I haven't been together in so long. I'm going to go to the superintendent. We'll get going. Thank you so much. And the high school string quartet was supposed to be here tonight. Oh, they are here. Beautiful. So our student show is this evening. It's a beautiful treat. Some music from our high school string quartet. So I will turn it over to them. Absolutely. Our board meeting. It's called music. Thank you so much for coming. Thank you so much. Beautiful. I know, Mr. Tito. I know, you're going to be in a very serene mood. Alright, so we're going to start our budget prep for transportation and technology. I have Mr. Harvey here with me, Mr. Whiting, and we're going to use two areas. Before we start, though, I just want to recap where we were in

December. We were together on December 9th. We spoke about what we call the preliminary budget. Here's a summary of a bunch of different areas and you see on the left is a description of different object areas of our budget. So compensation, equipment, services, materials and supplies, our debt service principal and interest, along with employee benefits. What we talked about at the last meeting was the fact that the first step in getting ready for next year is we take our current staff and we move them along on the salary schedule if they're able to move along to the different steps and if there's already a contract in place with a percent increase we know what next year's rates are going to be so we move everybody along and on to next year's schedule so the change

there existing staff without thinking about retirements or without thinking about any changing program is about two percent now we're going to start as we talk about transportation and technology we're going to look in those areas about the equipment needs, any materials and supplies. So those numbers where you see as a 0%, where we were last month, that's what's going to start to change now. We're going to start to include whatever their needs are. Debt service, we have a placeholder, and I went into some detail last time, I'm not going to go through it again, about a placeholder for the work that we're going to be doing starting this summer, which is next fiscal year, and the borrowing that we'll do in order to pay for all of the expenditures. So we're just starting to get

all of those drawings into the state and hopefully we're on target to do some of that work. We're focusing on playgrounds and some other smaller building items for the summer of 2026. And I just pretty much stated what you just heard me and that's what this slide is about. So let's talk about transportation. So due to the school bus driver shortage we've had over the past several years, the district transportation department has Consolidates ground and it's resulted in cost savings. We had to do it because there is such a shortage of routes to be bus drivers that we did some of this consolidation, but we realized that we could actually function in this consolidated fashion. So you'll see the proposed budget that's in ages by 10 is actually about 2% lower than the current year

because of some operational savings and efficiencies. What does that include for next year? It's 43 bus driver slots, which are 33 routes that we're going to plan for next year and five spares. We're still looking to hire. We still have vacancies, so we do not have 43 bus drivers on our roster at this point, but there is funding for next year for 43. In terms of our contract budget, our contract transportation budget, that's function A5540. It's 30% lower than that. Again, some nice savings for our budget because we are projecting a reduction to do these for next year. And we've also brought back some of the work that we had at the contractors. Again, we do route optimization. We're using our in-house bus drivers to do some of the work that we had contracted out

to what we call contract transportation. And these are some of the numbers you see the four functions that we have in our transportation we have 5510 which is our district transportation The next one is our transportation garage. We have our in-house mechanics Contract transportation that's where you see the big decrease for next year based on the change in needs and bringing some of the work back in-house and both seats if you take a look at Decrease in district transportation about 90,000 dollars. The increase of both these transportation increase. And the transportation garage kind of balance. Other app. Then the savings that you see here in contract transportation. We're going to use as an opportunity. As an opportunity to increase now that ships technology of about 440,000 dollars. So that we can upgrade. The high school

TV and media studio. We've been talking about this for years, doing that upgrade over to high school TV studio. Knowing now that we have an opportunity to save some money on contract transportation, it seems like a good time to do that upgrade over in the high school, have minimal impact on next year's budget. So A1680 is our central data processing. All of our infrastructure. are located in those codes are switches, servers, things of that sort, while A2630 is computer assisted instruction, and those have to do with the instructional software and student devices. So you see those increases there. And let me talk a little bit about what those two functions are going to include. Like I mentioned, we'd like to propose to create a TV studio during our school preservation plan when we, in 2009,

the community approved the bottom issue is to support a whole bunch of capital throughout the district that is when we created this high school tv studio so we're going back probably about 15 years in terms of when that studio was created and you know it comes to end of life it has a time now to upgrade all of that and i know our students really make good use out of that tv studio so i think that it would be definitely great value to upgrade that in terms of 26 30 the funding includes Some new and replaced with new trial software. We have software that we have to fund year after year. Also our new Chromebooks for our entering students. We give them new Chromebooks. I think it's at the, I know it's in sixth grade,

ninth grade, and then we're doing that third grade too. So to give them these new, they use it for a couple of years, and then we have to retire that. So then we want to have some new desktop computer upgrades, smart boards upgrades, and what we're told for BOCES, I'll tell you the next slide of why we're projecting a bit of a 5% increase in this area in particular is because we are still dealing with the effects of the tariffs, the huge demand for electronic parts based on the evolving AI technology and how it's just really driving prices up. So we really need to factor that in in terms of price increases. And we also want to get our orders in early. so that we can deal with some supply chain delays from the current

complications with international trade. So we also have to think about what's happening in the economy, and especially with technology, what's happening in the global economy as we prepare our budgets for next year. Just a quick review of our budget calendar for this year. We are right now in the beginning stages of budget development. This is our second presentation in this cycle. As I mentioned last month, we were at the beginning talking about the beginning stages of our rollover. And now we're meeting with the different departments, different schools, and we're starting to present to the board and the community throughout the next few months. April 14th is our budget adoption, when the board will actually adopt the budget. and we say every year that what we present during these board meetings is a proposal a proposal

for the board to consider and then manifest into a final budget draft that the board then adopts april 14th our budget hearing is always the week before the vote and the budget voted trustee election this year is made any questions and comments from the board i just want to thank you you're really breaking down for us it doesn't happen in the vacuum and i know it's a step by step for me i truly appreciate i have a question for you mr harvey what happens to get chromebooks where's the graveyard what happened the process for equipment that we're retiring whether it be chromebooks that's our computers or electronic surf uh is a process known as e-waste where we contact a company that uh specializes in social electronics and then we process it through them first we

go through a series of cleansing products of the data and equipment I don't know if I could tell you exactly. Five years ago I couldn't give you a definitive price. Five years ago they were probably closer to the mid to high 300s and now they're over 500. And are they made quality wise or are they made to break down? Chromebooks have a projected life in the school system of three five years. I have a question. No, it's okay. Mr. DeVito. Thank you again for the presentation. Thank you for answering the questions as well about the Chromebooks. Mr. DeVito, you mentioned that because of the contractual interstations, we're able to use all that money for the TV media upgrades. Well, you know what I mentioned it was just neutralize any impact that that increase would have.

I was only wondering if we're sure that it would cover the whole upgrade that is. Well, that quote. You see here about I think it's close to about $400,000 upgrade and that is something we got from Mr. Harvey. You know, we have been talking about it for a couple of years and I know he proposed doing it. And this is where some of the process that we have internally where we have these meetings. And I said to Mr. Harvey, as much as I know we'd like to do this, I don't think this year is the right year for it. There's some other costs. So, Julio, that's some. the vetting that we do when we have these internal meetings but I said to him this year that I think this year the timing is right and

I knew that there might be an opportunity to fund it in a way self-funded without having minimal impact on next year's budget but You're pretty comfortable with that cost right in terms of the estimate. Upgraded. You know, I think it's wonderful because the TV media. They do so much so much. In the last few years, they really are remarkable. So, again. Thanks to you, Mr. DeVito, you are always finding ways where you can use. The district budget in the best ways possible to help all of our students and all of our programs. And I know you work together Mr. Harvey on that. One more question. You did mention that you anticipate delays. So is there a delay here? Well, I know. So the reason why I said that is just to kind of put it

out there that we are cognizant of what's happening in the global economy. So if the budget passes, you know, immediately July 1 when that money is available, we start putting out our purchase orders. Right to start the whole order process. We don't wait and where possible Sometimes we're able to do different things like submit a letter of intent Even before July 1 to get the ball rolling so we know what we can do on our end in terms of purchasing and what's allowable to Get our place in line right so that we don't have to wait so long But it may be some way that we don't know but I wanted to mention it just So that everybody's aware that we know we don't have to bring the vacuum that we have our budget cycle

and it's mandated by the budget vote and when things are available in terms of an ordinary perspective in terms of the new fiscal year, but that we're aware of what's happening beyond us that we do our best to to deal with those realities. So, we're aware of the. and how it's impacting us in education and one thing that we that we just made aware from our distributors there's a major meeting with all the technology directors in the region is that with the demand of ai there are a couple dozen companies worldwide that are spending 50 to 100 billion dollars a year to create these ai data banks because of that it's putting a very large strain on production of memory chips and processors So if you were to go out to try, if you need

to buy a device, a phone, a laptop, a Chromebook, it's suggested that you go out and buy that now. because there's going to be a huge shortage on these processor chips because the companies that produce these memory chips and processors are shifting their factories from low-end device products for the chips that are going to the provost, let's say, and they are shifting their manufacturing to high-end AI data. So we are going to see a huge decrease in supply, a huge increase in demand, and there will be a big increase in turnover time of processing for the purchase of this equipment. Three years ago we could have our Pro books here from July 1 in about four weeks. Last year we had tariffs in about eight weeks and now this year they're saying it's going to

be a minimum of 12 weeks from when we start the process. And so that's what should be a huge impact on how we purchase our electronics moving forward. So what you may see from us maybe in the next two months. When we have a better sense of what our forecast is going to be here in, is we're going to look for opportunities if we see a few codes where we may be forecasting an operating surplus, just to go to the board and ask for a budget transfer so that we could actually order some of the computers to be ready for September, like Chromebooks from this year's fund. So that was a bit of a setting the stage for, let's say, if we can order some. so that we know that we have enough for September

to hedge against the potential delay that we'd actually put the budget transfer before the board comes to say. I'll remind you about this conversation that we're having this evening that we're forecasting maybe one or two or three codes enough that we can transfer it into the code 2630 so that we can purchase Chromebooks. No one has been in the big delay just so that we have what we need. Yeah, I just, I think it's all of our school computers. From what you just said, it sounds like if you're just right now, it's a win-win situation. We're working very hard. We have a multi-institutional plan on implementing AI. So it's not going to damage our program. So we're working internally to have a plan to use AI in our curriculum for students. models so they talked

a lot about production did they talk about price increase or what they're anticipating yes um Chromebooks, I mean individual components will go up, the components within the end products, the components will go up by 100% in cost. But they're one component of a very complex device. Chromebooks will be projected to go up about 6-8% in the near future, but that's only for the next couple of months. And PCs about 10%. They are projecting that data from this will increase dramatically over the next year. That's what we have access to now. is this pertain to ask about apple yeah and they mentioned that apple has a very strong operating fund balance and that they usually can do vendors other than soviet so we have a plan you know we're aware of all this and we have

a couple of strategies to make sure that we have what we need and that we don't minimize the impact of delays and price increases well thank you i'm not worried because i draw that We're working. They're doing construction during the class Olympics this year, so there will be no pool events. This year we want to livestream the entire day of the class Olympics to the Long Beach Morning Wave so that friends and family can enjoy it from home. Moving away from Class Olympics, we have our second annual blood drive coming up. So we're going to have that February 6th, the first week of February. Once again, it won't be open to the public for security reasons. So students only can donate at the blood drive. And third, we began discussing February 10th's PSI Love You

Day. A lot more discussed about it in the next board meeting. This is the most exciting time for us during the year. It's my last Class Olympics. Since we're approving the district-wide safety plan tonight, we thought it was a good idea to do this first read. The other two were the third reading, that revised policy discussed in past meetings. um i've asked the board to consider item six the adoption of the district-wide safety plan and that's the motion second any discussion mr pinto yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes I just wanted to take a moment to thank Mr. Whiteley for coming.
