001um have a good trip to colorado springs yeah that was good was it snowing yes pikes i played close past eleven thousand pieces said that it would maybe a week before they had it open all the way to the top right so all right we'll go and close my meeting to order uh first of all thanks for everyone for being here and those that are watching online i do appreciate it just kind of a couple housekeeping things before we get started i just want to remind everyone this is a board meeting um and so though it may not be very exciting um but just keep that in mind if you're sitting there and you get bored don't chit chat to the person next to you because it's really distracting has a hard time for us

002to hear and everybody else to hear so just kind of keep that in mind the other thing is is that it is again a board meeting so don't yell things at us if you feel like you want to say something you know that kind of thing try to keep that to a minimum as well and then again thanks thanks for being here we'll go ahead and get started let's start with the approval agenda do want to add a executive session for non-elected personnel um half of the principles required and then i need to add on number nine for resignations gary bittner central plains elementary school pe teacher any other changes or additions i'll entertain a motion to approve the agenda motion by roger all in favor of japan expenses and then approval of the regular

003meeting minutes on the 14th and then a special meeting on the 21st corrections okay we do have a few for the public forum um so again so uh review of this process uh we asked that everybody kind of stay within five minutes just for the interest of time and to be as cordial to everyone in the room as much as as possible and it is a chance for those that have signed up to say their thoughts so it's not a back and forth with the board and not a back and forth with everyone else in the audience so just kind of stay as civil as we can let's do it how is it before sure okay great i'm allison ford i live in wilson and i taught here for 13 years i also was fortunate

004to work on the configuration committee last year and uh out of that being on that committee i learned a lot but two things that really stuck out one was that we need both ends in order for our schools to survive and the other one is that wilson has some empty rooms and so being a part of the community in wilson something we need is daycare and i don't know about i can't speak for your end but i am asking you as a board to consider putting in daycares into our schools and offering free daycare to teachers as a recruiting device um and i feel like it would be beneficial to our communities to have a daycare in our school i i think feel strongly that we need to work on filling our classrooms rather than

005emptying them thank you well uh barbara mustard i'm here just to ask about maybe the classroom courts after gary vigner and mark custom has come up with a sign on that and we kind of love the top one and basically we're going to pop off the middle left we'll go up above what's out there for the same title that's the tennis courts right the tennis courts 40 years like 20 years but close to 40 years and has changed a lot of kids lives and that this has been his family so i feel like it's 12 to 30. thank you and just a welcome good evening ladies and gentlemen of the board and community members after doing some research i found that clathrin has 118 students 7 through 12 and wilson has 67. in these classes

00628 is the highest amount of students per class at class 1 to wilson's 23. my question to the board is why does 5 students want two teachers to r1 wilson has one math teacher english and science teacher of the core classes for grades seven through twelve my class one has two for these four subjects on tonight's agenda mr spears is tindering his resignation why can't one of the math teachers come to wilson and teach instead of having to hire a new math teacher then why not block schedule this gives teachers more time to teach and the kids more time to do their assignments works great at wilson especially for any child that is in extracurricular activities as it gives them an extra day to complete assignments this prepares the students for the future in college

007that's the way it is when they graduate high school again just another example of a unified school district being divided i know unified school districts that have shared teachers and have been doing so since the 1990s let's try to work smarter not harder thank you and approval of invoices i'm going to have a few to go through with you uh none on the first page of your check journal one thing that's really caught my attention here over the last few months on the top of page two you'll see our fuel mills that we have for transportation as you know the price of fuel diesel and gasoline has gone up quite a bit so wanted to make you aware of those added expenses uh on page three you'll see dollywood foundation uh that is a program

008work hard of and we give money to and then parents uh in our district who have younger children can join the dolly parton foundation and receive free books for their kids to you know read it home to their children really a great program next one on the list you'll see that department of transportation physical we do that for all bus drivers we pay for their physical so kind of a benefit of working as a bus driver and on top of page five you'll see some repairs to the water heaters at central plains high school we had tankless heaters had several of them go down recently and we had to get those repaired so we had hot water to serve the kitchen they just it was a kind of a debate on parts versus new uh

009the parks were going to be really hard to come by the machines were very old so we went ahead with the replacement uh let's see what else again on that second check journal you'll see central planes co-op for gas i think that was all of them is there any that anybody has any questions about it board member has a question i will entertain a motion to approve the influence push the rogers second by josh hall favorite push pass and treasures report beginning bank balance first kansas 176 515 dollars two cents deposits 564 thousand nine hundred seven dollars and sixty eight cents checks cashed six hundred ninety one thousand five hundred twenty six dollars 97 cents ending bank balance 49 895.73 checks outstanding 28 381.47 ending balance twenty one thousand five hundred fourteen dollars and twenty

010six cents bank of hollywood beginning balance one million three hundred ten thousand nine hundred ninety four dollars seventy 76 cents deposits 660 359.53 checks cashed 1 million 57 cents 321.99 ending bank balance of 914 032.30 checks outstanding 5 ending balance on hand at 908 306.74 cd at wilson 100 364.50 total on cash on hand 1 million thirty thousand one hundred eighty five dollars and fifty cents no questions i'll entertain a motion to approve the treasury what's an ecf that's that was reimbursement for that emergency connectivity grant that we wrote we spit that yes but they deposited it they gave us money we deposited it back to cover things that we'd already bought before we got them it's like a wash like a wall and reconciliation the reconciliation should be in your the empty package balance

011matches the cash of the thing which also matches darling's treasures report so we are in balance mr clark uh general fund uh about 277 000 more lob uh 300 000 more capital outlay 94 000 more and food service 24 000 uh just an fyi we probably will want to republish the budget in april uh we've had more kids through that graduation alliance so our kids young adults so we'll probably need to re-publish graduation alliance gave us an estimate on the number of credits that were going to be earned by the energy and i asked them to give me an estimate so we don't have our lakeside learning center virtual and budget high enough to flow through all those extra credits that we're going to get so you have to republish the general fund bump that

012up so that way the money can flow through there and then go into the virtual so there's no cost to taxpayers it's just a publication in the newspaper to raise that it's all going to be state aid money but we have to get that high enough for we can't make those payments still they'll see it we have to make sure our budget's high which is good news i mean they are getting more and more credits all the time which is good news so awesome thank you and principals reports bank statement equals what we have in our in our activity account for conferences we have over 93 of our parents attend uh the teachers are real good about contacting parents by phone if they aren't able to come in um our kansas assessments will begin april

0136th and then april 22nd third and sixth take the map and reading fourth take math reading and social studies and fifth i'll take the math reading and science so those three weeks will be busy with assessments they shorten the window this year so we don't have as much time to get so i'll take eight students out to eat this thursday who earned 100 points or more in our reading program um tate mckenna chloe cook adeline habiger ashton robel zoe schneider kami zink and evan and emery simpson will go out to eat and today was the first time our fifth graders went to salina for starbase this is the first year we participated in it i believe wilson's been participating in it for a while we have got an invite this summer it's a five-day program

014so for the next five mondays the kids go to celina it was phenomenal when they came off the bus today at the end of the day they were so excited and had so much fun and all so it's all tied around stem you know science technology engineering and math so all of it was hands-on uh lisa ryan the teacher said the teachers there were excellent the kids had no down time they just moved and kept busy all day and they said it was a lot of fun so we'll do that performance and that's no cost to us except for the transportation there so a neat program um letters training i have three of the teachers attending letters training for the next couple of years um the state is funding this the only cost we would

015have is i think they have four days over these next two years they will go to a workshop but most of it is all online um shay she amy hurley and kirsten kinsey are doing this and when i was looking at the number of hours they have to commit to this it's huge it's between 130 and 150 hours over the next two years they have to commit to this and it all pertains to the fundamentals of reading instruction so it'll be excellent we'll see how it goes and then they'll take more teachers later on through the different cycles that they're going to have so any questions thank you our uh bank statement reconciliation report all matched into the third quarter was friday the 11th uh spring sports started as you can tell it's raining so

016track and tennis are right on schedule state basketball the girls were state champions once again boys had won their sub state but lost their first round game junior high performed at the la crosse music festival if you look at the second page it gives you the rank the ratings not the number of kids that participated but that's their ratings then cpl music was held at barton county on 3 8 their ratings are below on the second page 112 honors banquet for seniors and parents will be this thursday the 24th at 6 30. you're invited if you want to come let me know as soon as possible so we can get you some food um we will host the cpl honors banquet on the 29th that's 10 the top 10 of juniors and seniors in the

017league are invited and it will be held on the 29th in our gym community scholarship application deadline is april the 1st prom is april the 9th we will be hosting the kem fa state powerlifting meet on april 23rd if you'd like to help i'm sure coach steiner would love to have you and we're working on pre-enrollment for next year question all right thank you mr president i believe that the board is going to executive session pursuant to the kansas civilians act to discuss confidential personnel matters personnel as they relate to an administrator's contract and that will return the open session in this room [Music] stick with your hands [Music] [Applause] hmm okay i just oh [Music] okay and he went right while we turn it right down do a couple more minutes i just i'm

018typing them up now by season they're little texts so those are the track positions for essential effects they usually are your legs sorry we are back in open session so we will move on to number nine uh the board approval of the resignations uh patty clark john club clue sorry b.j mockerman spears and barbara lee and then gary bender thank you for your mom writing they'll entertain motion to approve those questions second second by josh all favorite hand players and then a board approval for holly young for the central plains elementary school teacher any further discussion i don't believe uh the class has been assigned yet that's gonna bush passes and more approval for michelle rachel for substitute teacher michelle is a hera up north at wilson and she applied for the teal substitute emergency

019license which is good until uh june the first as you remember the state department's weight as waves of the requirements now because there's a shortage of substitute teachers so she filled out all the requirements mr clark signed off so it would just it's formality thank you entertainment approved by cameron second by chad paul vader again and what approval for the 2223 calendar you have that in front of you very very similar to this year's calendar we administrators teachers worked through we always catch something that we didn't see before but before you is the calendar i think this was overwhelmingly the choice of the teachers it's like i said very very similar to this year first day of school four students will be august 17th last day will be may 19th spring breaks coincide with all

020universities and schools in kansas very similar any questions on that calendar all entertaining motion to approve motion by chat second by camera all in favor of your hands and we've bought approval for the assistant baseball coach in wilson nathan david paschick assistant high school track wilson cindy hindsey assistant junior high school track daisy adams and the junior high head boys and girls track is uh carlos tipler best and the gym floor refinishing uh we received the bill or a budget from vaughn lentil who does our floors every year we'll do some planes high school uh the auxiliary gym at the wreck we'll do both of the gym floors at wilson and this is the year we do the holly room gym floor we do it every other year and i have added those up and

021put them on a sticky note and i think i left the sticky note on my desk so we don't have the total dollar amount and we will get a thousand dollars off that bill for doing all right i wrote it down i don't know what i did so i apologize [Music] so just so everyone's aware of the numbers the cloud one jim is 3120 the uh box gym floor at that one is 1680. the wilson high school two gems are 43 and the hollywood gym is 18. and obviously diane did not give me that number now i did it in my head any further discussions fair enough all in favor raise your hand most quests and the retention bonus out of the essence i've submitted my application for s or 3 funds i'm sure it

022will be returned they seem to be returning virtually everyone they get but we still have sr2 funds uh at this time i feel like we can afford to give a thousand dollars to all district employees clarification that's classified classified certified um not specially just i need to say that and i'm in favor of it but uh i'm disappointed some of the staff on the pushback that we got earlier in the year on the steering committee about not working more together to work with the scheduling and sharing of staff and so forth someone that would be public but i'm in favor of the voters any further discussion hear none all in favor of your hand motion passes and superintendent well i only have two short ones legislative update it's the time of the year when they're

023throwing about anything against the wall to see what will stick yeah you should have a document a two-sided document at your place um we have senate bill 496 which is the parents bill of rights it lists 12 parental rights that are required and required local policies require us to list academic learning material activities curriculum state curriculum standards social emotional library materials and that and how to inspect materials you know any parent in in our district or in any district around the state i would hope uh could would feel free to contact their public principal their classroom child's classroom teacher and get any of that information uh this sets this arbitrary date that it's got to be on your website don't really feel like it is a necessary need senate bill 455 would require school districts

024to determine the number of non-resident students that would be allowed to transfer into their school district the transfers would be required providing there is capacity starting in the fall of 2023 again that's the go to whatever district you want to go to which there's a lot of issues with that as far as loading sports teams to just any numer any numerous uh issues another one they're working on is assessment taxation uh recommended approval of senate bill which says any public teachers hired after july 1st 2024 would no longer be under the capers retirement plan would be would instead have to participate in a thrift savings plan like 401k uh capers has run numbers on this and they said that it would actually cost the state and school districts up to a billion dollars more as

025they went through this if they didn't continue with capers so again let's throw it against everything against the wall and see what sticks they're wanting to put some money a hundred thousand dollars in the statewide dyslexia coordinator a hundred thousand dollars into communities and schools grants add 5 million to restore the school safety security grant those are that's great we have that money for a few years and we used it for locks on doors the only downside to that money is you have to match it with your own money so if you get fifty thousand dollars and you wanna spend fifty thousand dollars on improving the safety of something uh it costs you twenty five thousand got to match the funds so they did not want to help provide transportation for students in career and

026tech ed three million dollars for student mental health four million uh this is interesting four million to be provided by the statewide implementation of math nation program for supplemental math services for grades 7 through 12. so any district that has more than 50 percent of their students scoring at level 1 or 2 in the 2019 math assessment must participate in the program and contribute to the cost based on their fte i have a lot of problems i don't know anything about math nation and as far as i know i don't think there are many educators in the state legislature so i have a feeling somebody somewhere put a bug in their ear about math nation maybe it's the greatest program but i really have a hard time with this is an unfunded mandate we'll have

027to kick in money now we're not anywhere near i don't you know 50 of our students uh scoring on one and two but um just i i think it's fed uh state government overreach uh the last one house bill 2690 um adopt a legislative statement on education and academic achievement every child can read act which directs school boards to measure student achievement provided provide targeted intervention to promote student leadership especially for students at or below the third grade level and a literacy deficit provide communicating with parents that make reports to the state board and requiring an annual report from the state department of education to report on the academic achievements including state assessment results and other measures you know one of the things that they mentioned a lot is we've given more money to schools

028and some scores have gone down there's been a lot that has helped a tribute to that pandemic missing uh nine weeks of school i would stack our students here in this district we're doing a pretty good job i'll always have room for improvement but that is some of the actions being taken i have sent emails to our representatives and ask them to come spend the day in our school to see what we do get to have a response but i would invite them to come out and see the work that teachers and administration do in this district parents to help students so any questions on any of the legislative so as far as the parents bill of rights our library reporting system uh i'll be honest with you any teacher that can tell me what

029they're going to do on october 21st if that's a work day next year i'd be disappointed because who knows what might have happened october 20 or the day before i mean some of you that are farmers you can say i'm going to plant wheat on this date but if it rains or whatever and you can't get in the field you push it you adjust to what the conditions tell you the same with students i've often said a lot of times they try to make educating students like building a car and it's not it's not an assembly line process every kid is different every kid learns different we have experts in the classroom our teachers who determine what that is and adjust as they go so interesting times so just for that that the parents go

030right well see that's what they're doing they'll do some of that or they might slip the food tax went in on that to try to i mean i'm like for stand-alone vote this vote that don't bundle things together uh like i said i i'm in contact they're not they're not terribly uh great about responding to emails which is disappointing but i did see that there's going to be an open house and i have it on my calendar i think it's in april april 11th or something that i'll probably go to over in great band but honestly when i talk like troy waymaster education always takes up a lot of the legislative time but it seems to be a full-on assault on public education at the state level right now and one of the things they

031did is they uh said hey invite them out to your buildings and see what you guys do so if any of you are listening open invitation come on out we'd love to have you uh strategic plan update this is based off some of the work the configuration committee did with uh mr jordan disseminated into a workable document i'm not going to go on the whole vision part i'll just get to the meat potatoes if you go to i gotta grab the one where my sticky notes are i'm grabbing the wrong one facilities physical plant improvements uh you see the four actions that are listed there i'm going to briefly touch on our plans or what we have done for those uh establish a cycle of maintenance we have a preliminary plan but we're really going

032to spend some time this summer getting our maintenance crews in and trying to develop a plan so if they were to leave somebody else could come in and say oh this year i need to make sure i do this and kind of work i can't really do that myself because i don't know when that air filter needs to be changed i need to get them in so we're going to get them in and help develop that similar to the capital outlay we're continuing to work on that we always look at how we budget in capital outlay and where that money money's going uh sid weens has been out in the district he was here over spring break and walked the buildings with an architect thank you to tim amg and gunner for showing them around

033they've been in the buildings multiple times he's working on developing a list of building needs that i'm he might be ready to present in april at the worst i think it would be may so we've got that he's looking he's been looking at the buildings continuing on physical plant improvements i have a full bid from ins alert security out of ellenwood for security at wilson and central plains high school uh i was going to have them present tonight but uh we'll probably push them until april uh here's the full vid we've met with them several times they've walked all the buildings some of the highlights of the bid that could be used esther money can be used for improved camera surveillance system access control panels uh vape detectors uh cameras surveillance wilson and klaplin and

034also a monitoring system that they would help monitor and the way we can get some of this under esser is contact tracing so with cameras you can visually contact trace who was near another person and the vape uh detecting detection which we have some issues in our district with vaping also that falls under clean air but it also has a detection if somebody were like getting a fight in a bathroom it would alert as well so uh really excited with the plan they've provided it's not cheap i'm going to tell you that right now we're a little north of 200 for all that but it does i really the vape detection is something we really need to look into securing all the entrances and i think it will be a good good way to provide

035our students that safe environment that we want also we're working again with sid uh on capital outlay plan what could be part of a possible bond issue what could we try to attack with our uh capital outlay plan uh so we're kind of working on all that next page yes okay interrupt uh going back to the security does that mean there's cameras everywhere there would be mushrooms i don't think they're being classified in bathrooms no would not be in bad news be in hallways uh outside yeah you know like high definition we have cameras now but again you go to shoot out there kind of grainy not these are high definition cameras scott am i missing anything 4k 4k they have a monitoring uh like we've had we had an alarm going off here because

036there was a balloon in the room and it was fluttering around and i know that for a fact because i met the sheriff out here two o'clock in the morning one morning and i think mrs ogers had to do that too a time or two but so they would help monitor the system uh i really like to have them come out and explain everything to you because i know i wouldn't do it justice so good question uh next page utilization and efficiencies the one move salaries out of capital outlay so dollars are more accessible for repairs and improvements uh be honest with you i just can't i can't do that i just don't i don't have the general fund money to move that salary out of capital outlay at this time i just don't don't

037have it so i'll continue to work on trying to find a way to make it happen but right now i i can't establish and communicate district-wide staffing guidelines that set people-teacher ratios that drives decisions to split combine or add paris to the classroom when administrators and i talked about this were a little concerned to ever set a class size like a hard limit like you can have 20 kids and they can be just super i mean you don't have any problem you have a few problems but you can deal with it then you can have 20 that you might want to split if you possibly could so a little nervous about setting hard guidelines because uh there's always an exception to the rule of that number so and our classrooms are different size uh you

038know some classrooms say at the high school you can put 20 22 kids in kind of difficult in some of our elementary classrooms to get 22-23 in there it gets a bit crowded so uh a little gun shy and i'd be happy to suggestions from the board on how maybe there's some guidelines we could write up to follow you know listen to teacher feedback listen principal feedback on those type of decisions would be my guess and my thought um utilize virtual strap through technology between buildings this ties in with some of our plans working again with that distance learning grant with offering physics and spanish through great bend high school we will have four classes next year that will stream between the two buildings accounting keyboarding forensics and consumer math we'll have those four streaming

039between the two high schools did i forget one consumer consumer personal finance what did i say sorry uh so we have that um the second this next one uh sharing teachers among the buildings so we kind of we already kind of have that going next year with some of the distance learning we are going to have a reading specialist next year that will help with reading at both ends of the district we are also looking at using 20 percent of our esther money has to go to uh helping at-risk students we're looking at hiring a family engagement coordinator and we do have an interview for that on wednesday so i think that could be a positive thing district-wide we do have a a curriculum adoption guidelines right now they do need to be updated and

040tweaked that will be one of our summer activities one of our problems that we have is we do charge a textbook fee but that textbook fee only brings in nine to ten thousand dollars a year and the sad part is for adoption of say a reading curriculum for an elementary building might cost you 24 25 000 just for one building so if you did both buildings you're looking at maybe 40 to 50 thousand dollars we've got to figure out a way to either raise a little bit more money in our textbook adoption uh textbook fund because it's just those textbooks materials are not getting any cheap uh click the page here staff recruitment just develop incentives and supports to improve teacher recruitment retention i think we did one of those tonight we approved a thousand

041dollars retention bonus uh looking at daycares uh have a meeting with j.r robel on the 4th of april for possible daycare and uh the old elementary school in cleveland also working with j.r hopefully uh in williston uh they he's got some grants that he worked throughout a great bend to help uh facilitate those type of programs they come in he's an architect and he'd come in and redesign that space and there's some money that we can get the problem we're going to have is staffing trying to find people to run a daycare not it not easy uh incorporated new innovative ideas with teachers throughout different approaches to professional development you know i feel like our principals are pretty open to allowing teachers to explore professional development one of the things that i kind of tie

042into that is teacher recruitment and we're we have a teacher that's going to be at least one teacher that's going to be in the teacher apprenticeship program at wwe it'll allow them to teach and go to college at the same time there's a possibility we'll have two in that program next year so uh we've done the transition to teach and that's worked out sometimes and sometimes not so much but i do think you know there's things we can do to try to encourage people to come and teach in our district uh student programming and opportunities uh elementary level career fair day aligned with state career pathways we've not done that one yet at high school work to get instructors certified and identify a location where students can get certified send students to barton county community

043college for industry certification we are working with barton county they got their plumbing their construction uh electrical that where we can send students to also our district and i don't know if this is on the next one or this one we currently offer cte classes such as power structure and technical systems family and community community consumer services animal science information support services restaurant and event management then we also have power some of the same ones at wilson comprehensive agriculture science and these are offered like i said both buildings graphic design business construction design marketing business finance so we have quite a few cte pathways that students can take advantage of while they're enrolled in our district uh identify the students area of strength and interest through fellow which is career cruising and we currently do

044that our counselors uh work with our students through that program and hopefully find a career path that interests them and then base the classes they take in high schools off that you know if they want to go into construction they need to take some woods classes if they want to go into uh you know become a doctor you take your math classes and your science classes so we kind of map to help them map that all out and i believe they share that information with their parents at the conferences in the spring so student programming and opportunities work with upper level course teachers do identify desired experiences that align with student interests uh tried to work on some of that we do not have much of that in place right now uh we you know

045i think that's something that is on the horizon that we've got to do a better job of one of the things that i've often thought about is having like i said a business summit where business leaders from around here come in h b wilson communication volley manufacturing culture manufacturing come in and say what do you if a kid comes to you straight out of high school what do you need from they're going to say we need them to show up on time and be here every day but we don't maybe they'd also like to have them be able to you know work together as a team solve problems a lot of times they can give them the other skills they need but they need some of those soft skills uh identify experiences for freshmen and

046sophomores that expose students to a variety of careers i've not to my knowledge have we done anything on that one yet either i didn't think we'd get them all done like the time you developed them but uh we're getting there uh student program and opportunities we are working like i said we have fifth grade go to starbase we have students that regularly go to like barton county uh shine bottoms uh and we've had the science van maker maker out i think last year at the end of the year mrs ozier and wilson they went came in for a day and kids did steam activities all day we can always improve in that area again i looked at other districts and with the exception of some very large districts we are right up there on cte

047classes the ones we really need to make sure that we are doing are ones that are the high need you know the nursing field the uh service type fields those are areas where we really need to spend our time focusing because that's we can get we can get full funding for those because they're of high need uh positions so excited about some of our opportunities so that we do provide students uh student programming and opportunities continue to work with teachers to take relevant trips technology we have like i said we have robotics i put in a grant for drones with uh what up thank you so if anybody knows anybody at one oak i'd be happy that you could say give central plains the plug and let us get our drones um we're all we're

048always looking at new pathways we've added that one train to templeton restaurant event management safe serve or surf safe i was saying it backwards and like i said i've looked and i've asked other districts we're on par if not a little bit above some of the cte pathways that other districts offer and i'm going to credit our teachers for that uh mr ryan mrs locke uh lisa kreitz trina templeton i know i'm gonna forget somebody so and the others that do that i know i get to approve all of the pathways so i get a chance to read through them see all the steps that the students have to take in the courses they have to take so good stuff there and last one actually do some exploration around courses that need to be offered

049continue to build ones and i couldn't done on that we've worked on that we're not totally done but we have worked on classes that can go between two buildings so i feel like we're off to a good start on our strategic plan yeah there's some we haven't done yet but sometimes just work that's in the way of getting other stuff done any questions on any of that that's all i have for some tips thank you more discussion on our work sessions so this is just a continuation of the work session that we had and that discussion of addressing uh staff issues if we have them and what that means and other issues along the way and how do we plan that mr clark's kind of approach was okay so here's plan a if that doesn't

050work what's plan e and then plan c what's the priority that kind of thing and so we had that discussion um and obviously that discussion is the reason that we're now in the gym and so we just want to continue to have that and go from there i did give you a pack and i've been emailing you during the spring break some information uh this is more superintendent thanks taylor simpson for showing me how to do this on powerpoint of a flowchart of what could happen if certain decisions are made you also have budget numbers you have a gas utility bill bills for the building enrollment numbers you have our staffing issues that we have right now um i had a board member asked for that and i was in the process of doing it

051but i hadn't quite got there yet so thank you to my principals for helping me finish that today so you have quite a bit of information there that you also have wilson junior senior high school uh enrollment projections with some additional thoughts on putting sixth grade into the rotation let me know if there's any other additional information well first of all i do want to publicly thank mr clark and diane for the work that they've put in in this last week i know that we have as a board bombarded them with asking for information and asking questions and things and so i do want to appreciate that it's uh i'm sure not easy trying to keep up with all of our random thoughts that we have through the week but i do i do want

052to kind of have a discussion or just get people's thoughts or just share my thoughts i guess depending on where it goes but you know kind of the work session last time led to back to the discussion of moving the students from the 7th through 12th from wilson down to clapham and i do understand i mean as a district with this number of kids and we've had this discussion a thousand times i do understand the thought that that we have too many teachers for that number of kids and if you compare it to any district that that is the case but unfortunately and i said it in the work session it just that is what it is because of the distance that we have between the buildings it's not you know we're not three blocks

053away from each other and you know have these these two buildings and so i just i don't think and i've said it many times that we can survive as a district if we do that either direction and my my ask is of the board and of the communities is that when you have those discussions and you're thinking about that to think about it both directions that think about why you wouldn't want to or you know what the pros are of taking the five through or seven through 12 from wilson down to klaplin or taking the seven through 12 o'clock wilson and i think as far as i'm concerned or and as far as i think that if you take that and you say yeah we could combine those have less teachers have more funding in

054the general fund and looking at at that point makes sense but as soon as you start saying like okay let's move these kids here or these kids here it completely falls apart and that's just because of the distance and that there are so many different closer high schools no matter which direction that is and i think it's easier for all of us to say well i can solve this if the other kids have to do it and i don't want that for either side obviously being from wilson i don't want to do that because it will scatter everyone on the wilson side but i don't want to do that to clapham either because it will scatter everyone there and so just as my continuation of that conversation before and just having that thought process so

055mr clark staffing for next year what's you're feeling know what you wrote what's your gut feeling about filling positions uh find that page real quick the only one [Music] uh i think the math at central plains high school is going to be extremely hard uh counselor extremely hard special ed i think we have a lead uh secretary mr holmes three candidates were interviewing we're going to do this pear affair on april the 7th good idea well i hope we're going to invite them in have them shadow a parent for a few hours in the morning feed them lunch tell them what the benefits are of working for usd 112. elementary school we have nurse interviews central plains elementary of nurse interviews four candidates i feel like we've got a whoa [Laughter] well that's the first

056time i've ever done that i could continue with my flashlight on my phone you want me to do that as well all right here we go [Music] all right um you can see the positions uh the last one i'm speaking about was pe uh we do have uh three or four candidates for that position feel really strongly uh central kansas special education co-op due to the special ed numbers in this building we'll be adding a additional special ed person if we can find one emily thompson who had been at wilson and central plains will be doing a three-year-old and four-year-old here we do not have a library pair yet for b.j mockman and currently we have three special education pairs and two regular ed pairs that we will need to fill next year at wilson

057uh emily thompson is going to be coming here teresa heinrich's going to take over the three and four-year-old we have some candidates for mrs bourbon's corbin's uh second grade position we have a possible candidate for the fifth grade position we have a potential candidate emma belisle who teaches uh sixth grade for us will go up and uh teach math she can she is going to take the test to be certified to teach that she would also help with some of the sixth grade classes uh science possibly in the rotation as if sixth grade is in the rotation and then they would need two regular ed paras uh we have planned on having sabrina bourbon become the district's reading specialist uh that will be our use of our 20 esser funds and meeting state requirements on

058dyslexia and we do have an interview on wednesday that i'm excited about for the family engagement coordinator uh has a lot of contacts that can help some of our families so did that answer your question mr robinson we're going to be facing these situations every year yeah diana's correct me down but you've got a spreadsheet of people that are retirement age you're close to there's a number of them on there yes that's true that changes every month as their points get closer i can get on papers and they'll tell me exactly who's eligible to retire and what if they're eligible to retire so we're going to face this every year we are we have aging staff we have an agent and uh the incoming educational staff that's our teachers are incoming are fewer and fewer

059i'd say one of the things that we have going for us as a district and i will say this for both ends of the district is if you look at some of our homegrown kids that come back and teach for us brooke major justine de laval uh in wilson are just two that come off the top of my head megan cook k keeley hip keely hip uh help me am i forgetting somebody else aaron gonzalez okay those are people those are young adults that came back to our district because of the experience that they had here so we're the family that they have here or whatever so i feel very fortunate about that if that that speaks to our communities that
