Mhm. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Okay. May be seated. Okay, we had an executive session tonight from 5:00 to 6:10 to discuss personnel, collective bargaining, student specific issues, and a school safety update. Before we do the roll call, Susan's not here tonight, so we have to have a motion to appoint Ariel as our secretary for temporary board secretary. So, can I have a motion to appoint Second. Motion by Didi, seconded by Cindy. All those in favor? Aye. Opposed? Motion carries. Congratulations. >> [laughter] >> Okay. And I'm sorry. Do we have any individuals sign up for public comment? Sorry. I should have grabbed that one. I should Shut the

door. While we're waiting for that, just a reminder that all or a portion of the meeting may be live streamed, recorded, and posted on the district's YouTube channel for the purpose of public broadcast and according to board policy. The district disclaims any responsibility or liability for any defamatory or slander statements expressed by any member of the public. Any unauthorized recording or rebroadcasting of any video, audio, and or still image of this meeting is strictly forbidden without the written permission of the board or superintendent. No public comments. Okay, we will move on to the student board report. We have Elizabeth with us tonight. Um, I'll start with because I wasn't here last month. The variety show went really well, had a really good turnout. Um, I heard a lot of really happy [clears throat] students. I

think they had a really good experience, so that was awesome. Um, the first graduation practice is coming up next Saturday, so that's something to look forward to. Uh, field day is the 22nd. Uh, the senior trips are May 26th and 27th and we'll be going to Cook's Forest and then Pittsburgh. There's a junior high dance Saturday. Tomorrow we have a busy day. There's a bullying presentation by the Attorney General's office tomorrow morning at the high school. And then there's also an employment expo from 12:30 to 2:00 tomorrow at the high school. Uh, NHS just did their annual fashion show at Mulberry's tonight. Yesterday was the PAHS choir concert and then next Wednesday is the band concert. Busy. Busy, busy. Very awesome. Okay. Any questions for Elizabeth? Okay. Congratulations on all the DECA and things you've

been involved in. We didn't get to see you, I don't think since then. Sorry, I was We haven't got to see you since then, have we? Yeah. [laughter] Yeah, congratulations. That's awesome. Thank you. >> Great job. Okay, moving on to presentations. We have some construction students here. All right. While these lovely gentlemen are getting some things set up for you, um we are honored tonight to have Brady Snyder and Colton Boughey here to explain to you one of the projects that they have recently done in Mr. Steiger's class. So, I'm going to turn it over to the >> [cough] >> boys and let them explain their presentation and project to you. All right. So, my name is Colton Boughey and I'm a junior here at the high school and this is Brady Snyder. He's a

senior. And today we're going to show you what we built in Mr. Steiger's construction class. This previous >> [clears throat] >> This previous semester we've both taken it. Uh so, some of the different circuits we've done is a single pole switch to a light. We have receptacles, switch receptacles, GFCI outlets, and a three-way switch to a light. So, then this is what we Go to the wall one. First of all, we built this from this piece of wood out of the legs. Then so, this plug is meant to simulate like your breaker box or like the your meter on the outside of your house. This switch is meant to simulate a breaker. So, this like allows the power to go on and off. And then running from your breaker box to all your fixtures in

your house, your lights, your appliances, plugs, is most likely going to be 12-2 wire. And that's just a hot and a ground and neutral. And so, this is just a junction box. So, then running to here, this is your switch. So, like when you go switch on your light, that's what happens. And then it just switches on the light. If you had a two-way switch or yeah, two like two switches to control one light, they'd both be controlled and you don't have to use one and you they'd be interchangeable. So, then now we're going to show you >> So then you flip your breaker on, flip your switch on. It's a little bright, but it works. So then some tools that we used are Uh this yellow handled tool this is used to strip the

insulator of the wire wire so that way you're able to get into it and work with the wires. This is what When you strip the insulator this is what your wires will look like. You won't always have this extra red wire. This is what it would normally look like. You have your hot, your brass, and neutral. And then these are to use to strip the outside coating so that way you're able to do what you need needed to do. And then some things that will can this class will help that this later in life. Not only is it a good trade to go into, it pays very well, and it's always going to be here. Everyone's going to need it. But also it it it's going to save us money like if we need to

replace our receptacle in our house or change a light bulb which is pretty simple. Like we can do it and know the safety and know how to do it. And that's going to probably save us roughly $200 per receptacle. Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate it. Before you guys sit >> [applause] >> Mr. Maguire, you need to get a picture before they they move. >> Yes. Mr. Maguire. >> [laughter] >> That's the first. We don't want to be in their picture. And in this picture so much I move this That's there. I'm sorry. I know you guys don't want to No, we do not want to be in that position. So, I already know these things, so. >> [laughter] >> I was reading an article today about the trades. There's a tremendous >> Thank you,

Mr. Maguire. need for the trades with all these data centers and everything that's being built, so. Okay, thank you, guys. >> Thank you, guys. Uh next up, we have Mrs. Saxman and the Beyond the Borough Club. We're going to display uh what we created in our club, but if you wanted to have it on your phone a little bit closer to you, that's fine, too. So, there's a QR code if you want to scan it. This is two of our members. We had six members total. This is Bethany and Ashley. And Sawyer Bar- Bar- Bartholomew are part of our uh after-school group. And the task that we took on in our group um was that the kids decided that when you come to Punxsutawney, there's a lot of information for parents and grownups on some

of the fun things to do, but there's nothing for kids. So, we took the time to create a website that the kids determined was for by kids, for kids, and we're going to keep updating this each year. But, this website highlights some of our favorite things to do, places to go, places to eat, uh types of snacks and things like that. And then we made sure to give credit to our Chamber of Commerce and the Groundhog Club. So, if parents are coming to this website, they can visit those things, too. So, the kids were in charge of creating all of the banners that you see, and they also created um all of the reviews. And in the review, they did the research um for the different places. They found the phone numbers, the addresses, if

there's a website, or they have a Facebook site. And then when you click on the link to the website, it takes you right there, so anyone can just order directly from uh the website that way. And then also on the site, you'll see um the reviews that the kids have given so far. They highlighted the types of meals they serve, or treats they serve, and their favorite things to get, and recommendations. So, you'll see we have the different restaurants. They categorized them um by their priority of ice cream, pizza places, fast food, international, only in Punxsy, coffee and bakery, and food trucks. And so, this is our only in Punxsy restaurant review. So, we have things like Gimmicks, [clears throat] uh Lorney's, Rumors, and uh The Burrow. And then on the website, then the the

kids and parents can see what they recommend for the kids to get there. We also did some things to do. So, they highlighted their favorite uh shopping places. So, they said the things you can get at Walmart, uh Giant Eagle, dollar stores, Roseman's, Aldi. Uh the best part if you have the time to read their reviews is that the students' perspective on things. Uh for example, if you see our PAS, we have a PAS A2. We're working on the reviews, we don't have those finished quite yet. That takes them to our website. But one of the reviews that I was telling Mrs. Phillips is is that our chicken nuggets are fire. Definitely recommend >> [laughter] >> the lunch at the elementary school. And then they also made sure to highlight everything that they like about

Groundhog Day. Our disclaimer is though they're kids, they haven't been there too much. Um but they gave a link to the the Groundhog Day website. Their favorite thing when it comes to Groundhog Day is the 4th of July Festival. And so they gave reviews on some of their favorite rides and also their favorite trucks that come and some of the activities and games that they do. And they had asked for unfortunately Bethany's going to the high school next year, but the rest of the students want to expand this out and have more input from all the students in the elementary school so that more kids have an idea when they come to our town if they're moving to our district or if they're just visiting for the festival of Groundhog Day. I love this. Thank

you. Well done. Neat. Thank you. Great work, guys. That's awesome. What are the grades? Ones and six? Fifth we Bethany was our only uh sixth grader and the rest of the students were all in fifth grade. And you guys did all the the like on the computer made the graphics and all that stuff? Yeah. We did it through Canva and then we did a Google website. I did a lot of the stuff that they couldn't cuz we only moved we only did it after school, but we put a Google website together and they told me how they wanted to organize it and I organized and made all the graphics and reviews and everything. That's awesome. Yeah. Super. Very cool. Can we link it to our website? Do you mind? To the Chambers. Yes, we weren't

sure if we were able to cuz I don't know that all of our the chamber businesses are in it. We would love that. Okay, we'll do something. Okay, and we just said if you want us to come to present there, too, we would love to do that. >> Did you do a review of Laskas? OPEN THAT UP. JUST >> [laughter] >> I DO HAVE TO SAY WE DID DO A REVIEW OF LASKAS, but we had a very long discussion of that it is actually not called Olaskas. >> [laughter] >> Cuz the kids call it Olaskas and I said it's probably cuz your parents say do you want Olaskas pizza? >> [laughter] >> But it it says both names on there. It says Laskas and Olaskas. >> [laughter] >> Is this >> Beth had a valid

question. Is it linked to our school page or can it be or It isn't yet. We will. We wanted to everyone to kind of see it first before we had it live. It is we will link it to our school page and our our website is linked to it, too, the elementary website. >> Oh, so fun. So cool. Very cool. >> THANK YOU SO MUCH. >> [applause] >> OKAY. DON'T BELIEVE WE HAVE ANY UNFINISHED BUSINESS. Uh we will approve the minutes for the April 7th meeting on Tuesday. Um moving on to reports. The athletic report uh we have three resignations there from coaching positions. We have a request uh from Emily McMahon to complete her internship uh through the athletic department and we have a permission before uh swim team members to use the pool

during open swim for free of charge. Um DJ, you want to come up? Uh I don't know if anyone has any questions on those items, um but you're also going to talk about the bocce uh progress and the sportsman award. Yeah, and actually I got a third thing that just came today, so I want to show that to um First of all, um the sportsmanship award was really cool. Uh every year the athletic uh District 9 athletic committee has a banquet principles and athletic directors and we got the sportsmanship award for 2024-2025 school year. If you've been in the gym, there's two of them up there now that are big blue ones that are by the main scoreboard. There'll be a third one now. Um and that is really cool because that's not just the

the athletes or the coaches. That's the fans, the parents, that everybody comes and and the school saw that. Us and Coudersport were the two schools that got it for the last school year. So, that was that was really cool that Dr. Smelko and I got to uh get that award. So, that was We appreciate putting out there everybody that comes to our games and are well-behaved and all that cuz that all goes into it. So, we do appreciate that. Uh as far as the bocce, it's been coming along. Actually, there's Coach Leslie right there. So, uh he um he's been going out on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It's it has slowed down a little bit, but we've had some kids. I I've had some students coming in, "Hey, what's this about?" and so forth. So, I

think really in the fall it's going to, you know, or once school starts, um we're going to really get it rolling, but we got all the equipment. We actually had what, hour and a half training, Yeah, hour I mean, there's a lot to it. Um and uh the lady from uh State College came and she was very helpful and has gotten back to me a few times, but uh Coach Leslie, Phil, has done a tremendous job with that. And I think that's really going to be a a big thing once we get it going. I mean, I know the few times I've been there and I've had my son Colston playing and um with a couple of the athletes and they're good. Right, but I mean, they're better than us. I I'm not going to

lie. So, it's been it's been pretty fun. Um we're going to continue through through May here as much as we can and um really get it kicked off, you know, next school year, but it it's it's going to happen. The stuff's here and we're going to look for that. So, the last thing I want to bring up, this showed up this afternoon, not even on, but um we all know the NFL draft was in Pittsburgh not too long ago. Get a box, comes in the mail. I open it up and here from the NFL draft it says uh NFL draft Pittsburgh Punxsutawney Chucks Western PA football legacy and these two names are on it. Okay, well, before I check with Coach Nickle, I'm going to check because he would know. So, I uh Warren Heuy

um actually went and got drafted 1949 to the Eagles. I don't He never got to play. He was hurt. Sixth round. Sixth round. Thanks, coach. He went to Michigan State and was graduated from Punxsutawney and then also Frank Funair. 1940 and back in the day it was the Brooklyn Dodgers, not the baseball team, but the uh football team. In 1940 he was drafted I believe the 17th round back then, but I thought this was really cool. I'm going to pass this around just to see. This is in my office for now, but um I just thought it's it's actually authenticated from the NFL thing. I it was just really cool that it showed up. >> And did you know these TWO GUYS PERSONALLY? >> [laughter] >> HOLD ON. HOLD ON. IN 2010 when I was

a coach, we we we went undefeated and and I had a chance to get a hold of uh Mr. Heuy's wife and uh because I want to put some stuff up there about cuz I you know, uh being a sixth round draft choice he's he was one of our top players ever to come out of our school. He went to Michigan State. >> [snorts] >> She sent me this poster before his senior year. He was a four-year letterman and in uh his senior year he was an All-American. He was second team All-American. So, I'll pass that around. Uh she was nice enough to send this. This is uh 2000 spring of 2011 I had that. So, when he called, uh I uh certainly I knew that. Of course, I think Mr. Fenar is from Wallston

and he's one of our great athletes in all, you know, in all the different sports uh that that we've had here. But, I didn't know them, but [laughter] Yeah, I just I thought that was a really fitting thing to bring tonight just to show you guys like it's, you know, that we had two you know, alumni from Punxsutawney actually get drafted Well, I think it's very cool they sent it to you. Yeah, and then Phil was up We were talking Phil actually was talking to me. He's like, "Every school in Western PA they would send that to that anybody that got drafted from the school." So, [clears throat] some of those Western PA schools probably got two or three footballs with their names on it. But, I thought I mean that's that's the real deal.

I thought that was really cool and somehow hopefully we can get that displayed with some of these other things at some point. You know, there's a couple similar issues that I was going to bring up to the board at some point, but we're too busy at this point in the year. So, I'll use this as a segue later on when we're not so busy. If that's okay with everybody. We're kind of busy. But, yeah, so I thought this was pretty cool to bring up. So, I got some issues to bring up. Any other questions as far as far as the the swimming thing real quick. Coach Cain approached me about it and I talked to Susan and put it on here. I think, you know, there's a few of them they're already lifeguards there that

would be getting that opportunity, but you know, I'm all for it also. I think the board should look at I think it's a benefit. >> obviously for the purpose of uh being able to train throughout the year so that we can compete uh at the level that we want to compete which they did a great job, but uh uh it's a PIAA sport. We want to compete at the at the state level eventually and so that's what the purpose of that is. >> Yeah, and I and I talked to Frank also and you know, kind of started with that and went you know, on. So, I hope that that can follow through for those kids as well. Um uh um question on bocce. When is when is their competitive season? >> It is in the

winter. So, it's basically falls in the basketball season and so forth. So, it's like basically mid be like late November to through they actually their state tournament is the basketball state weekend. They actually compete in Hershey right the morning of the first or second day of basketball state playoffs. So, it's a uh Clarion went Clarion actually went there this year and finished sixth. Um talking to Sarah Newman is the the lady that's kind of helping us run things. We would be competing with I believe she said St. Mary's DuBois, West Branch, and us. That sounds like a Ridgway. Ridgway, I think. Yeah, that would be the five that we would have kind of our league that we would travel. We would have two to three home matches. Um and then travel the other schools, but

yeah, it's I really do think it's I I know the kids that have been coming they they really enjoy it. And like I said, Phil has done a great job with them. So, So, this beyond our athletic schedule like all of our other sports, so the public can come watch? >> Yeah, yeah, it's it'll be a it'll be sheer like we will definitely the first home we are going to make it a big deal for those kids. Awesome. It it's it's going to be we're going to make it a big deal and that's you know, it's it cuz I think that's the whole key. I I've even talked, you know, and just thinking in my head, you know, somehow we can have some type of assembly before to kind of get it help get it

introduced and so also, but um yeah, we definitely want to make those home matches, especially the first one a big deal. And hopefully we can make that happen. So, I am looking for officials for that. I already talked to Dr. K, so >> [laughter] >> So, it's a you take an hour test and then you're officially a bocce official. so >> [laughter] >> But there there are a lot of There Yeah, you get a free shirt, yeah. There's a lot of There are a lot of little rules that we were learning on it. It's just more than just kind of throwing the ball, so Um other than that, that's about all I got for today. Any other questions for D.J.? Thank you for your report. >> I got to head back to the vault, then.

Okay, thank you, brother. Appreciate you. Thank you. Okay, moving on to transportation, uh we will ask for approval for six items. Uh the first is a new bus stop in Reynoldsville. Second is a new van route to Clarion Partial. The third is for extended school year routes. Number four is Camp Kindergarten routes. Uh number five is a second seventh grade welcome day routes, and number six is the elementary summer school routes. Any questions on the transportation items? We do need to remove number two. That one is no longer necessary at this time. We'll remove number two for Tuesday. Any other questions on that? Okay, moving on to building and and maintenance. Uh we have one item here. It's a purchase order for three items. Um and the second thing we have uh discussion on the

bid replacement for the walkway in the stadium. Is that Carmen, do you want to address that, or Dr. K? Um the discussion is um um based largely on the fact that we did not have any bids for a second time on um for the um walkway replacement and the rubberized material. [snorts] Um and correct me if I'm wrong, Carmen, but we are are kind of at a um uh a timing standpoint here to um if we were to engage in this at this point any later to rebid it for a third time that we would we would not be getting it completed in a time when um it needs to be used over there for athletics and so forth. So, we just hold off on this year. That would be the recommendation that that we

have had in the office that we need to wait until next year. Okay. Any questions on that? Do we have a plan to move forward to hopefully get bids next year? Is it Is it Is it the the way that it was written or what's Do you know what the issue is? >> is it was such a small project. And most of the companies that do this they want the whole thing. They want to do a track, they want to do something bigger. Okay. So, we're We have a couple of different options that we're looking at Okay. and see what we can do. Okay. Thank you. I was at a place yesterday. I went to a conference and spoke to some companies that do this. So, we talked to them. They're They're reaching out to

me and we'll see where it goes. Okay. Thank you. Uh moving on to the cafeteria report with Mrs. Phillips. We have one item for approval and that's a purchase order with US Foods for an open purchase order for food. We have a couple discussion items. One is our fund balance and the second is for an outside food service management company. Lindsay. Heather and Lindsay. Good. How are you doing, Lindsay? Good. Um so, uh I wanted to talk a little bit about the cafeteria spend down plan. So, as you all know, we have a healthy cafeteria fund which has been a blessing. I mean, the past couple of years we've been able to do a lot because we've had the funds. Um so, that's great. So, we've been chipping away at that. However, we still have

a ways to go. We're only supposed to be keeping a 3 months 3 months worth of expenditures in our cafeteria fund. So, we're above and beyond that. And like I said, we've been chipping away at this, and we still have some some ways to go. Um so, with that being said, there's some things that are in the works. Um you know, we there's some things this year, some smaller items I'm finishing up on. We still have some equipment from the capital bid earlier in the uh year that I have to finish paying for, and uh I have TVs that have just arrived to put new menu boards at the elementary school. So, that's a small small thing, but you know, something we had in mind. Um moving into next year, we talked um one of

the bigger ticket items is maybe looking into some new food transit vehicles for our summer feeding program. Um so, those, you know, might cost some money there. And um like a new combi oven, maybe you know, whatever new equipment we might need, and um you know, those those are the big ticket items. There's some smaller things within our supplies. And then, um you know, there's been some changes to our CEP data. Um so, that is also something to consider when we're talking about our spend-down plan cuz um that will cause a reduction of revenue and things to to the cafeteria. So, we just need to keep that in mind as part of the spend-down [clears throat] for the cafeteria funds. Um but yeah, I mean, that's kind of where we're at. We've been chipping away

at it for years, and we'll just continue to do so, and I try to get it down to that level it needs to be at, so. Okay. I'll take part B there with um it just in support of Lindsey. So, um Susan was just at the um PASBO conference, and um there there's a component on there for um food directors, food service, and there are companies out there that um offer a lot of different support services, one of which is in support of food directors to provide um potentially some different menu items. Uh they can provide um advice on how to use our existing human resources, how to look at our equipment, and those types of things. So, we were, um, suggesting, and you could see the bullets on there, um, in support of Lindsay,

not in replacement of anything that we're doing, but specifically in support of, um, considering doing an RFP as part of that spend down plan to, um, see, uh, what services might be available to advise us on uh, cafeteria processes. So, I'm going to get your thoughts on that. Or if you're okay with proceeding with that, we can There's no contract here. It's just a authorization to proceed to explore, I guess, is what we're looking for. Lindsay. Yes. Have Did we start having a salad bar lunch every day for lunch? Um, no. Due to due to the staffing issues at the high school, we had shut the salad bar and the other bar down, um, back in like February. However, with the recommendation that came during one of the board meetings back then, um, about the

students who are, you know, maybe have different dietary, uh, you know, recommendations or needs, uh, we do the grab and go salads, and we do the yogurt parfaits, um, in our grab and go uh, cooler instead of the salad bar. For now, it's temporary until, you know, we can get the staffing issue resolved. Okay. Do we know all our students still get free and reduced breakfast and lunch next year? Yes. Okay. Thank you. I've heard different times about running out of food from students. Is that Maybe it's just, uh, you know, a lot of people want that specific item, and at the end of the day it runs out, or is this a Yeah, the high school, um, specifically, we had some some I would say, like um there were some transition again really really

stemming from the short staffing issue, you know, um we've had to move people around from different jobs into different jobs that they're used to doing. Um so, I will say there was like a period of time that was, you know, a little bit difficult. People were kind of learning as they go and um also with the menu changes that I had implemented, we had to figure out the forecast of the numbers, you know, when we went down from offering two main entrees at the high school specifically to one, um you know, it's hard to forecast those numbers, you know, because we were basing it off of two entrees before, now it's on one. Um so, we might have predicted a little too low and maybe we need to go up and then we just continued

to adjust from there. And I will say the staff has made leaps and bounds. Um like I said, there was a point in time that was very difficult and uh they kind of got through that and things seem to be better now. Um I'm happy with the staff and where we're at with that. So, hopefully we've resolved that issue. Since we have a surplus of food money, could we maybe think for next school year to do a soup and salad bar for the kids extra and then a hot buffet for breakfast? Um so, my plan for next year is to um try our hardest to get back to normal. Um hopefully, you know, we have some people off um not necessarily open positions, but off for reasons, you know, personal reasons. Um and so, hopefully

next year we get some of those people back. We'll be kind of at the high school specifically better, you know, in a better position and I'd like to kind of get back to normal. Um but again, a lot of our issues are stemming from the staffing problem. I mean, so, that's that's where the menu changes have come from and again, it's all temporary until we can get back to nor- normal. One other question about this fund balance or excess of fund balance. Can any of this be transferred to Jeff Tech being that they're an affiliate school or does it have to stay here? It has to stay here and it all has to flow through the cafeteria fund. We can't Okay. >> move it anywhere really. So. Okay. Yeah. Thank you. Anything else for Lindsay?

Okay. Thank you, ma'am. >> Thank you. Thank you. Thanks. Moving on to federal programs, we have two items for approval. One is a purchase order for a safety grant. This is all done through Co-Stars and the second item is for kindergarten supplies from Amazon. We'll have Dr. Gaston if she wants to update on add anything on that and then she's going to give us some update on the kindergarten intervention plan. Um so the grant for the safety supplies is for the PCCD grant money. Um we've been talking about the layered process. Uh and the second the Amazon purchase is part of the supplies um connected to our kindergarten intervention efforts. Uh we started in the fall looking at some concerns um with the kindergarten team, Mr. Gill, Mrs. Richardson, Mr. Donald and I and a

team from the IU. Um that process has definitely taken a little more time than I think we thought it would. Um but the time has been well spent. So there's been incremental meetings with the IU team um once they talked with us and we laid out what we were trying to accomplish. Uh then they've been working with the kindergarten team throughout this time. Uh last month near the beginning of the month they had their final meeting on our last flex day. I stopped in to check with them on how it was going. So, this has been definitely more of a coordination effort to make sure that they had the time and the resources to sit down and look at at how they wanted to attack some of their concerns. In that time, they developed a

plan on how to address some of the executive functioning issues that were brought up um in a previous meeting, I believe in in June of last year. They talked about scheduling, interventions, and what they needed to make that all work. I'm not going to speak to those details for you because they're going to come and present their work to you. It's a uh it's a significant body of work, and I couldn't be more proud of what they accomplished. Um and that the proposal that they have of how that's going to work. Uh they definitely deserve this time in the spotlight to share those details with you. Um it's tremendous. That's awesome. I'm excited about the whole the whole thing. We are, too. Um I think that uh you'll be very pleased with with their work.

I know I am very very proud of them. Good. What is a panic bar? That's a great question. Carmen, you're back there somewhere. He can speak to the uh panic bar. What exactly is that? A panic bar? Yes, part of the PCCD grant. >> Part of the of the door that you push to exit. It's like a crash bar, right? Yeah. Okay. Thank you. Expensive bar. For a lot of doors. Um okay, so moving on to the super Any other questions for Dr. Gaston? Okay, moving on to the superintendent report. We have 10 items here. I'll let you just run with these. Sure, conferences and field trips, number two and three and four um are agreements uh to uh as we plan into next year for potential, um, placements for children that may need them

as they align with their IEPs and IEP teams. Um, number two and three, uh, needed to have an adjustment to their agreements. I'm going to leave them on there as a placeholder so that those can get adjusted. The only thing that was incorrect were the dates on it. Um, other than that, they're consistent with what we've, uh, generally had in the past. Um, if those don't get to us in time, we'll have to make an adjustment on Tuesday. >> new facilities? River Rock is. Merakey is Kate is not, correct? >> It's new. We have facilities >> Oh. Okay. Where are they located? Pardon? Indiana. Okay. Thank you. Um, agreement with, uh, Department of, uh, Human Services for access and access billing. Adelphi, uh, is, uh, another one of our agreements for next year as well.

Um, awarding an RFP for, uh, ESY speech and language services. That is before you. That was just opened today. Um, there were two respondents. You can see the rates that are in there. And, uh, uh, Kate and I recommend going with the first ones, uh, Soliant, uh, as they were the one only, uh, one to indicate that they could at least attempt to get in-person speech and language support for someone. Or, uh, extended school year round. Um, and then, uh, number eight, awarding the, uh, the bid and approving the purchase for, uh, Zero Eyes. Similarly, number nine, purchase order for metal detectors. And our, um, number 10, the PSBA proposal for services for the 2026-2027 school [clears throat] year goes to all access, uh, package. Just a quick review on that. Um, we have used

that a a this this past year. I We know we had some discussion with that last um, last school year, perhaps prior to our arrival. Um They have available to us to continue to use any board trainings that we wish to use. We did do one of those in an evening. Those are still available. There's still a menu to pick from. Um they have their policy maintenance and policy portal. Um annual updates and their administrative regulation page as well. So we have updated at least 24 policies this year. We have a number of others that will be on the June agenda. So um we have used it quite a bit. I think that um expenditure is well worth it to be able to accomplish what we need to. I'm glad we're finally getting our money's

worth out of that amount. I don't know how much we did before, but you guys have been using it a lot. Correct. Yeah. Okay. Um onto discussion items. We had two here. Use of technology and Leader in Me. So I'll I'll start with the use of technology one. This is one that I think a lot of folks wanted to uh talk about tonight um as well as um this has been an an ongoing discussion item. Use of screen time and and so forth. Um I'll I'll share our plan moving forward and then we can kind of open it to to your discussion. Um this is a a really big deal. We want to be a you know, a Blue Ribbon school. We want to be uh use our resources wisely and make sure that we're

using our resources for the right purposes and and my recommendation to address this would be to have a similar procedure that we used through the fall and into winter when we had a comprehensive [snorts] plan team to talk about our goals, to talk about our current usage um and do this for technology to have a comprehensive plan for our technology use. So we can have a stakeholder group build that out, and make sure that we we hear from all of those who are using our technology to make sure that we don't misstep. And and that we can um address the concerns at the same time. So, with that said, uh questions or thoughts on When would this stakeholder group and conversations take place? I mean, like I think the intent was at least my impression

was to >> [sighs] >> whatever is going to happen will make happen for the beginning of next school year. Yes. So that would We're we're getting some dates together to like as early as this month. You'll receive an email shortly. Okay. >> On the dates. Just we had the general discussion first before launching it. And we'll have teachers, community members, parents, board members. Yes. Yeah, so I know there's been a lot of discussion about the use of technology. I know several of our board members have been uh very outspoken on on some of these and concerns. I think there are some trends and some data that are starting to show um you know, to give us some somewhere we may head on this. So, I encourage if this is something you're passionate about or it's

important to you to be involved in this uh focus group that that we're going to have. So. Any questions for Dr. Kay on this? Well, um I I think um our comprehensive plan is as Doug said, it it took us a while to get through all of those stakeholder meetings. I think that we were initially planning for at least three. Um there's no report necessary that's due anywhere. This is just something that I think it would be wise to do internally. Um and we can roll things out in stages as we make determinations and things. So, if you know, K through 2 for example was a an immediate initial concern, you know, we can we can uh some determinations, make some recommendations before we map out the the entire thing and then, you know, we'll

see where it takes us as we as we plan forward. Um, the second one, the second point on there was Leader in Me and I'll I'll share part of this and then Dr. Gaston wants to jump in. So, um, some of the things that we're working through in both buildings is both scheduling, use of personnel, um, aligning that with our comprehensive plan that we that that we built and and so, um, one of the things that we're looking at is allocation of time towards core classes, math, reading, science, social studies, and ensuring that we we have that and we also have the MTSS process and and so on and so forth built in there. Um, we're also looking at the amount of PD time that we have available, flex days, and some of the other

goals that we had and how things are lining up. Um, we had to make we need to make some choices about how we're going to allocate our time and again, one of the processes that I think is important, is being collaborative and and intentional in our design and and something that Dr. Gaston's been um uh, is building out our um, department chairs and head teachers so that we have input at each grade level in terms of what our needs are and how we're using our time, instructional time, and and how things will fit or or they might not fit. And so, Leader in Me is one of those items that has a lot of time dedicated to it and we have to look at how we can reallocate that if if that's the decision that

we need to make. Is there anything else to add? >> No, the second part that I would add is simply that we fund that through federal programs and whenever you complete federal programs application you're allotting a specific amount of money to a specific item and then you're justifying that rationale and when you do that you have to commit quarterly reports on how that is meeting the goal and sometimes adjustments need to be made because of the reporting that's required. So that's that's an additional piece to that problem and leading that discussion. I would argue for Leader in Me particularly in the elementary school. That's time that's better used to teach our kids reading and reading comprehension which we all know is where we are struggling as well as the rest of the nation. So I

think it's better time used. As far as the high school is concerned I talked with some teachers last year about leadership and I think that um you could create that we could create a curriculum that is no kidding a leadership curriculum that could be not necessarily required but uh a uh help me out. elective >> Elective, yes. That could be an elective or something like that. I think leadership is extraordinarily important for our kids to learn. Um and I cannot overemphasize that enough. I'm not convinced that this does it for us. Um and I think if you again if we created a curriculum and there's a whole lot of stuff out there to use to do that we could actually have a focused leadership curriculum as a you know would better serve our students. That's

my view on it. I think it's time for this curriculum to go. I agree. Mhm. So our contract is up with the Leader in Me program at the end of this year. So, the recommendation is going forward for next year just not renew that contract. Find, you know, other ways whether it's interwoven in our curriculum or a separate, you know, class or club or something to achieve our leadership goals for our students. Any other questions on this? Okay. All right. Moving on to building principal reports. We have Mr. Gill here. We have, let's see, five items here. Summer school approval for summer school is item number one. Item number two is the summer school staff. Item number three is kindergarten camp which will be held August 4th to 6th and 11th, 12th, 13th. Item number

four is the approval of hiring the staff for the kindergarten and number five is to accept a donation of a 3D printer from the IU for a STEAM class. So, we have Mr. Gill, you're going to give us an update on the upcycling. Yes. Um First of all, any questions on those others? Thank you. Upcycling, so, you know, like Mrs. Sackmann had a club. Um and they did a fantastic job and they're they're digital. Upcycling was done by Mrs. Gill and Wyatt. You know, passing these around. This this is just an example of using the discarded books. Oh, yeah. I saw that. Creating that. Kids work. Kids using their hands. Talking about shapes. And, you know, I appreciate the fact that we're allowed to do those clubs because it's just like in high school athletics,

sometimes brings in The and the bring kids in. These clubs do too. Makes them want to come to school. Uh so it's important for us to to have those things. I just wanted to give you an example of the work that our students did. I was amazed. Yeah, if I can tell you at that grade level, I would not have been able to do that whatsoever. [laughter] I'd have been ripped apart. Um but I'm very proud of our office staff for doing that. Now, I'm proud of all of our uh adults that took our clubs and took my hand to afford an opportunity for our our students. And I wanted to thank you for allowing us to do that. If I Can I take a second here? Um I I you know Lindsay and Carmen,

we've had some things we do Everybody's short-staffed. Things go on. The work that they do in our buildings is is unbelievable. And I have to get you Carmen, but but Lindsay's been short-staffed. The things that she's still produced the thing, the food, the quality, getting it out to the kids in a timely fashion. Thank you. And I appreciate the work you and your people do. Carmen, the same for you and your people because we've had not only some snow, but some things happened on the roof that he's taken care of in times where we had other things going on in the building and we've we've made them work. Um but that's working together and that's what we're doing. Um I see more and more of that every day around here and I appreciate that and

that comes from the top down. Leadership in general. So That's all for me unless you have any questions. They they make all these out of books that you would otherwise be disposing of, discarding of. Yeah, I I love these clubs. I I love this idea. I'm big on it. I think it provides enrichment. I think it provides uh, exploration for these students. I think it provides social interactions. I think there are great benefits to it. So, I appreciate all the work that you and the staff do to to make sure it's all done. >> Is Is there a club Is there a club for like leadership? I mean, that you could start a leadership >> We can, you know, they put proposals in every year and that that could definitely be one. Since we're getting

Since we're disposing Again, I'm not disposing Since we're not going to continue The Leader in Me, um, it would be a great to, you know, just open it up to, you know, these kids that really want to move forward into that and do a club that maybe that they can they can, uh, participate in. I agree 100% with you. I can tell you not only that aspect, but, you know, we're in the business of developing young adult young kids in my building, you know, young adults in theirs. And I don't think by any shape way shape form of talk or I hope I can talk to you, Dr. Small Group, but, you know, we're not just throwing everything away. Things just don't go away because we're not doing that. Um, we've had many discussions about

how we keep some of those, um, leadership things and and and things we can teach our kids and help them develop in those leadership skills. Um, so it's those types of things are what we do. Yeah. And we're going to continue to do those. Yeah, particularly in your building I said this before. I mean, I trust our teachers in there to teach really what The Leader in Me taught our kids, correctly if I'm wrong, if I'm speaking out of turn. From what I've seen in the presentations I've seen from when they all came from North Carolina and all that stuff you last year. Um, really what they're teaching our elementary school kids is how to be good citizens, right? Yeah, just good leaders. Good good Yes. >> And it seems to me that your teachers

do a whole lot of that in the classrooms on a day-to-day basis as it is. I would agree with Teaching them how to be good citizens and treat each other kindly and things like that. So, yeah, I think just reinforces the fact that I don't think we need this. I think we have leaders in our school teaching leadership already. If you if the students want to add a club to that or something like that, I think that would be awesome. I think it'd be a great idea, and I'm sure that we have leaders in there that would be happy to do it, as well. When we when we get to the the beginning of next year, we start thinking about clubs, we'll make sure that that's mentioned. Yeah. Thank you very much. I appreciate you.

Thanks. Thank you. Okay, moving on to the high school report. Um we have uh well, a lot of items here. I just said I am not going to be that fast. I'm very aware. Do you want to go through them, or you want me to stop you? >> If you want to, then I can touch on different things. >> interrupt me. Uh the first one is we have donations um for the DECA Club um for from monetary donations from Lindsey Fire Company, uh the FOP Eagles, and Kengersky Insurance Agency. We also have a Class of 2026 senior account donation uh from Steve Weaver. Um we have uh stipends for a post-graduation party. Two two items there. We have uh updates to the high school curriculum guide. Would you like me to pause there, and you

want >> If you want to keep going, then I I'll just kind of do all the things that I >> That's item number three. Item number four is uh seventh grade welcome day for Tuesday August 18th from 8:30 to 12. Um item number five is a a top hire up to 11 individuals to work on that seventh grade welcome day. Item number six is for the high school summer staff. Item number seven is for the summer instrumental program and stipends. Item number eight is for a credit recovery classes approval through Kiski School District. Item number eight or item number nine is for field trip volunteer chaperones. Um item number 10 is the purchase of the band uniforms. Um Item number 11 is for two purchase orders that are funded through the Weber grant. And item

number 12 is the disposal or auction or donation of kitchen equipment. Fill in the blanks. It is May at the high school. We have a lot a lot of things happening as that that had mentioned at the beginning of at the board meeting. It's just we're we're less than a month away from graduation and we just have a lot of a lot of things happening at the high school. We will be asking for approval for those summer school classes. I think that's where I'll start first. We have some new classes that we've added to our summer school list this year. In the past we've typically done behind the wheel, successful living and world history. We've had some teachers offer to provide some different classes this year which I thought was really great. Miss Snyder would

like to do a child development class. Mr. Martini would like to do a ninth grade health class. And Dr. Wesley, which I know that she left but so that you guys all know, Cara Wesley earned her doctorate this past month as well. So Dr. Wesley is offering a career recovery class for our seventh and eighth grade students in ELA. The goal and the hope is that we will be opening up some space for kiddos to take additional electives and additional classes within their regular school day in in the building. And that kind of leads that into an update for you on not only the schedule but also the curriculum guide. So the paper that I just gave you is just a few small updates to the curriculum guide. I did not print the whole thing

out for you. Again, I know that you guys look at looked at that a couple months ago go in February. but in the process of working on the master schedule for next year, Dr. Gaston and I have had a number of conversations about what we want that master schedule to look like and how we would like the classes to be able to flow so that the kids can maximize their time that they're with us um during the day. Something that we realized was that we needed to consider moving biology from being offered in ninth grade and 11th grade to being moved just to ninth grade. So, as it stands right now, students coming into ninth grade from eighth grade either take a what is now an academic biology class, which will be changing to college

prep biology class, or they can take physical science with Mr. Montgomery. My recommendation is to move all ninth grade students to biology for their ninth grade year. By doing that, all of the students will have a credit and a half with a lab, and they will have an opportunity then because that is what we call a trigger course. It's a course that is required for them to take for their Keystone exams. It will give them additional time to take that test if they do not receive proficiency their first time and retest in the future so that they can meet their graduation pathways. That is the first pathway for graduation is to receive either proficient or advanced by your Keystone exams or receive a composite score. In order to receive that composite score, in order to

be able to receive proficient or advanced, some students need to take the test more than once, and this would provide them with the opportunity to do that. Um if a student takes that in 11th grade, that limits some of their opportunities to retake and/or receive. We're also able to offer Algebra 1 as a credit and a half with a lab. So, in ninth grade, a student could have a biology class, a biology lab, and if they are taking Algebra 1 in ninth grade, a credit and a half of biology or of I'm sorry, Algebra 1 as well. And the way that works in the schedule has has turned out very nicely, I I can tell you in terms of scheduling update, the master schedule is almost done for this upcoming school year. Which is a

few months ahead of where we were last year. Pretty monumental, yes. I'm very very excited about it. There are little things that are still being adjusted and being added. Um lunch duties and study halls and things like that, but the bulk of the classes, the bulk of what the teacher schedules will look like is in it's on the board in my office. Um and that has been shared out with all of our department heads and as teachers are coming in for their end of the year meetings and things like that, we've been looking at their schedules, making some adjustments again here and there based on um recommendations from from the staff. That was without a doubt a very It was a collaborative effort between the guidance department and the department heads and teachers just stopping

in. It's it's been it's been wonderful. The changes moving biology to ninth grade and instead of having it in ninth and 11th grade also was a collaborative discussion with our science department. Um being able to make Algebra 1 a credit and a half for all students also was a collaborative effort with the math with the math department, so. Um are there any questions I guess about that first? Yes, ma'am. My only question is I'm noticing in the honors AP track, there's no option to take a physics class. So, for next year, there will not be any honors or AP other than AP bio and AP chem. Okay. Um and the AP classes we already have, we will not add any additional AP courses or honors courses. My only Sorry, go ahead. That's okay. The only

honors class available for the 2026-2027 school year is honors algebra one for eighth grade students. My only concern with that is if you're on an honors AP track, you're probably intending to go to college. So, if we have like someone interested in like a pre-engineering program, it's usually very physics based, so that kind of removes that option. And that's a conversation, um Mrs. Laney has brought to us as well. The The goal of next school year is to work with the departments and build potentially build that honors class. Um it's not listed here, but to build possibly an honors class for physics as well. Right now, physics is considered an academic physics class, and that's that's all we have. So, we would need to just add some We would need to take some time to

build that what that course and that curriculum would look like for an honors level. Would there be an um online option? For >> For AP physics. There's honors physics. Like Yeah. Yeah. Not for this upcoming year. >> Okay. Yeah. This upcoming year, our only AP classes are the AP classes we've always had. Um that would be AP lit, AP calc, bio, chem, and next year because of the rotation we do in social studies, it'll be AP gov. Would it be extremely difficult to convert the academic class like an honors class? Wouldn't they be very similar? It could be. Yeah. It could be. And that's where again, all of the departments next year will be working to take their classes to an honors level as well as an uh college prep and a career prep. Miss

May, may I offer a a a different way to look at it? Yeah. So, we have not had um an honors pathway. So, right now we have we have two choices. We have an academic and a standard track. So, what we're doing is adding a third layer there that currently doesn't exist. So, when we're looking at that academic program, we're looking at taking that one more level beyond. Part of those things are making sure that we have staff in place who can teach that. Um that's that's the first little piece that we have to take care of. The second piece of that is selecting resources and developing the curriculum and the assessments and making sure that all of those pieces exist before we schedule a student and then aren't able to deliver that. So, as

much as I want that for the same reasons that you want that for everyone who's coming after you, that's a really big process that has to be replicated for English, for social studies, for sciences, for all of those pieces. So, that's why we're going to take next year to work and develop that out so that we don't have to do a whole lot of repair and to make sure that we get it right because you're right. For our students who want to go above and beyond what their current experiences, they need to make sure that they're getting everything that they need. So, there's intent there to add the class. >> Absolutely. If If I So, assuming I'm like a ninth grade student next year and I'm coming into this track, do I have the option

to take college prep physics? Are you able to switch tracks? If I know that I'll need a physics class at some point, do I have the option to take one of the offered classes already? As a ninth grader? Well, uh 11th grader. If I'm an 11th grader and I have an extra spot in my schedule, do I have the option to take like AP Chem and college prep physics just so that I have that basis. >> yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. And that's part of what we've been working on and kind of clarifying. And I know that there had been some questions at the beginning of the year. Um it is We had talked before about like where that band and chorus classes are versus where the Spanish four, Spanish three, those those upper level courses within

our electives uh conflicting sometimes with our upper level academic courses. We have strategically placed all of the classes next year so that we don't have as much of We don't have that overlap. The only two AP courses next year being offered at the same time during the same periods are AP Chem and AP Bio. And that is because those classes are not taken together traditionally. A student might have a AP Chem or AP Bio, like Beth said, and then a college prep physics. But two AP science classes in the same year would be is not is not recommended or or highly um likely for for students to take. So, everything else though has been has been placed into the schedule um keeping in mind some of those challenges and some of those frustrations we experienced

moving from a block to a tradi- back to a traditional schedule. Um keeping dual enrollment in mind so that students can still have that opportunity and not miss an opportunity to take some of those other classes because it's only offered here, but they have dual enrollment classes at that time, too. Switching gears back to biology. Yes. I'm a little, you know, I kind of concerned about um putting, you know, putting a tested subject in ninth ninth grade. I mean, biology, uh you get, you know, passing the Keystone exam. A year of development or 2 years of development for a student means a lot. So, if we would do this, I would say let's monitor and make sure that you know, we're not losing we're not having students who might be able to pass later on

if we shove everybody into biology in ninth grade and then they got to take the exam in ninth grade. Uh we are uh you know, I think some students will do better when they're older. That's you know, that's the trade-off. So, I'm a little concerned about that, but I you know, this what we're doing, we'll do it and monitor it because I mean the more time students have to develop uh you know, the more likely they're going to do well on these exams in my opinion. So, I'm a little you know, I'm not big on shoving everybody in ninth grade into biology and then >> [snorts] >> when they're not ready to take that exam just because of their Everyone develops at a different rate. Absolutely. That's definitely something that we want to monitor and

keep an eye on. Um I did reach out. We have a group within the IU our principal all the principals in the IU are together in a It's kind of like a group chat, but it's an email. Um and trying to find out too where where other schools have that biology class as well so that it's appropriately placed for us as well. And typically between ninth and 10th grade there's a mix between you know, the the other districts within or the other schools within the IU. Um our biggest thing is making sure too though that they have that opportunity to retest for for their graduation pathway so they're not forced into a different pathway because they didn't have enough time to be able to take that class. Yeah, there's a lot of different ways to

do it, but I would say put it off as long as you can. Uh if we're going to try it, try it. As far as chat room with principals, maybe break into the biology teacher chat room once a Absolutely. Lastly. Okay. Uh I was thinking do we have biology in eighth grade when I was in school? >> No, you have Mr. Means. >> Means. Mr. Physical I thought that was seventh grade. Seventh grade life science, eighth grade and earth science. Ninth grade I was just thinking 10th grade we had biology but you might not have. Well, I was at the bottom of the totem pole there. I thought we had a uh some >> [clears throat] >> He was general ed, he didn't have to >> [laughter] >> Uh regardless, that is good feedback from

Alan and Elizabeth. So, I appreciate your comments on that. And you want to run for school board? Yes. Nice. >> [laughter] >> Okay. The the last thing I just wanted to mention um I know that we've been putting a lot of different things on Facebook and and highlighting, you know, a number of different activities. Um DJ highlights our our student athletes very well. We have a lot of students breaking records this year. Mhm. Track and field they're doing very very well. Um another day is setting some records as well. Baseball, our softball girls are are doing phenomenal. Um in addition to that we have a lot of things happening with our our music department and Mr. Cain and Mr. Cessna recently went to the NATO parade of nations and not only did our band win

gold medal but our percussion got best overall percussion. Um they were very excited. This is a very big accomplishment. It was a very large parade. It was a big deal. So, we're very proud of them for that. Um we had the chorus concert last night and um that please correct me if I'm wrong but we are performing the national anthem next week at a curve game. Oh, yeah. Yes, on Friday. Yes, and um so so a lot of a lot of great things happening and then of course like I said, we are in that home stretch of of graduation. We have a lot of things happening. Um we invite anybody that would like to come to class night on the 26th. Scholarships, awards, all of those things will be happening during that, and I think

that's it. Anybody have any I also understand Punxsutawney was well represented at Senator Pittman's Student Government Day, so >> Yes. Glad that everything went well for that. Yes. That Like I said, the high school is very busy. Um as you guys see on like the conference and field trips request, our kids are traveling various places and doing lots of really cool things and getting really cool experiences from that as well, so. Oh, and the welcome day. We're we're planning ahead for welcome day so that we can get the sixth graders coming down from the hill into seventh grade ready for their first day of school, which will be here before we know it, too. >> [snorts] >> To add to your band comment, cuz I would have talked about the band. If you see Mr.

Cessna, ask him for band student. Ask him about that trip to Virginia. They um was in the middle of the day, was the parade in 78° weather, which our children are not used to be doing at all. Um and their call spot was on a big asphalt um a playground. Parking lot. No trees, no nothing, and they still managed to do so well, and they didn't have nearly the practices they were going to have beforehand because of some different things happening. So, the fact that they did as well as they did is a real tribute to the students and their work and what Mr. Cain and Mr. Cessna are doing at the high school, and also Mr. Croff and those [clears throat] kids coming up through. Absolutely. >> But just just ask Mr. Cessna. He's

got lots of pictures and lots that he wants to tell you. Yep. All right. Thank you, ma'am. Okay, and moving on to financial. Um we have the uh financial summaries and board reports as item number one. Item number two is to approve purchasing for the 2026-27 school year from Co-Stars, art supplies, general supplies, janitorial supplies. [snorts] Item number three is the election of a member of the board to serve as board treasurer for one year. Didi currently serves in that. She's interested in serving again. Awesome. Correct? Yes, so Didi and Matt unless there's any objection. Yeah. >> [laughter] >> Okay, we have an agreement with Infocon for the preparation of the Jefferson County tax bills and we have an agreement with RBA for the preparation of the 2026 Indiana County tax bills. We also have

an increase in meal allowances of $5 each for overnight travel for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And item number seven is a transfer to $250,000 to the capital projects fund. Anything you need to fill in there? Questions on that? >> So so that's just for overnight travel and the non-overnight travel stipend is the same. Is that That what I'm reading interpreting that? It says overnight trip. Travel. I don't think you get it for a day trip. I don't believe that you do get that for day trips, but I will confirm that. Um That's in our policy. I will check that. Yeah, I thought I thought we talked about that like if the trip was if they were leaving there like 4:00 and it was a 3-hour drive or something, they they they did get the the

stipend. the funds, right? I'm not certain of that and I will check on that. Make sure I have it. I'll put that in the board minutes for you. I think this hasn't been increased since 2013. Correct. Okay, under personnel, um, we have, uh, item number one, the deletion of all subs as of June 30th. And this is as, uh, comes as a move to this, uh, to the ESS that we're using for the sub services. Um, item number two is a letter from Kyle Gordon to move from the assistant principal position to a, uh, high school social studies position, um, on at master step 15, uh, effective August 21st. Item number three is to hire individuals for, uh, professional positions. Um, we have a physics teacher, we have a reading specialist position. Um, we have

one one that we're going to have there, right? We'll still have another open position. Correct. Um, we have a, uh, special, uh, an autistic support teacher, and we have a high school life skills teacher. So, um, we have numerous, uh, teachers that we're hiring there. Item number four is permission for the library instructional assistants to work up to 10 additional days, uh, prior to the start of school year to prepare for the iPad distribution. Item number five is to hire two individuals as summer workers in the IT department. Item number six is the extended school year program. And item number seven are three resignations that we have. Item number eight is for, uh, to permit the 180-day support employees to work extra hours in the summer. Um, item number nine is the, um, setting the

pay rates for the, uh, substitute employees, uh, with being used by ESS. Um, that is for both the professional subs and the support subs. And item number 10 is a memorandum of memorandum of agreement with the PAEA for metal detectors and a professional development day. Anything we need to fill in there, clarify, or any questions for Dr. K on those? I have a question about the um permit 100 and number eight. >> [clears throat] >> Permit 180 days support employees to work extra hours during the summer in buildings grounds departments as cleaners at a rate of 12.30. Um is there a restriction on how many employees can do that? I mean, beyond what How's that determined? Does Carmen say I need X amount of people? Um I only a little bit more clarification from Susan

on this, but I think that we were going to leave it open-ended to start to get to determine interest and then certainly work with Carmen to determine what's a practical number of people that could be used. They could be used. >> Okay. So, we didn't necessarily set a number on that, but [snorts] um but we wanted to, you know, provide the opportunity. >> [clears throat and cough] >> Correct me if I'm wrong, Carmen, but summer cleaning's a big deal like we're top to bottom all through the summer, so it's be great if we got a lot of people that were interested in doing that making an extra money. Putting in the help. And the implementation of the metal detectors will take effect beginning of the next school year, correct? Yes. Any other questions? Okay, seeing

none, we will move on to the Jeff Tech report. Someone like to give that, Doug? Uh they had a car [clears throat] show today. It's the third year they did a car show. There was 81 cars there today. Um just [clears throat] an example of uh there were some newer cars, but some of the students had their cars in it. But there was a guy there who had a 1969 Yenko Camaro 427 four-speed. I don't know if you're familiar with cars but that's a $300,000 car. So there was there was some really great cars there. Um they did a great job putting it together. I thought it was an awesome event. I went in there expecting to see 20 cars on a Thursday afternoon. I was blown away by the participation that took place. So

they advertised it well. We had a couple people you probably saw it in the paper. >> [clears throat] >> But um I got to look for his name cuz I can't remember it but um Chase What's his name? Yeah, Chase Smith. He's in the center. He's a ninth-grade kid and he went to the SkillsUSA competition. First time ever sending a ninth-grade kid. Um and he blew everybody away. There was employers there saying I would hire that kid today. And actually they said he's the only kid competing and I would hire him today. He got scholarships walking away from there and he he'll compete in nationals ninth grade. I think he got into Georgia. Yeah. And he's a Punxsy resident too. So he good kid. It was funny because um what [clears throat] during the presentation

one of our board members you probably heard about this already. One of our board members always asked the same question is what's your sending school? And he said Punxsy and I was like naturally. >> [laughter] >> And a lot of people are like oh no. Yeah, he's killing it. Good kid. And we had other two um uh Krista Quinn and uh Millenia Colenberger both competed too. Um they took states in their demonstrating their welding skills and their leadership skills. so Jeff Tech's killing it still and we're doing really well in those competitions and pretty proud of those kids. They're getting better with They're getting more kids involved in their co-op program. 62 right now. >> Yeah, 62. We're going up by I think four from last month. So they're getting job placement and and things

like that. Yeah, and and hats off to the staff members to the go out there and actually arrange for that to happen and talk to employers and stuff like that. They're doing a great job. The number one on here, is that us board members or is that Jeff Tech board members that's supposed to have those the individual ballot? You should have got it in the mail. That's all it was. Okay, so we don't have it yet. All right, cuz I've been looking [clears throat] through your Mine came in Mine came in the mail today. The ballot. Did you get yours? Yeah. Oh, maybe cuz you guys are on their board that way. But we usually get ours here at the desk. Okay. Thank you. Yeah, so that was my uh next thing is yeah, item

number one is there will be ballots that are sent out for uh the budget, the and the nomination of officers as well as a cash flow resolution. Um IU report, Heather. Um at the last meeting we toured the Pace lab and I It's a really impressive setup to give our life skills kids um a real apartment. They have [cough] a garden, they hatch eggs, they do all of these different things and then in a separate part of the building at the IU they do office work and those kind of things, which it was nice to have that tour. Um it was interesting to know cuz especially with our focus on creating a successful kindergarten and helping those kids succeed, year-to-date for early intervention our IU has serviced in this the um 17 districts 1,188 preschool

students. Um Uh they have 21 um employees for speech. They have 18 teachers, um assistive technology people, and behavior specialists um which are the amount of referrals has increased on that. Um and they are creating functional uh behavioral assessments, which is helpful. Once we get our kids done into public ed, we have this fun this um foundation piece. Uh we just did some other approval of policies, which um the IU went through an audit, and it was very successful, and all of the things aligned the way that we had anticipated them. Um they did change some job descriptions based on the admin changing and the different speaking to the different roles and talents. So, if anyone's interested in those, they were redefining their transition coordinator position and director student services and uh professional counselors. So,

it just helps redefine the responsibility of those people within the organization and how they service us. Um as of interest to anyone, other things that came out of the IU, if you are someone who loves Stephen Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, IUP is hosting a free event open to the public on June 18th from 8:30 to 3:00, and I've done that before, and it's a pretty great um you know, a pretty great uh session to attend. Um there's They also have on the IU, if you're interested, a lot of professional development and different things. So, always feel free to uh explore those resources. Um anyone have any questions? >> Have you guys Have you Have they gotten a new director yet or is Michael Michael is staying on and um he's going to

stay on and it they have a really strong candidate for the assistant director. So, um he's going to stay on and help um he wanted to retire and then just didn't, so. Yeah, those things are still being finalized, but um we had to make a vote that any resignations and things that come through on the summer that they could be processed and cuz everyone's you know, putting feelers out there, so. Thank you, Heather. Okay, moving on. I don't believe we have any communications. We will also uh vote on the payment of the bills, uh the general fund, the cafeteria fund, and the uh there's three invoices there for um the roof replacement projects. Uh the first two and the third one is the stadium walkway uh project. Um under new business, um we have three

items here. The first is to increase the summer community pool hours. Uh this will be Monday through Friday um in the summer from 1 p.m. to 8 [clears throat] p.m. Um the second thing is uh the new community pool program program programs and uh this is basically the need for these extra hours. Um there will be uh youth swim lessons and adult scuba lessons. Um and item number three is to appoint two board members to serve as voting delegates to the 2026 PSV delegate assembly. I know Didi has expressed interest in that. Is there a second person that would be interested in serving in that capacity. Where is it at? It's in It's in Mechanicsburg. I did get a >> [snorts] >> I didn't see it when I read it. Is it just in person

this It's in per- It's They don't have the online ones anymore. Um it is in person. I went this last week and >> School District's Mountain View Auditorium. So, Cumberland Valley, I'm assuming it's in Cumberland County, which is down by Harrisburg and Mechanicsburg, probably. >> Yeah, I I think it's in Mechanicsburg. It was um it was a calendar. I don't even know. What is that address? Yeah, that's where it's at. November 7th? Jessica, you may want to un-space it cuz she was talking about wanting maybe wanting to do it, but I don't know if there's anybody else that's interested. I'll follow up with Jessica. For anyone else? I'm not opposed to it. Phil Sprogie, okay. Is this for the one-day thing? Mhm. Yeah. Cuz there's No, I think there's another thing that's multiple days, isn't

it? No, I think this is the three-day. That's That's the day of the voting, then they have the the um the conference ahead of that. >> Okay, that's what I was So, the conference is like a it's like a three-day conference that you go to, and then the last day is the voting for the voting delegates. That's what we That was what we did online. Whenever Yeah, we did it online. during COVID, you know, those years, and then last year Last year was the first year that they didn't have the online opportunity, you know, to do it online. They wanted people to be there, so >> Yeah, it says on there that there's no online option. >> There's no online option. Right. >> [snorts] >> Yeah. I mean, I'm not opposed to doing it unless

Jess wants it, then, you know, give her first dibs if she said she wanted it, so that's up to you, whoever. I'll follow up with Jessica. If she can't make it, then I'll Yeah. insert your name. >> [laughter] >> Good deal. Okay, any questions on the pool hours? Um I'm grateful, glad that we're doing youth swim lessons. I know they get some swim lessons uh during their instructional uh class, but I also know that it's you know, 10 minutes to get your swim suit on, 10 minutes to get it off, so it's a a pretty abbreviated thing. I think there's a need in our community for youth swim lessons. Um I know there's a number of people that go out of town for it. >> So, the adult scuba is open for anybody? So, I

don't know if you As far as I know, there's going to be some literature coming out. Um Larry Klinger is the uh individual who'll be um running that, but I don't have all the backup information for that just yet. I think it was the um as they have one here, the the fees and the structures will be released at a later date. That's great. Uh you probably don't know the answer to this, but um in that course, is there any open water? Or is it all strictly pool? Um not certain of that. I think to get the formal uh certification, or at least the level one certification, you have to have the open water. Yeah. Uh but I don't know if it's just a uh you know, just to try it and experience it, or

if they're going for the certification. >> Okay. The students who are going through that right now, will they receive their certification at the end of this? Yes. And naturally, they have an open water test that parents are responsible for taking them to the the cove at some time. There's a place that they go to that. Mhm. Okay, that's good. I'm glad they're getting their certs out of it. That's awesome. I'd like the I want to I did I did receive an email on this the conference. The conference is still going to be held October 19th through the 21st at the Kalahari Resort in the Poconos. That's the PSBA um uh leadership the school leadership conference. This is the the one for the delegates is is a different time it's November. 7th Yes. >> So this

what it was this last time is they actually had it at they actually had the PA they had us voting delegates vote that last day. So evidently they're not going to So they're splitting it together. Yeah, they're just Seems strange to not have the conference at the same time you're voting for the Yeah. Right. Right. So I'm not sure why you know I'm Do the same people that go to the conference have to be the delegates or That's a good question. No, you can No, you can go to the conference. >> can go to the conference. Anybody can go to the conference. I'd be interested All of us can go to the conference which I think it's great. It's great. It was a great conference. It really was. It was a nice nice start and

a lot of information. Okay. So I just wanted to let you know that that's that's something that's coming up. >> that email regarding the conference, please? It would They came from PSBA. It came Oh, it did? It came CRA research team, but I'll go ahead and It should have done it. Should have come to your email. Uh anything else for the good of the order? I have one thing. >> [laughter] >> The floor is yours. I have been asked by several parents to ask the board and administration if there was any way for next school year that when they take educational trips with their children if they would be allotted 5 days of excused absence opposed to being absent. Because right now they're not unexcused. >> Is that a Is that a district policy or

is that a state policy? You get 10 unexcused absences. If you take an educational field trip, that counts towards those 10. But if parents take a 7-day trip, then the kids only have the three days left is what their concern is, which I understand. It should be excused. I believe that that is state level. Let me research that and then I'll have something for you. Okay. I thought a I thought a educational trip was No. excused. No. I used It was at one time. >> Cuz I was Yeah. Yeah. It was at one time. You had to submit paperwork. >> There's a policy that speaks to that. So, we'll make sure that we pull that and share that with you. Okay. So, we're all having the same discussion on the whys and What do you

What do you When you say an educational trip, define that. Like you have to fill out an educational permission slip. Like if you're going to Disney and you put in a form that says an educational trip and they would used to it used to say why how is this educational? And you would put we're going to go to Epcot and study science and it was either approved or not approved or it could be a trip to the mountains and the mountains the Williamsburg or something like that. I've seen I just wanted to clarify. I've seen it used for Epcot trips. Yeah, well >> Which is educational. >> [laughter] >> That's why I always kind of was like but that's up to a principal. It was always up to a principal Sure. superintendent decided the actual

validity of the educational trip. Mhm. So, you're just asking for more educational days. No, they're asking for it to be excused opposed to using the 10 absences up. So, like I I took two trips this year and it was like a total of 14 days. So, on my like transcript it just says like 14 absent days. Like Oh. Yeah. And you got a letter in the mail saying that you're going to I have three like illegal absences. >> [laughter] >> Did you say take me to jail? Yeah. So, I mean that's That's the concern. That's the concern. That's the concern of parents. That's I I think they can distinguish if they you know if they can see if it's a true truancy issue. But they just don't want that on their transcript and they don't

think that should be that. It was like so they call home and they say hey like is everything okay? They talk to me is everything okay? They're like yeah like it's not against you but the issue is then like now you look at my transcript and it says I have three illegal absences but I wasn't like skipping school. You know what I mean? Mhm. Well, but you were cuz you weren't there. Yeah. Yeah. Call it what you want Beth. You were skipping school. No. >> [laughter] >> I I get it but I don't know. I I'm old school. Take your vacation when there isn't school. I don't know. That's just me. That's how I look at it. I'm old school. Well, we'll get some clarification for Tuesday. Thank you. >> Yes. Anything else? No. All

right. Uh have a good night everyone. This meeting is adjourned.
