hello chris cooper superintendent of clearwater schools i want to give you a brief update it's been a while since we've done that first of all this video link's accompanying an email if you've read the email i won't have a lot of different information in the video just wanted to provide the communication in more than one way we do have some good news and that is that the coven 19 cases in our county and in particularly in our zip code have trended down lately so that fits and aligns with our plan to start school september first on site every day so finally uh in 2020 something is going as we had hoped and that that is good news because it does look like we should not have any reason to not start school on site on
september 1st i want to remind you real quickly if you haven't enrolled your student if you would please do that as soon as possible so we know exactly who's coming we can get our detailed plans taken care of that would be great also along with that if you've typically used our bus service and this year you're going to choose to not use that we'd like to know that information too because we're in the process of designing routes trying to keep as few as students as possible on the buses but knowing that we're going to have several people on the buses as well so if you're not please let me know let your school office know that'd be great masks continue to be a topic of conversation not only in clearwater but across the state country
world we are our plan does include masks for all people entering the building that's part of the governor's order and cedric county health order so we would ask that students bring at least two mass per day because it's very likely that something could happen to one we will have disposable mouse masks available but are asking that parents provide two masks per student per day if that's possible the other thing with masks particularly with littler kids we'd ask that you start practicing wearing them for extended periods of time so start with a small period of time and then progressively wear it more until it becomes more of a habit or second nature something that the student is not messing with or thinking about all the time just growing more used to that i never thought i'd
be uh asking parents to do that but we we're in and never thought of time so would be great if you could help your students be more comfortable when we do start school by having them practice wearing masks our activities start monday august 17th so a lot of practices and different activities will be gearing up that day same health precautions are in place for those activities as for school so if you have any questions about that monday is a little late but um we are uh in the offices at the school so give us a call and find out what you need to find out we did have some temperature scanners come in today we've purchased some scanners for each building that actually read the temperature on the wrist it's very quick we were over
trying those out today in the tech department so because we do need to do screenings as students enter the building we're excited we have something we think will help with the logistics about that one of the things that saddens us is that we are going to have to limit parental visits to school to just essential visits that's not the type of culture or atmosphere we desire but it is the situation we're in right now so as you think about starting school and maybe some of our normal routines where we might have came in the building even walked our student down to the to the classroom for the for the littles um that's going to all be different unfortunately this year until things change so if you are considering visiting school we'd ask that you'd call
the office if at all possible some other good news our staff's been working hard we've had lots of trainings going on this week all kinds of staff in the buildings preparing for an amazing school year whatever may come so just know that we're very ready to get started in school we have a lot to do yet to prepare for that but our excitement is growing and we look forward to seeing everybody september 1st as i said just a brief update that's really all i have for today again don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions or to your school offices our offices are staffed at this time with that take care and i look forward to meeting everyone and having conversations with you in the future bye
