Okay, call this meeting back to order at 7:38 discussion or action items consideration of possible action regarding modifying broadcast permission for ISD athletic events. I wanted to call this meeting as a result of a episode that we had happen at girls basketball game give board an opportunity to uh address the issue to be able to to discuss the board's thought process on how the the issue was handled or wasn't handled by by the participants and decide if there was any need to to make any changes. I think like the direction of this conversation go to just have an open discussion amongst the board on thoughts and processes and if there is a a need felt on part of the board to to make a change that we'll call for a motion to make that change
at the end of discussion. If there's no need to make any changes won't be a necessity for a for a motion there. But as the facts of the the situation at our our game, we had one of our our broadcasters ae had had an internal change in management, internal change in how they were going to be conducting staffing employees, how they were going to be broadcasting games or who was going to be broadcasting games. John Elie had showed up to be able to to broadcast the game. Representatives of KY entered the game, entered entered the I'm sorry, folks, my voice say entered the entered the court, entered the Ranger gym to be able to remove him from that during presentation. In my mind, there was a whole lot better ways to be able to take
care of that. could have been taken care of by s simply not not turning on the signal taking care of it after taking care of it not [clears throat] in the proximity of a presentation for one of our students any number of things that could have been handled much better caused embarrassment to to our district and caused embarrassment to our parents and caused embarrassments to people that were there so like to ask for for your opinions of the situation And if or if not, any kind of changes or any kind of things that you think need to be done, less I agree with the timing. Terrible, terrible look. a special moment for a young lady and a family and you know and and and now we get to talk about an incident uh between adults
that happened and not praising our our student, our athlete and and our family and and our girls basketball team. Um you know, I don't know what we can do. Obviously, we can't keep people out of the gym if they want to pay admission and broadcast from the stands. Um, but I would sure like to see at least a one-year ban from athletic radio is is my my might back up a little. Historically, this board would would alternate back and forth between the two stations in town. One would have access to the press box, one would provide. Once we built the the the bigger facilities, we were able to accommodate both and and that was then then both were approved simultaneous. [clears throat] Well, I would probably agree with Bryce and just say the timing of
this situation was awful, you know, and and there was probably definitely most definitely a better way to handle the situation that occurred back there while there was a presentation. So, just to address something there, Bryce, I do think we can we can restrict some of the casting come in because they're they're broadcasting our kids, our game. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And we've had zero conversation about this till right now. So I I didn't know what we can and can't. >> So we we can do that. >> And I don't know what the other guys think. Just just me. >> I wouldn't I mean I wasn't there. I just know what I've heard and not a lot. But yeah, I don't think it was didn't sound like a good situation. It could have been handled a
lot better. So, as far as what we do moving forward, hadn't really thought about it a whole lot until we get here. >> Yeah, I wasn't there either. But it is unprofessional. And I kind of go back to like what would we what would the district do if that was two students doing that in that environment. So you know we hold we should hold our community and businesses to a higher standard you would think. So I I don't know what suspension you know I don't know a year or what but I think something I don't know haven't thought of time frame might even one year with the review this time next year what are your [clears throat] thoughts my thought was uh balance it with a review of the summer time and just make it
a just a standard thing that we do every June or July meeting that we adjust or give access or or not or any broadcast partners because there's know there's others that may or may not want to be able to broadcast our events. You know, there could be an application process put in place. It's an annual thing between school years would be my thought process. >> [snorts] >> put it on the July agenda and we got it before the fall sports start. We have traditionally I usually get two requests for broadcasts July August but usually July because we're getting ready football season um from both KYTJ uh in in fairness and just in this meeting Ky has been the main one that's been broadcasting on girls sports like volleyball. Um, and so there's that that's just
kind of a fact of how it's worked for differently what's going to happen as far as what KXDJ would want to do. Um, and just in just to in fairness since we're all talking about it, I would I don't know if you guys saw the apology that KU did issue to the district apology, but um, so [clears throat] want that to at least be brought out in meetings as we're discussing it. But again, I appreciate the thoughts that share >> and there was an impromptu social media. So [snorts] I kind of go with kind of like what Sh said, you know, we we're going to suspend our kids or something. may not necessarily have to get banned, but it's some type of suspension till the end of the year. I mean, as soon as I
heard it happen, I had 15 people talking about the situation, not talking about kids that were on the board. So, something has to be it needs to be addressed. comments. I was there because I was concentrating on the young lady that was on court. I mean, I didn't see it, but I agree the same thing. We hold our kids to a level. So we should hold. Anything else? I'd make the motion that we go ahead and kind of do maybe a little bit of what you said to be able to maybe at this point suspend broadcast and then review it maybe in June and bring it back up and see kind of how everybody feels at that point. Is there a second? >> Second move and seconded to suspend broadcast rights for KY throughout the
balance of this 2526 school year. Any additional discussion? Seeing none, all in favor? All opposed? Motion [clears throat] carries 70. And see items on our agenda, this meeting is adjourned at 7:49.
