tonight and for um interviewing before this board. We are now the time for public hearing. We will call on Upper Derby School District residents who signed in to address the board in the order in which they signed in, followed by emailed and phone comments. We would ask that you come to the come forward, give your name and address and present your comments in the threeminut time limit. In accordance with policy 903, the time allotted for general comments both in person and submitted comments will not exceed one hour. >> Mr. Jamal Austin. >> Good evening everyone. Um, sorry for my appearance. You know, would have came here, you know, dressed a little bit more to the park, but I just want to thank Diamond Gibbs. Um she was a former student of mine. Very proud to
be witness to here to her um to be a part of the board. Um my reason for coming today to address the board is to thank everyone here as well as administration for all the work they do in the district. Um, as you recently know, my daughter was on the news and her story as well as my son's story is a story of every student in this community and the good work that the people here do. My daughter's story does not happen without the people in this room and the people who educate our students each and every day. I'm up here because I'm happy. I I want everyone that's in this room and outside of here to to feel the joy that I have to see my daughter get accepted to 22 schools and receive
over 2.2 million in scholarships as well as my son being accepted to 20 colleges and also receiving 1.4 million in scholarships as well is just the um is the story and the success that um the people in this community have done. I want to personally thank Dr. McGary. Um there are many others I can keep going on like to thank my former bosses over here, Mrs. Simone, Dr. Aone um for their work. Um I was speaking to uh Dr. Counsel and I shared with him recently that my daughter who was his uh second grade principal uh wrote a letter to him that I still have to this day, you know, thanking Dr. Dr. Counselor for all the work he's done. Um I can keep going on and on about the the wonderful things that happen
in this community. I also wanted to thank uh Rhonda Buford and her team for capturing that moment on TV. She actually um fixed my daughter's hair because I when we when the news cameras came that day, I was so um caught in the moment that I was about to let my daughter go on news with her hair all frazzled and and and in and you know in in disarray and uh Ronda pulled me to the side and said, "Austin, let me take take charge here and make sure that your daughter is right." So, that's the nature of my reasoning for being here is just to thank you all. Um, you've all elected an excellent team. Um, this doesn't happen without the work that y'all do and the teachers that uh teach our kids. Um, and
I just want to say thank you. >> Thank you. >> I want to personally congrat congratulate your daughter and your son. That's amazing. And I just want to piggyback that too uh on a segment of that. Um thank you for all that you poured into Upper Derby School District students when you were here as a teacher. Um mine in particular and what you give to our students is very similar to what shows what happens in your home, how you raise your children. So thank you. >> Are there any public any other public comments? >> There are none. >> Is there a motion for the adjournment of this meeting? >> So moved. >> Second. Meeting adjourn.
