hello again chris cooper superintendent of clearwater school district i wanted to give you a quick update here on july 29th of some things that are happening in our school district first of all there's still lots of unknowns we have teams that are working on detailed plans for the classrooms the hallways cafeterias all those things that are still in process but there are several things as i said we do know first of all a calendar team has been putting together options for different start dates and different calendars for the year and what that might look like i wouldn't let you know that we have landed on september 1st as a start date pending board approval and so want to get people's plans going around that on september 1st what will school look like well at this
time we plan to provide on-site learning have all students on site with many health precautions first of all would follow the governor's order and the sedgwick county health department orders those include all all persons entering the school buildings uh wearing masks or face coverings health screenings including temperature checks prior to end of the building we're working out the logistics of that um social distancing when possible and frequent hygiene uh just as an overview there'll be lots of little details but that's that's the big part of that the other thing starting september first is uh we want you to know that you'll always have the option of remote learning and instruction from our uh staff in clearwater schools that will allow you to reintegrate quickly if if the situation changes where you feel like it's safe
for your students to be at school some of the new unique things or different things we did with the calendar first of all not only moving the start date but we moved several teacher professional development days to prior to the start of school so we can have that time to train on on the things that we need to do to be safe and also about what robust remote remote learning would look like so we have high academic standards there as well we also moved parent teacher conferences prior to the start of school and that might sound a little strange but our goal is that we can have a personal conversation with each family about what school is going to look like what the expectations are whether you're on site or remote and answer any questions
concerns and also to learn about your child because no one knows that person better than you do i also want to address the kansas high school activities association yesterday took no action on changing any of their plans so august 17th is a practice start date for our activities right now that's with health precautions and um we will still have some competitions most likely that we'll move around because there are other schools that we play that may not be starting until after labor day and so if we were scheduled to play them prior to labor day that competition may get canceled or postponed moved to a different date as i mentioned we're still working on our learning plans we are monitoring health data mainly through the schedule county uh covet dashboard it has data down to
our zip code so that's the best data that i've been able to find to base any of our health decisions on and we're continuing to have consultation with them a meeting in the morning with a pediatric association and the wichita area to hear what their recommendations are and do the best we can to ensure the safety of all while also providing a high quality education to all so just in summary september first start date for school pending board approval that will be on site or if you choose a remote learning we will be providing more updates as more information becomes available appreciate many of the the calls and emails as always reach out to me if you would like to my email is ccooper usd264.org look forward to meeting each of you having conversations and
figuring out uh what what works best for clearwater as we move forward take care you
