USD 264 staff student parents stakeholders and anyone with uh watching us on YouTube today I appreciate the opportunity to come to you with our first superintendent update of 2025 I can't believe it's already February 1st uh we've had a what felt like a really long January with extended breaks uh hiccups with weather and just an enormous amount of sickness that was going through the district uh during that time but we appreciate everybody's patience appreciate everybody's understanding of all the decisions we have to make and we're looking forward to finishing off this second semeer uh strong so just like we do every month we start off with really just kind of looking at our strategic plan and the four goals that we have there and then understanding kind of hopefully that we can communicate why are
we doing what we do what are we actually going to do and then how are we actually going to achieve this so um this month we're really going to focus on updating uh some of the information that the board decided um and made decisions on in December in regards to our non-resident student enrollment and uh how that plays a role into our upcoming future uh nonacademic or non-resident uh enrollment status um so the what first off in December the board had to uh update their policy if they were going to make any changes and they didn't make any uh changes to their policy and then start working on updating their capacity limits for the 2526 school year um since the board decided they wanted to go with an unlimited capacity uh we are we are
not going to have to wait until May to determine that capacity so we went ahead and posted that information and also Reed our student good stand Standing policy which focuses on grades attendance and behavior um so in doing that we had to make the decision about the policy in December the board went ahead and made the policy about the capacity so that we could begin uh the process of accepting out of District enrollments um some of the reasons the board went from a conservative approach last year uh to this year was just a lot of the unknowns about how the law was going to happen what all uh was going to take place and as we found out there was only about 5% of students across the state of Kansas that actually um were a
part of this open enrollment plan that there was not much movement or much change also as part of this as we've looked in having unlimited capacity but using the student good standing uh policy to help um understand if if we can accept students or not it really took us back to what the USD 264 policy on open enrollment was prior to the start of this law so it really just took us back to where USD 264 felt comfortable and where we've always been is that we've accepted all students from out of District as long as they a student in good standing so how are we going to do this so if if you know someone or you're talking to someone and they are wanting to apply and go to school at USD 264 next year
have them go to the school website and go to the required uh uh required postings under the district information Tab and then they'll see non-resident student application linked there uh they need to print that off fill it out give all the information as accurate as possible and then uh mail that in or scan it email it to the central office and then they can go on and pre-register Via Power School pre-registration is not enrollment pre-registration just gathers a lot of that demographic information so when in time for enrollment happens um they are able to already have a lot of that data set up so it's it'll be a quicker and easier process from there uh we still have left to review the student records and score to the rubric and then notice notify the students
of their acceptance so that's the practice um that we will go through to get non-resident students the timeline of that is when this will all happen so starting January 1st that application is now live and we have to start accepting applications from January 1st to June 15th for all non-residents and this is again only students that are currently not living in USD 264 and currently not going to school in USD 264 so if you're a student or a parent that is going to school in USD 264 currently but live out of District you're in that uh you're already enrolled for next year and part of our count uh unless it's evaluated that you're no longer a student in good standing and then we'll not ify that by May 1 After we receive those applications we
have the um timeline through July 15th to review all of those student records and the applications then notify the parents after July 15th um of those acceptance which could happened before doesn't mean uh we have to wait till then it's just by the time we get all the information back uh we have to start notifying then then those students will enroll and then each year we will review those students who are in good standing uh or not whether they can maintain staying enrolled at USD 264 um so that is a little bit of an update real quickly on our current um non-resident student policy also our non-resident student application process again we're always wondering about how we can just be one degree more how can we get better 1% better each day uh so that
at the end of the year we're 365 per better than we were a year ago and having some of that compounded effects to be as great as we can be to help out all students and all staff again if you have any questions here's my contact information or if you'd like to schedule a visit to come in and visit about this or any other topic that you like please reach out and set up a time we're always looking forward to engaging with our community and with our stakeholders if not have a great day and we're looking forward to catching back up with you at the beginning of March
