And as for student council, we are still preparing for the region I conference. The theme is finding rhythm and leadership and teamwork. And last but not least, um we have our minthon benefit dance which will be taking place on Saturday, January 31st. That is all I have. Thank you. >> Thanks so much, Ma. I really appreciate the report in this uh rather unusual format for this evening. So, thank you. >> Um Mrs. Sid, I believe you have uh something
to share. This is board appreciation this month and there is a student presentation that was put together by our middle school, I believe. >> Yes, that is correct. I'd like to invite Mrs. Kig uh just to speak a few words before we play the video. >> Hi, good evening everyone. Um the middle school just really wanted to take our time to recognize our school board um during schoolboard appreciation month. Both our student council and our studio um worked hard to kind of bring this vision that they had um to life. And I know with the lead of Brenn Reichenbach who probably would have done a wonderful job presenting tonight um we do have a short video to share with you. So, please enjoy this and know that not only the middle school um but truly
everyone in the district appreciates everything that the school board does for our school community. So, thank you and just hoping that everything will work with this. Here we go. Oh, that is not working. >> Environment better. >> I think uh it organizes [music] stuff. >> I also think it makes the learning environment better. >> Makes rules so that [music] you be organized. >> The school board helps everyone stay on task and plan. >> I think the [music] school board controls important decisions made for schools. us and keep our school safe. >> They vote [music] for rings for the school. >> Mr. Fon, thank you for guiding [music] our district. >> Thank you, >> Dad. And more importantly, thank you for being a great mom. Best [music] I could ever ask for. >> Hey, thank you for providing us with educated teachers. >> Thank you, Dad. Dad, thank you for supporting us [music] with the arts. >> Thank you, >> Mr. Shields. Thank you for supporting our clubs. >> Thank you, Dad, for using your time and your effort to make the school a better place. We all appreciate you. >> Thank
you. We appreciate you being on the school board because it helps the community and we all appreciate you as students. >> THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO to support our district. [music] >> Thank you, Mrs. Kanig, and our middle school students for putting that together. >> Yes, that was outstanding. >> Thank you for that. Yes, thank you very much. >> Thanks, Beth. >> So, we have we have some other things that uh we will present to the board once we're together again uh from other buildings within the district and uh our administrative team as well. So, we will continue to support board appreciation, but it is it is heartfelt. I know how hard all of you work and uh sometimes it can be a thankless job, but it is important. So, thank you. Um, and
then Mrs. Site, we have Glay Elementary School's little Zephers of the Month recognition. >> Yep. Mrs. Menure is here to present that. I'm going to just get that for us. >> While Mrs. Tel is getting that up, I just wanted to say thank you to the school board and district leadership who welcome and encourage student participation at the meetings. It is my distinct pleasure to present to you Gakley's first grade little zephers of the month for the months of September through December. Our first grade students are highlighted this evening because of their ability to share what each character trait means to them. I was proud to work with the families so the students could produce a beautiful quilt that will hang in our school. Each student received a paper quilt square and worked with their
family to visually represent what their character trait means to them. The quilts will be hung in our school on the first grade floor as a display of our commitment to teaching the profile of a zephr traits. The profile of a zephr connection. So a whiteall education we know is more than learning about content. Our dedicated faculty and staff enrich our students character. In an effort to build these durable skills, the district teaches the profile of Zephr traits in grades K through 12. Our commitment to creating graduates of Whiteall that have the capacity to handle work and life as productive citizens starts at home and continues with us. We are proud to present these students to the community. Next slide. Mrs. Sleep. These are at the beginning of each month. So you'll see these are their
September responsibility students. At the beginning of each month, the teacher in each class delivers a brief lesson describing the profile of a zephr trait of focus. At the end of every month, the teachers nominate one student from their room to be honored as the little zephr of the month. This student consistently embodies the competencies of that trait. And then next slide will show our responsibility video. Oh, there should be some sound on it. [laughter] >> You're not hearing the sound. >> No, >> sorry. Hold on one second. >> Do that again. Responsibility [clears throat and cough] is >> clean up every >> learn >> follow directions of your parents and teachers. In October, the district's profile of his effort traits focus was on empathy. Next slide. Then November brought our little zappers to learn about
leadership and communication. Next song. >> Helping a new student in class. >> Taking turns in the game. >> To finish the first half of the school year, adaptability was the focus for December. Adoptability is >> going with the flow, noting when something goes wrong, >> loving a new baby at home. >> On behalf of Mrs. Sailor and myself, I would like to thank the families for working with us and entrusting us with their children, our dedicated teachers and staff who work with our Whiteall children daily and the administration from all of our school buildings for their collaboration with the profile of the Zephyr efforts. A personal thank you to our school secretaries and our school counselor, Mrs. Elise Moore, for their help in honoring our students each month and the creation of this presentation. I'd
like to invite the members of the board and district leadership to view our little zephr of the month display case and quilts when you are able to come for a visit. Thank you for your attention to these exceptional students. >> Thank you so much, Mrs. Menure. >> Thank you. >> That was outstanding. Thank you, Mrs. Menure. That's really, really awesome. I love that. Thank you. >> Moving along in recognitions, I did want to make mention and Maya mentioned it earlier um about our high school hosting county chorus this year. There were eight different schools spent two days within our building learning various piece of music, various pieces of music for their performance on January 15th. And I believe that like learning those pieces was like from scratch. So just an incredible amount of hard work
and dedication over those two days. really awesome to have hosted it. Um I know Miss Craft had invited me to be there. I unfortunately was out of town, but um just just outstanding stuff and I wanted to make sure that we made mention of that. Community donation. We want to thank Amry Cement Company and its employees for their generous donation of 20 holiday food baskets which were distributed to our families. And I would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the following donors for their continued support of our families um affected by the devastating fire at Maryland Circle. Whiteall Rotary, the Miadu Memorial Foundation, Whiteall Lions Club, Chick-fil-A Community Bank, and many anonymous donors from our staff and the community. Thank you for your generosity during what was an extremely difficult time. I'm sure there are
many, many more people we could thank there, but uh very very appreciative of the community coming together to help families in needs during that terrible fire. >> Thank you, Mr. Schiffford. U moving on. Uh Mr. Malay, do we have any correspondence to the board? Yes, I received a card from the Doug Harvey family. I will share this when uh we're together again. >> Thank you. Uh moving on to public [clears throat] participation. We'll move forward public participation. We have come to the portion of the meeting providing an opportunity for public comment. The board will follow the procedures established in policy 9003. public comment and board meetings which which is accessible through our district website. This time is designated for district residents, employees, students, and taxpayers to comment on the items listed for action or deliber
deliberation at tonight's meeting. All individuals wishing to request uh to comment this evening must have completed the document it designated for request to comment and submitted the document to the board. s to the board secretary prior to the start of the meeting. Each commentator will pre preface their commitments by announcing their name and if applicable group affiliation. For those who have submitted a request to speak from the prior to the start of the meeting, I will call your name and ask you please come forward to the microphone. You will have three minutes to provide comments to the board and uh Mrs. Solite will certainly monitor that. Uh I have I have a list uh which I will start with um I will identify them and um if they are here uh Mrs. Cite will then
allow them in. Uh the first one first person we have is Aaliyah Cartenega. Mrs. >> I do not see her on. >> Okay. U Mr. Adam Schiffki, >> he is on. So, Mr. Schffniski, I am adding you to be able to unmute your microphone. You should now be able to unmute your microphone. >> Yes, thank you. Uh can you hear me? Okay. >> Yes. >> Uh yes. Uh you know, I think we're all aware of the uh snowstorm outside and so I I had sent a message to Mr. Schiffer uh regarding the use of the asynchronous learning day uh today. I believe there's another one tomorrow. um you know, hearken me to reminding me of of 2020. Uh when I saw my poor children trying to learn from home and just saw what a what
a terrible experience that was and how we took every opportunity to have my children in the classroom because real learning was taking place there. Um, I think of other kids that have IEPs or special needs. It's just to me, um, I do appreciate that Mr. Tippert responded to me quickly and appropriately, but I'll tell you that safety was one of the three points. The other two points were administrative in nature. What I didn't hear from Mr. Shippert was how this benefits our children. sounded to me like scheduling and compliance and financial reasons why that we uh are doing asynchronous learning. I I don't believe it provides any value. Of course, I you know my education is in business and not in education. Um I have close family members that are in education. Their district chose
a different route today. So, you know, I just wanted to share my concerns as a parent, lifelong Whiteall resident, and taxpayer. Um, let's use these asynchronous days when we have to. Uh, today wasn't a great day to use it. Tomorrow would have made sense to me. I It doesn't provide the value in education. If anybody wants to let me know why I'm wrong there, um, but honestly, it just felt like uh administrative burden. So, let's do asynchronous. So, I just wanted to uh to put my voice out there. I appreciate the time. Thank you so much for hearing me, but I just wanted to put it out there that I for one don't really care for asynchronous learning. I don't think it provides the same value. Um I think most of us know that. So,
thank you. >> Thank you, Mr. Shafniski. Um, next person we have to speak is u Manoa Mano Manau Darwish. Do we have Mrs. >> She is not on the call. >> Okay. Um, next per Maria Ortiz. >> Uh, she is on the call. >> Okay, just a moment. >> [clears throat and cough] >> Miss Ortiz, you should be able to unmute now. >> Unmute. >> Hello. Um, well, I'm Maria. Um, this is Saya. I just simply just wanted to say thank you to everybody that's actually been working with Saya. Um it's it's been very appreciated from the dad as well as myself. Um without you guys, I mean I know we play a big role in her life and her obviously as parents and making sure she has to do whatever she has to do,
but you guys play a big role as well because without you guys we won't have this recognition today. So, I we just wanted to thank you all like deeply for everything you guys do for the kids in the school as what like my daughter and just making sure she's learning what she has to be learning. >> Thank you. Um, moving along. Susan Cascus. Renee. >> I do not believe she is on the call. >> Okay. Mrs. C. Moving to Tina Gorman. >> I also do not see Miss Gorman. >> Okay. I do have some comments from all of our buildings and our TLT team and special ed team. Um at the high school after successfully concluding the first semester, our students are really poised to start the second term um with updated schedules. The school is launching comprehensive course selection process for the 2627 school year and students will engage in uh midyear or excuse
me one-on-one counselor meetings so they can really shape their high school courses and the faculty are engaging in their mid-year professional reflections to ensure they're meeting their personalized learning goals. And seniors are, this is where we look at how they're uh embarking on their final semester as they get to the end of their high school careers and prepare for commencement. It's pretty exciting when you think about that. Middle school, the winter weather has provided perfect conditions for our upcoming eighth grade field trips to Blue Mountain. This unique and free opportunity allows our students to receive professional lessons and experience skiing or snowboarding, many for the very first time. Meanwhile, winter sports sessions are starting to come to an end and be wrapping up in the next few weeks. Uh we want to acknowledge how proud
we are of their commitment our student athletes have shown during their busy this busy season. On the academic front, we are eager to analyze our midyearl data at the end of the month. We look forward to celebrating the significant growth our students have achieved and working with them to set ambitious ambitious goals for the second semester. At Zephyr, students and staff kicked off the second half of the year with their minute to win it activities to reinforce Bee's expectations in the Zephr gym with Mr. Johnson. This month, we also completed middle of the year math and reading benchmarking, and the Zephr staff is excited to focus their efforts on new target areas to drive student growth throughout the remainder of the year. Later this month, we plan to celebrate student success during the second marking
period with Winter Olympics themed reward activities on January 30th. Additionally, our fourth graders are preparing for a February 9th trip to the Da Vinci Science Center where they will explore electricity and the scientific process through hands-on shock and awesome and super coolness workshops that perfectly align with our revamped science curriculum. At STECLE, teachers and students have been diligently working through their middle of the year benchmarking tests. Results are beginning to come in and students are showing tremendous growth. Teachers and staff have been engaged in data conversations to take a deeper dive into their class data and to strategically plan for instruction. Um the collaboration day we had for that purpose on January 14th was a great time to work together. profile of a Zephyr trait for the month of January is confidence. Uh we hosted
grade level lessons in the pit to teach this trait and have also incorporated many lessons and reminders throughout the building to reinforce the importance of being confident and having a positive growth mindset heading into the middle of the school year. Our students enjoyed New Year's resolutions lessons with the middle school NJHS students. There were wonderful mentors. They were, excuse me, wonderful mentors for our second and third graders at Gawkley. They want to make sure they thank the PTO Plus for hosting a pizza party with the principal, which was the reward for our top fundraisers. The students participated in a Pete the Cat readaloud with Mrs. Sailor while they were enjoying their pizza, and they received some extra prizes. On the way back to the classrooms, they found a hidden Pete the Cat in the library.
Gley is holding its SWS booster this week. Lessons are being reviewed and the students and staff will participate in a pep rally on Friday. We're also starting a new classroom incentive program which will be unveiled during the assembly. From our TLT department, a collaboration session, as mentioned, was held during the afternoon of January 14th in which all K through 12 teams and departments across the district came together. Highlights of the afternoon focused on strengthening teaching, learning, and instruction. Educators engaged in curriculum mapping and updates preparing for ELA implementation for next school year. Ensured alignment and rigor, engaged in special ed updates and best practices, focused on state standards updates, and collaborated with in special areas to identify clear outcomes that best support classroom practice. Through shared dialogue and collaboration, teams refined priorities, aligned instructional approaches,
and completed actionable steps to enhance student learning across the district. And finally, from our special ed department, we wish to um talk about our compliance update. As a result of recent special ed compliance monitoring, the district had been operating under corrective action. We received formal notification last week from PTE confirming that all cited areas of non-compliance have been fully corrected and our corrective action has been officially closed. This outcome reflects the dedicated work of our special ed team and supports our continued commitment to compliance and service for students with disabilities. That is great news. That is it from me, Mr. Fonzone. Thank you very much. >> Thank you, Mr. Shiffford. >> [clears throat] >> takes us to other matters and information. The school directors would like to acknowledge the ten granting of tenure to Mr.
Joseph Egan at the Whiteall High School. We also acknowledge the field trips listed on the agenda. Are there any other comments from the board or administrative staff? >> Bill 14, the meeting dates. >> I'm sorry about that. I'm looking right at them. Uh the meeting dates, Monday, February 19th uh for at four o'clock for the committee meetings and Monday, February 23rd at 7 o'clock for the regular board meeting. >> At that point, >> that's February February 9th. >> February. >> Yeah, I think you said 19th. >> Mr. Fonzone, I would like to make one more comment. I just want to uh give a special thanks to Mrs. Cit and some of our tech folks. I know Mr. Weer and um Mr. Staer, probably some others involved in there, put a lot of time and effort
into making sure that we were prepared to host a virtual meeting tonight. And I would say all in all, it went fairly well. Uh so it's good to know that we can accomplish that, but it was not done without a lot of hard work and preparation. So thank you to those folks. >> Thanks to everybody. Um thanks to everybody for showing up and making attempt to be on here. Um, and for the first time we did this, I thought it went off very well. Um, I'm looking at this point for a motion to adjurnn. >> Don't lie to me. >> So moved. >> Who was that? >> He beat me to it. >> Who was for who? Who? So moved. >> So moved. >> And And was that Seth? >> Yeah. >> All right. Seth
and Fattie. So at that point, please drive carefully. Um, the roads aren't the greatest yet. Be safe. Thank you for attending and we'll see you at our February 9th meeting. >> Thank you everyone. Have a great >> meeting is adjourned. All right, everybody.
