001i think we'll go ahead and call today's fashion island school board meeting to order and we have an uh a uh motion to approve the agenda don't move all in favor aye aye all right that will bring us to public comment take it away slade great so uh first thanks to all the public who are joining this this evening um i will be reading public comment we have one public comment this evening dear school board members i am writing regards to the commitment form sent out yesterday to ces families since there is no date for reopening to an in-person model at this time it seems irresponsible to force families to choose what they're going to do sometime in the future the reopening of ces for in-person learning is a constantly moving target in this week's
002community update we are well above the number needed to even consider a reopening date what the environment looks like once the numbers have reached a safe point look drastically different than they do now early in the communication regarding the model options it was implied that a family could change their mind once we officially have two models the summary and form do not state this as well as making the online model sound subpar compared to what the in-person learning model is described to be also there have not been details communicate on what the continued online model would will truly consist of for example will grades be combined such as k1 2 3 etc instead of a straight grade as is now is it a continuation of what they are used to seeing specialists weekly etc is
003it unreasonable to ask a family to it is unreasonable to ask a family to make this decision without full details of each model i believe this puts more pressure on a family to choose the model they may not be comfortable with as the summary is written to unfairly shine a better light on the in-person model punishing families who choose to keep their students home where safety of their child family and teacher as a determining factor is not equitable i am also concerned that the protocols surrounding the in-person model have been grossly understated i attended the board meeting on 1 30 20 to voice my concerns of the cleanliness of ces and vhs is regards to mitigating illness that was pre-covered when disinfecting and distancing weren't required to the extent they are now how will sheridan's
004faces be properly disinfected between the staggered classes when there has not been an increase in sodium staffing our teacher is expected to do this job now too this commitment form would be better stated as a gauge of interest for pre-planning with a true commitment form being sent out once a date has been established i can appreciate the need to gather information for planning purposes but my concern is that the data collected will be a misrepresentation of what a family ultimately chooses once the time comes both by not responding or changing their mind there are so many stressors on parents and students right now adding an unnecessary decision this early should not be one of them best molly york parent of ces first grader and bhs graduate thank you mr jordan that is our comment this
005time okay great and we're gonna move on to the superintendent report so go ahead with that slade yes thank you uh school board my attend uh my report be will be short this evening uh i know we're trying to stick with some time frames and we have other important information to share further on to open my superintendent report i humbly make a land acknowledgement i would like to recognize and knowledge the indigenous people of this land the people tribe of indians in the old days once again their name meant generous and welcoming behavior to all peoples friends and strangers who enter their lands their people lived here for thousands of years existing by the bountiful gifts provided by the creator today we pay respect to the people tribe of indians and to their elders past
006present and emerging i'd just like to uh remind everybody too hopefully that they've re received their ballots in the mail and i would encourage everybody to vote uh during this election there is a ballot box at the library and you can also mail your ballot in the next point on my report this evening uh i believe i've signaled that the board and myself and as well as the board chair and vice chair considered um a resolution or future resolution that would support communication and and support the board and kind of further clarify or outline what the board's roles and responsibilities are regarding oversight after further consideration putting forth a resolution that outlines practices and procedures that we've already established does not seem appropriate however i am pointing our public to our school board operating protocol
007webpage there's a link there that once you get to that link you will see uh wasda resources regarding uh the board director handbook which each of our board members has received the wants to open opma um open public meetings act information and another kind of uh list of new board member resources it also talks about our leadership team roles and then um how the board directors agrees to operate so i would just like to direct our public to that if they have information or questions about our board operating protocols upcoming events we are rescheduled i'd like our public to know that in one week on the 27th uh we will be we've reached if if folks don't remember on the island we had a significant wind event that knocked out power which prohibited our boardwalk
008workshop from from happening we've rescheduled it for uh next week on on tuesday evening from 5 30 to 8 o'clock where the board will be essentially working with each other to come to an agreement on a process moving forward for our strategic planning and that board meeting that board workshop will be hosted by amy cast which is a who is a wasda leadership consultant and also a board director herself who will be facilitating that that evening's work and so uh our public should get notice of that change of date uh and the evening meeting soon i just want to just let them know that and then we have our we have just one board meeting in november because of the thanksgiving holidays that board meeting is on november 12th thanksgiving is on tuesday november 26th
009thanks siri she attends all board meetings that's the conclusion of my board report thank you everybody hey thanks for that i thought we're going to move to board member remarks and bob you are on top of the column tonight so you want to go first boy i get the honor a lot here i have nothing to to add i'm uh just excited to get through the material tonight [Music] excellent toby hey good evening nice to see everyone happy to be here tonight sorry we're not in the room together um i'm excited to be attending a webinar tomorrow morning put on by the paradigm shift organization is called creating your 2021 diversity equity and inclusion strategy and it's really oriented towards organizations and how organizations think about diversity and inclusion and equity at that level so
010i think there's a lot i can learn uh for my own uh professional work and hopefully there's some lessons that i can bring back to the board and report that's all i have that sounds great is it that um i just want to acknowledge and thank everybody who chimed in about the mascot and how appreciative everybody was about once they realized it was not happening that we were actually focusing on um other things in school in the mascot however how um you know just how how where everybody was and so i just want to thank that and also like slade and i were saying it was really great to see this like school spirit like like it's alive and well and so let's let's harness that energy um uh like like molly said let's harness
011that energy to get people to get more involved in the schools uh i just wanted to thank that and that is it toby that sounds great i can't wait to hear how you how that how that meeting goes hey in the spring i am really happy to welcome ella and mead to our meeting tonight and i'm really sorry that i couldn't be there with you all on tuesday for the orientation um but we're really happy to have you as part of um as part of our board as student reps and as students you add such value and we really appreciate your voice and all and taking out time from your busy lives to um be part of this important work so welcome definitely we'll talk to them a little bit later on in our program
012um my remarks tonight i just wanted to i thank all the donors for everyone counts um put on by bachelor nature center and supported by the vashon schools foundation um with the help of windermere real estate and generous donors we were able to raise uh combined with the nature center um about six thousand dollars for to support that every one counts program and i understand there's there's better than 800 people participating in that so there'll be a large body of data collected and it's definitely a big hit in terms of engagement with the community and the science is important so really pleased that we're able to get help fund that and get it off the ground so successfully and that concludes my remarks so we will go to board policy updates thank you uh very
013much so policy number three one two two policy number four two zero zero and policy number five two three one this is the second reading of these policies if there is uh no further discussion i would recommend the board adopt these policies and do we have any further discussion from anyone in that case can i have a motion to approve uh i said really it's only i was just noticing the policies that have that are tweaked for um uh for online learning are we gonna do we go back and sort of take the language out once we went for all back in person or do we leave it in this is just a kind of like a tangential question you know what i mean no i i understand and that's a good question i'm not
014sure the of the answer to that i think once we get to those spaces that wazda will probably um is probably already contemplating that and working probably working towards a policy that may uh bridge those experiences all right okay yeah that was sorry reagan i'm not interrupt that was just like a little question i had a net could you look at 42 4200 just for for giggles uh second paragraph do we want us i just question certificate of staff shall be available for community members do we want to say that do we want to obligate uh our staff to be available for every every community member or any community member issue that comes up that was just a question and i don't have strong feelings but i just wanted to raise it and see if
015anybody else has any thoughts doesn't sound like there's any passion around well i'm reading the rest of the sentence this is in the paragraph and it looks to me like the an appointment is required which would necessarily require the consent of the staff member so i'm not sure that there's an obligation there that there's a making available and consenting to an appointment the strikeout of the red text indicates the old language right which also included um community members um i hadn't really read it when i read it i didn't really think about the question or bring it up bob i don't have a strong reaction to it i have no no no it's not a hill i want to die on i just wanted to flag it see if anybody else has any thoughts and
016if not then i i can support what we have in place i think um yeah i think it's okay as written further discussion [Music] toby's good sounds like bob's good any further discussion on this can we have a motion to prove these three policies i'll move we approve all three policies 31 22 4200 53 52 31. my second drop a second great all in favor aye aye aye all right uh next we come to the pesp cba agreement and slade will tell us what this is about or remind us what it's about uh uh this is just the second reading for the ves yeah vsp cba before the board uh barring any further discussion i would recommend that the board approves the esp cba and do we have any further discussion on this item if
017not can we have a motion to approve the vest cba so moved a second all in favor aye i want to recognize everybody there yeah uh the cba took a while to negotiate and must have been ever harder over uh over zoom and so well done uh for all the parties complete thank you toby yes and thank you to uh our vsp leadership absolutely hey and so that comes to tonight's reports and the first one will be a presentation uh student board representative presentation so our new student board reps let me uh just give a first uh introduction because this will be their first board meeting we had an opportunity to uh meet with ella yarkin and mead gill this last tuesday both reagan and i for a an orientation as student board representatives and
018these are uh both seniors here at vacheron high school and both are i would describe them as uh accomplished athletes and accomplished student leaders uh in in both uh their their schools and the community mead is a current uh editor for the riptide and ella is a representative for the vashon council and so both have an interest in in leadership and representing their students both also share an interest in attending zabat with you and i the the uh day on the hill in olympia and so um i'm excited to invite them i i'd like to invite them i know we met with joe one uh was that yesterday or the day before uh or a week ago yeah it was just it was just yesterday it was just yesterday uh ella and me i'm going
019to invite you to any future meetings with our state legislators or state senators so um we had a student board a student advisory board the superintendent student advisor board meeting on tuesday and it's the responsibility of the student board representatives to attend those meetings report back to our board uh what happened in those meetings but also kind of anything or any news that's happening in the high school anything that the board should be made aware of and also events that the board could possibly be attending and so uh thank you so much ella and and me for for uh taking on this role in addition to everything else as seniors applying for colleges uh gosh your your list of uh of your your to-do list is is much longer than mine probably so i appreciate
020both of you for for joining us this evening and this will be their first evening so they discuss like who goes first what does who does what what do we do i said it's informal it's a conversation and so i just want to welcome you to to our meeting and have your report out on our meeting on tuesday and any other matters of interest so thank you mead and ella i'm gonna mute now hi everybody um thank you so much for having me this is pretty exciting for me actually um all right i think um yeah i think i'll just get started i think the main issue that a lot of students are um looking at right now and that's really surrounding most of the student body is just how um this semester and like
021the term system that um we've put in place for this semester has been going and how we want it to go for the future um and so you know currently we it's only three classes a term which um most students agree that that was really the best option for the school board to take in terms of scheduling and just workload in general most students agree that having only three classes it's a pretty manageable workload overall um and that six classes really just would have been way too much especially for seniors who are obviously busy with college obligations and all sorts of things um i think another big issue with the system right now is that via online learning it's just um it's just obviously hard for teachers to express all of the curriculum material that
022needs to be expressed and that this is especially important in ap classes as a lot of students especially seniors right now are taking a lot of classes that are at the ap level and they want to be prepared for the ap test once may rolls around um and you know i think there's questions about how much of the material they're actually getting for these ap classes if it's um the right amount of material they need to pass the test next semester um and so that in itself is a concern for students um there's definitely a lot of difficulties surrounding the amount of screen time that kids are on the screens um you know it affects a lot of students just physically and um you know it's and it affects everyone obviously um so just like
023everyone here students are really looking to go back to hybrid learning as fast as we can um that's obviously an issue in itself that will be discussed in length i'm sure but um as soon as we can go back to school in some way or another the better um and then the last thing is that students aren't a big fan of how quickly the two terms are transitioning into each other um so term one is supposed to end on november 3rd which is election night and then november 4th the day after is the beginning of uh term two um and it's really from a tuesday to a wednesday which is i don't know a pretty abrupt transition that a lot of students are just not are pretty opposed to and you know i'm sure there's
024a lot of reasons why this was chosen or maybe there isn't but uh if there was a way to fix that transition i think that would a lot of students would really appreciate that and yeah i think ella is gonna talk about um solution now that a lot of students are would appreciate thank you yeah so one of the biggest concerns i'd say that was brought up at the meeting was how fast the quarters went by and how little time there is to improve your grade over the course of the quarter because getting a bad grade on one assignment can tank your grade for the rest of the quarter so there was talk of um and i know some teachers are already doing this but keeping the gradebook open until january so that there can
025be opportunities during the off quarter for uh first quarter classes to give um just like opportunities to improve your grade and bring them up until the gradebook is finalized in january and making that a universal policy um at least at the high school was a very popular idea and then also we discussed the mascot and everybody seemed perfectly happy to just keep it staying the same and um any school events that are coming up i there's not really much but the pirate podcast is definitely worth a listen is is our board familiar with the pirate pod is that the one your interview on a couple weeks ago that's when i was interviewed on uh with zach yeah so uh one one new student advisory board member is uh zach van duzen and he along with
026several other uh folks uh several of the seniors kids um put on a pirate podcast and i will make sure that every board member and that actually every community member gets a link to the pirate pod uh because it's uh it's it's a hoop first of all and it's fun to see how um our students engage during the time of pandemic so it's one of those rare little little treasures is it just is it just zach or is he is it zach and others yeah it's it's zach and others on a variety of topics and they're they're they're pretty they're pretty uh right now most of the podcasts have been fairly brief you know kind of 10 minutes or under so it's totally doable to put on your radio or put it put a list
027on pretty quick uh hey uh ella and and me i'm i appreciate you coming tonight i i do off the hook a little bit but uh can you just share a little bit about yourself this is your first board meeting with uh with our board um if if you could just kind of give a a one two minute introduction for yourselves i forgot to ask you to do that and that would be wonderful if you would indulge me yeah i can okay i'll go um yeah hi i'm mead um i'm a senior at vhs i um i'm currently the copy and online editor for the riptide this year um which is really exciting um i play baseball for the school uh i'm on the cross country team right now too um a lot of you
028might know my mom too uh her name is aristigo and she works at chautauqua um yeah and she she is fluent in french and uh i picked up french throughout the years so yeah that's basically me thank you okay i'm ellie yarkin i'm also a senior at the high school and i've lived on the island my whole life i play bagpipes um i'm working as a dishwasher right now but during the summer i instruct sailing at the sailing camp um i play bagpipes i am the captain of the cross country team i also do track and field in the spring and yeah that's me in a nutshell do either of you have interests after high school yeah um i want to go into mechanical engineering yeah i'm i'm looking to go into um communications or
029journalism something surrounding that great well thank you so much for joining us the two of you and uh just uh it's it's wonderful having you aboard and we'll we'll see you again on in november and i and lord i did let them know that kind of as a tradition if uh you know we would like to say the entire meeting but if they have other obligations homework uh etc that they are welcome to after their report to take leave so all right thank you ella thank you mean hey thank you thanks so much thanks thank you guys good reporting board yeah i was going to take a stellar job right out of the gate you guys i was really very good job on your report appreciate it all right we're gonna move on then to
030the next report which is on special education in person learning update from catherine coleman good evening everybody um first of all i'd like to say here we are toward the end of october and i've come in front of you about this time every year for the past four years i'd like to point out i have a voice i'm not just about ready to to um dive into pneumonia i'm actually the healthiest i've been at this time of year and years so uh wear a mask social distance it does great stuff for you yeah nice huh so i'm here to talk about our in-person learning our uh special ed department in specific and um our administrators have been working really hard really since august to really to slowly and intentionally bring our neediest students back into
031the building we started in the middle of september with our ecap classroom our preschoolers some of our most vulnerable students we now have 18 students as of today 18 students enrolled in the program we cap out at 20. 12 of those students a 13th one will be added next week are currently attending school two days a week from nine o'clock in the morning until 12 30 in the morning the rest of the students are all being served remotely and so they are receiving their curriculum delivered to them by the the teachers in the program as well as some uh online learning um as well the plan for that uh group is to slowly increase as families become more comfortable so that we have um 10 students in each cohort attending monday wednesday and tuesday thursday
032chautauqua is um oh thank you jody chitako is just geared up to begin uh next week um you'll notice in my third column over it says a total of 13 students have been offered services i um that's a typo on my part it's actually 31. total of 31 students have been offered services these students range from preschool through grade five they are our teachers spent a lot of time really taking a look at a number of different criteria to determine who really was being less successful in our online learning um and that really focused on those students to bring them in the in all three of our buildings the focus of our in-person learning is starting with teaching kids to access the general ed learning that's happening online and uh and that's happening in all
033three buildings and and will be the focus at chautauqua as well there will also be small groups that are are teaching specific skills that are directly tied into the students ieps and then there will be social skills groups as well and one of the the hardest parts for our students right now is those students who have um social skills deficits to begin with and really really need to be interacting sorry the cat really need to be interacting with their peers are having a really difficult time doing that in this environment of course and so we are going to bring kids together to work on those social skills as well at mcmurray they um brought back a group of kids in uh oh i'm sorry i'm going to go back to chautauqua for a sec those
034those groups will be also separated into a number of different cohorts there will be some students that are coming in the morning monday for two days two hours there'll be some students that are coming in the afternoon for two days two hours and there's there's a lot of kind of intricate scheduling in there because there there's a small group of kids it's only coming for an hour and a half there's another small group of kids that'll be there for up to three hours and so it's very individualized the plan that they have we have also set up a classroom in the garden uh with with tents um in the garden area so that they can choose to either work outdoors um in the garden or in the classroom and the groups will be moving back
035and forth depending on the need depending on the weather mcmurray started on september 25th right now they are bringing students in on fridays only uh they we offered service to 12 students at mcmurray we currently have six attending really regularly two more are expected to join this week the focus at mcmurray solely has been on coaching students to access their online learning the report from mcmurray is that um as a result of doing that the the uh it's beginning to transfer that skills beginning to transfer when the students are at home so those students who have been at school and being coached to access their general ed classes are now accessing those classes more from home and that was really the goal because that's where so much of the really important learning is happening so
036we were pretty excited about that i just talked with that team today about kind of what is the next step um for expanding that first for a few students that have some very particular needs at the high school they started on the 7th of october they are bringing students in monday through thursday during regular school hours they we offered service to 14 students and currently 10 are coming in and they are also now looking at the next couple of kids on the list um to begin to add students to that ten they're in two cohorts cohorts excuse me they each attend two days a week the the focus at the high school is split a bit um the first the first focus just like at the other two schools is how can we um help
037students improve their skills to be able to access their learning in their general ed classes and then we also have some students that are um are getting some some very focused instruction on skills relevant to their iep danny wanted me to be sure and tell you about we also have some ell students that are starting up this week at the high school we have three students coming in two days a week for the length of the school day and they also have a crew of ninth grade at-risk students those students are being supervised by the administrators and the counselors and their whole goal is to come in and log on from the school a place where they have greater bandwidth access and they also have some supervision to be able to ask questions of the
038adults that are supporting them both the middle school and the high school are also having drop-in appointments um with the counseling staff so students are able to access the counselors um one on one tonight i'm sorry the the three new uh students at the high school were are they new uh students at the high school or knew into the the ell students new to the program sorry they are um they are are new to the in-person learning group in that up to this point it has just been students who receive special ed services now they have added on students who receive ell services as well if we i'm going to show you one more thing and then i'll open it up for more questions if we want to scroll down oops or open to the
039there we go there it is i just wanted to be able to show you guys something that can bring a smile to your face when we when we look at the amount of work that goes into planning to bring our kids into in-person in in-person learning there's really a lot of nuance we're asking kids to come in into a situation that doesn't really look like school we're asking kids to um to not socialize with their friends in the way that they're used to we're asking them to to wear masks we're asking them to be there for a much shorter time so many of you know mary michael collins she's one of our special ed teachers at the elementary school and she put together this beautiful social story that she sent out to her students that
040really explains what they can expect to have happen jody you can go ahead and just scroll through it so you can see she used lots of visuals to describe what would be happening in monday and wednesday and it would be happening on tuesdays and thursdays explaining that the groups would be small and everybody would be wearing masks together she did such a nice job on this and it's such a great example of what um of the kind of strategies that we're using in order to really teach and prepare kids to be able to be successful when they walk in the door have questions for me oh my last comment was to say when i counted up all of the kids that are coming in who receive special ed services we are now serving or will
041be by next week um over 25 percent of our special ed students will be receiving some level of in-person learning so that felt pretty good to me when i did when i did that math um so my questions are the ninth grade at-risk students um are they coming in are they coming in and getting help with schools with online learning stuff or are they getting um help with social skills or what's that looking like what they're um getting is really structured access to their learning so they um they're i think they're out in the commons um spaced out and the they're being supervised by the counselors and by the administrators the goal is to give them kind of a a safe place to be able to access their learning and to be able to ask
042questions so the instruction for them is still the same um virtual instruction it's just in a more structured space right these were ninth graders these were ninth graders who were not engaging um and so by by by bringing them in inviting them in um this was some of the first times that they were actually logging into their classrooms or on a more regular basis and able to access that and gus and danny and counselors uh both supervise the commons which again provides that that space for social distancing um and as catherine said that you know strong bandwidth so they can access their classes do we have that our um i mean it's understandable about the ninth graders but what about 10th 11th one step at a time okay i like that i like that first
043step yeah right oh i think that's it spring oh okay so yeah i really appreciate the chart catherine and all the information it's really helpful um i was curious about um i noticed you know of course you can only offer the in in person learning and some of those students declined and their families and i'm i'm wondering um and maybe you mentioned something but um how are we trying to accommodate those other students because i imagine you were very selective about um as you said who those students were that you identified and so i you know i am i wonder if we can't bring them in person are we doing anything extra to support them yeah so the first criteria in the the in in the decision making to decide who to invite to came
044come in was really looking at the data both from last spring and from the first couple weeks of school to see who was who was accessing um their learning and who was being successful when they were able to access so those students who especially because of their disability were unable to access learning electronically or virtually were the kind of the first line of kids that we invited in and and it's true that not all parents feel comfortable even even in as controlled of an environment as we have created in the school to bring their students in one of the things that that looks very different right now um in special education than it looks when we are typically in school is the amount of time that our para educators are spending um sitting in the
045general education sessions and the the purpose of that is really to be watching um what what it is the expectation that the teacher has for the students and then using the technology to be able to come as much as possible alongside the students to do virtual coaching on how to i mean things as simple as that's the button that you push right there and this is the next thing that you do and um i i have to tell you it's been it's been really interesting to listen to the ways that the teachers and the paras have figured out how to use uh technology um uh one of the the special ed teachers at chautauqua today was describing to me that they have they have two um two sessions open at the same time two google
046meet sessions and they have the student have two google meet sessions open at the same time and they've taught them to be listening over here to the teacher and then when they have a question they move themselves over here to where the para is kind of whispering in their ear it sounds mind-blowingly complicated to me but but it's one of those strategies that that is very different than the way we typically do business in order to try and engage more kids that's great so they're definitely getting one-on-one attention like they would um in the school setting um probably more so than they would yeah other people might have questions but i always appreciate hearing like what is working well and the challenges too you know i imagine there's so many but maybe just highlighting like
047a couple that stand out in your mind that um you're noticing and you're maybe you're trying to address right i think that the the um what i just described as a part of what's working well in that the adults are really are figuring out how to use the technology in a way that we're being able to access students more the the challenge the biggest challenge is those students for whom the technology has very little meaning or very little motivation in being able to get them to come to the screen and then when we have a number of students who when they do come to the screen are have a very difficult time engaging with a person in in this environment or whose anxiety makes it really difficult to be able to engage meaningfully and and
048so then it really becomes an individual student by student problem solving and um and the basis of that problem solving really lies in the relationship between the adults and and the students to do some really active listening and and take the next step and and and that concept of just taking the next step is um has been become my mantra for this year so far in that everything that we're doing is really about okay now what are we going to do next all right now let's do the next and to be as thoughtful and patient as we can be figuring out what the next step is thank you for the question spring it was a good one and um thank you for the presentation all right good night everybody thank you thanks catherine thank catherine
049thank you thank you catherine thanks to your team thanks very much it's it's particularly interesting to hear the stuff that's going on that we can't see at all and to hear those struggles really puts it together that's helpful right all right then i'm gonna move on to uh matt's presentation of business and operations update sure hello all um as provided to you is our normal monthly financial report along with enrollment i know we touched enrollment at the last meeting so i won't touch upon it here but i will thank you jody uh touch upon the dashboard and of course as you know we are through the first month of our fiscal year which happens to be the calendar september through august in particular we're 8.3 percent through the fiscal year and looking at the month
050of september we have expenditures at about 7.6 and we have revenues at about 7.3 percent both are under budget at this point of course revenues typically are because we receive our taxes our local taxes in october and april and our expenditures are a bit under due to the start of the year with no in-person learning otherwise everything else looks fairly normal and like i said we discussed enrollment at the last meeting but if you have any questions i'm here to answer those no questions thank you matt appreciate it welcome we can just then go ahead and jump into the fiscal year end report i am pleased to present uh the fiscal year end report for 2019 with the amazing mcmurray mustangs logo on because the previous two reports i had this ces orcas and the
051national highlander fashion island high school pirates so it was turned it was this it was time for the mcmurray mustangs um let's move on to page one jody there's an opening on a letter there but on page one we have started the executive summary and this starts to break down uh our five different funds that we have as the national island school district and it gives some little background and definition to our general fund capital projects fund debt service fund asb or associated student body fund in our transportation fund and then we get to start the meet of the presentation if you will on page two we look at total expenditures for all district funds are all our five funds and we compare actual 2018 2019 to actual 2019-2020 in particular we see throughout the
052document like our budget documents like this year-end document every time you see a table like this below you will see the analysis and explanation if you will as to why the percent change increase and or decrease in this case we see a general fund change of plus 4.4 percent and this was due to salary and benefit increases in our capital projects fund we see a minus 67.8 percent and i do want to point this one out this is due to as you know we adopt a budget effectively a year and year and a half you know before this document comes out what we were trying to do when working with brandy fox our capital projects manager was as best as we could in that budgeted number uh look at what would be finished in regard
053to our bond projects and what would we not and we wanted to get a number in there that would cover the cost of mainly this case the facilities building which of course is not done yet but soon to be we want to make sure we had a budgeted figure in there just in case it was completed which it was not but we wanted to cover our bases just in case uh debt service a decrease of foreign remind me um total cost of the facilities building was what it is you wanted a budget capacity to complete it and we didn't complete it so could you just remind me what the total cost of the project was it's going to be what about 1.52 million dollars when it's all said and done okay but there's two point
054roughly a 2.4 million dollar uh differential between budget and actual what right another million million yeah another million dollars in there would have been um a permitting interior etc but the general construction i believe if i recall brandy is about 1.5 to 2 million so we're just trying to compensate for any loose ends tying up except that we could find and do but where's the where's the balance there's that's what i'm not understanding so forgive me um we we budgeted 3.4 we expanded just under a million right because we have not completed the facilities building at this point and but how much of that is outstanding uh i don't know off the top of my head bob i'd have to take a look at it okay okay nobody uh and then debt service is a
0554.2 percent decrease and this is merely due to the amateurise enter schedule of our debt service payments of our bonds that we have outstanding uh asb of course and this is where i want to touch upon a theme throughout this document is we saw a 50.4 decrease and of course obviously the pandemic hit us in march and we saw this decrease due to cancellation of asb events you know because of school closure you know trips etc events and it goes on and on um and throughout like i said this document you'll see this theme that we're all very much aware of and then transportation there was uh no no purchases of bus and so hence there's zero dollars there did we collect a lot of revenues from people that they didn't get a benefit from
056gosh uh that's a good question um you're actually very uh good questions this time i i don't know i couldn't answer the question i think that would be for one of the asp advisors to answer and what happened this time so i mean we theoretically collected dues and fees from from people for which they did not receive a benefit i'm not suggesting we give it all back but so is that what happened here the differential correct i mean there are there are trips uh several international or two international trips that were canceled if i'm correct um and it would be the decision of the asb and their advisor the student group to either hold on to that money refund i know we have given refunds out uh across the board uh but obviously there's still
057money sitting there and so that was a decision of the asb group for the school uh matt i have a quick question on the capital projects um you indicate that so we budgeted for 3.4 million our actual was sorry debt services 3.6 million almost 3.7 our actual is 3.26 and you say the differences because of the um it was due to the advertised scheduled bond payments but don't we don't we know exactly what the schedule of bond payments is in advance um we do we have we have a pretty close estimate of that and we rely on bond council to give us that figure um but you see it's it was 3.2 was the payment so but um i'm not i'm not after a gotcha i'm just trying to no that's within context like if
058i on on our house mortgage i know exactly every month i have a huge matrix that shows what is due so there would like to the dollar i can budget uh exactly what we're gonna pay is there a variable portion of our debt services uh not that i know for the top of my head no but we want to make sure and ensure that we can make all of those payments and it's really out of our hands for the most part this is to the king county treasurer's office that acts as our banker and makes these payments to in fact it's bank of new york mellon who is the lending agent on our on our bonds and so they're happy we're happy and i just the number we pull is coming from piper sandler that
059budgeted amount and the actually spent was 3.2 so we paid our bills uh that there is a gap there and i could look into it further if you'd like i don't want to create a project but it is curious to me that it seems like we should we should uh have a budget that is more predictable than than that for that type of expenditure my guess is that there's something that i just don't understand about the belief of it so i'd be i'd be curious but i'm not concerned okay uh one more asp question matt i'm sorry why did our uh 2018-19 actual of 272 go up to 589 budgeted the following year what was the why why the jump um it's based on several things it's international travel for one thing they ramp up
060and it's using every other year process and also it could be based on you know obviously that's not significant but whatever dances or events said class wants to fundraise for and gear up for in some places the freshman or sophomore classes will say we want to go here and do this seattle aquarium etc and that is a larger expenditure than others and they will save up and and fundraise for that event for several years to obtain that goal or they're going to costa rica and that'll be in every other year or they're going to japan and that'll be in every other year so they're they're ramping up for those type of expenditures so i mean this is perhaps overly simplistic but that's the way my brain works um do we have 450 000 more in
061asb than we could have expected had that we not had a pandemic is that yeah i think that's accurate yeah okay that's a big number right so we can move on to page three and it's simple uh pie graphs pie charts if you will uh comparing the similar numbers we just saw 18 19 actual expenditures by fund to 1920 actual expenditures by fund percentage breakdown and on page four we move to revenues as we just discussed expenditures and of course once again where you see the table and below is the analysis we look at actual 1819 to actual 1920 and everything uh plays out fairly logical here general fund we had a 3.3 percent increase uh due to a slight of course state does provide a little bit of increase in state apportionment and a
062slight increase in special education funding in the capital projects fund we saw an eight point six percent decrease uh that's due to completion of projects and in turn less interest earned by the district and then debt service fund a four and a half percent increase to the once again the schedule upon payments and then the asb was minus of course 34.9 percent decrease um and then transportation fund was a obviously a 56.6 decrease state transportation depreciation funding on page five so right point of clarification um i think this probably may answer bob's question i i think bob i think you said does that mean we we have 400 grand that's correct and then you see the difference here is that we actually collected revenues really down here yeah there's not a 400 grand goose egg
063there's a it's closer to the 10 or 15 or whatever that delta is yeah all right good on page five once again we have uh at least on the revenue side in 1819 actual revenues by fund pie chart in comparison to the 1920 actual revenues by fund then on page six we look at uh overall fund balance and the top there's of course definition of what the five funds are and we're comparing obviously 18 19 actual to 1920 and then percent change and of course there's the table on six and my apologies i kind of got cut off but i moved it on to page seven the explanation um and you notice that there's a 1819 general fund fund balance in 1920 there is an increase a 14 increase and um of course here's the
064theme again and with the scoop you know with school closures due to the pandemic we saw an increase in the fund balance um we saw a decrease hence an increase in the fund balance but increase of substitute pay we saw a savings of some of our utilities because obviously no students in the building um also we had intended initially with the budget group and we worked on that a decrease in the msoc budget that was due to our uh cap on our uh cap on our uh epno levy from the state so we actively work to at least decrease decrease as much as we could that was effective and we also to offset that we obviously received cares act funding of 121 thousand dollars and then we also saw uh supplemental ecap funds and forty
065one thousand i i really wanted to note on this this difference of 1819 of 1.5 to 1920 of 1.8 105 000 of that of course is the field turf reserve that you all as a board have dictated that we suck that away for 15 years and that grows obviously 35 000 from general fund and 35 000 from our cap tech levy into that fund to at the end of 15 years hopefully and or in some way help pay for or renovate the field that we've just installed at the high school so 105 000 of that 1.8 fund balance is that field turf reserve along with other offsetting savings if you will that i noted you walk us through the the my memory is lagging the half and half general fund versus capital fund on um
066the field turf levy why why why wasn't it all cap money did we we made a policy decision back some point to have half and half as a part of the bond resolution if i recall this is 2017 now um it was to for a 15-year period uh pull 35 000 from the general fund and 35 000 from the cap tech levy you know obviously they have to live in their two different funds and to sock away the savings each year this seventy thousand dollars uh builds every single year uh to i guess renovate the field and or have money at the end uh to uh put in a new turf field well i understand but what again uh well we could conceivably have done it all cap capital money and no general funds yes
067and there was a policy policy decision at the time is that correct correct yes it was to split it but you're absolutely right they could have done general fund all they could have done it all from cap cap tech too okay matt what's the current uh fund balance as a percent of the budget um as in 1920 or as in 2021 i um i see that we probably 2021 yeah right i mean where we are now yeah as if we stand as of september it's about uh 1.72 million and geez rough math on that for me off the top of my head is about 1.7 6.7 and does that cover the month of salaries that's a great question no it doesn't um so expenditures for the month as a whole with m sock and salaries
068are about 1.9 million and we have a fund balance right now about 1.7 million at the end of september all right okay good thank you yep uh where was i um sorry no no it's okay uh i think we have debt service at about uh point twenty percent and an associate student body had a plus twenty two percent increase due to the school closure yet again and transportation fund was uh plus nineteen point seven uh percent increase of the fund balance and that's because transportation is funded in our case because we do not do our own transportation and busing we do it through a contractor for student which in turn is covered from the state because we are a contract agency um we receive those funds uh through depreciation of the buses that we actually
069own and it it you know gives us about fourteen to sixteen thousand dollars a year and we we put that away sock that away until we have the need and i think about three or four years ago we bought a big bus and just beginning this year we have bought a new little bus to replace and of course he surplus that in the springtime and we will upon receipt to the new bus then advertise for the bus to be sold moving to page eight we have general funds start to get more granular into the general fund uh summary we have a little pie chart of a 1920 total actual revenue by source and i start below this to kind of break down what those sources are local taxes and support and kind of a definition
070of what those are what they look like uh 71 percent is state general and special purpose on to page nine we have uh federal at four percent and then of course our other financing sources at five and a half percent um and particularly other since it's not as specific as the others are you know includes mainly this is our commons agreement with the park district and of course our transfers in from our capital uh cap tech levy into the general fund we have total expenditures for the general fund and it's different way to look at as you know our these massive long accounting codes that we hold as a school district they have different parts of them whether it be program to location but this one is looking at object and it breaks it down
071a little bit more specific for you all for us in particular we look at obviously 1819 1920 salaries certified the change we look at salaries classified we look at benefits supplies and materials purchase services travel and capital purchases and of course with that once again the table we have the analysis below it and we look at why the changes increase or decrease um on to page 10 um we have more explanation as to why the percent increase decrease in our changes and this year i added a little bit more because supplies and materials are kind of general so i gave a little more definition as to what exactly supplies materials mean and i also did that for purchase services and capital outlay and then below that is the 1920 actual expenditures by general fund and
072the breakdown via pie chart onto page 11 i always have to mention these are the laura wishik charts she requested these and we put those in ever since and we look at the historical general fund actual revenues versus budget from 2013 14 to 1920 and then on page 12 we have historical general fund actual expenditures versus budget and of course below that is the more interesting one the historical fund balance beginning versus ending you can see our roller coaster ride over the years of our fund balance and then 13 i think is an important uh table to take a look at at the top is our year end 1920 general fund ending fund balance allocations and kind of where the money goes and lives in particular um we have different areas that you know we
073have restricted committed assigned and unassigned um and committed our things are typically you know via resolution and bob this kind of touches upon your question you can look at the 1819 and 1920 allocation at the top is committed to other purpose which in this case is the field turf reserve um and then we have restricted for carryover and this is tangible kind of cash in the bank these are donations cte dollars received from the state that we didn't spend this year that we carry over and keep and then also lap and then a new one is what they've asked us to do and they mean the puget sound ps esd and ospi is our food service inventory and this isn't cash in the bank shall we say this is we look at the you know
074dry goods and our pantry and our shelf at our you know central district kitchen which is in our high school and what is the value that we have of that and then we have committed to curriculum professional development if we have dollars to place in there we have unassigned which is the minimum fund balance of 6.5 and then we have our assigned to benefit liability which is our sick leave and then we have kind of our actual year-end totals 18 19 and 19 20. at the bottom of 13 we have kind of a more i guess specific and defined of our four other funds kind of actual 1819 to 1920 capital projects and debt service fund it looks like it cut off the debt service title there but it belongs on page 14 and on
075page 15 we look at district-wide information and some verbage around our assets liabilities and fund balance and then on page 16 we look at our physical assets and then 17 we have year end enrollment chart that we'd like to like to keep in there then 18 is the start of our you know kind of our binary report the state requires we do not have yet as it sits in the hands of our ps esd waiting for their approval and it should be any day now and then we combine that together and and bind that up and it's ready for public consumption really great thank you so much matt does anybody have questions for matt i just wanted to say thank you ma i mean it's it's really i'm not really smart at these sorts of
076things and you slice and dice the information that um it's it's understandable to even to a liberal arts major so uh i mean you really it's a quality report and it's uh like i said it's portrayed in a way that's very understandable so thank you thank you and thanks for the tech questions uh bob toby i appreciate them i really do and toby i will get you an answer i will speak with bond council on that one uh obligations responsibilities as a board is to attend to the budget and absolutely you know over the course of the years that i've been participating um i've continued to learn more about it but you do lay it out in such a way that there's just no surprises uh and that makes that makes our job a lot
077easier thank you and and always if there is something that you want to see in these reports or something that's missing or something that i can uh parse out to make it easier and more digestible easy to understand please please please let me know i'm open to that okay since you've offered would you tell me if this is a rational way to present the information on the the wish chart yes would it be possible to put enrollment in there at a an additional line for enrollment which is a sort of a surrogate for costs yeah would you like to see something where it's you know i'm assuming you're going to see a similar chart you could overlay you put include in that chart enrollment i don't know if board members don't want this i don't
078want to donate do you are you talking about the uh the actual versus budget that one yes yeah i think interesting it'd be interesting for me to see how enrollment tracks i mean how costs well revenues track with enrollment over time yeah well absolutely yeah i can easily do that i hope it's easy because if it's not it is yeah it'll just take a few weeks give the man a pay raise you notice why none of our high school students said they wanted to be public sector accountants and finance members they're not here they're not here to see the glory of your work man if it is a lot of work i don't want to you know it's just kind of a a what if thing for me no it's it's not that much i'd
079be happy to put that in there i really i thank you and i just her transparency i called matt this afternoon asked a bunch of questions too that was super helpful so thank you for that but also i i really appreciate the um the fun balance uh chart that that's one sort of speaks to my heart too and i really like that i like how we're doing it now so um thank you it's a lot it's almost there's so much work in this so thank you there is there's a lot thank you very much i just have one last um since you were you were opening that up to any requests or suggest suggestions um i have to to be fair i really need to take i think a closer look i hadn't had time
080to to really um look at it closely um but always it seems very concise and accurate but um because i think my my brain um bless my cpa father who always wished i had probably had a different kind of math brain really really can wrap my my mind around things that are more i think um in narrative form and i remember what like with the budget you would usually give that that narrative you know sort of this summative narrative that just kind of for even like uh the lay person since it's this is made available to the public just does like one more little stretch with sort of a maybe a summative or evaluative type of narrative like you know financial outlook is good you know or here things that you're highlighting even perhaps like
081you know like concerning things or this is you know because it's just for my brain to kind of go further with so many numbers so many dollars it it's just you know some interpretation does that make sense or i don't know if anyone else feels the need for that but like when you were sitting down to bet with matt asking questions just probably i bet you i had some similar questions for example and it would be great if that was just available whatever sort of how you walked through some of that stuff so maybe it would save you time than having to do one-off individual meetings with us or i don't know just a just a thought my preference in the written or my feedback on that is in the written document i don't think
082we want a lot of narrative because it can lead towards opinion or feelings that might not be relative in the same context later so it's more of an official document in that regard but i do think in the oral presentation it is more appropriate yeah it doesn't need to be in the formal report anyway i mean it's great i think it it's really clear but i think um probably just a a little bit more interpretation um would be helpful so anyway we don't have to oh you're you're you're asking a good question uh and i you there are kind of two sides of that coin as toby was kind of speaking to and then um i i think even as a superintendent um you know matt and i obviously have conversations on a weekly basis
083um and we we basically make evaluations right where are we how are we tracking right is this are we on track are we not is this good is this bad kind of in some ways very simplistic like that um and as toby said this document probably is not geared towards that but i think in the report um if the board members want to hear more of a of an interpretation um we can certainly prepare uh you know to to work with the board members let them know like yes we're we're we're on track we're we're doing well or we're not you know our fund balance was not where we were anticipated to be and that was disappointing uh you know uh things like that uh is that what you're kind of talking about spring kind
084of yeah just highlighting you know it doesn't have to be anything really in depth just sort of highlighting a little more interpretation a little more value evaluative i guess um just this is this is concern concerning we're really on track we're doing even better than we thought we we anticipated just i think my brain would grasp it a lot more easily so not a big deal but it would be helpful yeah that's good good good feedback thank you all right it looks like we've probably covered that one thank you again matt i really appreciate all your work as always i'm always amazed that those tube lines for uh budgeted in actual are almost the same line and the wish report that's pretty good congratulations for keeping that going thank you especially now it's about to
085become the hennessy graph though it's a fantasy amendment all right we'll move on now to the school year update from dr slade mcsteaky yeah thank you board uh i don't have a a whole lot to report back to the board on our school year update this evening yesterday i sent out an email again was yesterday or last week i sent out a community update to our our folks uh families uh letting them know i i know that rebecca garcia was sending out some communication regarding where we were with the king county uh coveted activity rate uh at the time that i looked at it was 90 cases per 100 000 over the last 14 days and even as i checked uh this evening just a few hours ago we're at 90 we're at 94. so
086we were at 93 then at 90 and now 94. they're updating it daily it's just recently that they began to update it daily by the way but this is definitely the high in the high activity level range and we had indicated oh gosh three weeks or four weeks ago we were you know kind of planning for a november 9th time frame of trying to bring back some kindergarten students in a hybrid learning model um right now that that that timeline is kind of suspended and we're we're going to be we're not going to be um setting in future timelines i i think uh that would be a disservice to some of our families i appreciate what rebecca is trying to do those just to get as much information as possible from families and i appreciate
087molly york's uh letter this evening saying how can you know how can you ask how can you ask us information um there really is uh probably no right or wrong way um you know we would like more information at the same time sometimes we know asking that information may cause undue anxiety um we apologize for that i i don't i don't have another um you know kind of another way to look at it we are trying to do the best we can uh with the information that we have but we are going to move off that november 9th that deadline we we will continue to take a careful and cautious approach i continue to say that we will continue to look at the daily rate we will from king county for public health seattle king
088county we will continue to look at the decision-making tree and the decision-making tree has been updated to allow for some extracurricular activities uh that is one thing important to note that there's been some a few adjustments they they just went out in an email today i'll share with you that um one of the updates was that the decision-making tree is allowing some extracurricular activities such as sports or things happening but in very small groups with very strict protocols in place but in terms of any you know significant groups of students coming back in i don't see that happening uh in the near future and we'd like to see three to four weeks of of ranges in the moderate range uh which is under 75 uh to provide to provide that kind of stability so if
089we were to see you know two or three weeks of moderate range activity uh it would be at that point in time that we began to signal to families that that we would maybe be making a move towards bringing back our kindergartners back it's just not the direction we we want to see it going we've obviously seen an increase kind of nationwide in activity and washington or king county has not been immune to that that trend in terms of the reopening team and and and focus groups there's not a whole lot to update there i will say that the we are looking at trying to get a latino uh community focus group meeting set i've reached out to community dad to cynthia ramos to to invite her back into planning with me what the agenda
090might look like for that meeting what the goals and priorities for that group might look like and so i hope to hear back from them soon um the outdoor learning group has has met once and uh their focus is with kindergartners and uh again with the eye on the future not right now but what what some opportunities might be to expand some of the kind of curriculum and activities and experiences for students into the outdoors would look like and then the community engagement group has been going has been meeting we met this week and reviewed the distance learning survey i was tempted to share the survey results with the board this evening but we felt it more appropriate for our buildings to have a look at that data first and uh and be able to
091kind of do some interpretations i will kind of put a teaser out there the data was um i think my expectations around how our families were experiencing distance learning uh the data uh you shed some light on what's actually happening they had a strong uh you know kind of response rate um but expect that data to be shared at the november 12th meeting once our our building teams and had a chance to look at that there are some real tangible the good news is that there's some tangible kind of what can we do right now to help and i think that's the important part and the buildings are going to get after that pretty quickly i want to just give a measure of appreciation to the community members not district folks who have been leading
092that community engagement focus group joe hutton and chris peliquin but there's again several uh other community members who are part of that team albany branson uh you know who was and uh and um oh gosh uh heather rose weaver so uh and then you know rebecca on the team just lots of folks on that team who have been very helpful gus andrew gus and and just kind of shaping and interpreting that data um other than that i i'm i'm i'm here for questions uh for kind of a q a if the board has any other questions about the opening school year anything that's been happening most recently that you'd like to learn more about but other than that that's the school year update right now these guys groups take minutes or is that does that
093happen are there minutes from these meetings there's agendas and there's notes and minutes uh yes ongoing is it accessible i mean is it easily transmissible to the board i don't want to create additional workload i'm sorry it's just a shared document could uh i could you coach me through getting access to the document absolutely not okay okay nobody wants to coach me on anything no it's it's uh again it's easy i can't bob i i did it trust me i can provide i can just provide links to the to the entire board uh of these agendas and um you know to which how the notes are taken or how the minutes are taken uh so if you're if you'd like i can do the reopening team uh which we take you know we have an
094agenda in minutes too and then uh the different groups have their own uh google docs uh they have links to them that you can have access to as well again i don't want to create more work so it's an email it's you know as unfortunately like like matt was saying it's going to take him weeks and weeks and weeks to get the data uh this will take me three minutes and spring that'll be 15 for you to coach me 15 huh sounds good toby did you have a question you unmuted yourself and reagan no i'll go after you okay well i was just gonna i was curious thinking that um it sounds like it's gone relatively smoothly with ecap and so i you know i i think that was really encouraging to hear so much
095from catherine and you know we haven't had any health scares you know i would we would have heard about it right and so i know this is a just a small um portion of students but also really little ones who are sort of harder to control sometimes in terms of in the environment learning environment so i'm just imagining that that that is in part kind of informing sort of what how that might go or things that their challenges are working through you know again our idea is bringing them back gradually but that's giving us some data right there right this in-person learning that whenever we're preparing and ramping up for hybrid if it can happen there's already some some evidence there of what might be working well even though each building is going to be
096really different but that was my thinking i don't know if that is how how the committee is thinking or they're talking to the committee that is that is it what it what it doesn't sometimes what it doesn't highlight or make visible is the amount of uh preparation and work that folks are doing behind the scenes to uh gosh the the the amount of work that goes into the protocols um you know the catherine and the ecap folks and each building principal sarah day and everybody that puts into the time into planning the protocols uh which essentially center around the mitigation strategies um i can tell you that the number of hours that probably sarah and catherine folks have spent on just attestation or isolation is is significant that's an understatement so um but i think
097what you're highlighting spring what i'm hearing is that the value in bringing back small groups is that we get to do this in in ways and then kind of work through the protocols work through the bugs um you know early in the process so that if if we ever get to where we can bring students back at some degree in hybrid learning our youngest students we will have some significant experience and you know kind of you know in our backpacks to to then kind of light the way forward you know because again uh districts in the in the region just how we're trying to do attestation and isolation rooms and who's going to staff them the you know do you need a kn five n fives king five with shield uh who's at risk who's
098not at risk the staffing available um it's kind of like a a a jigsaw for sure so but we're in a good place in terms of you know how we're bringing back students successfully you're right we haven't seen any kind of significant uh you know health event and so knock on wood i'd like to keep it that way did i um sense a little a nod towards a pivot that we're identifying things that we can do now to help uh students be in teachers be successful in today's learning environment um is that one of the takeaways of the this community insight and i'm being too obtuse i like the idea i mean we're planning at some point for a hybrid return but i really like the idea of of paying attention to what we're doing
099right now and what the needs are uh and i know i know we've been doing that but uh if that was a little highlight i saw there i'm celebrating that yeah absolutely uh you're right and in the comments and the feedback one of the purposes of the community engagement group or one of the priorities to make sure that we're that we're getting feedback and that we're acting on the feedback and then sharing how we're acting on the feedback so that folks uh gosh if i were to ask our community you know raise your hand if you've had to answer you know five to seven surveys in the last six weeks we probably you know all raised their hands we've surveyed our community so much um at some point in time that fatigue is going to
100sit in they're going to wonder like what the feedback the feedback am i giving is it is it actually being utilized is it being considered and what are the impacts of that feedback so the community engagement group is really intent on getting the feedback identifying these kind of short-term i believe solutions that we can provide them and then communic implementing those solutions and then communicating back out to families uh we are implementing these solutions because you gave us this feedback um and it appears from what joe and chris have indicated in their analysis of the surveys there are some there are some um you know kind of short-term real-time solutions that we can provide cool and they may not be huge they might not be like you know mind-blowing but i'll tell you that if
101you're a parent with three kids at home um any little probably any any little bit that that can we can take off your plate to help in that environment would be significant i i think it's been encouraging just to hear that they can get out and kids can get out and do sports even just a limited i mean that that that's encouraging i i just yeah i'm spring i agree with you i just feel like hearing katherine talk about the steps that they're taking for ell students for special needs that that that's great i mean we can't hope for more than that at this moment where we are so small steps small steps that's right okay and there's no further um answer your questions we're going to move on to the consent agenda thank you
102boy do i have a motion got a motion to approve the consent agenda moved second all in favor aye and that's so approved and is there any new business tonight during any new business we're going to go ahead and join the meeting almost right on time at 8 33 thank you everybody appreciate you staying tuned with us yeah and thank you for joining us this evening yeah thank you thank you all bye all right stay warm stay dry now let's go vote
