We're going to get started on the work session for April 13th, 2026. I'll turn it over to Mr. Brimberry to get us rolling. Thank you for those in attendance tonight. I appreciate you being here. And I want to remind our public and our community that's here tonight on a work session, these are non-action items. These are discussions where our board and community can get maybe a little deeper into the weeds on some of the items we're looking at or some of the things and programs that are going on. We have three items on the agenda tonight. Each that may take between 15-30 minutes. So for board purposes, hour 15 is the hope tonight. Maybe a little less depending on the topic, but we'll see how that goes. Our first group tonight, always glad to have

this group. One of my favorite student groups and some of our favorite leaders in our school with the Huntington North High School Green Team. And talking a little bit about a potential for a tree nursery. So Dr. Diggits and I believe the Parks are here tonight and some students. like to come on up as the presenters to discuss that with us. We'd love to have you and appreciate you being here tonight and all the previous work you all been doing from last year on. So thank you for all that you've been doing at Huntington North. Well, thank you for allowing us a few minutes of your time this evening. I also want to recognize a couple individuals. In the audience that are here to support our project, we have Emily Hayes from the city of

Huntington. She's the urban forester for the city. Catherine Lissanikia, who's our liaison for the green team in the city as well. And so it's great to have them here. And if we have any questions for them, we can certainly entertain their expertise as well. So tonight, I'm going to be quiet so that you can listen to people who... actually know what they're talking about. And so last year when the green team participated in October with a partnership with the city, Emily Hayes came to me and said, do you think there's a possibility that we could actually start our own tree nursery in a partnership between the green team, Huntington North School Corporation, and... And the city. And I said, of course there is. And so then that started a process with some students that has

been really exciting to see, to be able to create the students creating their own memorandum of understanding that. that the city lawyers had to approve, and it's been a super exciting process to come to this point. And so I'm going to turn it over to seniors Jesse Bilyeu and Lindsey Diggits, who have kind of spearheaded this project, and then they've got just a short presentation about some of the things that they've been working on and we as a green team have been working on, and then we'll entertain any questions. Good evening, everyone. This is our presentation for the nursery that's going to be across the street at the Learning Center. So just to start, just a basic timeline that we have laid out. We're going to start in April 2026 with our first 500 trees

that we're going to plant. And then we plan every year here on out. until 2031 to add another 500. So in March 2030, we're going to add our last 500 trees. And then in October 2031, the first 500 trees that were planted first in April 2026 will be ready for the city to utilize however they see fit. So that five-year mark is about where you would want to get them to the size to be good to plant. So that's why we've kind of chosen to pick that five-year mark, just so we can have a good supply of trees and there'll be a good size to plant. So the purpose of this is to have sustainable native tree crop for the city and to give the Huntington North or just the Huntington County students an experience

in agriculture and tree planting and just the science about it. So the funding for this project comes from the American Forest Grant that was obtained by the city. And the reason we chose Huntington North for the location and why we are doing the partnership is because we have several clubs, whether that's in the classroom, extracurricular clubs. We just have lots of people who would be. thrilled to just take part in this project. So we have the green team that we're part of, engineering students, agriculture students. It's also a great location. We have plenty of square footage just to grow the project throughout five years and it's a great location to have to be visible throughout the city and just to have lots of people involved. For the design, it's a new patented tube, which you

probably have not seen before, and it is very compact and it is meant to have bunch of trees like 500 trees in a very small space so it's very easy for people like a school to be able to have it on a small area of land and work out very well for growing. And this is a picture of an example. On the right-hand side is a tulip tree, and that's about two years in, and that's about five foot tall. And the tree is in a tube, and it's very tiny, and they're really in a compact space, but it's really easy to grow, and it's very, very nice for the space that we have. So our... Desired location would be over by the learning center near where the old Craigbaum field is. So to start, we'll

need about a 12 foot by 12 foot area for those first 500 tubes. And then after that five years, we will have grown to about 28 feet by 44 to allow for walkways in between as it grows because we won't be able to obviously reach or take care of those trees that are in the middle. So we're not entirely sure like what shape layout design we're going to use yet. We'll just have to do some planning to figure out what shape we want that. take but that yellow dot right there is where we're planning and that has plenty of square footage for what we'll need. This is an example of just an AI-generated picture of what it could look like. So each of those squares could hold about 500 trees, so it would be each

age. So each year we would add a square of the 500. So they would be different ages, but eventually it will be covered with walkways. It will have an area above it for irrigation, and it will have a canopy over it too, and it's going to be movable, which is very nice in case we have to move it to a different area. And this is a list of the species ordered. If anybody has these in their yard or if they've seen them before, we're really excited that we have a lot of natives that we're able to have just a large list of things that people like. So we did encounter a couple potential challenges with this process. So there's a possible learning center expansion being considered with just the growth of programs and the growth

of community programs that might end up being there. So we have a portable design, so we won't have to rebuild the entire nursery if it has to be moved for whatever reason. We've also considered alternative locations in the event that that happens. And like Jesse said, we'll have an irrigation system set up utilizing existing water that's already outside at the learning center so that won't have to be constructed or taken from somewhere else. And then we chose this location because it's very visible to the community. Jefferson is a well-traveled street and it just allows people to really get into the project. The community garden is not too far away. So it's an area that has lots of square footage to grow and just what we would need for the visibility in space. Is there any

questions? I have the picture, Cindy, where you're putting it. Thanks, Jerry. Using my voice is a lot better. Okay, Terry, if we ever add it on to the Career Center, that's probably out of the way, correct? I don't see us ever making the driveway. Okay, there's question one. Question two, where will the trees come from? The trees are donated through the grant. Okay, thank you. I'll also add a couple things. And we've been in contact with Ms. Drummond over at the Learning Center. And obviously she has long-term goals as far as where she sees the Learning Center, whether that could be expansions or new programs, things like that. Something that's not on the map, of course, is the community gardens, which is kind of off to the, I guess, the southeast side there. And so

one of the things that when we talked with the city forester was this design that Tom Guggenheim in southern Indiana is letting us steal, borrow. He's giving us a lot of the original design for free. And it's an above ground system. And hopefully. Like you when I first heard like 500 trees. I was thinking of the Huntington nursery out here I'm like oh my word that takes up like all of West Park Drive But then we got to doing the math and it was like oh wow this is actually a pretty small project You know and so pretty feasible to put in that small spot there another concern that we had of course was you know cost and Fortunately, I like projects where we don't incur any costs That to me was like a really

big positive. And so having a metered water system that the city paid for, we're going to make the city pay for their own water. So, you know, those types of things we've kind of tried to mitigate, you know, how those things are going to take place. So, yeah, if we have any questions, we're definitely willing to take them. So the other. Other entity that is in that area that I would just want to make sure that we've communicated with is JROTC. I know they have, I forget what they call their program. Raider. The Raider program, and they have stuff. Is that going to be out of their way and not cause any issues with that? Yeah, if you look at the old track there, when they run their Raider programs, they basically... come straight down

at an angle directly to to Jefferson Street. And so that's why we kind of picked that out of the way. Really not on the map, but at the top right hand corner, there's a line of native trees that were planted a while back. And if we ever have to move, Tiffany said that having all that space back there would be a good place to move it to. What she's envisioning is potentially years down the road having some sort of agribusiness program, with this being a focal point of that. And so not just being able to move it, but build off of it with some other programming that she might be able to do. I love the fact that you have it out along the road, so that the community sees what you're doing. It's always

helpful when the community can see what you're doing. I mean, that's a good idea. Good job, ladies. Yeah, ladies. So are they starting out as short little saplings, like twigs? Yes, they are. They're really tiny. They're babies. So it'll take, like we said, up to five years to be able to harvest them. If they grow faster, we could before that. But back to the picture that I was showing you, that was at two years. It was a tulip tree. But it was at two years, and it's hard to see, but it was five foot. tall. So after five years is when we would take them out. Yeah. So they're babies. So what's in the dirt or in the tube? Dirt? Just regular dirt? Fertilizer? Milk will grow? Yep. Yeah. Tom Guggenheim, who developed this technique,

was actually in Huntington on Friday. And a couple students got to go help him unload some of our starter crops, so to speak, over at Yeoman Park. That's where they're set right now. The actual tube is about two feet tall, and it sits right on the ground. And some of the bottom taproot will actually penetrate the ground, but you just take a spade and cut that off when you're ready to move them. It's a pretty ingenious technique. He's been doing it for about 20 years now down in New Harmony area. And he's got about 30,000 trees this way in his nursery down there. Question, how did you decide, I know native species, but how else did you decide the rest of, what criteria did you use to decide the rest of the species? Like drought

resistant or just a cool name? That would be my criteria, by the way. It was mostly just going throughout October and seeing what kinds of trees that we had enjoyed there and what kinds of native trees we could plant. We wanted to get the biggest variety that we could find of trees that you would find just around here. So that way they'll be natural, they won't be invasive, and they'll fit in with what the city would want to plant. Very good. Thank you. Thank you, ladies. You are very, very impressive. You speak from the heart. You speak with a lot of knowledge. Wow, I mean it's just fantastic. Mr. Park, you didn't do too bad either. You hang in there. I do have a couple questions. How do they survive our winters? Can you protect

them at all when the weather turn goes south on us? Do you need to? The native trees will go dormant and they'll start storing their sugars in the roots. During overwintering, they're going to freeze and do the things that trees do. Ultimately, what we would like to do is have a temporary shade structure that we can take down, that we can preserve so that it saves the quality of whatever shade is across the top. But then trees are going to do what they do, and since they're natives, they're going to withstand the Indiana winters. And he's had great success with that. I was going to say, do you expect... Do you lose some anyway? I mean, not all of them are going to live and you kind of supplant that. Emily can speak to this

as much as I can, but one of the beauties that we felt of getting students involved was the experimentation process of this. What happens if you have a pest? What happens if we add extra nutrients to one? And then we'll work with FFA and say, hey. You know, we've got these 500 trees. Do you want to experiment with them with, you know, different nutrient levels, different moisture levels, different shade levels, those types of things. And that's where it gets exciting as an educator to give kids the opportunity to do that in a very real-world, you know, scenario. And, you know, Emily and I keep telling the kids that, you know, you're going to be in charge of Huntington when these trees are, you know, 20 years from now. You know, when you go to Yeoman

Park. When you go, you know, you're walking along 24 and get to see the trees growing along there. And so it's been exciting to have them, you know, really on board to do that. Yeah. Emily, if you'd like to say something, her skin's crawling back there, I can tell. Thanks, sorry. In regards to overwintering, on the species that we purchased for this first round, we included 100 of the white pine. They're actually one of the most cold-tolerant trees, and so I got an abundance of those to put around the outside perimeter to insulate the remainders. Since they'll all be so close together, the soil will... will act as its own insulation. But on top of that, we'll also be getting hay bales and putting those around the perimeter as well. So multiple levels of insulation,

adding mulch on top over the winter to assist with that. It should, as Mr. Park said, they go into dormancy, but also assisting to keep the roots from freezing, finding any way of doing that. So, yeah. Thank you. Thank you. I just want to commend you because during this presentation, I heard you communicating with other entities, not only in the corporation, but the city and everyone else. I love the collaborative aspect of this program, not only internally, but externally as well. I want to commend you guys on that. I know you have a good leader in Mr. Park, but I just want to commend you for doing that and keep up the good work. Thank you. Anybody else? Yeah, I'd like to, I guess I'm going to tell you, first of all, thank you to

our two students who are here tonight. There's a lot of things you might be doing at 6 p.m. on a Monday night, but coming to speak to a bunch of adults about some things you're passionate about is more of this the better in our district. I loved it the last year or so with your students involved in so many different areas, but I'm going to tell our two students, contributing to our, community and our school system is something Huntington does very, very well. And this is another pocket that's doing that as we speak. So it has value, it has merit, and it is appreciated. But I will tell you, what other groups do you see benefiting from your work here in the future besides our own school district? Because you'll have to be telling me,

how many do you want this year, Mr. Brimberry, for the grounds? And I say that because... More of this the better in our town. We're investing in our own and our students are leading it. So what other community groups will benefit from this from your work three or four or five years from now? Who's going to want your trees besides me? I'm looking forward to the parks definitely to have the trees, the city. Like Memorial Park, Yeoman Park, we did a lot of plantings at Yeoman. And the drive-in, we did a lot of plantings there. So the same places that we've been touching on that have needed more green space, we're wanting to have more trees. And I think it's very helpful for the families that go to the parks to have those trees, to

educate their children, definitely with signage to show what we're doing and where the trees came from. And I think it's very good. for people on their trails to help shade the roads, shade people's houses, that type of thing. Well, it's wonderful, and I'm going to continue to say this. Now, you guys will be off in college grads someday when these are going, but I'll continue to say please keep our school district in mind because in putting our student groan and our programs in places, you will see this. 20, 30 years from now and say, oh, I knew the group that started that, and boy, look how beautiful this is now. So I see that in another district I used to be in of the same style of investment. That was a long time ago, and

I can tell you a small group of students made a huge difference, and I see those things all over that particular community. So the more the better. We have plenty of land in Huntington, our school system. Somebody was thinking one day when they allowed between Lincoln and allowed these other districts or other schools to have so much acreage. So there's a lot of opportunity here, and starting this program will grow, and I appreciate, no pun intended, but this program will be something that makes a difference. makes a difference years from now. Thank you. Chuck, also being the oldest board member here in a long time. Second longest ever, Mr. McCullough. It started with our career center, with the community came together to build this career center, along with the city of Huntington and that county.

And you don't know how much as a board member, I appreciate watching the mayor and you guys work with our kids. One of these kids may be a forest ranger or something. You don't know. They may. But it's neat to watch the city come in and work with the kids and with us, and it kind of started with the Career Center, and it just continues to grow, and that's cool to watch. I guess I do need to interject this one more. Sorry to interrupt, but I know this is a multi-year program. There's a rumor that I'm retiring and but I'm retiring from the classroom not from this so this will just keep on going so this is Actually frees up more time to do those types of things so and then Cindy's gonna come on

board with that as well, so And I will tell you, for you and Dr. Parks, although you may be retired, we have plans for you, so you won't go far from us. Your name is mentioned in a lot of different meetings Mr. Peters and I are in, so we're looking forward to another level of investment from you. Appreciate what you do. Chuck, we have to approve your retirement, and that doesn't necessarily mean all seven of us are going to agree to that. I can't imagine that would go through without some questions. You stole my thunder, but I was going to thank you for everything you've done for this corporation. I know I walked up and talked to you before the meeting, but I just want to make it sure public, you and your wife have

given a lot to this corporation, and I appreciate everything you've done, and I am happy to hear that you will continue to be involved. So thank you. Thank you, guys. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks for being here tonight. Well, next up on our agenda is a very familiar face, but we don't ever want to... To forget how blessed we've been with Terry in terms of the work he's done in our district and so from time to time The past few years we've asked Terry to come back kind of update us on the project show us some things that are happening Take some questions from the board I think you had three before 540 tonight didn't you Terry on questions that were coming at you So always appreciate Terry what you've done and also the level

of expertise you provided this district. I know Mr. Trout was Was very appreciative of you. I know I am, and I certainly know the board and our teachers and our staff are as well. So thank you for being here tonight. Yeah, I appreciate the opportunity to be here. Cindy, thank you for clicking through all these. So we have like 37 slides. We have cookies. So work your way through this. So I'm going to do my best to go through. We're about a dozen projects here, and it is going to be another busy summer. for 2026, which is good. It means we're doing good things and making some progress. So next slide. So these are the projects I'm going to cover this evening. So we're going to cover four projects within the 2022 bond. That's the

mechanical and controls replacement here at the high school, ceilings, lights, piping, and PA replacement here at the high school, the flooring restoration here at the high school, and the upcoming varsity locker room renovation project. We're also going to cover the 2023 bond, which is all-inclusive at Salamonee for the HVAC replacement. 2024 bond is the restroom renovation here. at the high school and then 2025 is the new one that we just started toward the end of last year and that is here at the high school the window replacement the arena ceiling repaint and then the exterior building maintenance at the triplets Crestview and Riverview secure vestibules at the triplets in Salamone horseman HVAC replacement and then the Salamone pool and locker room demo so here we go next Alright, so mechanical controls replacement, that is the

ongoing HVAC system replacement here at the high school. All of the equipment has been installed since last summer and into the fall, but what we're doing now is working through literally hundreds of control points. So the new equipment is a lot more sophisticated than the old equipment, which was pneumatic controls, and now it's all digital. Getting every single piece of equipment dialed in so that it works the way that it's supposed to is an ongoing effort. So we meet every week with a pretty large team and we work through one piece of equipment at a time and talk about what's right, what's wrong, what's still remaining. And we're going to do that until we have check boxes on everything. So we're not turning it over to Rich and his team until it's 100%. So we

still have a ways to go. So next slide. So that's the equipment that's installed. It's bright and shiny and new. And the penthouse is up on top of the building now. We're all LED lit. They're pretty nice. But if you go up there, it's also, you'll see the side. some of those pieces of equipment are the size of a school bus so they're not little and and it took a lot of effort to get those in there and then build around it to get everything in place so next is the ceiling lights piping and pa replacement here at the high school so all of the work is now complete for the entire building including the west science wing which used to be the new science wing from the 80s so That dates quite a few

of us when we talk about the 80s being new, but it's what it seems like. And right now what we're down to is finalizing energy rebates through Duke. So we anticipate a pretty good check coming back to the school corporation for those rebates, and we're working on that paperwork now to wrap that up. So if you walk around the building, most all the ceiling tile are back where they're supposed to be, all of the lights, all of the... PA system now is finished. There's piping up above the ceiling that you can't see that's that's new and been replaced Next Cindy, so that's that's just a quick shot in one of the classrooms down in the West science wing next All right, so flooring restoration, and as Mr. Wall now is addicted to my lifestyle, which

is you walk into a building and you're either looking at the ceiling or the floor, and when you leave, you look at the opposite because you have to make sure that everything looks good. So the flooring restoration is complete. as far as terrazzo and everything else. The only thing that's left, which I'll show you here in the next slide, is the field house. So if you go down to the field house and you look at the new logos and the design. So next slide, Cindy. So this is the transition. So if you go down there, you'll see the hallway that goes towards the weight room is that darker black, more vibrant red. and then the hallway that goes to what is the field house entry doors, it's not. So that's getting done this summer to

make them look the same. It's a different finishing process that the contractor did after the fact, and we liked it so much. We're like, okay, now you get to finish the rest of it, and it takes some effort. So our anticipation is finish it up this summer, and then it will look really good. So like I said, the terrazzo floors are complete. They've got wear and tear. They're from 1970 and 1969. But they turned out really nice. And the biggest thing is you can see the reflection of the lights. You can see the reflection of the things in the floor now. So it looks really sharp. Next slide. So this is the new project or the should be the final project last significant one of the 2022 bond So this is for the both girls

and boys Varsity locker rooms, so we completed most lights in the ceiling in the ceiling and light project But now we're going to basically work our way down So it'll be all of the finishes, so flooring, walls, paint, graphics, and new lockers throughout. So we're also going to, if you go in there now, the showers are pretty much open showers with a pole-type fixture with multiple shower heads. So all that's going to go away. Instead, we're going to have semi-private stalls, three in each locker room. Everything now will be ADA compliant as well, which it is not. Now there's a fairly large threshold you have to cross to get into those showers. The internal to the space, we're also going to do a special locker room for each side, and that's going to be some

really nice spaces, and that's for obviously varsity teams. It's primarily in the past been the basketball, but we're going to set it up so that it can be all sports for those special spaces. Coaches' offices are getting completely renovated, and in some cases we're demoing their showers. They have small showers. basically a shower stall and right now the shower stalls walk out on the carpet which is great for moisture and other issues so all of that's getting wiped out it's all going to be ADA accessible all brand new we just completed bidding for this and Right now the schedule will be at the start this coming summer I'll be back in a couple weeks to present that bid to you and to talk through that But that that's the schedule right now There's two phases

to that project part of it will get done in the summer so that it can be used to those spaces can be used once School starts but then a second portion of each of them will be finished up in the fall During the day because the they're not used throughout the day. So Terry, question. I know we waited on the very end for these last restrooms, shower areas, purposely to see how we did. You came in far under budget on the 22 bond, which allowed for us to do this. But my question, are all the other restrooms, and I know that's a different bond, but this project is Huntington North, are all the other restrooms that also have been worked on here completed now and are finished up down to the, okay, we're ready to

roll here? They are. That one's coming up here in a second. And I say that because for the board's purposes, although this is the last restroom shower area in the school, it was purposely waited for at the end to see which one of these it might fit towards to make sure all the restrooms in Huntington North have now been updated. That includes special education restrooms, correct? Right. So there are some restrooms that aren't finished and that would be your non-varsity locker rooms down in the arena. So those have been partially renovated in the past, but they definitely need new fixtures, that type of thing. So we will get those hopefully at some point in a future bond. But part of, for you, for those of you who have been on the board since I've started

doing this in 21, 22. We talked about an issue with an underground pipe, a sanitary pipe, about having water and flooding issues. I've talked to Rich, and so even for the big showcase that we had down in the auditorium, which we had also basketball. I mean, you guys had a lot going on. Zero water issues. What I thought would happen would be the new fixtures use less water per flush. So that really helped helped out with that pipe issue. And Rich said they've had zero problems in regard to flooding. So well, and board, just for your purposes, I just want to make sure you understood. Due to the efforts of the board and efforts of Terry and Rich and his team, it's allowed us to expand to these other restroom areas here late in the

day, which is, I mean, I don't know how long it's been since you've been in there, but it was in rough shape in both our girls' and boys' areas for showers, restrooms, and so on. So although, as Terry said, it's not completely, we're getting closer to that 100% on all restrooms in this building, which was far needed. So thank you. We are. You're welcome. So you brought up that pipe. Do we still need to deal with it at some point, or do you think we're good? We're good at this point. The main issue was they thought maybe it was clogged. My concern was it just wasn't big enough because part of the building was added on after the original high school, and most likely they just said, we'll see how it works. But most of

your fixtures that were down there used three gallons per flush. We were going to, but we didn't get to that point, and we didn't need to. And the big thing was, I just asked Rich, before we spent money to do anything with it, because also it's under the terrazzo floor, and we did not want to tear that up. Let's see how it works out. And we still have money in the bond if we needed to deal with it. But he said that you guys have, the school corporation, I should say, has put it through its test. And with the events that happened toward the end of last year as well as the beginning of this year, and he said that he's had zero issues. So I'm pleased with that. Next slide. So this is the...

existing locker rooms now, which they don't look bad because they have newer carpet. So the flooring that we have, the epoxy flooring that we have in the restrooms now and in the science block, that's what these are going to get. It's all going to be epoxy. We're still working on logos and some things, graphics on the wall. Kenny's going to work on graphics on the walls. We already have new HVAC in there. So we're in really good shape, and the contractor literally has to hit the ground running to get. this done, but we've been working ahead on our end to make sure that the locker guys already have everything. And so they're ready to start making lockers as soon as they can. And we're doing engraved logos in the lockers and it's going to be,

it's going to be pretty sharp when it's finished. So I'm looking forward to it. So basically the only thing, you mentioned the other locker room areas, basically the two visiting locker rooms and where PE, does PE use those? Right. So those are the only ones outstanding then, right? That would be the only thing that's left. Okay. Yeah, everything else we're getting covered. So next slide, Cindy. So 23 bond, this is the Salamone HVAC replacement. So a little update on what's going on there. So the boiler room and most of the classroom equipment has been installed, stuff inside the building. The chiller, which is the big air conditioning unit that sits outside, that's the size of a school bus. So we discovered out there during a meeting and we were looking through the original building drawings,

something stood out to me and it was like. I think we have the same concern that we had at Horseman, which was back when those Horseman and Salamone were built, we didn't have natural gas. It was using fuel oil and a storage tank, which was buried in the ground. So we started looking, and we realized that the piping that used to go to that tank is still sticking out of the ground, and we decided, huh, well, somebody left that there. poured concrete over top of it and put the new chiller on top of it and we're about to take that chiller out and put a new one on top of that and I said this is the time to let's do this right get that out and remediate the ground and take care of getting

that tank out so So that chiller did not get replaced. It was supposed to get replaced this fall and this winter, but it did not because of that. So right now we're working on pricing with the contractor, but it looks like we have enough money left in that bond to take care of all these extras and get virtually everything done that we wanted to get done HVAC-wise for the building that we could not originally afford. We're just trying to work through the final numbers on that and hopefully have a decision on that at the end of this week to then move forward with getting that extra work done. So the penthouse equipment. Also got delayed as far as delivery, so they didn't get that done this past summer. So it's getting done this coming summer.

And then the controls, much like this building, are going to take a while. It's a similar setup where it's all digital controls. So it's going to take some time, and we'll work through the fall and into the winter and maybe even early spring of 27 to get that part wrapped up. Next slide. So that's the penthouse on top of the building, which is much smaller than the two penthouses on top of this building. So there's a picture of what the equipment looks like in there. And it's not bright and shiny and new and literally has duct tape and Band-Aids holding it together because it's original to the building, much like this building was. Next slide. All right, so restroom renovation. 24 bond and the restroom renovation. So that bond was strictly for restrooms. And as

you guys know, we covered the primary restrooms. We also covered some restrooms in the main office and in counseling area of the building. And then we realized, okay. We still have a decent chunk of money left in that bond. It's not in the contract for the restrooms, but it's in the bond. So we went ahead and put drawings together and priced the additional restrooms that Mr. Brimberry was just talking about, which was special needs. So if you go down the hallway that goes next to the auditorium, there's two special needs restrooms and a special needs shower room and small locker room area that's in there. Then there's also a small restroom that's in Family and Consumer Science. It's literally about the size of a telephone booth, for those who remember what a telephone booth is.

So it's tiny. And we're not turning it back into a restroom. We're actually turning it into a dishwasher area with a stainless steel commercial sink. And then if you go back here in the kitchen area, there's a restroom back there for employees as well as our kitchen staff as well as a locker room. So the remaining money that's in the 24 bond, there's enough to cover all of those restrooms. So right now we're working on getting all that in line for summer work this summer. And the contractors, it's the same contractor that already was doing the restrooms, so they know what to do. It's following the same standards. Everything's going to look very similar. So looking forward to getting that moving. And I know kitchen staff is looking forward to a nice... nice lot because

if you go back there it's it's it's showing its its age so Terry, I want to thank you for meeting with Beth Husband and her team in terms of the needs of our special needs children in the building. I know that they appreciated having input in terms of getting your expertise involved. So I would tell you, I know you're an awfully busy guy, but that group appreciated greatly what we're doing. Okay. Yeah, and we're still working with them on a few ideas to continue to improve even more. We're in here a lot, and we see the challenges that they're handed, and it's a lot of work. So we want to help them as much as we can. So next slide, Cindy. So this is the one on the right. So that's the kitchen. restroom back

there. I think the walls are pink. It's really nice. And then the one on the left, that's the shower for special needs, which isn't, it's ADA-ish, but there's some offset issues. So we're fixing all of the issues in all of the restrooms and making everything ADA compliant. Even the special needs restrooms that are back there now are fairly good size, but they don't meet ADA. So we're actually moving a wall to make them larger and make that space work even better. So next slide. All right. We made it to the 2025 bond. First big project is the window replacement project, and that is the original curtain wall system that's on the front of the building here in the cafeteria. So it's the same window system that's here, door 10 and door 34. And then there's

a steel window system that has wire glass in it back in the athletic hallway. And so all of this is going to come out during the summer. We're going to replace it with one-inch insulated glass and new aluminum, anodized aluminum. Window systems, we're putting 3M safety film on all of the glass as well. Beading is complete, and it will be, like I said, scheduled. It's scheduled for the summer, and we're working through submittals and everything right now with the contractor and ready to hit the ground running here in just over a month. So next slide. So that's obviously the windows along the front. Next slide. At door 10 and 34. Next slide. and that is the athletic hallway and the wire glass that's down there. So we get a lot, you guys get a lot

of public traffic through that space especially, so it'll be nice to, because with the window film ripped off, I mean, it's a little rough, so it'll be nice to have a new window system in there. So next slide, Cindy. So that's an example of the film. I just saw the film. submittal the other day and I can see why you cannot beat a hole through it with a baseball bat. It's some thick, heavy stuff and it's perfectly clear so you won't even know it's there. But it actually gets caulked into the window system so that the edges are sealed so it can't pull loose if somebody did try to break in or break through that glass. Next slide. So next is the arena ceiling repaint. So this is what caused you guys to start looking

at the ceilings more than anything else because the ceiling looks fine in the arena until you look real closely and you realize it does not. original oil-based paint in the 90s and then it was late it was painted again I'm sorry it was original in 1975 when it was built if the oil-based paint and then the 90s there was latex paint put over top of that and that's what caused the paint to start peeling so we're going to remove a majority of all the paint there will be some some residue paint left but it's all getting new primer and then new paint and it's going to be broken up into two phases this summer will be the upper level. And then next summer will be the area over the court. So it's 42,000 square feet.

So it's a lot, a lot of space, a lot of paint, a lot of effort. We've got a good contractor on board and looking forward to seeing how this one turns out. So next, so there's, that'll be scaffold like all the way from the floor to the. It will, except over the court, it won't be this summer. It'll be just the edges. And then the 27th summer, it'll basically be the court. And so we won't be up on the upper level at that point. Wow. That'll be something. Yeah, they called it a dance floor because it is enormous. But they've got to be able to just walk around up there and do everything they need. And they're 36 feet off the floor. I mean, they're up there. So it's an amazing arena, and it's going

to look really nice when it's all said and done. So next slide, Cindy. So that's just more pictures. So that's the proof that, and I don't, I mean, I was in here when the building was 14 years old, and honestly, I don't remember that brown paint, but that's what color it was. It was kind of a dingy brown color originally. So next slide. And that's just more peeling paint. Next. Alright, so exterior building maintenance. So this is for Andrews, Flint Springs, Lincoln, Crestview, and Riverview. So this is masonry cleaning and masonry repairs. The majority of the project is going to be removing sealant and caulk at all window and door locations as well as in the masonry joints. And then all of that is going to get replaced and then all of the masonry is

going to get sealed. And so we have a really, really good contractor on board. for that project who works all over the Midwest. And we've already met with them and they'll be starting doing some initial stuff next week. So they were not waiting until summer. Because as they said, it's going to take them until the end of summer so they want to get started now. So they're going to piecemeal it and work through a couple buildings at a time. Next. So that's just some pictures of existing conditions at the triplets. Next. So you can see how the caulk is just dried out and separated. Even the triplets only being 20-some years old, sealant just doesn't last that long. So if we don't address this, then water gets into the wall and causes more issues. And

then, obviously, water during a freeze-thaw situation, then you start getting things to spall off and cause even more issues. Next. So this is just, so if you look closely at these, you'll see some vertical. lines that go up and down the brick. So those are the vertical expansion joints and control joints that get replaced as well. And then the one on the right is at Riverview. It's just some old limestone that's just caused some staining. So next. Secure vestibules. So this is Andrews, Flint Springs, Lincoln, Crestview, and Riverview. This is adding a new door or interior set of doors at the triplets and then a new interior door that goes into the office. This will add door access and security. So when you come into the triplets right now, they're buzzed in, but then you

really can go anywhere you want. And so this now will stop them, force them to then get buzzed into the office. do their business in the office and then back out and no longer have access through the building. And then at Salamone, we're adding a telescopic door system that's right next to, if you're familiar with the building, which you guys, some of you were out there for a few years, called it home. So the office door, that's where the sliding telescopic door is going to go. So you can no longer just, again, run through the building. and we're adding a door into the office off of that adjacent hallway so that they don't have to use that sliding door all the time. So that's what's getting done. We're bidding that right now. Bids are due

a week from tomorrow. So anticipation, we actually had four contractors show up for that one. It's a small enough project that we got quite a bit of interest in, so we're interested to see how those bids turn out. But that will be this coming summer and into the fall. So next. So that's the image of one of the triplets. You can see now you come in those doors and it's wide open. Next slide. So that's where we're putting those new door systems and then the door over into the office. Next slide. And then that's an image of a telescopic door system that will be installed at Salamone. Next. All right. 2025 Bond Horseman HVAC. So this project is in design. We worked with Rich to walk the building and get an understanding of what all

he wanted to tackle in this project. That building is set up so that there's individual small mechanical pieces of equipment above the ceiling. So they're called air volume systems. So a large unit pushes air to that smaller unit in the ceiling, and then that smaller unit in the ceiling dials in. the temperature. So we're going to replace that large unit, which is absolutely enormous. I hadn't got eyes on it in a while and we went and looked at it. We're literally going to have to cut a hole in the side of the building to get it back out because the building was built around it. So we're going to get that big unit out and then replace all of those small units throughout the entire building. That'll bid later this year in the fall and

then scheduled work for summer 27. Next. I could not get a picture of that large unit. It is up in a mezzanine and it is surrounded by everything. But part of the challenge that Rich pointed out to us, so if you go into the gymnasium, you see those louvers that are way up high along that wall. That's where the units are. And the only access is through a ceiling in the hallway. adjacent to it. And he said, we haven't replaced those filters in years because we can't, there's absolutely no way to get to them. So we're bringing all those units down to right above the ceiling and then we'll just duct up to them. So that way they can actually maintain those units, take care of them the way they need to. They said they've

tried to do what they can, but they said it's very, very challenging. So just not the best design when the building was designed and we're going to remedy that issue as part of this project. So next. Salamone pool and locker room. So we had bid this previously as part of the HVAC replacement at Salamone, but now we're going to bid this separate. We know roughly what that number was because it was an alternate. So this will be the complete removal of the existing auditorium pool, adjacent locker rooms and restrooms. We are going to put in an alternate. For two new restrooms, but it'll be on the gymnasium side instead of that. Right now, that hallway opposite of the gymnasium, that's all going away. The two-story wall that will become the outside of the building is

the gym wall, so we have to build these new restrooms on the gym wall side. And so they will be in the hallway that currently goes back to the natatorium. So the entrance to the gym. used to go into that hallway. So the entrance will be somewhere else? It's going to be moved down a little bit, and then the restrooms will be right inside that vestibule. So that's the plan. We are going to, again, we're going to create a new set of drawings, completely a whole new package, but we have a lot of the work done, luckily. That will go out to bid this fall and then schedule that work for 27, and we will basically vacate everybody out of the building. demo that off. We will not be using dynamite. So, somebody asked. Gary's

not even paying attention. He's asked me if we're using dynamite. No, we're not. It's going to be very precision. We want to save the rest of the building. So that's going to happen during 27. Again, we'll just kick everybody out of the building and make sure it's safe and get that done and then get that wrapped up during the summer. So we're almost finished. How long to demo an area like that? Talking to the contractors that bid that originally, because it's a demo contractor working under a general contractor, and they said they needed the summer to do it right. Because also our structural engineers had to figure out how to do it. We actually can't. Just lop everything off and remove it because we would compromise the foundation of that gym wall. So we have

to maintain that. So we're going to have to maintain a little bit of the pool, actually a little bit of the pool in the locker rooms. Some of those foundations will stay in place. They'll just be below grade. And then we'll backfill over top of that because we need something to push back against the building so it doesn't kick out. So we had to engineer all of that. Okay. I know that that had been a concern a decade or two ago when there was. They knew that it wasn't going to reopen, but what we're afraid to tear down might collapse that wall, might fall in. Right. Okay. Yeah, we engineered it so that it can be done, and it's all in the drawings. Okay, almost finished. So that's the pool in its all its glory.

So next. Next. So that's the red line is basically the delineation line of where we're talking about taking off all of this. Plus we're going to have an alternate to take those newer locker rooms that are no longer used there as well that you can see on the top of that. We may end up keeping the one on the left of this image is used as a store. So we may end up keeping that one, but then take off the other part. The other one is not used. So it's mainly storage of just some stuff, but most of it's empty. So next. All right. So a little bit of extra money from 22. As Mr. Brumberg mentioned, sometimes there's some residual money and we find things to do with it. These are two things that

are being done. So the weight room and the wrestling room are getting new sound systems. So because there's actually a tape deck, which is awesome, down in the weight room. So I thought it was a good save, but nope, apparently not. And then capital funds, just other stuff that Viridian's been doing. Flint Springs and Lincoln roof replacement for the flat roof systems did not get 100% complete before winter hit us. So we've got a few things to clean up on that. And then I've been working with Mr. Carl and a small team at Riverview for improvements for parent pickup. So we figured out he came up with some great ideas. And we're going to have parent pickup actually work the way that it should. So you pick up students on the correct side of the

vehicle. And I've been working with Ms. WAPUS as well about how that's going to work and the logistics of that. Right now the underground and survey work is being done. We're waiting on that and then we can get the drawings put together. The hope is that that will get finished this summer. We didn't have money to do everything and part of Andrew's had been done already. Yeah, you had. So we focused just on those two. Good question. Terry, could you talk a little bit about also a couple of summer projects maybe behind the football stadium for the band that we're doing some paving as well as the tower that we're looking at for the West Lawn? Yeah, I apologize for not keeping those on here. So out of 22 Bond as well to the sound

system. So right now band and the way that they get out there is basically they use the same gate that the public's using to get in and out. We came up with a design to put a separate gate for them, and then they'll have their own sidewalk that is under the bleachers, but it's their own path to then stage because, as you guys know, they stage and take up a lot of room, and then they're out there for halftime, and then they're back out again. So this is a new sidewalk that's basically eight feet wide that allows them access, and they're out of the way, and then they have their own gate, like I said. the band practice area, which is this parking lot here on the west side of the high school, they wanted

a tower, an observation tower, to be able to see the performance rather than just wheeling out the short one that they have. We looked at putting it just outside of door four here, but the utilities that are in the ground look like spaghetti right there. So we decided we're going to move it down a little bit, and then this parking lot is eventually going to get resealed and recoded anyways and restriped, and then this practice area will just shift down a little bit, and that tower will be out here on the corner of the building is the plan. So working on getting underground located there, and then hopefully both of those projects will get done this summer. That's the plan. Yeah, that's the plan. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Having a son that was in a marching

band for three years, it's pretty serious. And Huntington continues to improve and do good things. And I heard they're getting to go to Lucas Oil, so that is awesome. Okay, okay. So you mentioned the wrestling room. Yes. Is there anything we can do with that room? Or what long-term, what are we going to have to do? So what we looked at was, is there any opportunity to grow it, to accommodate both girls and boys now in wrestling? And there's no, you don't own enough property to keep going. So we're looking at that for maybe the next bond and try to, could we find a space to add on? that current space could be used for storage. If you go upstairs in what used to be the old weight room way back when, there's a lot

of stuff just stored up there in big plywood storage containers that have been built over the years. And it's very cumbersome to get that stuff up and down and everything else. So we're hoping we can... create new space for wrestling, and then utilize the existing wrestling for storage and making that a little bit better. Plus, if you do more marching band activities here, you need a lot of space to host that and accommodate it. And they would love to have some of that space as well. So when the field house was going to be done, there was something that was going to be done around the field house of having a great room on that second floor area where that elevator is. Is that still a possibility of rebuilding it in that area? Or is

it because it got cut back in the day, it's not there anymore? Yeah, I wasn't aware of that. Oh, I learned a lot. You hang around a little bit, you ask questions, you find out a lot of stuff. I'll do some digging because if it was designed to accommodate that, then I should be able to figure that out from looking at the drawings. We'll talk. Okay, yeah. I always learn something new. I think that's it, Cindy. I think I'm out of slides. It's just been great, all the projects since I've been on the board. Since you've come on, we've been able to knock out and get this high school remodeled. Thank you very much. I appreciate everything you've done. You still got to let me have one stick of dynamite. Come on. Just one down

there. What's that? Just one stick of dynamite down there. Come on. No, you can. Just go somewhere else. No, it's a pleasure. It's been great to come back and help and see these things happen, especially in this building because I lived in here for four years. And some of the other buildings didn't exist when I was here to now get to work on those. And a few that did, I might have been there for a track meet or something when I played sports. But I really appreciate what you guys provide, the opportunities for us. Looking forward to what we can keep doing. And as Mr. Brimberry knows, I don't slow down. So let's just, and he doesn't let me. So let's just keep going and get as much done as we possibly can. Gary's right.

Maybe we've just been lucky, but we've been under budget on several things. And they say luck's opportunity in preparation, right? So let's continue to get really lucky over the next few years. We really appreciate you. Okay. Thank you. Okay. Thank you, Terry. Appreciate all you do, buddy. Thanks for your time tonight. Our last session, I guess you will, of the three that we're talking about tonight, we have the... Russ Clousing, our interim tech director, is here. And absolutely one of the most respected people in our district, Mrs. Gray, gets to present a little bit tonight. And the topic tonight is board docs and the transfer to diligent. So I appreciate Cindy and Russ being here to talk a little bit about that. Cindy, you're not going to sit there, right? I am going to stay

here because unfortunately I can't advance the slides from out there. My clicker won't work from that far away, so I apologize for that. It's been brought to our attention over time here that it's time to make a move. Everything continues to change and grow along the way and board ducts that we've used now since 2013, it's time for it to grow too. So historically, I guess you want to see the presentation, don't you? How about that? I'm not usually speaking and doing this at the same time. So historically, when I took this job, we had paper packets, paper board packets. We evolved to putting them on a CD and then eventually flash drive where you could have multiple packets on a flash drive for board members. And so moved to... First real technology system beyond

that was for the record and in 2013 board docks It has served us very very well. We have had a lot of opportunities with it and It's been extremely user-friendly Diligent actually purchased board docks in 2016 They like the product, they purchased it, and they have created their own product and have slowly been transitioning districts over to it. So they have been supporting BoardDocs up to this point. They're not growing it, and their support is going to soon be going away. So with that, we have 13 years of data in BoardDocs. 13 years of history, presentations, documents that are all there that are really, really important. We actually reference those on a daily basis. So with that, if we are able to get your permission, we would like to bring back to the next board

meeting to migrate over to Diligent Community. They would migrate all of our data for us. We would not have to do any of that on our own because we're already a customer of theirs. They would migrate that. data over for us and we wouldn't lose that important historical data. I'm going to let Russ talk about why we want to make the change. Yeah, so one of the reasons why we're coming now to the board to do this change is we've heard that other districts that have used board docs or are currently using board docs are receiving letters with a, hey, you need to move. You need to move to Diligent or move to a new platform. And so we are trying to stay ahead of that and move on our timeline to really let our...

be able to flesh it out and get it up to speed and running the way we want before we are forced to move. And a big thing is we're going to take this opportunity with Cindy leaving to bring on some more training and bring on more individuals to be a part of board docs or diligent. And this will allow us to have people to be actually able to take vacation and not worry about getting a phone call because they're the sole person responsible for a platform. Opportunity to train I'm gonna grow on that just a little bit more here. I was trained in 2013 on board ducks and The very next day put a packet out It was that user-friendly the person who trained me helped me build the back end of it while they

were training me and I have been the sole person who has has taken care of board docs. I add users, I remove users, I reset passwords. That has all of the approval trees, anything like that that you see in there, has all been me doing that on the back end. And that's never good to have just one person handling all of that. It needs to be a shared responsibility where there's more hands in that. So this is a great opportunity for us to do that as well. BoardDocs was designed for different people in your district to be able to upload agenda items to the agenda, and then it goes through an approval tree process. So I had created instructions and sat with the different people in the district that I trained, food service, technology, special

services, HR, so that they could each upload their own items. then it would go to their supervisor for approval and then it eventually I was what was called a super user I was the last person in line to approve whatever those items are to go on the agenda so this will be a good opportunity to for us to involve our technology staff and have them handling more of the back end of that system instead of just one person handling that Then the biggest way technology is going to be involved is we're going to look at setting up the single sign-on and so it'll change a little bit of how you log into diligence and the big thing is allows technology to be a part for resetting passwords, managing who's in diligence, their permissions. And it

gives us an ability to do that where we already do that for all of our other software platforms. So it allows technology to be that one place to call if you're having trouble signing into anything, rather than having this one outlier program that somebody else is responsible for. I wanted to elaborate just a little bit when Russ said other districts were getting letters and saying they had to make the move. You all have sent me several times to the Diligent or BoardDocs conferences, and so I've had contacts there that I've met over time and have stayed in communication with and have started to talk about when our district might make that move. And I have a feeling, Russ and I talked about that, maybe why we haven't gotten the letter yet is because we've been

at least... talking with them on that. So next we wanted to talk a little bit about State Board of Accounts. Every other year we're audited by State Board of Accounts. BoardDocs has saved us an enormous amount of in-office time because of the documents that are already loaded in the system. We're able to give them access when they come into our office, and they are able to look up a lot on their own. We're used to we had to go to the file cabinet and pull paper files. They'd give us a whole list, and that took a lot of our time. They are able to look up a lot of that information on their own, which is a big time savings for our staff as well. Policies. That's a big piece of what we do. We

are partnered with Neola and board ducks For all of our policy pieces and the edits and the updates all get made within that system Diligent is working to partner with Neola. They have been working on that process. They aren't quite there yet They're anticipating moving that over in 2027 So in the meantime, if we're able to migrate our data over and begin using Diligent Community now, we would have a link that would go back to BoardDocs just to that policy piece. So we would continue to utilize that until they're able to bring that whole thing over where it's in Diligent. So we wouldn't lose our access to all the policies, administrative guidelines, and things that we have in there now. And it would continue to, we could update our policies along the way. We looked

at their live stream platform. They have their own dedicated one for board meetings. However, after looking at it, it is an additional cost to the district, and we really wanted to continue to put our board meetings on the same YouTube channel that we use for everything else. That way it's a one-stop shop for if you're trying to find where we're live streaming an event, or if we are, you know, to check one place rather than splitting that up. Additionally, for funding, the technology department will continue to cover the cost of diligence. The difference between diligence and board docs is a few thousand dollars, so not a big jump. And for what we're getting, a much more modern, updated website and also having an actual development plan to bring new features, it's surprising at how little

that increase is. This is from diligence. This is their migration process Steps one and two are completed by diligence support they create our site and will be involved a little bit with Picking up the colors making sure our logos on there will work with Kenny to make sure everything is done correctly and properly on that They'll migrate all of our data over so we don't have to worry about missing anything And then step three is the kickoff of meeting and training. That's the big part for us. That's where technology will set up that single sign-on. And also where Cindy and Cindy's replacement and hopefully another individual, our goal is to have two trained in the admin center on how to use BoardDocs, the full back-end part. And that's where we'll receive that training. Once we

are trained and we feel like we're ready we can move to step four which will be the initial launch and running of the board Medi Once we go to step four we get 60 days where we can continue to use board Docs And so that gives us a nice ability that if we run into problems at the board meeting, we can go back for a board meeting and run it in BoardDocs, so that way we're still following all of our proper procedures. But we're able to then continue and hopefully resolve that issue that would have caused us to go back to BoardDocs. After 60 days, BoardDocs gets locked, and we're not able to make changes to it. But it's still there for historical access. And so even though the data is carried over, if you're

used to the way it looks, you'll be able to go there for, they don't give us a time frame, but usually there's a period of time where that will be available also. This is a little demonstration they gave us of what a webpage usually looks like. As you can see in the top right, that is what the board agenda would look like. And on the left is where our home page would be. You would still be able to set goals as a board and track those goals. And that's what you see over here down on the bottom right there. It shows you where you're at with those goals and how you're tracking those. It's very user-friendly as well. It just looks a little bit different. And I understand it has a much better search process

than the current BoardDocs has. Here are three examples of school districts that are currently using diligent community. So if you'd like to take a look at those, each one of those, Glenbrook District, Plainfield, and Sarasota schools are all using diligent community, and you can see those there. One other item I wanted to mention is during the pandemic. They actually opened up board docks opened up the opportunity to use board ducks Pro I believe it was where you could have your committees in board ducks as well So we've been utilizing board ducks also for some of our committees like discussions in the calendar committee We've used it for administrators. We could create as many of other committees as we want it continues to store historical data They're just like it does for our school board meetings

and that's been really valuable. They didn't take that away from us either. They kept allowed us to keep that at no extra cost all this time. And that's been really valuable and diligent community would have that same opportunity if we decided to move forward. I think Russ and I can hopefully answer any questions you might have, or we will find the answers for you. I just know I've talked to a couple of board members that have communities already. They switched from board docs, and they really, one of the things they mentioned was the searching functionality is a lot easier to use and a lot easier to find stuff. So we look forward to it. Yeah, I. Coming from years ago sitting in the crowd before board docs came on and from a person sitting in

the crowd to now what the public has access to is awesome. And so I love board docs and I love the search part and I've used it a lot. And so if diligent is better, I can't wait. Mr. Melcher is going to have some withdrawal problems for a month or so, but we'll adjust. We trust your guys' judgment and glad that we got started on this a little early. So looking forward to it. Let us know what you need from us. Will do. Thank you. Thank you. If there's nothing further, do I need to take a motion to adjourn on this? I guess I do. I'll take one. So moved. Thank you, Mr. Wall. Second by Mr. Thompson. All those in favor, signify by saying aye. Aye. Those opposed?
