All right, good evening everybody. Welcome to our February 25th National Board of Education meeting. Could I have a roll call, please? Ms. Canaro. Here. Ms. Greene. Here. Ms. Groszak. Here. And Ms. Hess. Here. Can we stand for the Pledge of Allegiance? Patience to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you everybody for coming. I love seeing so many faces here. We've got a lot of staff members, students, family, community, board of education, everyone for being here. We got a chance to celebrate a little bit about Lander Elementary School tonight, and we have a new video that we put together for everyone to watch. We're going to watch that now. We had cut out two
themes that we tried to incorporate in our video. One being the district theme, Start With Yes, and then two, our building theme this year, Show Up Every Day, and Let Your Love Go. So we're going to watch this video and kind of see what that means to us. ...who truly represents what it means to be a Lander record. I'm Melinda, and I have the pleasure of working with Simon for all of his years at Lander, starting in kindergarten. So it is my pleasure to let you know what a wonderful person he is. Simon is a fifth grade student who has a steady, quiet presence that makes a difference every day. He may not seek attention, but his calm confidence and steady determination truly stand out in our classroom. Simon approaches his learning with focus and perseverance, thoughtfully completing his work, and taking pride in doing his best. When challenges arise, he meets them with quiet resilience, reminding us that strength doesn't have to be loud to make an impact. Simon doesn't just work hard. He actively looks for ways
to learn and grow more. Simon proudly took part in the second annual Model United Nations Junior Conference at Mayfield Middle School, where he strengthened his communication and collaboration skills while engaging in thoughtful discussions with his peers. In addition, Simon has competed in the Greater Cleveland Council of Teacher of Mathematics Problem Solving Tournament for the past two years. He has dedicated time after school, and even on Saturday mornings, to sharpening his mathematical thinking. His willingness to invest extra time and effort reflects a strong work ethic and deep commitment to excellence. Beyond his academic efforts, Simon is a respectful and dependable member of the school. He listens carefully, battles direction, and consistently demonstrates responsibility. He shows his kindness in meaningful, everyday ways, like helping his classmates and modeling respect and care. Simon's calm, thoughtful nature makes him
a dependable friend and classmate. Simon's quiet transformation, academic drive, and thoughtful character make him a truly exceptional student. We are incredibly proud of the example he sets, and the positive impact he has had on the Lander School community. We congratulate Simon Coombe as the Mayfield Board of Education Student of the Month. We'll have Simon and Alistair and Alaina come on up, please. How do you want to do this? That's fine. I'm going to call each student to get their certificate. And then we're going to do this kind of one by one. We're going to start with you. Are you? Yes. Okay, so let's do this. And then we'll take a picture with the school board. And then lunch up with her. That's a good smile. Your boss takes a lot of pictures. You are glad.
All right, can we just start over here? Do you want to get a picture with them? Family? Family. All right. Let me know. Great, thank you. They'll take a look at their screen for us. You want to go next? Come on over. Okay. Are you going to start? We're going to read one more. All right. . All right, and the school board? You're the first higher. That's right. And the district. Yes. And the district. Yes. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mickey is one of those rare and remarkable professionals. From the moment students, families, and staff walk through the door, she sets the tone
for the building warm, welcoming, organized, and positive. Mickey's hard work is evident in the countless details she manages each day. Whether coordinating daily attendance practices, supporting teachers, assisting families, or ensuring that our office runs smoothly, she does it all with grace and efficiency. She anticipates needs before they arise and handles challenges with calm professionalism. What truly sets Mickey apart, however, is her caring heart. She knows our students by name. She comforts them when they are nervous, celebrates them when they succeed, and treats every family with kindness and respect. She is often the first smile a child sees in the morning and the reassuring presence they rely on throughout the day. Her positivity is contagious. Even on the busiest days, she brings energy, encouragement, and a spirit of teamwork. She reminds us that Lander Elementary School
is not just a building, it's a community built on relationships, compassion, and dedication. Thank you, Mickey, for everything you do. We congratulate Mickey DiGiorno for her dedication, commitment, and accomplishment. I just want to say. Every time I've worked at Lander, I've been reminded of the work that she's done. I've been reminded of the work that she's done. I've been reminded of the work that she's done. I've been reminded of the work that she's done. This is a new school and I've worked at a lot of them. I say this is the best school I've ever worked at, but honestly, this is home to me, and I do love my Lander family. Thank you. OK Thank you. All right, now I'd like to welcome our second grade team. Thanks a lot. Help us assert. See you
next time. Tonight, we have the privilege of recognizing someone who has given 34 years to education. But more than that, she has given something even more lasting. Missy has given her voice. For 34 years, her voice has driven students on their very first day of school steady, reassured, and calm. Missy's voice has explained lessons, guided discussions, and turned confusion into understanding. Her voice has spoken to families with professionalism and clarity. And perhaps most importantly, her voice has spoken up thoughtfully and respectfully for what is best for all of our landowners. Throughout her profession, Missy has always been a steady presence. Calm, measured, and well-spoken. Students learned from her. Colleagues trusted her. Parents respected her. 34 years is not just a number. I'm not supposed to buy this, right? It represents thousands of mornings, countless lessons,
evolving curriculum, changing initiatives, and generations of students who were fortunate enough to walk into her classroom. Missy may be retired from the classroom, but the impact of her voice will continue. She has set a standard in all of us. And while she would say, she would be the first one to say, that she was just teaching second grade, we know better. She was building readers, she was building thinkers, and she was building futures. And to our dear friend, thank you for the grace you brought to every room. I adore you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. And the day you brought to every decision. And the quiet strength you brought to this profession. They said teaching is better when you have great teacher.
And we hit the jackpot 30 years ago. 30 years we've shared laughs and tears, and 30 years building an unbreakable bond. Retirement may change your schedule, but it will never change what we've built over 35 years. We love you. First picture? Smile. Congratulations. I love you. I just love you. Congratulations. Congratulations to Kelsey. Thank you. And then a lovely word. Congratulations. And we... Thank you. Thank you. Congratulations. She wants you. She wants you. I love her. We're going to do a couple things off schedule here before I let you all go. While we have you captivated, let's go to the president's announcements real quick. I know you have a couple things you want to bring up. Yes. Mr. President, I would just like to the Mayfield Alumni Association is hosting an appreciation dinner on Saturday
March 14th and it will be held at Greedo's in Chesterland. Any alumni, Mayfield staff, I hope you come get a table together for a really enjoyable evening. This is the second year that the Alumni Association is doing this dinner. Again, it's an appreciation dinner. The dinner costs $50 but your cost is only $25. The Association is picking up the other half, so please consider coming. It's an excellent meal, a great night of friendship and reconnecting and just having some fun. There'll be a DJ and some beverages and we'll have a good time. The other event that the Mayfield Alumni Association is hosting, it's back, will be the fifth annual Topgolf event. Thank you. This will be held on Sunday, April 12th, that's Masters Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. out at Topgolf and Independence. You
will golf, each bay holds six golfers. You'll golf for three hours. It includes lunch, non-alcoholic beverages. It is $390 per bay and this is to benefit the Mayfield High School Learn and Earn program. So we hope maybe you'll come join us. Thank you. Thank you. Next we have the superintendents of Osgoods. Thank you, Mr. President. So we have four quality improvement pillars, one of which is our students. So I've asked assistant superintendent, Mr. Jeff Legan, to give the board an update on some of the wonderful things that are going on with our students. Mr. President, we were celebrating you. You still have to come to work tomorrow. You're not retiring yet. So the other day, Dr. Barnes and I were talking to Brian Lin, the principal of the University of Michigan. He said, you know,
you're going to be a great student. You're going to be a great student. You're going to be a great student. You're going to be a great student. You're going to be a great student. You're going to be a great student. You're going to be a great student. He was also the principal at Mayfield High School. And he was so proud of the academic and athletic accomplishments that are currently taking place. And I think that it should be highlighted, especially, I mean, this is a season of celebration. It always is. We always want to celebrate our kids. So academic-wise, right now, it was just named that we have three National Merit finalists, which is a huge accomplishment. Over a million kids that take the PSAT, only 1% are high as National Merit finalists and we have
three that were recognized in Mayfield and that's Krish Punyam, Purva Punyam and Vincent Vigliotti. Our speech and debate team we have four state qualifiers Gia Ikeveta, Ashwin Payakurl, Yashis Mishra and Ryand Sharma. Gia Ikeveta was named to the North Coast District's World Schools debate team. She's only the second student in the history of Mayfield ever qualify for a national speech and debate tournament and then our mock trial team recently competed at the regional competition they are very proud and I'll put this as bulletin board material but they were happy they knocked Solin out of the state competition. Athletic wise we have three teams that were WRC champions. Boys swimming and diving, girls swimming and diving and a wrestling team. In swimming and diving we have five state qualifiers that will be competing this Friday. oh
Julia Melitesta, Casey Cullivan, Adam Glazuski, Gavin Goldstein, and Max Seminov. I also want to highlight our cheerleaders were state qualifiers this year. And lastly, our hockey team playing right now, they're playing hopefully for a district championship, but they have 20 wins. They are only the second team in Mayfield history to have that many wins. So just want to highlight all these great accomplishments. Thanks for all that information. The opportunities for the students is unbelievable, what's available for them, and why they take advantage of it. They're doing very well. I'm also going to go off script before I let everybody go, because we have a guest here who's new to our Mayfield family. So I want to go to the superintendent's consent agenda, A through O, because I have a motion for approval. Second. You're driving
Mr. Snyder crazy tonight. Yes, you are. I feel like that will trip him. Okay, so roll call. Mr. Grosset. Yes. Mr. Hess. Yes. Mr. Panara. Yes. Ms. Greaves. Yes. So Mr. Destino, I think you want to introduce our... Ms. McLaughlin. Ms. McLaughlin. Okay. I want to introduce our newest member to our community. I am honored to introduce Darren Moskowitz as the new Mayfield Middle School band director. When interviewing for this position, there were three things that I was really looking for. Creating a system. Creating a sense of belonging. Connecting with kids. And how do we get the band program to grow. Paul and I have interviewed together for 11 years now. And I know that when he likes a candidate, he asks a specific question. And that question, I adore it because you can see
a person's heart in their response. He asked Darren, do you want kids to like you? And immediately, without hesitation, Darren responded, no, I want kids to love me. I knew an animal, but I found my guy. So we went through the process. I was able to go to Kent and see him student teach. Was blown away. Offered him the position. And he told me he's been preparing for this since he was four years old. Plays a variety of different instruments. His mom is here. We were talking about all the different instruments. She started him in piano very young. So as I told you when I offered you the position, welcome to the Mayfield. You know family, very excited to be the first step on your journey. Thank you. Yeah. With that, we're going to get
to business but we'll let you go. And we have other things to do. Have a good night. Thank you. So we are back. There was no community communication. Nothing to do with this. All right. Any committee requests? We'll move on then to the other superintendent's business. A. Ohio high school athletes. I vote for approval. So moved. Second. Rocco. Ms. Grosick. Yes. Mr. Hess. Yes. Mr. Finaro. Yes. Ms. Green. Yes. Item B, the Mayfield High School baseball and softball team trip to Myrtle Beach. Motion for approval. So moved. Second. Rocco. Ms. Grosick. Yes. Mr. Hess. Yes. Mr. Finaro. Yes. Ms. Green. Yes. So moved. Second. So moved. Second. Mr. Grosick. Yes. Mr. Hess. Yes. Mr. Finaro. Yes. Ms. Green. Yes. Moving on to the Treasury report. Subject A, financial statements for January 31, 2025. Motion for
approval. So moved. Second. I just say that should be January 31, 2025. So moved. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Second. Mr. Hess? Yes. Mr. Fanaro? Yes. Ms. Greve? Yes. Item C, donations. I'll make the motion. I have a second. Second. Third. Roll call. Ms. Grosset? Yes. Mr. Hess? Yes. Mr. Fanaro? Yes. Ms. Greve? Yes. Subject D, our 2026-27 consumable fee. Motion for approval. Second. Third. I just wanted to say what a nice job has been done in trying to keep them as steady as possible. And a lot of the things that did accelerate had nothing to do with us, but had to do
with different books and things. Ms. Grosset, Ms. Longfar had a lot to do with at least the employment fees and working with principals. So certainly that should be directed at her. Good move. Thank you. And the AP fees dropped considerably. Yeah, they did. $99 across the board. Very good. That's good. Very good. Roll call. Ms. Grosset? Yes. Mr. Hess? Yes. Mr. Fanaro? Yes. Ms. Greve? Yes. Subject D, addendum number one, financial transactions. Motion for approval. Second. Third. Okay. Second. Thank you. The other one earlier. Roll call. Ms. Grosset? Yes. Mr. Hess? Yes. Mr. Fanaro? Yes. Ms. Greve? Yes. Other Treasurer's business, item eight minutes of the regular board meeting, January 28th, 2026. Motion for approval. So moved. Second. Roll call. Ms. Grosset? Yes. Mr. Hess? Yes. Mr. Fanaro? Yes. Ms. Greve? Yes. Subject B, college
credit plus program agreement with Canada Community College. Motion for approval. So moved. Second. Second. Second. Second. Thank you. Roll call. Ms. Grosset? Yes. Mr. Hess? Yes. Mr. Fanaro? Yes. Mrs. Greve? Yes. Item C, the authorizing of filing a complaint against the valuation of real property for texture 2025. Motion for approval? So moved. Second. I would just like to clarify, or at least, I'll put up public in the board. We only filed complaints if there's an arm's length transaction on commercial property that exceeds $50,000. We initiate the complaint to make certain that an arms-length transaction should in essence determine the value for property. So we have since the law has since changed you have to do that each individual parcel. So last year we had six to eight parcels on the board of general. This year
there was only one and there's been a huge reduction in the class to think about business office space, think about even some of our retail spaces have seen a reduction in their property values. We also then participate in the reduction complaints that we're not initiating those those are from the private businesses so this just continues to protect the tax base protect the residential homeowner we do not file complaints against them and we don't participate in those processes just because the residents they have legitimate issue to file the complaint and we just simply say that's between you and the Board of Tax Appeals or the Board of Revision. Just to clarify. Thank you. Ms. Grozak. Yes. Mr. Hess. Yes. Mr. Panaro. Yes. Ms. Greve. Yes. All right I need a motion to move into executive session.
So moved. Second. So this is according to ORC 121.22 to consider the employment of public employees and for reviewing negotiations with public employees concerning compensation for other terms or conditions of their employment. And there will be no action for that. Second. So we will move out of the room. And then just adjourn. I'll adjourn. Yes. Roll call. Ms. Grozak. Yes. Mr. Hess. Yes. Mr. Panaro. Yes. Ms. Greve. Yes.
