Welcome to CHS podcast. I'm with Lucas and Alex. We're going to talk about Market Day. Yes. We are. Uh, so what's being sold? Um, there are a lot of things that are being sold. Um, there's cake pops, uh, there's wings. Um, someone's making a stew, they're making someone else make mac and cheese. Um, I'm trying to think what else is there. Um, I want to say someone's making cookies, something like that. Um, I think that's it, really. Or at least that I know of. Oh, and burgers, burgers. People are making burgers. Uh, where and when is it being? Uh, Market Day will be on the, uh, in the cafeteria on April 23rd of 2026. 2026. Thank god it's not 2027, or else we would have to wait a while. >> Yeah. Uh, what did you

sell, uh, last semester, last year, for both of you? >> I'll let you start, Lucas, cuz I have to say a lot. All right. Um, we sold milkshakes, and then we poured Monster Energy Drink in them. Did it bring all the boys to the yard? I think so. I think so. There were There were a lot of There were a lot of people there, um, of the boy variety. All right, Lucas. And also Allison. Allison was also there. Ah, okay. I'll take it away. So, we started with the idea of making sliders. Um, I feel like that was everybody's idea, though. A lot of people, like their first idea is either sliders. And then we were like, we didn't want to be basic. So, it was me, Teagan Litton, and Molly Graves, and we decided,

you know, if we're going to do something, let's do like walk-in tacos. So, let's do like make-your-own tacos. So, we did that. We made posters. Our mascot was LeBron James. And, I mean, it worked. We went to Sam's Club, we got a whole bunch of food, a whole bunch of stuff. And then we came back, and on Market Day, we figured we were going to get like a few people like maybe like five people. Dude, like it was we packed we made like $300 that day. It was insane. We ended up like running out second lunch cuz obviously blocks there's one, two, three. We ran out second lunch and we had to like improvise. We had to use like a little meat and people were coming back for like six plates, eight plates. Like it

was insane. It was there's a lot. Maybe for people who want to do market place mar who are doing market day should not should limit people so they don't run out of things so fast. >> Yeah, but that's the thing is like when we started we used a lot of ingredients for each one cuz we wanted to make it good and then by like the midway through second lunch we were like we need to like stop. We should have bought more, yeah. Uh what advice would any of you give for people who are about to do market day? Um don't put your like this is going to sound weird. Don't like put yourself out there. Just let people come to you. If you have a good product, people are going to buy from you. It's

not like Yeah, you can like like take take milkshakes for example. Um or actually no, take Will's mac and cheese for example. He hyped it up. He hyped it up so much that when people ate it, if somebody didn't like it at all, they were done. With ours like with with my tacos or whatever, if somebody didn't like it like but we didn't like we were like oh we're making tacos so you know like we kind of did our own thing and then I think I think that helped a lot because it also allowed people to like and also help your competition. We had a few stands next to us. We gave money to. We helped fight and that also helped cuz they ended up coming to our stands. And so yeah, just have fun

with it. It's not it's it sounds like a competition. It's really not. Just do your own thing. Yeah, like there was a lot of people that um worked together. I feel like like they helped other businesses out during market day. Um I know I'm I'm pretty sure there's going to be a couple like alliances during this market day. And >> There also was some wars, too. That That was true. Um a few people were like throwing shade. And another thing, I don't know if people know this on market day, you're allowed to announce stuff. So, like you're allowed to be like, "Hey, you know, there's a deal for the about the end of this lunch you get like a dollar off." Like you're allowed to say that. Um but it really just depends. And then

also pricing. Um a lot you make sure your prices are good. Yeah. Um a lot of people will upcharge if you don't have a lot. That's what we did. We were selling for like seven for two and then we ended up selling like 13 for one. Like it it got really bad, yeah. Yeah. Um I I'm honestly I'm not sure what the prices are looking like this year, but it's definitely a lot I feel like a lot more affordable than last year. Yeah. Well, last semester it was pretty bad cuz nobody really knew what to do. Like people were charging milkshakes for like six bucks. And like it sounds good, but when you realize it's a little red cup, it's it gets pretty bad. Yeah. You said milkshakes? Oh, I'm sorry, Lucas. Is that Is

that What are you selling? Yeah, I feel like market day is going to be a lot more affordable this semester than last semester. Like I'm can't quite remember the prices, but there haven't been any that I was like, "Okay, this is absurd." You know? >> It also I guess it depends on the food, too. Like the better the food, the higher the prices you're going to have. Um but yeah, that's that's a good that's a good take, yeah. Yeah. I agree. >> uh Mr. Ray is the one who like He's the one who arranges it, yeah. Does he help you manage prices and things? >> So, he gives us a like a diagram kind of thing. He gives you the sets and then you have to do everything else yourself. Which makes it so much

more fun cuz once you finish market day, you're like, "Dang, I did a lot." Um I feel like if Mr. Ray did it for you, it would still be fun, but it would be kind of boring cuz you wouldn't be able to do as much as you could. >> You would take away less if he just helped you and gave you everything. Cuz yeah, you have to market your prices. You have to That's why like the cool thing about it is you have to set your prices. You can't just be like, you know, I'm going to do hamburgers for five bucks. You have to do the what you're paying for, how much you're using of what you're paying for into the total price. This is a whole thing. This is a big mathematic thing. But,

it's pretty fun. Uh you call it cogs, I believe. >> cogs? Yeah, that's right. What I meant by like what you take away is like you like what you mentally learn. >> Money. Yeah. We take away money. Sounds about right. >> Yes, from Yeah, I guess if yeah, okay. Um well, what are you excited to see? What are you excited to see, Lucas? Um hmm. I'm excited to see the value of good labor. Good the the good labor. Child labor. Yeah. Yeah. I'm actually excited to see So, last semester, I'll start I'll stop talking about last semester in a little bit, but we There was a lot of sweets. Like it I think there was like three stands that didn't do anything super sweet. Um I'm excited to see like some actual food. Like I

think that's what a lot of people are going to put their money on cuz nobody wants to go to lunch and get just cupcakes. I want to go to lunch and get like a chicken sandwich and then go get some cupca Like I feel like that is definitely going to change a lot this year. Yeah. Right. >> Mhm. Was that Was that >> Me, too. Yeah. Appreciate it. Well, um >> I was not listening to a single thing he said. Go on. Well, I mean, I agree. Like going to lunch, you're supposed to eat lunch, not straight sugar. No, I'm sure some people are just going to be like, you know what, cut straight to the snacks, but I Yeah, Jake back there, you know. People might just get lunch then like stop by the

store. >> mad last year is we set our prices lower. That's what we actually did is Whoa, another thing you should do. If you're doing market day, try to set your prices lower than the all the cart prices. So, people like drinks and sodas, all the cart their tea is like what, $2? I think so. Yeah, I've never Believe it or not, in >> my four years of high school, I have never gone to all the cart. Oh. Well, I was going to say, what you can do is set it lower than the all cart prices. So, there's a point to just go to you instead of going to all cart, this whole thing. >> Yeah. Yeah. I think it's it's a lot better. Um anyway, sorry. Continue. What what were we talking about? It

was the It was What you're excited to see. Oh, yeah, excited to see. So, yeah, just actual food, not sweets. I guess the big thing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I think we kind of wrapped everything up. I mean, is there anything else on there? Nope. No? Um Well, yeah. I'm excited for Market Day. I hope y'all are excited for Market Day. Bring money. There's going to be a lot of food. >> April 23rd. Yeah, April 23rd. Bring a lot of money. I'm pretty sure they'll have Venmo and like Apple Pay and stuff, but still I would yeah, cash is probably going to be your best best option. Um Yeah, guys, make sure you come to uh Market Day. And make sure you bring cash cuz some people I've heard that don't accept like uh PayPal

or Cash App or anything. They just accept cash. So, make sure you bring some of that, too. >> Yeah. All right. Peace out. Have a good day. See you.
