Yes, we have representatives here from uh First National Bank of East Texas. as they do each year, they are very kind uh to several of our students and they donate uh five Chromebooks to five different students. And

003uh so I'm going to ask them to come forward and make that presentation tonight. >> We've got one that they said would not be here today. So Mr. Glover We do we do this every year try to help Mount Vernon and a couple of the other rural schools out and then some of the other location pick up other so we donate approximately I want to say around 45 of these a year. >> Oh wow. >> Different schools. So we go to Gilmore, we go to Indiana, we go to Woodland, we go to >> and so it's a, you know, a unique opportunity for me to come in and get to address you and young people. Uh so if this helps one of you move forward into the next level, then we're all for it. It

004helped you do the work in day school while you're still here. I'm all for that, too. All right. So, I am I am an Aggie. So, but I am okay. And so, I'm a big proponent of children going to the next level for secondary education or I'm a big proponent of going to a secondary grade school, whichever one fits you. Not everybody's college person. Not everybody likes that. And I'm just glad to be a part of it. So, for those of you that are young people, Megan and I both work at the bank. She works side by side with me every day. Keep me straight. Make sure I do what I supposed to do. So, uh, we presented a letter. We're going to be brief. I know y'all got a full meeting, but I've got

005a letter wrote to each one of you there. My card is in that letter, okay? You keep that card, okay? because as you grow and progress, you need financial assistance, guidance, whatever the case may be. Okay? Uh our door is a open policy door. Okay? I don't care if you're not 18. All right? If you have questions that you need help with, uh she helps you with the accounts and stuff, I help you with the next level. All right? And if it's just educational needs on what you need to know how to do as you move forward to the next level of your life, then that's fine. You may not need alone. You may not need anything. You just need education and you just need advice. Okay? I'll tell you all the time. I'm there

006to give you the best advice and the best opinion that I can give. Okay? And it's open door. All you got to do is come in and say, "Hey, that guy said I can come in question. It's fine. All right. I'll talk to anybody anytime anywhere. Okay. But for the sake of time, I want to I have to list the name for those of you that are here. So, I think Dawson is the one that's not here. Is that correct? Okay. So, Chandler, Jessica, Sharon, and Angel. Okay. Y'all come here. >> Huh? Okay. >> An angel. Okay. Want to say congratulations. And I'm serious what I said. Okay. My wife is a teacher for 28 years, retired. So I know what the school system is like. I know what you're going to face. She come

007home at night. Okay. So we need new educators, too. And if this helps some of you become new educators. I know that ran there would love to see people come back to this town to help educate in this area. Okay. Whatever your field may be. Okay. want to say good luck in the next level and congratulations on everything. It's over. Can we get a picture? >> Yep. We have one more. >> You missed all my speeches. >> You have an envelope there. Okay. It's got a letter in it from me and my card is okay. And I've told them they can call and ask me if they have any questions about whatever. Doesn't matter. It don't have to be financed. It can be school. It can be personal, whatever. Okay, that's that's kind of my

008deal. All right. I love trying to help people in whatever fashion or avenue that we can. We're not just playing. We're here for you. Okay. Can I get a picture from somebody? >> You want to be perfect? Just let me I feel like raise your phone a little bit. Thank you guys for giving US >> MR. FRASIER, MR. SERGEANT, we thank you all very much for for your um for your assistance with this and your willingness to be a part and help our students. So, we greatly appreciate you and your bank and what you do. Thank you all. >> Thank you. Congratulations. >> Thank y'all so much. >> Congratulations students. >> Now we will move on to our recognition for our teachers and campus support. >> I think we might only have a couple of

009them. >> As uh as was mentioned in Kyle's prayer, it's a busy time of the year for for everybody. So, we're going to start with our elementary uh teacher of the month. If I can have Miss Mallalerie Duran come forward, please. This is what it says about Miss Dur. It says Mallerie Dur is Mount Vernon Elementary spotlight teacher for March. M joined our staff this year come with several years of teaching experience and so much to offer our school and community. She is quiet, reserved, and a dynamic teacher. She has embraced our new curriculum, has worked with her team to make it more engaging for students. She works to ensure all students are growing and meeting their goals. Her third grade teammates appreciate how she has jumped in and contributed to make the team a

010strong team for students. She has made Mount Vernon Elementary School a better place, and we are thankful for her for her service. Her third grade students describe her as an awesome, spectacular, and caring. She helps us become better readers. She makes things we are learning fun by adding action and funny things. She has taught us to be better readers and how to write essays. She helps when we are confused. I've become a better speller this year with her help. She talks to everyone with respect and doesn't raise her voice with us. Thank you, Miss Dur, for being you. Mount Elementary uh teacher of the month, Miss Mallerie Duran. >> Any words? >> I'm blessed to be here and all the ads on our campus is amazing. They welcome me with open arms and happy to

011be here. Thank you for your time. >> We're glad you're here. Thank you for what you do. So we have two middle school representatives. One for teacher of the month and also for uh staff member of the month. Neither one is here. >> One has a sick and one track. >> One's tracking and one's got a sick kid. So I will share excuse me I will read what was about each one of them. Coach Riyle is our teacher coach and the staff member of the our teacher of the month. Says, "Coach Riyle is an extraordinary role model for our students and our student athletes. He provides support academically, socially, emotionally, and athletically. He's always willing to step in and support the campus as a whole. He does all of this with a consistent positive attitude.

012He coordinates study sessions, help students organize their coursework so they can balance athletics and academics effectively. reinforces the message that academic knowledgeability and personal growth go hand in hand. Encourages students to seek help when they need it and take ownership of their learning. He creates a network of support that help students stay on track and higher. So the middle school teacher of the month is coach coach cole and the staff member of the month is Juan Diaz. Mr. Diaz stands out because he combines warm with action. Warmth with action. He builds meaningful relationships by listening and showing up. He supports students through hard work and dependable guidance. He strengthens the campus by contributing to collective effort and by modeling service to the community, excuse me. As a result, students feel value classrooms become more dynamic

013and the campus grows into a more inclusive, welcoming, and ambitious place to learn and grow. So, we'll be sure Coach Ry and Juan Diaz both their staff. And now, our high school teacher of the month, if I could have our infamous band director, John Lewan, come forward. says, "Mout Vernon High School's April teacher month is our outstanding band director, Mr. John Lewansson. Now in his second year at Mount Vernon High School, Mr. Lewansen has quickly become an invaluable member of our school community and an effective leader for our band program. Under his leadership, the band program has grown in both skill and spirit. He sets high expectations for students while creating a supportive, encouraging environment where they feel motivated to do their best. His rehearsals are structured, engaging, and focused on continuous improvement, and students

014consistently rise to the challenges he sets for them. Beyond musical excellence, Mr. Wansen emphasizes teamwork, responsibility, and perseverance. He takes time to build relationships with students, learning their strengths, and help them develop confidence both on and off the stage. His presence at performance, school events, and after school practices demonstrates his dedication to student success. Mr. Wansen is collaborative, positive, and always willing to help. He contributes ideas, supports school initiative, and brings energy and professionalism to everything he does. We are proud to recognize Mr. John Hansen as our April teacher of the month and thank you for the tremendous impact he has made on our students, our band program, Mount Albert High School community. High school teacher of the month, John. George, I'm I'm beyond humbled, you know, for for this award and honored. And uh

015it it would I'd be remiss if I didn't thank my amazing team that we have. We have a we have a great team director, Leslie Wes and Mr. Nick Gibson. share this with them and uh also um to the support that we received from our administration and and our school board. We thank you. There's not nothing that we do as a band would be possible without without the support that we get from So, thank you. >> Thank you very much. >> And we had two cafeteria staff members of the month. is Tiffany Taylor says that her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and genuine care for students, staff do not go unnoticed. Thank you for the pride you take in your work and the difference you make every single day. And Richard Jenny, your kindness, commitment

016to the junior high kept you and truly stand out. Where the greedy students with a smile are telling them good morning. You make a meaningful impact. Thank you for everything you do to keep the kitchen. And we'll be sure and get them their plants as well. So, if I could have the two that were here in attendance, if you'll come back up, we'll get a picture with the board. behind us. >> I'm trying. >> We need a box over here. >> We need a window. Listen to the band. Congratulations. >> Thank y'all so much. >> Okay, we'll move on to our information items. Uh the first is our enrollment totals. Enrollment was up just a little bit as of April the 2nd to 1528 from the previous month of March of 1519. Uh we are

017still down um about 40 students uh from last year. Uh but that's been consistent throughout. Actually, it's up a little bit from where we started the year. Uh so we're 1528 as of April 2nd. >> Thank you. I messed up my workbook. Um, and then we have our campus department update. Who would like to go first? >> Looks like the back and forth. We're going with the high school first. >> I've only got to go first a couple of times over the years. It's a special treat. It really is. >> I'm waiting for y'all to play paper. >> We need to We need to. So, all right. So, we are into the springtime fast and furious. As everybody knows, there's I mean, as we've already talked about tonight, there's so much going on, I could

018never I could never capture it all on this, but I did put down a few just bullet points of things I wanted to mention, and I'm sorry to anything anyone that I left off of this. Uh, last couple of weeks, week and a half ago, we had our CCMR expo, um, which was a huge success. It's our third year doing that. Um, this year, we did a second part to it. A lot of the community members that came, they uh, they stayed after and they stayed behind and they did mock interviews with our seniors. Um, so they we had I think 94% of our seniors set in on those interviews. Wow. >> And they got to experience a lot of them for the very first time what an interview situation might be like with a

019with a real professional. So I thought that was really good kind of add-on to what we've done with the CCMR fair in the past. So um kudos to all the people that organized that and put it together. So, we did our school day ACT uh I don't remember when it was but a few weeks ago and during that we had 30 what we call accelerated testers that took the ACT and those are kids that started EOC testing in the in the eighth grade uh but now they're all the way taking the ACT. So, those kids uh had a composite score of about 22 which is which is pretty good. But I wanted to shout out two students in particular, Kyomore and Ricardo Sosa. They had a 33 and a 34 which is almost a perfect

020score. I believe 36 is perfect score. So those two I I don't really remember anybody scoring higher than that in the at least in the recent past. So they did that was really good. Um of course shout out to Mount Melurn and one act play going to the regional competition for the ninth year in a row. Like I I don't have the research on this but I doubt there's any other school in the state that has been at the regional competition nine years in a row. and hopefully we'll be going to state for the fourth time in a row here in just a couple of weeks. Miss Trantham, I wanted to say this, Miss Trantham, our CIS coordinator, who doesn't get a lot of probably a lot of praise she deserves, but she does a

021really good job. And she went on, she took 25 seniors yesterday over to NTCC for a program they have over there that's called CAPS, and this is for kids that don't know exactly what they're going to do after graduation, seniors that are still unsure. Uh so she took them over there and they got to see all kinds of different things that were offered over there and what opportunities might be. Just some examples of things they got to see was auto body repair, EMS, funeral services, electrical, dental assistant, real estate and many many other things. So they got to kind of go around and choose what things they might be interested in and sit down and hear from professionals and how they could actually become that in the near future. So, um, the few of those

022kids I got to talk to, I think they got some good experience and good ideas of what they might want to do once they get out of here. We have a sophomore student, her name is Hallison Guzman. She's a part of Taffy and she's qualified for the national competition in Taffy that's going to be in where is it at? I think it's in Portland, Oregon. Portland, Oregon coming up this summer. So, she wrote a book. She wrote a book that is about um early childhood literature and again she's qualified for the national competition and she'll be going there in this summer. So she's the president of FCCLA and uh she's going to be a teacher when she graduates. So that was pretty cool. And uh along with her we have another student, junior Katie Tovar.

023She is uh the 202526 area vice president for Taffy and she's going to get to go to the national conference as a voting delegate. So pretty good honor for both of those two students. And then UL academics, high school academic UIL, they participated last week and we were the champions in the district in math and calculator application and team runner up in number sense and science and many individual awards went along with that. So that would be Miss Wares, Miss Roman, Miss Sanders, then Carly Hunt, Miss Hunt that handles all of that. So they did a great job with that. And then we're in testing season here at the high school. So, we did um ELA one and two star testing this week and we'll be getting uh getting ready for the biology, the US

024history and the algebra coming up in the next couple of weeks and then many many other events with seniors and all kinds of fun things happening. So, it's just that time of the year. >> So, what we got going on? >> Thank you. I sent you the senior calendar, right? >> Okay. Send your calendar. >> I'm I'm add one thing. >> I'm add one thing to Mr. lovers. Um, I know this because Mr. Ingram came into Jessica's office to take care of I think we had our horse judging team is moving on to state. Is that correct? >> Officially official soon. >> Yeah. That's I don't know the name. >> And they're going to love it. I can remember if he's a love member is one of them. >> Yeah. four years. So that's so

025it's another group of students move moving on to state which is a real good competition. >> And we have a tennis team that's going to be >> going to regionals. He said he's prevp >> I was you know I had to do that. So >> y'all never get to experience the Bates butler dynamic. So, I told her we needed to do it together. >> Wait a minute. Wait a minute. So, this week is assistant principal appreciation week. And what better way to celebrate our amazing assistant principal by allowing y'all to get to experience her joy and excitement for education. Absolutely. So, she is going to tell you about all the great things going on. >> But you have to stand up here because that's the dynamic duo part. Um, Mr. Glover mentioned testing. We have

026four down as of today. four of our 12. So, um, keep us in thoughts and prayers over the next few weeks. Monday is science, Thursday is social studies, and then math and algebra will be the next week. So, um, our teachers and students have just been busting it the past few weeks. Um, been seeing some really good review stuff in the classroom. So, >> and if we tell you right now that we're okay, we're lying. We're not >> I sent Coach Kaylee. He's with his daughter in Arizona with a cheer thing and I I have my picture of a dumpster fire. >> So, we're good. Everything's good. >> Um, >> what else? Um, we are starting to prep for our Tiger camp coming up in May where the fourth graders will come up and get

027a little introduction to all things middle school. So, that's an exciting time. Um, we've got an eighth grade field trip we've started planning and our first annual Tiger Games, which is a bracket style tournament day where the kids can do flag football, soccer, volleyball, pickle ball, >> basketball, or dodgeball. Um, they can play to be pay to be on the team or spectator. So, we're using it as a fundraiser and we're going to do it after all the testing is done and >> kids are super excited about that. So, anyways, just >> kids like ordering shirts to match, but it's getting >> it's hardcore. So, nobody wants me on their pickle ball team. I've tried but >> but all the teachers are they're wanting to play golf ball. So, >> yeah. So, anyways, that's it.

028>> It'll be a fun day. So, they the kids deserve it after all the hard work they've been doing. they deserve to have a day to play, especially our eighth graders. You know, that's a that's a big year. So, >> I want to kind of go back on the testing. I know that y'all y'all all know um especially you guys that spend at the middle school. Um it's hard. We have 12 tests and we have coaches like today is a testing day and we have coaches at track meet. So, shuffling and it is it is she's done an amazing job making a schedule and the teachers have been so flexible and just you just go with it. It is like it doesn't matter how good you plan it, it's going to change. So, um I

029have to give huge kudos and shout out to her and staff for this locker. >> It's amazing. So, >> anyways, don't one day just come sit up there in the front office. >> If you been sitting in the front office this afternoon, you would have get your popcorn and just hang out. Thank y'all for all y'all do. I appreciate y'all. >> Thank you guys. Hang in there. So yeah, >> and spring has sprung at the elementary, too. Um, so we had a school that from Deport Elementary came and did a school visit. They wanted to see what we had going on. They toured some of our classrooms to see our blue bonnet implementation. They brought a parah to see how we're doing our learning lab. They loved it when the principal came for our region

0308 uh networking event. So they came to borrow some ideas from us. So that's always a form of flattery. So, we were glad to have them and we're going to go visit them sometime to see how they're doing and to see if we can borrow some ideas from them as well. We finished our reading yesterday. We only had two that were absent. They made those up today. We had a little bit more. We had two that were absent yesterday that came today. So, we'll finish up those next week and hit math next week. We had our play it safe program where children the child advocacy center comes and does their program just for some awareness for our kiddos. We have that last week. We had a fun Easter time with all the grade levels. Let's

031see. Field trips. We're fitting in some fun now at the end of the year. We've got a talent show coming up if any of you would like to participate. We're accepting adult talent as well. So, right now we have three signed up. Hopefully, we're going to get some more and we're going to do a little screening to make sure we have some true talent. And then that talent show will be May 20th. So, you're welcome to come and participate. But we've got three kiddos signed up so far. More will come for sure. And then um we're planning an end ofear bash for all of our kids to participate just to send them off on a good summer. But academically, we knew at the beginning of the year, this has been since last year in discussions

032when we started our blue bonnet journey that we our kiddos weren't reading at the level that we want them to be reading. And so we worked really hard this year, we're seeing some really significant growth with K2, MCL class. We're finishing that up. So next month I'll have those scores for you. So teachers and we have pushed kids. We have pushed them. We had a third grade teacher, well she's a reading interventionist this year came from a third grade classroom and she was in the classroom on yesterday and she's like, "Oh my goodness, they can do it." I said, "They absolutely can do it." So we've pushed kids really hard this year and we're really proud of the progress they're making. Still have room for improvement as always, but we're we're growing kids and I'm

033really proud of our teachers and our kiddos for for how far they've come this year. But I'll have that data for you next time. Thank you, Miss George. >> That's for our campus and department update. Uh construction update. >> I I'll give a short construction update for Jackson. Uh they are continuing to work on the egg building, uh the fine arts in the high school cafeteria as well as the kind of the wrapping around the front of the administration building. Uh they in the kitchen had kitchen equipment show up yesterday. make sure they're in a process install any kitchen kitchen equipment in the cafeteria. Uh which as soon as they can get that in and and get a few other things buttoned up, they're going to set up training for um uh Heather and her

034crew uh to hopefully be able to do that before school's out while they're gone. So they'll have the summer u to prepare and get everything ready. Um trying to think um again they're closing the roof on some other areas that they're working on. uh still just going through. They're still on track from our meeting this past week. Uh they still plan to be able to turn over all three of those buildings to us um early to mid July uh to be ready for school to start. So, >> any questions on those? >> Okay. >> All right. And we are now going to um report on the um 2025 2026 schoolboard continuing credit hours report per state board of education Texas Education Code 11.159B 19 Texas 19 Texas Administrative Code 61.1 The following Mount Vernon ISTD

035schoolboard members have exceeded their required continue continuing education credit hours for the 2020 25 2026 school year in the following areas. Cyber security, post- legislative update to the Texas education co code, child abuse prevention, team building, additional continuing education, evaluating and improving student a uh outcomes. Kathy Lawrence Robinson has exceeded in the required continuing education hours. Brad Floyd is deficient in the required continue educationing hours. Donnie Richard Richards has exceeded in the required continue education hours. Josh Jordan is deficient in the required continuing education hours. Kyle Clayton is deficient in the required continuing education hours. Linda Baird is deficient in the required continuing education hours. Lean Ramsey has exceeded the required continuing continuing education hours. Sorry, that is a mouthful to get out. So, thank y'all for stumbling through that with me. Um, and now

036it is um, do we have anyone signed up for open forum? >> No, ma'am. >> All right. So, we will move right on to the consent agenda. Is there any questions on the consent agenda? >> All right. Is there a motion to approve the consent agenda? >> Motion make uh motion made by Kyle. Is there a second? >> Seconded by Linda. All four. That's 6. And then action items for tonight. Uh action item A is to consider and approve Apple leasing agreement for teacher MacBook replacement. >> Okay. Actually um agenda item A and D are about uh computer related items. Miss Karen if if is going to share information about both if that's okay with y'all and that way when you get to four you'll just be able to make the >> correct decision on

037that at that time. >> Okay. The first one that's about fresh years to six years back We're also increasing the storage so that they have more computer on their screen. >> This is u the amount of the lease is built into the budget already. The current budget that's been approved for this year. So it's not additional money fund balance or anything like that. it will be continued to be built into the to the budget in the years ahead. So again, it's not a it's not a hit on fund balance. It's coming out of operating budget. >> And also the first qualified for grantify next year, but qualified previous I'm not sure. I'm not sure if Taran knows this or not. I want to think the last is the last Apple lease that we did. Was

038it when Woodro was here? Is that I know you didn't know. Did you were way after Woodro? But I want to remember after I came here, Woodro did a I know we were in a three-year lease. Does that sound familiar? I know that's right. Sometimes >> we've done with Anthony as well. >> Okay. I haven't done one since I've been here. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Two since then. Okay. >> And the other part you want to go explain to them about the iPads. >> Yes. So first grade is also in our vision this year to replace all this >> and I don't think you told what's the plan for the existing back up to the existing teacher computers >> currently for the existing MacBooks is teacher buy their own cost $300. If they don't want

039to purchase it, those districts don't happen. And also not a lot of new teachers who balanced out those are a different >> any questions on those two. Okay. So, the first one we're um approving is the Apple leasing agreement for the teacher MacBook replacement. Do I have a motion to approve that? Motion made by Linda. Do I have a second? Seconded by Kathy all four. All right, that's 6o. >> Thank you. >> Action B, consider Senate Bill 546 on bus 3oint seat belts. >> Okay, I'm going to read the description here so I don't mess up on any of this, but to kind of go through this and I'll share with you the information from that. So, Senate Bill 546 from the 89th legislature session, legislative session requires board action on the items listed above

040before the end of the school year. The Texas Education Agency has opened the relevant reporting period and all submissions must be finalized by May 29th. SB 546 amends Texas Transportation Code section 547.71, which requires that school buses be outfitted with certain equipment. Previous law required a bus operated by or contracted for use by a school district for the transportation of school children to be equipped with a three-point seat belt for each passenger, including the operator. Senate Bill 546 eliminates an exception for a bus purchased by a school district that is a model year 2017 or earlier. Now, the requirement for seat belts does not apply to a bus if the board determines that the district's budget does not permit the district to purchase a bus that is equipped with this required seat belts or for

041which the mortant would become void if the bus were equipped to comply with the law. After a public presentation, if your board determines that the district's budget does not allow for the purchase of new buses or retrofitting existing buses, you must submit a report to TA no later than May 29th, 2026. So, Bobby Bobby went out and got information, got bids from um a company called Bucks Will and Equipment. They're out of Fort Worth and this is the the bid that they provided. So for each uh 77 passenger bus, which we have eight, the cost to retrofit those buses, which would be a new seat assembly, removing all existing seats and hardware, and installing a new threepoint seat belt seat with new mounting hardware, retrofit mounting kit, um shop parts, miscellane waste fee, and they

042would have to remove and replace the subfloor and vinyl flooring. The cost per bus is $40,362 times 8 for those 77 passenger buses would be $322,44816. We also have 10 71 passenger buses and for the same work each one of those buses would be at a cost of 38,332,48. So for the 10 of those, that would be $383,324.80. So to retrofit our entire bus fleet to the threepoint seat belt harness would be75,772, 96 cents out of our out of our existing budget, which we did not have built into that budget. Now, we do have one bus uh the last bus that new bus that we bought did have the three three U point seat belt harness which it was already outfitted with that when we bought it. Uh as you know, we've used the exception

043on other buses that we bought in the past to not do that. Um so, as superintendent, it would be my recommendation to the board. Well, let me back up. Any questions on that? Sorry. >> Sorry. before I before I give what what would be my recommendation. Uh again, it does say that um uh that the board has determined that what whether or not the district budget allows for it.
