Call this meeting to order. 635. We do a roll call. Joel here. Jessica here. Sarah here. Carly here. Tom's absent. Myself is here. Dr. Slay is here. Has this meeting been properly sure? All right. Please join me in standing and saying to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all 50 volunteers mission statement. The Mount Forb Area School District in partnership with the community is dedicated to nurturing, educating, and challenging all students, preparing and empowering them to be productive, responsible, and self-fulfilling of society. Thank you, Jessica. Uh item two, agenda, minutes approval. We have any motions to approve as stated or any motions to amend? Motion to approve. Motion by Carly, second by Jessica. All in favor?
I. Any opposed. All right. Motion passes. Item GB, approval of our May 19th regular board and executive meeting minutes. Do we have a motion to approve? Motion to approve. Second. All right. Got Joel Carly. All in favor? I. Any oppos? Motion passes. Item three, Dr. Sno. We have uh some uh um school news. We sure do. We have a great student to round out the school year as part of our student showcase of the school year. And Mr. Christensen is here with us today. Paul, sounds like you've got yourself a gem. Yes. The high school's about to Yes. Yeah. So, this is Coach Ly. Uh no is an eighth grader. Um, and I will tell you that I've had a number of interactions with him um, more recently this year than in previous years. He
is the student council president. Um, and he has come to me with a couple of things throughout the year. Um, everything from um, just trying to find ways to make our school better to coming in and talking about the playground and how we can make that more fun and safe for um, our our friends. and he also is just been really reflective um in helping us learn from the student perspective about some evidence based grade. Um so that's been um his insight has been just wonderful and I will tell you every single interaction I've had with him I just find Cosier to be incredibly thoughtful. He's polite and honest. He's upfront. Um and he really looks for solutions. He truly is a leader amongst his peers. Uh, I asked um some teachers to give me
a little feedback. Um, and I don't know if I've ever gotten such a response um and all in such a positive way, but I would like to highlight just a few of the quotes that came from teachers, not just as eighth grade teachers, but throughout his career here. Koshi is welcoming and encouraging to all of his classmates. He's a very deep thinker. He loves to have long philosophical conversations. He always gives me something to think about. He has so many amazing abilities. Costia is kind. He's driven and an exceptional student leader. He's also proven to be consistently reliable and a proactive leader. He takes initiative or on important projects such as leading an effort to get rid of plastic silverware in the lunchroom and bring in metal alternatives. But I think the most important piece
of that is that he has regularly been been communicating with the district and the staff in the kitchen to just make sure that we're progress monitoring whether or not that's been effective. whether students are continuing to do that um and just looking for thoughtful strategies to remedy some of the situations that pop up from time to time with that type of thing. His positive attitude and sense of responsibility makes him a valuable member of our classroom community. I often see other students in our algebra class seek him out during work time and he is a terrific role model for others. He asked great questions, is welll liked and well respected by his peers. He is a respectful, generous to peers and adults at all times. He's witty, thoughtful, and a unique kid with lots of
interest who doesn't shy away from being his true self. He works hard, is mature, is kind, and just an all-around good human. Cost is one of the most inspiring students I've ever worked with. And it's impressive that he rides his bike to school just about every day, even throughout the winter. That's true. Yeah, that's true. Yes. Anyway, as I read the comments from teachers, I said, not just eighth grade teachers, but all throughout his whole career, I continuously heard inspiring. I heard problem solving, and I heard kind. And I cannot think of three better qualities in a middle school student. Kosia has definitely made the school better. He will undoubtedly make the high school better and I'm beyond excited to see what you do in the years to follow high school. Kosia, congratulations. Very well.
Thank you for very special person to you. Yeah, this is my dad, Constantine. Same name as me. That's very awesome. Well, Dad, thank you for lending your son to our district and making us a better community. We know it starts at the home and to have that kind of partnership with you means a great deal. So, thank you. And as a small token of our appreciation and to memorialize this special day, we have this certificate and I hope that you'll wear this Viking pin proudly. Thank you. Would it be okay if we took a picture together maybe outside? I'm going to bring my friend and colleague, Mr. Craraven, with us. Mr. Freeman is our middle school board of education liaison. And so we'll bring this all together. Aubrey will take a picture for us. This
way we're not supposed to. Thank [Music] you, too. [Music] My mom is perfect. That's beautiful. emotion. Oh my god. I'm not listening. Good listening. months. you're so interested in threw myself to hurt me. Um, but I just [Music] upstairs. Unfortunately, I just got an email indicating that our high school representative Noah is not going to be able to join us this evening. So, she apologizes for moves. [Music] Did you get a softball update? I'm waiting. Yeah. Does anybody have any word on how softball is going? [Music] It was 4 Z when I drove by and then I heard a roar. I'm like, I got to go check. And it was the opposite. [Music] We're so proud of our girls that just had an amazing run this last. I don't think they lost a single game
regular regular season. And just so kind, brilliant kids, too. I think they're going to be our academical scholar teams this year, too. We'll find out shortly. Paul, what's happening in in the middle school? Share some good news with us. Yeah, a couple of things. Um, first of all, um, really fun time of year, right? Um, fun run is coming up on Friday. If you have not seen that, that is something to be seen. It's great. Um, it's not fun. It shouldn't be called fun. No, no. Anyway, that would be fun. We have the whole thing and all that. Um, lots of field trips to various places. I don't know if you saw that we had an I don't know 10und and some students go and sing at the m game national anthem. That was super
cool. Lots of sixth, seventh and eighth graders attended that. Um yeah, just all of those things going into the to the last year field end of the year field trip yearbooks sending off to our eighth graders. I saw the eighth grade staff up on the roof today waving to. They always wave and then they point at the high school and stuff. They don't tell them no spoil the eighth graders yet. But anyway, just those kinds of things. The other thing that I wanted to do is I just wanted to take a minute to thank our student services team. Um CJ, Terra, Chrisanne, Diane, and Katie. Um the extra time, the attention, the thoughtfulness that they've put into thinking about May as we approach the month of May and really leaning on our students and the
sources of strength team. um that has been a student leader group throughout this year and giving all students throughout as we as we let up ramp up into the end of April, giving all students an opportunity to learn a bit about the sources of strength and then recognize their own and what gives them strength when they go into certain things and they tie that into the month of May which is actually month mental health awareness month and it I just think it it set the building up and the students up so well to think about May in its totality in a much more positive way than an proactive way and solutionsoriented way rather than um maybe some other. So if you happen to run into any of them at some event at some point, don't
hesitate to just acknowledge and thank them for um all that extra time and effort they put into making this a great place for us at the end of the year. Yeah, I think that's it. Have a great fun. Yeah. [Music] Thank you. Uh Dr. 3 citizen comments since we have speaking people who signed up tonight. Uh first [Music] commission was the board. So on March 18th, there was a board um communication letter and one of the lines in that letter and I'm guessing it was from Dr. Ser was I am absolutely not trying to take anything away from the hardearned accomplishments of our young people and our devoted staff. Well, you might not be intentionally trying to take anything away from the students in all board schools, but you most definitely are. um you're taking
away their ability to demonstrate the level of their talents and abilities to admission departments at universities. Um I had evidence of this somewhat a few months ago when I spoke to the um head of admissions at Milwaukee School of Engineering. Um her comments were my experience anecdotally I've seen great inflation in schools that provide evidence-based grading. Typically, when we ask a school that has an evidence base based grading to create grades, 99% of the time, the student is receiving full A's and a 48 4.0 estimate. Now, however, I felt like this was a very filtered comment um and I felt like she was um holding her feelings back and was kind of a PR type comment. So to rectify that and an open records request WMS asking for communications on standards phase grading and evidence
phase grading amongst um among their uh the admissions department received 253 records um the high level what I found was the university sending all standards based grading evidence-based grading um applications to special reviewers because of the challenge of review um with many hints in there that that is a very bad assignment amongst their group. Um there was no positive discussion whatsoever about standards based grading or evidence-based grading. Um and there was significant amount of negativity and sarcasm. Um and I'm going to give you some examples of the negativity from the associate director for application review. Um and we want these kids to go to college like the kid I was just looking at. I know based on the address they're coming from, not much and are taking some of the hardest classes the school offers.
Yet, the standardsbased grading doesn't reflect that. Another quote, you can do standardsbased grading and oh, I'm sorry, you can't do standardsbased grading and then not explain your grading scale on the transcript or in a school profile report. You're just hurting these kids. Now my inter session on that one is even if it is explained the volume of applications going through WMadison is is increasing and how can um our students be competitive when they're being forced to some extent um to to be go through special reviewers and have the reviewers have to do extra research just to understand what their grades are. the last comment. Um, and I only got a snippet of this conversation because they did react quite a bit of what I got. Um, lol. We had conversations about that when I was
in high school and instead they decided to go to standardsbased grading. Maybe I should go back now and tell them how stupid this is. And that was their direct quote about standardsbased grading from the associate director for application review at our flagship college in this state. So, I would love for you to think about that a little bit cuz it's pretty. So, thank you for your time. Appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you. You're also pleased to welcome to go first. Terrific. Welcome. Okay. I don't know why you said. So this is funny because our village is so small. I never know how formal I should be Mr. President officers. So I'm actually green. I'm a a member of the community and I have uh two Vikings we're very proud of. one who graduated last year.
He's at American University in DC. And we have a junior in high school, soon to be a senior that we're very proud of. And I just wanted to share, and I think Amy will probably echo this, um the immense gratitude that we have for your continued commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the community. And in particular, I've I want to say thank you so much for continuing to fly the pride flag in the month of June. Uh it is an incredibly important uh meaningful symbol for the LGBTQIA+ community and for all of our kids. A number of them are very vulnerable community as well. So seeing that symbol fly of the school district is incredibly important to so many of us. And I realize that doing so will cause friction with certain members of
the community. That's the world that we live in. But I I wanted to emphasize that I believe your decision to do that reflects the values that you have and share with the larger community. and and is so wonderful as a parent to be able to see um those values shared, you know, from from someone in the community to the board to that decision to fly that flag. And it means so much to our family. And I realize how difficult it can be and contentious at times. I'm sure there are debates and it's a burden you have to shoulder. And I just want to thank you for continuing to do that. Like we see you and we really appreciate what you do. Thank [Music] you Lyle with that one. Good. Um I also just wanted to
thank the word for again um flying the um for flag this year. It really does mean so much. And we kind of had our own process at our own home. We have a multi-generational household and um we have several flags flying around. Um yeah, we do. And so um a decision had to be made about taking one of them down in order to fly the pride flag. And there was no um qualms whatsoever about um putting a pride a pride flag. um up, but we had like a small one that would kind of be like put by the mailbox, which is very visible, but wasn't the same. And um we also had a flag from um our home state that isn't um welcoming at all to our child and where our child actually would be
safe to live. And although it was a difficult conversation, it um I think we all felt better afterwards because we want to be visible as you were talking about Ash with our values. And while we would want people to make positive assumptions about who we are in our house, they make the wrong ones when they see the other flag flying out. And that'll be a conversation for another day when it goes back up. But um I feel both pride and um also some vulnerability in flying that flag. Um there's some many many many neighbors who are absolutely super supportive and and um yeah, one who's connected to somebody who's very very not. And so, um, I I share that sense of vulnerability and just hoping that, um, we can have a peaceful, celebratory, um, pride
month. And, um, just thank you again for your ongoing support. And um especially in these times when we know and that ventil in and um in Washington is really, you know, continuing to attack trans people and trans adults and cutting Medicaid which which in pass so many of our students across the board across the board, students with disabilities, it affects this budget massive. So really just appreciate um you all always having the big picture and seeing those um those intersections and how when we support the most vulnerable, we're like bringing everybody up with us. Thank you. All right, 3C. Now we're school news. I got ahead of myself. It's exciting. All these great happening. Can I get a start? I was going to say, do you want to get a start since we don't ever
shoot that? Definitely great. Of course, we're excited to celebrate Nolan and all of the rest of our graduates. Uh this Sunday afternoon at 3:00 at the Lion Energy Center. Um it will be another great commencement exercise. And uh this Friday, all of the high school seniors, they're going to do their graduation walks. Have you heard about this? where the students go down to the elementary levels with their caps and gowns on and all the children line up and it's just so sweet. Uh opportunities for teachers and students uh to reconnect maybe after some time. Uh really will be a remarkable day and then the students have a little bit of graduation practice and then they're they're out. Uh word has it though we have a number of other students in kindergarten through uh 11th grade
who are deeply sad. Uh the next Thursday is the last day. Uh but good news is that 89 more days from now, school starts again and uh we'll just pick right back up again and keep on learning. Uh I'm excited about that. Um also, we mentioned it just uh during the break, but we're sending well wishes to our student athletes uh tonight, softball. Uh we know that game got moved up at night just because of some anticipated uh thunderstorms here. And so we hope our young ladies are having a good time. Uh and then word has it we have a track and field uh state competition also this weekend. Friday night's going to be a big night I think even into Saturday I believe that's up in Lacrosse and we have a great contingency of
young people who are who are traveling up that way. Um, and then I thought it would be helpful uh though not on the agenda under the superintendent's comments just to share uh the actual quote that I made uh with regard to grades in schools um as opposed to what was just taken out of context. And uh as you'll see uh back in oh this must have been in March or so I did an analysis of our students grades and I bring to your attention what we perceive to be some grade inflation here in our district right now. And what we know to be true is that with um the movements that have been made with the input of our families on multiple occasions, we've posted a number of opportunities for our families to share. Uh
that we are trying to do the exact opposite of what was just heard uh by our guest speaker tonight. Uh unfortunately I wish you was here but I'd like you to know uh we have been studying the data and we know um that we have the ability to control uh for us not to have great inflation but hold kids to a higher rigorous uh standard hold them to account for their learning. Um and we believe that uh it's not real reasonable that um out of 788 students, we have uh what looks to be about uh 360 students who are on honor role right now. We got some amazing kids, don't get me wrong. Um but we believe maybe there's an opportunity for us to go back and revisit uh because that's not normal uh for
school districts our size. Um one other piece that I encourage you to think about is that when we call data we just don't do it through open records requests that we also recognize that we're having conversations collegial conversations not just with the University of Madison but that of all uh universities uh near and far. uh looking at the literature uh we're seeing what's happening in in other parts of the country. So I I invite uh Mr. Brock uh to continue his dialogue with the district. I know that we've attempted on many occasions to have conversations with him. He likes email which is great, but we know that much can be lost through email. We know we have some data that can help support um all of us listening with the intent of wanting to learn
rather than just be heard. Uh, so I'm very excited about the close to the school year. I'm excited about what our students have been able to accomplish. We've had a good good year and that's due in large measure to the support we received from our parents, but that's also uh that of an amazing faculty and staff. We're blessed beyond measure and I'm just so pleased to to put this one in the win column for this year. It's been it's been a much better year than we had last year at this time. Thank you. It's Dr. or anyone else with school news they live with. Tomorrow night is the middle school musical. No, middle school music awards. Middle school musical is next week. But tomorrow night is the music awards. I don't quite know what it
means, but I'm going either confused me cuz it was like the middle school musical. High school musical. Wait. High school musical junior. Great. Is that right? Those two things. Great. Thanks. Anyone else within school? All right. So, we move on to uh number four, personnel transactions. Dr. Yeah, I'm excited. You have a few to call out. I do. I do. I want to take a moment to acknowledge uh Alice Allen. Alice, as some of you know, uh has been serving in a paraprofessional quasi administrative assistant role at the in at the intermediate center. In fact, long before the intermediate center opened uh just in its new incarnation, she's been with the district for 32 years and um just kind of looking back at her past evaluations, this is something one of her principles once uh
wrote. They say, quote, "She's known as someone who's warm, helpful, kind, and dependable with a helpful spirit and always someone who truly cares about students and staff. She has juggled the many demands of an elementary school office for her entire career with the Mount Warberry School District. So, we join in thanking her for her years of service. We had a lovely, lovely celebration. Thanks to our friends in the HR department for today's celebration uh out in the courtyard over by the high school. We wish all of our our employees, especially those getting ready to retire, the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of their [Music] uh further questions about personnel or otherwise entertain a motion to approve. Commission to approve. Second. Motion by Jessica, seconded by Sarah. All in favor? I I. Any opposed? Motion passes.
Our consent agenda five, we've got uh safety and wellness meeting minutes, uh the Cali minutes, and financial reports. Anything that anyone would like to otherwise entertain a motion to approve that motion to approve consent agenda? Second. Motion by Leah and second by Carly. All in favor? I. Any opposed? Motion passes. Excellent. On to discussion items. Committee room reports. We don't have Mr. Tom Schlim getting here tonight from BGT. Is are you able to report on that one? I know that came out for you. No, I I I just was going to say we don't have an update on that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They're they're doing great. Working hard. Perfect. That's all we got and we're going to hear more tonight. Yeah. And is there anything else you'd like to call out specifically about DGT or
I'm just so excited with the fact that we're at a staffing level that's very very strong and that's due in large measure to the partnership between our coordinators and human resources uh anyone who's interested in serving as a bus driver. It's not too early uh for us to begin thinking about hiring for next year. It is a pretty lengthy process to get licensed now under the new federal requirements. And so if you're interested, let's talk soon. Uh because we want to get you in that program and get you rolling literally. It was planned. All you wait for now finance. So we met back on May 12th. Most of everything we talked about has already come before the board in terms of budget revisions, uh reviewing budget calendar, all those kinds of things. Taxes received to
this point are right on where we expect them to be. Uh nothing new. I think on the budget revisions, the biggest things as we saw last time were the fact that we had to pull more from our general fund than anticipated into the special education because of the reduction of the state. So, um we plan to meet again next Monday at uh 4:30 virtually. Excellent. Any questions virtual? All right. safety and wellness. Jessica, we met on May 19th and we were able to have Hillary Hartman present her work on Oregon's mental health with us. We also spent a good amount of time working on the board belonging statement which we're going to work on again uh this month. And then we worked on a policy uh 493 student valuables which is on our agenda today.
All right. Any discussion about that? Was there a a parks and wreck meeting that you want to report on? The parks and recck meeting was canled because instead they had the luck park um meeting. Um, so the only thing that I will share is if anyone is interested in voting or sharing their opinion on um some of the proposals of how that parkland will be used, it's still on the villages website. Um, so there's pictures of the boards that were presented and then you can just there's an email address where you can share your choices. Great. Any other questions or comments on that section? Sounds like no. Uh, good to go. Then on to 6B, our information and advocacy report. Expanding the community's understanding of our annual capital improvement and maintenance long range facility and
maintenance [Music] plan. That's quite multiple. That's a long move. Yeah. Makes it sound more impressive than it is. That's good. Good evening. So um annually we I we prepare a um a we going to go with first we go with the analysis maybe first start. Yeah. Um a report card type um document that kind of lists some various um criteria at each one of our facilities and its current condition. Um uh you can see there's not a lot of change. We haven't done we haven't done a ton of of work in as we move forward through the next couple years, you'll see some of these things begin to change as we as we obviously get rid of the ELC and make improvements to the PC and uh do some uh improvements at the IC as
well. So those grades will change. Um one thing to just throw out there real quick, sorry. The February BGT committee um number of months ago reviewed these notes. Um, it seems it still looks strange to me because we don't have an ELC at the top of the document, right? Um, and so what you'll see later when Dave talks a little bit more about his budget, he's not applying a bunch of band-aid costs to that building any longer. Um, hence the reason why the report card got a little bit shorter now. So, um, yeah, we threw the towel in the house, so to speak. But anyway, um so thank you for that. It yeah, there there are very there are some um minor changes that you can see at the PC where the hard surfaces went
from a B+ to an A because we did some um repairs there last year. Uh seal coating and stuff. Um one went down with the IC, the boiler. Um we did have a boiler fail. Um that is that will be addressed in this year's improvement budget. um other places downgraded. The carpets at the IC, they continue to fade uh and fail over time. That will get attended to um you know, in the next couple years kind of thing. So, as we go down that list, there's not a there's not a ton of of big movement. Um just some minor things as we uh repair the high school. You can see line two is the envelope, the outside of the building if you will. um that expansion joint uh work will be addressed at as we
get through the referendum project over the next couple years, which is something that's been on the list. It's been something we've attempted to do and and uh this will be a great time when we get a a brick layer on site building something new. They can go for these repairs to the high school weather on site. Um windows, some doors at the bus garage. I've got some seals that have failed on some windows and things like that. Um, not much change at the district office. We did put a bunch of money into that um over the last couple years with some interior work and a roof a few years ago. So, yeah, that's that's basically the, you know, the status of our of our facilities um at this time. One of the things that we
added a while back um was play services. I think you requested that. Um, if we go back up to the the PC at the top, you can see that hasn't changed. Uh, play equipment still in pretty shape along for the next um, however long. Is it's it's kind of up in the air. I suppose we'll have that play equipment for one more year at least. Um, so much depends on what our contractor decides to do with the area you build next to the playground. You put a new playground someplace else for a while. We'll have to sort those things out as we get a contractor on board. Uh, again, when we go to referendum, we try to, you know, obviously we're doing it for a reason to to to fix up a failing building. So,
the ELC has been failing for a while. We finally got a a good clear signal from the community. This is what we want to do. And now we're moving ahead and then we can take all that ELC. What do we do questions off the table? Any questions about the U analysis on the district office envelope? Is that uh is that purely cosmetic or is it causing any additional structural challenges? Is it is purely cosmetic? Um yeah, it there's not any water intrusion or anything like that. There may be a a wind that gets through the city every now and then. We take care of the chipmunks. Um, yeah, you wonder we're going to have to dress up. We do a little bit further on that one. Your brain work isn't so bad. I think I
think you're not here. So, well done. space. I can probably back this up. No, I the the improvement over the last couple years worth of money spent is pretty uh pretty remarkable when it gets well. Right. Just refreshing. It wasn't how long ago we went from $100,000 a year of this budget to 230. So doubling that and more has certainly helped us get more of that kind of stuff done for sure. And you're right, it does show is it is nice where I would see painted parking lots and and and things that are fixed and painted and stuff like that. So, thank you for supporting that. Was that boiler in the IC just an age thing or something else? Yeah. Um um it is it's it's very difficult to pro uh predict when they go.
I mean, people people will say, "Well, you got to do P on preventive maintenance, right? Replace it before it fails." All right? And that's a tough thing to do, you know? I like to get I'd like to get every mile out of it. I understand in a former life preventive maintenance was was important because you would lose production time if you didn't, you know, didn't fix it. Um, the failed boiler is we have redundancy in all of our boilers. Uh, the IC has four boilers and we typically run on two. Um there was a fog maybe we would actually upgrade and and go to a three- boiler system that won't fit in my my yearly budget. So um still still some decisions to be made there. But for you know the easy the easy button
here is to fix that one boiler and there'll be others. Um there are six similar boilers at the high school in similar age range. Um, so we got 10 boilers that are of that 1997 2000 era. Some have been fixed in the past. Um, but there are a number of them that uh yeah, I again I wish I could predict uh better and I've asked NAMI to help me with this and they said there's really not much prediction. In fact, one one of the new boilers at the middle school um 6 months after we put it in failed. You know, that's obviously that's covered by warranty, but still we weren't expecting that. I don't think I don't think the obviously the manufacturer was here, but that's kind of how that goes. So, these ones we
can still get parts for. Yes. Time on the board like first couple years was like, well, we can't get it. So, we manufactured, we basically The ELC equipment being from 1967. Yep. We we've certainly the Smithsonian is outlook motors. These from the 972 2000 era. Um finding parts is still easy. However, technology has definitely moved on and there if if we were to say something I want to put something new in that we would get a better boiler. It's at least double the price. So it's about what? It's about Yeah, we're talking. Okay, so the boiler repair is 32,000. A new boiler is 65,000 um to replace all the boilers was 225 for one. So if you multiply that times three cuz I have to do three different locations. So yeah, I I think probably
our best bet since we have redundancy is to fix the sales. Do we have a do you have a sense for I mean you know the boiler from 1967. How do we make sure we don't end up in that situation again? Because I know fixing these is much more cost new. But I also don't want to be trying to fix an 80-y old boiler. Yeah. When I'm still in this community and can I have to put out my teeth to I totally get it. You know, and it's it's very difficult to know when you stop putting money into the old Chevy, right? you know, it's like when do I buy the new thing? Um, I guess as long as we can still get parts for our boilers, we the cost effective way is to repair
them, right? to um install new ones requires modification to you know so that just gets to be and let's be clear it's not going to be cheaper tomorrow than it is today to replace it but it's still a lot a lot of money that we don't necessarily have to drive until the wheels fall off you know I I' I've been there I've had cars that the wheels have fallen off of unfortunately I you know I don't I don't want the school to go cold if but we redundancy and it seems like the onboard one at a time should be should I know you want more boiler question [Music] so the the in terms of performance or integration or whatever it seems like it doesn't make a difference match that way in terms of the the
age or whatever you have different systems as long as they're functional you can make it work right so the high school is a prime example of that where I have boilers from the late '9s And I have boilers that were installed in 2015 and 2019. The 15 to 19 ones are are basically the same machine. We have we have a um an automation system that will integrate those. And high school has is a much more complex system that there's so many different this particular building has one massive air handler and boilers and all that stuff. So the whole system is on one where the high school has got many many different little things and um automate logic is our supplier for automation a good job of allowing us to integrate those and and be able
to monitor them and and uh tailor them to our needs. So yes it does it does make a big difference. Okay. Tell us about our long range facility planning. uh you put project right. So we we hit the crystal ball out and we try to project where we are going to need to uh spend money. So um for me the the years one through four are the ones that I really focus on the most like this is the stuff that's coming down the road and these are these are things I can more imminent necessary than if you go out if you go out in farther years you'll find there's some some repetition. you'll see parking lot maintenance every few years or gym floor maintenance every few years or roof maintenance every few years, boiler replacements,
things like that. Um, but this these the years 1 through 4 are these like these are the things that I can see clearly that we need to um put uh put some effort into. I did try to take this whole list of all of these all these things on this whole list and put a number to them. it comes up to about um a million dollars, you know. So, $230,000 over four years. I'm not I'm not gaming around it, you know. And it it never works that way, right? There's there's some there's still some things that have been on the list for a long time. I just, you know, okay, we're still fine. We'll pick those up. So, I try to do my best to look at each particular um uh facility or entity and
say, where do we need to put where do we need to put some effort? And you can see the big ticket items here. There's a number of smaller ones like the converting the HBAC to auto free stack. That's that's a a a systems thing for me. Very very minor thing that goes a long way for helping me um control the air initiating heating of the icing. All right. Currently it's manual. We actually have to go up there and press a button. I'll be able to do it, you know, from a computer. Um, but the big ticket items like repairing and recealing the bus loop, um, she's $18,000 for that. Boiler replacement, $32,000. Painting the gym is something that Katie Hel has been asking for for some time. It it takes, you know, I just I
have to put it's on the list. And if I can slide it up closer to the front, I tried to do that. Um, carpeting. There's talked about the carpeting at the at the um at the IC. This is, you know, I'm I'm looking to tackle that next year. You know, I don't have they haven't decided on on what patterns or colors. I've got I've got a contractor coming out and trying to give me some, you know, some budget numbers so that I can, but I' i've done some of the calculations of about $30,000. We can get most of that done. Uh, a sidewalk between um the front walkway and service lot. That's one of those things, those little those little guys, those tend to maybe go into the we'll get this done this year. Depending
on how some of these other projects, you know, work out if I can save some money or say, well, you know what? I couldn't find a contractor to do it this year. So, okay, well, I'll take that money and I'll I'll spend that next year, bring something up to this year. So, you there's a little bit of mix and match and things like that. Roof leaks at the middle school. A big ticket item at the middle school is a dust collection system. Um Paul has been asking me for some time. Uh I've been working with Tom Pisoft to uh come up with a uh a system that will is better, you know. Um what's in there right now is what you would have if you had a homework shop, you know. So Tom wants better.
The kids deserve better. So we're going to we're going to tackle that this year. Some storage for them. Uh, another thing, uh, Paul's requested is some new restroom partitions, uh, throughout the building. So, we'll get those guys, um, at least ordered this summer. We'll start picking away and installing them over the course of the year. At the high school, there's some asks for some, uh, doorways to be changed. Uh, in the Fab Lab, they put a plasma cutter in there some years ago. Uh, we didn't design the facility for that particular piece of equipment, so it doesn't have an exhaust hood. Um, this was going to be us kind of homegrowing it a little bit. I had Nami come out and they quoted me some exorbitant price. I almost fell over. Listen to me. I
can do better than that. I can have KK down in and pip build the hood and I can get another contractor to come and install the fan. So, we're I think we can get it done for for that money right there. uh some AC for a um 8 Street Cafe where the kids go get their coffees and snacks in the morning. That was necessary. We're going to uh restripe and number all the parking spaces. Uh again, uh partitions in the atrium restrooms. I'm really happy both Sam's really been pushing for that. He's he's my u u lead custodian at the high school. Um he keep he he rightly pointed out this is this is the thing the community sees the most is this this restroom in here where we have events and stuff like that.
Yep. Gosh. We'll get we'll get you some new um partitions in there. Also, if you've been in the atrium lately, uh some of that glass that store those seals continue to fail and I think I probably will replace all of them pretty quickly here. So, that'll be something we tackle this year. Um, other things like you you go down to the next one says upgrade the the hund you say that there's high school like those those upgrade lights that's been on that list. I bet if you've been paying attention it's been on there for 3 or 4 years. It just isn't as I mean there's other more important things that I need to get to. Be great to get high school all LED but you know I need a boiler worse than I need LED
lights. So um that's that's kind of how this this gate works. This is like a hope, you know, we budget for this and something else comes up. So, um athletic fields. Um last year we um we upgraded the fence along the parking lot and um ran into a bit of a snafu at the end. If you've noticed out by the um by the fire hydrant close to the dumpsters, it's kind of looks like it's not quite done. Well, that's because it's not quite done. Um, I needed to engage a landscaper to do some more of those um, concrete blocks. I didn't have any money left in my budget to do that last year. So, we'll get that we'll get that tackled this year. Um, we got some sports fields. We got a top dress. That's
that's the process of adding dirt uh to level out the field so the grass goes through. Uh, the soccer press box walkway. Now, there's something that's been on my list for ever since I've been doing this. We got some serious erosion problems on the back side of that. We're going to try to address that in the summer with some rocks and joint curving and things like that. Um yeah, those are those are some of the things that you can see going on into the future. Um crack and seal coat the stadium. Um we can paint the light poles. There's there's a million things to do. It's just like it's just like addition of this old house. There's always something to fix, paint, juzj up, whatever. So, um, I work with my guys, work with my
guys in the building, work with principles to try to say, where where is your priorities at? And we try to come up with this list. And again, if you if you if you were to look at the the the 5 through 9 and and 10 through 14, those are just projections on what what possibly could be. Who knows? You know, it's it's very difficult to see that far in the future as as you might guess. But it's good to have some of those things out there. I mean, for the longest time, we carried a lot of money for the IC roof because it we knew we needed something there, the ELC roof. And you know, then as you can see, as as we finally get a little clearer direction, we can take those off and
those will be taken care of in the referendum. We're not going to worry about them with ELC and things like that. So, very helpful. These big projects really help us make, you know, quantity moves forward. That springboards us into the nice slide deck that's been created with the nice pictures you have. And I want her to know I didn't create the slide deck, Chelsea. I just did that. I gave her the pictures and she gives me back this. She says, "Well, let's do it." I'm like, "Well, heck yeah, it'll do." I thought I was going to have to go over and explain stuff to her, but she's she's got it all figured out. book. This is uh a representation of all the projects I've intended to not all the vast majority of the of the
projects I intend to tackle over the next year. Most of this money will get spent this summer. Um we'll have to see if I get contractors and stuff like that time. Um but uh the vast majority of this will take up the $230,000 annually that I get to spend on um maintenance project. So we can start right here. This this is I think this is the cover page, but I I'll I'll roll this out. Um we're going to put a sign over at the at the bus garage finally. Um that's been on my radar since the day I took the job, you know. So, um this is this is a obviously a direct uh copy to the at the district office. So, we're going to have consistent branding and colors and looks and stuff like
that. So, this this will be a welcome addition to the uh the facility over there. people won't I won't have to explain to people where we are. Look from the side. Anyway, so we'll start at the high school. Um on the left is a street cafe. Uh we're going to put a what's called the split unit in there. It's a residential air conditioning unit, but that that particular room in there um is really hot because it's they make coffee in there. They're cooking stuff and they've got freezers in the back. They got coolers in the back. and it's run on the same air conditioning system as the Commons, the thermostat's out the Commons. So, while that's really nice and comfy out in the Commons, it's 85° in in the street. So, we're going to make
it own little standalone um uh cooling system on the right. Partitions at the uh atrium and we tried to paint them uh in the past. They're they're just, you know, they're from 1997 and they're tidied up. So, that's an example of of some of the projects at high school. Uh there's the atrium glass. Uh you can see kind of how they look foggy and like they're rain on the outside. Um the seals inside uh the double planes break and and they get more shy inside. They fog up. Uh parking lot. Uh the numbers are difficult to see, lines are difficult to see. So, that's a that's a certainly an easy easy thing to see. We'll get that we'll get them all all picked up. Uh that's where the plasma goes. The green piece of equipment
kind of in the middle there is a um is a CNC plasma cutter. It's a 3D piece of equipment that you can cut through um steel. You design the part uh in CAD and it will cut it um in there. They make some really neat signs and other other things. I u I'm a bit jealous. I would have loved to have that when I was teaching a bad way would have been wore out the first week. I swear but we're going to try to put a few wood over the top of it and then they exhaust the I'll keep board members. You may recall that we received a grant for about $25,000 I believe was from DWD back in 2019ish. Yeah, it was that came pretty soon after the place was completed. That's a lot
of use. I'm grateful that we continue to grow. It does. it, you know, the the the the Fab Lab was kind of designed as a clean Fab Lab. There wasn't there's not a lot of dust and dirt. 3D printers don't make much smoke and dust, but they got this and it's like, oh, this is this is where it needs to live, so cool. Um, and they they did really decent for us to come to a solution. Again, I I engaged Nami and they gave me a quote that said they really didn't want to do it, but they would do it if they if we would pay the money they asked, of course. Okay, now we move over to the middle school. Again, um you know, since 1993, those guys have been in in service and
use, and they get beat up and repaired, beat up and repaired, and we're going to just swap them out with some nice stuff. Paul's been very patient while we like fit this into my budget. Uh there's the on the left is the dust collector system. That's the shop at the at the middle school. And you see the uh kind of in the upper center is looks like a bag hanging over that. That's the that's the dust collector they currently have. Again, wolffully under sized, under capacity for uh what Tom is trying to teach these kids. So, he's uh he's come up with a new design. Then, we're going to move all that uh all that equipment around and and get it more of a usable space for him. And then the new dust collector will
live outside more space. Uh and to to that as well, we're going to have some a little storage shed right there. Um where it's shown on the right. Uh a little lead to kind of thing so that Tom can keep all of his raw materials outside. the the problem is that shop is really tiny and he's know he's got some fairly substantial class sizes and trying to keep everybody engaged is a task, you know, so we're going to try to try to support him with a little bit easier. Some of those kids are adultsiz adult size. Yes. Yes, I I get that and and not quite for That's right. Keeping them engaged around power equipment is critical. Well, and and I having been that guy in high school, I I always total respect for middle
school. I did a little student teaching in the middle school. Wow. That was that was that was something. Anyway, u Okay, so moving on to the intermediate center. Uh boiler two there shown on the left. Kind of crusty looking. Uh has sprung a leak. Um it's a it's it's where the flames go up through the through the middle and and the water goes around the outside and we transfer the heat from the flame to the water. Um little little less in all of our school. For the most part, our our schools are are are heated with hot water. We boil water in a central location and distribute it right here. That's how we heat most of our schools. So that one's given up the uh the um the fight and then uh we'll get that
replaced. The bus loop that's going to need some love, too. there's some potholes and cracks and things like that that will get um all attended to. It will get seal coated. The cracks will get filled and get striped with all the bus uh angles and all the letters and red stripes and four square and six square things at the top. So, we'll get replaced just like it is right there. Um that's that's a highly used. That's a lot of playground activity out there, parking on the weekends and buses every day. So yeah, that that's be nice to get same setup too. Like you like the whole layout of it. Yeah, Brian T has not asked for any modifications to it whatsoever. It fits his purposes. Um yeah, I don't think we agreed that the wheel
here at Works is right for him. Oh, and then uh back in the bus racks, there's a sign again a complete knockoff from the district office sign. Um just only the words have changed. Uh, and then we have some windows over at the bus garage, too, that need some um some replacing. So, those will get those will get attended to as well. Uh, there's the uh the soccer uh fence that'll get, if you can kind of see on the right, those big uh concrete blocks. We'll get more of those that come along uh and come around the back side of that uh fire hydrant and then up to the parking lot. That'll get filled with rocks. And then we'll we'll continue the fence around at that level. That'll look look nice. Uh it we were
I was just going to make a little jog around the the the hybrid and like nah it it's it's an absolute bugger to mow and it looks terrible. So we thought okay let's let's make this just right. And then on the right is the uh the ramp that leads out to the soccer press box. And you can kind of see some of the erosion that's occurred over the years. We intend to take the whole ramp right off of there and fill that whole area with rip wrap which is rocks about 6 in in diameter just to kind of lock that all down in place. Ambbitious ambitious things to do but I think we might need to get done. We look forward to you coming back in August sharing the after pictures after. Yeah, it'll be
it'll be a busy summer for sure as it always is. It's very rewarding and it's nice to get these things done and and make these um make these improvements cuz it just makes the place look better. That fence down through there looks so much better than what we had there before. I think it makes parking easier, too, cuz you were like, "Do I where do I stop before you're like my nope, I don't know where?" Yeah. Yep. I I can totally get that. Any questions for me about the projects and stuff? All right, Dave, I'm going to reverse jinx this. Okay. EC. Yeah, we've got a couple years left on it. Mhm. What's is there anything that's on your radar in terms of like functionality for 2 years? Um, I'll say that it it's electrical
system is is we upgraded that a few years back. Uh, windows and doors are upgraded some wide a little 10 15 years ago. Boilers are newerish. They're not 1967. They're I don't know 97 99. They're they're and they and they they function again two boilers. You only were on one. Um about the only thing that you know gives me pause is the roof, right? And the roof the roof last winter, you know, was fine. And um everything else, the hard surface is we're it's going to continue. it's not going to fall apart that I can predict, you know, when it comes to the like the units and the rooms and stuff like that. That's that's rolling the dice. Um, it hasn't been for a long time. So, it's nothing new. So, to answer your question,
I don't think there's anything that gives me pause or makes me worry any more than usual. And again, I think I think my guys are adept at um fixing all that stuff and and taking care of it. I am losing a a long-term uh guy in January uh to retirement, you know, uh and uh I believe he has done a very good job of passing the torch on to the to the younger guy. I've got I've got Al Martin who's retiring and Robert Tucker who is the the young guy and I think that the the the torch passing has gone really well. Um and then we'll have to see who we can um backfill with maybe somebody that has some experience in some of these things. So, um, but I I I feel confident we'll
be able to we'll keep that building afloat for a couple years for sure. I'm always struck by the percentage of your budget that's spent on Hardscape outside our schools. Yeah. The So, at any time any ideas in terms of does vinyl striping last longer than paint some of those kinds of thing? And I don't I don't I just we spend a significant portion every year. It's it's an expensive thing. If you talk about the price per square foot, it's not very expensive, but we got a lot a lot of black top. You know, you think about all of the black top that's around the soccer stadium, football stadium, all the parking lots at the high school, all the parking lots at Yeah. There's a lot a lot a lot of of of blackout. It requires
we did it was it was $45,000 to do the bus garage last year. Yeah, I get it. It hurt and there's nothing that's getting cheaper. All of these things every year when I when I ask the prices, when it when it comes to refinishing the floors and at the gyms and stuff like that, it's always more expensive. So, I'm with you. I wish I wish I had a better if you didn't want stripes and numbers. I can do it a lot cheaper. The stripes and numbers are perfect like this. It'll be like my problem with you. It is it is hard to put that kind of money into those things. But there's other things that I really wish that affected the environment inside the school more. I wonder if the dot publishes they have that
whole strip of road between like going out to to that's got all the different paints and the different stripes and everybody moves to the left and I always drive over them cuz they're not going to get any good results. I know, but like they went there forever. So like how which like which one of these last the longest? is over. They can go out and clean off. They don't they're not actually testing anymore. Not just driving off these days, right? We don't have anybody out there with the screen. Yeah. I go I go to um I go to these uh shows and stuff like that, the shows and I look for better parking lot stuff and it just isn't a better thing. You know, we spend a lot of money every year putting chips into
the wood um playgrounds. There's a better thing. It costs like $40 a square foot. That's the That's the That's the downside of it. And if if we have to be smart about where we spend our money, can we just go the village has a bunch of wood chips now? No. Does everybody give us their old tires? Educational. Thank you, David. Thank you, Scott. Thank you, Scott. You're also instrumental. We spent a lot of time. You can see my level of instrumental input and um the operating referendum was huge for us because that's what allows us to even get to what they just presented. So community thank you because without a doubt if you take that list and you ch what pretty operating front so it's been very very appreciated. Yeah. Very good. Thank you. Thank
you. All right. On to action items. Got three second readings right off the top here. Dr. SL board members. Thank you. Uh we are returning three topics and asking if you could please consider each one of them. The first of which has to do with cable television programming. Um you might recall um we have now moved um over to the internet with YouTube for a lot of our programming and ask for the board to reconsider um this policy as a removal. Motion to approve removal of board policy number 363 cable television. Second motion by Jessica, second by Sarah. All in favor? I. Any opposed? Motion passes. Board members, this uh next uh item 7B comes uh after great consideration on the part of our high school math department. Uh 7B and 7 C work hand
in hand. The idea is to introduce a statistics course um and have that replaced uh by math reasoning. Maybe if we could please take each one by one for your consideration uh the introduction of statistics course that would complement the advanced placement statistics course. Motion to approve the addition of instruction to this course. Second motion by Jessica, second by Carly. All in favor? I. Any opposed? Motion passes. And with math reasoning being a course that um has not been readily um enrolled in, uh we believe that this might allow kids a more rigorous pathway to complete their um mathematics requirements. Introduce introduction of statistics in lie of math reasoning. Motion to remove math reasons course. Motion by Joel, second by Leah. All in favor? I. Any opposed? Motion passes. 7D. First reading board policy 493
student valuables referred to us by saw Mr. Brian Johnson. Thank you. This is a pretty easy policy. It's two sentences. Um the the meat of this policy though will be in the admin rag. Um the admin team really wanted it to be a policy because it's important to note um that students are responsible for their own personal property. Um and don't leave stuff in your locker, your cubby, or any other attended area. And that's all that the policy will say. And then each specific um kind of uh operating procedures will go in the admin rank because the IC and PC don't want you to bring anything, right? Um if you're bringing anything expensive, it goes in the office and then we have a procedure. You write down what's in it and then you leave it
there. or that the high school like they want you to like you're bringing expensive band equipment. You're bringing in and they have different things that are set up and locked in different areas of the building. So that looks different in each building and they want to have their own kind of procedures in there. So those will be in I don't think we can take a vote on this. No first reading since I'm not here we are not able to move that forward. We'll bring that back for soon in one of our next meetings. Yeah. Can I just make one comment on that real quick? Do we need to separate out the part about students and Mount Hor? I just every time you see it in public, it has, you know, Mount Horum does not accept
any responsibility. Blah blah blah blah blah. And then students aren't responsible. I I just with it running together I I want to be sure that we're really clear that we are not accepting responsibility for these items. We are but I'm just wondering if that would clarify for food. So just make it three essentially students are responsible for pushing the [Music] class and we can make that comment more make it a threeent You just want to make a I want the ability to make the statement about Mororrow's responsibility more robust if you ever need to in the future. Okay, we'll make that change for that next week. I have one more and I'm sorry because I didn't catch it when we talked about it, but should it say do not leave valuable items or money in
your locker? Because like if I leave my valuable and and my like I think it should be at war. I love so now it's against the the policies. Doesn't matter. That was good. Any other comments on this one? There's a lot of comments for you. Any amount of time we've actually looked at it as long I feel really badly. has some interviews since 1980. I know for a second got a little scared one more. All right. Thanks. Thank you. Great. Next up, we have uh two letters uh advocacy letters that were referred by by Cali. Um 17, the letter opposing Wisconsin AB55 dissuading legislation from allowing the possession of a firearm on school grounds by school employees. Harley, do you want to lead us? Yeah, sure. So, so um this is so a little more
background on the bill. Um firearms are not allowed on school grounds per federal state law. Federal law has certain exceptions for when firearms are allowed on the school ground. Um, including if uh the person is a staff member and the school board approved. State law does not have that same parody. Though the legislature wants to bring that par to basically the result would be that school boards could then vote to allow employees who are licensed to bring firearms off school grounds. Um, we know there's no evidence that this actually does anything to improve safety. Um, it is it's a a common reaction, I think, but given our experience and what the data says and what we think actually would make students safer, this is what we came up with to advocate to not allow I
know everyone's had a chance to thoroughly review the letter where you're at in terms of discussion on this. Any other thoughts from any of our other board members about this? Either the the actual language or the context of this discussion. Carly, can you um give us just a little update on where this is in the legislature right now? This particular bill has been introduced. I don't believe it's been heard at all in either of the committees yet. Um, it's been introduced. It would not get the governor will not sign it. I don't think what would it pass out of committee. What we've seen in the past on these things is that as the session comes to a close, they'll they're going to pass it out of committee and send it to the governor. So, but
I think this year particularly, we felt given given our experience, we had a little more to say on the types of situations. Um, we also in the closing of the letter tried to talk about the things that we do think would are that we do think would improve safety, including advocating for permanent funding in the budget for the Office of School Safety, which is no, I mean, I I don't know where that is in the budget process right now. As you may remember, that was only temporarily funded through a certain date. Um, we know there are some legislators who want that to be a permanent part of the budget, but right now while the budget's up in the air, we have no idea where that is. And Carly, can you remind us again what our
intention is that with this letter, is this one that we would submit right now and any other plans? Yeah. Yes. Yes. So the idea is that this with this we would send it to our assembly rep or senator to the governor's office. Um we had some discussion in the community legislative engagement about publishing in the paper perhaps um seeing him chief if if the um police department how they feel about it. There is some history of the National Association of School Resource Officers also being against this idea which was referenced in the letter, but be great to to know a little more about what our community law enforcement police department is reviewing. I was going to ask if we get this jointly signed because it's one thing for us to ask, but if they could
sign it too in good conscience, that would be excellent. I can't imagine them walking into a situation where they know there are firearms in that situation. Right. Right. Right. Great. Well, at this point, you put together. Thank you. Thanks. Um, at this point, I guess you're looking for a motion to approve this letter as constructed. So moved. Second, Leah and Sarah. All in favor? I. Any opposed? Motion passes. 7F, consider opposition statement to Wisconsin AB 100 SP 117. Carly, could you lead us through this one again? Yeah. So this one, this particular piece of legislation is the state legislature um wanting to mandate to schools how to handle enroll athletics in particularly gender participation. Um this one has came in the assembly pretty fast. Had a hearing passed out of the assembly pretty fast. It's
been sent to the Senate has not had a hearing in the Senate. Um, tactically the thought on this one was to hold this and submit it as written testimony should it be heard in the Senate. Um this and so as you read it, we walk through what the the benefits of athletics are, what the data tells us about all students who um particular LGBTQ students who have particular vulnerable to mental health um challenges. And when you combine those two things, we talk a little bit more about the benefit of ongoing inclusion, working toward greater inclusion over your time for all of our students. And I think it's good to we had a lot of discussion and worked reworked this quite a bit. And I think it's good to note as well that we we wanted
to note that at the bottom there just strategically writing it that way to say that it just does not belong in legislation. Let other organizations handle this. Um, so I think we were very strategic in how we worded things and um, we really talked through a lot of the verbiage and and this had a lot more this this had a lot more writing than what the first thing. Would it make sense to highlight the section about the nuances inherent, but the inclusion is what we're after? I I don't know if that makes sense to highlight that or not. I mean, I like this. Yeah. I'm wondering just that was the one part cuz I would that that's the part I I I get it's a tough challenge but the inclusion is critical, right? And and
to allow them to see that we recognize that but at the same time Yeah. and we would can't waver it or anyone people that would like to do and that's what we were trying to point to get across. Absolutely. That was what Yeah. what we were getting to was structuring it those two sentences there. Um and then particularly just with a reminder that like these are these are real kids, real families. They're not headlines. They're not stories. Um I don't appropate. I think that's I think I like the letter. My only thought is and I can be definitely I think you all disagree. My only thought was if we want to put in a few more citations. We're trying to educate as well as convince. And if they are already like we have the one
thing linked at the bottom, but if there's other again and you don't want to have 25, but like if there's a few more things that we want to link that they that readers might see as unbiased places to get information, you know, like when we talk about, you know, data tells us that our LGBTQ plus students are particularly vulnerable or, you know, I mean, just a little bit of the that. And again, it's not a have to, but that was just my one thought was like considering who the reader is, do we want to like we're not just saying this for cuz we think it's right. This is based. So, I I didn't take the time to find anything. So, I think we talked about some of that and just not wanting to overload this
with that that data in the letter, but I think it makes sense. I mean, to link some citations. I don't know. It's not a have to. That was just that was my only thought. Otherwise, I I like the letter. It would be helpful to the board. I can easily access um that kind of information and embed it like wasn't there some WA ruling stuff and things that be something worth the the reason we didn't I'm sorry. Um but one of the reasons we we had the WIA we had WIA listed as a governing body but due to their ruling we didn't want to draw attention on that. But procedurally though I part of our argument is like that's where that's where the discussion that's where needs to happen. Yeah. So that's why we just left
it as athletic governing bodies. Right. And and al we'd have to get into details about and not just with the board of control though with the member institutions which is where the decision came from which is the concern I think about the case law that's out there stuff is the member institutions. Yeah. No this was uh I mean currently there so much work on this. This was I appreciate it. No, I I appreciate you all being like us having these really in-depth discussions about a a very sensitive topic that's meaningful to a lot of you brought a good perspective to it as well though from which I really appreciate it. Good. Um, so at this point, would we be uh with footnotes um would we be comfortable having someone move to approve this letter as
in reactive state as testimony as testimony that we hold until it's to a hearing. So motion second. Motion by Leah, second by Jessica. All in favor? I I Any opposed? Motion passes. All right, that's the end of our action items. You have any citizen comments for round two? Don't think so. All [Music] right. And at this point, then I would entertain a motion to go into close session. Second. Motion by Sarah, second by Leah. We'll call vote to go in. Joel, yes. Leah, yes. Jessica, yes. Sarah, yes. Yes. Yes. 5 minutes. Five minute break. 5 minutes. [Applause]
