001OSD Board Recap Olympia School Board Meeting Recap: May 14, 2026 Hilary Seidel (District 4): Hi, I'm Hilary Seidel, Olympia School Board Director with a recap of the May 14, Olympia School Board Meeting. Before the regular meeting, we held a Special Recognition Ceremony honoring the 2026 Laurie Dolan Advocates of the Year from every school in our district. These awards, also known as the 'Dolies', recognize the school volunteers who make our district so special. Congratulations to all of this year's honores. During the regular meeting, the board approved the consent agenda, which included the board planning calendar and the personnel reports. The board then took action on two regular agenda items. First, the board received recommendations from a committee of students, staff, and community for naming spaces at the Capitol High School Performing Arts Center. The board accepted the
002committee's recommendation to keep the name of the performing arts center for the whole building while naming the Orchestra Pit for Dan Lundberg and the Scene Shop for Paige Sorensen. The board also approved the district's annual Washington Interscolastic Activities Association agreement. During discussion, board members reflected on issues related to student participation, inclusion, and access in athletics and activities while recognizing that the WIAA is currently abiding by state law. Superintendent Murphy also noted the district is exploring the possibility of expanding athletic offerings for sixth graders. The student representatives shared about their very successful districtwide student leadership summit. Thank you to everyone who participated in tonight's meeting. Our next regular board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 28. You can find agendas, meeting materials, and more information on the Olympia School District website. Questions for the board? Reach
