001SPEAKER 1 Good evening everyone. Welcome to our board meeting. My name is Lisa Dabbs I'm very honored to be your president and I'm calling the meeting of the East Cedar City School District Board of Education to order tonight. Thank you so much for hosting us here at Mulberry and to everyone that is a part of the Mulberry team including their principal and all the other staff that helped to make this night possible. Thank you thank you so much. We're going to move to the flag salute. And I want to recognize the Mulberry Elementary students, Ricky Perez, Melissa Diaz. And they're going to lead us in the flag salute. You want to come on up? To the flag, put your right hand over your heart. Ready? Begin. I pledge allegiance to the flag, to the republic,

002for under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. You may be seated. Thank you. Check, check. Thank you so much Ricky and Melissa would you like to let us know if any family joined you this evening. Your mom is here. Where is she. Thank you mom for being here. And how about you Ricky. I'm sorry. OK but that's OK. That's right. That's right. All right. We're going to continue with our employee of the year recognition for Mulberry Elementary School. Good evening everybody. Yes, enjoy the cuteness there. They're not performing. They're just cheering for everybody that gets an award today Thank you so much for being here with us tonight It is with great pleasure that I introduce miss Rochelle Martinez as Mulberry's teacher of the year We were lucky enough to hire her back

003in 2018 She hit the ground running and she has not stopped. Her students benefit greatly from having her as a teacher as she quickly builds rapport with her students and families and does everything she can to make every student feel welcome as she helps them grow academically and emotionally. Not only does she do a wonderful job in her own classroom, but she also graciously takes time out of her very busy day to help all of our school with some extra fun. She currently hosts the Yearbook Club and the PBIS Spirit Clubs after school. If there's any extra activities at Mulberry, I'm sure she's going to be willing to help, as she usually does. In fact, just this morning we had a really cute, what did we call it, the snowflake shake? It was really cute.

004It was really fun. You had to be there to see it. Stickers of snowflakes were pasted on teachers and they had to shake them off and the kids cheer. It was super cute. And she and the PBIS committee come up with really cute ideas. I don't know how she has the energy honestly but we are very blessed and lucky to have Miss Martinez at our school. She does wonderful things for our kids our families. Congratulations and thank you so much for everything you do. And congratulations on being Teacher of the Year. I'm going to put it here. I'm super clumsy. I will drop that. I thought I had a moment to like breathe for a second before I got it right off the bat. Okay. So good evening, everyone. Thank you so much for this

005award. I am truly grateful. Thank you to Ms. Salamanca and Ms. Frickel for your kindness, guidance, and leadership. Your support helps us do our best for our students every day, and I appreciate all that you do. Thank you to all the Mulberry staff and peeps. I feel fortunate to work with. such caring and dedicated educators. I continue to learn and grow because of you and you make every day fun and inspiring. Most of all, thank you to my students. I love coming to class every day and seeing your sweet little faces. You inspire me and motivate me to make everything we do meaningful. And watching you learn and grow is the greatest reward. I feel lucky to be part of this district and especially Mulberry. I was born and raised in Whittier and attended schools

006in this district including Orchardale, Hillview, and Listerna High School. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. This might sound... Common but I was one of those little girls who would play school with my little sister who is now also a teacher in San Diego So our dreams came true I had so many wonderful teachers growing up in this district, and I just wanted to share the same enthusiasm Creativity and fun that they gave me And then when I started substitute teaching, I hoped to work for this district, and I immediately loved coming to Mulberry because everyone was so kind and welcoming. And then being asked to join this school was very special to me as I had dreamed of being part of this community and this district. And so finally,

007thank you to my family for your love, patience, and support, and your encouragement and always listening to me and always standing by me. I love teaching and I'm incredibly grateful to be part of this community. Miss Alma, venga para acá. All right, it is, oh yes. It is my pleasure again to introduce our Classified Employee of the Year, Miss Alma Curiel. She is not only an amazing supervision assistant PTA secretary Mulberry DLAC and Mulberry LCAP representative. She is constantly a ray of sunshine on our campus. We can always hear her cheerful laugh around as she's helping students and of course the staff love her as well. I don't think I've ever seen her without a smile on her face. See? Told you. She enjoys her job and helping Mulberry in any way she can, and

008we can tell. She's always looking for ways to keep busy once she's completed her job duties, and we can always rely on Alma to help us out. She is always willing to support the Mulberry community, and she takes great pride in doing it well. She takes initiative and works from her heart, which makes what she does even more valuable. I believe that her being a Mulberry parent also gives her a little extra umph to want to help. Her genuine desire to be a support is felt in everything that she does. And of course, as you will see shortly, she's done a wonderful job with our Mulberry Folklorico that we'll be performing for you shortly. Thank you Alma for being such a wonderful person to work with and thank you for everything you do for us

009and our babies. Congratulations. Thank you. I'm not preparing my list. Sorry. Thank you very much. My mood very school. Thank you for the opportunity. Thank you. My is with your district. Thank you everybody. I'm sorry. Thank you so much. My family, my husband is here, my daughters and my parents in the sky. Thank you. Thank you. All right. And our theme this year is hooting it out of the park and we are excited to move forward with our mission to challenge and enrich students on a daily basis. We take our academics seriously and our fun as well. We have all these clubs after school for our babies. We are very lucky to have such a wonderful team consisting of a highly dedicated staff. We have a lot of them here tonight. Thank you for being

010here scholars. A community of wonderful parents and students and of course a very energetic PTA to ensure that students. to ensure student success and promote a sense of belonging while also pushing forward the district vision because every interaction definitely matters. And I'm not going to say it the way I should but let's play ball. I'm not I don't have that growly voice. That's it for us. Thank you. And up next we have Miss Frickel who has a special treat for our board. Good evening. My name is Sandy Ferkel and I'm the intervention specialist here at Mulberry. And tonight I have the sincere pleasure of presenting our gift to the board. This year our district is grounded in a powerful reminder that every interaction matters. There is no truer statement. The relationships we nurture and the

011positive interactions we create with our students, staff, and families shape experiences, build trust, and leave lasting impressions that extend far beyond what we may ever even see. In these moments, both big and small, we have the opportunity to change a day, influence a path, and strengthen a community. Tonight I have a story of a little girl who wrote, and of course illustrated, a book in fourth grade. Now, this story was very well written, but what happened next is what made all the difference in this child's life. This little girl shared her story with her teacher. Her teacher praised her for the beautiful job she had done and let her share her story with the class. Then her teacher told her she could be an amazing author one day. This interaction meant the world to this

012little girl. And as the girl grew up, went to college, got married, started a family, and became a preschool teacher, she always had this interaction in the back of her mind. Finally, this little girl retired and decided to pursue her dream of writing a children's book. And becoming the author her fourth grade teacher said she could be. And, as I am sure you figured out, she did write a book and became a published author. Now... This little girl is very special to me as she is my sister. Deborah Malone and her favorite teacher growing up attending Mulberry Elementary School was also my favorite teacher when I attended Mulberry Jennifer McLaury and I even had the pleasure of working with Miss McLaury when I returned to Mulberry as a teacher 30 years ago when my sister

013came to Mulberry last year to share her book with our students staff and families I invited Miss McLaury to her reading and because interactions mattered to this teacher she came So I want everyone to really take the words to heart that every interaction matters because they truly do. I take great pride in working for a district that makes these relationships a priority and understands the importance of sustaining meaningful relationships developed through years of collaboration and trust. Tonight, we have an autographed copy of Doing What I Ought to by my our own Mulberry Elementary School and East Whittier City School District author Deborah Malone as a symbol of the lasting effects of these meaningful interactions. Thank you. And as she's passing out the wonderful books, I hope you enjoy them. It's very cute. I'm inviting the

014Folklorico ladies to come on up. And then I promise I stop talking. I think I'm done, right? While we're waiting for our music, we just want to thank our Mulberry Folklorico dancers who are going to begin to perform. And I do want to share a little tidbit with all of you. I danced flamenco and flamenco for 17 years, and I started dancing at five. So this is absolutely beautiful to see that we have such an amazing troupe of dancers here at Mulberry, and we cannot wait to see them perform. Let's give another round of applause to our Mulberry Flamenco troupe. Let's give them another wonderful round of applause. I also want to make sure that the board and I thank Mrs. Salamanca for her beautiful presentation today. And again, thank you so much for hosting

015us. We really, really appreciate that and the beautiful book also. So now I have the pleasure of recognizing Dr. Lilia Vargas, who's going to present the employee recognitions from Mulberry Elementary. And she's going to be presenting a number of other little pins as well. So take it away. Thank you. Good evening, Mulberry Community Board of Education and cabinet members. I'm Dr. Vargas, and I am the proud assistant superintendent here with the district. And this is one of my favorite things to do every single month is really give recognition to our amazing employees. We are truly blessed to have employees who have been with us for many, many years. As a matter of fact, a couple years ago, BACK, WE REALLY STARTED LOOKING AT HOW LONG OUR EMPLOYEES HAD BEEN WITH US, AND WE REALIZED THAT

016WE HAVE A LOT OF EMPLOYEES WHO STARTED THEIR CAREER HERE AND END THEIR CAREER HERE, AND THAT REALLY SPEAKS VOLUMES TO THE LEVEL OF COMMITMENT AND THE PASSION THAT OUR EMPLOYEES HAVE FOR OUR STUDENTS, OUR COMMUNITIES, AND OUR DISTRICT. SO TONIGHT... I am very proud to be recognizing some pretty big milestones to some of our employees here at Mulberry. So what we're going to be doing is we're going to be calling them up and we're going to be awarding them their service pins for the milestones they have reached. So I want to start off with a pretty big one, three decades of service. Let's call up Ms. Liliana Contreras. Come on up, Liliana. Let's give her a big round of applause. With two decades of service, we have Miss Cynthia Ortiz. Let's give her a

017big round of applause. And with one decade of service, let's give her a big round of applause, Miss Yadira Rinaldi. We also want to give a big shout out for past milestones, and we have Miss Sylvia Banuelos with 25 years of service. So let's give her a big round of applause as well. Now in our journey and research and trying to really recognize employees who had been with us for a very long time We also realized that we had many employees who not only have served their entire careers with us But they also attended our schools and as such we did develop the homegrown Service pin for our employees and I'm very proud to recognize our Mulberry Homegrown employees. So when I call your name please come up and we are sharing some fun facts

018that were submitted as well. So our first homegrown employee is Monique Arriola. So if she's here, please come on up. Miss Monique attended Laurel and East Whittier, kindred through eighth grade. And her fun fact story, she said, my maiden name when I attended Laurel and East Whittier was Monique Ahumada. Dr. Eastwood was a principal at Laurel Elementary at the time, and she allowed my mom, who was a certificated teacher at LAUSD, to start a cheer program. This was from 1998 to 2000 when I was a fourth and fifth grader. We went to competition and won first places both years and even marched in the parade for the city of Whittier. What a wonderful memory. Our next employee, let's give her a big round of applause for Lilia Denikola. Attended East Whittier 7th and 8th grade.

019Her fun fact story is I moved to Whittier to finish off middle school at East Whittier Middle School for 7th and 8th grade, then attended Cal High. I have a daughter who currently attends Laurel Elementary and has been there since kindergarten. She will now be entering 3rd grade. So definitely generations coming to East Whittier. Congratulations. Our next employee, look at that cute little picture, loving the bangs. Sandy Frickel, who attended Mulberry and Hillview Kinder through 8th grade. Fun fact and story, my husband and I both attended schools in the district from kindergarten through eighth grade, meeting for the first time at Hillview Middle School. Years later, all three of our daughters followed in our footsteps, attending East Whittier City School District Schools for their entire K through eighth grade journeys. My mom attended East Whittier

020Middle School, and my aunt went to Mulberry Elementary when they first moved to California as children. When I was in third grade at Mulberry, I planted the yellow trumpet tree that still stands proudly near the front office. I remember when the Quonset hut stood next to the fourth grade wing where a ball wall now stands. I remember film strips, record players, and pianos in every classroom. And now we are excited to bring up Miss Evangeline Lira, who attended Mulberry and Hillview Kinder through sixth grade. Fun fact story was I'm working at the site that I attended as a student, and that's always fun. And after hearing our Mulberry Teacher of the Year, there was no submission on your behalf. However, I do want to give you a shout out because I heard you are a

021homegrown employee. So let's give it up to Ms. Rochelle Martinez. And we will make sure that we send your homegrown pin. at a later time, but we are very fortunate to have amazing employees who dedicate their entire lives to our district and we know that you do make a difference in the life of our kids and our community because we hear the stories and they come back every every single time. So let's give them all a big round of applause. And finally, I would like to call our principal back up here to help me give this award. Every year, we value our community members, those that give volunteer service to all of our schools. And as such, we do give every school community the opportunity to... nominate an outstanding volunteer. And what they do is

022they get recognized here at the board meeting, but they also compete for our Whittier Area School Administrators Community Service Award recipient, who are then honored at a breakfast. And we do this in a community where we do value our volunteers. So I am very excited to welcome our volunteer, Ms. Vania Alvarado. Okay, Ms. Vania Alvarado has been a wonderful Mulberry parent for more than a decade. She tirelessly supports our school and our PTA with events, student activities, set up, breakdown, and her wonderful balloon arches that she donates as well. We have benefited greatly from her presence. It is with great pleasure that we nominate our Vania to be our WASA Volunteer of the Year. So congratulations and thank you so much for your service. So let's give all of our recipients a big round of

023applause. And again, we thank you so much for your outstanding service to our community. Thank you, Dr. Vargas. And again, I know our board is going to want to give special recognition to all of the wonderful Mulberry employees and our volunteers. But we just want to say thank you so much for everything that you do here at Mulberry and for all of the children and parents here in our district. The next section is a Board of Education Recognition Month celebration. It is an action item. Can I get a motion? I move the recommendation that the Board of Education approve the resolution to make January Board of Education Recognition Month. Thank you, can I get a second? Okay, it's been moved and seconded and I think that Dr. Patterson you want to say a few words?

024Yeah, so this month is the Board of Education recognition month. It just is an honor to be able to work with such a dedicated group of six individuals here in our district. The longevity that we have as a board is Very very impressive. If we maybe need to look into longevity pins I don't think we've given you guys longevity pins. Do we give you one Christine. Oh we did. Last year. Okay, so we went they are the og Longevity pin winners, but it is a testament, you know the more consistency and stability you can have at the Governance level the better it is for a district so that there's not confusion about what the priorities are in the district We've done a variety of different things each year to recognize our board's contribution however this

025year I did want to just this was kind of an action item just to see if you guys would vote unanimously to approve this because we've had some non-unanimous votes lately. So with our recognition it's basically we co-opted this from CSBA because the California School Boards Association really does work to be able to make sure that they advocate for our board members for our districts for funding and ultimately to be able to make sure that the focus of our decisions is on all 7,400 students because there are many times competing interests and different perspectives and prerogatives and it's our board to be able to take all of that information and make global decisions for our district as a whole. And that is why we have been so stable over the last two decades as a

026district and continue that trajectory. So we are just very thankful for all that you do as a board and All of these things that are captured in this resolution are just a testament to the way in which you six, Ms. Acrera is not here, but the way you six lead on behalf of our 7,400 students and 1,200 employees. So thank you very much. We would like you to just see if you guys are unanimous. Yes. Okay, so is there any other questions or discussion board? Okay, hearing none, Mr. Valenzuela, will you call for the vote? Mr. Tiaga? Aye. Yes. Mr. Aparicio? Yes. Ms. Chacon-Kennedy? Yes. Ms. Jabs? Yes. Mr. Baird? Yes. Motion passes. All right, thank you. And we're so appreciative to all of you for being here with us as well. And I know

027this as a board, again, there'll be personal statements that the board wants to make, but it is an honor to serve with everybody here. And it's just a great opportunity for us to be able to work with our communities, work with our constituents, work with our students and our teachers and our classified employees. as often as we can to make sure we're doing everything we can to serve the number one reason why we are board members, which is to serve the students in this community. The next item is going to be an action item as well. It's the approval of the minutes. Can I get a motion? I move the recommendation that the Board of Education approve the December 15, 2025 Board of Education meeting minutes. Can I get a second? Second. It's been moved

028and seconded. Board, before we take this for a vote, is there any discussion? Are there any items that need to be changed or fixed in the minutes? Mrs. Dabbs, I did want to point out something that we did put into the minutes. At the at the last board meeting we had brought the first interim report for the approval of the board Due to an error on my part. We had indicated that that was a discussion item when it was supposed to been Written as an action item at my counsel the board did take a vote on that However, we did we did reach out to legal counsel to determine whether or not that was just a procedural error out of an abundance of caution we were Counseled to bring that back for a revote. So

029as you can see in the minutes, we reflected all of that We have communicated with the Los Angeles County Office of Education to let them know that Even though the first interim was submitted in the timeline and it was supposed to be submitted They did ask us to resubmit the certification Pending the vote tonight. So we did indicate that that vote on December 15th was an invalid vote and will not be recorded. All right. Anybody have any questions for dr. Patterson or any questions? So there's no impact on anything from the guy not at all. Okay. Thank you. Mrs. Venezuela. Can you call for the vote? Mr. Tiago? Yes, mr. Aparicio. Yes, mr. Kennedy. Yes, mrs. Dabbs Yes, mr. Baird. Yes motion passes Okay, thank you so much. Now we come to the part of

030our meeting where we have the opportunity for our board to share some comments. Mr. Chiaga, would you like to go first? Sure. Again, I wanted to, like Ms. Dabbs mentioned, I wanted to congratulate and thank the staff, students, and parents here at Mulberry Elementary. It's always nice to be able to get to the school sites and see the great things you've got going here. I want to give a big shout-out to our two student groups, our cheerleaders and our floccotico dancers. Great job. It's nice to be able to have both sets of types of dancers. Students did a great job. A little nervous. That's okay. That's okay. They did a great job. I know that being able to have those culturally relevant programs in our district is very, very important. So thank you that Mulberry

031has that program here and maybe we can expand and continue to grow those things in our schools. I want to thank our principal Ms. Salamanca and the staff. Congratulations to our employees of the year. It's always nice to recognize not only them, our homegrown, our service years, those really longevity people that really make this school. So I want to thank you. And parents, as you know, as your students are here at the school, you have staff here that have been here for a long time. They value the work that they're doing here, and we're very proud that they're doing some great things here at Mulberry. So congratulations to everybody. Our volunteer, Ms. Vania Alvarado. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You do things because you want to. You're not getting paid. You get paid just

032by having a big heart. So we want to thank you for taking the time to join us here and doing all the great things for volunteering for our site. thank you for the book the otter book i got an autographed copy so maybe if you know miss malone is going to become a world famous author after her tenure here i have one of the first copies so thank you very much for that it's nice to be able to have that and lastly i want to thank dr patterson and the district for the board recognition we do things on the board you know not for the glory or the glam because we really want what's best for our school district all five of us all six of us come on the board because we know how

033important our role is here and how the impacts of our decisions are for the students and we really truly want the best for our district and we work with our employee organizations our unions and our staff to provide the best service and it's nice to be able to work along my colleagues even though sometimes we get on each other's cases every once in a while that's part of that's what happens but we definitely work really really well because at the end we know we want what's best for district itself proud to along with them and thank you for that recognition thank you mister mr bear uh... yeah i just want to congratulate the classified employee of the year and the certificate waiver i'm sorry i forgot your name like jerry was sick it could make

034sense but i forgot it was on the boards are really sorry But I'd also like to wish everyone a happy holidays because I know we got cut back. We wanted a few more days, but no, we had to go back to work, go back to school, do all the stuff. But I hope everyone had a happy holidays, whether you went on vacation, maybe did some things with family. Whatever you decided to do the holidays, I hope that you had a lot of fun and that you're ready for school. Thank you, Mr. Baird. Mrs. Kenney? Yes, thank you. Good evening everybody. I just want to say I'm so happy to be here at Mulberry because this is my school I feel like I'm home my kids both my kids came to school here and I think

035my daughter started here and Don't say anything 1984 But and then my son started eight years later, so I really love Mulberry school I I can't tell you the teachers were all wonderful, and I I did see somebody in the back But now she's gone. I saw sue honey sue honeycutt was here. She used to work in the front office I think I saw her and then I think was that a principal was that mr. God that was that mr. God that was with it miss Nagata was here, too She was a principal here, and they're gone. I went, but I wanted to say hello But yeah, there's been a lot of office personnel since my daughter started here in 1984. I think the first principal, he was in a wheelchair. Mr. Wilcox, I think

036it was. Mr. Wilcox, yeah. Yeah. So anyway, I just want to say I'm so happy to be here, and I love my Mulberry School. And I'm glad that everybody's back from vacay and going back to hitting the books and all that good stuff. But other than that, I think that's all I have to say. Thank you, Mrs. Kennedy. It's so beautiful to hear that history. Mr. Aparicio? Yeah, I just want to say good evening and Happy New Year to everyone. Thank you to Ms. Alamonka and the Mulberry staff for hosting our board meeting here tonight. I definitely really appreciate it. Thank you to Ricky and Melissa for leading us in the pledge and for being leaders at your school. So hopefully continue on at the middle school and beyond. So thank you for that. Congrats

037to Mrs. Martinez and Mr. Carrillo on being Employees of the Year. So thank you for all your service that you do here. Also thank you to all the folklorico dancers and the cheerleaders. It was a great performance by the folklorico girls, so that was awesome. And cheerleaders, you know, hopefully, like I said, same thing, hopefully you could keep it up at the middle school and even at the high school and beyond as well too. And then also thank you for the book, great book. So definitely looking forward to reading that maybe tonight. Congrats to all the longevity recipients and the homegrown recipients. Like I said, that's always definitely a special honor, something that we started a little while ago. And like I said, that's always great just to see our employees coming back, staying here,

038and just kind of just because they enjoy our district. So that's always great just to kind of see all that. So just thank you very much. And like I said, I always say thank you to our staff for coming up with that idea. So thank you very much for that. And like I said, hopefully everyone has a great year now. Thank you. Thank you, Mr. Aparicio. I just want to also echo the comments of my board, and I do want to thank our two students who led the flag salute, and I want to recognize Mrs. Salamanca and her team and her classified and certificated employees, which I hope are still here, because forgive me, I should have said, please stick around so we can take photos with you, correct? Yes. Okay. There's a little crap

039in here. Okay. We'll make it happen. Okay. Okay. And then, of course, to all of the other recipients, 20 years, 30 years, the homegrown, the WASA, I mean, it's absolutely incredible, and it's such an honor for me as the board president to see the beauty of that commitment that is happening here, particularly at Mulberry. It's just absolutely incredible. And then also I just want to add that. I did dance for 17 years. And I want to let you know that I want to echo what Mr. Uchiaga said. Having that opportunity for these young women and these young men maybe who will be joining is just incredible. It can potentially lead them to many amazing adventures. So I started out at five dancing, and I danced at public parks as a little girl. But then I

040was able to progress and dance at the Hollywood Bowl. I was able to dance at the Music Center. I was able to dance at other world-renowned spots here in Los Angeles, and it was absolutely incredible. And I was able to meet some world-renowned Placurico dancers, and as a young woman, it really helped to build in me the confidence to let me know that as I was dancing and representing my culture as a second-generation Latina, that I felt like I could do anything. I could do anything that I wanted to do, and being in that... amazing group, helped me to feel connected to my culture. So I really want to say that it's so beautiful to see that we have this amazing program. And I would love to see it, as Mr. Ortega said, perhaps moving

041on to other schools as well. But thank you, thank you so very much. And I also want to say, Mrs. Salamanca, I love your theme of hooting it out of the park. I think that's so great. My youngest son, Aaron, collects owls and has for many, many years. and I know that he would just love that theme, but it really says a lot and speaks a lot to the way that you are leading the group here, leading the students, leading the team here, to do it with vigor and to do it with rigor and to do it in an exciting way. So I really want to thank you for doing that. And I want to thank Dr. Patterson for recognizing us as a board. We do work very hard together and... We do things together

042as best we can, even though we might have differences of opinion from time to time. But we know when we took that oath of office, it is to serve the students here at the East Wheeler City School District. That is the main goal of a board. And if you go through and you look at the California School Board Association, when you take that oath, they remind you, as Mr. Otiaga also said, that that is a commitment. And even though we care very deeply about our teachers and our classified employees, and our administrators. The main goal is always to work together moving forward to make sure that everything we're doing is serving the students, which then ultimately serves the adults that are here as well. So thank you so very much. And I want to also

043welcome our YouTube audiences here. And I also want to say Happy New Year as our first meeting back from 2025 as we start here in 2026. And we are looking forward to working together and being a very coordinated and very tight board of education so that we are moving in the direction that our students need us to do so thank you so very much and now we want to take a few minutes take a short five minute break to take some photos with our recipients tonight so i think we're going to roll out the step and repeat so we can do that stick around with us and thank you so very much csea comments And I want to invite our CSEA rep who's going to speak today. No comments from CSEA today? Okay. All right.

044CSEA is going to pass on comments today. Thank you. Next would be our E-Way comments. Do we have anybody representing E-Way today that's going to share with us? Yes? Okay. Our president. Welcome. Good evening, everybody. Happy New Year. The thing I find most difficult about the New Year is every time I have to date something, I always do 25 or the year before, and it takes me a month or two to actually go, oh, yeah, it's the New Year. So happy New Year, everybody. Hope everyone had a restful couple weeks off. With that in mind, discussion item number three is gonna be next year's instructional calendar up for approval. We hope you do approve it because I think this will be a nice thing for everybody here is instead of the two weeks and a

045day, we get two weeks and two days for the winter break. So I think people will like that a little bit more. We also want to thank you on behalf of EWI for returning the dual immersion aids. We really appreciate that. It's a really successful program and I don't think any tweaks to it. Let's keep that program successful by not making any tweaks to it that are going to take it off track a little bit. Our next TTD is at the end of the month on January 30th. I understand that these days are planned well in advance, so changing them now is difficult, but I've been saying it at a couple board meetings is we would like input. We're professionals. Most of us have master's degrees. We'd love to have input into what our training

046days are, a discussion about the things that we think can benefit our classrooms the most. Past practice, we had a seminar approach. This happened several years in a row. It was a while ago, but it was a menu of options. So it wouldn't be just a full TTD of the same thing. We'd have choices about what we're going to do. And it was led by teachers in our district. So the cost of that is a lot less expensive than having an outside consultant do it. And when we did our ewe survey about the last TTD, that was one thing that was brought up was they liked that menu of options, to be able to choose the different trainings that they could do at the elementary site that was hosting or the middle school site that

047was hosting. And they also like planning time, sometimes built into the end of those seminars or at the end of the day so they can plan what they've learned that day. At the last board meeting when you guys were discussing the DLI aids, Dr. Patterson made a comment saying this is not the time to speak because there was a little uproar in the crowd. And I understand that there does need to be a time where we're supposed to keep it to ourselves. But my real question is when is the time to speak? And I say this because... The board regulations have changed over the years where some issues or concerns, they cannot be relayed in three minutes up here. I know we have the three minute timer. They might need a little more time. And

048we cannot yield time to others. We used to be able to do that, but we can't do that anymore. So you just have three minutes. But when I looked at the board regulations, I'm quoting what they say. It says, with board consent. the president may increase or decrease the time allowed for public presentation depending on the topic and the number of persons wishing to be heard. So I know this can be interpreted in different ways, but I'm just curious if someone does have something to say, and it's really important, how they would be able to maybe get a little bit longer than three minutes so they could be able to present something like that. So just a curiosity on my part. And part of it is when people come up here, public speaking is not

049easy to do. Like when I was younger and had to learn how to public speak, I would actually get a lump in my throat where I couldn't talk until I could like... Gather myself and it took years and years of practice being up in front of people to be able to get better at doing this and I can still get better I've got there's improvements like go home and I watch this just to see how I did So it's not easy to do and people have better things to do on a Monday night I mean, there's some Monday night football playoff game right now Texans are up seven to six But people are here because they care and they want to be heard and they they want to Help make this district a better place

050and that's why they're up here And that's why sometimes when that three minutes is given Maybe a little more because they could they have a little bit more to say and I don't think anyone's gonna come up here and try to talk for ten minutes and If every interaction matters then stopping interactions from happening that matters, too So I don't come up here just to complain. I come up here to offer solutions And one solution I have is on each campus there are 20 opportunities to meet with each school's faculty because we have one staff meeting a month and one PLC on Thursdays every month. It's a perfect opportunity for board members, the superintendent, the cabinet, to run some of these meetings and communicate the district's vision and hear the staff out. Because when I

051go from site to site, I've gone to about half the sites on my site lunch visits, there are questions that I just can't answer. So I'm like, you need to speak at a board meeting or talk to somebody in the cabinet. But I think if we have a meeting that's open and a forum that's open to each staff at each school, we could hear what the district vision is and how teachers might be questioning that or offering solutions to make that even better and it's been years since i remember anything like this happening a quote that i live by especially being voted as the president of the Union is a good generals in the trenches with their troops in other words I can't ask people to do something unless I'm willing to do it myself

052and so I think you guys should come into the trenches with us and You can learn a lot because I've learned a ton from the people that are our membership. Thank you guys Thank you so much Next we have superintendent comments. Dr. Patterson. I just wanted to say that I'm sure you have seen we are beginning and have begun our in and out lunches for all of the schools that were able to get 100% today was at Hillview. We have several more this week and in the future, but that's once again that collaboration between our principals and our business services and nutrition services team to be able to make sure that our families are turning in their applications so it really does benefit our budget. And I've also started to go around meeting with each

053one of our student councils and ASBs just to hear directly from our students what it is that those student leaders are interested in doing. But that's all I have. Okay, great. Thank you, Dr. Patterson. Ms. Stubbs, can I please say something? Sure. I think we should ask Oliver how it went today at In-N-Out at Hillview. It was something with 400 7th and 8th graders trying to get into the line at the exact same time right after fourth period. We have people jumping over bars. We have people sprinting at full speed. And there's principal, vice principal. We have like 40 different whistles blowing at the exact same time. It was something else. But once everything was all huddled up, it was good. It was pretty well done. Everyone was fully controlled. But once, like the very

054beginning, you could tell kids were like, I want the food because... I want food. So that was something else. But besides that, it was very well controlled by the aides and all the staff members trying to help. And In-N-Out was like, everyone's like, I want my In-N-Out now. It's free In-N-Out. I want it now. And so the students. That was the teachers saying that. Yeah. Oh, the teachers also got free passes. So that's for the teachers. Great job. You get your free passes for all the hard work you do. It's very nice for the teachers that they get that. Wow, the kids are like screaming loud. It was good. It was helpful. Like you can see like students were happy with their In-N-Out and there wasn't much food like wasted. People were eating the food.

055They really enjoyed the animal style carrots that we gave. Oh yeah, they loved them. They were delicious. They for sure loved that. All right. Well, thank you, Mr. Baird, for that great explanation. And thank you, Mrs. Kennedy, for the question. Okay. Next on our agenda is very important. We have the opportunity for public comments. And Dr. Patterson, would you please facilitate? Yes, we have two public comments. I'd like to ask both to come up to the podium. First, we have Lisa Fragoso, and then second, Margo Rigg. You each have three minutes. Hi, my name is Lisa Pergoso and I teach third grade for the dual immersion program located at Ceres Elementary. And I wanted to start by saying on behalf of the dual immersion, thank you to the Board of Education and thank you, Dr.

056Patterson, for the extra time you took. in reviewing the budget and working with our principal, checking in on the schedules for our dual immersion aides, and for the positions that remain for next year. We really appreciate it. Thank you for the extra time you took in responding to emails and calls. We know that you have other things to do, and we appreciate that extra time that you took. It really meant a lot to us and to our dual immersion aides and ultimately for our students. We left the last meeting a little disillusioned and so we appreciate that extra time you took. and thank you for valuing the culture and ultimately like someone mentioned is the learning of our students. And speaking for the other dual immersion teachers as well, I want to ensure that we

057will do our best to make sure that their aides are giving that effective support and to advance their student learning. On a different note, I also wanted to talk about some plans for next year with the coaches. I know things are still being worked out, but I have a question in regards to the coaches, that series at Ocean View Elementary. student our schools will receive and I know how I don't know how much things are set but I know that The following year we may be sharing coaches I've heard that series or ocean view may not receive coach support And the reason being given is that we receive some support from the coats and foundation which is an external foundation That's funded externally to support certain teachers. So the way it works if you're not

058sure is five to seven teachers apply, get interviewed by the Coats and Foundation. Similarly, a mentor teacher gets chosen, interviewed, and also their salary is paid through the Coats and Foundation. So if those teachers need support, that Coats and Mentor works with those teachers and really only on a subject area that they've chosen ahead of time. That mentor is under contract to only help those five to seven teachers. So if other teachers need support or... with implementing like a new program, the science program, EL strategies, the coach and mentor cannot help them with those specific needs. So I feel like if we don't receive support from a district coach, both Ocean View and Ceres. LEFT HANGING IN THE DUST. IF THEY'RE NOT COACHING TEACHERS, THERE'S NO ADDITIONAL SUPPORT. AND I DON'T FEEL THAT'S VERY EQUITABLE.

059AND EQUITABLE IS NOT JUST GETTING THE SAME THING, BUT GETTING WHAT WE NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL, BOTH TEACHERS AND ULTIMATELY IT TRICKLES DOWN TO STUDENTS. SO AT SERIES, WE'RE HOPING THAT, YOU KNOW, THE COACH One, that a coach will be selected, but a coach will be selected that meets our needs. And we have specific needs also because of the dual immersion program. So we're hoping that someone is selected that not only... one is bilingual but also that is knowledgeable in teaching in a bilingual program and in a dual immersion program because the needs are specific and different than just knowing the language. And similarly, I hope that Ocean View receives a coach that can support them in the needs that they have. So thank you for your time and for your consideration. Good evening. My

060name is Margo Riege. I am a... parent of children who went to Murphy Ranch, Hillview, and Granada in the 70s and the 80s. So I've been around for a while. In addition, I was a sub for the district for 20 years, teaching mostly middle school. Today I'm here as a representative of the American Association of University Women. The organization has been around for 140 years, I think, and its mission is to promote equity and opportunities for women and girls. So the state organization in California has set up a school board project partially to... discourage or to monitor some of the negative things that have been happening with school boards in some parts of the state to limit equity, limit inclusion, limit the full curriculum in the history department. Our goal here is to observe what's

061going on in our school districts and to, if necessary, make suggestions or testify on particular items if the need arises. I don't anticipate that the need's going to arise, but in the meantime, I am letting the AEW membership know the issues that are coming up within the East Whittier School District. And we also have an observer at Whittier Union, and I'm trying to recruit people for Whittier City and some of the other school districts in our immediate area. And as a corollary, I'm also a member of the League of Women Voters, and I will be seeing some of you, I think, in the fall at a school board election. So look forward to being invited to a candidate forum. Thank you very much. Thank you so much. We're going to move on to our next

062item. It is an action item. It is the resubmission of the 2025-2026 First Interim Report. Do we need a motion for this? Yes. Okay. Can I get a motion? I move that we approve the 2025-2026 First Interim Report. Thank you. Can I get a second? Second. It's been moved and seconded. Is there any comments, board? I think Mark did share, Dr. Patterson did share a little bit about why this was coming back. I just want to say that I I went through the entire 130 pages of that interim it was really boring but I gotta tell you I didn't go through it and I didn't see on there one name or any position on there so and then with what has happened about you know, the correspondence that was sent out by the principal series,

063I'm okay with this now. So, I know if things develop, that do develop, we'll deal with that. I just want to let you know. Thank you. Any other comments? And as far as there's nothing, no change from the first, from the December? No, they are the exact same presentation that we had. And just to clarify what that means is every time we present a budget, There are a variety of different assumptions that we put into that budget. We put in cost of living adjustment. We put in anticipated revenue. We talk about potential cuts in 26-27, potential cuts in 27-28. Even though we put those in as assumptions, final action around personnel decisions are made by the Board of Education. But we have made absolutely no change to the first interim since it was presented on

064December 15th. Thank you, Dr. Patterson, for that clarification. Ms. Valenzuela, having no further discussion, Ms. Valenzuela, can I call for the vote, please? Mr. Tiaga? Yes. Mr. Aparicio? Yes. Ms. Chacon-Kennedy? Yes. Ms. Dabbs? Yes. Mr. Behr? Yes. Motion passes. Thank you. Next item is simply an information item. It's the Williams quarterly report on uniform complaints. Dr. Patterson, is there anything you'd like to share with us? This is just an information item and we have no filings. Okay, great. Any questions, board? Next item is the approval of the instructional calendar. Can I get a motion to approve? I move with the recommendation of the 2026-2027 instructional calendar be approved by the Board of Education. Great. Can I get a second? Second. Thank you. Before we have discussion board, I've asked Dr. Patterson to please share a

065little bit. Was this the one we were going to talk about? Okay, the next one. Okay. Any discussion board about the instructional calendar? Any questions that Dr. Patterson could answer or Dr. Gonzalez could answer regarding? Is that first day of school, August 11th? Is that what it shows? I mean, I have to look at that. I didn't have that number. I'm trying to get through this year. Well, that was last year. Sorry. August 11th. Oh, August 11th. Oh, boy. So we're after Labor Day, right? Okay. It's before Labor Day. It's before Labor Day? I mean, not Labor Day. The August is... Yeah, it's before Labor Day. What's the holiday in August? What am I losing in my mind? Labor Day is in September. Labor Day is September. Oh, I'm thinking August. Sorry. August 1st is

066the holiday. It seems that we start earlier and earlier. Earlier and earlier, right? Any further questions, Park? Okay, hearing none, Mrs. Valenzuela, would you please call for the vote? Mr. Tiaga? Yes. Mr. Aparicio? Yes. Ms. Chacon-Kennedy? Yes. Ms. Dabbs? Yes. And Mr. Beyer? Yes. Motion passes. Thank you. This is another action item and this is the one in a little bit that I've asked dr Patterson to speak to so can I get a motion please I'm with the recommendation at the Board of Education approved either option a option B or option C for the board meeting calendar date for the 2026 2027 school year. Thank you. Can I get a second? I'll second It's been moved and seconded. And before we have discussion on this item, I've asked Dr. Patterson to share a little bit,

067board. So if you want to open those three PDFs so we can look at them as Dr. Patterson is explaining them. So when we had this discussion last year, the board did ask for us to bring this back for consideration again because at the end of last year, we did decide as a board to eliminate a few board meetings. We have had conversations around many districts have one board meeting a month with the exception of it being June. Our board at that time was not comfortable with that discussion, so we did eliminate and decided to keep two board meetings in August, two board meetings in July, and two board meetings in June. The options that are in front of you are option A is to keep our board meetings exactly the way that they are

068right now, which is to have those two meetings in August, February, and June. Option two, or option B, I'm sorry, is to remove one of those board meetings. So we would have two meetings in August and two meetings in June, but eliminate the second meeting in February. I did have an opportunity to share with Mrs. Dabbs our anticipated agendas for upcoming two board meetings in February. So we'd have one, you know, three board meetings, the two in February and the one in March. pretty much back to back to back, which makes those meetings very, very short with not a whole lot of items on that. So as we had heard, you know, it is difficult for people and families to get out to see these meetings. So that would be one option. And then option

069C is the option to where the only two or the only month where we would have two meetings is June. So at that time, after your discussion, we would need a board member to make a motion for one of those options to see where we land. Okay. Board, you want to discuss this? I will say that our board meetings have not lasted very long at all. I prefer option C. Okay, that's great. Mr. Tiaga or Mr. Aparicio? Or Mr. Baird? One of the things that I just want to share while you're thinking is that I know that we haven't done this too often, but I know that sometimes we want to. And by going to less public board meetings, we would be able to perhaps piggyback at least once a year to have a board.

070discussion meeting that we've had like in the past maybe there's something important well there's always something important but like a study session right so the way we've done it in the past board is to add it at the beginning of our meeting and now we would have a little bit more breathing room to maybe build in one study session a year around something that's really pivotal really important I don't know if any of you got a chance to hear briefing about the governor's budget but it's not good news so we could add in a study session around budget perhaps just something that I want to share with all of you as we look at discussing which of these three we want to actually approve Mr. Aparicio? I think I'm fine with either of the three.

071I think number two, or B I should say, is I think August, a lot of teachers kind of submit for things in August. And I believe at the beginning of the year, that's when a lot of teachers and staff members probably put things in. So I think it'll be nice to probably have two in August. And I think, you know, I'm fine just trying it out for one year. And like I said, honestly, I'm fine with, you know, any of the three. So I just think maybe, and I think Mr. Patterson probably has. A LITTLE BETTER IDEA ON THAT ON THE HAVING THE TWO IN AUGUST DO WE GET A LOT OF SUBMISSIONS DURING THAT TIME SO WHEN THE BOARD HAD THE DISCUSSION OF WHAT MONTHS TO KEEP THE TWO MEETINGS IN WE DID KIND

072OF PILOT THE IDEA OF THINKING EXACTLY WHAT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT IS SINCE WE DON'T HAVE A MEETING IN JULY AND THE FINAL MEETING IN JUNE IS AROUND MID JUNE UM USUALLY anywhere between like the 9th and the 15th that there was a possibility that all of the POS and different work requisitions would come in but that didn't really play out this year and this year was no different than a typical year so it would be totally fine with district operations to have only one meeting in August but at the end of the day you know it's your your your all of your decisions it doesn't matter to me let's say I'm I'm retired, so I don't have to go to work every day. So it doesn't matter. But I do think C is a

073good option for me. When is the meeting that our new board member starts? In August? December. December? For our new board, I'm sorry, new student board member. Well, we changed that practice as well. So what we have decided to do moving forward, because it was really awkward not introducing the student board member until under the oak, we decided that the last day for the student board member would be the first meeting in June. And then two days later, we would introduce the new board member to be able to allow Oliver to transfer power. in a peaceful way, unlike the lunch program, apparently, at Hillview, to the next student. Mr. Baird, do you have any thoughts on the calendar? I mean, it's going to affect next year, right? Oh, I know, yeah, it would be, because

074it's 2026 this year. and then it's 2027 next year, so it would be the next year. So I mean, I could like, I mean, my vote doesn't fully matter, but I could be like, try to be nicer to the next student board member, be like, option A, like option C, like, hey, you don't have to go to any meetings, I can be like option A, like, hey, you know what, you're gonna go to more meetings, like, so I think it would be more, I think it would be graceful. Tell them what you told me when we met. You were not as ambiguous as you were. You were very certain. It was very option C. Yes, it was very much heavy option C. He just knows that our teachers like to come to these board meetings.

075Yeah, you guys love it. He's trying to help out our teachers. I'm very, very supportive of the teachers. I know you guys love the meetings. Does it have an impact on the number of meetings of the school recognitions? Will they have to double up? We're already doubling up. And those meetings have only been as long as the presentations are. So it would add about 10 minutes to each board meeting if we doubled up. I'm pretty flexible and open. I mean, I just, you know, they each have their benefits. So, I mean, I guess someone make a motion and let's go from there. Well, I just want to add my two cents. I'm kind of leaning towards B, as Mr. Aparicio said. You know, folding, you know, moving to less meetings, but starting with, what would

076it be, one meeting less or two meetings less for B? Well, option B is one. One meeting less. But I'm okay with C as well, so. But Dr. Papsch, did you say that when Ms. Rafferty asked me that question, there wasn't really a lot going on in August this year as opposed to... Well, like you said, we hedged our bet because we weren't sure what that data would bear out. But when we reviewed all of the things that may have been bottlenecked between June and August, that really did not play out. Okay. And then also, if we do go with whatever options, anytime we need a board meeting, we can always have a board meeting. You can always vote and agendize an extra board meeting. Right. So... Can I make the motion? I make the

077motion that we approve Item C. It's been moved that we approve Item C by Mrs. Chacon-Kennedy. Any second for that? I'll second it. Moved and seconded. Board, are you ready to vote on that? Mr. Baird? Voting on Option C. Right? Okay. Mrs. Valenzuela, would you call for the vote, please? Give me one second. I'm just putting in the motion. Oh, okay. No, no, no. No worries. Thank you. So, Option C. which in essence removes two meetings or three meetings from our two meetings? It removes two. It removes two, okay. But with the opportunity or the option to add 10 more meetings and my bid to add a study session at least once a year, I would really like to do that, but we'll see how that goes. So are we ready, Ms. Vance, for that?

078Okay, so we're voting on C. Mr. Tiaga? Yes. Mr. Aparicio? Yes. Mrs. Chacon-Kennedy? Yes. Ms. Jobs? Yes. And Mr. Bayard? Yes. Motion passes. Okay, so we are good to go with that, and thank you so much, Board, for the conversation and the discussion. The next item is an action item, approval of board meetings to be held at school sites. Can I get a motion to approve? I move the recommendation that the Board of Education approve four Board of Education meetings at La Colima, Leffingwell, Orchardale, and Scott Avenue during the 2020 season. 2027 school year. Thank you. Can I get a second? Second. All right, it's been moved and seconded. Board, is there a discussion on this? Anybody want to speak to? May I? Yes, of course. So over the last three years, actually over the

079last two years, we've held board meetings at our schools. This would round out the full rotation of going to all 14 campuses to hold board meetings at the school sites. And then... My recommendation was that at the end of this year or at the end of the following year would be the conversation about is that a process and a practice that we'd like to continue. I just want to say that I have truly enjoyed coming to the school sites to see. It's so good to come back, you know, and I just think it's a beautiful thing to have the local community, the local people from here be able to come here and attend one of our meetings rather than going to the district office. I just think it's a really nice thing to do. And

080like you said, we can see after the full rotation if we want to keep doing this or what, but I just want to say that I think it's worked out really well. And the school's always... put on such great like performances and they just welcome us and it's just i i just really enjoy it okay thank you any more discussion mrs valenzuela would you call for the vote mr tiago yes mr aparicio yes ms charcon kennedy yes mrs dabs yes mr bayard yes motion passes okay The next item is a discussion item, and it is a public hearing. So I'm going to open the public hearing. We're going to wait to see if there's any discussion, and then I will close it. Correct, Mr. Patterson? Okay. So I'm opening up the public hearing, Resolution No.

081102526 for the annual accounting of developers' fees for the 2425 in the following fund, Fund 25 Capital Facilities Account Fund. The meeting is now open. The public hearing is now open at 7.25 p.m. Are there any folks or any of the public that wishes to speak on this item? Can I ask a question on this? Can I have Dr. Patterson just explain what developer fees are? You know, while I would love to be able to do that, Dr. Aceves just texted me and said she was kind of... You know, being from ESS. Okay. Yes, Dr. Thurber. I was really hoping for a question. So anytime there is new development, expanded development, maybe we have a new business who builds something new perhaps, or a homeowner maybe adds an addition to their home or builds a

082new home, or we have new housing developments, we are entitled to collecting. developer fees from that from that whoever it is homeowner business owner to then be for the impact on our schools or potential impact on our schools. So then if we need to perhaps expand a facility or a program of some sort really facilities to accommodate for the additional building or family or development we have the money to do so. That's in very simple terms. Thank you Anybody else who wishes to speak on this matter and as a public item? No So having no further discussion I will close out the Public hearing at 7 27 p.m. The next item is an action item and Can I have somebody to call? Move I'm with a recommendation at the Board of Education adopt resolution number

08310-25 26 annual accounting of developer fees for the 2425 Fiscal year in the following fund fund 25 capital facilities account fund as submitted. Thank you. Can I get a second? Thank you. It's been moved and seconded. Is there any discussion board or anything that you would like to add? Dr. Patterson or I don't think I could doctor is every said I think that was perfect. Do we have any track homes in the area? I'm trying to think about anything potential in the development right now. I'm not currently that I am aware of. However, if we do, we will collect those developer fees. It's a lot from individual homeowners as well who are expanding on their homes that we also receive. So if you look right here, it shows what we've actually collected. And we have

084to share that money with Whittier Union. Aren't they building at the quad? Yes. Eventually. Eventually. And it would as well, I think. I think so, yeah. The townhomes that are being built on Painter, is that with your city school district? I think so. They're on Painter and Mar Vista. I would have to look into that. I can't envision that right now. I think it's Weider City. They're right across from the courthouse. On Painter and Mar Vista. That's Weider City. Okay. If it's on that side of the street, yes. And it's just important to note that these funds go into facilities. Right, right. They do not go anywhere other than facilities. That's it. All you using for. Yes. Okay. All right. Okay. Very important for that determination. All right. Any other discussion board? All right. Hearing

085none. Mrs. Valenzuela, will you call for the vote? Mr. Tiaga? Yes. Mr. Aparicio? Yes. Ms. Chacon-Kennedy? Yes. Mrs. Dabbs? Yes. Mr. Bayard? Yes. Motion passes. Thank you. All right, our next item is also an action item. Can I get a motion to approve? I move the recommendation that the Board of Education approve the comprehensive school safety plans submitted for all elementary and middle schools in the East Winter City School District for the 26-27 school year. Great. Can I get a second? I'll second. Okay, thank you. It's been moved and seconded. Any discussion, board, on... The safety plans or anything you want to share, Dr. Patterson? I just wanted to commend Dr. Aceves because we actually have a fully functioning district safety committee with representatives from every one of our schools to be able to provide

086perspective. This has been about a three-year process that we have undergone with a variety of different consultants. I mean, we received that grant back about two or three years ago to be able to develop and revamp these, and the safety committee has constant conversations. about things that we need to be considering as we move forward. That's great, thank you. Anything else? I just want to say, this was, I'm sorry, but I didn't read everyone word for word because I'd be reading for the next 10 years from this and the next three items. So I kind of just skimmed through them because, I mean, really, that's a lot to read. And I think they're almost all the same. Or basically, you know, that's the point. And that is the intent, that the majority of the district-wide

087practices are the same, so when staff go to different sites. Right, so that's why I feel so bad that every single one, because I'm like, okay, they're the same. But that's a lot of reading. Any other discussion? I'm real disappointed that we don't have all the principals sitting back here waiting eagerly, wanting to hear everything that we have to say, huh? it's okay they're all watching if you look at that one okay right now all of them good well then this took a roll good question for mr oh there's only 18 people watching maybe they locked off I do want to share that as a former school principal I know and I appreciate that Mrs. Kennedy the amount of time and energy that goes into developing the plan although they look very cookie-cutter they're not

088because they have to be very individualized to your school your grounds where you're at you know we've had our trainings and I know this can be triggering so I apologize but you know our active shooter trainings and where are the entrances exits how do people move students into a safe place. So there's a lot of time and energy put into these very lengthy safety plans. So I really want to commend our principals and their teams and their parents who have put this together. It's really, really important. Any other discussion? Okay, hearing none, Mrs. Bonsuela, will you call for the vote? Mr. Tiaga? Yes. Mr. Aparicio? Yes. Mrs. Chacon-Kennedy? Yes. Mrs. Dabbs? Yes. And Mr. Bayard? Yes. Motion passes. All right. Our next item is something very similar, but it is approval of school plans. Can

089I get a motion to approve? I move the recommendation that the Board of Education approve the school plans for student achievement submitted for Ceres, Evergreen, La Colima, Laurel, Leffingwell, Mulberry, Murphy Ranch, Ocean View, Orchardale, and Scott Avenue Elementary Schools, and East Whittier, Granada, and Hillview Middle Schools. Thank you. Can I get a second? I'll second. All right, it's been moved and seconded. Again, these are very important school plans for student achievement. And speaking to Dr. Patterson, the template for these are very similar to the things that he and I and Mr. Chiaga did as principals, but nevertheless, they're very important. So are there any questions, board, about? the school plans? And I just wanted to reaffirm with you that these plans are voted on and approved by every one of the school site councils. So

090it's just not district staff that's looking at these. It's a collaboration with every member of the school site council as well. Their names are listed. They are correct, yes. All right, any discussion? All right, hearing none, Mrs. Valenzuela, would you call for the vote? Mr. Tiaga? Yes. Mr. Aparicio? Yes. Ms. Chacon-Kennedy? Yes. Ms. Dabbs? Yes. Mr. Beard? Yes. Motion passes. All right, thank you. And our last item in this grouping is number 10, correct? Approval of school accountability report cards. And may I get a motion to approve? I move the recommendation that the Board of Education approve the school accountability report cards for the 25-26 school year for the following schools. Ceres, Evergreen, La Colima, Laurel, Leffingwell, Mulberry, Murphy Ranch, Ocean View, Orchardale, and Scott Avenue Elementary Schools, and East Witter, Granada, and Hillview Middle

091Schools. Thank you. Can I get a second? I'll second. All right. It's been moved and seconded. Is there any discussion board? I just wanted to point out that there is legislation currently under consideration for consolidation of all the plans that districts are required to submit. This one is absolutely redundant in many, many ways. So they are, CSBA has advocated for it, AXA has advocated for it, and just finding ways to make sure that we aren't spending so much time creating a 150-page document followed by a 140-page document followed by a 100-page document. was that was that senator archuleta actually was one of the ones we talked about at the assembly yeah any discussion all right hearing none mrs valenzuela would you call for the vote mr tiaga yes mr aparicio yes mrs chuckle and kennedy

092yes mrs dabs yes mr bayard yes motion passes thank you the next item is also an action item can i get a motion to approve I'm with the recommendation of the superintendent, the Board of Education approve the consent agenda items K-3 through K-11. Thank you. Can I get a second? Second. It's been moved and seconded. Dr. Patterson, refresh my memory. Do we... Now we go on to number two to see if... We go on to number two. We don't vote on this. We go on number two. Okay. Board, we're moving on to number two then. The possible removal of items from the consent agenda is... Can I get a motion if anybody or a... request to vote on something separately from the grouping that is there if that's a something that anybody needs no hearing

093none all right okay hearing then would you call for the vote miss about this one mr. Tiago yes mr. aparicio yes mr. con Kennedy this is dabs yes mr. Baird yes motion passes Thank you. It's always a little confusing because we want to make sure for all of you that are here that the board pulls out items to look at them or discuss them separately to take a separate vote on them when it's necessary. So thank you so much for bearing with us. We now move to... Let everyone know that our next Board of Education meeting will be held on February 2nd, 2026 in the board room at, again, on February 2nd. And before we have any discussion, can I get a motion? I so move to adjourn. Can I get a second? Second. All

094right, thank you. Any discussion before we leave? Any comments, board or Mr. Barrett? No, I do. I just wanted to say one thing. I know we just voted on this, but I did want to talk about the the one item on there where the nutrition services is gonna go and do the The farm to table or whatever. I just think that that's so cool and I want to go So interesting. I just can't wait to see what they learn that so that I'm I love that So, you know, I'm glad to see that that's happening. But Anyways, aside from that, I don't know if you all read that for the first time in 25 years, California is not a drought, but we still need to save our water. Very important. Okay, Mr. Barrett. All right.

095I do want to thank everybody for being here. We hope that you will join us regularly for our meetings. And again, our next meeting is February the 2nd, 2026.
