001hello chris cooper superintendent of clearwater schools here with a brief update our school board had a special meeting last night to review some changes that have been brought about by senate bill 40 at the state level that bill is basically taking taking the covet 19 mitigation orders and mandates out of the hands of the health experts at the state and even local level and put them in the hands of our local school board so the board looked at a lot of information and recommendations last night some of that information was covered 19 level numbers at the state level county level zip code level and even our skill school a level level uh just what's been going on with our code 19 numbers for quarantines and positives they also receive recommendations from the cdc from the

002kansas department of health environment from the sedgwick county health department and from our local learning options team that has members of our community that are on the front lines in our local hospitals all of those recommendations said almost exactly the same thing and that is to stay the course to not drop our guard at this point in the game as far as covet 19 mitigation strategies so they also received information from a survey from the clearwater teachers association and a statement from them and some advice and thoughts from the administrative team after reviewing all that having much discussion uh the clearwater school board has taken no action to change anything so what that means is we're still under our navigating change return to learn plan that was adopted august 10th of 2020 so that does

003mean that we will maintain our current mitigation strategies of mass and social distancing temperature taking those things there are a few minor administrative edit edits that once the governor's order that's in place as of today drops that might change some we also anticipate that the governor will issue another similar order and we do have an agreement with our teachers association that we won't be less restrictive than a county or state order at the time it'll be a little more confusing because i don't believe she plans to issue an order just for schools it's more for businesses but anyway i just wanted to let everybody know where we're at and that we have no changes and a lot of the conversation is about not putting things in jeopardy this spring that students had to miss out

004on last spring we want students to finish the year academically strong we believe we've given our kids a leg up and the best education we can this year by being on site throughout the school year we want students to have the opportunity to go to prom to have a graduation with people in attendance to to do spring sports and all those things that we so look forward to and just don't want to do anything to put those things in jeopardy this spring so that's all i have for today i will uh if anything changes i will do my best to communicate that out to the community take care
