001hello chris cooper here with a brief update for clearwater schools on friday january 15th it is the end of our first semester so we're excited to wrap things up i know a lot of finals going on at the high school this week and we'll be headed into second semester next tuesday that's one of the things i wanted to remind you of is there's no school next monday january 18th no school for students or staff also i would like to remind you of a couple other calendar changes in two weeks from monday february 1st there'll also be no school for students we're going to utilize that as a staff development day and actually our staff will be getting some training from state level trainers on dyslexia and some about the science of reading so excited about

002some professional learning that our staff can get involved with on that day so a brief covet update our numbers are uh remain steady from about the middle of the week they're better than they were towards the end of last week so that's that's good news our school numbers are down to uh we have two positive students at this time and two positive staff members we still have a large number of students out for close contact and some for symptoms we have 57 students out at this time we have seen some strep and other non-coveted illnesses this week as well we have six staff out but we were able to get classes covered this week each day so that's good our winter activities are in full swing wrestling last night basketball tonight wrestling tomorrow but as

003always in this season there's lots of flexibility we just got word this afternoon that wellington's not going to be able to play boys basketball so i know mr elliott sent up some sent out some communication about the change in schedule just girls basketball tonight at wellington because wellington's not able to have their boys play while we're talking about activities i want to let you know uh we appreciate everybody uh following the guidelines that have been able to come that up to two parents to activities i've been to some of those games as a parent and appreciate people uh social distancing and wearing their masks doing the things that we need to do to continue on in that way the kansas activities association does have a meeting next wednesday and they're discussing the option of allowing

004up to four spectators per participant starting on january 29th 29th and honestly i don't have any idea how that's going to uh go at that meeting but uh just something to be aware of that we might be able to um loosen the restrictions for spectators just a little bit in the coming weeks i said not a lot today just a brief update i want to thank our staff and students for coming back and and starting after christmas break strong and just doing the things that we need to do so with that that's all i have for this week it's mr cooper signing off appreciate everything that everybody's doing to help keep our kids in school take care you
