Hey, >> thank you for joining us tonight. Uh we will get started with the approval of the agenda. The administration recommends that board of directors approve the March 17th board meeting agenda. Do I have a motion? >> So moved. >> Have a second. >> A second. >> Thank you. Any discussion? Okay, seeing none, all those in favor say I. >> I. I. >> All those opposed. All right, that passes. Okay, let's take care of our consent items so we can get to recognition and all the fun stuff. Uh, the administration recommends the board of directors approve consent agenda items for March 17, 2026 board meeting as you see in your packet. Do I have a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. Any second? >> Second. >> Awesome. Any discussion? >> Uh, just as usual,
thank you for the donations. They're absolutely amazing. Thank you. >> Yeah, we have really great support in this community. So, it's great. All right, seeing none further, all those in favor say I. I. I. All those opposed. All right, motion passes. All right, let's get to the fun stuff. >> Yeah, so we have a special treat for you today. I'm gonna invite up the Bonny Lake High School Quartet and they have a little performance for you >> guys. For St. Patrick, we're going to be sitting in Good Irish 2. We're see Danny and this is our first time in B history that our small center base ensemble will be going. So, wow. >> You guys are all welcome to turn if you don't want to just look. >> Yeah. Yeah. The crowd. >> Turn to
those guys. Yeah. >> Difficult, but got some cameras up. Wow, that was uh truly impressive. >> And that is why we make the arts a priority in this school district. >> So good that we wanted to clap very quickly. We wanted to show how good that was. We were ready to clap for you. So, thank you for doing that. Was amazing performance. >> Yeah. State. >> Yeah. Before you leave, will you introduce yourselves? >> Hi, Carlos. senior. All right. >> Nice. Nice. Amazing. All right. So, we have a few more uh a few more recognitions. the person that I would um that I'd love to recognize right now. I'm looking at um Maril Lee, come on up for a second. >> She loves this stuff. >> I know she loves this stuff. Right. So, during
our last flood, which this week it will not flood. I'm just putting it out in the universe and then if I don't, you can just stand anywhere. It doesn't matter. Um Merily did uh she did what Merily does. She always goes above and beyond to make sure that everyone is taken care of. um and her efforts weren't unnoticed and never go unrecognized, but she was given this big fancy award by um the Pierce County Human Services. It says certificate of outstanding community service. No shock there. Uh this certificate is presented to Merily Hill Anderson in recognition of your extraordinary service to Pierce County during the December 2025 flooding. So, Merily, thank you uh for everything you did and everything you like gathered up and rallied and I don't know, one time she's texting me saying
she's delivering like a refrigerator to someone and with Merily, you never know. Um, but thank you for making our families a priority and making sure everyone's taken care of. So, yeah. Well done. >> We love you. Oh. Oh, what's this? You're going to shake my hand. >> No, you're going to get to stand next to me. Okay. And I just have to introduce Mike Pavick. I'm telling you, if you don't know Mike, his picture is on the wall back there. It's by the six. It's like uh to my left of the six. But Mike is a Wow. a legend in our district. Um longtime school board member. Is it weird sitting on that side of the >> Yeah. You're like in the audience and you're hoping that we go quickly, right? Um, but it's just
so nice to see you back um and to have you in this room again. So, thanks for everything you did to build this school district into what it is today. And thanks for like leaving your legacy with us. Um, we protect it and we build on it. So, thank you. It's nice to have you here. Ellie McDaniel, let's let's introduce some new assistant principles. There you go. I think it's on. >> Good evening everyone. I am so thrilled to have two of my wonderful elementary principles with us tonight, Lisa Brovich, Sarah Thompson, and they are here to share some awesome news with you. We've got some new APs that we are promoting. Um, and I couldn't be more thrilled for them. They are amazing women and our elementary team is rocking it right now. Thank
you. Hello. Um, I'm Lisa Brovich, principal at Maple Lawn Elementary, and I am so thrilled and excited um to announce Haley Hoskins, who has been currently serving as my dean of students, and she is just a wonderful educator who has a heart for kids and a passion for um learning and she is going to be an amazing leader. She already is. So, congratulations, Haley. Please come up. Well, thank you guys so much for this opportunity and I look forward to continuing the work that we're doing at Maple Lawn and I'm very excited to be a part of this leadership team. Thank you. Right. and I am Sarah Thompson, principal at Donald Eisman. And I am introducing my new assistant principal, Danny File. Um, she also has been my dean. Um, she's been the dean at
Donald Eisman for two years. And she is an amazing um, administrator already and I'm just looking forward to the rest of this year and the years to come. Come on up, Danny. Thanks for introducing me, Sarah. I just want to say thank you. I am so honored to be standing here right now today and taking in this moment and just extremely proud. And I'm grateful. I'm grateful to be trusted with this hard work that's going to be at hand. And I'm grateful to just continue serving our community and be a part of this community. It's my home. Um, and I'm just ready. I'm ready to get started to continue learning, work with kids, and serve. Um, so thank you. So, here's a fun fact. Mike Pavick was the school board president when I became an
assistant principal at Mountain View Junior High. I mean, talk about a full circle moment. This is crazy. Yeah, that'd be great. Yeah, let's get in this one. Can we get in this one with them? All >> right. Oh my god. >> That we don't need a picture. My gosh. >> That's exactly right. >> One more. That's it. Okay. Okay. You know, I'm using up all of my all of the times I said no comment um tonight. So, if you um hadn't noticed, we have been recognized by OSPI as one of the top 25 districts in the state for academic excellence. And uh if I am Kelly Den, I would say that it is um the team that makes that happen. That there are a lot of hands that go into uh every student, every child,
every day. And what I will tell you is that if it weren't for her and the vision she has, the commitment, um the passion that she has to make sure that every child is known, valued, and supported, it would never happen. So, Kelly Den, kudos to you, your leadership, the vision that you have for this district and the execution uh that you have that makes this all happen. And yes, you would say it takes a team uh but we all know that that team has a great leader um and that's you. So kudos to you. >> All right. Well, that was those were great. I mean, the performance, the new new uh assistant principles, it's just it's exciting stuff. Congratulations to everybody. All right. So, board uh board comments are next on the list. Who
wants to go first? Don't all jump out at once. >> Well, we had a lot. I knew you could count on looking at me. We had a lot of good stuff going this last month, but one thing really stood out to me, Lori Elementary School. I went there for their presentation awards for students in seventh, eighth grade who made their Washington State history completion, successful completion, and see up seeing all those kids there with all their awards and they work so hard. I was really proud of what they did and seeing what they've accomplished. So, that was what stood out for me this past month. >> Thank you, Tom. Yeah, that's a definitely always a good one to go to. All right, we'll just go down the line. JB, you want to go next? >>
Um, so one of the other things that we did uh this week this month and um and I would highly encourage you, it's a it's a new it's kind of a new thing that the superintendent um has instituted kind of traveling study sessions. And so we have been getting out of the building and going um on site for some of our study sessions. And this last one was at Lacidge um middle school and we got uh we got to see firsthand again some of how the arts are working in our schools and we had presentations of from we had singing presentations, we had musical presentations, we had art presentations and um one of the things that I took away from that is that um our we our programs see about 13,000 students students annually. >>
Is that was that right? 2,000 students annually. >> Sorry. Um and 13 is good. That's a lot since since that's more than our entire district, but from it's more kids than our entire district, but uh 2,000 students go through the the middle school programs and see the arts and the opportunity to be exposed to that. and um and and the and anyone who had attended could have gone to those classes and sat in and seen how these students um what they're learning um how they're uh how those programs are put together, the equipment that they have, the opportunities that are being presented to them. So, I highly recommend if you're looking at something to visit, um these meetings here, the board meetings we have people come, they tend to be a lot of business. those
um especially the traveling ones are just an opportunity to see an experience and I think you you know I think it blew my socks off. I think it could blow your socks off too. So anyway, I just want to encourage people to do that. >> Yeah, it was definitely a great experience. Erin, you want to go next? >> Uh I will just second what JB said so eloquently. Um I'm huge fan of the traveling um study sessions and I hope we looks like we'll maybe continue that in the future. Um so many wonderful things to highlight in our district. Unfortunately, I didn't make it to my favorite robotics. Um, I didn't make it to the state game. The sickness finally caught up to me and I was down and out for a little bit. So,
I was a little a little lower than normal, but hopefully others can talk about some of the other good things that are happening in our district. >> So, um, I did get to take my son and grandson to the robotics and having never been to one, I was a little sheepish on how do you how do you prepare for this? Um, we have cheers, we have costumes, we have masks, we have um, agony of defeat all over the place. It was every time somebody lost. But it was just so amazing. It reminded me, you know, as an educator, I think when kids really get it is when they can apply and you watched the different teams apply everything they're doing and just some amazing work. But with a robotics competition, I'm pit put together with
three other teams. every time we go through a cycle. So I may be with Sar School District one time and uh Highline and Pasco and we all have to work together and our machines have to work together and just to watch what they did and then to go down to the pits and it looked like NASCAR to me. I mean they're just amazing all over the place with their tools and that but uh it was really well attended. The place was packed. I was up in the rafters kind of hanging out but uh it was just so much fun. So I really enjoyed it. Thank you. >> Right. Great. Thanks. Yeah, I think uh both of those events that that everybody's gone to, especially the traveling uh study sessions, had we not had a traveling
study session at Bonnie Lake High School where the robotics team presented to us, we wouldn't have known going into that event what we were even seeing because it is it is truly unbelievable what they do with these robots. And if if having that background, understanding how the competition works and how they have to work together and one minute they're teammates and the next round they're they're foes and then the next round they're teammates again. And it it really fostered a sense of you never know when you get out into the workforce. You know, maybe there's somebody you don't like or you don't get along with, but you never know when you're going to be put on a team with them and you have to learn how to work together and and move past that. So
I thought there was just some lifelong skills that they were learning um through the robotics and everything. And I think it also provides a venue and and a an opportunity for students that you know may not be as likely to join something else. It gives them an opportunity to do something that's team related and and you know competition related and that sort of thing. And not to mention the fact that that all of our robotics teams place really well and they do really really good. The programs are are phenomenal. So yeah, I enjoyed all of that as well. So thank you for all the great comments. I think um with how much action we have on the agenda coming up, uh let's go ahead and take a five minute break. There are some St. Patrick's
themed cupcakes I heard about in the back that if anybody wants to partake, why don't we come Why don't we go seven minutes? Let's come back at 6:30. Thank you. Well, no, we had the fun stuff, right? Yeah. All right. Well, thank you for sticking around for the business part of the agenda. Appreciate all the uh all the support. Thank you. >> All right, so next thing on the agenda, uh do we have any audience comments, David? >> We do not have any audience comments this evening. >> Well, we appreciate everybody's public comments. Sometimes we like to get the agenda done. So, business matters. Resolution 142526, Mountain View Middle School Damages Declaration of Emergency. The district administration recommends the board adopt resolution 142526, Mountain View School Damages Declaration of Emergency. Do I have a motion?
>> Some moved. >> Thank you. And a second. >> Second. >> Thanks. Any discussion? All right. Seeing none, all those in favor say I. >> I. I. >> All those opposed. All right. Motion passes. All right. Next action item is resolution 152526, Donald Eisman parking and field bid award. Bids were opened up for the Donald Eisman Elementary School Field and Parking Improvements Project on Thursday, March 12th, 2026. Recommendation is upon review and evaluation, the district administration recommends the board award Premier Field Development the contract for construction of the Donald Eisman Elementary School Field and Parking Improvements Project. Do I have a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. Do I have a second? >> Second. Thanks. Any discussion? Exciting to see things moving forward. Awesome. All right. All those in favor say I. I. >>
All those opposed. All right. Motion passes. All right. Next one is resolution number support services generator bid award. Bids were opened up for the supportive services generator project on Wednesday, March 11th, 2026. And upon review and evaluation, the district administration recommends the board award Apex Mechanical LLC the contract for construction of the support services generator project. That's mouthful. Do I have a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. Do I have a second? >> Second. >> Thanks. Any uh discussion? >> No. All right. We love generators. Seeing generators go in. That actually makes us happy that things can continue to function even when the weather's bad. All right. All those in favor say I. >> I. I. All those opposed. All right. Motion passes. There is a budget status report uh put together by chief
financial officer Brian Beerley. Uh he's provided a budget status report for the board of directors for information only. All right. Our next action item is under instructional materials adoption. In accordance with policy 2020, course design, selection, adoption of instructional materials, the following resources have been reviewed and approved by the district curriculum and instructional materials committee. Thank you for your service. Uh Michelle Lewis, executive director of learning and innovation, is submitting a recommendation for the following instruction materials to be used for English language learner support curriculum for adoption. First reading of this curriculum was February 17th, 2026 at that board meeting. The administration recommends the board adopt the following instruction materials for English language learners support grades 6 through 8, bridges to literature and content. >> Do I have a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank
you. >> Second. Oh, thank you. Didn't even have to ask. Do I have any discussion? All right, seeing none, all those in favor say I. >> I. All opposed. All right. Motion passes. >> All right. Our next one under curriculum, uh, Michelle Lewis, executive director of learning and innovation, is submitting a recommendation for the following instructional materials to be used for English language learner support curriculum for adoption. First reading of this curriculum was at the February 17th, 2026 board meeting, and the administration recommends the board adopt the following instruction materials for English language learner support grades 6 through 12 titled Get Ready. Uh, do I have a motion? >> Thank you. >> I'll second. >> You'll second. All right. Seeing a second. Any discussion? >> No. All right. Seeing none, all those in favor say
I. I. >> All those opposed? All right. Motion passes. Under policy matters, uh, one of the board's main responsibilities is to regularly review and update district policies and procedures. Policy committee made of two board members. Thank you for your service. And district leaders, thank you. Examine policies and procedures before they are presented to the entire board for first reading and eventually adoption. This two-step process ensures careful consideration before final decision decisions are made. In accordance with policy 1310, adoption and amendment of policies and bylaws, the following policies are included for adoption. The district administration recommends the board adopt the following district policies in accordance with policy 1310, adoption amendment policies and bylaws. Those policies are 21106 2421. Do I have a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. I have a second. Thank you. Any
discussion? All right. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> All those opposed. All right. Motion passes. All right. And where I was headed next was information only in accordance with policy 1310, adoption amendment of policies and bylaws. Following policies are included for first reading. Uh 21108 and 2140. That brings us to presentations. SHS and BLH BLHS design and development status. Director of capital projects Marina TA and development and construction manager Matt Galanis Galanians sorry of Falcon and Fern with present present an update on the design and development of projects for Summer High School and Bonnie Lake High School. Once you mess it up, it's hard to like get it back. So >> testing. >> There we disclaimer Marina did all the work. I'm just the face that's presenting. Um, so the the
state requires that we go through the SD, DDD, and CD process for state match. And as as we develop these projects, you've already approved the SD, the schematic design for Sumar High School, Bin Lake High School, and the middle in the new middle school. That's sort of the what, how many classrooms, where are they generally? Bathrooms. Oh, thank you. Oh my god. Thank you. See, I got to be useless without her. Um, is this is this in the intro? No. Okay. So, how many classrooms? Where are the stairs? What do we want? DD is the how. What's the spacing between the bathroom stalls? Does the mechanical system talk to this mechanical system? Do the grades work on the civil level? That's what we've completed for the high schools. The third phase, which will be next,
is construction documents, and that's like how exactly does the waterproofing work at the window and and what's the makeup of the exterior of the building? So, we're going to present these to you. The plans are tiny, but uh we'll talk through them. Um starting with Bon Lake High School. It's going to have a very prominent front entrance, a nice little plinth at the bottom of that column where kids can gather and sit with rays of sunshine on our four sunny days spilling over them. The glory. Um and of course that big panther sign in the back. There's going to be a panther up in the top of that staircase. It's going to be really nice. It's a beacon for the community. Um, on the ground floor of the new addition, there's going to be very
um, how do I say this? Appropriate DLC facilities, way better than what they have right now. When I saw the state of the current ones, I was like, "No, Marie and I were like, we have to make this right." So, we're going to treat the students with the needs very well here. And I think the staff that works with them diligently every day will feel appreciated and that's really important to us. Uh moving up, you know, several thousand square feet, we've got a series of classrooms and science rooms, uh second floor again, and um what we didn't talk about here is the parts of the school where classes are moving here. Um we're going to redo those, just give them a nice brush, get them ready for a classroom. But we're also expanding robotics at
Bake High School, giving them more room, reconfiguring the CAD lab. So again, showing our programs, we're invested, we care, just taking care. Tony's really excited. It's it's going to be a great project. Um, and budget-wise, we are just under through DD, so that's that's good. This one's one of the tighter ones. Um, but that's okay. Uh, summer high school development. You've seen the pictures a million times. You've seen the floor plan, a lot of CTE. So, bottom left, tiny sparts, uh, childhood development. As you move up, it turns into a science, um, uh, what's other one? Animal sciences, uh, common core, uh, and robotics. And then, uh, as you move up in the floors, you know, the a beautiful, uh, culinary arts, photo studio, video, and then mostly just classrooms on the upper floor. Um,
both of these, this short presentation, both of these projects are going extremely well. Sumar High School is well under budget, so it's a very comfortable one. And, uh, we wanted to present this to you, get your approval to keep going with these projects, but I have zero concerns about either of these high school projects. They're they're going very well. Both are in for permit right now. Both the cities have been very cooperative, so very happy. >> Any questions? >> Nice. Great. Thank you for that presentation. Anybody have any questions? you you do such a great job of keeping us posted all the time that when it gets to these presentations that it's >> pretty straightforward. So, we appreciate your time. >> So, hold on. >> I saw on social media like people were like we
have a sign out now kind of starting and people are getting excited about it and they're seeing it. So, I think that that's really great. Um >> Yep. And you know, Donald Eisman, we let that we voted on that earlier under budget getting going this summer. So, it'll be good. >> Awesome. >> As well as some legacy projects with Lidge Middle School parking and queuing. So, >> so I would not be um supporting our culinary teachers if I did not ask this question for Janine >> Sther. >> The the kitchen is on the second floor. >> Yes, she's getting a cart. Yeah. Sorry. Go ahead. >> So, is that how I mean is that how we're going to mitigate for the like how >> Yeah, I mean there's two elevators in the building. Okay. >>
Big elevators that can handle a hospital gurnie. So unless she's bringing in more food than can fit on a hospital gurnie, I think she'll be okay. We'll give parking for the car. I know she brings it up very time. Excuse me. >> Janine, I got you. >> Yeah. Yeah. It's like it'll be the nicest kitchen in the county. So >> Oh, it'll be nice. >> Yeah. I mean, >> okay. >> Yeah. It's like you can deal with a cart. >> It'll be a nice cart. >> Yeah, it'll be nice cart. Stainless steel and everything. Food grade. >> I've got one other question. >> Yes. So I remember on one of the um presentations that you did where there was uh where they where everything is reviewed by the c uh by an outside organization, right,
for for costs and correct materials and all those things. And I kind of remember on that and it may just be that this picture is here, but that there was going to be a roof over the child. >> There is. >> Okay. >> Yep. >> Very good memory. >> I was listening. >> Yep. No, that was good. >> That's impressive. >> Yeah, that's great. Yeah, they'll have a roof in a cool like multicolored mat outside that's weatherproof with like daffodils in under. It'll be cool. >> That's good. That's good. Take care of those tiny sparts. >> I I Thank you. >> Awesome. >> Anything else? >> Good. Well, thank you very much. Appreciate it. >> Thank you. >> Okay, here goes. Here's a lot of information for you, so take a deep breath. All right,
child nutrition update. Uh the child nutrition director Charlotte Maris Marrison has provided a child nutrition department update to the board of directors for the 2526 school year that's in your packet. Appreciate you doing that. Thanks for all the hard work. We've got strong minds kind hearts update. Uh Dr. Lori Dent has provided a report for the strong minds kind hearts initiative launched in August as part of the district's commitment to ensure every student is known, valued, and supported. The report contains highlights from the student led acts of service during December, January, and February, which have been just a pleasure to see out in the district. So, this is really, really cool stuff. Thank you. And uh we have asset uh preservation program annual report. Facilities manager John Boman has provided an annual report in reference
to the asset preservation program for Bonnie Lake High School, Lacage Middle School, and Mountain View Middle School. Thank you for putting that together. All right, that brings us on the agenda to board discussion. Do we have any board discussion tonight? I'm not surprised. We had a really good conversation at Lorage at our study session and had a lot of good conversation there. So, >> I guess the only thing I was going to bring up is that um I know the state legislature just closed and I think there was one thing that passed um around special education and the need to um I think it's parent notification, earlier parent notification or that sort of thing. And my guess is we're already probably doing a lot of those things. But I guess my question is not that
I'm expecting an answer now, but um do we need to revisit some of that to to make sure that we're up to code with what they're requiring. >> So what I'll do is I'll talk to Jane um and I'll put that answer and information for you in the brighter report. >> Y great. >> Great question. Thank you. All right. Seeing no other discussion, we will move to announcement of our next regular board meeting. Board meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 21st, 2026, and will begin at 6 PM in the central office boardroom. Right here we are adjourned. Thank you.
