001Good evening. The time is now 7.11 and we will now reconvene into open session. Please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. I will now entertain a motion for Inter-District Transfers 1 through 18. I move to approve Inter-District Transfers 1 through 18. All in favor? Aye. Aye. We will go ahead and move on to our presentation. Santa Lucia. Good evening. Tonight we are presenting our Santa Lucia Superstar Signers. Try to say that six times. And they are led by Mrs. Hall, and they're each going to tell you their name. Fatima. Fernanda. Genesis. Aaliyah. Deliva. Big Knee. Grace. And they're here to perform for you tonight. Wow, thank you. That was such a wonderful performance. Thank you for coming out and spending this time with us. Parents, you should be proud. That was really cute. That was
002a highlight for sure. That's always a highlight in the board meetings. Every time we have students come up, that's the best part. So if anything, everybody should show up at least just for that. Okay, we'll go ahead and we will thank you again for sharing that with us. Let's see, we'll go ahead and do recognition. Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Before we move on to recognition, any other board members would like to say anything? Thank you. So we're, oh, how many students do you have in total within the program? You have 10 in the club. Girls, really quick, which one was the sign for trouble? Wait, do you put your fingers, your thumb goes to the front? Goes like this? I'm just saying I might use that at work. So if I can't really talk
003to someone, I say, hey, you are, that it's easy. They should get to, I'll teach that tomorrow. So here, trouble. Got it. Awesome. It's something, if you guys can continue with that as you get older, I have realized the importance of sign language, even in my own work now. I was actually considering and taking a college course on that because now I see that more prevalent in our times as well. We have kids, we have adults with those type of needs. So it's nice to be able to continue with that. I hope that you continue, even if it's after you leave Santa Lucia and there's so many things on YouTube now that you can continue to watch. But it's an amazing tool, not only to be, you know, a bilingual student, biliterate, but when you
004include another form of language, which would be sign language, it would be beautiful having ASL also. So congratulations. That was awesome. Trouble. Trouble. Did you get that? You're in trouble. No, I just wanted to say congratulations to all of you guys who came up here. Were you guys nervous? Yeah? You guys did good. And I'm assuming you do this with your class as well? So yeah, they're experts. No, well, these programs are, you know, something that we should be very grateful. Thanks to our ELOP funding that we are able to continue this. So hopefully we can continue with this program. So I just want to say thank you guys. Thank you guys for being here. Thank you, Ms. Hall for running the program. And thank you everybody who's involved with the program because without you
005guys, this wouldn't be possible. And thank you guys for being here and for being part of that program. Any other comments? No? Okay. We'll go ahead and we'll move on to staff recognition. Okay. So it's our month for Santa Lucia to acknowledge and recognize. Classified employee and remembering that the Spark Award recognizes those employees who light the way for our students and fuel the fire in their peers, the staff. They're igniting the potential. So this month for Santa Lucia, are they both here this evening? Awesome, thank you. So for our certificated recognition, Catherine Silva, please come on up. Catherine, our dedicated fifth grade teacher who joined the district in 2024, has embraced her role with remarkable enthusiasm and confidence. In a short time, she has made significant strides in various areas, showcasing her exceptional teaching
006abilities. Observing her in the classroom reveals a vibrant environment filled with effective management, active participation, and genuine excitement among her students. As she approaches the completion of her induction this May, she has also earned her B-CLAD credential. Catherine may not know it yet, but... We'll certainly have her a part of the dual language immersion program when it gets to her grade level. We are incredibly fortunate to have her on our team and staff, and congratulations, Catherine, on being a true superstar. And for our classified staff member, would Eduardo Ochoa please come forward? Carefully. I never get tired of saying this around our campus, but I was his teacher in first grade. Everybody else is probably tired of hearing me say it. Eduardo Lalochoa is a remarkable essential skills paraeducator who joined our district in 2022,
007initially serving as a yard duty before transitioning to a five-hour paraeducator role, then a seven hours essential skills para. Over the past couple of years, he has excelled in his position within our TKK combo STC class, demonstrating exceptional care and commitment to the safety of our students. Lalo consistently goes above and beyond, readily offering assistance wherever needed, and his dedication has not gone unnoticed by the students, who admire his willingness to grow and improve. As a full-time student at Hartnell, he balances his studies with his responsibilities, showcasing his strong work ethic, even while managing an ankle injury from soccer last night. Congratulations, Lalo. We are truly fortunate to have you on our team. You are a true superstar. Congratulations to you both. It's really an honor to have you be part of our district and
008our family. Any other board members would like to chime in? Just wanted to echo the congratulations to both of you guys. Thank you guys for all you do for our students. Congratulations to you both. So we're super excited once the DLI comes in on your end. No pressure, but when it comes, I'm just kidding. So we hope to see that. But it's awesome to hear how many of us, again, fell under the branch of other teachers as well. Right. I had mentioned when I first came on board, my kids would have believed me that their coach was my coach as well until he finally had to say it in front of them. It's like, yeah, I was her coach, too. And she's like, oh, my God. At first they're like, yay. It's like, whoa, you're
009old mom. It's like, thanks a lot. You know, but it's amazing to see those students come back to our community and continue to serve our community. So thank you all for being a part of our KCUSD family. So we greatly appreciate that for y'all returning because you can choose anywhere else to be, right? And you choose to come home. So thank you all. Okay, we will now go ahead and move on to public comment. This is a portion for members of the audience to speak on something that is not on tonight's agenda. I do have a couple of cards filled out, but then I'll go ahead and revisit with the audience once these individuals come up. Jackie Zavala. Good evening. I wanted to take a moment to address all of you, our Board of Trustees,
010to shine a light on some positive things in our district. I have had the honor of working in this district for 27 years and have mentored numerous teachers as either student teachers in my classroom or induction candidates working on clearing their teaching credentials. Many of them are currently employed by our district and are colleagues I have worked with for a number of years. Throughout my tenure, mentoring teachers has been one of my greatest passions. Four years ago, you, as a governing board, approved my current position as teacher on special assignment, working with new teachers. And this evening, I would like to use this opportunity to speak about them and attest to the truly incredible and talented educators they are. Lately, there has been much talk about the phrase, one of our own. And our district
011is fortunate to have recently had many one of our own join our staff as new teachers in our schools. They were students in our schools. They were children that we taught. In the last few years, many school districts in our beautiful valley have had a need for new teachers, just as we have. And yet these teachers have chosen to come back to King City to give back and teach the next generation of King City's future. and I must say they do the most incredible job each and every day. I've been witness to this over and over again. My position allows me the opportunity, no, the blessing, to get to work with new teachers in our district every day. I have been privileged to watch their amazing growth as educators and the impact they have on
012their students. They constantly seek ways to improve their teaching and promote student academic growth. They do their best to make students feel seen and cared about. They inspire me every day. I am incredibly proud of them, and I know our students can only benefit from their dedication. They are not the only one of our own in this district. We have talented educators from across the nation and the world who have chosen King City and, like their colleagues, are making an incredible impact on King City's future. I was once just like them, having come here to teach from the Midwest. I had the opportunity to become a part of this community that now considers me one of its own. I hope that these new teachers get to experience this sense of belonging as well. To all
013of my new teachers, and yes, I most affectionately call you my new teachers. First, I thank you for choosing to come back to come or come anew to our district to educate and care for the students and families of this incredible place. I want to say to you that I know and I hear your frustration when at times you were told that you didn't have a voice or that your voice shouldn't be heard at this time. Please know it was always only in an effort to protect the possibility of you reaching permanent status in our district because we saw a spark in you. We saw the light in you. We saw your potential. But I want you to know you do have a voice. You always had a voice and you will always have a
014voice. Please use it for good. I am hopeful that those of us in roles as mentors understand our responsibility and do our best at being your voice. In closing, I want to thank this governing board for allowing me the incredible opportunity to work with and witness these amazing one of our own that ignite the spark every day. Thank you. Thank you. Fabi Almanza. Hello. Good evening, members of the board. My name is Fabian Mansa, and I'm here to speak about serious concerns regarding the implementation, oversight, and management of our ELOP program. I want to begin with what I believe is the most critical issue, which is funding and accountability. According to publicly available data on the CDE website, under allocations, our district has received millions of dollars in ELOP funding, yet a significant portion of
015that money has not been used. I'm sorry to support students. Let me be very clear with the numbers in 2122. The district received over $2 million and only spend about 89,000 leaving over $2 million unused in 2223. The district had over $6.4 million available and spent less than 1 million leaving nearly $6 million to roll over in 2324. The district had over $10.5 million available and still more than $8.5 million. were carried over. In 24-25, out of more than $13 million, approximately $4.5 million were returned to the state. I want to repeat that clearly, $4.5 million. And with, sorry, 4.5, let me rephrase that, were returned while staff and students continue to experience shortages, delays, and lack of support. This information is not speculation. It comes directly from the CDE website. At the same time,
016we are dealing with ordering delays exceeding six weeks, denied or delayed access to essential supplies and equipment, and a lack of staffing despite clearly having funding available. There is a clear disconnect between the resources available and what is actually reaching students. Communication is also a major concern. For example, an email was sent out on February 10th outlining... A list of concerns after numerous follow-ups, emails, and requesting an update or even a response, no communication was received until April 14th. That is over two months without a response. This level of delay is unacceptable and directly impacts the program implementation, staff morale, and student opportunities. There are also serious concerns regarding legal compliances, including the directive to store employee timesheets in a publicly accessible binder. This practice violates Labor Code Section 226, which requires confidentiality of employee
017records. Another concern that must be addressed is also the lack of accountability within the MOTF department. The district has owned vehicles for at least two, more likely three years, that have not been on the road and still remain unavailable to use. These vehicles should be supporting student programs and transportation needs. Yet they are not accessible due to delay and lack of follow through within the department. And this reflects a broader issue of accountability and directly impacts student opportunities. Another concern that must be addressed is the denial of Saturday programming. Yellow Peak guidelines clearly allow programs to be offered before school, after school, and during expanded opportunities. Yet we are still being told we cannot run Saturday classes due to a lack of custodial staff. Even when staff have offered solutions such as cleaning their own
018rooms or leaving them as is, the response has not been collective. Instead, staff are being perceived as money hungry for wanting to provide additional opportunities for students. That characterization is both inaccurate and unacceptable. If millions of dollars are available, then the focus should be on expanding opportunities for students and not limiting them. At the end of the day, this comes down to three things, which would be transparency, accountability, and alignment with state guidelines. We need clear timeline of our orders and approvals, consistent and timely communication, transparency on how funds are being used and proper staffing to support the program needs and adherence to both ELOP requirements and California law. Our students deserve access to the programs and resources that this funding was intended to provide. Returning millions of dollars while limiting opportunities is not just
019inefficient. but it is also a disservice to our students and community. I urge the board to review the data, address these concerns, and take immediate action to ensure that these funds are being used as intended. Thank you for your time. Thank you. Anna Foraker? Sorry if I said it wrong. Hello? My name is Anna Foraker and I am the drama and ELA teacher at CPMS. I wanted to talk to you today about the ELOP program, which by the way, I love. I love the fact that we're bringing kids in after school, that we're making community connections with our family members, that, you know, we're doing all of this. We're keeping the kids busy. The kids are becoming creative. The kids are getting these opportunities that they would never have had. But I about drove myself
020insane this year, putting on the play. And I think a lot of that was due to lack of staff at the district to communicate effectively. We had one person at the beginning of the year, we lost that person and the communication was not there. The transparency was not there. The information was not there. My suggestion would be to at least have two more people at the district office to work just on the ELOP bits. In addition, we need someone at each site because every time I would have a question, no matter how small or how simple, I would have to go to one of the two people who was left and they are very busy human beings and they are juggling lots and lots of plates. So I understand that they couldn't get back to
021me right away, but the frustration on my end that was felt was immense. There was one point in time where I was ready to cancel the show. And that would have been 55 kids that would have been let down that had worked their little tushies off every day for two hours singing and dancing that would have not gotten to do what they really wanted to do, which was perform for their community. So I would like to encourage the board for more staff members. I would like to encourage the ELFP department to have more timely communication. But I love the program. I think the program's fabulous. And I think we're just not using it to its full extent. So I'd like to see the district personnel get the support they need and the teachers get the
022support they need, because right now, none of that's happening. Thank you for your time. Thank you. Sam Smith. Good evening, board and audience. My name is Sam Smith, and I am speaking in both my capacity as KCETA president and as a third year ELOP teacher. I've been a part of this program since the day it was offered to us as teachers. I run the Dungeons and Dragons program club at Shalom Peaks. And through my program, I teach kids essential math, language, and social skills through role playing. It's a program that I never would have dreamed would be possible. And I'm incredibly thankful to the ELOP program for what it's done for me and my students. I mean, I get paid to play Dungeons and Dragons with kids for two hours a day after school. That's
023awesome. That being said. My experience has not been universal, especially with the program's massive increase in scope. The number of teachers participating has more than doubled from the first year to this year. We had like, what, 40 teachers the first year, and now we're over 100, right? It's expanded crazily in scope. This should be cause for celebration among all staff. This allows for a massive amount of students to be served by the program. However, as the participation in the program expanded, The staff did not grow to match as you've heard from others tonight. There have been many issues but ultimately after surveying our unit Our main issue has been communication I want to make it very clear that we do not think the current staff is bad or imply that they're not doing their jobs
024What we do know however is that the scope of the with the scope of the program and the rate at which it has grown it has become a truly impossible task for the two-person staff So what do we do? We've heard stuff about other districts choosing to outsource the program fully to companies like Pro Youth. And while they're a great program, we want to push strongly to continue teacher-led clubs. Parents have said they want them through their surveys. And students will sometimes join a club just because of the teacher running it. 90% of my club members are my sixth graders this year. And seventh and eighth graders are former students. Now, we need to grow. teacher-led clubs rather than pivot away like other districts what we need ultimately is a fully staffed program that can
025run this incredible opportunity to fidelity we need staff to handle ordering which is a full-time job um as well as staff just to do inventory i don't know if any of you guys saw the video of patty with all the boxes if you haven't you should see it it is frightening um Where was I? We need staff members on site to help distribute packages, communicate with district office staff, and help address campus security concerns at our elementary campuses should they arise. And they have arisen. We also need better cooperation between district leadership as this incredible program is sadly but consistently treated as an afterthought by some of those at the top. We as teachers want nothing more than to see these programs succeed. And it is my hope that you as the governing board take
026our words tonight in account when looking at staffing needs for next year. Thank you. Thank you. Is there any other members of the audience wishing to speak on something that is not on tonight's agenda? Having no further public comment, we'll go ahead and close public comment and move on to the superintendent's report. Good evening. It's been several weeks since we met last. So of course there's been a lot that has happened. We had spring break and speaking of ELOP programs over spring break, there were numerous things available for our students. First, he ran a very large program. Pro Youth had a program. And right here in this room, we had 20 students served by the Scholar System Program, which was an amazing four-day event for some of our middle school students that culminated in... The
027students being the facilitators of a leadership event on Thursday afternoon and then Thursday evening for their parents. So it was a very exciting opportunity. Right before spring break, we had our district-wide spring carnival. This one was held over at Santa Lucia. Remember, it's one of our four district events. Each one held at a different campus. Lots of performances, activities, and our international teachers from the Philippines came together with also the teachers from the high school district and other districts in South County, and they performed a cultural dance for the audience. It was really exciting to see, and the students there really enjoyed seeing their teachers perform as well. We had cold pride day right before going into spring break as well. It's celebrating the end of the third quarter. So we're now a few weeks
028into fourth quarter. We started our journey back from spring break with our staff development buyback day for our certificated staff. As a buyback day, that means it is an optional day. It's an additional work day for those that choose to add it to their calendar. And this year we provided multiple choice options for them to choose from based on their needs. ELPAC testing is nearing completion. That's a few weeks underway, but we are nearing completion of that. And then we will roll at the beginning of May, we roll into the mandated state CASP testing for grades third through eighth. TK registration and kindergarten registration is well underway as of this morning, and it probably increased throughout the day. But as of this morning, we have 105 students registered for transitional kindergarten and 207 registered for
029kindergarten. In comparison to this time last year, that's right on par with TK. It's only a difference of five students. We're a little behind in kindergarten. Last year at this time, we had 223. So hopefully... I do know that there have been some dips in birth rates, but hopefully our numbers will continue to increase. We are in the midst of recruitment season planning ahead for next year. So we've been holding multiple interviews for a variety of positions and making offers of employment to our solid candidates receiving acceptance. So with each personnel report, you should see more and more staff selected for the coming year. As we approach the month of May, we're holding many of our regular end-of-the-year meetings and facilitating many meetings. So we have our end-of-the-year professional learning network that the county office
030comes to help each of our sites with. That's the work that's been focused on math. Our standards-based learning group also focused on math. 95% group will be coming for their end-of-the-year support in intervention. We had our second-to-last visit with ATDLA for... DLE for our dual language immersion program today. Kevin will be back one more time next month when he'll meet with the team for collaboration. Our site administrators are meeting with Joni and Betty throughout this week and next week to discuss their budget plans for next year. Our district directors are having weekly meetings with the sites to touch base as well as begin planning for next year. Some upcoming events to put on your radar. Open house for the elementary is this Thursday. The fourth grade jamboree with McCarlem is this Thursday and Friday in
031the morning, I believe. Do we have any fourth grade here that can confirm? I believe it's like from nine to 11. Thursday. Next week on Thursday is our fourth district-wide event, Dia del Nino. It will be hosted by KCAM, but everyone in the district is welcome. And next Friday is our annual Civil War reenactment. So here in the next couple weeks, four big events for you to join us with. And then finally, just the monthly reminder that we're still looking for new members for the Citizen Bond Oversight Committee. So if you know anyone, direct them to the website to join. And that'll be it. Any questions or comments for the superintendent's report? I'm not sure if that has been talked about with the students, but another district has tried to... have parents be more involved
032either with Consuelo or Dr. Rios. You had mentioned what 20 kids that were part of that. Is there a way that we can also to see if they would be willing to if they can come and speak on? their part of it, like what did they learn? What did they like? What would they like to see? I'm just curious to see from a student standpoint, their perspective of that program. Cause kids think completely different compared to parents. And I'm just trying to see if we can squeeze them in, in one of the meetings as well. If the board's okay with it. I'm just. We actually were talking about that when they presented trying to find Dr. Ruby in the audience. We actually talked about that as having the students come present with you as well.
033And I'm just trying to put it sooner than later, just because it's fresh in their mind. So I wouldn't want them to lose that. Or they can at least start making notes so it can come. But it's just, yeah, it's fresh in their mind. So whenever y'all can. Any other questions or comments? No? Okay. Thank you, Jennifer. We'll go ahead and we will move on to the reports from administrators. Is there any questions or comments for any of the reports submitted? I do. For Santa Lucia, you got mine. Ah, I'm just starting. I have a couple. Who won the inflatable race? Oh, Ms. Gomez. And what was she dressed as? Frog? Yeah. So they're probably wanting a rematch, right? So you'll let us know when the rematch will be. Oh, right. All right. Awesome. Thank
034you for that. Also for KCAM, congratulations on your PTO funding. Where are you guys? 16,000. Come on. That's my, that's what pay. When is that for again? This Thursday, this Thursday. At what time again? Just in case I take some of my guys that they haven't eaten yet. Cool. Also for CPMS. I had gone and I could have saved that for board communication. You know what? I'll save your part for board communication. Don't do that. No, skip it. Going back. No, no, no. It's more for board communication. John. Have you, I was looking over your report. So far, to your knowledge, you have not had anything been brought up with Santa Lucia other than the fencing? To your knowledge, no other concerns has been brought up with Santa Lucia? Yeah, just an infrastructure. Have you
035I didn't see anything I saw for K cam things like that But nothing with Santa Lucia that you have working on right now that in the fence Okay. Okay. Thank you I'll pick up where she left off Regarding Santa Lucia I I do see John I do see that you have like some quotes on the whole roofing Would that have to do with part of the roofing structure from the last wing that like is? And what's the anticipation of getting that fixed? Cause it's so it kind of feels like it could collapse or cave into people at any time. And do we currently have classes happening in that classroom or in those classrooms that are directly under that, that, that wing or that roof? including that area that was removed or is that kind of,
036okay. And do you know, or do you have like an anticipated timeframe of when you see that kind of starting? And just for clarification, so the part that was taped off, so it's safe for people to be frequenting that area, that yellow tape that was put on the... Yeah, not the portables, the last wing of the structured buildings on the campus. Okay, thank you. Any other questions or comments from any other parts? Do you want to back? I can pass you the talking step. No, okay, thank you. We will now go ahead and move on to consent agenda. Is there any items that either the board or audience would like to have pulled and discussed separately? I ACTUALLY HAVE A QUESTION ON ITEM 14. WOULD YOU LIKE TO PULL THAT AND DISCUSS THAT SEPARATELY OR?
037IF I CAN ASK IT NOW, IT'S FINE. YEAH. GO AHEAD. DR. RUBI. IT'S JUST A SAFE ADMINISTRATOR. Just a quick question. So on that contract, it's 275 students. So we're paying all that up front, right? Do we have that enrollment? It's having multiple programs going on at the same time? That number was based on last year and the growth in the program that is anticipated. So it's a per pupil rate. And so we're aiming to serve more students this year. So hopefully we get 275, but that's the cap. Okay, so if by any chance we don't get to the 275, we'll still pay for those 275 students? Okay, yeah, that was my only question on that. Thank you. Is there any other items that anyone would like to have discussed separately? Okay, having none, I'll
038bring it back to the board for a motion. Approve the consent agenda as presented. All in favor? Aye. No. Okay, we'll go ahead and move on to action items. Our first action item is approval of change to the 2025-2026 student calendar. Movement of minimum day from Wednesday, June 3rd, 2026 to Wednesday, May 27th, 2026. So we're requesting your approval to change as it states our minimum day that we hold at the end of the year. Historically, we are still meeting our, we're actually over on our mandated minutes, so it doesn't affect our required minutes for the entire year. But we use that date as our staff appreciation celebration at the after dismissal. And the facility that we normally use in June is not available, so we need to move it back by one week to
039May 27th. Any questions or comments? She already checked her availability, but she's making sure. You good? Okay. So having no questions or comments, I'll go ahead and bring it back to the board for further discussion and or a motion. I move to approve action item A, approval of change to 2526 student calendar movement, a minimum day from Wednesday, June 3rd to Wednesday, May 27th. All in favor? Aye. Aye. Okay, moving on to action item B, considered approval of unification MOU between Greenfield Union School District, King City Union School District, and South Monterey County Joint School District. So this item is a part of the draft plan the public hearings were held for a few weeks ago. And as the county committee has that subcommittee that Bean and I serve on as well. has been discussing
040and drafting the plan. One of the items that has come up are the numerous areas that Ed code addresses that obviously then are out of our control. And that then could potentially, if unification occurs, some of those items could potentially lead to one district having a higher cost than the other. for things that we don't have an option about. So for example, if you'll see in the MOU, if there were to be the liability cost that could exist from any claims brought against the current high school district, but a few years down the road, and now the high school district no longer exists, who's responsible for that liability cost? Or post-employment benefits? that originally would have been associated with the high school or as you see on the third one there and that is the
041classified employee compensation because per code classified employees are guaranteed their positions for two years following unification and then at that point if the districts need to make adjustments they can begin to do so so any of those items could come with a unfair burden to one district or the other in the ultimate financial cost so this MOU is addressing that and includes methods in which to continue to distribute that expense equitably between the two districts rather than simply where an employee lands where an employee may have formally been employed any of anything within that category giving providing both formulas at excuse me and steps for that two-year window to continue to address any unforeseen increase in cost to one district or the other. Any questions or comments? On this agreement, do we have to vote
042on it today just because it was just brought up? We didn't get, I haven't had the opportunity to even read through it or go through it in detail. Is this something that we need to vote on by today? So the intent of the County committee is that this goes with their draft plan to the state board that they have to submit by May 4th, May 1st. So each school district is bringing it to their boards at their meetings. Our meeting is the first one tonight. The high school meets tomorrow night and Greenfield is next week. So each school board is having the MOU presented before them. So it's certainly preferred. There's no legal requirement that you do so, but it is preferred. Any other questions or comments? And it was drafted by the initially by
043our attorney and then a little bit of clarifying language back and forth with with all four attorneys. If no other questions or comments, I'll go ahead and bring it back to the board for further discussion and or emotion. Just a quick comment. I know that the the brief time I was able to attend this last meeting, our attorney who was also present, he also. reviewed the MOU and agreed and was good with it with what was presented? Correct. Our attorney drafted the MOU that then went back and forth as they made minor adjustments. Right. That's what I'm saying because we had that meeting and they were talking about other little things. So he's already reviewed it. This is his coming from him saying that we're good to go based on his recommendation. Correct. And on
044the input that was provided. Right. So no later than July 1st, 2030, what does that mean? Is that by when unification will take place or what is that date? Or do we have a date? Because on the effective, it says on the agreement effective and it says no later than July 1st, 2030. So they're basing it on an assumption of how far down the road could unification potentially occur because you can't. you're not going to write an MOU indefinitely. So if we're looking beyond 2030, you're going to have to revisit this. Or how soon? Well, later discussion, but that's why it says no later than. So for peace of mind, not that there's really much peace of mind right now under this discussion. I think this is just a way of covering, and I'll just
045say for ourselves, if we end up getting the heavier cost of those that have the two years that could stay anywhere, that we wouldn't have to absorb that difference in cost and every district would be able to kind of put into that pot. Again, not to really ease your mind because I don't think we should be at ease when it comes down to this conversation, but we do have it under information, which I think we'll be able to kind of go into more. the wider scope of the topic. But that's just my two cents to try to like, let me give an example. Jennifer's gonna give an example. Well, again, on the employees. So let's say there are 10 employees at the, because the employees at the two respective high schools remain. But at the
046district office, you have an entire staff there that still has a right to a job. So let's say, for example, if there were 10 employees and eight chose to stay in King City and only two went to Greenfield, that would then be a burden on us that we have absolutely no control over. So what this is saying is that the cost of all of those employees will be calculated and then distributed based on the funding to what would have been had the high school stayed in operation. If 55% of the students go to Greenfield, then 55% of that cost follows Greenfield and we have the remaining. If it's the flip, then it's the flip. But it's looking at the pieces that we do not have any control over. I make a motion to approve action
047item B. Approval of the MOU. All in favor. All in favor. Aye. Aye. We'll go ahead and move on to action item C, approval of district green card sponsorship for hard to fill district positions. Good evening. Up for your approval is, just as it states, the district to sponsor green cards for some of our staff. Background information is currently we have several talented staff under temporary employer-sponsored work visas, which we paid to have them come to our district. to secure a potential long-term commitment to our students and mitigate the risk of staff turnover in our high vacancy areas such as special ed science language arts and physical education i'm requesting approval to move forward with up to 12 sponsorships um wendy you said up to 12 do we currently have 12 or we're still trying
048to get up the 12. We have more than 12. Oh, okay. So I'm asking for up to 12 right now. We have different expiration dates on our employer-sponsored visas. So I'm looking at some expiration dates and how long they've been with the district and recommendations from their directors, principals, and so forth. Yes. We're looking at up to about $38,000, $39,000 for this space. Yes. Is there any questions or comments from audience? There could potentially be more down the road. Yeah, it's not an all in. If they are in a position that we cannot fill otherwise, absolutely. Currently, we don't have that need on the classified side. One of the things that I have to do is prove that if I post their position, I cannot fill it otherwise. So if we were to take the
049positions of those people and post it, it's very likely that we would get US authorized citizens to work in those positions. So if they were a special ed teacher, absolutely. I know that we have discussed this prior that we were going to look into seeing if there was any viable option to try to work with our DACA recipients because we know that we do have some DACA recipients. Did we ever look get into that point where we were able to look into that? Right so that's what Wendy was just referencing. So DACA is a deferred action and it does not provide citizenship. Also with DACA that document allows them to work in the U.S. But we don't pre-screen anybody. If they come to us with a DACA, we treat them as we do anyone else
050because they're authorized to work in the U.S. The positions that we are looking at, if we didn't fill them with our visa members, we would have vacancies. So we had to pay to fill those positions that we're looking at green cards for right now. Our DACA positions, we did not pay anybody to come fill those positions. As part of the proof to get a green card, you have to post these positions in the San Francisco newspaper, San Jose newspaper, EdJoin, and prove to USCIS that we cannot otherwise fill these positions. So if I go and post for eight special ed teachers, I may get one that's fully credentialed. This year, we did get two and we filled them with US-based citizens, not visa. But the likelihood of us filling all of these positions that we
051currently have visa holders in is very slim to none. And we will have to prove it. And if we can't prove it, the green card will not be approved. And I understand that part. I know that we were just in hopes or thinking of if there was any possibility. So that was just my only question. in fact looked into that through council, requested that information. I understand with our current certificated staff, we're just thinking ahead. It doesn't matter if they're certificated or classified. If I had a DACA holder in a certificated hard to fill position, we would absolutely consider a green card for them. I don't have any of those today. So it's not the people, it just happens to be that they're classified right now. If it was a DACA member in a multiple
052subject position teacher, I wouldn't be able to do it. I can get a multiple subject teacher. Yeah. Well, things with laws now, you have to prove a lot of things that you say you can't, you know, get it. How is it that you can't? And with all these classified positions, even like yard duty or anything like whenever it comes to classified, those seems to be a little bit easier, you know, but. No, I totally understand that part of, I mean, if you can. Yeah. It's a hard position to fill. But that's not a criteria for a green card. No, I understand that. So I was just saying that was the question. Got it. Any other questions or comments from the board or audience? Okay, having none, I'll bring it back to the board for further
053discussion and or a motion. I move to approve action item C, approval of district green card sponsorship for hard to fill district positions. All in favor? Aye. Aye. Aye. Moving on. Thank you, Wendy. Moving on to action item D, approval of ELOP program plan revision. Dr. Ruby. Presented for your approval tonight is a revision of the ELOP program plan. I shared this back in December. It's our updated plan. And within that explanation, I let you know that they would be coming back frequently for revisions. So tonight we have a couple of revisions that have been made and I will kind of highlight those so you don't have to. Go through and search for them the first revision Had to do with the hours of our clubs. So originally we wrote it for clubs ending at
0544 and so the campus security around that was our Raptor system because our offices were open. We do have clubs now that go beyond four. And so we have had to work with MOTF to create some safety guidelines for teachers who are on campus with students after hours. And that includes facilities requests and making sure that people who are on campus are supposed to be on campus, making sure that our staff knows that they can call the police if they do see people who are trespassing and they're not comfortable talking with them and then going over. Right now we have like we've got Little League going on. We've got soccer. We have a lot of people, you know, different sports. And we do have our littlest kids, our t-ball players. They're on at five and
055we do have a club that goes beyond that time. So they are kind of interacting. So we did talk with MOTF. We talked about bathroom usage. They made sure to. Make it clear that a facilities request needs to be held by the people who have them so that they can show that at any given time. And then the facilities requests are in the school office. So if teachers have questions, they know that they can go and find them there. The next change, we had updates. So field trips are listed. The field trips that have been approved thus far for this school year are updated in. in the plan. And then as we add more, they will get added and we will bring it back for a revision. Other changes that were made around field trips,
056just as always, we're always trying to make sure that our program is meeting our students' health and wellness needs. We're making sure that we are following the guidelines for ELOP and making sure that all of our trips are following the guideline, which states that educational they all trips have to be educational in nature and entertainment is unallowable so any any field trip that is strictly for entertainment purposes or that is majority of entertainment purposes are not allowable so we changed those guidelines we held a meeting we went through it with all of the teachers made sure that we shared the guidelines with them so that they were able to see that and then brought clarity around the entertainment component. We made a small change under minimum staff qualifications. We had it in the program plan
057based on our previous CSCA contract. That contract was updated. And so we had to update our... program plan so now the minimum qualification is to receive 75% or better on the paraeducator test. And our final update we we added one more staff member since the program plan was created and so we did add in the full-time account clerk so we now have our ELOP supervisor, program secretary, and our full-time account clerk. And those are the changes. Any questions or comments? So a quick question in regards to what you were saying right now, since there are different programs that are going on throughout the day or throughout the evening, is there any way of possibly getting some type of supervision for like the restroom area more than anything? Because we do have students who probably use
058the restroom. And then even though we have the facility requests. I mean, we don't know who's using those restrooms and just to put a peace in mind for those students who do go to the restroom during those late hours. We have talked about adding site coordinators next year so that there would be someone on campus, on each campus from three to six that could add that, that could be an extra level of supervision. Yeah, I think that would be something that would be very beneficial. I mean, I think it's just in general, just because our campuses are open when time changes. And then we have our pro-youth program that's also running late. And again, having those kids just going back and forth to the restroom. You just never know. Yeah. Is there any other questions
059or comments from the audience or board? We know we don't have anything right now other than what we've talked about and what we've shared with you about calling the police. The facilities requests are in the office. So you do know who is supposed to be on campus. But other than that, no, we do not. And again, if there's any concerns, you can call the police and call dispatch. they've come out before. And that's something that we can always, if you feel like there's somebody that's not supposed to be on campus. Any other questions or comments? We'll go ahead and bring it back to the board for further discussion and or a motion. Move to approve action item D, approve of ELP program plan revision. I second. All in favor? Aye. Aye. Aye. Moving on to
060approval of CS action item E, approval of CSPA board policy updates. Second reading. Okay, so last month when we brought these to you for your first reading, I pointed out that there would be a few areas where you would need to give us directions versus typically you're able to either accept them as presented or deny them. But there are three. The first one is bylaw 9322. I'll give you a moment to scroll to that one. 9322 is agenda meeting and materials. And within this, you have the option of choosing, and it's around public comment. And so what we currently do is what's listed as option two. You have public comment at the beginning of the meeting on any items that aren't on the agenda. And then just like right now, as we're going through the
061action items, you then open it up for any public comments specific to that item. So that is option two, which is what we currently do. And we can continue to have that practice. You also have option one, which is where you only have the public comment one time for the evening with a suggested comment period that does not last longer than 20 minutes so rather than us assuming whether you wanted to continue or make a change that's why we're presenting it to you as the time to review this bylaw so you can continue with current practice or you can change to option one on the agenda yes okay so that's the first one any questions before i explain the next one okay So when we get ready for the vote on 9322, if you don't
062want to make any changes, then we're just continuing on as the way we have it. 9323, meeting conduct. So in this, in your meeting procedures, we need to add the language that's specific to, and it's that second paragraph, with the board president or a board member chairing the meeting at the time, if the board president is absent, shall conduct board meetings in accordance with blank. to enable the board to efficiently consider issues and carry out the will of the majority. The recommendation is to insert Robert's Rules of Order in that spot. Again, this is what we typically, this is what we currently do. Then in the next paragraph, you'll notice that there's a blank on. The board believes that late night meetings can deter public participation, affect the board's decision-making ability, and be a burden
063to staff. Regular board meetings shall be adjourned by blank p.m., so the recommendation is 10 p.m., unless extended to a specific time determined by the majority of the board. I think for some of us, we could think back a decade or so ago when we had meetings till 1 a.m. So something like this is, yep, you were there too. So we're several of us in this room. So the recommendation there is 10 p.m. And then if you scroll further down under public participation, under number three in public participation, that's where you see where you insert the maximum number of minutes for individual speakers addressing the board. So our practice has been three minutes, but there is a blank there if you're wanting to change that, or we can continue with three minutes. so that's what's
064in nine three two three any questions about that one and since i believe all the recommendations are what we currently have as well correct the next one i have to go over right the final one is board bylaw 92 50. i get them all tongue twisted reimbursement and other benefits So you may have seen the headlines and several school districts are now addressing this bylaw specifically. So in our regular CSBA updates, that's why this one was included as well. And that is because in the recent election, the, excuse me, the recent action with the legislators, they increased the compensation for board members. And it is based on the average daily attendance of a district. Now in your bylaws, you traditionally have chosen not to take a monthly compensation. So there's nothing requiring that you change
065that, but because it was significantly changed at the state level, it is in this new round of updates. And so that's why we now need direction on how you want to move forward. For a district our size, the monthly compensation for a board member would be $1,200. So it's a considerable difference. My understanding is a lot of this change was due to the difficulty of finding citizens to serve on boards. So the hope was that by increasing the incentive that some boards choose to take, you might be able to find more people to run. Again, in our district, for as long as I can remember or have been paying attention, you have not taken compensation. So we're not asking you to do that, but it is something we need to bring before you for your
066discussion and your decision. And then on when you scroll down to the options, this is also the language around health insurance benefits. And you currently are option one and following the benefits of our classified management and confidential staff. So those are the three areas for you to discuss and give us direction on what you would like us to insert within your bylaws. Okay. It's open for discussion, board and audience. So I'm assuming we'll, on my part, I think continue just how we are with our meeting. I mean, I agree with the whole 10 p.m. as well as being, because after that, it's a long night. So yes, and with the whole reimbursement and all that, continue as we've been ever since we've been on the board, at least on my part. Yes, yes, that's a
067big highlight. We turn it around and give it back to scholarships, which is huge. Yes, and a long history. I completely agree with the whole not getting paid to do the role. And if that's what's an incentive for somebody to come up here, then anyway, that's just my two cents. Well, I do agree with both of you. No, just a quick question going back to 9322. So we would all agree in leaving it as is in regards to our public comment, having the public comment. It seems like we're actually allowing more opportunity the way we're doing it because then we clump it all together and it's like a 20-minute time frame versus us being able to allow audience to speak on topic. Yeah, I don't like it. I don't like it. And that's okay. You
068don't have to. That's why we can remain as is if we're all good with that. I was going to say I'm good with keeping it the way it is now. There's two more board members. Is there any comments or questions from the audience? If not, I'll go ahead and bring it back to the board for further discussion. And what would be, keep it as is? Well, how do you want us to? Actually, I was just going to say, when you make your motion, if it's keeping everything as is, but also directing or voting to insert the 10 p.m. time limit, we would appreciate that. Thank you. I'll not entertain a motion. Did you hear that? I'm not the one that's gonna make the motion. I move to approve action item E, approve of CSBA board
069policy update second reading, keeping everything as is with insertion of meeting ending at 10 p.m. All in favor? Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. I heard it. All right, moving on to the reason why everyone's here tonight. No, I'm kidding. Our information items. we'll start with unification okay so as we alluded to earlier when we were on the action item at the recent county committee meeting regarding um unification the proposal is that's the is what you would label it proposal was on the table regarding the timeline so you've heard me say for quite some time now that when this is heard by the state board in july if It's approved to move forward at that time. There is not sufficient time to then get it on the November ballot. And so that's why you've heard us talking
070about the ballot would be March 28 was the proposal with implementation, earliest implementation being July 1st, 2029. Because between election, should the voters approve between election. and full opening as a new unified district there are several things that must occur including all of your negotiations with your new bargaining units at the last meeting the proposal was put on the table to hold on to the later timeline for opening. However, the discussion was moving it up earlier one year, but I've also got clarification that just like we can ask for a waiver for the year that they were discussing, we could also ask for a waiver for 29 as we've always been discussing. But what they are proposing moving up much earlier than we had been talked about before is the actual election, the item on
071the ballot itself. So the discussion had been around that November was too quick because the deadline for having that done is either the end of July or the very beginning. I believe it's August 7th is the, you must have everything yet. And so it was, there's not enough time between the state board and when everything would need to be drafted, presented, et cetera. But. if you go up to the state board and are ready, should you be given a go ahead to then submit for the ballot, it could be on the November election. So what the ask was, was would we agree to, and this is not an action item, this is a discussion, where are we with this proposal? Would we support putting the item before the voters in November? And then the waiver
072would be delaying that implementation until, again, their initial proposal was 28. I asked 29 because that's what we've been talking about all the time. But by putting it before the voters sooner so that we know, do the voters want us to proceed with this or not? It would give the districts answers to their questions for their planning for going forward. It would give employees answers, but it wouldn't move up the actual unification opening date any sooner if they stuck to 29. So that was the reason for the ask is to have the answer of the voters sooner to have it by the end of this calendar year. So that's the discussion before you tonight. If it's not on the November ballot and we continue with the March, then it's the question of what are you
073doing between this summer and March of 28 in regards to unification. You're just kind of sitting and waiting, but that's on the table for you to discuss. Let's discuss. It sounds good as to getting the feel for where the voters are is the motivation why that is being brought up or pushed. The humble reality is there really hasn't been discussion in these meetings. There hasn't been collaboration. I humbly say that being the person that was... showing up for our district. The reality is there was very minimal discussion amongst the actual districts. It was all showing up and being told what we were going to, you know, do. These are the steps, step one, two, three, being handed to us by MCOE. The whole, I was the one that was trying to push, you know, let's
074move, let's push it back, right? And that's where they made a big thing about having to approve with this waiver. yeah, we can do it, but it almost seemed like, but we still gotta get the waiver and if it's gonna go through now, it's like, oh, we just got the waiver, got a waiver. So to me, it's all based on what the agenda is, not our agenda necessarily, but it's, you know. as a board, our discussion and our direction was like, let's see how far we can push that out. None of that was once discussed, at least while I was in those meetings. Again, just showed up and every meeting, it was just us being handed something more pushed toward unification. And again, just to put it out there, it's not that unification wouldn't be
075an ideal. later down the line because you want to have that structured foundation for our students. But the reality is us unifying right now, it's not going to build that structure. We really need to kind of mend with our high school, bring our high school together, and we need to start that partnership regardless of the unification itself because we really need to be able to bridge that between the elementary and the high school. And those are the discussions that, you know, as a board member, I would want to, you know, dive into. pre-discussion, not post, let's worry about it after the fact. A lot of those other things that are also pressing are things that everybody's content with discussing post. And what freaks me out is if we recall when the high school was built
076in Greenville, it's the same thing. They jumped, they did it, they did the building, they ran into, oops, we came across, we don't have funding for. our employees. And then that whole post discussion is kind of what got us where we are now with the whole, this that's, I just wanted to go ahead and make sure that I at least share that being the person that was selected to be in those meetings. It wasn't, it sounds good. Like we actually met and came together and, and. This is what we came up with. And then another thing is if we go back to the state meeting that happened back in November, is it November? Right. It wasn't a directive as to go and get these districts to unify. It was a go, talk to your districts,
077figure something out, and then come back to us and report in July. And before you know it, now it's the directive of, hey, we're unifying and here's the plan. And so to me, I'm just... where's our voice in this? I mean, I know I've voiced it and I know that we can sit here and voice this, but when it comes down to the table and the people that are actually being listened to and the ones that are actually setting up the plan, it's like, where's our voice? Because we haven't had one, even with the picture of us supposedly coming up to the table and working together. No, we don't. We don't have a voice. We did not. That did not happen. They didn't ask us where we were at. It was none of that. So
078I just want to make sure that the community, our district know that this is not something that we actually came and said, this seems like something that we can take back to our district and our community and in hopes that we can make it work. So again, not opposing what an ideal unification that is based on all the right reasons. and taken with the time that it would need to be built with success. I'm not opposing that, but just currently where we are, I just want to go ahead and paint that picture very clear that this was not a collaborative. thing that really happened. It's being painted as that. The whole, let's see where the voters, it's funny because they were arguing that they wanted a presidential election to get voter turnout. And now that's
079why we weren't going to do, you know, an odd year because we wanted to get voter turnout. And now we're just disregarding voter turnout. Let's just see where the voters are. I mean, this, it. Obviously, I'm not shy to say I don't feel like we're currently ready for this because it's going to impact our elementary if worst case scenario happens and we're not out of that worst case scenario. But it could also impact Greenville, right? Because Greenville really wants it. So pushing an election could also impact them and be against them. So, you know, I don't really feel like it's really being... done with the best intentions of all districts, of all three districts. That's just my two cents. I'm going to go ahead and give it up. Unfortunately for that, though, we were thrown
080in at the end of all of this, and they've made that quite known, at least in the times I've heard, at least this one time I was able to be a part of that meeting. We were thrown in at the last minute. We mentioned it also at the... public hearing that we did have as well in regards to, we were kind of pushed into this, shoved into this, but they are ready. So one of the things I had mentioned, I have mentioned before is they already have this, they have their plan. Both those high school districts seem to be in agreement already on how this would work and whatever they got to do to make it happen. So it's a gift. going to happen in their eyes. So what I wanted to be assured of
081is that we are taking care of things in our area that we can. As an example, that MOU, when we're talking about liability, we're talking about classified and where are these, you know, where the money is going to be coming from? How is it going to be split? All these things are now, I believe, the things we need to, that we now can put our two cents in. It's like, okay, this is going to happen. We have no choice. You all want to do this. Then we got to make it where our staff can also see how that's going to work for them. I do not agree though with a November. I think it's too soon. We're just presenting it in July to the state or the board, the committee is presenting it in July
082for me. November is too soon. I would still say stick with your 2028 with it. Because my concern is if we do it for this year in November, they can submit a waiver, right? But what guarantees us that they will? Are we going to create another MOU that states we will be doing this? Like we will come into agreement saying our waiver will be submitted so you all don't have to worry about it because we are going to do it? Or are we just going to be in that waiting game of, I wonder what they're going to say now. It's like, oh, you know what? We decided not to do a waiver. Like as a committee, as the all three unified and that's my only thing too. It's just, so does that mean that there'll
083be willing then to do another MOU to guarantee that that will happen, that we will have that waiver being put in there. If not, it's just like, no, it's just word of mouth. Then that's all it is. It's just word of mouth. If we do it for November and just say, we'll submit it. I don't know if that will truly be done. They're just saying it right now. Don't worry about it. For me, it kind of is like, don't worry about it. We got you. We'll submit a waiver. I don't know that. I really don't know if you would or not, unless you give me something in writing saying that you actually will, that you will submit a waiver. And we all are going to sign on that saying. You put your word on that,
084saying that you'll submit it. How do we feel in regards to that? If it is done for November, do we have that assurance? Do we have an assurance of a waiver? I don't think so right now. Because if we've been the oddball up to this point, I mean, how is it that we can guarantee that we'll have that waiver and giving our staff enough time? It's going to happen. They do want it. They're making the plans for it. We can't take that away. But bringing it up that quick, that's the only way I see it, that it could possibly happen, is if our attorney comes up and says, all right, let's create an MOU and say, we'll have a waiver. Right. Well, and I can, obviously I'm going to be relaying to him our conversation
085tonight. I agree with what you guys are saying. I think that the way things have been played out by MCOE, we've always gone the short end of the stick. So it's like trusting them because if they do this election and they get their turnout and they're going to want to pressure us to do it right then and there. So I think putting it on the November ballot, it's too soon. And then trusting, just how Terry was saying, trusting and going off of the word, it's not going to work. So I don't see why should we be moving so quickly and when we can do the things right from the get-go instead of trying to fix pieces down the road. So I think that's where I stand on that. I pretty much agree with everyone else.
086It's being kind of rushed. And I know, Like I teach in Greenfield, so I know I've heard things in the Greenfield side. For me, it would be a lot better if it takes a few more years. And kind of what we said in the, I forgot what meeting it was, but when it was the high school and us, what was that? I forgot when that was. But when, was it October? When Vina mentioned like, okay, let's start working together. And then we were kind of shut down of like, no, we can't do it because of this. That's something that I feel like we do need to work on with the high school. If we really do want to unify, okay, start working together right now to make it a lot easier. to unify later on
087rather than just rushing everything and then figure it out later. Like, oh, we don't have to worry about those details right now. That'll be figured out later. Like they will work on it when they go into negotiations or whatever it is. So that's kind of my two cents on that. I think it's better to just wait and work on. BUILDING THAT COMMUNICATION WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL RATHER THAN RUSHING EVERYTHING. KIND OF LIKE WHAT THEY'VE BEEN DOING IS HERE'S WHAT WE'RE DOING, NOT EVEN ASKING WHAT WE THINK. IT'S JUST MORE HEADING OUT INFORMATION. AND THE COMMUNITY CAME BACK AND SAYING NO, WE DON'T WANT TO UNIFY. WOULD WE BE DONE? So this current petition would be done. We have every reason to believe that at some point the Greenfield community will bring a new petition forward.
088But until that happens, but we fully expect, yeah, and we've said that from the beginning. But correct, it would put the current everything. Boom, the book is closed. You have to start again. Is this a new point for the community? Well, that's what I'm saying, though. If it is done, then what will we have in regards to like in writing saying we will have a waiver and all this and not for them not to just throw it off the thing that that's my intake on in regards to November it might be too it's too soon for me but if we do it on November what's going to guarantee us that the waiver will be signed by the districts will there be an MOU and that way we know we are safeguarded by that or are
089we just going to wing it? You're right. This could already be smashing this first one. Maybe there isn't anymore of the public probably or the community members might not want this anymore. They want to leave everything. It says you're completely right. Right. But but will we still get that MOU just in case they do just in case they vote yes. What is it that you think that you need to accomplish before the unification happens? Because we had talked about in prior conversations about having all their loans and all that paid out in 2029. Yes. They want to do in between. What is it that you think you still need to accomplish during that time? And how does it hurt you to not know what your community wants? Good old way of doing things in King
090City. Well, we are in a public meeting and we do have to hold our composure, but there's more than just looking at. district offices. When we're talking about what is at stake, it's not just the adults that work for the districts, even though, trust me, my heart goes out to every single one of those employees for all three districts, because it's not an easy place to be in when you don't know if your job's in limbo. So not to disregard that as an adult need, that's not a care of mine. It is. But when we look at the educational structure of why schools exist, it's supposed to be to provide quality education to the students. I know I'm not quite done. And so when we're talking about our concerns, Cinda, I hear you. I hear
091those easy things that are, let's get these out of the way. But the reality is if things fall apart. It's gonna be our students that suffer. When cuts are made, when programs go away, let us not forget all the cuts that we went through and who was it to, yeah, the people that worked for the district, absolutely. They were bare minimum and they were overworked and underpaid, totally. But who else suffered? Where are our scorers? See, it's not just about failing our students in that timeframe, it's ongoing. We have yet to recover all that educational loss. It wasn't just pandemic that caused educational loss. A lot of our moves, when we don't do things thoroughly, also causes that educational loss. And we can always... sit here and agree to disagree or have a debate on
092what is the pressing things but the reality is when we talk about unification there's more to just the dispersement of the jobs there's what can happen if we don't do this the right way? And who is it going to impact the longest? Because although I can lose my job, I can go and apply and get a job elsewhere. It might not be the best. It might not be the thing I want to do. But what happens to the students that we fail? They become another stat in another area? Go ahead and, okay, we'll go ahead and open it up for public. Buenas noches. Good evening. um Ni de un lado ni del otro estoy al apoyo de mi hija, porque mi hija va a ser alguien en esta vida y yo estoy hablando. Ustedes no
093se pueden meter en el distrito de High School porque se deben de enfocar del Kinder, TK, Kinder, primero la escuela pequeña y tienen mucho trabajo con los Shalom Peak y les felicito a otra Rubí que hizo con los niños ahora. She's here not to focus on the high school. She says that we are not ready to go and work at Farmer High School yet. She says that your focus should be... And she's not here to talk about anybody else but her daughter. Her daughter goes to school here, and she wants her daughter to be someone in this world, and she's going to make it. But she says that your job is to focus from TK to eighth grade. And she says that there's been a lot of improvements. She wants to thank Dr. Ruby for
094what she's been doing with the kids at Shillam Peaks. And then I stopped. And to get into this high school is very heavy, really. Super heavy if you as a mother, taking a child here and there, to the other school, imagine, this is just a meeting for this school, imagine for the other school, in their agenda, there will be a lot of divorce, really. Because a man like that, you can't, really, think. in sus hijos, piensen, no nomás porque, oh vamos, se mira bonito, nos vamos a meter en eso, no, la verdad, yo como mamá y como persona que tengo mis niñas en la escuela, no está bien, hay opciones, hay otras cosas, y se enfoque ustedes, es la escuela pequeña, y perdieron mucho con la pandemia, y no se sabe si va a venir
095otra cosa, están preparados. Let me summarize. She says that she sees you guys are tired, you guys are stressed, you're just conceiting your faces. She says that she doesn't recommend we go to the high school. There's a lot of work to be done in the middle school. She says that there's still a lot of work that hasn't been done in the middle school. She says that if we continue... with this that we can't handle. She said that right now it's just elementary and there's a meeting and we're already here till nine o'clock. You can't imagine if we're meeting with high school parents as well. And she says that you guys will all be divorced because you guys will all be living here. There'll be lots of divorces. And she's worried. She said that if there's
096right now, like you guys were saying, kids are still catching up due to the pandemic. And we don't know if something else might be coming up. Are we prepared if there's another thing that happens like the pandemic? not just you guys as her as a parent as well is she prepared at her house if that were to be happening again that we have to be locked up for two years because unfortunately there's not many parents here, but for us to get work harder so we can have more parents here so that they know what's going on. And thank you. Gracias. Is there any other audience members wishing to make any comments or feedback? They didn't discuss that piece. I don't think I heard it at all, to tell you the truth, even because the meeting
097you and I were at. My assumption is yes, because that's what it would have been all along, is both the unification as well as the board members. If the election is in November and you're delaying opening, you still need the new board members in place to begin all the negotiations. So my assumption is yes, but I will confirm that in our next meeting. Because if not, you're going to have to have an election for the board members separate from. No, so the new board members are elected for the new unified district. Then you have in your current, three current districts that would still need to operate until the new district opens. If you cannot find five board members, because my thing was that means we need. Well, per district, or excuse me, 15. We'd need
09815 in King City, current districts and new district. The current districts could operate with three until the new district opens. So yes, so they're not in limbo because you're still operating, your current districts still have to continue to operate until you cease to exist. But the new board has to begin operating to make plans for the new district. Correct, because you have to negotiate contracts along with everything else that goes with opening a district. So it's simply the timing of my belief is, yes, they still remain on the same ballot, even if it's an earlier ballot, that I can confirm that. There's, right, there's no doubt that if it's the timeline that was previously being discussed, which was March of 28, that yes, it's all on one ballot. Correct. somebody else come in here within
099two months, bring them up to speed on the whole unification process so that they can continue to guide the board and the community in the right direction. So, I mean, a lot of moving parts, but why delay it? And yes, I get it. We want to take care of our kids and our elementary school, but where are they going to next? We have to be ahead of them. Any other comment from the audience or board? Feedback of anything? So again, this was an information item to see what your thoughts were on an earlier ballot item. What I'm hearing is that you want to know what can be done to confirm, to guarantee that if it's on a ballot as early as November, a waiver will be sought, not just told that it will be done,
100but you want, what's the guarantee that if you support an earlier ballot. a waiver will be sought on our behalf to recognize the later implementation timeline. Is that a correct summary? Correct. If it passes, what's the guarantee that there'll be a waiver sought to delay the implementation? Sorry. Well, definitely the clarification in regards to... They're voting for the new board. That was my interpretation as well. I think it's all the same one, even with the delay. But because we didn't ask specifically, as has been pointed out, we need to be very clear in our questions and our answers. And the next meeting is this Thursday. There are not any additional public hearings. It was very unfortunate at our last public hearing that the only comments were from... the superintendent. So we don't know, we did
101not have any comments in our community. Greenfield, there were at least a dozen, maybe more comments from their community and staff regarding this. So there's not another public hearing, but Tuesday. April 28th at 9 a.m. at MCOE is the county committee, the full committee's meeting. And that's the meeting where they will vote on the plan that's being sent to the state board. Now, the other piece is this item does not have to, we don't have to sit here tonight and say, yes, we'll support it in order for it to go to the state board. That still goes to the state board. This is like a parallel conversation going along with, because the state board isn't saying, put it on the November election. So this discussion is not holding up what needs to happen with the
102state board. The MOU, that would be a concern. But this item of the timing, again, Vita and I have a meeting on Thursday. This I'm sure we're going to be asked what was the discussion around. But just to be certain that I'm clear, you're not really comfortable with November 28? All five of you are not necessarily opposed to it, but you're certainly not comfortable with it without some guarantees. If you're willing to support November 28, not without a guarantee regarding pursuing a waiver. Does that correctly reflect where you are? Sorry, thank you. November 26, thank you. Not unanimous in being opposed to November of 26, but do want to guarantee. unanimously we want to guarantee regarding a waiver thank you okay back to you jennifer superintendent search okay so for our information item on superintendent
103search again this is not an action item this is information but you will be giving us some direction and so this is the opportunity for you to have your discussion in public regarding which way you want to go regarding your superintendent search. So when it comes to the hiring of a superintendent, that is the responsibility of the board. And that ultimate decision is with the five of you as board members. That is part of essentially what you sign on for when you agree to be a board member is the hiring of a superintendent. So when it comes to the search, you have options as a board. You can hire a search firm. You can conduct a search with your district staff. You can have external postings where you cast the net wide. You can have
104internal postings where you just consider a promotion from within. For example, I was a promotion from within, as was my predecessor, Rory. So the first thing tonight that I'm asking you to give us direction on is the type of search that you would like to proceed with at this point. internal, external district. So I guess I'll start it off because of everything before us, but even if unification wasn't as pressing as it is, I think that always looking internally to see what qualifying applicants we have is ideal. And when I think of that, The reality of what we would get, you know, say we didn't just look internal is we would, you know, and I've shared this, we would get first time people ready to make that move in their career. We would get people
105needing to escape their old district for whatever the reason and or people that are ready to just retire and do the bare minimum, you know. So looking at it in that way, I feel that we have a lot. of potential internally considering going outside of our district. Another thing to consider is being the short term that we have with this unification was supposed to be projected out to three years. Who knows if that's even the timeframe at this point, but it's a shorter. timeframe than what you would normally want to go and offer a superintendent. So with that consideration of who would want to come in and, you know, that timeframe and then take on unification, that's something of. not necessarily a pro, but more of a con when we're going out to look for
106an ideal candidate. But another thing that's a little more on the frightful side for me is having to teach that person about our community and our students versus having somebody who's already. a part of this district and that is already familiarized with our families, our students, the needs and those types of things. So I'm a fan of looking internally, but of course I'm open to whatever direction we do decide to go on today. But I just wanted to. throw in my two cents and say that I think that we do have qualifying individuals internally that, I mean, if we're going to open it up outside, might as well also consider the folk that we have right in front of us. I know that given the time that we currently do have as a district and
107the cost of even looking out might be outrageous. for hiring a friend so i was also in favor of an internal search um just how we're saying we have local people who have worked with us for some time now who know our district who know our students who knows what direction we're trying to go with our academic programs and given the time and what we're currently looking at i feel that an internal search will is our best option at this point. I agree with internal. I mean, obviously we would do more to get like input, you know, right. Right. I was just, I was pausing to see, I wasn't sure if there were any, if I saw Wendy leaning in there. Yeah. So I did want to mention something like I was thinking about last
108month. being that I worked in the district for six years, if you count student teaching, that's seven. I did think about, well, why don't we search outside of the district? Like thinking about that way, but with the situation of... We might unify and we might not even get any candidates because they know about the unification and how they can potentially lose their job. We might not get anyone to even apply or to even want to. And I know that's sometimes kind of hard to understand even as a teacher to want to just always promote someone because the way I'm thinking about it is. Sometimes as teachers, and I'm saying this because there are a lot of teachers here, we think about, well, what if they promote someone that we don't like or that we disagree
109with because of the way that they have handled situations with me or things like that. I do understand that point because, like I said, I've taught here and I'm teaching currently right now in Greenfield. But I then think about the other part of there's unification. It costs a lot of money to go outside, to look outside of the district. And I would rather for now do internal rather than go outside due to finances and also the unification situation that we're not for sure. when it will happen, if it will happen, and whether people will actually apply. Internal? Is that what I heard you say? Okay. Okay. So I'm going to come back to, I know that we've had some, in previous meetings, there was conversation around community input. So I'm going to come back to
110my questions around that. But I want to jump to just so that. We all understand what that process looks like, whether it was an external or an internal. So with the internal search, a posting is still put out for staff internally so that they can choose to apply if they want to. We would have an opening date of that posting. We'd have a closing date of that posting. And then just like any other process, you would review the applications, whoever chooses to apply. You would select candidates to interview if there are applications that you want to extend an interview to. And you would have your rounds of interviews. If you selected a candidate, then you would enter into the contract negotiations phase. So that's kind of the whole scope from beginning to end. It's still
111very similar whether you're using a firm or doing an internal search as you just preferred. So coming back to there in previous meetings, there was discussion around community input. Obviously, again, superintendent, ultimately, it's your decision. But the discussion around how you could gather community input, and there are ways that you can do that. And one way that a lot of districts will do is they will link a survey. on their website and anyone who chooses to can go into that survey and it asks questions such as what are what are the priorities for you as a community member or as a parent or as a staff member because you can gather what type of category that the respondent falls into and what are areas of priorities for them what are things that matter perhaps what
112are characteristics of that you would look for in a superintendent so you can gather that information in that format that is one one common way that i've seen that done but i wanted to see if you had any direction that you wanted to give on community input i think that right there is an important um I think that if we can get something started on our website, gathering community input as well, that would be ideally, I think that's something that we've been repeating over and over. Can you do like a, I don't know if a parent square would be the ideal, but something sending it out to also like parents for, you know, I know community is an umbrella, but also specifically, and then also staff as well. Right. Definitely staff as well. which i
113do have a question i think it's very important to have a community input especially for this would the questions be the same for staff and it's a good question the ones i've seen they are because of the types of questions but um we'll take a closer look obviously i can you'll see the survey as well yeah because i do think it might be different for stuff rather And they also, the ones I've seen typically have open-ended areas as well. So it's not just the select these or rank these, but then open-ended places where if something didn't quite apply to what you were looking for and wanting to share, you still have the opportunity to share. Okay, so I'm hearing internal. And yes, we're going to, I'm assuming you're going to open up to them. I
114want to see if we've got the whole picture. That way they know what they want to ask questions or comment on. So I'm hearing that your preference is for an internal search. You want to gather input from all the different groups that might have input to give. And then I gave you an overview of what that process would typically look like. Anything else before you open up to questions you want me to address? When are we planning to push it out? Tomorrow. Okay. And for how long? I say typically 10 days is a typical internal posting for something. We're talking 10 days would be what? Cinco de Mayo? Cinco de Mayo. Okay. Is there anyone in the audience wishing to ask questions, comment, give any feedback? We'll go with Lily and then Sam. Great idea.
115great idea thank you um first of all i agree with the reasoning behind uh could be not that is going to be the person to shepherd our communication so the wider the net we cast the better candidate and not closing it to internal yeah not closing two internal candidates but opening to extra um secondly um in terms of the surveys that we talked about with those uh especially the staff surveys would be possible with making sure that everybody correct yes i'm assuming that um if it when it when you see it if you have questions i'm assuming i'm going to hear from from all of you but again they'll be open-ended spots so even if the categories where it's asking what if these things are a priority what are these characteristics they're still open in
116places for you to provide your feedback from the samples i've seen and we love to model off the samples Yes, thank you. Thank you for always reminding us with that. It's important. you may consider to start with an interim superintendent especially and i can we can have our disagreements or whatever but if you wind up with a november election and the community votes no on beautification Then you may want to keep the person that you hired as an interim So that really makes it easier for you to open it up and then really do a thorough search now you're looking for the longevity of This district and the community votes Yes, they want unification. You've already set up the process that follows It allows you more time down the road, but it also fills the
117need, the short term need that you have because it is such a quick turnaround between the leaving of Jennifer and myself and the new administration. Make sense? So your recommendation would be to open internal, but open it as interim? As interim. Okay. Do you consider when you're wanting to survey our families? here trying to reach out to my families is also having some informational sessions on what it is you're asking and what that looks like to pick a superintendent and what our superintendent does and providing those informational sessions in the morning afternoon so we're reaching that wide berth of our community and our families um i totally agree with the paper surveys because when i did a survey recently 22 did it on parent square 78 tournament on paper and while i have 811 photos
118on my campus that's 100 stories i got back 78 i may not have come back do our liaisons have a one more month of cafecitos some do i have one the following week okay and then uh the loan has one i think the following month and so does delray okay okay pardon me my conferences are open house well correct conference right um Okay. Yes. The wheels are turning here. I'm thinking Dia del Nino. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm like Dia del Nino. I think Dia del Nino, one of the things that I've always brought up is that we're not using that time wisely to give out information because we have a... big turnout, but we have no information to give them, like no presentation for them. They pretty much get in, they go to their activities
119and they leave. So we can utilize that perhaps 10, 15 minutes before we actually start the event, open it up, have this session, like this conversation with them, give them this information, ask for that feedback. I mean, we have over a thousand people at those events. So if we can make that happen, instead of just opening the doors, everybody goes their way, have them all in one spot, try to come up with a PA system that's gonna be able to get that sound out. But I think that that right there would actually be the perfect opportunity. The only comment I have to that though is... If you let parents know ahead of time, hey, the first 15 minutes, we're going to have like a small conversation with parents prior to letting the people go, right?
120Sometimes when you say that, because I say it for people that I know. a lot of them will wait and be like okay they said it's gonna be 50 20 minutes we're gonna wait out here until they like officially open for the other niño and then we'll go unless we just do it yeah exactly yeah that's gonna be our starter but not to put it out there like we're gonna have a short like no it's just as they come in surprised this is how it's starting sometimes you have to do that She's gone to all the events, but for you to do the survey, you have to give it to her.
And go ahead no and i think that one of the reasons why we're saying these events is because it's hard to get parents to show up to different meetings and it's and it's unfortunate i've been to different um meetings and there's four or five parents and as much as we try to be like come on like we're gonna have this we're gonna have that we don't have that great turnout and so i know that that's why i think our focus on these events were We have the turnout, something
122that we don't see at any other site. So yeah, having like an informational booth, trying to give them a little heads up of what's going on, trying to go through every little avenue that we can. So I did not expect to speak tonight, but I did have a jot down a few notes. I think it I'm going to follow up with what Cinda said. I think it is very wise of you to consider an interim. I think that a two month span to find the leader of our district is too short of a timeline. Usually superintendent searches last six to eight months or more and and to find somebody who's going to take us into this. volatile chapter, what could be a volatile chapter in our school district, we need strong leadership and to to
123to. search internally just because the cost might be prohibitive or we think we have really good people internally. And we do. I'm not saying we don't. But I think that it's imperative that we take our time. We make a really good, solid decision. Two months is not long to vet a new superintendent, to interview, to check their references, to fully vet them, where if we could get an interim for even a year, year or even six months, we could do a real, we could do our due diligence to make sure that our new leader for our, um, our school district is one that we want for the long-term to bring us into this new chapter. Or if the new chapter doesn't happen to continue our future, I, as a site administrator, I am very, very
124vested in who my new supervisor is going to be. i want to to end my career in the next few years under the leadership of a of a strong superintendent who will guide our district in the right direction and so i am going to urge you to please um consider an interim and to um and to really look at what is in the best interest for our district rather than to do something quickly thank you Are you going to have resource tables at this event like you had? Okay. Yes, and that had a lot of people. So at the Santa Lucia event, the arts and crafts and activities were in the cafeteria. And then right outside in front of rooms five through eight, when you had to funnel through to get to the blacktop for
125all the other things, you walked right past all multiple tables. So it's going to funnel people through. So I have a question, just real quick. Okay, yeah, sorry. something to coordinate that and let them know, okay, can we have a chance to know what else or what information? And I can agree on that and that works, but something moving forward that I would like to see in those events is having some type of information being given out because those are the only events that we can actually... give out information. For example, if we were to use them for unification, we probably had a bigger turnout because we do have a lot of parents who show up to those events. We don't have them to the other meetings. And we've seen them with the scholar system.
126We've seen them with Consuelo. It's parents who we reach out to get them. So I understand that part and we can do it that way. But moving forward, I would want those events to also have some type of hey this is going on with our district this is where we're going this is what we need because we are losing that opportunity with of such a big crowd here's a question i have just because i have um i've seen it happen even with conferences that i have gone to or trainings is that um if you if you give as an example for this one if you give the parents the opportunity for the survey there great there's some parents who might say i'll just take it home and i'll fly it home I mean, obviously there's
127no guarantee that they're actually going to bring it back. They just got a piece of paper for someone and it's just like, all right, I'll put it here on the side. I'll get to it when I get to it. So my question is in these trainings I've gone to, even for us adults, they sometimes do not like a bingo card, but I think y'all have done it where you like stamp. So, oh, you went to this booth in your training. You got a stamp there, blah, blah, blah. So I'm just wondering, I'm not sure if it's too fast, Lily. Sorry, Patty. but something to actually motivate them to do it there. You know what I'm saying? Like if you do have these 15, 20 booths, do they all have this car? Like you go to
128these booths, you're going to be getting these stamps and maybe you'll go into a raffle. Not saying you have to have a raffle. It's just a suggestion. You know, it's like, but if you finish this at this time, you know, or turn it in to one of the, you know, district employees or staff members, then, you know, like, again, you could be entered into this. for that particular again we do need to reiterate please take your time this is what it's for you know and you know if you have any questions let us know but i think sometimes you do kind of have to give parents an incentive to try to do something So that was just an idea was bringing out there because we even do it for our training. It's like if I'm
129going to get into a raffle so I can get a Yeti, I'll go to every single booth, you know, that have been give me all my stamps. You do I'm saying so it's just trying to think outside of the box. I'm not sure if it's too late, but it's so they can do it right there and then versus Yeah, I'll take it home. I'll bring it back. And it's already around the corner. I mean, it's just getting everybody to apply for everything now. Maybe, to be honest, for next year or for the next event that we have. So for this information item of the superintendent search, I'm hearing that we want multiple forms of outreach with a survey to try and gather as many responses as we can get for you as you go down
130this path. Is there, oh, sorry. So for next Thursday. Who's going to be there to assist? I'm available if you guys need. Dr. Ruby or Patty, it starts at 530? 430. 430 to 730. Take shifts. IS THERE ANY OTHER FEEDBACK? YES. And the responses for a teacher would be very different than the responses for a very different job. Right, which I still suggest or recommend whoever's still having cafecitos to take that opportunity to be able to speak on that. So we still have a couple of sites that have the cafecitos because they do need to understand the role, right? Anyway, we could do our best that we can on whoever's helping. over at Dia del Nino, but we still have to take opportunity of these other smaller events that are happening in between. But again,
131it's just, this also doesn't solely have to be on the district itself. It's the school administration as well. If they're having any events here and there is just to bring that up. Like this is, this is happening soon. So, you know, this is what we're looking into or that the district is looking into, but taking advantage of those meetings that they have with the parents. Is it possible to maybe even make a video where you give information what a superintendent does and then you can post it on the website and they can look at it? There would be a video in English and Spanish. I mean, I had to do some during COVID, so I wouldn't mind. I had to do videos for COVID during that time for parents in presentation. so they are going
132people are going to understand differently um because of their own background on people yes all our people all our parents all our community members any other comments or input or feedback for these people no okay okay so the posting's going up tomorrow internal see what applic if we get applicants Once it closes, in the meantime, we're gathering information on the priorities and characteristics that we're looking for in our superintendent. And then once the posting closes, you'll review applications and begin that process. And we've been given lots to think about throughout that. Okay, thank you. All right, I'm going to go ahead and open it up to y'all. communication from the board, anything that you'd like to share with our audience and our viewers from home or, oh, wait, rewind. Let's go bring it back to
133the audience. Go ahead. That is for the position of superintendent. And then the board still has the discretion to choose, even through that process, you could still choose to offer an interim position. So you have that choice is not off the table by simply doing a search. Thank you for clarification. All right. Now the floor is open to these people here. So quick and easy. I don't, I forgot what I did. I, the musical, I was able to attend the musical. So high school musical junior. It was awesome. It was a great experience. I think we did site visits. Yes. So I was able to do site visits. Sorry. I'm all over the place already, but yeah. I'll make mine short and sweet. I promise. I was able to attend the cafecito for a bit
134just to see parent engagement. Unfortunately, while I was there, there was only two. And there was four holding, was it the Hope? Was it holding on to Hope? I believe it was this one. Anyways, two. And of course they normally started at 8.30 because that's when they drop off the kids. And I understand that decision in regards to that time. It made sense. It made sense to me, but there's only two. So again, it's just something that's still CPMS is one of, if not the school that we tend to have more issues on with our students to where we would like more of that parent engagement. And it's just, again, I know y'all are thinking about it. It's just, it was. disappointing to see it's like okay they dropped off their kids at 8 30
135and only two stayed what else what else can we do how else can we put this out there so i get the frustration i see what you all do at sandy you know did a great job in setting everything up and all that um But it's just a lot we do have to look into for CPMS. CPMS needs a lot of work when it comes to parent engagement. Because the times I have been able to go to KCAM or to Del Rey, I have seen more parents that show up to the smaller sites, even in the early mornings when they're there. So even Del Rey, like I said, they had sopes and all that stuff going on the time I had the chance to go there. what else do we need to do for CPMS
136parents? Which is kind of still awkward because all these kids, these smaller kids end up going there. So if they're engaged here, why are they not engaged when their kids are already going to middle school? I'm still trying to figure that part out. But yeah, that was the only one I was able to attend, but it was just, again, I was just disappointed when I saw two there that were present. We are doing some really good school. They're good. I don't have to be apart anymore or the kids don't want to be apart. And so parents think, well, I'm not going to go. We've been doing a lot of work with our community. Just out of curiosity. Before I lose my train of thought again, I know I had promised to keep it short. Is
137we do, I mean, obviously I have those sports meetings that we have with parents. I'm just not sure if that is a time has anyone during that time like, hey, just also a reminder, we are having a parent cafecito this day. Because obviously that always has a great turnout because parents have to be present with whatever the coaches have to say or expectations of the players. But that's, again, another opportunity that you have to engage with parents. And I'm not sure if that has been brought forth during that time when they do have all these meetings when it involves to a sports or even in their banquets. because you'll have them show up. I just want to say that I got to be a part of or witness the scholar program during the spring break.
138And I've also gotten to see some of the presenters that have come for our parents. And so I'm just going to put it out there. It is a big difference from the first time that they came around and everybody was like, oh, should we do it? Is it going to have buy-in to where it really is now? there's buy-in and that was one of the main reasons why I pushed for such programs as the scholars and also the FLI with Consuelo is the need that our parents and our community members as a whole would have and also benefit from, which you get to see the... diversity in the different types of parents and the background that they come and bring to and so um i just wanted to go ahead and you know share that
139that is a thriving program it is has buy-in by both students and families and staff i i hope so um thank you for continuing to bring that forth and i look forward to the continuing growth uh within that program uh with our students families and community for all so um she's sharing that she also joined uh the opening doors or in the portas um and she just wanted to go ahead and share that she um invited and took along a couple of other parents, I believe she said three. And so now that there was a total of 10, and so that we'll be seeing the growth of that program, which she reminded me, I also got to see some of that in action and some of the topics that are discussed amongst parents and the
140tools that they take away and take home. It was a really neat experience and just to see the buy-in and the parents. I went ahead and then translated to her back in Spanish what I told you guys. Thank you. Yeah. So thank you for all the input too though, because me personally, it helps me considering that I've... granted that it was a whole different board back then, but it was hard, right? Susan, to be able to prove our point when, you know, when we went and we got exposed to what we saw to try to come back and bring it to the district and then sell it, you know, it was, it was a bit of a challenge, but I'm glad that we were able to, to follow through most importantly, follow through and then
141not be turned off by the first. we didn't get the you know the numbers we wanted you know because it's it's a give and take so it's also based on the efforts that we put into gathering our our parents so thank you for the the input it's a huge reinforcer on my part for me thank you um any other no okay so thank you again for that input um we're gonna go ahead and uh move to advanced planning um we have our regular board meeting on May 19th, but I believe that, oh no, yeah, we have a regular board meeting on May 19th. Our staff appreciation, as mentioned earlier, has been moved to May 27th. We have a board study session on June 9th. Our CPMS promotion is June 10th. and our regular board meeting
142for June would be the 16th. At this time, I would like to go ahead and thank everyone for joining us tonight and for all the input that was provided, the patience, and just for staying out this late. The board will be going back into closed session. With that said, thank you again. And yes. Yes. Yes. So with that said, everyone have a good night and safe travels.
