Hello. This video is going to show you how to fill out your eighth grade scheduling form. Let's start start by filling out the front of the form. First, fill out your last name and your first name. And the due date, which you will turn into your science class, is March 12th. The next section of this form is core classes. So you will see four core classes and pick one from each of the four sections. Math 8 or algebra. Algebra is a honors class and all honors classes are accelerated. They move faster. They have a larger workload. It's important to be aware of that if you're selecting algebra or any of the honors courses. It's also important for you to know that algebra is a high school credit class. What that means is even though you're
only going into 8th grade, you will still receive high school credits for passing algebra. It's a requirement for graduation. So, you can get a head start um for high school credit by taking algebra. However, it is not recommended that you take algebra if you haven't had honors math 7. There's a gap between honors math 7 and algebra. I'm sorry, regular math 7 and algebra. If you're not sure if you should take algebra or any of the other honors classes, please talk with your parents and your teachers of that subject to pick your course that's appropriate for you. So, math or algebra, language arts or honors, language arts, science or honor science, social studies or honor social studies. Okay. So, now we're going to move on to electives and alternates. Health is marked for you on
this form. It is a required elective in 8th grade unless you are taking two full year elective electives such as band and choir or Spanish and web. On the back of this form, there is a list of electants you can choose from. Next to the electives their name, there is a space that has the abbreviation try. That stands for trimester. There are several electives that are three trimesters, which means it's a full year class, such as Spanish. Spanish is being typed into box four, five, and six because that is a full year class. There are others that are one trimester like art and health and mythology. Now, down here in electives, it's really important that you pick classes that you would still be interested in taking if the electives that you chose one through six
are not available. So, please make sure you look through the courses on the next page and write your choices in appropriately. A few things about electives that's really important for you to know is that Spanish one, like that's typed in on the form. Spanish one is similar to algebra in that it is a full year and it gives you high school credit. So, it's really important to think about um Spanish if you really want to take it in 8th grade. It will count like algebra for credits for high school. Okay. It's also really important for you to know that when you are sk when we are scheduling courses, if you are taking a full year class, you will not be able to drop a full year class during the school year. We understand that sometimes
classes don't work out. However, when you make a commitment to a fullear class, it is expected that you will finish that class um for after taking it for the full year. And then if you don't want it the following year, you can change it. Then at the bottom of this form, your parent needs to sign and date and so do you. And um you need to turn this in, like I said, by March 12th to your science teacher. We will also go over on March 12th with you how to enter your requests into Powers School. On March 12th, we will enter your your requests into Powers School. If you are not at school that day, we will have a makeup day on March 13th. If you are not available on that day for some reason,
this video along with how to schedule your classes in P school will be available on our school website. Thank you. Have a good day.
