passes. 70. Mr. President and I move that the board go into executive session to discuss teacher negotiation for the purpose of no noticing items for negotiations under the exception for employee employee negotiations under KOMA and that we return to
079open session in this room just yes sir at 7:42 second motion by Josh second by all Those in favor say I. I. of those in those Okay, we are back in open session and superintendence report. Okay, so I have a few items I'd like to visit with you guys about. So, all of our projects are rolling right along right now in all the buildings summerwise. So feel really good about where we're at um so far. So want to give you an update on that. And then um I do have a little information to share share can't talk on the modular setup at CPES that we've kind of been talking about a little bit. Um Lee Birfield did present some of the financing options that they could provide if we decided, you know, to move forward
080with that. I know our last conversation we had a few board meetings ago with some hardcore numbers on what that would look like. So that modular lease purchase is on there for you guys to look at whether it's a option one, option two, option three. Um gives you some more hard concrete numbers. This does not include any setup. Um when I say setup, that's the concrete, that's the uh plumbing, the electrical side of it. Um we do have the one bid from Scott Christians. It's going to be about $60,000 for the concrete work that's included on there. Um, but have not got uh any hard information, hard numbers for the dirt work, the plumbing, um, the gas and the electric. So, those are not in this financing option. So, you can look at what two
081years would run if we use their financing model. Option two would be for three years, what it would look like. And then option three um would be for a four-year plan if that's the direction that we kept going on the modular setup side of it. So a couple things I know I've I've been in communication with you guys on this is the breezeway. If the breezeway is enclosed we have to fire sprinkle the whole thing is what they're being. So, the Breezeway, they can build a walkway. They can build like a little, I don't know, awning lean tube type of roof thing for people to walk in and out of. Um, but if we do move forward and we do go this direction, I think we're going to need to look at some kind of
082fencing to put up that's maybe a privacy fencing where from the parking lot you don't see kids walking back. that point breaks that point um of people walking back and forth um for the building on that side of it. So um did visit with you guys um individually about if this is the direction we needed to move forward and we wanted to go this way that they needed to know early in the fall. That way they could make sure that everything was documented and planned and we would have it by the first of the next school year. So, um, I wanted to share some of those numbers with you guys on the modular setup. Thoughts, questions, ideas. If I don't know the answer, which I might not know, I will get you guys the answer
083on some of that. So, the breezeway situation, what do they classify as enclosed? All four sides. Mhm. So we can leave one side open, you know, and and my big thing is is weather. Mhm. You know, especially in the winter, if we can enclose that north side, so 90% of the cold weather comes from that north, it would benefit it, right? And you know, that's my big thing on it. Even if we have a privacy fence there, it's not going to 100% close, you know, a a 40 mph wind coming in and out. When I've had some conversations with uh Shane and Jane about that as well, if that's not enclosed, we would have to change the setup on that, which I mean, we wouldn't have the younger kids out there going back and forth.
084It would have to be the older kids going back and forth in that area. So, but even at that, I I would still love North Side closed. And, you know, I I I'd like to have a classification what they call closed. You know, is it a permanent structure that has no escape? Is that according to the fire marshal? Well, I'll ask him if if there's any flexibility on any of it being partially enclosed where we wouldn't have to. You're thinking like the roof and the north side. North side, leave south side open, you know. And why are they class? I mean they saying you got to have a sprinkler because possibly the only escape is back into a structure. Yeah. And I think the transfer like if it's enclosed it I would guess that they're
085probably talking about the fire being able to transfer more easily from one building to another build out like concrete or like is there a way around this storm shutter? I don't know. I'll I'll give him an email tomorrow and I'll ask Lee what what are they classifying as enclosed can we put a tornado shelter like two entrances or a walkway on both sides you know even get a grant for that I if at least we can close that north side side the options and then close or if you put fire doors on those things Yeah. Yeah. you know, because you know, we've kind of had this discussion some about our open enrollment numbers. I mean, if our open enroll enrollment numbers grow, you know, there are some classes that can't be split no matter what
086just because there's no room for them, right? There's no room to split them and put them somewhere else. So, um, just kind of an update on that. So, any other thoughts, questions? with that as soon as we can in cover any know any of the setup fees to try to break up some of those costs. have we contacted and you know quite a few for electrical and plumbing and dirt work and so the last conversation we had on the electrical um I always forget his name Mark was looking into what it was going to what what they were going to have to do on the Hollywood city side to get us the electrical that we need okay there for an electrical electrician to get it to the facility um they were still talking about what
087the gas side of it would look like on that side. Um and then um then the dirt work um what I what I'm hearing I don't have hard numbers but you're not talking about a whole lot of money on the dirt work side of it. Would Scott be willing to do some dirt work plus the concrete? I don't know the answer. He got equipment for it. Yeah. Yeah, he's doing that that concrete pour for us. So, he's going to have to do some of that dirt work over there, too. So, I can visit with him and ask him that as well. Um, you know, if this is a direction we want to move, um, you know, we would talk about with our capital outlay budget next year, um, encumbering down payments and then encumbering this
088side of it. And then the next year, we would start our rotation on, you know, our monthly expenses on what it would cost for the building. So, um, our cash balances are in a good place for us to raise that, uh, capital outlay budget going into next year as well. So, um, I know we raised it to 1.5 million last year and, um, I'd anticipate us raising it a little bit more this year to give you guys, not that you have to spend it, but you have the authority to spend it if you want. Are you thinking try to encumber some of it at the year end meeting? No, I don't think we're we're in no position right now to Okay. What we'll do is we'll we'll um the cash balances that we currently have
089in capital outlay and then with what we are estimating our tax distributions to be next year. We'll work on that for our budget. And then like I said, our hope is that if we decide to move this way, we could work on the down payment and the expenses for the groundwork to be set and then we would start our monthly would be in the next budget year. So, um, on to the next one that I have on here, water pipes. So, like I said, we're still spraying leaks in the down the main hallway, the main auditorium hallway. Water is still off at this point. Um, you know, we're we're spending $1,000 here, $1,000 there on sleeves. Um, when I talked to Tim at the actually today, I talked to Marvin and Drew a little bit.
090They're estimating to redo the piping down that one hallway to be around the $20,000 mark to put the valves and those sorts of things on it so we don't have to keep moving forward with sleeves and this hole here and this hole here and the copper piping and everything that goes with that. So, I asked them for some hard numbers so I could bring that to you guys at the next board meeting. And I think to save us money down the road um with leakage or what could happen, every time we turn the water faucets on or we flush a toilet, that whole water pipe underneath there moves. It jerks the whole thing. So we're one flush toilet or one turning the water on from that whole thing popping and then our whole um tunnel
091is flooded. So, um, instead of spending $1,000 here, $2,000 there on that, I think it would be money well served in the long run to start working on some of those tunnels. So, that one I would say would be uh our hope is to have it on the end of the year board meeting. And just sorry, sorry, I was just going to give some background information because I don't remember at what point in how many years ago this really was. I think it might have even been when Mr. Clark was still here. We had talked at that point about getting the valves for each of the tunnels. Um, and that hasn't been done, but we did get some cost estimates and it was going to be $10,000 just for the valves for each tunnel. Um,
092so to hear that we could redo it and probably change the Yeah, I don't know. and probably change the um the material and therefore reduce the cost of the valves. Hearing that it's 20,000 to repipe that whole hallway, that's that sounds much better. So, our hope is to have that on the end of the year board meeting with transfers and everything else. So, um hopefully we can not bring any more leaks and get that fixed down there for long term. So, a couple other items I want you to be aware of. Um, with the calendar, uh, in relation to graduation, we're working on calendar as well. The way that calendar falls next year for, uh, one, the 1st of May to be on a Friday, um, we are looking at graduation falling on the 17th
093instead of the 10th. Uh, the 10th is Mother's Day and the 17th we're starting school just a little bit later as well with the calendar that was uh, proposed and accepted. So, just wanted you guys to be aware of that. The senior's last day would be around that 13th. Um, and then graduation would fall on the 17th, just the way that the calendar falls. We take off of Mother's Day every year. We had a lot of people want it off of Mother's Day. Yeah. So, um, the only hard part about that is some people talked about wanting to have it on Saturdays, but we have tennis on Saturdays and we have that could be a day if the regional track meet or league track meet was ever rained out that it might get moved to
094a Saturday and then it caused a lot of problems. So, keeping on Sunday then that that the way that the calendar falls helps out with that as well because um we only have five Sundays in advance. Yeah. So, I just wanted you guys to be aware of that. Um, moving forward, we're working on that as well. So, uh, talked a little bit about with this with you guys individually. Um, baseball softball cooperative with Hisington conversation that was brought at the Hoington last board meeting. Um, Patrick is leaving. They have a new superintendent coming in. They wanted to wait to hear from their coaches on continuing that cooperative until August or September. Have you talked with the AD? They have a new AD also. I have not talked with the AD at all. So, I did
095talk to Patrick and ask him. I said, you know, we have some other schools that are really interested in us co-oping with him for baseball and softball and if if we're going to be pushed back to you guys giving us, you know, saying August or September, we'll give you an answer. Uh the other schools might not wait that long to co-op with us. And then if they say no, then we're out. watching that board meeting, I will say they're they are correct in that you don't have to maintain both cooperatives. You can just do baseball or you can just do softball. You don't have to do both. We would not be interested in that because if we can't do both of them, then we have other schools. And then on the other side of that,
096we need to offer as many girls activities as we do boys. Um, from the sounds of it, they do want our baseball numbers because their baseball numbers are not not high, but their softball numbers are pretty pretty steady. So they could say, "We would like to continue with this, but not this one." But I I would recommend us not going down that path, especially with another school that's local that would be interested in a cooperative for both of them to help drive up. So, um, I asked them I asked Patrick if he would talk to his board members about seeing if they would get their coaches to come in and talk to them so they could put it on the July board meeting so I can bring that back with you in July on what
097their thoughts were. Um, hearing from community members and and from some of you individually. Um, and from our experience the past couple years as well, it's been a really good experience with Hisington and I think most people would want to continue that way if we have the option. Um, but I don't think the ball's really in our court in that it's on ours. I think our my recommendation would be for us to move forward with Boington if they're willing to do that. Um, but if they're not and they're going to push it off further into the fall, we're going to really have to sit down and make some decisions on if we're going to wait on them or if we're going to go ahead and move forward to be able to offer baseball and softball
098um if they decide to not continue. So, I just wanted to visit with you guys about that and see what your thoughts were. Um, I don't, you know, like I said, community members really would be more interested in still partnering with Hoington, but um, I don't know that we'll have that option or if we'll have it anytime soon. So, thoughts, ideas? I would just maybe, yeah, reach out to their AD because I don't know why those coaches couldn't come talk to them sooner than that. Okay. Um, do you guys feel like your consensus would be to move forward with Hoington if they offered it? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I know there's been a lot of relationships made. Yeah. Over the years and I think that would probably be the strongest recommendation would be to continue that
099if at all possible. I'll try to have some more information in July and I'll try to keep you guys updated if I find anything else out on for our superintendence report. Okay. Item number 20, any board member reports? Um, I did get an email with the dates for uh legislative committee. Um, same thing as last year. Um, we have an orientation beginning of August and then we'll actually get together in person and discuss what what items will be at the top of the list for them to to really go after the legislation for and lobby for. So, if anybody has anything in particular you want me to take to those meetings, I think our in-person meeting is the end of August. So, I have a little while. Um, any open agenda items? Okay. Item number
10020 22 items for next month's agenda. So, we have end of the year board meeting uh June 25th at 7:30 a.m. at the district office. That's when we'll hopefully approve the negotiate agreement, have health insurance finalized, property insurance, end of the year transfers, and we'll have a um out of state FFA request at that time as well. And then, um we'll bring some of those capital outlay items like the piping. We get some hard numbers for you guys on that. And then we'll have the July 14th board meeting. will have our reorganization for the new fiscal year personnel KASB board policy updates. Uh, one program that principal Murphy's going to report on is the ref's rep program uh to add some more offerings to the high school that circulate around uh and getting some of
101our upper high school kids certified to be able to ref classes or ref classes, referee games, um, you know, junior high, high school wise. So, it's a really good opportunity for them to be able to get some of that done while they're in the high school setting and then us put them with some uh officials that are experienced and have them come back and do some CT team and JV uh junior high basketball games to gain some experience on that as well. So, well, on another note on that too, I don't know if everybody knows what a good, you know, part-time employment that can be too. What a money maker that can be. So, even for our little Oilers games, I think we had a past student who said he got $75 per game for
102repping that. So, we have some of our kids that go ref some of our tournaments that we played in baseball wise this year and they ref all day long and they it's it's good for them to be able to make some money doing that and also give back to the communities, too. Okay. I would entertain a motion to adjourn. Motion by Alison. Second. Second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes 70. Thank you everybody.
