[Music] good evening and welcome to the possible board on monday january 10th 2022 that's full morning stanford is this meeting is taking place at village hall the board room w156 and 8480 falls by verified one a live broadcast will not be taking place tonight there is something wrong with the service correct from the correct yeah okay so it's not a recording uh but amy however will be recording it on her phone and we'll drop it onto the board website for future viewing there is something wrong with the village wi-fi so there's no wi-fi from the military at the time either which means we don't get access to wardrobes which we usually use put up on the screen kim was kind enough to make paper copies so the board is able to work with that the
way that we used to work so please bear with us again it's the village equipment that's not working [Music] we'll start the evening with our reports from our student school board members and all right so i'll report uh sports like usual so for boys basketball we are now two um we had two huge overtime wins last week um one again one at arrowhead and one again east and we had a comfortable win um against volvo so west in our red hat game um and then come out and support the boys as they have a home game this tuesday against marquette and this friday against foreign for girls basketball we are now seven and five um they had a huge 91-19 blowout win against milwaukee requests recently and then come out to their next home game
which is thursday january 20th against germany um and then wrestling is now three and six on the season um they got 19th out of 63 teams on the water tournament in oshkosh they also got 12 out of 17 in the deaf internet and then come out this thursday to see them wrestle for free all right and then a student uh finals are next week wednesday thursday and friday so students are studying hard to prepare for the news test last week friday at the boys basketball game national honor society raised money for the american heart association and to honor keaton neal the basketball looking theme was spread out in support of the cause and at halftime and i just collected enough money for the cause we do not know how much that was but it was
very successful uh the spring musical will have a production of into the woods the audition dates are set for the beginning of february um but the time the dates for the performance are still being set band review is back after a two-year they're like two-year break the members of the menominee call stand are putting on their own production of the odyssey of the falls a story of greek gods this will be a virtual performance that will be produced at the end of april the members of the cast are hoping to be able to do a live performance at the amphitheater as the falls tests are um sometime in may when the leather kids need center and then members of hosa are competing in online uh test competitions this week and are presenting their projects they
have been working on uh really very hardly um and they're hoping to make it to the next level of competition and then there's definitely a buzz at the high school last week with mr gala miss beholiak and miss thomas of service substitute swimmer short staff um to be in those classics okay um uh board members is there anything you would like to share it feels like each is a goal enjoyed attending the middle school 6th century band concert it's really incredible to see some new performers and all that they can learn in a few months and put together a concert so that was a lot of fun um then i also attended the north spelling bee and the all of the attendees um will be moving on to the supplies following you this is next
tuesday so a lot of fun there's a lot of very talented scholars um and i see some familiar faces where they've attended this for a few years really exciting to watch so i think it's tuesday for peace and unity this was the second time this was held in the gazebo in new hampshire and it just was really well done i know this gal was there uh dave glasgow school suggested school um and then we we stained turtles and tried our rest to keep our candles lit it was a cool evening but just a really nice gathering um and then i've been coaching glass of fourth grade voice basketball period nothing to report i had the opportunity to attend at the high school celebration and bob please give me the name of that celebration where we
celebrate the students once a month for the breakfast the champions practice which acknowledges students that have done something for their fellow student or um that has meant some type of character i believe this will do the right thing this last time and i also want to thank that it's a beautiful ceremony it's upstairs what you call that room 231 231 such a big beautiful room that gives students the opportunity to work in groups or in study halls but it's it's really a community efforts there's a lot of donation panera and starbucks and a lot of the other community members donate practice foods but congratulations to those students it's a great celebration i don't really have anything to report i just want to say thank you i know we've had some staffing issues since we come
back from winter break so just a great big thank you to our administrators who are filling in and all the district staff members across the whole district so we're filling in maybe in buildings that aren't necessarily their home so i as a parent greatly appreciate that out of ben franklin so i had both ends of the spectrum and it's amazing the similarities between second grade but that's uh really i just want to echo what about the appreciation for the administrators all of that possibility of all of our abilities to keep our school open and kids in session we do closely monitor our dashboard and track cases at our schools classroom and community with the rapid increase in cases of new all across areas throughout the country we could potentially experience an impact on that that's
not potentially we are experiencing impact on staffing at our school specifically the high school last week was very much struggling i know we're in a better place today which we're thankful for we still have some out right now ben franklin is the school that says we just have a significant number of staff out so we're all pulling together across the district to keep our students in school there is to the best of our ability as with most industries industries we are experiencing those higher staff absences and communicating we must be prepared to shift to a virtual learning model if necessary either at the school level or district wide in the interest of our staff students and families will make every effort to avoid that decision i hope you're seeing that we're trying our best to
do that so that decision would be just driven purely by a staffer we have to have adults in our buildings we're a we're a people rich uh workplace so we need obviously you can't run a second grade classroom without an adult in that seat so we all we kind of get right pieces in the right places to make sure we can have a safe productive uh school throughout the day if we had to go to virtual we will do our best to communicate that as early as possible it would be very targeted to where it's needed as well as how long it's needed so that's the approach that we're taking now based on conversation with waukesha county health services and the endorsement from the wisconsin department of health services we did communicate last week with
families that we have begun to implement new cdc guidelines related to 19 isolations and quarantined uh this allows us to short those periods that staff our students are out if their their symptoms have subsided after five days um they're able to come back if they're willing to mask um and if they're not then they can choose to stay that whole five or ten days out we hope this will support our students and staff by allowing girls well enough to return to school within those updated guidelines just asking everyone to do all they can to keep our schools open for in-person learning most importantly stay home if you're not feeling well report those positive cases on our student code 19 page if you're a staff member listening we want you to report those just helps us
understand what we're up against and to be able to watch other areas please consider wearing a mask at school in our classrooms while not required we strongly recommend mass square for students and staff these are just to get people of intense environments 25 to k7 youngest learners we've got 20 to 25 students in those rooms in high school sometimes more so just small spaces and a lot of people so anything we can do to help keep one another healthy is going to help us stay open and keep everyone at a good spot we're proud to announce that nominee falls high school was recognized once again by the milwaukee business bureau and its annual book of lists as the 15th top-ranked high school of milwaukee area public high schools according to the milwaukee business journal the
list is ranked by data score information of students who participated at least one hp exam passed at least one app exam math proficiency reading proficiency graduation rate and includes data from school websites and other sources including u.s news best high schools the wisconsin department of public construction did not department report i'm sorry i'll ask that that's not accurate that's reporting 1920 so congratulations to the high school and we also say congratulations to the entire district most of our students begin with us and stay with us for the entire entire duration of their schooling so really though any of those accolades are a reflection of our k-12 programming the 4k 5k enrollment portal for the 22-23 school year has opened so yes we're now starting to think about that next school year visit fallschools.org and click
on 4k enrollment to begin enrollment which includes signing up for one of our 4k 5k nights which will be held this year on january 26th and february 2nd from 5 pm to 7 30 pm at shadyway elementary school in the gymnasium please remember students must live within school district boundaries to attend you'll have proof of residency to enroll your child must be four years old on or before september 1st of 2022 for 4k and 5 years old or before september 1st for 5k proof of age will be required child's immunization records will be needed as they always happen after 40 years of education school with district of menomonee falls director of technology jack nettie recently announced he will retire at the end of this school year mr netting has served as director of technology for
sdf since 2011 should adjust he's in a very back room here helping fill in today to run this program and he spent his stay today filling in at ben franklin elementary to help assure that our library programming would continue jeff has stayed on the cutting edge of his respective areas of expertise throughout his career he has been critical to the development of our improvement work he is one of the most brilliant professionals i have worked with that has worked great and second up he needs big shoes to fill in our district i will begin the process to search for mr netting's replacement within the next few weeks he will continue to serve as the director of technology through the end of this school year to ensure a smooth transition and another sad but exciting announcement
for a team member after 32 years in education menomonee follows high school principal bob vitale also in a room in the back of the room announced that he would retire at the end of 2122 as well he served for 24 years of his career at menomonee falls high school the school district of menomonee falls is grateful for his leadership his dedication to service his connects with students and staff and his commitment to learning he's been a model of servant leadership in our district his selfless and personal commitment to helping each student and everyone knows god knows that each student really needs each individual student he knows his kids by name he meets with every senior during the course of their senior year to make sure he's talking with them about their plan and thank them
for their time here being sure that they find success he is remarkable he leaves a legacy of high performing high school and that serves all students and we will also be posting and working to fill that position this will be out with us for the entire school year so i'm excited for both of those individuals sad you're both great friends of mine personally and incredible friends to the school district also congratulations to them that's completely any questions yeah i just received a question from a community member they were curious if um a student is not feeling well if but does not have quoted if they can elect to have virtual instruction that they feel well it's going to be out for an extended period of time we do support them in that virtual environment so
they should be calling in at that hotline working with their school and their teacher to um you know like maybe it's i don't know three days i don't know but but yeah i mean yeah we're not asking teachers to move to virtual for a single or one or two days period of time okay so they should just talk with their principal their attendance if they want to yeah any other question any other questions before we get uh further into the working i would like to read this sometimes is helping us out and of course our finance director thankful for being here we will now move on to our finest and that we thank you all and all the parents that are here this is what we're exciting for is to educate the students so um
i would like to come up and introduce the i believe there's mr taylor as well are you representing i apologize that's ms schuster mr taylor these are all ap skills yep so if i could have all the ap scholars that i met with in the lobby if you want to line up against the wall here please my uh leader of the av program thank you to corey and casey and susie for helping us out at the high school and i cannot thank the staff at the high school they are picking up extra classes and going whole straight through the school day without breaks so i cannot thank them enough for what they've done for our school and our kids all right so next is i want to introduce stacy schuster she is our ap coordinator
and has done a phenomenal job with our ap program and she will explain to you why we have all these wonderful students over here uh hello again um so so pleased to be here tonight to share with you we had 394 students take 736 exams this past may for the two-week testing period we had 26 subject areas that we tested in with 143 a.t scholars so exams are scored one to five and if you receive a three or higher usually that warrants um the granting of college credit on that exam at your post-secondary institution so we had 64 ap scholars and that would be a three or higher on three ap exams and we had 23 ap scholars with honors now we have 3.25 average on your ap exams taken and then we have 56
ap scholars with distinction with a 3.5 average on all ap exams so we just want to congratulate all our students our ap teachers and that just shows that everyone is working very very hard in supporting the program so we're very happy to bring with us tonight um some of our scholars that are here i think we're going to have them come up to the microphone correct to introduce themselves introduce yourself if you're a senior let us know what you are hoping to do next year this caused a by the way like and if high school and first i'd like to start off with the school board and college board for allowing me the opportunity to take part in ap courses i would like to also thank my family motivates me to take these classes and
succeed uh i'm a senior and i'm planning to move into college either msu or uw thank you congratulations thank you to the parents uh all parents in the world we know that this is a lot of work and a lot of support thank you hello um my name is alexa lau i am also senior at menomonee falls high school next year i plan on going to college for computer science and because of the ap classes i've taken i realized that i enjoy computer science so i'm very appreciative that i was able to take those ap classes that i did thank you coming hello i'm nicholas and i'm a senior so next year i'm planning on going to either either be milwaukee or madison and doing computer science yeah ap econ is hard [Applause] congratulations and
thank you for sharing hello madison file i graduated last year with class 2021 and i'm currently a freshman at the university of wisconsin-stevens point pursuing a degree in biochemistry with a pre-med emphasis um took lots of ap exams and they were totally worth it because they inspired me to go on to college and pursue a very difficult education and the homeless i think the board and the school district thank you come back any time and hi share name is jack mackey and i am currently a college freshman studying computer engineering at the milwaukee school of engineering as for my education at the falls i have no complaints really there's a lot of great teachers thank you very much [Applause] hi my name is kira luber i'm a senior at mountain falls right now and next
year i'm looking at a couple different colleges right now i'm not sure yet um but madison is definitely an option and i'm not sure what i do either so i'm kind of like i'm looking at business schools and possibly law school afterwards but it's still in the air for me [Applause] um congratulations everyone i'm mr ahmed um i'm senior jeremy foles um i think my favorite ap class this year has been ap psychology it's it's really interested me and i'm thinking about double majoring in psychology but right now i'm kind of on a business chart and hopefully grad school later on and thank you [Applause] hello my name is marielle hood and i'm a senior at the high school i first have to thank all of my talented teachers who helped me achieve all that
i have in my ap classes this year i'm taking ap environmental science and that has really piqued my interest for environmental engineering which is what i'm going to pursue in college um so yeah thank you very much [Music] hello everybody i'm liam code um next year i will be attending vanderbilt university i'm not really sure about my major is but i'm going to do a minor in business and maybe major in economics or something and my favorite ap class is probably high school um next year i also got to go to vanderbilt and i think i want to major in econ so they feel like you know yeah yeah congratulations [Applause] hello my name is senior at county falls high school over the course of my years i've taken many ap classes a few of
them i'm in right now are ap psychology environmental science uh spanish but recently i was uh accepted in the university of notre dame and i'm not yet committed to this college i'm waiting to see other results but i am undecided as well [Applause] time too but um i'm gonna either major in uh political science and i was thinking about economics but like nick said it is really hard on a pretty track and i'm either open to attend the university of loyola chicago next year at the university of wisconsin [Applause] um and we really do want to thank the staff this is a lot of work and they have training to teach these students for um so congratulations on your [Applause] and you're more success welcome to study for the full meeting [Music] so um i
think we'll start with william a student at our high school have pleaded with you several too many times i've emailed you spoken to you and even ply applied to be a member of your institution i try to form student organizations nourish compromises between the warring parties and promote the preeminence of education over politics i distance myself from the disrespect that plagues our school board meetings appeal empathy and encourage respectful disagreement yet with respect to coven this year few have been emphatically persistent in pursuing politics over education stubborn and prioritizing the opinions of the few of the education of the many on yielding and acting against the needs of the teachers and the student body we the community are also to play we have intimidated our board members with large crowds divisive rhetoric and vociferous partisan
applause we have innovative district with politics and disrespect and we have relinquished empathy and conscience for antipathy and immorality we now face an unprecedented search with more active cases than ever hundreds of students away from learning and dozens of teachers sick yet the absent political approach lives on continuing to do nothing while my in-person education is put at risk an infection from school has already kept me away from education thousands of infections and quarantines have already lost our students collectively decades of in-person learning and we are already on the verge of virtual learning i do not deserve this our teachers do not deserve this our health care workers do not deserve this we the students do not deserve this thus to avoid the unforgivable losses that will result from our absence i advocate that the
board require masks throughout the districts on district districts sorry until cases fall implement strict congregation protocols in the hallways and cafeterias and mandate masks at all scoring events we must treat virtual learning as last option about first option otherwise if we choose to continue in our absent road to disaster i may be back in two months speaking again however my tone will be far more somber than today my education infinitely more damage than it is now there in hindsight our born and our community will wallow in despair there will be no argument no politics only regret our extraordinarily honorable board seriously i'm dead serious which has proven its merit before will thus anguish in the trenches of universal criticism and risked education the board and community must now make their decision what is more important
the students the politics in other words my education or politics i'd appreciate no parts and applause for a community divided cannot stand thank you very much thank you so i want to thank the school board for consideration for revising the board policy 361 to address the library books that may be ninja on the wisconsin statue 948.11 and 948-5112 regarding relating to pornography and cultural materials to children although there may have been differences in opinion on certain topics relating to our children's education that was made i understand the procedural aspect of the policy will be addressed next i've direct access to a list of books added and removed from circulation currently only 15 books at a time are listed in destiny to show root books and only a report from the administration can generate ballistic votes
removed to me that still poses a challenge for parents to have easy access to this information could there be a way to put out a monthly list in the directory's website so parents can have a quick overview i want to ensure that our school district is in compliance with wisconsin legislative role pi8 which requires library facilities to have a balanced collection of books which depicts an accurate and unbiased way this transparency will be helpful for parents to have a better oversight of books and for us to possibly assist a library media specialist my next point is more of a personal statement i want to clarify an assertion that was made in a previous meeting about the intentions behind my library book presentation never once have i demanded censorship banning of books teachers lesson plans or
assignments i've always had stuff i've always yelled steadfast in my position about parental choice in autonomy in my original speech i stated quote i would not demand to have these books banned but at the very least parental consent and notification is important i have held true to these statements i'm cognizant of the real world that we've i'm promising the real world and that we live in a diverse community with families that hold different value systems my stance was about respecting each parent's decision on how they raised their children and therefore decide on what they want their children to be exposed to it was not about interjecting my own values upon others my message has always been clear and concise it was about implementing a rating or notification system in the books for transparency purposes and
to possibly reassess the vending process i utilized in addition there is actually a legal obligation to address these books our current wisconsin statutes are in place to establish a minimum standard to protect all children regardless if they attend public or private schools so in closing i would welcome any parent that may have opposing viewpoints to reach out to having open dialogue this would be much more productive in order to collaborate through creative religions thank you you recently published new guidelines for restrictions related to children with illnesses the published graphic blatantly separates vaccinated from the unvaccinated you do not see a problem discrimination has the school ever imposed a distinction between vaccinated and unvaccinated children in history for any disease is discrimination of students based on medical status you cannot ask students their vaccination status so
how would you measure the response to these guidelines you should not invoke the imposing restrictions in the segregated math do you segregate children with common cold or flu when these ailments are just as contagious and just as legal based on metrics from the cdc which is the same organization you're relying on to draft your guidance you need to begin making more responsible and educated decisions regarding how you treat children regardless of what you see on the news do your own research within the district you're supposed to be educated leaders please use some of your education to gather true facts from the district's student veterans and stop basing your guidelines on county statistics only keep in mind that the tests used to determine specific nominees cited in your guidelines has already been noted as infected by
the cdc and fda as of december 31 2021. so the results of these tests cannot be trusted anyway do not go backwards in your management of health in our district keep masks optional do not discriminate based on medical status leave the health decisions to the parents that they are ultimately responsible for the health and well-being of their children i believe we all wish to move forward toward normalization not unjustified fear keep your focus on education please thank you oh margie you seem to have seen people have come to me a little different today i'm high school a grandparent anyhow i'm coming to actually say i'm happy that you guys have adopted the cdc skype i don't blame the guidelines but at least i think they're reasonable now um the five-day restriction is much better than
the 10 days or an arbitrary number so i think that the guidelines until we can even get them better i i do agree that the vaccination status they're they're talking now a lot how come everybody gets sick it's got vaccinated i don't quite understand it but anyhow um the one thing is is that um if you haven't been vaccinated they do want you to to do the same thing as the other ones so it makes it easy it's five days five days you have that you have that symptoms you have that even if it's positive test negative tests sometimes five days where maths can come back to school five days it really isn't as bad as it was so i think we're helping get our kids back in school and not have them out for
such extended periods of time but um i'm happy that you're doing this and we can still move forward as a as a world and realize that it is something that we have to learn to deal with and we can't isolate ourselves forever we need to be a community and be together and if it means i i get sick so i'm very glad that we're at least adopting the cdc guidelines and the chris tulin i want to thank menomonee falls school district for maintaining mass optional and modifying the quarantine guidelines throughout the school year including most recently allowing all asymptomatic close contact elementary children to stay in school this new quarantine guideline was even announced around the holidays in the midst of the omicron barrier a rational and realistic approach to keeping our kids in school
is what we need moving ahead i would also like to thank the schools and primarily primarily the teachers working tirelessly tirelessly in school and making it work our children deserve our teachers deserve extra praise and showing for showing up every day making the job easy with their time and talents in regards to masks i work in the medical setting and i can appreciate how difficult it is to communicate daily while wearing a mask as a speech pathologist i understand how important it is for children to hear and see sounds in articulation wearing the mask even makes it difficult for young children to gauge how well they make those sounds if required to wear a mask a child's ability to hear vocal intonation in a friends or teacher's voice can be muffled it can be difficult
for a child to pick up on pragmatic language skills such as taking turns in conversation it is even difficult for a child to pick up on social cues and read emotions i remember my daughter coming home last school year when masks were required saying my teacher always squints at me and i had to explain to her no she's smiling that was the time that was the time we were living in them and this is now these are important early developmental skills a child needs to learn and masks can delay those skills learning sounds to speak and phonics to read is critical in reading development given that 77 of the now and false children in k-5 through second grade are meeting at on grade level we cannot sacrifice that progress in reading and still have a
long way to go to improve our children's reading levels masks and the stress of these times are also having a significant impact on our children emotionally and psychotic psychologically it is stressing our kids out i recently read a news piece from tmj4 they interviewed the chief medical officer at children's hospital who said quote we know that reading and math levels have decreased and we know that anxiety depression and suicide rates are up in fact one milwaukee clinic said that typically they have 10 to 12 children on waiting lists to be seen for psychological problems now they have a waiting list of 60. these are just a few reasons to keep children in school and keep masks off our children the long-term repercussions are more detrimental than the risks of our children getting open thank you
chris excuse me now we will go into the admitting reports uh great films and learning um we have no report we did not meet from the holidays our next meeting is this thursday january 13th 6 p.m our next meeting is scheduled for january 27th at 5 00 pm this is also going to take place in the uh 33-44 thank you finance nervousness finance and auxiliary services got right back at it on monday january 3rd so thank you to mr wrighton and the community members for prepping over the um i'll end the holiday break we called the meeting to order it was properly posted and we approved the minutes of the december 6th meeting we reviewed the committee accountability calendar and we described the use and intent to the auditor within attendance for the annual audit
report the committee then heard a 21 for the 2021 fiscal year year-end audit report summary from wendy under cpa is under the lead auditor on the bakersfield team that completes our annual financial arts the audit report is issued as unmodified or as a clean audit opinion the final audit reports as well as miss under summary before detached to be the dead item in warcraft website next we talked about sr funding uh administration continues to see clarity from dpi and the status of the astro3 funds answered three funds are the largest source of the asset fund allocated to sdmf and critical to the 22 23 and 23 24 budgets as these funds were allocated in lieu of state revenues this item will be a standing item for the committee until the actual funding amounts are known
and approved at the state and final levels next we discuss school nutrition staffing and impact on parochial school service contracts all parochial schools received that received meals from our district have been formally notified the last meal service will end on february 11th administration has been working with the schools to plan a transition to a private vendor as well as with guidance from dpi the meal service to trophies schools has been assistance [Music] and suspended staffing issues next we review the 2122 budget calendar the 2223 budget calendar has been attached to the agenda item who will be revisited at the next meeting the calendar helps both the board and the community to see the progress through the budget cycle as well as identifying key opportunities for input and i forget how many there are like 26
for 25. um next we discussed facility budget planning we reviewed preliminary facility capital budget recommendations for our 223 school year the annual operating budget supports 675 for major repairs and replacements of district facilities the full list of recommended projects can be viewed as an attachment in burdocks the special olympics organization has requested consideration of reduced fees for the for upcoming use of the gymnasium and pool any exceptions to the border cruise facility rental fee schedules are brought before the committee for review and approval based on the review the request was approved the committee then satisfied the statutory requirement of act 143 that the board of award committee review at least annually the use of lockdown or active shooter drills if you school the scheduling and reporting of these and all drills by your secure lender
etc are now all recorded in the rapture platform and these drills are part of the annual reporting committee our last item was the north middle school start time in boston logistics we continued the discussion of reviewing the north school start time and the impact on overall district busing due to the complexity of the potential solutions the committee recommends bringing this item forward for full board discussions then we assured our meeting and we set our next meeting date for 5 pm on february 7th thank you for your report thank you does anyone have any questions uh not really um there's been some indication that this movement in washington proved the way it was structured by epi previously but we're not having to confirm legislators uh we have what's like financially members of the commander's office teachers
education so that with that thank you okay and then i just wanted okay thank you um curriculum or uh okay thank you uh communications just been changed judications has no report our next meeting is february 2nd at 4 30 in room 33 24. great thank you very much um this is absolutely short report tonight as guys and this looks like the state of the state address will be scheduled for february 15th probably seven pm um representative neubauer was elected to my minority leader of the assembly and 8 30 will receive a hearing the 12th so that's wednesday that's the new really based on the music last week that looks typical curriculum in place for grades five through twelve and i'm going to interact with you guys thank you does anyone have any questions tomorrow is
the swsa meeting so there will be probably as well all right um open enrollments the explanative discussion items mr um okay we don't have the screen available or the document available um methodology is pretty straightforward one grade level um and so we use these projections to determine whether the space available mythology we are projecting class sizes within our optimal range and above the region students so given that we're not recommending to accept over students here and as i as i was looking at this um quite a while but every once in some of these grades especially third grade it says new and these students how long do they get to stay here is it better yes it's just a question of going through yeah it could make the decision between levels some education which goes
by piece anywhere that's the new parent group at um vietnam and franklin and riverside it's the old pta and that's ptl and now they are calling themselves participants in education is hosting the school board candidate form on thursday january 27 2022 from 6 30 to 8 30 here in the village hall one room the purpose of this event is to provide the residents with the opportunity to learn about the candidates who are running the school board each candidate will be given the opportunity to reduce themselves with an opening statement answer a series of pre-selected questions and finish with the closing date the forum will be forecasted broadcast broadcasted live on time warner cable okay the school library materials selection resources um this is the with regards to the letter that i wrote um um i
i did not hear from anyone except for uh mrs oliver with regards to suggesting changes and unfortunately to hear from her until after i've already sent this to kim this is only just some style changes which is fine that's your job [Music] i truly appreciate that so candy would you like to go ahead and share i think the board members did really give them a copy did you make phone numbers of this as well um because of the situation with regards to the internet i'm thinking maybe probably the best situation would be for candy to share those changes and then we can bring this back for a vote at the next meeting so that you all can see it and then we can send out to the board a clean copy um sure yeah there's
some some minor suggestions um in the beginning of the letter um there's referring to many other districts that can be a lower case district okay um instead of accordance with just change that to per trying to be more concise um i'm sorry to tell you about one minute in accordance with wisconsin state statutes and then down to is not our intense [Music] advisories um and it refers to school purchases i think school should be lowercase okay and then instead of is our intention to create a national conversation just say we intend to create a national conversation okay um and that would just end kindly respond to us that board instead of there's a lot of a lot of similar sentence structures so i'm just trying to vary that [Music] these changes are all just like
like you said stylistic i'm happy to i appreciate [Music] um we actually were able to put the letter on the letterhead so we can see how it fit in here with the goal to get try to get it all on one page and then have a separate signature page so that we can all sign and then from there because we also have all the copy who we're copying on here so that takes up a lot of space as well and then i also um at the end one of the changes that i made was to add to attach our policy through system one so they could see the approach that we were taking and that i also included the statutes which i think one of our speakers program as well um the state statutes um
in the letter so those are all and i appreciate that so if if we do vote to approve it tonight i will ask for everyone to go ahead and sign that's the case and thank you again for those that are listening and watching this letter that um mr god i conscripted to send to the publishers to ask them to start considering and what we actually like is for them to come up with a rating system very similar to what is used for video games movies tv um literally everything that's out there that kids can be exposed to except for books so we're asking that this grading system be implemented and printed on the books so that it helps our librarians on the market media specialists parents community members everyone that happens okay so is there
a motion to approve the is there any further discussion [Music] okay moving on um policy 361 which we were just referring to educational material selection dr bringing forward tonight policy 361 educational and library materials selection for approval the board last saw this during the december 13 2021 meeting there were no additional recommended changes coming out of that discussion but to summarize the lion's share of the changes on this particular policy relates to library media materials selection which begins on page two of the policy document specifically the new policy as presented tonight for action addresses language in library media materials that may include sexually explicit language uh profanity and also outlines the individual protections that parents have over the materials that their children would be able to access [Music] does anyone have any questions for them
if not is there a motion to approve the policy as presented is there a second second it was a motion by mr kelser and consecrated by mr deuce uh just as an update we will be discussing the procedure on how if a parent has questions or concerns how to bring those with regards to this yep at the upcoming um it may not be yet it's not slated for this week the team is currently working on a draft of those procedures to operationalize the policy anticipating the approval this evening perfect great thank you okay if there are no other questions or comments all those in favor aye opposed all right thank you thank you thank you policy 342 special education programs and this is fun okay so this one we're coming up for the request to
look forward to the things that were made one was the title to make this broader and not just about special ed it has to be about all students with disabilities we we went through this policy and made changes to make it more aligned with the federal guidelines and the federal process rather than having a separate district process but making sure that as it is search and following what the federal guidelines are making us do we made some changes to make sure it's updated to the areas of disability and then we also added section 504 on here it is our obligation as district to follow the federal guidelines under the office of civil rights and i thought that was important that we have a policy that aligns with that and finally we added the non-discrimination statement
okay does anyone have any questions lisa's fun if not it's their motion to approve policy 342 as presented is there a second second to this movement and consecrated i'm solely to approve policy 342 programs for students with disabilities as presented are there any additional questions or comments if not all those in favor aye opposed most of the changes that we had name or to the procedure to align the current practice um this policy was brought to review and it has not been reduced since 2013 so this was brought to on the board to review and to review the procedure to make sure it lines up practice is there a motion to approve policy 342.2 home bound instruction as presented was removed by this machine and seconded by mrs deuce are there any additional questions or
comments if not all those in favor aye opposed great thank you very much that has passed thank you and just as a reminder to our viewing audience um mr coaster and the policy many are busy trying to make sure all of our policies have been brought forward in the last five years so we're getting there probably just a few left approve both of the um through january 6th 2022 an amount of 703.32 cents instead of second oh second okay mr to approve uh vouchers payable and the amount of six hundred nine thousand some ninety three dollars and thirty two cents from december 10 2021 through january 6 2022. are there any questions or anything you'd like to share um i just wanted to know i mean it looks like obviously the winter sports are involved
in fact we've had lots of rap hangouts with referees for basketball volleyball swimming gymnastics wrestling and insurance mother sports as well other things instructor fees for community education and recruits the football concession electrical upgrade for forty thousand dollars so that was a big expense and i'm sure we're all happy to have that they didn't purchase two bus for the north middle school and um a big purchase of lumber from the woods class thank you i appreciate you looking at that um does anyone else have any questions for mrs grant if not all those favorite proposed agenda items which includes um the minutes so is there a motion to approve the board of education meeting minutes from december 13 2021 is there a second second it was moved by mr president seconded by mrs duce to
approve the minutes from december 13th 2021 were there any corrections comments suggestions okay if not all those in favor aye opposed thank you now it's time as we come to the end of the meeting for future board agenda items did you want to make one suggestion yeah the finance committee would like to see the whole board to discuss the north middle school start time and possible change okay thank you we can session we just as a committee we're kind of like well but you know we kind of think we know what our non-negotiables are sort of the no go items but we just wanted the full board to have been put on it so you're not in her work session no no just a discussion item i i mean it probably sent us what like
ten minutes to discuss probably not even the simple word but that way you can see all the information that can be reviewed and um just review some of the decision points that all right and we do have two other items on there one is a board workshop on continuous improvement and one is one bullying and harassment so maybe we can put one on maybe the first meeting everywhere we want them to first be in march i don't want to just pull this up maybe there's a long session but um to get that done um with that said does anybody else have anything they want to include this discussion okay but that said um is there a motion to adjourn the meeting and convenient to closed session pursuant to wisconsin statutes 19.85 strategy for crime detection
and prevention in regards to school standing safety some both second it was moved by two secondary subscribers um
