002you have traveled a great distance to be here to celebrate this day and once again we say thank you seniors High School graduation marks a crowning moment in your journey to great success today represents a culmination of 12 years of progress for you take time to enjoy this moment but also recognize that your journey does not end here today it is just the beginning now I have now I know that each one of you have a plan for your future I hope by now that you have taken the necessary steps to put your plan into action so I encourage each of you to see your plan through until the very end but I also want you to understand that plans change all the time most more likely the plans that you have for yourself today
003will be derailed they will be revised or abandoned completely or maybe changed into something greater than You' ever imagined so when change is forced upon you embrace it find the next thing that makes you happy and pursue it with the same energy and Excellence that you are feeling right now the possibilities for your future are endless so be relentless when you pursue them also recognize that none of you here got here alone there are many people in your corner cheering on cheering you on and ensuring that you had what you needed to get get to this point I want to take this time to recognize a few of these people first if you are a parent of a graduating senior or play a role of a parent for one please stand at this [Applause] time

006art of height just yet so uh good morning you guys hang in there sweet uh I can remember sitting in these seats and all I can think about was I'm just through the haty a here so I hope today you take a moment to listen because I'm really humbled and honored to be able to take the moment and speak to you all I see right in front of me today but uh first of all thank you Katie for uh reaching out to me again I'm very humbled to be here today it's incredible to come back uh it's my hometown High School I haven't been in this building probably since I've set in that seat I did uh have the opportunity about 10 years ago to be in the other part of that school but not
007actually physically in here so uh it's truly incredible it's a flood of emotions and I'm sure that you guys were also uh feeling those flood of emotions but uh thank you you can read the bio just ignore it it's all half a lie but uh part of it is um really I was average at best uh and quite frankly a lot of the times below average when I was sitting your shoes working in to the point of the opportunity actually graduating high school so and I just kind of want you to file that away because uh the greatest moments when you kind of turn that light botb on and you make that corner in your life to actually U make a change all right so something to think about I noticed back here on the
008screen uh figure it out it's GL mot I love it I keep telling my son that every day just figure it out I don't know a problem solve who's Mr bus is that what's that hello teacher well that's pretty incredible Mr bus I love it it's a great class mod but um I wanted to want to close shout out for I get the script but you know all the teachers here um there are some I think here that were still here or excuse me still here when I was here and I just want to apologize for the heck my friends and I put you through uh I can't even imagine what you thought uh was going to be the result of Our Lives ahead of us and I just appreciate your commitment patience and your
009resiliency that we put you through so uh thank you guys uh so very much um that uh being said uh ladies and gentlemen distinguished guests faulty parents and most importantly you guys right here in front of me the graduating class of 2024 it's both honor and privilege to stand before you today as a proud luminus here in San High School there's 24 of you right 2024 pretty good R to it wow actually my class has 24 it too so it's S I suppose it's pretty cool stuff um but as I look U here today at the Sea of familiar faces and Bright Futures I am filled with a sense of Pride and Nostalgia uh for this place always hold a special Corner in my heart I want you guys to remember that as you leave
010here bark in your life while a small town there's no other town with a bigger heart for its people and the uh pass down of greatness which is kind of the big point of my speech today all right graduat if you sit before me on the cusp for the new chapter of your lives I reminded my own Journey from these very hallways to the skies above it's here that I first learned the values of hard work dedication perseverance values that have carried me through the most challenging moments of my life today I stand before you not as Testament to my own of my own achievements but a Testament of the power to dream big and never give up those dreams and an equally important Testament of the relationships which is a big part of of
011what I want to discuss with you but a testament of relationships go from a child until now I want you all to look to your uh look around and reflect we have something absolutely in commmon here at St at high school there are people in this gymnasium that have taught you mentored you and nurtured you a lot of these same faces of Miss Jim today are the exact same thing texting folks that did this for me the teachers the coaches bosses and most importantly your parents without all these folks none of this in this room in your future is possible and I know uh principal already kind of stole my thunder on on this a little bit but I want you guys please stand up and join me and thank you everyone in this room
012are around you can you guys do that a question round aw what you get stand up and wake up kind hard Focus this long especially congratulation yeah see see if I move along U but seriously uh all of you in this room from the bottom of my heart thank you because without you in this room I wouldn't be here today and neither I would them so thank you very much all right we're going to get a little bit of a dialogue here June 2004 a small town American Boy five LS is selected to the Naval aviator one of 13 spots across all colleges in the United States December 2006 a student na avor is informed they broke all historic records with regards to flight school grades and received his dream shot to fight 8 f
013t May 2011 4:30 a.m. Navy fighter pilot is launched on alert F18 in the north Arabian Sea and in support of escorting and sof Bens body the Special Operations teams out of Pakistan September 2012 a pair of f18s call signs doless 21 and 22 we flying over Afghanistan on a 5H hour mission excuse me on hour five of an 8 hour mission and supportive operation during Freedom while executing a or fueling thoughtless 21 receiv received asking from combat control fly north to Northeast Afghanistan to support troops and contact on checking in it was apparent troops on the ground were overwhelmed and taking fire from enemy insurgents D 21 and 22 will proceed to imploy three 500 lb bombs piece on six different bombing runs resulting in over a dozen enemy killed in action and mortally
014wounding 24 enemy in action totaling over 32 enemy killed in action within the next 24 hours Don 21 pilot will later receive a letter from the platoon commander who he was supporting on the ground during the battle the letter describes the lives Donald's 2122 say that day emphasizing that he thought he would never make it home alive to see his new baby girl that was born while he was on that deployment November 2012 Navy fighter pilot was asked to apply a Navy excuse me Navy fighter weapons school most of which you may know uh by name as Top Gun while humbled and honored he turned it down he focused on his beautiful bride after being gone for two consecutive appointments resulting in my opinion one of the strongest marriages that exist today August 2014 Navy
015fighter pilot is informed he was selected to be world famous Navy flight demonstration sadr known as US Navy January 2021 maybe fighter pilot was select to be part of the fourar general combat man staff he then found himself in meetings with the great nation's most senior leadership to include the joint staff Secretary of Defense and Madam vice president March 2021 na fighter pilot is informed he select to take charge and take command of the 12 JF 18 Squad 242 personel and their families in scort of the combat deployment the Squadron will later receive the recognition of the Navies number one Fighter Squadron while he is in command the list of these stories I know you gu they're about me they're just a small action experiences I've been blessed with since leaving sedan High School I
016came from walking these hallways that you all do every day working in places like Hillcrest Farms sedan golf course and flid Supermarket to even to then have been afford the opportunity to land on eight different aircraft carriers visit 34 countries and nearly all 50 states no exaggeration just a few short days ago literally got home uh that's why I have a red eye little uh crazy week before I get here so I swear I'm not sick but just a few no exaggeration just a few short days ago my team and I were out preparing for deployment upcoming deployment this late summer we were established 200 miles off the coast of New York in Miami operating aboard the USS areas Truman flying on thecraft uh practice missions and exercises while just a few days ago the
017flight condition conditions consisted of Pitch Black Knights overcast Skies rain with plus or minus 12T pitching deck and now I'm right here before you today and one of the most impactful places in my life at a cityan high school and I want you guys to understand that I'm not saying these things to boast or to out of arrogance or to brag but let you know that anything is possible in this world can truly put your mind to it I have absolute Vivid memories sitting in these exact same seats which I alluded to earlier 22 years ago I'll be it full of hopes and dreams and I'm sure of left the future held eager to Take On The World I wanted to be something bigger than myself change lives and support greatness in our society that
018being said the road ahead will be filled with twists turns challenges and triumphs heartbreaks and victories through it all you must remember that you have the power to shave your own destiny to forge your own path to make a difference in this world and never and never forget to pack these experiences away as you move forward to better those alongside you and behind you use your experiences to bring others up the mountain with you and I ask you today make challenge I charge you all today when you leave San high school and you do your first year in college your first year work whatever you decide to do to make an impact at least in one life over the next year and that's simple leading by example and coming up with your priorities in life
019all right I people ask me every single day uh why I continue to do this why I continue to spend nine months away with my family why I continue to Flying combat and um have this crazy lifestyle and it's not about flying it's it's not about going out and doing dog flighting with a new brand new lieutenant going Toe to Toe with him and humbling it's none of that stuff it's all about the people it's all about the people and making impacts in their lives the average age of people that work for me right now are somewhere between 19 and 22 years old turn rges on our aircraft and that's why I'm here to impact their lives and help change them and Forge and help Forge a future for them and that's truly why I
020do it and I want you guys to think about that and again I'll charge you over the next year from this day to make it a difference at least one person's life any questions about that in N years is maybe firp I've learned many lessons I believe are wor sharing the te today and um there's four of them four big ones and uh the number one uh lesson I want to impart on you is do what I do because I've accomplished a few things is put God first my personal Foundation of Christ is the only explanation there is for societ in such dangerous Dynamic environment not only in my career as a husband and a father the moment of time away from my family it is divine en has kept my marriage strong my relationships
021sorry I get joke up per time but my relationships with my children so close Christ is put people in my life perfect time to bridge the gaps of adversity and providing a mentorship for me so put your full heart into Christ tuck your house shoes under your bed each and every night and every morning you get up get on your needs to pick them up and pray pray every day like you for last and I assure you your life will be changeed forever and immediately number two this was a big one attitude all right attitude when leading your life there are things in my opinion that are you are absolutely control for Success the first one is your attitude as you navigate the uncertain Waters of your future you must have the courage to take
022risk to step outside your comfort zone and pursue your passions an unwavering determination is a positive outlook attitude is a single thing that will energize drive and most importantly fuel momentum positive momentum is your best friend negative momentum can be your worst enemy momentum is the force that will Propel you for is greater than the sum of all your leadership strategy and resources combined creating momentum is like launching a rocket momentum is ignited by Vision your personal action statement so figure that out what your personal action statement is momentum is the activate is activated by belief and Faith you are called to a position for a reason and you must have this faith of belief without it you will stagnate you can make excuses or you can make progress but you cannot do both momentum
023is supported and system implementing processes in your everyday life to figure out in and finally a positive attitude that drives momentum and sustained by good oldfashioned grit remember it takes a positive attitude courage to chase your dreams to stand up for what you believe in and never Sate less which brings me to point number three grit there is a lady by the name of Miss Angela Duckworth a well well-known entrepreneur scholar and author of multiple books she has instituted multiple studies on individual success and most recently she did a study in p in professional Olympic excuse me Olympic athletes and professional athlet excuse me Olympic and professional athletes IV League professors 4un 500 company Founders military leaders and CEOs trying to pinpoint what exactly is the commonality of each individual of these high performing individuals
024most of you will probably think the success comes from a high level of intelligence more commonly known as IQ or some of you might think you must have money to make money all of your assumptions are OPP incorrect the studies showed the commonality of all these participants is good oldfashioned rolling up your sleeves hard work I Tre grit you must be compelled by a white hot Vision that is so intense that produces a GI grit that won't quit however with hard work you must have resilience the ability to bounce back to thrive the face of diversity so how do we grow our resilience goes back to number one excuse me number two added to it start with it starts with your mindset you need a mindset and know success is incredibly difficult at every corner
025you will run into opposition I assure you I've ran around I've ran into opposition even to this day every single week success will be a thrill and it will be a burden and in fact achieving success isn't simultaneously the greatest gift anual greatest burden you're probably arting right finally as I open with finally as I open with one of the most important Lessons Learned in my years as a Navy figh pilot which brings me to number four is a power of relationships and Community cherish your friends your family your teachers and your mentors for they are the ones who lift you up when you fall who will celebrate your victories who will always be there for you no matter what to this day me and my buddies of which are some of them are in
026this crowd from this very high schol communicate come together hang out on a consistent basis as they walked it today folks like Robbie Miller and hun Lucas Kenzie Jamie sitting right behind me all kinds of folks like that that I continue to communicate to this day and it's extremely important you don't take those relationships for granted of which some of them uh none of this and keep in mind excuse me um none of us uh and remember none of us can succeed alone we all need the support guidance and love those around us to reach our for potentially class of 2024 I want you look to the left look to your rights around us as I said before the only reason I stand before you today is because of these people in this room the
027people that bridge the gaps in my life and I needed me the most for my parents is my close friends some of the teachers here today are the very ones that supported me since I was a kid until now affording me again this opportunity to be here relationships is what life is about iron sharpens iron your relationships is your life team class 2024 as you embark on a new chapter your Liv remember that the sky is a lmit want you to dream big work hard stay true to your Val values and never lose sight of who you are and where you come from from today remember I want you take away the Big Four Points putting God first attitude true git in relationships remember you're in control of all this all right always remember that

042the wait room where determination met steel and during par meets while pacing back and forth before every lift it reminded me that my strength comes from something stronger than myself it wasn't just In the Heat of competition that these words carried me they were a light and the Darkness Shin brightly when stress and shadows threaten to overwhelm me during late night study sessions and moment moments of doubt I can do all things with Christ who strengthens me was the only thing that brought peace to my anxious mind we have all had those dark times haven't we times when the test appeared impossible when personal struggles seemed too much to bear yet in each other's company we found light and laughter we have seen each other at our lowest shared vulnerabilities and lift at each other
