001Yeah. So, have you done yet? I was going to say it's coming up. I think this. All right. We will call the meeting to order. And I do believe we're going to amend the agenda. Yes, we have item number 12. Um, and then item number nine, um, our one day senior trip. And then we have a a funeral request on our agenda as well that we would like to recommend to add. I would entertain a motion to approve the amended agenda. So moved. Motion by Allison. Second. Second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. 7. Um, approval of the minutes from the meeting. Those have been uploaded and in your packet for your review. Anyone have any questions, comments, changes to be made? Okay. I have to

002approve the minutes as presented. Motion by Allison. Second and a second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Same sign. And then the approval of the treasurer's report. Also move. Motion by Josh. Second by Allison. Excuse me. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? same time. Motion passes 70. Um approval of the invoices. Is there anything you would like to call out, Mr. Murphy? Yes, we do have a few big ticket items that you're going to find on there. One is the app to fund that we approved last uh last meeting. And then we have our split sped flow through, sorry, that's on there as well. We did purchase our ceiling tile for our renovation in the high school and middle school this summer as well. Then we have

003our normal graduation alliance billable amount. It's a little bit less than a white marble is, but that's the big ticket items on our invoices this month. Any any other questions? A reminder on the active fund that we do have a grant that pays half of that. The grants now is at 16,000. So that'll offset that. We have to buy that first then we get the grant. Okay. Thank you, D. I would entertain a motion to approve the invoices as presented. Motion by Allison, second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes. 70. And then the reconciliation and cash balances report is on there for you to view. Is there not a district office on this one? I have two points. I thought I had it uploaded there for

004the I can make copies real quick. There's two Wilson in a central place. Okay, I forgot to upload it. So, I'll make copies and get that to recognition of visitors. Nobody. Okay. Administrative reports. You always have to go first read. No, they keep looking at their computers and they never look up. Cash balances match our reconciliation report. Currently taking the state assessment. should finish up this week and we'll have some of course some makeups ne next week. Um had our three-year-old round up on March 25th. Right now we are planning on 26 attending. Uh we began our calendar raffle April 1st. We'll go to the end of the month. We made $7,947 on that silly raffle. So it was awesome. Um farm safety poster winners first and second grade division. First place was Logan Kerr.

005Second Clay Martin and third Max Ingram. And then in fifth and sixth grade division, first place Hartland Zinc, second place Kendall Leel, third place Lily Zinc, and then Dory RP um a fourth grader won the Kansas Arbor Day poster contest and her classmates and she will be getting some prizes from them as well. They'll donate a tree that we'll find a place to plant on our playground area somewhere. April 17th, kindergarten field trip to the Great Van Zoo in sixth grade will come to the Clavlin Community Center and the Legion. Easter break already. April 23rd, the Cosmosphere will be coming out and presenting the solar system to fifth and sixth grade. And that same day, our high school FFA kids will come and do a in the classroom for preK through 2nd. The 25th, we're

006going to have a in the building screening for three and four year olds. This is the first time we've had this. Um this is coordinated through the um CKCIE, the special education co-op. And um so we'll be screening, hearing, seeing, talking. And this is the first time we've had, like I said, in our building. And we've already scheduled one again for next fall to try and get kiddos screened early um get them in on speech or whatever delays they may need to to to have them ready for school. The 30th, our April 30th, the William Ellen White field trip for third through sixth graders. Miranda Stillwell always sponsors this and pays for it. just challenge the third that should be fourth through sixth graders um to read um the way so many William Allen White

007books and they reward him for a trip to the alley in Salina and that same day sixth grade after we'd already planned the William Allen White one sixth grade then got invited to the Ellsworth safety program which we've been going over to every year. So they're going to have some of those kids that might have both trips are going to have to pick and choose which one they want to do. Ally we'll see how tough that may be. May 2nd is career day. Uh Mrs. Robinson is inviting individuals from our community to come in and share their careers with our K through sixth grade students. That'll be in the morning. And then our sixth grade will go over to Clara Barton Hospital in the afternoon, which is another awesome experience for them um to see

008the different things in the hospital and and stuff over there. May 8th, our K through2 art show and music program. And the 9th, quite a few trips there. PreK4 to Great Banzoo. We have a fourth field trip to Ellsworth. And then our fifth graders go down to the Hollywood Depot and they get some history. That's a really neat lesson that they learn right there in our own little community. And then our playday cookout May 12th. And I didn't finish the week, but that week I'll do that in May. So any questions? Thank you. Thank you. Good afternoon everyone. Good evening. I guess after six o'clock, aren't we? So, not as quite as much going on at our school as what's going on at Jane School, but uh we do have a facult we did have

009a faculty meeting last week and we chatted a little bit about our upcoming events and some things that we'd like to see happen for next year. Um as we develop our calendar is just a little bit behind for us just because of all of the changes. There'll be another faculty meeting on the 16th. Then of course we have our no school this week. Um we are uh just about done with state testing. I think we just have one more group going through this week and we'll be all done. Have to make up testing, but all that's finished. Fast bridge will open the 22nd of April and we'll close on the 25th. Um the 22nd is Earth Day. the 28th we'll have our um spring concert at six o'clock and that will include an art show

010that our teacher has put together. On April 30th um the fourth graders will be going to the Canonopoulos Lake uh Kronopoulos Field Day at the Canonopoulos Lake. That's a lot of words to put in at one time. I do apologize this late afternoon. And then sixth grade youth safety day will of course be happening in Elsewhere. Um our after school program has 24 students who are enrolled for uh full or part-time. We continue the reading groups have increased up to six per session which is really good. Our math groups are still on announced needed basis have been between five and 10 depending on the group how many were in the after school program that day. Um we did get an update today about our daycare and Bobby did she say we had nobody on our

011wait list now? No, she said that there were I think four, five, six. Um whenever Okay. I can't It's down to like around six, I believe. Um but but there's still no openings at this time. We're still working to um get the playground finished with the fencing and everything. And then we're still in the process. Um we found out that we need to put in the restroom. So, we've got the bids for that and we're going to get that underway and then um we'll be able to open up that other room. We're hoping to have it open September is our hope. Anyway, um we did meet, our site council did meet and we're going to work together with the calendar events so we get all of that a little more firmed up. And then um

012we did go ahead and reschedule our parent dance to next year. They just it's hard to get everything together with everything that was going on with all the miss days. I did want to share with you um our first graders and Mrs. Davalo's music class and they got to take some recycled products and make really cool instruments out of them. And I was in there like four or five times throughout the whole project and it was really cool to watch them. They were having a lot of fun um trying to get the different ones. I showed you the one with the drum and they they got that to work. They could actually play the drum with it. So, I thought that was a lot of fun. My enrollment, as you can see, is up to

01384. I added a fifth a six a sixth grader. I added uh two kindergarteners and I lost two first graders and I added a first grader. Yeah. So, I kind of bounced around a little bit there. So, but we're up to 84. So, we did have our preschool roundup. Our numbers, this is one of those things sometimes parents show, sometimes they don't, you know. So, our numbers aren't looking really good. Um, it looks like seven for AM for the three-year-olds and then probably somewhere around five. But, but that all being said, we have more on our list of perspective. So, we may have to go to a half a day program. I don't know yet. We're just kind of leaving that to set out and see what we get as as the enrollment process goes

014on. So, um I'm just happy to have 84 at the end of the school year. That's about where we were sitting last year. So, that's the baby. Do you have any questions? Thank you very much. Thank you. Welcome to the high school where you kind of know what's going to happen. Um, my report's pretty short. Uh, last week was a really rough week. I know we've done more than this, but um I Yeah, I just couldn't come up with a whole lot more. Um, we had prom a couple weeks ago. Everything went really well. We host that down at the um community building. Um, besides it being really cold and windy, it was it was a good night for him. Um, no problems with atrocom. They used a couple buses and went up to Salina.

015Um, so everything report the kids had a good time. They were tired, but um, they enjoyed their time up there. Um, I had been talking to you earlier this year about that CT health pathway. Um, we were able to get that approved. So, we have an additional health pathway for the students. Um, I'm really excited about that because that means any student that um takes a um CNA, CMA, phabbotomy, anything that has an industry recognized certificate to it, we get to count as completers. Um, and they get to walk with chords at graduation. So, I'm kind of excited about that for our kiddos. Um, and we already provide most of the classes um at our school, so we don't really have to change a whole lot. So, that's really excited for exciting for those kids.

016Um, the other thing that that does provide is when they go to college, um, sometimes they can, it's not really testing out or clapping out, but it's like them recognizing that they've taken the course protocol and they might be able to skip a prerequisite or something in their regiment. So, um, it's a good thing for everybody involved, um, but mostly for those kiddos. Um, you guys will have, uh, the opportunity to see that senior skip day. Um that will be next Wednesday. Um I put in there the athletic and activities report for just numbers for the spring activities. We have 30 in track, five going over for baseball, eight in forensics, which I know they started in um January, but I hadn't reported those numbers yet. Um powerlifting, I didn't get the number in there,

017but it was 24 um that we had participate on Saturday. Um we have five girls going over for softball. um 12 tennis players and um 30 high school track students. Um we hosted the junior high track at Ellenwood last week. Um we hosted powerlifting on Saturday. We had roughly 400 lifters from all over the state come in. Um everything went really well. It took forever. We didn't get out of here till after 5, but um it went really well and it was airond conditioned, you guys. It was great. So, um good report there. I mis typed this in. We hosted the regional forensics festival on Saturday here as well. It wasn't state. I'm sorry about that. Um and our our students did extremely well. Um came away with a lot of ones from that. Uh

018for the counselor's report, um several students have signed up to participate in college exploration days. Um Corey took several students today to Fort Hayes. We had a trip planned on Wednesday. Um but we will have to um not be able to go to that. We'll find something else for those students to be able to participate in. It was a build your future event that Salina puts on and it was for like construction and like building things. Um, so we'll try to find something as an alternative for those students to be able to participate in that. Um, our community scholarships were due a couple weeks ago. We had 16 of our 204 uh seniors apply for the community scholarships. They will have their interviews on Sunday with the interview committee. Um, not this Sunday. I think

019it's maybe the maybe not not this Sunday, but next Sunday. Um, we'll do ACUPP acupplacer testing for students if they want to take any college classes for next year. Um, we'll have the college come here and they'll take the test here. They can also use their ACT score um to be able to get into like college algebra or um college comp. Um there's a couple of students who are taking a um biology class right now. So they had to have an entrance exam to get or test score to be able to get into that one as well just so that they could handle the material. Um and so that will be u available pretty soon. One thing that I didn't put on here that I'm excited about doing for the seniors. Oh, I did have

020it on here. I just skipped over it. Um we're going to do a senior signing day on May 2nd. Um I've done this at previous schools and it's been very um wellreceived by the community. So we'll set up a table for each of the students with whatever their plans are. If it's um technical school, if it's going straight into the workforce, if it is collegebound, um whatever their plan is, we'll give them a chance to sign. um they will ask a mentor to come be with them and their mentor gets to sign with them and then their families are invited to come in and take pictures and um just a celebration cuz I feel like you know we have graduation but are we celebrating like what what's after graduation for them. So um the cool

021thing about it that we found happened totally by accident. I didn't really expect this to happen but then the next year the juniors were like oh I got to figure out what I'm doing so I know what to do on signing day. So, I thought that was really cool that they it kind of helped them look toward their future because they didn't want to not know what they were doing. So, that's number four. Thank you. Thank [Music] you. And then item number nine. Um, and I do want to take the chance to express our condolences um to Tim and Brenda and the Flu Hall family. I'm sure I think most of us have talked to them or seen them, but as a board I want to express our condolences. It's been kind of a rough

022year with former student in Wilson and then and then this taking place recently. So, um the funeral services for Brody will be at 10 o'clock on Wednesday at the Cath at the Catholic Church here in Claflin. Um, we requested no school districtwide for any any employees, faculty, staff, or students that want to attend the funeral proceedings throughout that morning and then in the afternoon as well. So, um, we still are going to have a good a cushion of a couple days in there if we need it for something crazy to happen. So, I would recommend that, um, we have no school in the district for Wednesday this week. to approve district motion by Kayla second and a second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes. And then

023uh tennis courts. Michael Ryan's going to talk to us. Forgive me if I screw some up. here. It's my first board real board meeting I've ever really been to. So, I could experience something today. Um, and feel free to interrupt whenever you want to. Um, it'll help me out a little bit probably. All right. So, the main goal today is basically to, uh, get the green light to move forward and hope that or so I can see if people in the community are interested in pursuing it. Um, uh, one of my biggest frustrations here in tennis over the last couple years is I or we just don't have the space that we need to give the kids the best experience possible. I don't think I came from Smoky Valley where we had eight beautiful tennis

024courts and we had and we have more kids out here than they have at Smoky Valley. So, we don't get the same amount of time on courts that they do and that puts us at a little tougher situation. Um, we have 12 out in the guide side right now and I think next year if things stay how I'm thinking we'll have 13 or 14. Um, the girls have nine this year and next year they'll have 10 or 11. Um, and right now I have to send three to four kids a day to the park for practice. And I just don't think that's fair to them and giving them a good experience, a true experience be like in basketball. Uh, a lot of times it's some of our lower level kids to head that direction telling

025your C team kids, "Okay, you got to go somewhere else and you're practicing by yourself basically." And I just don't think that's super fair to them and not giving them the experience that I want to give them. Um, so that's kind of frustrating for me. Um in addition to this uh we had do a summer tennis camp uh at the or courts. We had 75 second through 11th grader no second through 12th graders last year um in four sessions. So that's 18 and a quarter kids or three/4ers kids per session on three courts. That makes it to where stuff like that is extremely extremely difficult and you see it a lot more in something like that. you have a lot of kids standing around and second graders standing around is not always a whole lot

026of fun. Uh so that's a challenge. Um, in addition to that, we if you are Yeah, it might be late enough. When we leave here today, when you look at the tennis courts, I almost guarantee they're going to be full with kids. And we struggle to find court space for in the evening, too, because I there's not many tennis people here. But it's a lot easier when you're by yourself in the evening and stuff like that because you're going to be spraying balls everywhere. And when you're hitting right next to someone, then you're going to have to stop every couple seconds. Um, so that makes it to where they got to time it up. So, some people come right at about 7:00. Some people come in at 8:30 uh to where they're trying to get

027core time by themselves. Um I know I'm biased on this and I know a lot of the projects that we do make facilities look nicer, but I think this one would really help our kids get better, if that makes sense. And that's something that I think is important that we're really trying to extend to get better something. Um a little perspective, there is only three uh schools in the state that have tennis that have a worse facility than us. And to me, that's mind-blowing because what uh Gary Bner built here um is really remarkable. And we've had a lot of success here. And there's schools that don't have very much success at all that have facilities that make ours look really poor. Um so I have, if you guys want to look, I have a

028couple pictures, and they're not exact copies by any means, but of stuff that we're thinking about. And there's two of them here. Two different ideas. And I don't know what we'd end up going with if we do end up being able to go forward with it. But a couple different options and they're really rough because I did it myself and I don't have much talent. You said you have three courts. We have three courts right now. Correct. And we really want to add three more because if we add three more, we'd be able to host um regionals because right now we got to travel. We got to go to Conway Springs here in a couple months. So, that's a little bit of a drive, but we'd be able to host regionals. Um, we'd be able

029to host some bigger tennis meets cuz nowadays, most of your meets, there's not many quads going on. Cuz right now, we can only host three other schools here. So, that makes it to where we're kind of limited in that area. And your program's had some good success, right? Yeah. Yeah. We over the years, uh, B1 state three times, I believe, and we took second on the guys side last year. We've had all kinds of people uh meddled top 12 over the years. This guy was a pretty good tennis player back in the day. Um but like I said, those are really rough sketches, but it at least gives you somewhat of an idea of what we're thinking if we're able to go through with this. Uh this one with all the blue quartz on it.

030Yep. Do we got enough space here to put bleachers? Yes, that's we 100% do that. My father-in-law uh was the coach at Smoky Valley for a lot of years and uh he actually is the one that added on to their courts and they added on four new courts, but right here uh is where we'd be thinking about adding bleachers on each side and we I don't have it on there, but we put a little concrete slab there kind of similar to what we have out here if you drive by and put something there. And because I think that's the other big thing. I mean, if we're going to improve them, we need to have the availability for people to come and watch instead of always standing and Yes. Uh and and so I I was

031just looking at them if the availability to add the bleachers still were there. Yes. And um if you look at the ones with the all blue quartz, something that we do on that one, it makes it it's pretty it's somewhat basic, but they make things to where they're about 6 foot long and you put them at the end of each quart to where balls stay on those courts a heck of a lot easier. If you go to a lot of newer courts, they have that. The ones that have some orange on it, those would all be separate courts. But, um there's some issues with that one as well that we'd have to get wrinkled out. a little bit. So, this one right here, the ones with uh these are all three separate courts. So, there

032would be fencing in between each of these to where it's all eats own separate thing. This one right here that we have out there, they're just three in one big line to where there's nothing in between them at all. And then if we add on to the blue to the north like this one shows, we'd have a six foot basically fence in between there because most of the balls go by on the back fence to help catch them to keep them on the same court. This one would probably technically be the better one, but there'd be a lot more logistical issues with that one. If we go with the one that is uh orange, we'd have to end up moving a telephone pole out there, I believe, because there's one uh sitting next to the

033light switches out there. So, we'd have to get that moved. And there's a couple different things also. And we're thinking it'd be right about half a million dollars is right about where we'd be thinking. And uh there's a couple really good grants through USDA uh which they give you $30,000 for each tennis courts that you add. And that's not guaranteed, but there's a really good chance we get it. So, that would cut a lot of it on top just up with that one right there. And while I'm here, I might as well keep talking. Sorry. But um most tennis courts get resurfaced every five years. Our tennis courts right now, it's been since I was in high school. So we're if we do end up doing something like this, we'd have to get uh those

034resurfaced also would be the smart thing to do because we're pretty far behind on that one. I do not know how much that is. I could ask because they get theirs done. They're on schedule every five years and I go over there tomorrow. I'll I'll ask on that one. There's a USDA grant for that as well. Yeah. Yes, that's correct. Um there's a USDA grant and I don't know if we've ever actually applied for it when we've redone it, but there's a USDA grant to where I think it's, don't quote me on it, $5 to $10,000 a court to resurface, which if you apply for it, you get it. So we could end up getting between the grant for the new courts and resurfacing the old courts over 100,000 towards it. Coach, when they resurface

035the old courts, do they like have to go back in and repaint lines on them? How does that work? Yeah, it's basically a clean slate and we choose a different color combination when we did it. If it was me deciding, I think we'd do a dark green and a dark gray because I saw I think Derby does that and it looks really slick. I think to give us or give central planes colors would be my thought process. I know I missed a lot of stuff in there probably, but So, you're coming today just to Are you asking the school like to get behind it or just allowing you kind of the green light to see if you could raise funds? I'd like the green light to see what we can do for now. That makes

036sense. So, I can go talk to people about it and not have to say, "Well, I don't know if we'll be able to do it or not." But because if I get the green light, then I should be able to go and talk to people and see if we can gain a little bit of headway and steam. So the the orangest red one can we get three individual courts like the blue one or does it have to be offset for the spacing? Can you can we get you you were say talking about these are three individual courts. Could we get it three individual courts side by side? And the reason why I'm saying that is because that allows more spacing. Yes. In between instead of staggered here. Yeah, you definitely could. Um the only thing

037is it would take more uh seat or take more fencing. So you'd have a little bit more of a price there. But in the grand scheme of things, that'd be pretty minor. I just threw a couple things the other just to try to Okay. Give a little bit to look at. So what are some of your thoughts for um fundraising? Um there is or how they did it at Smoky Valley is my father-in-law went around and basically said if you donate a quartz they would name it after you or basically and I don't know if that would be something that we'd be interested in doing here. So for example if the Hurley family I think it'd have to be close to $100,000 between however many Hurlies want to donate get that amount of money then

038you'd have Hurly family courts. It'd all be Gary Bner courts. So the whole facility is after be still, but that individual court would be named after them. Um, and what he recommended was uh because if you put he says you got to go to people's egos a little bit and if you can put their name on if you get one person to do that then you're going to get two then you're going to get three and you're done is what he said. And they did the same thing with their shelter that they did. Um if you I don't know if any of you guys ever been to Smoky Valley but it is absolutely beautiful their tennis facility. It's really really nice. I don't mean many when they were you when before he advanced Smoky Valley's

039cords. What did they have? Did they have three or did they have eight and they just updated the whole thing? They don't quote me. I believe they had four. There was four in a straight line. No, there was two separate ones. Okay. Two separate ones. And then they added on to two of them and they added two championship courts which are just single courts right there. Okay. Yep. If you look up or if you just Google Smoky Valley High School, they're right there. You'll be able to get a little bit of a look at it. It's pretty dang nice. And because they have the whole thing is named after a coach that coached there for a long time, Ron Dalston, and he's a legend. So, the whole thing's named after him. And then, um, you

040have a Bella family courts uh, and Jim Olster Court or something like that. And then the shelter is named after someone as well because they donated to get that put in in their shelter is really, really nice. It has Yeah, it's pretty extensive for lack of better terms. So, one thing um that we would have to talk about as a board is that we do have a general policy that no facilities um facilities are supposed to be like namedostumously after people. But obviously, we did override that for the Gary Vents. So that would have to be something if we were willing to do as a board for Michael to move forward with seeing if he could raise funds for his proposed expansion. Do you guys have any more questions for me? because I would love

041to answer because like I said I know I missed a ton of stuff that I should have talked about. Is it just a corpse or is there like a a building in between there or that already exists that or the shelter that we have is right here. So here's the school. We have a little dinky shelter right there that isn't much of one if you look at what other people have. Uh we would try to put up something pretty nice in the middle is what my thought process would be in whatever we go with because it really ties up together. because that's where basically when you're running something, everything is centered out of there and dealing different things with it. So, I know pickle ball is a really big thing now, too. Would you be

042willing to or do they do pickle ball lines on tennis courts right now? Yes. Um, a lot of people people that are doing this stuff, they do put those in because you can put them in a little lighter shade to where you don't really notice them while you're playing. It's kind of like if you look at the basketball court, there's volleyball lines on it to where it really doesn't affect it that much because it's different colors, so it doesn't bother much. So, you can have different options there. Um, and like it when we played state last year, there was lines, big ball lines on that court. You're true tennis people, the traditionalist hate it, but it's the new way that people do things so that you can get a multiple use out of it. And

043I freaking love pickle ball, so I would be all for that. And it won't prevent you from being able to host the meets that you're No, that wouldn't change anything at all because like I said at state they have and I think it's because it's a prairie village last year and they only have them on three or four I believe out of the 10 that they have there. So yeah, we wouldn't need to put them on all of them by any means. Will you plan to resurface? We would need Yes, we're overdue on those. So, even if we don't move forward with this, I was going to ask if we could figure something out there to get those resurfaced because if you go walk on them, you can see where color is fading on the

044baseline where all the where you stand all the time, where you're moving most of the time, it's fading to where you can see through it to where what the colors were before. And do you remember last time it was reserved? I should have asked B before I came because he would know off the top of his head. I think it was when I was in high school. I don't think it's been since we solid. Yeah. You think we I think it was when I was in high school. I could be wrong because they were red and green before that. When we first put them in that was a long time ago because I finished up that project. No problem. Because it was a It was a bad We had a problem. Yeah. There was Oh,

045yeah. Oh, yeah. I got left with someone down the road. Yeah. Someone down the road because they did a poor job. Yeah. I'm not sure the concrete slam. Yeah. Well, I believe they shorted this job a little bit when they did it because they had another job that someone got in their ear about a couple miles down the road. So then that's why we hold water. If you ever drive by when it rains, the side by the trees holds water extremely extremely bad. And that's because I think that someone else wasn't sloped the way it needed to be because they shorted this job a little bit because someone in Ellen will go into pickle ball court put it in his backyard. So, I know that's a side story, but but to answer your question, I

046don't know exactly when it was re I could I could text be or call be here and I you'd probably know off the top of his head here in a little bit. Well, I say he goes ahead and let's find out what it's going to take and and what we can do. I mean, I'm all for improving and and helping out the students what we need to do. Um, yeah. And I would say probably the um move forward with uh trying to find the funds, but also the resurfacing, seeing what exactly. I mean that that might be something the school board actually you know the upkeep normal upkeep of our maybe we get that done way before the rest of it gets done just because I mean you got to take care of them otherwise

047they do that's just normal wear and tear up to anything that would be out of the or being outside is even worse than being inside the gym. So well I think there is a consensus that go ahead and move forward. Thank you guys. Appreciate it. Thanks Michael. Would you be willing to stay for this next time? I will stick around. Yes. Mike, if you can ask me when the last time I will. Yeah. And and see it'd be nice to know how long has it been. Yes. Can I step out right for a second or after this I'll do the call. What do you want the minutes to say by consensus? By consensus. Um, move forward with exploration tennis court expansion and resurfacing. Okay. Coach, when you go to Wington tomorrow, can you get a

048name that they usually use to resurface? Yes, please. How many do they run by? Wington has four. Four. Yeah. Wington has four. The surrounding schools. Wington has four. Ellsworth has eight. Lions has six or eight off the top of my head. I don't remember exactly what and then Ellen would has four. No. And like you said, if we're going to do it, I do it right to where this is something that to where Western Kansas tennis isn't typically as big of a deal to where it's one of the nicer facilities around. This wouldn't be my goal doing it. Don't do it halfway. Y Yeah, but it is amazing. I'll reiterate too that or what we have and being a 321A because at state tennis they compete 321A kind of like wrestling and they combine them

049all. So we go up against bigger schools and private schools where the kids are playing tennis all year long and they get so ticked when us little 1A podong schools beat them. It's and so for as good as a team as we've had over many years and like yeah, it definitely needs to look at expanding and like Michael said, being able to provide the practice and and the reps that our teams need to get better. Okay, on to item number 11, the district daycarees. Okay, so I'm going to switch this up a little bit because this kind of ties into Michael a little bit. Uh, first of all, I want to thank Dalton for being on this committee with me for the classroom daycare because the past couple weeks it's been a lot of phone

050calls and a lot of back and forth. So, Dalton, thank you for your help with that. I do want to introduce a couple of people. Uh, Lane Beverly, you guys probably know Lane, and then Jeremy Barts. Uh, Jeremy's the president of Barts Construction. So, we've been working with them a little bit through ABCC um as the contractor for this job. So, um they I asked them to come out tonight to help answer some questions. So, when we started talking about this a couple about a week ago, Jeremy, probably about a week ago, one thing Jeremy asked is if if we had ever had the conversation about trying to attach it to the high school someway. Whenever Dalton and I talked to him, we're like, we didn't really know that was an option of being able

051to attach it some way to the high school. Um, so on the document on the board, um, if you click on the last item that's attached there, I'm going to give, um, that would be something that would give us an idea of what it would look like with attaching it to the building. Um, whenever we're talking about the pros and the cons of that, whenever we're talking about the cafeteria area being able to bring food down, we're talking about the utilities being right there, ease of access for our parents to come in the morning and drop kids off, get on the bus to Hollywood, drop kids off at the daycare if they wanted to, high school kids are dropped off, middle school kids, and they're on their way. I really thought it's something that that

052we needed to visit about to make sure you guys knew that that could be an option whether it's attached or not attached and there's a little bit of a gap between um one other item that we talked about when we talked to Jeremy and Bart's construction was you know the bathrooms at the tennis courts like we're able to get these tennis courts there you know and host some of these bigger events we you know the bathroom situation still is tough Um if we were able to look at attaching that and have the community room, a community room kind of there um to the side where we could host coaches meetings, things like that, have it uh keycarded off to the rest of the childc care facility, have bathrooms that are keycarded off to the back

053side of it as well. um to allow some of the bathroom facilities there at the tennis courts. We thought that that would need to be something that we we visited about as well. Now, talking about that road back there and how we would make it work, um you know, talking to Jeremy um about what we could do for road back there. Didn't seem like that would be any of a big deal to put a road back there. Depending how far back we went with the tennis court expansion though, not very much further back than that. you know, it gets down in a valley pretty quick down there. Um, we're also talking about putting a parking lot of some sort off that road for the tennis courts possibly if we were able to to that north

054side, build it up to some point. Um, in both of Michael's um um diagrams, you know, that tree row, if we move forward, is going to be gone from there anyway if we put a tree row at the back. I don't know if we want a tree row at the back of that for like a wind block um or actually how much space we would be be needing back there um you know for that road before it got into that valley. So just wanted to to talk about some of the pros and cons about that um to get your guys's feedback on your thoughts on that option or you know where we were at. I just see a lot of pros in this with with not as many cons depending on where that tennis court

055expansion goes um back in that area. Dalton, is there anything I missed on that from any of those conversations? Answer some, but like talk about cutting a doorway in the end of the hall if we attach it and then making a circle drive still out there in the front for drop off. Will that trigger any of the ADA compliance? Well, that was what we were going to ask him. Would there be any compliance issues if we did open that wall up to continue like where we would have to update a certain percentage of the facility for that? You would not. So, let's say that we did an addition off of this building um and did nothing but maybe cut in a doorway and you know retie in the finishes. Uh you don't have to update

056anything in in the existing building. The threshold for that is anything over 80%. So, basically what the state's saying is, hey, if you guys are going through and gutting things and moving walls, you have to update it. Um, you could go through and add carpet or ceiling tile or even cabinets to classrooms right now and it's not going to impact ADA code. So, do we know um for sure? I know. So, we're getting rid of the fryable asbestos this summer, but if we have different areas that are nonfryable, do we know where those are? Is it in the mortar like on the outside? Would that how would that change things if we do cut into um I wouldn't expect it to be um we would get it tested uh before the project started but something

057that small just cutting in an opening and and retying stuff in I mean you're talking 5,000 bucks max and that's pretty conservative. So from an asbestous standpoint, I I don't think that it would be anything to to cause concern. The exterior wall that you're butt up against, would you not? We wouldn't touch that, would you? Would you just build? We wouldn't touch it. There'd be a 2-in expan. The concrete would the concrete would tie into the existing building with an expansion joint, but everything else would have a 2-in expansion joint. So, all of your steel, your roof, all of that. Um, your roof would have a two-part flashing in order to allow it to expand and contract. Um, so, but no, nothing would would touch it. Do we know if ABCC would be on board

058or okay or So we visited with Sarah multiple times today even and they said you know really if we wanted to attach to the school they could see a lot of pros in that rather than it being kind of off on its own. Um and they didn't have the only thing they said and Dalton checked in on this today was it it has to have its own address and Dalton called in today and visited a little bit about that. So that would be that would be 620 Alberl Street would be the address for that building. So it would it would have its own address. Um but they're on board they're on board with that if that's what we wanted to do. Um no I know now sorry. You know, the one the one thing I

059haven't done on this is um I really I really feel like I need to have I don't feel I know I need to have a conversation with Tim. Um and I just can't I I I'm not bothering him with this at this point because does Tim use that area? He does. Yeah. So that that is that garage area. He would still have his office. It could give us the opportunity to turn that garage area into a couple other offices and then we would use our suburban barn back here to host to put some of that in. Um, all the utilities as well are at the end of that hall. The power is right there and all the sewer and water's right there. It's all main power right there. We wouldn't have to move anything from

060a utility standpoint. It's a pretty good situation. What about because I know with so what I was going to say was um I know with the other floor plans ideas for the ABCC they wanted to have a parking lot right there. What about even doing a parking lot off of the back of the music room so that you would the people who were going to park there would have to come in on that other road, right? but maybe accessible by that road and having that parking there which a lot of the teachers and stuff kind of park back there anyway. The other thing is the outdoor play area. So that area marked off there is estimated at at 50 by 100. So it would have to have an area back behind there that would be

06175 square ft a student. 75 square ft per student at 44 students. So 3,300. Yeah. So it' have to have a play area back there that would be you know fenced in and that would all be part of the contractor's correct right part of it. Um if this is the direction that we decided to go. Um, we also put talk about putting parking stalls in that loop like if you do have like a few pull in spots and also loop through the drive drop. Yeah, there's plenty of room out there. We take some of the yard off the high school, but it's plenty of room. Kind of walked it out and measured it. And I'm assuming we're going to have to get that totally different designed because it's not by itself now. Well, so I'll

062jump in there. So, uh, ABCC has hired us to do design build for the new childcare center. So, essentially how that works is they have one contract with us and we subcontract the design just like we would the electrical. So, we're working with GMC and architects. They're at Garden City in Manhattan. Uh we've done a lot of school projects with them and they've got a couple other childcare centers going on right now. Um so far what they've done is they put together a schematic design which they put together in a few days. Um it's basically like, hey, here's the intended floor plan. Uh tell us if we're on the right track. And we've shared those with Bobby and with Sarah um for the project that would be out on the practice field. But we've not

063gone anywhere with that just to have this meeting with you guys and see what the interest level would be for the um addition. That being said, the Hoisington design or yeah, the Hoisington design has been completely scrapped. Uh we changed design teams um that came up with a really good cost savings to go with with someone else. Um, so there's going to be some similarities there, but either way, design starting over. Also, this with the tennis court thing, one of those has an outdoor patio on one of the drawings with the bathrooms in a patio tied on. You could say, "What would like a bathroom cost?" Like, what what size of building were you wanting in the I couldn't tell you dimension. I'm awful at that kind of stuff. But if I was going to

064guess, if we were going to do it, probably about the size of your guys' tables here. That makes sense. With bathrooms and if we were going to do bathrooms. Yeah. Cuz then you or a little strip would be bathrooms. Yep. And off the top of your head, 250 grand. So if we put that in this building, that's 250 grand. We don't have to spend on the tennis court. That would save a lot of money. Save a lot of money. And we just did something for Griffin Wreck, very similar to that, a little bit smaller. And I want to say it was 158. And that was a low bid project. So it was competitive. And also that whatever that room is, we'd open that up that multi-purpose room, right? Yeah. For coaches and or whatnot. We

065just thought, you know, and I'm not a big tennis guy. I don't know a lot about I'm learning this year, but, you know, I just kind of liken it to a track meet. we're if we would be fortunate enough to get regionals or state or something like that, you know, it's on a weekend and we had that room to use where the coaches meet, do all their I don't know what you call I call it scratches, but you know, items like that. They have the restrooms right there to use as well, their key cards. So, the rest of the facilities blocked off. And then this is the the real big kicker, guys. And I hope it never gets to this point, but in 5 years, we're going to own this building. Okay? So in 5

066years, depending on what happens with the daycare, if we can move the daycare down, we need two additional classroom spaces. It's attached. It'd be pretty simple to move some of those to classrooms if we had to. Now, the hope is the daycare wouldn't, you know, it'd be full. We wouldn't have to. Um, the other side of it with the multi-purpose room is if we need to expand the daycare at some point, then we have another room to expand that daycare center that direction if that's what we wanted to do. There's a lot more flexibility by putting it in that location. There is I'm sorry. Are you pretty confident that you would be able to kind of match the exterior or make it not look like we totally just added on a random building? So, with

067an addition, there's obviously something different. We either try to match the exact brick, which sometimes be doable. Um, being this close to a brick plant south of Washington, normally we're able to do that around here. Um, but if not, then we do an accent color and it would be something that accents an existing building. I I don't know exactly what that would be, but So, which wall would be attached on these floor plans? which will be attached to the on the floor pl. Yeah. Yeah. You were ask talking about stuff I think I was going to ask anyway. What were you saying about Well, I was just looking at you know that end of that wall, the school wall is not straight. Are we making the daycare building straight and enclosing the remaining part of

068the old school or were we looking out tearing out some of that to make that wall straight or I was just curious on that. The only work that we would do to the existing building would be cutting in a new opening and then getting the utilities to the This is going up the east hallway. She's telling me about the four I think I think it'd be like here. But the four plans we have don't really match. But so we're trying to do like just a standalone building. Okay. So these ones probably wouldn't go. It would it have to be changed. Maybe parts of it. Maybe parts of it. And this shows it being square. I think you drew this up and when we talked about maybe going out and maybe making a dog leg or

069something, make it look nice. The front of the building, the south side of the building. And then that overhang, that weird roof thing. I think you cut that off. Yeah, we used concrete chainsaw and cut it off. I think that counts for us because there's really that's an overhang of to be more like a nail. So, is it going to set us back? Can we getting these different floor plan? Right now, right now we're kind of at a stopping point um for now until we can get this finalized. But all this is kind of you know they went they had tesser first and then when they went back to tesser to say okay we need to modify this building some to get new floor plans I don't remember what the cost was 70 grand yeah

07070 grand for them just to redo the blueprints that's why I was asking about it because so then when they went when we decided to go away from that that's when um we contacted Barts and Barts came in and um so we're kind of back to the blueprint phase in for this. Now, there there's another part of the finance side that I want to go over with you guys, but I don't know if we want to talk about that now or if you guys want to kind of cuz it doesn't really matter whether it's here or there on the finance side. It's going to have to be a conversation we have because I want you guys to know where we're at on that side. So, do you want to you want me to go ahead

071and put that in there or do you want to continue discussing the location or just kind of have it all in one big bundle, I guess? So, what you have squared off here, does that include area for the playground? That's building. That's building here somewhere. There's an air conditioning unit or something we go up close to but then that way yeah long term I think this feeds into better for what we could possibly need you know longevity wise for future but all being together and being able to share the kitchen and stuff. I mean, you're not getting in a car every time or something to drive back and forth or the other building, you know, just we got a gym here. I don't know if the kids would be allowed to go into the gym

072on a rainy day. I don't know, but it's all attached. Other thing I had said to Bobby was I didn't know. So, you talked about, you know, making that garage into two rooms. Is there any way to make that garage have a hallway and use the We talked about that, too. The garage door has the door. Yeah, we talked about that, too. Spacewise, it just didn't lay out the best. It's not the best, but it's an option. But we'd kind of like to use it. We could turn that into two rooms. He was, you know, offices or it's a pretty decent size space. So, so before when we had the meeting, we went back and looked at notes and it was the consensus, right, to go with option B. So, you never made a motion.

073So, it was was the consensus side of it. So, really, we wouldn't have to resend a motion. It just be as of right now consensus is to move forward with attaching it if that's what we want to do. But I I want to have that conversation. and you guys can still go ahead and do it with like consensus, but I want to still be able to go visit with Tim about this before it's like and I would jump in and I think from the contractor's perspective and cost standpoint, I don't know that we need to change the location, but I think if we got the opportunity to say, hey, you know, give us a schematic floor plan of a standalone building and of a uh addition that fits It's the budget and then we bring

074you both and then you pick. When we got those, would we also have an idea of the difference in price between the two projected? Yeah. And we could give a projected price right now. Uh because a lot of it's based on square foot, but it just it depends on on total square footage of the building. So, and you said the tie in to the old building isn't a significant expense. No. Um, you know, you're going to have additional demo expenses, but utilities are going to be less. Um, like I'm not saying it's break even, but it's trade-offs. It's trade-offs. Yeah. So even though we were tying into our existing building, so would any of that expense fall on us and out of, you know, their federal funding, their the money that ABCC has or would

075our our tax write offs that we sold, would that be able to cover like the changes that we make, you know, in case any of that would fall out out of the realm of what they're doing and fall back on us or anything like that. I think the contractor's bid coming in is what ABCDC is prepared for. Whatever that looks like, that's going to be included in the price, right? Yeah. We wouldn't necessarily We would prefer not to break things up, right? Um we'd prefer that they put the bill for it. That garage area, how big is that big enough for like a district office? Not big enough. You're talking about where that overhead door is. Yeah. No, that's where the all the shipping and receiving comes through there, too. Like if we have a

076big order coming in the semiis back up in there or, you know, that's where Tim unloads and loads. So, I mean, that's why we need to visit Tim. Well, everyone would like to see the schematics for both options. about the stand. Is it easy to unload bring food in on these plants? Yeah, that'd be probably more. Yeah. So, so bringing food back and forth if it was attached would be a lot easier on our faculty and staff and the people that work to go back and forth because the holiday. Yes. So, what would it consist of me to do two floor plans? Can you tell me about like I mean how much time that's going to take out of your crew to be able to do both of them? Uh, so we we would not

077be the ones doing that. Um, I would imagine we probably have something I'd like to say by the end of the week, but it would probably be sometime next. So, Let's talk about like a building scope. You know, talked about the the funds being encumbered by September. That's really ABCC's deal, but know that they said they really want something built by the end of December. Where does that put your timeline on this? Like I mean, you need to start if you're going to do it, you need to start building by July, August. Like I would much rather or I I would strongly be in favor of slowing it down. let's get it right and then let's start and then we'll figure it out on the back end. Because if they have to show progress by

078the end of December, we could start October 1st and give them something. Okay? So, um I I am in favor of like let's get everyone's needs addressed. Let's make sure that the money's right on all of it. Um and not hastily get into something. Makes sense. So, is the size of what we what you got sketched out, is it roughly the same size of what we were wanting or maybe a little bit bigger? So, it it it's actually about the same square footage of what that original floor plan from was cuz it's about 100 by 60. Okay? So, it's a little bit smaller with, you know, what we have mapped out here at 100 by 50. And again, that's just estimates that we've worked on. This is not by any means down to the centimeter.

079One out here I think was 50 by 80. That's kind of got down to down to. Okay. But now we might bigger. Yeah. Now there just the finance side that I still want to talk about too. Whether we if we want to wait and go go forward with trying to get both of these and bring it back and go that direction. That's great. I think that's a good idea. gives us time to still do what we need to do and talk to who we need to talk to. We just make sure we're on the same timeline with what we need to be on. I mean, from our standpoint, we don't need to have a definitive direction tonight. Okay. Let's let's get the the right decision and right price and then go that direction. So, okay.

080And I was just gonna say I think you wanted you to say, Michael, just if you had any thoughts or concerns or anything too with Yeah, that would be that would make it so nice because then that would take a big thing that we were thinking about doing and take it off our plate and then do that. And B said that 2016 was when the courts were resurfaced. Okay. 2016. So, October 10th. Yeah. basically. And then I forgot there was also my father-in-law said we he can't do the tennis courts concrete, but he does concrete work on the side and he said he donate all that. We just have to pay for how much the concrete cost, but he would donate labor and all that stuff for it. Would you be okay though having that

081little hut part of the Yeah, that wouldn't affect us at all for the most part cuz our kids are pretty loud and rowdy the way it is out there. So, this wouldn't kids scream, that wouldn't affect them at all. Wouldn't make a difference. No, with the parking lot. So, if we did do a parking lot like back there, um like off of the that the music room. Yeah. Kind of back there, would that be included in the daycare cost with the ADCC since they were planning on doing a parking lot when it was going to be a standalone or So, their intent for the parking lot was in Rock. There was going to be a drive up and parking. So I don't think ABC not to speak for them but I don't believe they're anticipating.

082Gotcha. I don't think was it planned for the circle entrance? It is. Okay. So is there that was your was that your understanding too. The circle entrance them coming in was either going to be asphalt or concrete. A hard surface. Yes. Is it specific sizewise? Like Dalton was saying, we got some play there. Can we put some parking there, but still have enough room to make a circle? I didn't I didn't know if they had a specific, hey, it's only this big. I don't think this is what we're doing. I don'tC cares as long as they could afford it. Okay. Okay. I don't think you need it. Okay. Are you talking about like here? Yes. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know how many spots we'd have room for. Like four to six maybe in diagonal. We

083have to go out there and look at just guessing something there. It's not going to be huge, right? But four to six. Yeah. Yeah, there's room to put it there. There's plenty of room for a that circle circle. It may even come out more over here, but I don't like there's room to work with it. Okay. Go ahead. Okay. So, on the finance side, I know um I've communicated with you guys on this some too. So, we have a little over 240 I think that compounded. So, a little over 245,000 from tax credits to put towards this. ABC has about $835,000 to put towards it. So, this is a concern of mine, but it's not really a concern because it's on their side. Okay. So, so they have a little under $1.1 million, okay, total,

084including our $240,000 of tax credit money. Um, and then if they can add some extra to that on their side of it, you're looking about 1.1 to 1.2 that they have for this. Okay. At the end, the bills have to come out to $1.5 million. Okay. So, you know, I think the hope was to get some inind t inind credit back from contractors and things like that. You know, I've been concerned about that just because on a $ 1.5 million project, if you're looking for $300,000 of inind, that's that's a third of the whole cost. That just is, you know, I just think it might be I don't know, think taken a little too highly of what you're going to get written off as the back end of it. So talking to Jeremy a little

085bit, they kind of have some of the same concerns. So, you know, really the question is if their budget's 1.5, but they only have 1.2 to spend, you're going to get a building that's $1.2 million, and then they're going to have to make it work out on their side. That might mean the building's smaller towards on the um attached documents that are there on the blueprints. It would be document A. I believe the smaller document A is smaller, right? So it' be document A that's on there, right, Jeremy? Am I is that correct? Okay. So that that's a $1.2 million building. Okay. In hopes that on their side of it, it's going to come out to 1.5 at the end. Okay. If you do that, you're cutting out restrooms. You're cutting out the community room.

086when I say community, multi-purpose room. Um, and again, that would be standalone. Okay. The other one on and that's all in, right, Jeremy? That's all in cost. Correct. Um, driveway, uh, building, no furnishings, nothing like that. The building itself, right? Uh, concrete work, correct? Fencing for the outside. Um, so that's what that's what 1.2 is going to get you in hopes of on ABC side. that's going to come out to 1.5. As a contractor, I don't want to speak for Jeremy. That's on their side. That makes me nervous if I'm the contractor and I'm expected to come up with those kinds of funds. If you have a 1.1 $1.5 million budget, it's going to get you that other building that's on there. Okay? Multi-purpose room, bathrooms, all those sorts of things. Now, ABCC's hope is

087in August, not in August, right now, the Patterson Grant's opening. They're filing for a huge chunk of the Patterson grant that they always do to come out to help fund this. If they get that grant, that's great because then they can move to 1.5, right? Which means the building would be a $ 1.5 million building. That's the budget you would get with the multi-purpose room moving forward. If they don't get that, they don't get that in August, then the shift's going to have to come back to where it's a smaller building, unless we're willing to put money with it. So, a couple ways to look at that. One, you could get a $ 1.5 million building attached to the high school if the Patterson grant goes through for them for nothing. Okay? besides our tax

088money that goes tax our tax credits that go to it. On the other side, if all that falls through and you still want a $ 1.5 million building, you might have to look at putting 200 to $300,000 with it to get that. Like to me, like do it now, do it later. So, if we want to build this $250,000, there's the money there. So Jeremy the task court if we waited if we waited till August till the Patterson grant was selected it could be August 1 it could be August 31st until we knew that how would that I mean where would that set you at with your construction site? So what we would propose to do is give you guys the two options of standalone and addition and then you guys decide which one you

089want and then we go through and have completed design prior to August. We'd have a bid day for our August and we'd have a GMP and then we're waiting to determine whether they get the grant or not. And then if they get the grant, then we have all the numbers, we have everything we need, we can start construction in two weeks. they don't get the grant, then the question is is is the project not going to happen and ABCC is going to pay the design team for what they did and not get a building out of the deal or are we going to come up with additional money? And I'm with Bobby. I just I don't see coming up with $300,000 to make up the difference on a project of this size. I mean, I

090think 50 is probably doable. Um, but 300 in kind donations in kind donations. 300 I just I don't see that happening. If we decide to sit tight until the Patterson grant is awarded or not awarded and then come back to the table to have this discussion, would the board still have the option of saying yes, we will to get the 1.5 million or we're not interested if you're, you know, would that still give you what you needed? Yeah. I mean, I I think from our standpoint that's not an issue. Um because either way, the design team would still get paid. Um I think the biggest question there is having a conversation with Sarah to make sure she's good. I mean, it is a gamble on like if they don't get the Patterson grant, then what's

091you guys as a board? What's your direction on it? So there there is risk there, not so much from us but for ABC. So So just to be clear, worst case scenario, they move forward with $1.2 million, it doesn't add up to $1.5 million in the end. Okay, that falls back on ABCC to the audit proceeding on them for building to building and then that would fall on them. So, I asked Sarah, you know, worst case scenario, what would they ask you to do? And they said, she said they they could ask us to give the money back, their side of it. That wouldn't fall on us because it's written in the the agreement that we only have $240,000 to put with this. So, that protects us from that side of it. Um, I just

092want to make sure you guys know all ins and outs of that whole thing to make good decisions moving forward. Do they have a lean on the building until the audit is done of the project. So, would we be looking at we gave this property to be used to build and now they're going to sell the building? I don't think they'd be able to do that with the grant. I know what you're saying. They have to give the grant money back, right? Like, where are they going to come up with those funds? Because I I don't think their organization is just sitting on cash to pay that. Yeah, I I would probably tend to agree with you. And the stipul like where we run into issues on this is that we've got essentially 1.1 to

0931.2 that we can actually spend, but there's a grant stipulation that the project has to be 1.5. So that's where this bottleneck is. If they do come up with the funding, we got to they got to show production. They have to have the Well, what we were told was there has to be something built by the end of December. Something not completed. Not completed. Yeah. I don't have those kind of credits. Yeah, I was going to like You're good. Yeah, Josh, just to be clear, that $800,000 that they have though has to be encumbered and spent by the end of September. Sorry, I didn't say that right. Has to be encumbered by the end of September. Okay, Jeremy, what are your thoughts on that side of it? So, we had talked with Sarah about an

094escrow account, which we've done before. That's pretty common thing um on addressing grant deadlines. She said the issue with that is that you have to show invoicing that equates to whatever that case may be and it has to go to the contractor. We would not accept a check for 850 grand when we just put a shovel in the ground. There's just far too much risk for us and for you on that. It it we're just not going to do that. So either way, an escro account of some kind would be incorporated and then we would likely have to bill for like all of the material or like we can get creative on that side of things. Um but it I mean it is getting pretty creative. So at this point in time, what exactly do

095you need from us, Bobby? Just the the consensus that we would like to see both options. He also wants to know if we can throw in 300,000 for this project. Throw it in as a school board. Yeah, I have that in my back pocket. Okay, that's the hard part. The hard part of it is if they don't get the grant, are we willing to go back as a district, are we willing to go back to the 1.2 in hopes that they can hit the 1.5 or are we set we want the room? We want the bathrooms for the tennis court. We want those things and we're willing to throw throw some money at it as well. And I can't say it's going to be $300,000 exactly. I don't think it'd be more than $300,000. it

096depend on what the inind write- offs would be those sorts of things as well. I don't think that it'd be over the $300,000 mark either. And the the other catch to this is that in order So I would imagine that if you guys are going to get a addition out of the deal, you would want the three classrooms and the multi-purpose with the tennis court bathroom for 1.2 million. We can't get there. And so either way, if it's an addition of that scope, more money's got to be found somewhere. Or we delete part of it and you get three classrooms. I'm really cautious about throwing more money at this. We got a lot of projects already that need addressed. Can can we do you think we have time to get both scopes so they have

097some time to visit about it a little more and then get what it would look like as a standalone, what it would look like as an attached and then be able to I mean make decisions as we're getting closer to that August deadline for the Patterson grant. Um I think that we would kind of need to we we would want to determine what because the entire idea behind design build is that we are designing to a specific budget and so that like it more than what floor plan or what area do we want to put the building in. We the budget is is kind of the bottleneck right now on you know are we proceeding as it's a 1.2 two or are we proceeding as hey like it's 1.5 and we're going to come up

098with money somewhere and yeah and what would be great is if there was no grant stipulation that the money had to be spent by September or that something had to be done by the end of the year and we could just talk about this for 4 months and then see if ABCC is able to get the Patterson grant and and then you guys decide what you want to do from a location standpoint. Unfortunately, we can't do both. Well, I feel if we attach it to the school, I I I'd want that extra. And I agree. Um if it's not attached to the school, do we need it? Would it be nice? Sure. I don't think it's so much of a demand because we're not using it for that extra facility, right? We can't take that

099200,000 that we were going to spend here and dish it into there because it's not close enough for that access. Right. I did I did, you know, I I've worked with Bill some this year and then my other Steve Carlin that's mentor and a couple things that they said that I think we need to realize is you don't get this opportunity every time it rolls around where you're going to get a $ 1.5 million building and maybe have to put 250 $300,000 at it. Bill said when I talked to Bill about it, he said, you know, you might never get that opportunity for that kind of a opportunity, you know, opportunity for return. So, um, the classroom space could be needed with the population. What's our budget look like as far as compared to last

100year? No, we're we're in good shape right now. And we'll talk about this more once we get to the capital outlay items, but you know, we've we spent $400,000 less this year in capital outlay than we spent last year at this time. So, um we're going to we're going to talk about spending some of that though here in a little bit um on some things that have to be done. But if it was something that we could budget into next year because it would be after July, you know, I think we could do that. We're just going to have to sit down and take a really close look at what that looks like and where, you know, we've got to attack the AC problem that we'll we're going to visit about that in a little

101bit and some of the other things that have to happen. But we can do that this year and then, you know, we're still looking at the modular unit or the space unit in Hollywood with this as well moving into the future. It it'll we could we could budget it moving into next year and even towards the end of this year if that's what we wanted to do. I don't know if we're ever going to get this opportunity again. That's why it's real hard. But on the other side of it, maybe $300,000 throwing it at this. That's a lot of money as well. So, I have some concerns and some cautious there. Caution there as well. But on the other side of it, if we can attach it to the school and get all these check

102mark boxes that that's going to present for us, I I I would lean towards really thinking heavily of wanting to go ahead and move it towards that side of the school and moving forward with everything it's going to offer, even if we had to throw 200 to $300,000 at it to make it happen, knowing we're going to own it in five years and it's a $1.5 million building. So, oh, sorry. Can we see a schematic with the 1.5 budget with it attached and then the other one not attached at the 1.2? Um, I haven't looked at this. I don't know if it's even possible on a project with this many people at the table, but a lease purchase could be an option like on the district's behalf rather than paying it out at capital outlay.

103Well, we're looking at other options from lease purchase side, maybe having to do at some point. So, I would be more towards if we were going to do this, we need to do it with what we have because we're going to have to do something lease purchase wise for more room. Okay. or make some decisions to create more room in the district. Um, Kayla, I'm going to repeat what you just said so I'm hearing it right. Two options. One, at $1.5 million attached to the school and 1.2 budget if it was not attached, right? Do you think, Jeremy, do you think you'd be able to give us that? We can make that happen. Okay. Now let can we talk about timeline on that Jeremy because our next board meeting is not till that second Monday

104in May if you got that to and you say in a couple weeks if if we got to that point and you were able to get us to that and you needed just a consensus because it we can't make a motion because we don't know what that's going to look like. It would just be the consensus of the board to move forward this direction knowing there could be a chance we would have to throw some you know encumbers some of our capital outlay expenses with that. How how is that going to fit in your timeline because it's May I would say so let's say by the end of next week May 12th Bobby sends the board a schematic of hey this is what 1.5 gets you attached and then option B that you guys probably

105seen it's scrapped um because dollar wise and then you guys take a week or two to think about it and then if if we can just get like a like an informal consensus like hey this is still a possibility or hey it's it's not a possibility I from my standpoint that would be good enough for us okay because I mean it is a pretty big decision to figure out a direction so I I mean I you guys would want to take the time to make the right one. So, you think May 12th is too late to give you? No, I think May 12th works fine. So, we'll consensus for the each option. Is it is everybody on board with what Kayla mentioned? Is a consensus 1.5 attached and 1.2 detached to make make a decision

106by May? I think with 1.2 2 detached. We still have to come up with 300,000. That's why we're even looking at the 1.2 design if we're going to have to spend 1.5 no matter what. Well, but that's on their side to come up. That's not that's not what we would have to come up with. They're going to have to show that on their side. That's the fear of being audited comes in with right with what Alison said. it comes in earlier or it comes in grant in August. Yeah. So if they get the grant then it's covered and we don't have to go over anything else. So 1.5 attached and 1.2 standalone. I think that's what they're talking about still. That's what their consensus is. So it's like one point I mean why why so

107then I guess I mean that just comes down to point blank if if we have to if they don't get the grant are we prepared to put in the extra right I understand that. But yeah, I mean I almost consensus. So the the thing is is the 1.5 1.2 why even why even it's just the different come up with that schematic. It's just the different looks of them seeing how it would look with the community room. You're going to lose the community room in a Well, they he could tell you that what you're going to lose right now. I mean, is it going to look exactly like the ones that they gave us here? Option A, I'm not looking at it, but there's there's three classrooms and admin space. Option B has the uh multi-purpose

108room and the covered patio. Would option A be the 1.2? I mean, that's option A be the 1.2. We've we've got that really moving some stuff around. When you ask why the 1.2, the 1.2 2 million schematic. The idea behind that is that USD12 is not going to put any money towards it and you're okay with it being detached and ABCC is the one responsible for figuring out the grant stipulations on the 1.5. And basically, you're saying like, hey, it's it's your deal. This is where you can put it. the 1.5 would be we're either gambling on them getting the Patterson grant and putting funds towards it to make up that difference to the 1.5. And if they don't, are you guys going to make up the difference? Not so much from the grant stipulation

109standpoint, but just the cost of construction because it is more expensive to do an additional on the building and add the multi-purpose and the tennis court restrooms. That's the driving factor, the cost difference on the the attachment, not so much the grant piece of it. So now I'm confused. What do you need from us today? So the consensus of the board is two things. Number one, if you want the two options, we can do that. Um, two, if we want to stick towards the 1.2 budget knowing what we're going to get, that's fine. Third option is we're willing to put money with this to get to the 1.5 if it comes to that in August. August. Dton, is that right? So, when would the remaining balance be due for lack of a better like is

110that next spring? It's a ninemonth project approximately. So, um I mean if we if we found out tonight proceed with the option A for 1.2 million, we'll probably start construction sometime around July 1st. Uh unless we run into hiccups. So then, you know, you'd be looking sometime in spring. If we're going to push that back uh in order to do the addition, we're probably looking at construction start sometime late summer. So then it'd be sometime probably right after school gets out of 26 if we wait for the grant money. Correct. I'm just going to say the wording that's been used to say whether or not we're going to kick in money and saying it's the multi-purpose room and the tennis court bathrooms, it's going to piss people off. A follow up on the timeline. um

111they have already applied for the Patterson grant. They're in the process. They're in the process. Okay. So, I have some reservation with starting any construction because a lot of the grants stipulate that they will not fund projects that are already done. So if we're like either way, we may want to wait until Patterson comes through just to make sure that we don't null and void our ability to use the Patterson funds or at least to get clarification that having started it wasn't going to penalize awarded agreement. That would that would be a real shame to get awarded the funds for the project and then not be able to use them because we already started. So we definitely want look at So I think either way we need to wait. August. Is is that fair for

112most of the grant funds you guys see? Correct. Okay. So, does that buy us a little more time, Jeremy? It buy It buy uses time. If you guys know for a fact that you aren't going to contribute any funds towards it, if there's a possibility that we're going to contribute funds. Yeah, that buys us time. You're saying 250,000 is a lot to contribute for a multi-purpose room in the bathrooms with the way it's been worded. Who's that? Not that I don't I mean I like it. I like the idea. Just saying. a lot of we're we're just here to give you guys options. I mean, it really either either scenario doesn't necessarily make a huge difference for us. So, giving you guys options to make the best decisions. Okay. So, let's move forward with the

113um schematics for the 1.5 and the 1.2 like what she said. Okay. And we'll hammer out more of the timeline and stuff. Okay. Okay. I think there's a few more. Yeah. Okay. So, the other item I wanted to visit with you guys about Thank you guys very much. Thank you. guys, drive safe. Thanks for coming out today. Appreciate your guys' time. Okay, so the other item we've talked about a little bit um is the daycare executive director. Um we do have a lady that we now employ as one of our directors that does have a lot of experience with the daycare instead of taking on a new salary at this point late in the year. Um, I wanted to gauge gauge some interest there with allowing um this lady to step over this summer and

114assist me in some of the licensing, additions, calendar advertising throughout the district daycare rather than hiring an executive director at this point. So, another way that this would kind of help not just the district but our teachers as well is our teachers have to hold a spot in the summertime at um at Holly Routt. So, if we were able to move down to one room and they didn't have to pay for their spots, it would help them funding wise. And if that happened, we would be able to go down to one room for the summertime. Um, if we did that, we would still encumber the expense salary for this lady. Um, maybe pay her a little bit more to be doing some of these same executive directors, but she has a lot of a lot

115of experience in the licensing side of it, in the childcare editions, calendar-wise, advertising helper. She's been a huge help this year. So, um, I think I would really like to explore that option this summer and see what it what it looks like and see if it works before adding that whole daycare executive director expense. I want some feedback from you guys on that side of it. Um, you know, that would alleviate some of the, you know, $40,000 salary at least this year for that executive director side of it. See how it works this summer and make a decision going in next next year. Have you talked to her about it? Yeah. Okay. Uh, she would start back, Josh. She would start back as the daycare director at her room when school started. So, do you

116guys have any thoughts on that? I think that's a good solution. Okay. Okay. And then on the Wilson side of it, uh, Miss Moore talked about a little bit, we're looking at the additions to bathroom to one of the spaces. Um, and then moving forward with the air conditioning in both those rooms at the second daycare and the first daycare room. And we'll send also with the fencing, too. So, moving that direction. And, um, I'm a little concerned that we might not need that second room. I mean, there's only six and really the way I understood it is a couple of them are infants, so they're going to take up the two slots or whatever. And I don't I don't know. I'd hate to just spend a whole lot of time and effort on a

117second room when we could maybe finish the first room, the playground, the resurfacing, everything like that that's kind of just been pushed off. And I had a few people kind of comment to me the same thing that they really don't know if there's really a need right now for that second room, right? You know, the need for the second room. We have a daycare helper that helps in the daycare that we have now that gives us a few more numbers in there. So, that's nice to have as well. So, we're really going to have to explore exactly what that number looks like because we kind of heard some different numbers the past month and a half, two months. So, we need to sit down and look at that and see exactly what that waiting list

118looks like to make a good decision moving forward. So, I think Macy has a pretty good handle on, you know, what kids she's looking at and stuff. So, definitely include her in your job. We had some conversations today about that. So, Okay, that's all I have on the daycare side. So, item number 12, the one day senior trip. So, the seniors go on there, they call it senior skip day, but is a one-day senior trip that they plan. Um, that itinerary is uploaded to the board site. So, you can take a look at that if you'd like. Um, in the past, we have approved that senior day. So, I wanted you guys to have the opportunity to look at that itinerary and give us some feedback on that. But I think in the past, didn't

119the senior class pay for the bus driver under their funds? Yes. But I don't know. I mean, I can't say they've done every year because technically it's like a field trip. We don't have students pay for the driver, but they have in the past pay for the driver. I will say in being in education for as long as I've been in education, I really like the idea of this being structured as it is rather than the seniors just deciding a day and going and you don't know where they're at. So, it's a really good idea. Any questions? Not. I would entertain a motion to approve senior skip day as it presented. So moved. Motion by Allison. Second. Second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. 70. And

120summer school. The proposals for the summer school at Central Plains Elementary in Wilson. You'll find those attached. Last year, we were able to use part of our ESRE funds for the summer school um salaries. We won't be able to do that this year, but we're in a pretty good spot with our general fund to be able to move forward that direction. So, I would recommend a proven summer school at Central Plains Elementary in Wilson for this coming summer. Is there any further questions or comments on that? And this is the center at the central plate also. There's a motion by Kayla. Second and a second by Allison. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes. 70. Item number 14. Mr. Cooks. I am here to represent the um Refnik reinforcers.

121Um they had the idea to um offer a gift to the high school junior high teachers for items that they um could use in their classroom or um to enhance student um accessibility to you know equipment or things like that. they were um wondering if there would be a possibility of the board maybe matching some funds. Um so the idea was to have the teachers apply. Um, I think we set up to $250 from the the rough neck reinforcers and then um to see if the board would be interested in matching because that's a pretty good amount, $250 from both entities to be able to purchase, you know, something equipment wise or something for their classroom. Um, for that $500 mark, um, I've seen this before and so I just thought I would bring the

122idea to you to see if that was a possibility. Um, we do have funds for CTE already kind of in the works, so it wouldn't necessarily have to be with any of those programs. Um, but for example, um, we had our science teacher filled out a $1,000 grant to get new microscopes for the science lab this last year. So, just things like that, um, that maybe we could help with, um, throughout the school. uh the stu the teachers would apply um and the the reference reinforcers would go through those grants and um kind of weed out, you know, what was um things that we could maybe work on and um maybe just pick one or two projects. Um so all in from the board would maybe be like $500. Um, we did talk about the

123other day the op the possibility that if a teacher needed maybe like $650, um, then we could decide as a a club, um, if we wanted to go ahead and fund that extra $150 or whatever, um, but we would only ask for the $250 from the board. Um, did I cover everything? Yeah. Okay. So, um, just kind of kind of feeling out to see if that was something that you guys would be interested in doing. Um, we did also make the stipulation that on our like application thing does say too that anything bought with those funds would still be property of USD112. Yeah. So, and do you have like kind of restrictions on what they can buy? I mean, it's not just for go buy candy for Oh, absolutely. No, it would it would have

124to and that's why there's the application to I mean it would be something that we would approve because they have to tell us like how much it would cost who it would benefit like a mini grant application how many it would benefit um and then they'd have to turn in receipts for what they purchased. So, the one thought I had um as a school board member was like, "Oh gosh, are we opening a can of worms?" Um, but I do know there's the PTO and I know there's um an organization at Wilson, too. So, I mean, I feel like if they had similar things that they wanted to ask the board, you know, if we set a limit at like two per building, that still wouldn't be, you know, funds. Yeah, but it would be

125up to the PTO and the Wilson group to come to us and ask for the same thing. I think there's a little bit of similarity. Mrs. Oer might be able to speak to this with the Sorry to put you on the spot. With the Sony Hills Community Foundation, the USD12 funds, there have been times in the past where the teachers requested more than what was available and the district helped pay for that. So there's a little bit of a precedent set that I think this just continues that and I think it's great to get the the stuff into the classrooms that kids need and the teachers need. I just think too, you know, when I was in the classroom and I wanted to do something, it was nice to know that I could apply. Not

126that I would be awarded it, but I could always apply, you know, if there was something that I wanted to do with my my kids. So, and I think we're probably talking more like equipment or, you know, tangible things in the classroom. We're not talking about $500 worth of teachers pay teachers things. So, nor curriculum. I mean, the district will pay for curriculum. We're talking about like microscopes or um you know, if there's a STEM thing or if there's a robot or something that we they want or equipment in the PE closet. Um, I think that's like a a good thing for us to know where like, okay, yes, we need to set aside that money for for those teachers. So, so, do we need to make a motion for that? Yeah. Just that way

127we would know if we awarded something that that it would be matched. Yeah. Um, so I would move to approve funds up to $500 to match the um, Central Plains Rough Neck Reinforcers grants for teachers. So $500 from the minister to That's what you were asking for. Okay. I was thinking 250 250 times two cuz she was talking about doing two grants and we would match 250 times two. So 500 total. Got you. Okay, there's a motion by Allison and a second by Josh. Does anybody have any further questions, comments, [Music] concerns? Okay, hearing none. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes 70. Thank you. Um item number 15, our KASB membership renewal. So the costs are going to increase a little bit, a little over $300 for that

128renewal for this year. Um we also participated in the legal assistance with KSB with no increases this year. So the total um amount would be $11,929 in consent for renewal for our KASB membership for next year. I think this is something that's been very um very useful, very beneficial, and especially now that we don't kind of have our in-house lawyer that's here for all of our meetings and everything. Anybody have any questions or concerns? I move to renew the KASB membership along with the legal assistance fund for the 2025 2026 school year. It's a motion by Allison and a second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes 70. The SEL curriculum. Okay. So, our counselors have been piloting a new social emotional learning curriculum. This year they

129have settled on the character strong curriculum. I have a little bit of experience with this and have taught it before. This is for grades prek through K uh sorry, preK through six in Wilson Elementary School and Central Plains Elementary School. The first year cost for the curriculum is a little over $9,000, $9,62.20. Uh they're going to give us the rest of this year free for our counselors to continue with that social emotional learning curriculum. uh whenever we renew in 2026, the cost will be a little under $5,000, $4,996. Um so I recommend that we move forward in the purchasing of that social and emotional learning to use for our students um and our counselors at Wilson Elementary School and Central Plains Elementary School. We've been using that for a while. We just piloted a few

130others this year and that's the one that we've been working on since Christmas break. Is that the one we had right after Christmas break? I move to approve the purchase of the character strong curriculum as the social emotional learning for the duration of 2025 school year and the 2025 2026 school year. So motion by Allison second and a second by Josh. Any further questions, comments. I just say that the SEO curriculum I mean it's I think it's very important and important that we do have the standardized curriculum to work off of. I think this is great. So we'll go ahead and vote. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes 70. Item number 17, a beef donation. Okay, so we received a beef donation to be used at the Central

131Plains Elementary and Middle School High School of Central Plains. Uh the donor would like to remain anonymous. I move to approve the anonymous beef donation to be used at Central Plains Elementary and Central Plains Junior Senior High School. Motion by Alison. Second, second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes. 70. Item number 18, our capital outlay item. Okay. So, I want to give you guys a little bit of heads up where we're at budget-wise. Talked a little bit earlier, about $400,000 less this year than we spent last year. At this time out of capital outlay, I unencumbered budget budget balance. That's a mouthful. Um, is a little over $1.1 million. So feel really comfortable at this point where we're at this year being able to attack some

132of these items that um we need to get done. So the first one I wanted to talk about was uh the ACS um at Wilson. Uh Brian from Rubies is here to to visit with us a little bit today too and add some insight to this. So we did go pick up one of the portable AC units um from Salina about it's probably about 3 weeks ago. Um, we were going to bring it down here to set up, but we're using it in one of our classrooms for our our kids that are in the afterchool program. So, when I talked to Karen today, I didn't want to go take that from their classroom because they are using it. I would have felt really really bad. Um, so this is a band-aid is all it is,

133and it's not not a very good band-aid at that. So, you know, without having to do any major modifications to the windows, it does have a hose that shoots up through the drop down ceiling where one of the tiles goes out and it does circulate the hot air from the machine up in the the drop ceiling. Um, reached out to some electricians, some some AC guys. I was just really worried about if there's any moisture in that, which they say there's not, coming off the fans, and the moisture goes in the bottom. It's pretty loud as well. um we could get quite a few of those units on there um to put in classrooms at $14,000. I would like to go a different route. Um I did reach out with uh some help um to

134um Oh my goodness, I just lost his name. Ryan Ryan Harrison. He spent two days up at Wilson going through the electrical circuits and pulling panels off the walls. Okay. He found enough electricity without having to pull electricity from places to get us the electricity we need in that building to run split units almost everywhere we need to. So without running a second line without running a second line. I've had a lot of communication with Ryan about I'm just really nervous because these other people that have came in told us we're going to have to pull new lines in and do this and this and this and he is confident that we have enough power in that building to run these units. Okay. So on the board meeting documents, if you click on the line,

135right, the capital outlay items and you click on the one that says we'll WES split units, it does have a picture there of everything that we would be able to get done um with these split units. So on the diagram of the school, you can see the two daycare rooms that the Kurmers already are taking care of. You have the nine pink rooms and the bids to the top left corner of what those would cost with a heating component in the Mits Mitsubishi, right? Split unit and what it would be without the heat in the Mitsubishi split units. Okay. The orange room would be this bedroom. And then that green didn't really come out very well because it looks like the yellow to me. My color blindness is getting to me. But that's the kitchen,

136the preschool, and the office, the main office area in the library. And what it would be total included with electrical and without heat and with heat. Okay. So that gets us almost everywhere in that school except the cafeteria and the title room. I think the conversation has been to look at moving that towards one of the pink rooms that are on there. And then um also the virtual education department. What about the art and the music room? So the art and the music room are not included on this one either. And Brokish's room. Uh Brokish's room is just an office. He's only using that for an office. I didn't think we would want to spend the money on just that office space. Yeah. So, so it doesn't get us the cafeteria. It doesn't get us

137the virtual um offices. Doesn't get us the music room and the art room that are there as well. Um, so our total in all-in cost with electrical with the heat component in those split units is $123,91423. If we went without heat, it'd be $111,36623. When I talked to Ryan about when he would be able to fit this into his schedule to do the electrical component, he thought he'd be able to get it done in June. Anything I'm missing ordering wise? Um, for those units, Brian, how long would we estimate those before they would come in? Um, would it take u roughly a week to two weeks to get them to me? Um, how long would we be talking about like installation in those rooms? Um, total would [Music] be about 14 to 15 days. Okay.

138Um, the classrooms would be really easy because they're on the outside wall. Um the condenser would the heat pump or cooling unit would be outside right outside the wall and then the inside head would be 4 in from the ceiling down. So um those would be easy to do. I got a guy 15 years. He can fit two in a day. Um so we can live them out pretty quick. What about those middle rooms? How would that work with those middle rooms and getting the condenser set up right and getting that? So, um, with Mitsubishi, anything over 15,000 BTUs, we can run over, uh, or up to 100 foot of line set. So, nothing would be on the roof. I don't want anything on the roof because of serviceability. Um, I want everything on the

139ground. And I think you guys would be happy with that too because of the gable that Ros's gable end and trying to get that level up there and all the the Kansas weather and wind that we have would really damage him, you know, in time. So with this far out, do you think that we would be able to be able, you know, attack this and get this done in June and July? Yes. Yeah. So, what's the difference between these and what you had cruise uh quote that you said we couldn't use because the top unit wasn't working? Yeah. So, the way that they had it circulating on those inside rooms was the unit up top with the fan was going to have to run to pull air into those rooms. With these units, we wouldn't

140have to have that. Correct. Correct. Each unit would be on an individual each room would have its own remote with its own thermostat in the classroom. That's is that is the remote that's is called a zone sensor. They can control the veins, the temperature, heat, cool, auto is auto has automatic mode on the heating side and the cooling side. So they can set it to 72 and don't have to touch it. underg they still have the boiler. So, so our hope would be we would use the boiler still for heat. But what what I really think is for for that extra $10,000ish to have that as a backup plan if that boiler goes down for the day. It is really a smart investment to have that in there as a as a fall back as

141a just in case. Um, what was the savings on electrical? Yeah. So, I mean, just estimate, you know, with that unit running up top as much as it ran, it's like $9,000 a month in the summer. Um, you know, they're going to be able to set these thermostats and use them when they're in their room working. And they ne wouldn't necessarily have to run all the time when our, you know, we're not having kids in there and we're not having teachers in there. um if we had anybody in there working, they would have access to be able to run those if they needed to and then shut them off whenever they're not using them. So, I would estimate it would cut our I mean our electrical, especially in the summer down up there quite a

142bit. Anything to add on the electrical side of it, Brian? Um the these units are variable speed driven compressors, so they don't run off of 60 Hz like the one on the roof does. Um so, these run off a load. So if it has a light load in the room, it might run at at 20 hertz. This variables. Yeah, it depends. This on the demand for heat or cool. So they're really really quiet. Um they're 22 dB on the indoor unit. Um 40 on the outdoor unit. Um those portable units, I did some uh research on those. Those would be like running the vacuum cleaner in the room all day or loud. Yeah, they're 65 dB. So, in a classroom setting, it's pretty high. Pretty disruptive. Are we looking for this to be a permanent

143solution? Yes. This would be Can you give us an estimate life on warranty for these items? Um, yes. on I'm a diamond dealer for Mitsubishi. So I get you sevenyear compressor, five-year parts um from the date of installation and I will warranty the labor installation labor for two years from the date it's all done. Do you have maintenance on every year? Um all there is is um there's a filter. I wish I just brought one deal, but there's there's a clip. Just take it up like that and there's two filters in it and they're washable. Pat them down, put them back in, you're done. Is that something your technicians do like on a yearly basis? Come out and go through everything. We can do that if you guys would like to do that would be

144Yeah. Just be like changing oil in your car. Just maintenance is the last number of course. So, something something just to keep in mind with this as well, you guys do have the authority because I would need this as an emergency if we're going to have something by the start of the school year next year where you won't have to get compet competitive bids in our purchasing authority. Um, it does state in the case of an emergency, the board has the discretion to approve these expenditures. And one thing I do want to keep in mind, this doesn't fix the next five weeks. and it's supposed to be 92 degrees on Thursday. It still might be something where we want to look at a couple of those portable units for 400 bucks a piece just to

145see if we can get some AC in some of those rooms. Um, you know, what are your thoughts, Brian, on those portable units? If we have to run five or six of them for, you know, periodic amount of time for the next 5 weeks, do you see any concerns in that at all? I don't see any concerns with them. My concern is those um the condenser tube, the condenser espa tube going up into the suspended ceiling, right? That's hot air goes up in that s that ceiling. So you get I think it's a temporary thing is good for now but keeping them like that if you was to purchase all of them it would be very humid in the rooms because that air has got to go somewhere. These ceiling tiles are not sealed up

146tight airtight. So you have all that hot air going in between the ceilings or in between the suspended ceiling and the roof. So temporary I don't see any issue with it. They're supposed to be made to go outside. So you've I've seen you seen like little ones that have sixinch tubes on them and you just throw them outside of the of a window. That's what they're supposed to be designed to do. They're actually spot coolers what they are. So but it's a temporary to get you through the school year. I don't see any issue with it myself. Have you done any any schools with these split units? Yes, I've done Lucas um done 18 of them up there. Uh, Silven Grove has I think we did, don't quote me on this, but I think we

147did five or six for them. And they love them. I mean, we haven't been back on them. I think it's been three or four years ago. We haven't been back on them. So, my guys are trained. We have to get trained every two years in Nebraska. So, they they're trained on these units. So, is that price included electrical? Is Ryan doing the electrical? And can I speak for Ryan real quick? Y um Ryan had asked me I'd asked him if he wanted to come and sit in and he had some other plans tonight, but uh he did an amp draw on that panel. It was only pulling 12 amps on a 400 amp circuit. So, he got plenty of room. Yeah. So, and he was going to add another panel for the south side of

148the of the second bid that we did um to accommodate those. So, there's plenty of power. So, so do you, Bobby, need a motion to approve? So, two different motions. one to approve the split units and then one to approve purchasing the the other units to get us through the rest of the school year. No, because the other units coming out, I mean, if we go buy five of them, you're looking at a couple thousand dollars. Um but on this side of it with that cost, I would I would recommend us um moving forward with the the heating component um split units in the rooms that are in this diagram for now with electrical and Ruby's doing the Mitsubishi units. So moved. Is that is that I'm sorry. Is that this 14,3? Nope. Nope. This

149is This one's 123 914 right here. Oh, so that's not on here. Uh, no, that's on your other sheet that you got off the diagram when it looks like this. Oh, okay. I'll move to proceed with installing the sheet splits for 23. That's the one with the heating rate. Yes. $923,914 from it and Harrison Electric. Okay, I'll second. Motion by Kayla and a second by Josh. Any further questions, comments, discussion? Hearing none, all those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes 70. Okay. So, moving down here, we do also need to look at, we talked about this earlier this year. We wanted to get to this point in the spring. Our lawn mower at Wilson has over 900 hours. Um, and it does have a bad pump that's going to need

150to be replaced on it. Um, Brian, thank you for coming tonight. I'm sorry I didn't mention that. Thank you for all your time. um it does need to be replaced at the rate that it's at, especially with the bath pump on there as well. It could cost up to half the price of a new mower to replace the pump. So, with the trade in, um the quote is on there as well. Um the trade trading in and going to a 61in grasshopper from Bob's service would be $14,58. So, I'd recommend that we go ahead and replace that with the trade in of the old mower. Didn't we do one for the high school? We did last year. Y same mower. Same. Okay. Yeah. I think the one that's actually here, I'm not 100% sure, Josh,

151but I think it's got a bigger width. I think it might be a 72 in. Okay. What's it cost to fix the one that's there? Um, they estimated it between five and seven with the pump on there. if they could find if they could find, you know, all the parts and everything. The one concern was it was already over 900 hours. If they put that amount in there, there's no guarantee how long that's going to last either. Moment to approve the purchase of a 61in grasshopper mower from golf service at the cost of $14,5860. The motion by Caleb. I'll second by Josh. Any further questions, comments, discussion? Hearing none. All those in favor say I. I. I. Oh, sorry. No, I'm going to abstain. I'm abstaining. Sorry. All those. Oh, I'm sorry. And then any

152opposed? Same sign. And then so it is six to zero to one. Okay. So moving on down. This doesn't take a motion, but we are going to look at our yearly gym for maintenance here um at the high school. Um all the gyms were done last year, I believe. Um you know, one thing, the guys that usually do our gym floor, um had some recent health problems. So this is going to be a new company, I believe, out of Monizuma, Kansas. uh he came out to look and thought we could get another two years out of that gym floor before it had to be sanded down and redone almost completely. So um the practice Jimmy Wilson wasn't done last year. The secondary one wasn't it was just the main one. Did um did they get

153I know like last year here at the other place. Yeah. Did they get that redone like they were going to or did they that not happen? plan was for this. It was for this. So, so it doesn't we don't need to do that one. Okay. I don't think so. Okay. It's just for here, right? Yeah, that's what this one is. So, just kind of giving you guys an update on what they told us with that the gym for heater. Um, we are working on flooring rotation updates. And again, these are just to give you guys an idea of some things that we're working on as well. the entryways here once we have the tile taken out um going to be around $6,500. We're waiting on bids for Millers um and is am I saying that

154right? Um for our rotation for Wilson Elementary School at Central Plains. So those are kind of estimates on what that's going to look like when we get there. Again, no motion necessary. Just wanted you guys to know we're working on that. Uh one item that is going to take a motion um is our technology updates. So, um, the technology updates we did include for our rotation in this one. So, you guys can click on that and take a look at what we're looking at with our new teachers computers. Um, our Chromebook cases, we do need a set of 10 iPads at Wilson. Um, we do have a set that's so old at Wilson in the elementary school that the apps are not updating on them correctly. And then also our clear touch panel rotations as

155well at Wilson Elementary School, Central Plains. at the high school middle school. We have two clear touches uh cuz they're not receiving any of the iPads that are up there. Uh we thought that balanced out a little bit more between all the buildings. Um and then we have some clear touches that need the PC updates in them. Those are on there. And then we want to add a mobile cart to one of the units for the clear touch panels to be able to move around the school here at the high school. So shipping and handling on there. We do have a reap grant that we get every year that's a little over a little under $33,000. $32,857. Um the total price of everything comes out to $41,23. So we're looking at a little over $9,000.

156$9,086 coming out of capital outlay. And that's traditional. Looking back at our numbers, around $10,000 is usually what we spend out of capital outlay to put with that reap grant. I do want to make you guys aware from the adopt grant though, we did get 77 Chromebooks. um 10 are going to come from the district to give us an 87 number. So our sophomores, our eighth graders, our sixth graders, and our sixth graders will be the ones with that new rotation for new Chromebooks going into next year. So So last year you had a technology rotation plan where the 9 through 12 teachers were going to get replaced. Is that not happening? Yeah. No. So it's my understanding when we met as a technology group that most of them have been updated within the past

157two years. Why do you have that rotation plan then? Yeah, I don't know. So, we're looking at a kindergarten teacher, a couple sixth grade and fifth grade teachers, uh, Coach Ryan, and then Kaen for her camera. Um, whenever we talk with our technology coordinators in our technology group, almost all the rest of the teachers in the middle school, high school have upto-date computers. So, do we need to reook at that whole rotation schedule then and get it up? And and that's part of this. It's way off. Y so I do uh recommend us moving forward with these technology purchases for next year um with the documentation that's on our technology ordering plan. I move to accept the technology purchases for the 2025 2026 school year as presented. Motion by Allison. Second and a second by

158Josh. Any further questions, comments, or discussion? Hearing none. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion. Motion passes 70. Okay. So, moving on down. Um we are looking at working with train for our um air conditioning unit that's at Central Plains Elementary School. They shot us a contract price of $44,332 to be on a yearly service agreement where they come out during the year um multiple times a year to service that unit up there. so we don't get to the situation where we're at now. Um, so I would since that is a contract for yearly services, I would um recommend us doing that. I move to accept the contract for yearly services from train to the air conditioning unit at Central Plains Elementary School. There's a motion by Allison and a

159second by Josh. Any questions, comments? Hearing none. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes 70 for the contract training. Okay. So, the next one goes with the AC unit that we have in the gym, the high school gym right now. So, um I've been visiting with you guys a little bit. Um weekly announcements about that thermos the thermostats in that gym. Um the two thermostats are on the two outside walls. There are times that one side will be running and the other side will be not not running. There were multiple times during this year um during basketball games that one side was running the heater. The other side said it was 5 degrees hotter than that. So it would open up the louvers on the fans, kick the fans

160on, bring in cold air. So it make everybody feel like we had the heating on one side going and the air conditioning on the other side going. Um checked into that a little bit. the comment was made. Well, they came out and and and I wasn't involved in this, but I I find it very hard to believe um if that information was presented that we would go with those thermostats, but that's what they were they told us the information was presented and that's the thermostats that we decided to go with when they came back out the second time. We have $19,8587 still to be used on that project that we came in under budget. Correct? Yes, that's correct. Okay. So, the new control system for the thermostats for that um is going to be a

161little under $50,000. $47,529. What we're having to do now when that happens is we got to go flip the breaker off. So, it overrides that system and doesn't let both of them do it. So, during basketball season, we were Tim was going and turning the breakers off. We would cool it down during the day. turn them off so that the heaters weren't running. And yeah, there's no way to turn it off. There's no way to like just shut it off. It's either hot or cold. So, if we if we want to go this direction with the thermostats that they have that would allow us override capabilities and give our maintenance staff and our our um administration the access to that to run on their phones to kick it on, kick it off. uh we're going

162to have to come up with $27,934 out of capital outlay to put with the $19,000 uh that we currently have put back to get those controls done and done correctly. Um, I believe if you click on the capital outlay item list and click on the C chy controls, it brings up that bid cruise from Cruz. I think it would be a good idea to make sure that we have the proper controls in front of That way we don't run in to another problem down the road where oh if you would have had the right control running your unit your unit wouldn't have burned up. So and Mr. Murphy we have money for this. We do. Yep. Like I said right now just to be really clear all these items and we're going to talk about

163one more after this. If we do all these items you're looking at a little under $240,000. Okay. And we've spent $400,000 less this year than we spent last year. The other thing is it's not energy efficient at allact it's supposed to be energy efficient but if you're heating and blowing the heat out at the same time yourself well this way we can use up this 195 that we only yeah $19,000 sitting on the table so the auto would that has to be used in that one of the other things I know you mentioned But um it does allow for an app control. So like Tim and I could have an app on our phone. So if someone was using the gym and it was too hot or too cold without Tim or I coming over

164and adjusting the controls, we could do that from an app. Um that just saves, you know, anybody can say, "Hey, I'm using the gym. I need to adjust the temp." then just a little easier to well it allows you the capability of hey we have something going on for instance graduation hey I can change it prior and I don't have to be here so it could be hopefully cooled by time or heated by time that so right now if we would go in there it's running um if a student would go in there and turn the thermostat down to 60 degrees it would run all night and it I without us checking it every single day. Like they have it's completely accessible and there's no way for us to put um cages on them because

165it messes with the thermostat. So there's there's quite a few reasons for it's probably a good idea. I would recommend I would entertain a motion to accept the bid to install the new thermostats as presented. I'll make a motion as presented. Motion by Josh. Second. Second by Allison. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes 70. And the last capital outlay item I want to visit with you guys about, we did this when we did the walkthrough um at Central Plains Elementary School and talked about their playground out there. Um it's my understanding that Central Plains Elementary School has raised about $10,000 towards that project. And also their booster club, the PTO is willing to look at helping with Lions basketball goals and those sorts of things. Put a $5,000

166concrete project as well. Okay. So whenever whenever we met and talked about the the Hollywood modular unit at one point um we talked to the concrete contractor about what the estimate with that would run and he thought around $35,000. Now this we would have to bid this out. This wouldn't be anything we can do right now. um if if they're able to have that much money to put to it, I would um like to recommend us trying to come up with the extra side of that at Capital outlay to fix that before it gets worse than it is with the concrete pad out there. Again, no motion's necessary from you guys, but if you're okay with it, I'm going to seek out three bids if I can get a get a hold of the guys

167and get somebody out there to look at getting that done. Y is everybody okay with me? Yes. Mr. President, I move that the board go into executive session pursuing to the Kansas Open Meeting Act to discuss non-elected personnel for the topic of certified staff classified staff supplementals to protect the privacy of individuals to be discussed with Mr. Murphy present and return into open session in this room at is it 20? Yeah. 8:45. Yeah. 8:45. 8:45 with principal Jess Murphy to be on call. Motion by Josh. Second. Second by Allison. All those in favor say I. Any oppose? Motion passes. We are back in open session. I move to approve the resignation of Emily Thompson as a preschool teacher at Central Plains Elementary School effective at the end of the 2024 2025 school year. Motion by

168Allison, second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Same sign. Motion passes 70. I move to approve the resignation of Katie Ryan as assistant girls tennis coach and Michael Ryan as high school assistant football coach for the 2025 season. Motion by Allison, second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes 70. I move to approve the supplemental list for the 2025 2026 school year is presented with the exception of spring sports. Second motion by Allison, second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Same sign. Motion passes. 70. I move to approve Toby Holmes as the driver's education teacher for the summer 2025. Second. Motion by Allison and second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? Same

169sign. Motion passes. 70. I move to approve Darcy Meyers as the kindergarten teacher at Central Plains Elementary School for the 2025 2026 school year. Second. Motion by Allison, second by Josh. All those in favor say I. I. Any oppose? Same sign. The motion passes 70. Mr. President, I move that the board go into executive session to discuss teacher negotiations for the purpose of not noticing items for negotiations under the exception for employee employee negotiations under the KOMA. And we return to open session in this room at 5 9:05 with Superintendent Bobby Murphy present. Motion by Josh. Second. Second by Allison. All those in favor say I. I. We're back in open session. On to item number 21, superintendent report. Okay, so just a few items. Uh been in contact some with Lee Birfield on our

170modular setup. He's having a hard time right now reaching out to our contractors to get prices on things. It's just a really busy time of year and he's trying to get some of those numbers. He only heard back from two of them. So, we're still waiting on what those numbers are going to look like on the modular units. We're also working with uh staffing and scheduling for next year with our administration each building. We do have our KISSA check-in day with Amber Miller on Thursday, May 1st. Um, our sixmonth Kissa goal was to as a district leadership team gather stakeholder feedback to grade collaboration guidelines and expectations to support alignment for all grades. And we're at the process of trying to get a survey together to gain some of that feedback feedback from our faculty,

171staff, and stakeholders. Uh, we are also in the process of completing our purchase orders for our teachers and our faculty for next year. We did get an email for our health insurance. Uh, this one's a little concerning. our Green Bush Health Trust that we're a part of uh for our health insurance for our employees have decided to switch to a partially funded self-funded insurance model and not to renew with Blue Cross Blue Shield. So, they are having a meeting on April 24th at Greenbush to discuss what this looks like for each school district. So, I can't really give a lot of insight on what that's going to look like until we attend that meeting. um does make me a little bit nervous on what that self-funded insurance model is going to look like for us.

172So, I'll get you guys some feedback on that after the meeting. Um is there any objections to the district making a $50 contribution to Rough Neck Reinforcers on behalf of the uh Brody Flu Hof Memorial? That's all I have. Um, item number 22, board member reports and any open agenda items. That's my addition to open agenda. I put that in there just as a reminder for the dates for to file for election or reelection to school board. Um you can see June the 2nd is the deadline. Uh filing fees 20 bucks. Um but primaries needed August the 5th regular election in November. It's a four-year term and um you will start the second Monday in January. And those are the three that are up for reelection. So, I just that's just a courtesy so you

173guys kind of know because our next meeting I had to file with the county uh clerk's office to let them know who was up. So, I got my letter in in time. But then I just wanted you guys to know all that stuff. I think so. Yeah. Okay. And items for next month's agenda. So, we'll have personnel on there with our certified and classified lists. Uh we got a little bit of work to do on that. We'll have some more negotiation topics as well. Um, and we'll see where we're at on the capital items that we had down this month that we did not have any motions on uh to get bids secured for those items. Okay. I'd entertain the motion to adjurnn. Motion by Alison, second by Josh. All those in favor say I.

174I. Any opposed? Same thing. Motion passes. 70. Thank you everybody. Appreciate it. I did not wrap to take home or whatever share in the library. She's being kind. We're saying these ladies are going to go to get the chicken wrap. So, it's all You know what I mean? How you doing?
