but you're probably going to just no CU I was down there after you left both of them both of them yeah okay I I think we made it pretty clear where they're at right he didn't he didn't do anything that would cause problem you know take it to that level e e e there I'm sorry I got your hopes okay we'll go ahead and call a meeting to order first item is approval of the agenda move to approve the agenda there's a motion by Allison and a second by Josh all those in favor say I I oppose same sign motion passes 60 and approval of the minutes from the meeting on 10:14 a motion by Josh second second by Allison any questions comments changes hearing none everyone in favor say I I anyone oppose same
sign motion passes 60 approval of the treasures report that has been uploaded for you to review any questions comments also Move Motion by Josh second second by Allison all those in favor say I I any oppos same sign motion passes 60 approval of the invoices are there any that you would like to call our attention to Mr Murphy yes so on the uh second file that's uploaded on there the one big item you'll see about halfway down as our sped flow through that's a pretty good chunk about $90,000 for our sped flow [Music] through other than that things are normal yeah for last year so on on um applied number one the the first one on there you will see the um Ford Transit van but again that was encumbered last year and then also
our bus that we ordered did come in it does look like it has a fin on the back if you had the opportunity to seen it looks like a race bus but it did come in so it it's also on it motion by Kayla second second by Allison all those in favor say I I I any oppos same sign motion passes 60 reconciliation and cash balances report is also uploaded for your review any questions comments everything item number seven recognition of visitors students Donson thank you for allowing me to speak this evening I went to Wilson on Friday and uh to the elementary school and they had a very nice recognition for veterans program that they put on so I want to let you know that I appreciate that very much however I didn't didn't
really appreciate the fact that you had school today on Veterans Day I don't know whether you had special programs in in individual schools or or not but as a veteran I would appreciated if you didn't have school on Veterans Day May you consider that next year's budget or next year's calendar thank you Harold well he beat my thunder on the second part there my part is is not schedule any school activity on Wednesday night Wednesday night used to be a church night and uh it seems like there's either basketball practice or volleyball practice or something going on with school and uh I I've to me I think the school district can step forward and and uh and show some intestinal fortitude and tell the people no we're not going to do anything on Wednesday night
that's church night that's the way it used to be for years and years and years and all of a sudden it's changed so which tells me that where people's priorities that if they're not with church they're not being a Christian and uh so I think that they the school board should change that and tell the people here whoever schedule things on Wednesday night not to do it I know you don't have any ball games as far as I know but the practices and stuff like that your comments and this well this isn't really a back and forth time um we do U make sure that actually on Wednesday nights to make sure that our all of our events are wrapped up usually a little bit earlier so that kids can get out and get to
their religion classes but okay item number eight administrative reports okay B statements and activity accounts signed off on they match what's in the bank on the 21st of October with the site Council um the topics we discussed were projected enrollment numbers the Kea process went through that accountability report um playground improvements and also discussing possibly some additional space at cpes in the future on the 28th we had our conferences and 95% of our families um were represented and teachers did reach out to those who were not in attendance to touch base with them on November 4th our Kissa team our district level team went to Hayes um it was a good day to learn about the school improvement process and what our next step is it was nice meeting with with two small rural schools
and kind of brainstorming and you know see what they're doing what we're doing and share some ideas back and forth um we will plan to get that written we had had it written in 60 days and submitted to the state but still would like to get some more teacher input before we do that um tomorrow our Cas through six will come here to the Junior Senior High to the the play dress rehearsal on the 14th the Kansas Learning Center for Health will come out of Hallstead and do a farm to family program to our prek4 that should be kindergarten grades and then cardiovascular system for our third and fourth and that's all paid for with Dane Hansen um there's no cost to us November 17th through 23rd is American Education week um the PTO is
planning to do some daily treats to the staff as well I'll provide a meal for them on a Wednesday on the 18th the Cosmosphere will come out um and do a steam night for all grades from 5:45 to 7:30 um we'll have six different activities going on for all ages of kids to come in and participate so we hope we get a good crowd for that on the 21st our fourth grade will go to the Clon Community Center and the holwood legion and then on the 22nd we'll have Brett Crandle he's a puppeteer and we've had him many years he's really good just one person putting together a whole program um pertaining to Robin Hood and stuff and um the kids have always enjoyed that and then third grade will get to go to the
Wetland Center if anybody would like to join them and dissect Al pellet quite an interesting experience and then on the 25th of November the cosmos for comes back and we'll do a Solar System Program for our third and fourth graders can't believe we're saying Thanksgiving break and then December 9th we turn around and have our music program any questions thank you thank you good evening everyone I'm on November 2nd at Wilson we had our pickle ball tournament at 4:00 was a huge success we had 14 teams um we were able to raise approximately $500 towards our 400 $4,000 goal and we're looking it's been um suggested several times that we host another one in the spring so they had a lot of fun the kids were really enjoying it um our cop being good reward
system is going strong with students um they've been working hard to achieve weekly Awards our character Award of the month for November is empathy um for our parent teacher conferences we had 100% turnout we did complete the family engagement survey for Wilson and I have um given you a um link to that document to show you those results here's a couple things we need to work on at Wilson one of those being Community um communication between teachers and parents um just making sure that we're we're letting teachers uh parents know not only when students students are struggling but also when they do something well I think that's something that we need to work on we did also send out a transportation survey um there wasn't much difference from last year there was six yes and
two no um Mr Murphy and I did talk about that and we're talking about taking a look up by the Wilson Lake area and seeing if maybe we need to do some surveying up there just to make sure that we're reaching all of the students that would be potential candidates for Wilson um on during the week of parent teacher conferences we had our Scholastic Book Fair it was well attended our proceeds totaled around um $1,429 which is an increase of almost $250 over last year um our after school program is going strong we have about 20 students who are enrolled for full or part-time um our reading group has um increased to four per session um math groups are averaging about three per session daycare continues to have zero openings and we still have 12
remaining on the wait list um enrollment um the enrollment increased to 75 and actually tomorrow Wednesday we'll increase to 78 we have three students that are entering from Russell to our school that are moving to the Wilson Area um the one that we had was a re-enrollment from San Lucas that had left and went to S Lucas and is returning at our side Council we discussed our all day preschool program um and after app parent survey in um information during conferences it was determined that would be not be a sustainable program for Wilson at this time we'll revisit this in the spring and kind of take a look at our numbers um the biggest issue that we have is an after school program for those Littles we can have one but it's the cost of
it is just making sure and the attendance of it how you know is it worth the expense of it and so on and so forth um on October 31st did prant we had a tree that blew down in one of the storms out front of the gym and so we've replaced that tree with a memorial to Grace Bonin and so that tree now will Bloom purple um it's I hope it will be beautiful and a placard will be installed at a later day on November 2nd we had our pickle ball um November 7 14 and 21 our fifth graders are headed to Starbase um November 27 through 29 is our Thanksgiving break in December 2nd we'll be having our Festival of trees and our Wilson Elementary character awards do you have any questions all right
um we'll start off with um a couple of just informational items with um talks with Bon County Community College we met as an administrative team with with their administrative team last week um they are really interested in getting our students to be able to go over and take classes um not just classes but actually programs um I don't know we've visited about this a little bit but um students who are in high school are eligible to take CTE programs for free while they're in high school so it's the same welding program that they would take when they graduate high school but they can take it in high school for absolute free um and I don't want to step on toes with our CTE programs that we have here um but I really would like for
us to look at giving opportunities for students to be able to take some programs um and not only graduate with their high school diploma but with a certification that would allow them go to go straight into the workforce I do have two students um who are senior this year they'll turn 18 in the spring that are going to um do the CDL program um so they can do that the the um Theory class online here and then they just schedule times to drive so we will make it where they have um all their Court classes are in the morning so they'll take those uh driving classes in the afternoon when they're just missing elective hours anyways and I think I don't remember the number of hours off the top of my head but it's very
doable we can get it done they can graduate and that program I don't know if you guys have looked into what a CDL costs um but it's anywhere from 4,000 to $7,000 that we're able to get those students for absolute no money um there's even some programs out there that we can use for them to get their textbook paid for so I just think that's really exciting the college is willing to listen to whatever suggestions we have to make it um very easy for our students to be able to go over in the morning come back and take their core work in the afternoon still be able to participate in sports um it doesn't affect our funding because they are getting it's dual credit um so I I don't I want to make sure you
guys all feel comfortable moving forward with that before we continue too much um does anybody have any concerns about looking at those options I think it's a great opportunity for our students um I in in right along with that I would like for us to look at it a couple of additional CTE Pathways from the high school um for us who it's twofold we get funding for it but it's also good for our students to be able to have those preol um opportunities um so I'll be looking at a health pathway for us here so they can do any sort of health related field um and then you know we want to grow our own so like a teaching um pathway as well so that we can get students excited about um you know going
into the teaching career and hopefully keep them back um have them come back when they're finished so along with that I guess we talked about at the beginning of the year um our students the Juniors and the seniors being able to take college classes I would like for um your input on whether we can allow some sophomores to take some introductory courses that would lead into technical programs for next year does anybody have any reservations about um allowing the sophomore take an online introductory um college class I would definitely make sure that they were going to be able to handle the cour workor and um that you know we counseled with them about what it takes to take an online class make sure that they're going to be successful in it um but I think
it would be a good chance for them it could be like an OSHA class or um something along those lines to get them prepared to see if that's something that they would like to do before we send them over to the college and then it not be something they want to do everybody okay with that um the sophomores and seniors completed the ASVAB test last week um I know there were a little bit of reservations from them because they view the asbab as a military test so the military uses the asbab score but the asbab is actually a career aptitude test so once we get the scores back they'll actually be able to go into the website with their score code and it will show them careers that they would be good at based on
their scores um and the testing was not English and math and reading it was like skill test so um once they get those scores back they can go and they can see which colleges have which programs are interested in within the state or within another state if they're interested they can see if they worked in this job in Kansas versus this job in Texas what their pay range would differ you know how it be different in different states um there a really powerful uh tool I'm excited to get the kids in there and let them explore in there we'll use those scores on their IPs in the spring when we do those parent our student Le conferences so the parents can get a chance to kind of visit with their kids about what their scores
look like and what would be good for them and you know give them some input on what they think yes so they take it as sophomores um and then that way we can kind of use it and then I this year I had all the senor take it because they hadn't done it before but what we'll do is if they take it as a sophomore and then as a senior if they're not interested in retaking it um I had a couple of students last year that just wanted to retake it because they were still unsure of what they wanted to do um but for the military they need a test that's good for it's good for two years so if they take it as a sophomore then they kind of get used to it and
they can retake it and if they want to use it for the military they can but they don't have to um I don't know if you guys know the military very well but they the military uses that score so whichever Branch they want to go into the higher the score is the more jobs are available to them so it's a good preest I have one sophomore who is froth it the bit to get his scores back and it just makes me really excited that he's that into like trying to figure out what he wants to do with it so um we did have a request for to use the school gym for a fundraiser and I know we visited about the wreck using the gym for different things but I don't know that um I
just I just need a little guide on do I need what what does that look like have we done that in the past um if a if a family wanted to do a fundraiser for a family member and just wanted to do like a basketball tournament is that something that we have done in the past or I don't know what kind of liability I I just I just that wasn't something we had talked about so just have a liability waiver signed okay okay okay Athletics report the Junior High basketball started last week sorry I wrote this last week they started last uh two weeks ago um and they will start their basketball games on Thursday this week um high school basketball starts on Monday this is buffer week um I do need a little bit
of feedback our league has decided um that ver of Al Casa has decided they're going to add three additional games to the basketball tournament or sorry the basketball schedule they went from 20 to 23 games the league um the CPL league is wanting to do a league basketball tournament so they just I just am asking to make sure we have to vote next week so they ask us to bring it all to their our boards and just make sure you guys didn't have any reservations about participating in the league tournament um I I kind of put some notes on there um the league did gain approval from Casa to add a tournament we already had two tournaments on our schedule and they say we can only have two but they did allow us to add
a league tournament um for those three additional games we would have to reschedule a few games that we already have on the schedule that are during that week um but Pat says we can definitely do that um the tournament would travel between League schools so um they've grouped all 10 schools with a with two schools together and they have a whole plan on how um you know will use two gyms for the major games and then they'll use the smaller schools that only can do one gym for the like uh playin games and the auxiliary games um so it gets everybody involved so it would travel around um it would be in Kinsley the first year um just because they have extra gym space um the some of the concerns from the other schools was
adding those three extra games just causes more time out of school for our students who are already out of school an awful lot um so that I'm just kind of gaining some ideas from you guys if you guys are good moving forward with me voting for the league tournament or if you have any reservations I know you said you talked to Pat and you talked to Mike at all yeah we did we did we talked to Pat and Mike I'm sorry I I meant Pat as in the ad not as the basketball coach yes yes um yeah I know basketball season's always long it is it is a long you add more games to it yeah tourament it's um the it's right it's the week before sub it's the two weeks before substate so it
would be kind of at the end so we did talk about that we talked about um that it is already a long season there's already a ton of games um one of the concerns was if we don't go ahead and do this are we putting our students at a disadvantage of not getting those extra games in um you know everybody's got their opinion about those things but I agree with you as you know somebody who's trying to keep kids eligible um they are out of school and awful lot will it determine CD if we have less games than another school going into be it's a person it could determine would be like their percentage of wins and losses you know something to keep in in mind with this too guys is the basketball season this
year is going to be just like volleyball substate volleyball we could end up going a lot of different ways I mean the boys and girls the the percentage that they're going to play their first round games or even second round games in the same spots very very minimal so just kind of something to keep in mind because I know we're going to hear some about volleyball the travel we're going to definitely hear that about basketball as well once we get to substate so does anybody have any major concerns about the vote Yes or No for the Le tournament I think it's probably going to be a go with the league that most people are on board with it so K is making the exception for three just for this year tournament no Ono [Music] okay
um council's report I was just um letting know we have several College college visits scheduled we've had several people come already to visit with the kids and um we are still looking at the curriculum we're trying out a new curriculum well not a new one I've used it before but it's free um just to kind of have something to use this year while we do find something that we can um look out for next year I won't read through all of these but I did add several different things from different clubs and different um classes that they're doing um but I've been up here talking a lot so I'll let you kind of look through those just to kind of see what the kids are up to these days thank you guys have any questions
I do enjoy you that at the end they're doing ni and the FFA National Convention so this is six of my seven my seven one just had a emergency so she stepped out so my six will tell you all about their trip um first off the seven well six now and uh Miss shamberger would like to extend our appreciation and gratitude to the Board of Education members for letting us go on this once in a-lifetime trip to Indianapolis for the 97th National FFA Convention and Expo without your support students and staff like us would not have these opportunities and and and events to embark on together we have all gained so much knowledge and information from this convention waking up ran early isn't for everyone but we powered through and handled adversity and the need
came to be again we appreciate this opportunity and our generous for letting us come talk to you tonight about some of our experiences our first stop was at the Bayer crop research facility in Chesterfield Missouri we learned about how they can identify corn breeds and individually pick the breed of corn a farmer wants to grow by taking a chip out of the top of the Corn scientists at Bayer can identify the hundreds of different corn breeds that are in that corn without damaging the embryo of the seed I think everyone thought it was cool that we were able to see hundreds of different genetically modified plants of different sorts in the process of becoming one of Bayer's next big company releases and what probably the most impactful thing for me was being able to uh
talk to hundreds of different people in the hallways of the Expo Center that support the same cause as me the opening session for the 97th National F convention Expo was the most lifechanging event on this trip the best feeling is knowing that you are just alike and share many of the same passions as 70,000 other people in one Stadium the keynote speaker for the session was Kevin wer and shared his method of choosing to act ask care and tell his advice to those 70,000 people including us was to ask how someone is doing care to listen to what they have to say and tell them what you would do in their situation another thing I took from this show was being able to connect with people of the cultural field and get more perspective on
what they do and maybe something that I left it do experence experiencing agriculture in a new way was an eye eye opening experience at Ozark fishery we learned about the breeding and shipping process of koi gold fish and goldfish Ozark breeds up to 100 million fish per year they can base the size of the fish off the population of a pond the bigger the fish they want the less fish in a in that pond Ozark has to deal with with Predators such as Birds frogs and blue herand killing off fish it can take up to three 3 to 6 months for the koi and goldfish to gain their full color shipping usually takes up to 48 hours and the best conditions for shipping are when the weather is cold after we completed our Ozark fishery
tour we arrived at the Apache sprayers Manu manufacturing facility in moresville Indiana at Apache we learned the entire building process from start to finish of the simple simplest selfpropelled sprayer on the market Apache sprayers are lighter than most other sprayers and can be shipped worldwide while we while we were there we got to see the very first 20 25 sprayers straight off the line at Max Capacity Apache can produce 400 sprayers per year with hundreds of different options they also partner with GPS companies Raven and AG leader to have their products factory installed into the spray if the customer desires so Apache will install wiring and mounts for their favorite GPS system what I took out of this trip was that FFA isn't just farming and it's a good way to socialize the leadership SE
session which the seven us seven of us attended was called the leadership circus this session was all about team bonding and working together we believe that working together takes great communication skills responsibility and most importantly leadership throughout this session we learned what it truly takes to become a team leader we didn't think about how challenging it is to be a leader until we attended this session and we're not only assigning jobs to one another but also making a game plan to achieve the 50 goals that we had to work together to accomplish in order to be other teams we went to the temple Brandon session was the keynote speaker for the fourth General Session of the 97th National FFA convention in Expo the Colorado State Professor is autism Advocate and animal welfare activist activist she
really emphasized on importance of Hands-On classes in schools she also says that special education kids excel in Hands-On classes she is worried these types of classes will eventually be taken out of the school system classes such as band music welding woodworking are very beneficial in developing skills in which special education students can Excel out the Gateway Arch in St Louis Missouri was a great experience two of us conquered our faar of heights and we all strengthened our knowledge of the westward expansion while we rode our way to the top we observed welds on the inside of the arch along with the mechanics that took us in our egg to the top once we got to the top we were able to view outside the windows and not only see Missouri but also Illinois my favorite
part about this trip was pricing Temple grin and speak her story was very inspiring to me and her message is very powerful warm Street Ranch was our final destination on this amazing trip we learned all about the Clyde sales and how they grown and cared for from start to finish while we were there we toured the breeding room paddocks stalls wash bay and barer stations and the trailers used to haul them from place to place our tour guide talked to us about breeding training diet and handlers at warring Ranch there is no vet nor faer on the grounds however a vet from the University of Missouri travels to the ranch to take care of the horses as needed if there's a big problem of from Tennessee will travel to Missouri to take care of the
horse every 6 to8 weeks a theer will travel to the ranch each hitch has its own barrier the main job of Clyde sales is to haul the hitch at different events each C must be seemingly perfect and meet the requirements and specifications for an iconic company's hitch for me the most impactful thing I took out of this trip was that there are a million FFA members enrolled and for me FFA is just so important to me because of my family and the Agriculture and the average age of the farmer is 55 years old and or farming and agriculture it's a Dying World and no one takes accountability or like takes um that everyone takes granted Agriculture and just knowing that there are a million people that just have like even a slight of um interest
in agriculture is just so meaningful to me just I love agriculture so much in EP and just knowing that there's just a million people that um are interested in agriculture is just so powerful to me yeah um again we are so thankful and blessed to have amazing Board of Education members like you to allow us to go on experiences and opportunities like this in agriculture and are forever grateful we cannot wait to see what the future holds for us and what experiences we can go to next thank you guys so much pretty cool to hear how how eventful that trip was and how meaningful it was to you guys thank you okay item number 10 Kissa 2.0 okay I have a handout for you guys we had our school Improvement day last last week on
Monday we met in Hayes with ksde and we also met with two other schools Ellis and Victoria to go over the new Isa 2.0 School Improvement model so this is the document that we used for the biggest part of the so we have to create a key set action plan and we have 60 days from last Monday to create this as a district leadership team and to be able to submit it for feedback from ksde before we move forward with our action plan so this is one of our first um runs with this new accreditation model so I'm going to kind of run through it so hopefully I'm going to use some different terms but um if you look on the left side you have your fundamentals you have structured literacy standards alignment balanced assessment
and quality instruction so whenever we went through the protocol with KSD and the other schools they had a little um structured assignment if you will to kind of lead us in a certain direction okay we've been working all year already on this alignment part to try to align all the classes vertically horizontally not just in the schools but between the elementaries as well so the one that we spent a lot of time looking at is a district leadership team with standard alignment so I'm going to read through that it says we align lessons instruction and materials to Kansas standards and clearly identify what students must know and be able to do this includes interpersonal intrapersonal and cognitive skills in prek through 12 so what we had to do was narrow those four down to one
so whenever we work with ASD that day we looked at structured literacy we looked at standards alignments balanced assessment and quality instruction and we really kept coming back to that alignment piece between between the schools between our curriculum between our standards to look at moving forward so as a district leadership team we felt really confident and help me out guys please on this feel free to add um the standard standards alignment was the one fundamental that we needed to pick to move forward leave um the state of Kansas just changing the English language and uh Arts standards I think it's critical that we're taking a look at sure that our and our instruction are aligned now is getting ready to release theirs here in 2025 so we'll need to make sure those are aligned as
well so as we're looking at curriculum we want to make sure that we are you know aligning our standards and making sure we're teaching what we should be so again though these are our recommendations we still have to get teacher input and be our and we would like your guys' input on those four fundamentals on what you've seen since you've been on the board of education structured literacy standards alignment balanced assessment or quality instruction if there's one of those that you feel more strongly about we definitely want your input because again we've got to gain input from the community from our site councils and also our teachers and we'll be talking about that a little bit later for time built in to try to get our teachers together to discuss this because this is brand
new for them as well so um I think something else to kind of keep in mind too is just because we're not um maybe picking something in quality instruction doesn't mean that that's not going to be something that we're continuing to look at um we just feel like one of the things with Kissa that we've learned over the years is we want to be able to have strong data to support that we are making gains and so we feel like standards is somewhere we can focus on but we can also prove that we've focused on it and so like I said just because we're not picking quality instruction by all means does not mean that we're throwing that out the window it's just not what we're choosing maybe for our goal and quality instruction can
you can only have it if you know what you're supposed to be teaching so it kind of starts at the foundation of the standards and you have to have the curriculum to support that to build up off of that then New Quality instruction comes into play and we're already doing some of this with our curriculum getting our committees together for that and also our math curriculum uh the new math toolbox was just released was that last week I think that was last week that that was just released so um I want to give you guys a chance to look over those four fundamentals do you guys feel strongly One Direction or another direction that I can get some input from you guys I think in my time on the board I've heard multiple times that
things weren't the same across the building and so I think this is a really good forward step to get everybody on the same page moving towards the same goal so I think that's a great fit and to be clear with our district leadership team we do have two teachers from each building and then all the administrators on there so it's very well represented and I think it's important for the collaborative piece of it as well if we're all doing the same than a fifth grade teacher from Wilson can talk to a filth grade teacher at Hollywood and vice versa by grade laterals that gives that open communication balances us across the district which is something we haven't had for a long [Music] time so after the fundamental the next part is the structure so we
have to pick one fundamental and then we have to pick one to two structures KSD was really strong in advocating pick one don't go two or three pick one one to start off on because you can always add to it as your plan evolves okay so when we looked at the different structure we talked about resource allocation with a budget emphasis educator evaluation we talked about professional learning and the professional development of the district professional collaboration uh tiered system of support and then family community and Business Partnership so when we talk about those those six structures we could be working on all six but our focus is one so whenever we got together as a district leadership team the two that kind of stood out was resource allocation and professional collaboration once we got done
with our activity we kind of veered more to the collaboration piece because we're already collaborating and working together to form some of the curriculum to form some of the curriculum mapping and then also the collaboration that's got to happen between teachers in different buildings and also teachers in the same buildings when you go vertically as opposed to horizontal okay um when you talk about the tiered system of support what that is is we have to program a multi-tier system of support and it's the same thing it's everything that we do in our buildings to make sure that every student has equal access to an education and so whether they need support in reading or math or the combination of both whether that's an individual education plan a 504 whether it's just modified curriculum or assignments
testing whatever that is it's making sure that we have all of that in place and when we talked about adding those two together we feel like the collaboration piece and being able to collaborate with our different groups to help develop some of the cycles that we want for curriculum that the resource allocation needed to come after the collaboration piece so we knew you know which direction we wanted to go with standards and which direction we want to go with the um the curriculum that we have in the are currently or what new curriculum we're looking at find down the line so again the activities that we kind of did L us towards the standards alignment and the professional collaboration piece do you guys any feedback on any of the structures that you guys think could
maybe be a better fit for professional collab other than professional collaboration or anything to add on the collaboration piece one nice thing of about the Prof professional collaborations is it opens up professional learning communities where teachers work within and without and within and around grade levels so like right now I have my building set up so like K2 is meeting together 34 is meeting together five six meeting together and then we're meeting across and so that everyone is talking with one another so that they know they're seeing what's on one end of of the grade level and above you know so they get these convers ation going so it it's very beneficial to have those there and it's one thing that the state of Kansas is really encouraging us to have in our schools as
as professional learning communities so you'll hear that app from them plc's that's what that stands for professional learning communities any feedback on any of the structures at all do you guys feel strongly one way as opposed to another so then it leads us to the next part of our action plan that we have to create where we're going to have measures that we look for within the first year and then we're going to have a six-month Target on what that looks like and then a one-year Target on what that looks like as well this year is going to be mostly about picking developing your plan implementing your plan so you can kind of start that direction they do want us to start it this spring but then definitely next year we're starting to collect data
and have a plan in place moving forward again this is a threeyear is that right think three years it's a three it's a three-year plan that we're going to develop for for our district one it's a one-year plan but it's over the next unless they change and ADT it again okay until they change or you can keep adding okay okay and again this is new for the state of Kansas as well so there will be some tweaks and some turns and some Curves in this as we go and again every District in the state of Kansas is working on this Kissa 2.0 model and this will be something we refer back to because our teachers in our district this is brand new to them I don't think I don't know if any of our teachers
in our district this has been introduced to them at all I think they know that there's a new Kissa 2.0 model out but they don't have a lot of background on what this looks like and we have no feedback from the teachers yet so um we'll have a couple items coming up in the board meeting that we'll ask for some some some time coming up as well to be able to meet with the teachers to gain their feedback um and then also our site councils is um as we get moving on with this Kissa 2.0 month so we do have 60 days from last Monday and it's not 60 school days so it's just 60 days so our thanksgiving's in there we have Christmas in there that we have to get this submitted within 60
days and then believe they had about two weeks two weeks to get the information back to us on what we need to change to make sure we're meeting the accreditation model then we go back in and change it send it back in and then we get their feedback from them to go ahead and start implementing I have to say with 30 years in this business and the Pendulum going back and forth I hope this one sticks it seems to have the elements of qu yeah of a good quality quality education for Kansas so I'm really excited about this that I hope they can keep us going this direction meeting with Ellis and Victoria as well they have some different structures and fundamentals that they're starting off with so it'll be good when we come back
together as districts to kind of see what they're doing in their district with some of the other fundamentals and structures and what's working and then what's working in our district to kind of bring that back and then then have the opportunity to bring it back to their school as well so you said what other schools Victoria and Ellis yeah Victoria and Ellis they're the ones with our that are assigned to us for our Improvement days okay I just wanted to make sure you guys had a little bit of background on what that Improvement model looked like moving forward um you guys have any other questions or concerns once we meet with the teachers and get everything all the feedback ironed out we'll report back to you guys on on what our fundamental that we picked
was and what our structure was and then our plan moving forward okay all right okay item number 11 the V whole sales tax [Music] information so I did receive an email last week from Mr Perez and attached to this document is their sales taac proposal um and again this is just a proposal and this is you know they have some hoops to jump through with this de they still have to get through their um their bond issue and then the sales tax side of it as well it does have it broken down on how many kids we have in our district right now that considered Russell County students um if we went with this proposal if they did get their bond issue if they did pass it through their County um on what we could
expect back the one item Mr Perez asked was if we wanted to meet um again with three of their board members and three of our board members to discuss any part of this they would be open to that um so I just need some feedback from you guys as a consensus on whether we want to meet with them again or we want to wait until it gets a little bit closer um um to Wi their bond issue um comes to fruition I guess if if if they're fortunate enough for it to go that way um or kind of where you guys are at on on proposal wise for this okay okay so is it safe for me to tell them that we are um discussing the proposal right now but we are in a good
position we would be in favor of this consensus wise and again this isn't anything anybody again this is just a proposal is all it is if it comes through so if it does go through we would have to make a motion to accept their proposal if it did happen to come to fruition with their bond isue okay okay item number 12 is the in okay so this was with our Kisa um I have the information on there we would um like to request an inservice day on November 26th which is a Tuesday and it is the Tuesday before Thanksgiving our our custodial staff our technology staff they are already meeting with Mike dmle for their ASB bestus training that afternoon um it's either going to be at 1:00 or 2:00 so they're already going to
be out for a certain amount of time our custodial staff our technology staff for that um so we're requesting that we have that inservice day with your guys's approval on the 26th it does make it a really short week for the kids they would have a Monday would be school and then basically they're into Thanksgiving break uh but we're kind of up against it with 60 days with this and all the Thanksgiving days count and all the Christmas days count so when we're talking about 60 days we feel like they add up really really fast um so when we break that inservice day down we do want to spend a lot of time with our teachers going over this Kissa 2.0 model and getting their input because before we get to the bottom you know
of selecting that fundamental we need their input as well um on making sure they feel confident with that fundamental and also with that structure as well to move forward to create our plan then in the afternoon our district leadership team would get together to meet to go ahead and get that plan done our hope is that we can have that submitted before Thanksgiving break is our hope so then before Christmas break we can get the feedback from them and then maybe before Christmas break we already have our plan done is what our Our Hope would be um again it does make it for a really short week I did visit with Mr lri a little bit um about this about the inservice and he said a lot of these some of these these hours were
not scheduled in because they didn't know when our day was that we were going to meet with the other schools they knew they were going to have to meet with meet with um the teachers group the site counsil group but we didn't have our day scheduled for our school Improvement day um so our our request is is the 26th to be a district in service day without kids I know that does um present some some problems especially being one day of school that week that Monday though we do have um Middle School basketball games I believe in Sala okay um is there a Scholars poll meet on that Tuesday tues it is on Tuesday so we would still have a Scholars B meet that would be pulling that's usually in the afternoon that' be in
the afternoon so that wouldn't be pulling our our sponsor in the morning if that sponsor is one of our teachers um our other teachers in the afternoon we do still need time to meet with our seal group for curriculum our math group for curriculum and then we're moving ahead with our curriculum mapping for our individual grade levels and also our um our um high school middle school classroom paths as well [Music] dist second Motion in a second any further questions or comments and even though that's a insury they could still have like basketball practice yes be beneficial have Monday off too we visited about that in our our main um I guess hump with that is you know we do have basketball games scheduled that day and I know that doesn't affect everybody but you
know if if we have families trying to leave on Friday for an extended Thanksgiving break and then we have coaches upset because we don't have Scholars bow kids there because families are trying to leave early you just I don't know you just kind of balance that out Dalton on you know we did have that discussion on not having you know not having school on that Monday if we did that that would take us down to 8 days days I believe is what we would have padded in for the rest of the year on um um our hours for snow days or hiccups as well um you know on the other side of it if we do have people leave early and you know they have an extended Thanksgiving break they have it but we still
have the hours on Monday um I think we would have a difficult time getting kids here for a bing especially being away if it was home it might not be too bad there's already I mean that was the day third and fourth grade have Cosmosphere coming up and they have on that Monday and we're going to we're planning stem activities for the day for our kids so we're just planning fun activities for that and we do have the cosos you guys for in session on Monday yeah and then if the yeah if parents want to go and be gone I mean it's one day I if they haven't already missed 10 or 11 we keep kids in school I think we should we should keep them in school possible but I understand need to have
inservice day but our other complication with you know having time for the DT to meet is substitutes you know it takes everybody every building and the day that Monday when we went up oh my gosh we all had strugling this week I have two days I better not get a phone call we had the conversation of maybe just doing a half day but then again if we do it a half day we'd only be able to meet with the teachers we wouldn't be able to get the DT team together to formulate the plan and then if we do that after Thanksgiving break then we're going to have to have a lot of Subs in the building it's it's a balancing yeah no I completely understand this one day that's needed but I think one day
is probably be sufficient so there is a motion from Kayla in a second from Allison any other questions or comments so all those in favor say I I I any oppose same sign motion passes 60 item number 13 mitigation bids I would like your guys' authority to work with Mike Dow rmle to solicit some bids to mitigate the asbest ceiling tile here in the High School Middle School um you guys will read in our asbest MI ation plan it is rated as in good condition right now um but the ease of access to this tile really concerns me um with kids jumping down the hallway and it is Frable asbes so we don't want to get it out in the air or anything else like that um so so I'm asking for your guys's authority
to solicit some bids on what that would cost to mitigate all of it but also what options we would have to mitigate part of it at part- time or what that would look like for somebody to come in and do that because we're talking about a lot of tile and again it is in good condition so when you read our ASB bestus mitigation plan it's in good condition we don't have to do anything um but you know the ease of access does concern me some um so I'd like your guys's authority to be able to solicit work with Mike to solicit some bids um on what that would look like for next summer when that time rolls around if we do not have the funds to be able to we don't have to take action
on it but I just I just think that it would be a good idea to solicit some bids to see what that's going to cost Mike's estimate was 115,000 just to take it out that doesn't c replacement uh he did tell me he he padded that number pretty high just in case something came up um but he again would like to you know instead of going with his number be able to solicit a couple companies to come in and give us an estimate on that have we dealt with Mike before Mike's the one that did all this for us they work with us for all this yes yeah y and how many different companies do you think you would be able to get three I think we'd be able to get the the one out
of of Nebraska and then one out of wiah and then one out of I think it was TOA th those three we have an extended amount of time here that we can get that so I feel confident in looking at those and we're going to ask him not only give us what one Fell Swoop would cost to take it out but also if you were to come in and do this in sections what would it look like for you and how would you estimate that to be done that way I I can give you guys a lot more feedback and be a little clearer on what that'll look like if we have that information you know moving forward avability and Stu too yeah when I ask Mike last time what he estimated it just to
take the tile out of here um his estimation was anytime from two to three weeks just to take it out to be able to to you know mitigate it the proper way that you have to to meet EPA regulations so um but again depending on what kind of crew that is how many people they have coming in what their you know setup looks like it could be different from one place to another so yeah I'm just curious if they would be able to do like a little bit where you could get back into the gym or close off the gym where we could get to it from the outside right you know like that I know they use a gym and weight room any other questions and and again once once they come in if
our budget does not warrant that we do not have to accept any of so again it is rated as in good condition sorry the whole High School yes y well Kay I want to be I want to be very clear it's where the drop- down ceilings are in the high school so like the gymnasium don't have a drop- down ceiling the weight room don't have a drop down ceiling so anywhere it has like the drop down so not the whole High school but a good a good amount of square feet of it there more out other buildings those have there is yeah they uh um the art building the one where we have art there is some out there um the tile though that's out in the um shop um coach Robinson's room out there
um it does have it but that is a whole different it is not as best of ceiling tile you said the fiable kind I know the grade school has some fiable they that at the same time um well it's my understanding that it don't have they don't have any Frable ceiling tile right it was a wall or something yeah so so the part about that is most of of those things if we feel like there's a need for them to look at them they can but some of that stuff like the that's in our plans that's like the fiberglass insulation around couplers and things that's away from kids you know they don't have contact for any of that sort of thing but you know anything that kids could have contact with I I think is
something that we need to kind of look at doing princi okay yeah there there is a wall though that there is a wall in the locker room that they the tested does have some some um asbest um oh the tape that connects the drywall uh I can't think of the name of it but yeah that was tested in that you don't feel that it would need to replace like I don't feel like it would and I don't know that that would you know I don't know what that cost would in you know incur to do that but um I also don't know you how much they actually have kids in that locker room yeah so I [Music] to motion second from Chad any other questions or comments hearing none all those in favor say I
any oppose same sign motion passes 6 through item number 14 professional development plan okay last year we started working with Smoky Hills to develop our professional development plan they ended up getting kind of their outline back to us for their final draft revisions there's just a couple of red more uh red there's a couple of red wording changes that they um thought might be good for us to use um it is not anything we have to take action on right now it's something that we need to U read over those few changes on a couple of the pages that have to do with making sure that they have have a plan if a part of their professional development was revoked or not accepted for some reason um that they have we have something in place
that lets them have a way to kind of ref back to maybe getting that credit um that was the only recommendation that Smoky Hills made for us on our professional development plan revision um that's on there that's not a u action item at this point that is the only thing that we are all of our accreditation pieces that we don't have in place right now when meeting with um at our school Improvement team and Amber Miller the other day and that's something that she knew was in the works so I've been contacting her letting her know where we're at on that um once we do get it approved um and move through the board of education then we are going to have to look at making sure all the seats are filled because my understanding
when we came down last spring that some of the seats for that professional development committee had people on it that we not in the district anymore so we're really going to have to sit down and look and make sure that those are um once this is accepted that we have people in place that are in the district that have not moved on since so that's just for your guys's reading when you have a chance to look it over item number 15 Capital outlay District needs so um as we've kind of been talking about some of the issues at some of the different buildings and with the Kea 2.0 um and some of these things that we've been talking about at the different meetings um we've seen some bigger ticket items at each building and some
of these are going to need some um Direction Mr Murphy is going to need some direction prob sooner rather than later so we either need to kind of hash it out you know what what we want to prioritize or is it something we want to take the time to discuss now or something that may actually take you know a special meeting or work session to discuss in a little more detail because like um the AC units or even addressing the space or even the mitigation those type of things you know it's to get on someone's schedule that's probably going to be needing to happen within the next you know three or four months so he needs he's going to need to know what direction to take and where we're really going to want to focus
you got days that you would want to do a work session well really I wanted to get we wanted to get your guys's feedback is it something that you guys feel okay with putting on like a December board meeting understanding that it's going to it's going to be a it's going to take a while you know just for that topic I guess or is this something that you guys wanted to look at a couple couple days where we did have a board agenda that that's the only item on there and we kind of have a little work session looking at all the options and then kind of categorizing those of hey you know Mr Murphy I think the Board needs to look at we we're in agreement this needs to be option one this needs
to be option one a next this needs to be option one one b and moving down the line um I didn't you know whenever we talked we just didn't want to throw it in there knowing it was going to be a huge conversation and and um not having your guys's feedback on if you would like that to be like in the December board meeting or if you want to look at some days where that's on its own uh I mean I I rather have a little work session to go over everything I mean we could have it on the December board meeting but I'd like to be able to go over beforehand and at least discuss it a little bit okay so I don't know what works best for you guys because I know we
got a lot of activities with basketball games and concerts and that sort of thing coming up so is there a certain night of the week you guys prefer one over the other just make one go it just make one and go with it because the December meeting I just say is the Elementary concert so I told Mr Murphy that we could either have a meeting after the concert or start a little earlier so we get done so if you want to get it done by the time of concert then this would be something that you wouldn't really want to put on that agenda because it's going to take too long to discuss so a separate meeting would probably be best so the M Monday December 9th is is the next board meeting schedule and trying
to stay away from a Wednesday night um for religious purposes and church activities um you know we have do we want to try to do that before the December 9th meeting or do we want to try to just do it sometime in December so when we roll over to the first of the year we kind of have some things categorized I it depends if you're try on Dee well I think as long as we probably have it on the 1 of January meeting to kind of get some guidance on the direction we want to go I think we'll be in good shape um but looking at the first of December you know December 2nd um we have Middle School basketball Hoisington and then also um the Tuesday we have our high school middle school music
program Miss Murphy do you know what time that starts so Monday the second is the Basketball Jam okay so that's probably not what about the third the central plains high school music that one's at seven at seven well okay and I say she might be trying to do it the next week because um that next week is the r Russell basketball tournament so she her music didn't come in on time so she's begging for a couple more days so we might we might be doing the music program the next week so what what about Tuesday December 3rd for you guys what does your schedule look like that evening because I don't have anything on that except the high school music program and maybe if we said we'd start the board meeting at 5:30 and we
would make sure it was done by the time the music program started if it was that night Tuesday the is staring off like he's trying to look at his schedule only want to be here so December 3rd at 5:30 okay thank you guys so right now that's considered a special meeting so that will be the only thing on the agenda here um office here the cafeteria what that the library yeah we can do in the library okay we have a little more space with some desks good yeah in case they do have it just walk G down he said 530 s0 they don't use library to the school okay in the library okay okay thank you guys for that that was good 5:30 yep 5:30 I'll try to have some food then you can eat
while you're Mr President I moved that board going to Executive session pursuit to the Kansas open meeting act discuss non-elected Personnel for the topics of classified staff certified staff substitutes protect the privacy of the individuals to be discussed with Mr Murphy present and return to open session in this room we're going to need 15 um 10 probably get it done at 725 second motion by Jos second by Allison all those in favor say I I e e e okay we are back in Open Session I move to approve marah Wold as a substitute for the Wilson after school program I'll second motion by Allison is second by Josh all those in favor say I any oppos same sign the motion passes 60 I hope to approve the resignation of Nancy eer as a part-time par
at cpes second motion by is second by Josh all those in favor say I I any oppos same sign motion passes 60 Mr President I move that the board going an executive session to discuss confidential student information pursuit to the exception relating to actions adversely and favorably affecting a student under KO Ma and return to open session in this room at 10 uh 7:37 with superintendent Murphy to be inde attendant motion by Josh second second by Allison all those in favor say I passes e e e s superintendence report okay I'm not going to repeat some of what the principal said because they still s in my thunder but that's okay uh daycare update um at Wilson we're in process of looking at a playground area to provide some additional space for the two separate
areas um to meet the requirements to open another home care room to address that 12 person waiting list um that we have up there right now at Hol Rood we're awaiting the on-site inspection from the Fire Marshall um and then we kind of experim experimented a little bit with moving the fcon area we moved it to the North Side um we did get the okay from the owners um to be able to move it to the North side we do have that um in place place and moving forward with the fenced in area once we get that done our hopes is that we will be able to move forward and get the um initial documentation out to uh the people in the district and the communities that are going to need the daycare so we
can start the application process after Thanksgiving break uh Felicia then will come out fer our regional um daycare provider daycare Prov our regional um daycare inspector we're hoping that we can get her out at the first of December so we can be moving forward to be able to open those daycare rooms after Christmas break um so that's kind of where we're at daycare update as of right now uh we do have a Wilson Community meet and greet tomorrow um had Dr go up there and have coffee with some of the uh the the Wilson Comm Wilson community members a few times um so we're having that tomorrow 6: to 8 um at Wilson Senior Center thank you calea for setting that up for us um Miss Moore will also be there as to me to
meet and greet with the uh community members as the new principal did have Barton County Community College on there just pretty much um stole that one so I won't go over that one again still waiting a little information from great Ben on the availability to form a Barton um County Consortium for the federal Perkins Grant it's not looking very promising right now um we do have to have that documentation out December 1st as to what our um direction is for the state of Kansas as far as the Perkins fund um talk to the superintendent um in the other Barton County areas at Ellenwood and also at Hoisington it's my understanding that they're not going to be moving forward with the Perkins funds with all the the hoops and everything that's tied to them and the
unknown of how much it's going to cost them for those Grant Riders so uh once we get a little more information on that I'll I'll be updating you guys in our weekly notes on that so uh we did actually have a couple of grants that we filed for um that have to do with firewall and Technology services and Scott I'm going to let him talk to you guys a little bit about a couple of the grants that we filed for we were able to get so well there's three different ones the biggest one was uh being able to move our fund accounting the district fund County from the Standalone system that it is now with Harris to their cloud system and the reason we have not done it before is cost uh it it I
mean it's their it's the their system but yet they went all together with training and everything wasn't it like $199,000 expensive and uh there was this is part of the school library uh SL cgp G CP I don't know there's initials uh a national thing and I filled out for three of them the other one is for a uh improved uh updated firewall at Wilson the same firewall we have at the district office in the grade school and high school down here at the Sophos uh and that one was approved too and that one is about $6,000 some dollars and then the other one is for an education program which is based on the state contract with I think it's in infosec is the company where we will be able to through inservice and ongoing
stuff uh train our staff and from that our students about how to uh recognize fishing attacks ransomware uh all those different kinds of cyber security things and it's a whole program that's over a period of at least it's a year program to start and then you can just kind of do updates from there but there's all kinds of things different schools are doing I know uh some schools are having kind of a contest and they the the system sends out fishing emails uh to teachers once or twice a month and the teacher that identifies and catches the most of them gets prize at the end of the year uh you know different kind kinds of motivation things but my big thing is with anytime I talk to the teachers about this I said you know
we've got to be talking to the kids about this because they're growing up in this world and I don't want to see some kid have their identity stolen at 9 years old or 10 years old and the first time they go to buy a car or something their credit is ruined and you know it's just it's a fact of life and we are acting and I get the federal uh warning on practically a daily basis that uh and that's why we have Geo fencing on our firewalls down in the buildings that does not allow anything from Russia China North Korea India there's a whole list of companies or countries that are geographically blocked by our firewall several years ago Lucas and I put a device out over at the grace school for one week over
half the traffic was from Russia China and North Korea trying to get into our Network and Lucas and I about fell over and that's when we really started pushing all this stuff Scot to get the other two grants we have to do that Grant where we're um pushing out the inservice information to the teachers and the students correct yes and the way it worked out with these grants for maybe they just like me normally there was some kind of a matching amount from the from the district and the state's pay it so that was a real shock to me that's the first time they've ever G me anything for that are there technology classes that cover that kind of stuff here in school I mean do they have a class or I know in their
business class that that's probably a question for Mrs Murphy but in their business class with with um with I Believe Miss K's is the business teacher I know they cover some of that to what extent OA I don't I mean is that something that we need to probably look at you know as you're going through your curriculum and everything maybe incorporating more technology process into it well the Department of Education is trying to come up with something to integrate in but you know that and 65,000 other things that we you know that we want to integrate in and uh but then uh but those three grants went and then there's another one uh another couple I've applied for but I haven't heard anything back they're kind of a pilot program for cyber security through this
at the state level and uh nobody's heard anything thing back and these I mean I applied for these clear in March or something and hadn't heard a word and all of a sudden I get an email three emails you're you're approved okay you know I I'd kind of given up I mean I hadn't heard a word so that that was so it's 307,000 bucks alog together and we don't it doesn't cost us a penny so that was a that was a good day a thank you for doing all that stuff I didn't realize there was a grant writer percentage yep I no idea called one cold I me let's put it this way some of the grant writing for this consisted of like three sentences and apparently I wrote the right sentences and I didn't
use AI or anything thank you Scott uh so we did apply for another grant called the adopt Grant through Kate that helps us with tabul tablets and Chromebooks um we were granted 12 Elementary School tablets 12 Middle School Chromebooks and 12 High School Chromebooks to put in our rotation so um those will be here early spring I believe so um kind of excited about that being able to help on the technology side uh did give you the breakdown for the Chevy tracks incident with the damages that were incurred from hitting the deer um with the deductible deductible included you can see the apprais total um and then the amount that was paid to the district so kasb conference I know we visited a little bit about that already so I think we have that checked
off of our list so [Music] the other item I just wanted some feedback on from you guys is weekly board announcements too long I feel like those things are like three or four pages every week whatever you I feel like it's good information okay I haven't read one and been like well that was unnecessary sometimes I'm typing those during the week and I'm trying to update I'm like oh my gosh this is three and a half pages they're never going to read this so I just wanted to make sure if it's too long I Canin some of it down I can so if that changes I'll shoot you a text I appreciate through Page Six [Music] 17 next time can I get close notes just kid okay any board member reports okay take good notes
this weekend at your outbreak breakout sessions um open Agenda items so we did have the next month's board meeting on the night of the elementary school program any di suggested you know maybe moving it up um we want to we have in the past also like at holwood made sure the meeting was at Hol in the library then we could start take a break go the concert come back we've done that before two weeks split but I don't know how much one session to attend so I don't want to do that startingly starting early is [Music] what the first love it yeah I love she yeah I only got one what do you guys think of starting that meeting at 5: time it start 6:45 is what I have now do you want to still
have it here or would you like to have it at Hollywood then you'll already be there do they use some of that space over there to get ready and we use in the library Mrs oer was the one that suggested it so I'm assuming that we could probably be in the library on that move it to the Hollywood we move it over there that gives us the maximum possible time to meet then you can just go down the hall so December the 9th at 5:00 instead of 6 o' at the at the uh Elementary School library I'll make sure I get that out to everybody and on the web page and get that advertised so people okay do you guys mind if we have that one there that we maybe have on the agenda to
discuss maybe happen one of the board meetings that we'll send it sometime in the spring sure okay any other open Agenda items okay and for next month's agenda board negotiation representative final reading of the professional development plan maybe some Personnel we'll probably try to kind of keep that agenda fairly short so we can get through it anything else okay I would entertain a motion to a so motion by Alison second by Josh all those in favor say I I any oppose same sign motion passes
