I'd like to reconvene this meeting back into order at 6.05. During the closed session, the board voted on two items. 2.1.1, the board voted to approve the appointment of Sophia Atuna as principal of Gavilanview Middle

003School. The vote was 3-0. And the second portion of that is item 2.1.2. The board voted to approve to compensate Sophia Tuna for six additional work days in June at the rate of an interim middle school principal for the purpose of finalizing the master schedule hiring additional step for the new school year. The vote was also 3-0. Would you like to say a few words? Now it's on. Okay, great. Thank you so much. I'm really here. I'm really humbled. And I'm just coming to all of you with an abundance of gratitude for entrusting me with this principal position. I am very proud of all the work that we've done at Gavilan View these last two years and extremely honored to have been the vice principal these last two years. My team is an incredible team

004of staff and teachers, and I'm really looking forward to this next year. I really want to thank you all. I want to thank my family who's here, my husband and my daughter are here because as you all know, being an administrator in education, it's a whole family effort. So thank you. Thank you both. I also want to just say a few words to the families who are watching. I really am committed to doing right by your children, and I want them to come to Gavilan View and be a part of this community, the Santa Rita community, and flourish and thrive holistically. I want them to... to come to school and feel like this is the place for them and to come out here a stronger student and well prepared for high school because that's really

005important and really establishing their goals for the future in college and career and I want to set them up for that. And so it's going to be a great honor to be a part of their educational journey and I'm really looking forward. you know, to the 24, 25 school year, 23, 24 school year and on. And as you can tell, I'm a little nervous, but I am. I'm just really thankful. So thank you so much. You know, the board is definitely excited to have you come in as a principal. I know me personally, Gallaudet View holds a special place because it's a school that I attended. So you'll be definitely working with a lot of our future leaders there at the school. So I don't know if the board would like to say any words

006as well. Go ahead. Some decisions as a board member are really difficult. This was so easy. We are just delighted. And many times I've had staff members call me this year and talk to me about something that you did that took care of a staff member or took care of a child. So people are going out of their way to talk about how they feel supported by you. So we're just delighted. I'm so thrilled that you are going to be joining us as a principal there at Gavilanview. I've also heard a lot of good things about you. And that also holds a big place in my heart, Gavilanview does, because all of my kids went to Gavilanview. So good luck, and I'm sure you're going to be a wonderful, wonderful asset to Gavilanview. Ms. Antuna,

007may we take a photograph with you so that we can post it on our Facebook? Absolutely. Where are we posting? Right up here in the front? Mr. President, I'm going to make a request to move item 11.1 to go ahead of item 8.1. Okay. Can I please get a motion for the change, please? Motion to approve the suggested amendment to the agenda. Okay. Can I get a second? Second. Roll call, please. Ms. Turner? Aye. Ms. Arellano? Aye. Mr. Sandoval? Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Okay, thank you. So we're going to start off. Let me just pull that item up really quick. Okay, we're going to move on to item 11.1. See if they're ready with that. Okay. 11.1 is adoption of resolution 23.06.16. It's respect of indigenous peoples. And that's an item for Dr. Summer Prather-Smith.

008Wait for a little bit. Oh, they're still writing. Okay. Okay. Okay. So we'll go through the quick items first, and then we'll give them a break. Give me one. Okay. Item 6.1, is there anybody here from SRTA or any comments that were submitted? Sorry. No comments. Okay. Is there any comments? 6.2 from CSEA? No comments. No comments. Okay. Yeah. Victor is not here. We can go ahead and do the director's report. They're still coming in. Okay. Item 6.3, Superintendent's Cabinet. Mr. Richard Sandoval is not here. Moving on to Director of Nutritional Services, Mr. Chuck Helm. Oh, sorry. Oh, thank you. I thought we... No, no, I think, yeah. I think we got a little bit sidetracked there. My apologies. Thank you, Board Member, for item 5.1, approval of consent agenda, items 5.2 to 5.4. Can

009I please get a motion to approve? Motion to approve. Second. Okay, roll call. Ms. Turner? Aye. Ms. Arellano? Aye. Mr. Sandoval? Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Okay, thank you. Ms. Turner for that. Now moving on to Superintendent's Cabinet, Mr. Chuck Helm, Director of Regional Services. Hi, good evening, everyone. I don't have a ton to report at summertime, of course, with not a ton going on for us, but we are still supporting the Summer Academy with meals. I'm looking forward to that in the next few weeks, finishing out that program. And then I have a couple agenda items on for later. Thank you. Okay. Any questions or comments from the board? None. Okay. Thank you for your update. Chief Business Officer, Ms. Rosa Zamudio. I have a budget presentation coming up, so I'll save my time for

010that. Thank you. Director of Special Education and Student Services, Ms. Melanie Grundy. Perfect. Good evening. A little bit. Been able to attend with, what, 28 of our teachers, the Science of Reading this week, a five-day training, so really excited to be involved in that. Been working around the clock on the special education state compliance reports that are due June 30th. So just really looking at our overall compliance, our service logs, and just making sure that we're auditing. It's been really informative with just trainings that we're gonna wanna make sure we're giving all our new teacher and our returning teachers. Also, We were able to recertify all of our special education teachers and select classified staff that had gone through safety care. So they've re-upped their certification and now are certified for another year. So we

011had two training days and those were both really successful in May and June. And then last but not least, just really still working collaboratively with HR, trying to make sure all of our special ed positions are filled. And while I'll be bringing you some additional certificated, not certificated, my apologies, contracted positions, we are still actively trying to fill those through our own Santa Rita systems. So any questions? So for the contract services, right now it's kind of just the preliminary approval, and then if we find somebody for the position, then it would kind of... Yeah, so the way we set them up this year is that they are for the year, but I did make sure that every contract that I'm bringing forward is there's either, depends on the contractor, but 30 to 60 days

012where we could cancel the contract and work towards having our own person fill in and step into that position. Okay. Any other questions from the board? Okay, thank you for the update. Perfect, thank you. Director of Parent and Family and Community Engagement, Dr. Summer Prather-Smith. So I have stuff happening later, but I just want to I have two items so first I just want to thank Blanca Valverde our community liaison who was able to receive a $350 donation from Ross and Dee Dee discounts for gift cards that we're going to be able to use for our families this year so great job Blanca I didn't even know she sought it out, so that's what great initiative our team has and then I'm gonna Use my time to let KSBW do a quick presentation for us

013a quick overview before my item that comes up later Okay. Thank you. You guys can come up to that podium. That's the person. So thank you. I'll try and make this as understandable as possible. So typically when we work on things like this, it sounds very techie and people are like, I don't know that. Don't talk to me about online things and Internet things. But I'll make it very basic. And, again, we're open for questions. So I'll give a little bit of a background where we started with this is KSBW being TV. In the TV world, especially for our market, the signal goes anywhere and everywhere. So we cover Santa Cruz County, San Benito County, Monterey County. So when we started talking with Dr. Summer, it was... Let's talk about the boundaries geographically and get

014closer to what Santa Rita School District is. So this is kind of where we're going at it, and this is an example of how audience targeting is done. So anything from age and gender, interests, but the most important piece, again, is where we started with geographical targeting. So we don't get the message out to Santa Cruz where it might not. make a lot of a difference for the goals that that center eat would have So in this case if you can go back one just one real quick so that's an example of where we started right in the bottom there is Having an audience target of households that have children 2 to 11 and three zip codes Specifically there is so that's where we're reducing it I can go into how this is done, the

015audience targeting. I'll usually give case studies of people recognize, look for some shoes online, and later on they go to another site and they're like, wait a minute, these are following me. There's a lot of that being done there with IP addresses, with things that are connected to our mobile devices and things like that. That'll kind of give an idea. So we started with this as well because we talked about the importance of Spanish language dominant speakers as well. So we also copied this from something, a campaign we were doing with Salinas Elementary School District where they had the same type of thing. I said we want to get the message to that audience as well that might not be English dominant in their speaking. So this will kind of speak to those. Another difference

016here is it's for social media advertising, not social media marketing. So a lot of people say, well, what's the difference there? Marketing is typically you have your business profile page and you're sending out posts. You're organically just putting out things there in the community. When it's in the advertising world, you reach beyond that. So in this case, we're working with Facebook, which is also Instagram. So we send it across their universe regardless of if they've had interaction with the Santa Rita page or not. Again, it's with that target. of households with children within a certain age range and then reduced to very specific zip codes as well. Video ads is the same thing, so it's just a difference of how they run. You can do things like display ads of banner and text or videos

017within the ads as well. Then carousels, kind of like those, but they'll scroll around. They're a little bit more dynamic and interactive. But the difference between all of these is the same. It's still that audience target and outside of, just out in the universe is not only restricted to the one business page. Same thing, YouTube. A little bit of what offers us a lot of Spanish language reach. A lot of scale in this. People love their YouTube. The difference in this, though, is the way we do it with Hearst Television, KSBW, is we filter out many of the things. So it's not the cat videos. It's not what we call user-generated videos. We don't use those at all because they're... It's hard to filter those for content. They're not really quality content. So it's more

018of a TV-like programming, TV-like experience where we use advertising on those. But again, it allows us that heavy audience targetability. And then lastly... streaming TV, so people say, well, what is that? It's just TV. It just happens to be connected to your internet, so you might think of applications like Tubi TV, Pluto TV, and a lot of the network TVs now have their streaming companion as well, like A&E and Lifetime, CNN, Peacock, all these different things. That allows us to target as well, because as opposed to it being the broadcast TV where it can go anywhere, because it's connected to the internet, we can now restrict it to certain audiences and certain geographical range as well. So to give you an example of where we did this with Salinas Elementary as well was... We used

019this segment for the majority of their general language speaking, so it wasn't restricted to Spanish language. We used the others for restricting to more Spanish language and did this as a wide open, more net of simply households that have children within the ranges of 2 to 11 years old and to specific zip codes as well. So I hope it wasn't too techy there, but that's just about it. And this kind of looks like it gets techy, but it gets into, well, what is streaming TV? There's connected TV, smart TV, streaming devices. It's basically anything that connects the way you'd normally look at TV to the Internet. But it's not, it's typically in our world, we go more for that larger screen as opposed to people viewing on their phone or on tablets. And the reason

020why we do that is because it's much easier to leave the commercial breaks or leave the programming with ease. You're clicking around an app, you're clicking around a device. When they're watching it through the large screen TV and it just happens to be connected to the internet, they're viewing it in the same way where they're watching the whole way through. Short commercial breaks are typically on streaming TV, so they're a lot more viewable there. I think that one's it. That's the last one. Yeah. Yeah. No, no. Thank you. This is the thing you're bringing us item forward. I know this was kind of a board direction to kind of get us out there. There's a lot of great things that are happening in the Santa Rita district and it's important to get out there and

021the message to let families know and stuff. So I don't have any specific questions, but thank you for the presentation. Yeah, and I just, I want to make a comment just for the audience and people that are watching at home. What we're interested in doing is being able to let the community know, hey, we're having a free health clinic here. Hey, this is when TK registration is happening. So, you know, we have the ability to connect electronically with our families, but there are so many people in the area who are eligible for services and don't know. So that's really like what our goal is. to put it out there, hey, we have these great community partnerships, how can more people participate in them? Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You guys are free

022to go. Yeah, thank you. Thank you, guys. OK, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Ms. Donna Coney. Thank you. I'll reserve my items for my presentations and items in my area of the board meeting. I want to update you, though. Summer Academy is going very well at Gavilanview, ESY, at both sites, as well as at Santa Rita. And the structure of it this year is very solid with enrichment activities as well as the activities under the academic piece. And the teachers are doing an amazing job. Okay, thank you. Questions or comments from the board? I think I'll be reaching out. I'd like to visit probably one of those summer academies. Yeah, thank you. Assistant Superintendent of Human Resource, Ms. Becky Moore. Thank you. I have just one thing to share, and that is that today we

023had a training for all of our MOT staff, our custodians, maintenance workers, and groundskeepers on safe lifting techniques. So they were here this afternoon, and that went very well. It was presented by our risk manager with our MRMA Association. Okay, perfect. Should we start with 11.1? Okay, give me a second to pull that up. Okay, we're going to do item 11.1. It's adoption of resolution 23.06.16 regarding the respect of indigenous peoples. In goal four of the LCAP, we have committed to the implementation of anti-bias, equity, and anti-racism policies and practices. The attached resolution was created in collaboration with Centro Binacional para Desarrollo Indígena Oaxaqueño. I don't know if you want to give a couple moments if they want to speak before we... Sure. Dr. Martinez, do you want to say anything? Is this a public

024comment? Yeah, you can do public comment. I mean, you can comment in here. We're not, do you want to do? Yeah, that's okay. If they want to do it on this item, we can do it because it's part of the item. That's okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. They're going to go first and then. Right here on the microphone. Public comment for the public as well? Yeah. Okay. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. Oh, you look perfect. Thank you so much. They invited us here today and they invited us all here to talk. Since we're here to talk, let's all... Oh, sorry. Since we're all here to talk, it's a good thing for us to stand up for our kids. So they don't say anything

025negative to our kids? So they're not mean to our kids? We're older and we should teach our kids respect and not to be mean to each other, to go to school and learn. So they don't say Wahakita or any words like that. Like it's their parents who came from Mexico. I have some kids in Santa Rita school. It's two of them. There's also a girl. There's no complaints about her. One of my younger boys, they tell him that he doesn't change. He doesn't change clothes or shoes. My boy doesn't like that. He said one time that he's not going to go anymore because they are mean to him. They tell him that he doesn't change. And do those small things. Due to that small thing, he said he doesn't want to go to school anymore,

026and he has lost motivation and doesn't want to continue school anymore. What I want to speak out about is that in the offices, there should be people that speak three languages. Like I have a kid that's waiting to go into kindergarten? And when he comes back, he will go back in. There was a kid that we wanted to submit an application for. And there's a worker in the office. I'm not sure what her name is, but she mentioned. and my husband was going to go fill out the application. She told him to leave and she told him that there was still a lot of proof needed and she made these hand gestures and she shouldn't be doing that. She doesn't need to do that. And she should speak nicely. And she should find a different

027way to say that she needs certain proof and she shouldn't be there in that office. They should have someone that speaks three languages, English and Spanish, in the office. Like that lady, she only speaks English. And that'll be all that I will say. There was a lot of things that I wanted to say, but I forgot them all. I am sorry. Okay. Hi, I am a student. My name is Griselda Zarate, and I am a student here at Gavilan View. Two years ago, I went to Santa Rita, and I was discriminated. And it wasn't a very nice feeling. And I'm obviously not going to point out any names because it's obviously rude. But she doesn't pick on me anymore. I remember she used to pick on me a lot since I was in a lot

028of her classes. And now she doesn't pick on me anymore. I think she forgot about me, but I'm kind of happy about that. She would always, like, make fun of me, and I didn't really like it. And obviously I wouldn't speak out. There was a protest, I think, in Santa Rita to stop bullying. And I'm pretty sure she signed that and she kept on picking on me after. And now my sister is in the school, my little sister Laila, she's in the school. And she tells me that they also pick on her and I don't really feel nice about that because... Because the teachers don't really do anything. I don't think they pay attention to her. She's kind of just there. And then one day she came back from school. She was crying and she

029told me that there was a girl that was picking on her. And I didn't like it because it's obviously my little sister. Nobody likes that feeling. And I was obviously very disappointed, but there was nothing I could really do. And I was kind of hoping that the teachers would help her, but I guess not. I kind of hope that her next year is better, her third grade year is better, because, like, honestly, I feel bad for her. I feel like everybody deserves respect if you're from Oaxaca or not. Like, everybody deserves respect. And, yeah, that's kind of all I wanted to say. I kind of just wanted to put it out there because it's not really rude. It's not really nice. And thank you for being brave and speaking up. And I have a child

030here in Gavilan and two in Santa Rita. What I'm here to say is it's important that there is a school in Spanish and English, one here in Gavilán and another in Santa Rita. When I come to meetings, there is no one that speaks Spanish, no one that will respond to me. Three times I came to a meeting at Santa Rita for my daughter, but I didn't understand if she was doing well or doing bad because I couldn't understand. Like the messages they sent through the computer, it would be good if they'd send them in English and Spanish. The good thing is there's already a teacher that teaches English, but maybe in the evenings there should be a teacher that teaches Spanish. There should be people that speak three languages because like all the applications that

031are coming up, we're not able to fill out the applications. Like the applications for school, the people in the schools, like the supervisors, they don't want to help us fill out those papers. That's why I'm asking for the favor that what we're here asking for is that they accomplish that. And that's the time. And that'll be all. Okay, gracias. Hi, my name is Elizabeth Rodriguez and I have seen lots of bullying towards indigenous people, not only to us students, but to our parents. And I want you guys to vote yes on the resolution so that these changes can not only be changed in this district only, but around Salinas and possibly around California. So no one could feel too... to feel indigenous or to feel to be changed at all, or anything. Thank you. Thank

032you for speaking up. Thank you to everyone that's here. My name is Marciana Gonzalez. I am here to help the parents of the people that are here in Santa Rita. I come from far, but since I want to help them, I am here. And what's going on here in Santa Rita school, it's going on at every school. When we go ask teachers or we talk to them if there's any papers missing for our kids or if we want them to switch into two languages, and the principal, tells us that we don't have to worry because the students need to speak English since we're in the U.S. When they say that we must speak. all English because we live in the U.S. We don't need to speak our language because we're in the United States and

033they tell us that we need to speak English. And that's where even us, and it's true that they're in their country, but during that time we put our heads down down the road. I didn't understand what my rights are, but everywhere, even if it's a school, store, or even at work, I am very sad about what's going on with us. They look down upon us for the clothes. They don't know what we go through. It's very hard to... speak about it, these type of words that they look down upon us. The work we do here in the United States, we're the ones that go and do the jobs so that our kids can come to school and then there's no respect with what they do to us. Like the lady that passed before, when she

034said that they looked down on their shoes, that they had no shoes. Truthfully, only when the season is on, We have money to buy our kids things. And it's not until there's nothing until we go to the store. And when the clothes wash, the colors change. And it may look old, but just because it looks old doesn't mean it's dirty. And the people that have more money, they put more value in their clothes. And like us, we stay behind. Even if we go to a store, There's been many experiences when we go to Medi-Cal, they speak down on us before they even provide us a service. And that's time. Yeah, thank you. We are here. The Gavilan School invited us. What I want to talk about is about the breakfast for the kids. I would

035like to switch the breakfast because all the breakfast is just made up. And sometimes it hurts the kids. I have a child. And he starts in the program after school at six. And when he goes home, he doesn't want to go to school. He says that his stomach hurts. That's why I would like a way that they could make changes to the food, hot food. That's all I want to say. That's all. Thank you. Anyone else before we move on? Hello, everybody. I want to thank everyone that's here. Thank you for helping us that they got together and helping us with this meeting. My children are here in Santa Rita and there's one that's in Gavilan and they don't pertain to this school. I used to live in Santa Rita before and they went into

036these schools. And since they were children, they've been at these schools. And they don't want to leave these schools. And I always have to go to the district so they could stay here. And they didn't come with me to give their testimony, but... I don't know why they want to be in these schools, but always I support them since they want to be in these schools and I support them. And I go to the district every year so they could be at these schools, but they don't pertain to these schools. They didn't come here to give their words about their experiences, but from my perspective, they are fine. They need more Spanish and spelling. And that's time. Okay, thank you. Thank you everybody for your words. I'm going to talk in six so you can

037translate as well. We do hear you and we do have to do better. We have committed to try to find more translators. The challenge at times is finding qualified people who can work, but I know Dr. Summer Prather-Smith has been working with the organization that's here helping you today to help find those translators. And it's really empowering that you guys came here to speak. And it's important that we hear the positive, but also the negatives, because it's how we learn to do better. If we don't know that it's happening, then there's really no way for us to try to work on it and to improve it. So thank you for all. And this space is always open. So if in the future you feel the need that it's important for you to come, this is

038always a space for you to come and address your concerns. Sorry, did you want to say something real quick before we read the resolution? Yeah. Dr. Martinez. Yes. Okay. It is. Good afternoon everyone. Again, thank you, President Board, Board President, for accepting and for having this resolution in your agenda. My name is Sarai Martinez. I'm the Executive Director with Centro Binacional para el Desarrollo Indígena Oaxaqueño. We are an indigenous-led organization that works in the Monterey County and then also in the Central Valley. And again, I think you heard from the parents, there's a lot happening and a lot of support that the district itself needs to provide for the different schools. And we're happy to be working together to try to figure it out. How do we start? I think this is a step towards

039the right direction. And there's a lot more that needs to happen. But I do believe that with the resolution that you have in front of you, we're going to be addressing some of these inequities that have passed. and address the racism and discrimination that our kids are feeling, that our parents are feeling. I don't think we're gonna be able to address everything, but I do feel like this is the step moving towards that direction. And we appreciate your support, and we hope to have a vote that will be in the benefit of our community. So yeah, thank you for it. having us here and for listening and I know that yeah so in your ability to like work with us okay thank you we're gonna we're gonna read the resolution before us okay before the

040Board of Trustees of the Santa Rita Union School District resolution number 23.06.16 resolution for respect of indigenous peoples Whereas mutual respect for all cultures and ethnicities is a key to healthy communities. Whereas students' success and achievement are greatly enhanced in an environment which actively promotes such mutual respect and embraces cultural and linguistic diversity. Whereas indigenous communities have suffered from historic injustices as a result of inter alia their colonization and the disposition of their lands, languages, territories, and resources. thus preventing them from exercising in particular their right to development in accordance with their own needs and interests. Whereas indigenous residents and their children in Monterey County regularly face discrimination and the denigration of their culture and language through these words such as Oaxaca or Oaxaca. Whereas Santa Rita Union School District has a diverse indigenous population

041from Guerrero, Oaxaca, primarily Misteco-speaking parents and students. Whereas the Misteco indigenous community in the Santa Rita Union School District has come together through Centro Binacional para el Desarrollo Indígena Oaxaqueño, Comité de la Voz Mixteca, to combat such denigrating speech and its effect on our children and young people. And whereas CBDIO is indigenous woman led organization that works in Central Valley and Central Coast to foster and strengthen the civic participation, economic, social, cultural developments of the indigenous communities, as well as the resistance of indigenous communities. Now for it be resolved, the Santa Rita Union School District will work to prohibit the use of the denigrating terms Oaxaquita, Oaxaquito, and in Dito and its institutions. Passed and adopted this 14th day of June 2023. Can I get a motion to approve? Unless there's some comments. Motion to approve. Second. Okay, roll call please. Miss Turner. Aye. Miss Arianna. Aye. Mr. Sandoval. Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Do some of them feel comfortable taking a picture with us up front? Yeah. Oh, I'm not going to go to the bathroom. I'm going to go to the bathroom. I'm going to go to the bathroom. Oh, finger kiss. Yes! Hey! Oh Thank you. That was a large group. I do want to say to the interpreter. Edgar, thank you. God, you did a fantastic job. Great job, Edgar. Thank you for being here.

044Appreciate it. That might be a potential. That's it for now. Yeah. That might be a potential job for you. Interpreter. Great job. Thank you. Oh, that's a good idea. Okay, we're going to keep moving forward. We're going to move on to 6.4, which is the board and the superintendent. We'll start off with Ms. Sarah Turner. I'm all excited now. I don't have anything to report right at this moment. Thank you. Ms. Alvariano? Same here. I don't have much to report either this time around. Okay. Thank you. I did get a chance to attend a meeting with them, so it's really good to see a lot of those parents that showed up to that meeting. Okay, moving on to... We're the first in the county to pass such resolution, so they'll definitely be taking this forward

045as an example for all other partnering districts. Yeah, and thank you for everybody's patience. I felt it was... Oh, thank you, thank you. Yeah, I know, I felt it was really important. I think a lot of times they don't get that space to kind of walk up there, so I figured it'd be good practice for themselves as well, just in case they ever have to go up to any type of other government meeting, so. Yeah, and kudos to the kids that got up, because that's scary, and they did a great job. Yeah, they did, yeah, yeah. Okay. Ms. Dr. Alderman? My only thing is to remind everyone that we have our board workshop coming up on the 24th. We'll be in here from 9 to 12. Okay. Thank you. Moving on to 7.1, public comment

046writing non-agenda items. Do we have some? Yes. We have amazing people here from RIF. They look familiar. Just make sure that green light is on. You helped us a lot, so thank you. We wanted to come in person. My name is Denise Pollock, and I'm president of Salinas Area Reading is Fundamental. I'm Audrey Varner. I'm the vice president of the same program, and we are here to be thankful for you and all your families and all the people that help us. Sarah, Summer. I only know first names, Melissa. I'm not kidding, Donna. And everybody that takes part in helping us give away books to students all over this valley. We give away 25 to 50,000 books a year, depending on grants that we receive. Everything is all our money. 99.9 is spent on that. We're

047all volunteers, and I've done it for 32 years. And we're still doing it as we get older. It's a little harder. But we're just thankful that you adopted us, provided a space, which we'll never be able to thank you enough for. And that's why we're here. Yeah. Very overdue to come in person and thank you. Well, we're thanks we're delighted and I wanted to thank my fellow board members at the point when riff needed a home the board I brought it forward and there was no hesitation at all and I've just been incredibly grateful to the administration and to the board for supporting it and One of the things that I love is that, yes, we're helping all of our Santa Rita kids, but we're also helping North County kids, Salinas City Elementary. This is

048something that we're doing for our children and thousands of other children. And I'm also incredibly grateful to the volunteer board because I know the hours and hours and hours that they put into this. So it's just a joy to help our kids come to love reading because they get to be book owners, which many children would not have the opportunity otherwise. Thanks, Sarah. We also want to invite you, if anybody wants to contact us, and we'll be glad to show you our new building and all the books that are in it. We're all moved in. We're ready to go. We actually counted them for the first time ever, so now we know we have enough to give away three books a year instead of two for the next two years, which makes us happy with

049the same limited funds that we get. Do you have any other questions? No, but I was going to say, thank you for doing what you do, and believe it or not, I actually had fun helping you move. And you had so many parents and staff come. We're still in the process of getting a complete list, so we can write real thank you notes. There was a teacher that helped tremendously, and tons of parents and other people, families, kids. So thank you. Yeah, no, thank you as well. Okay, do we have any other public comments regarding agenda or non-agenda items? No, there's no public comment. Okay, moving on to 8.1, approval of one-year renewal with EMS, link for point of service and other services related to the school nutrition department for school year 23, 24. Oh

050my goodness, 24. Wow, after hearing you read that, I realized I should have shortened it a little bit. Next year, next year I will. So, yeah, this is just an annual renewal. Link used to be Titan. We've used Titan for a few years now. They work great with Ares. And every year we go out to get competitive quotes, and they continuously have put in the most competitive for us. So it's just a renewal. Okay, roll call. Ms. Turner? Aye. Ms. Arellano? Aye. Mr. Sandoval? Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Okay, item 8.2, approval of one-year agreement with Animal Damage Management for Pest Control Services for year 23 to 24. Another renewal here, ADM, Animal Damage Management, does work for MOT. They also do our kitchens at all of our cafeterias, including the central kitchen. Can I get

051a motion to approve? Motion to approve. Second. Okay, roll call, please. Ms. Turner? Aye. Ms. Arellano? Aye. Mr. Sandoval? Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Excuse me. Item 8.3, approval of one-year agreement with Mission Linen for linen services for school year 23-24. And the last approval for us this year, as far as contracts go, this is for our towels and aprons and other linens that we use in our kitchens for catering and for, obviously, the school cafeterias. Okay, can I get a motion to approve? Motion to approve. Second. Okay, roll call. Ms. Turner? Aye. Ms. Arellano? Aye. Mr. Sandoval? Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Okay, item 8.4, public hearing regarding the district's proposed budget for the 2023-2024 school year. It's 7.05 and I'd like to open this hearing. Good evening. So I'm going to go ahead and start

052with the budget presentation for July 1st budget. And you should have a PowerPoint slide with you. Let me get the clicker. Or you can switch it. You can do it for me? Okay, thank you. So we can go to the first slide. So these are just some highlights for today's presentation, something that you're going to see moving on with the presentation. We're going to see deductions. This is due to the one-time grants that we're not having in the coming years. Also, something just that I wanted to share that it was on the May proposal, it's for the TK compliance. Right now we have 12 to 1. The proposal in the May revise is 10 to 1. So if by the time the state... Since the budget in July that is actually approved, then there might

053be changes coming up. They usually give us some time. The guidance for the state right now is to follow current law, which is 12 to 1. We also have a total of 13 new positions that were previously approved, and I have them listed right there, and you're going to see those increases on the budget as we move forward. Go ahead. All right, so this is the May revised information. As you know, for the 23-24, we do have the 8.22 COLA. And as you can see, moving forward towards the next two years, the COLA is reduced. So just something to keep in mind. Also, district enrollment, as based on the last three years, we are doing a projection that, and being conservative as well, that enrollment might be reducing as well. Our ratio to ADA right

054now is at 88% as we are trying to get more students back since COVID. Just to keep in mind statewide right now it's at 86% so we're doing really good. As I was getting more information from cabinet, I know they've been working really hard on the truancy letters. So once we close the books, that percentage may be on the 90s. So just something to keep in mind and maybe seeing those differences once we close the books. Something to highlight here is that the costars rate on the May revised proposal is staying the same, which is great. However, the PERS, it is increasing year over year. Alright, so I usually want to do follow up from the last budget report that I did, which is the second interim. So what I'm going to do right here

055is compare the second interim report that was the last board approved versus our current closing year budget report, and then I'll go over the July 1st budget. So on the LCFF funding, you do see an increase in there. We did have an add-on for the TK that it's ongoing that the state just provided, and it was reflected on this calculation. Also something to keep in mind is that the current year is going to be funded on the three prior year. 88 years so as the state or if there's any revision for ADA even though it has been past years it will impact our current year. That's why we got a little bit of an increase as well in there. Again federal revenue it was due to one of the one-time grants that we're not having

056this year. The local income increase as you can see We did get a grant and this came in late in the year. It is for kitchen grant equipment and employee training. So that's something to keep in mind that we have it there. We got it late in the year and we're planning to use it on the future years. As we move forward on salaries and benefits, the reductions are due to the one-time funds. We have budgeted hourly for PD. time for certificated and classified and as we completed those trainings and let's say we budget for 100 people there was only 50 people that came in so we're revising the budgets based on actuals now. We're also we also have some savings on vacancies as we pull in or position control as of May. and looking

057at those savings from vacancies. So it's not encumbering the whole year worth of salary. It's only doing this last month. So as we close the books, we're going to end up with, if we don't hire the positions that we have vacant, we're going to end up with additional surplus on those salaries. Books and supplies did increase. We had a book adoption this year. So that's why you see a high increase of $1.3 million. And we also have some facility projects going on for the gutter replacement on some of our facilities. And that's going on this year. And another big change to highlight is that $750,000, that was a contribution that we're doing on the Fund 21. As we receive the money from the bonds, we're taking that back. We're only doing the 4.5, which I'm

058going to be talking on the next funds. So we can go ahead and move to the next slide. So on this. I had a question. Yes. Just the question. If, for instance, we're having to contract out for a special education aid, is that salary still reflected like in classified salaries or is that reflected in somewhere else in the budget if it's for contracting for the services? Yes. So for that contracting is going to be reflected on their contract services is in the five thousands. Thank you. Appreciate it. Okay, so now that we did some cleanup on the year-end budget, we're going to go ahead and move forward to the July 1st budget and comparing the closing year that we're finishing towards the new year. So the $1.9 million increase, we're talking about the LCFF calculator,

059the LCFF funding that's due to the 8.22 COLA that I previously talked about. The reductions in revenue mainly due to the ELO grants that we are using or use already this last closing year, but we're not going to have them as they're only a one-time funds. The $7.3 million mainly is because we did get a grant this closing year for $5.6 million on learning recovery. Something to note is that on the May revise, they did mention that the state is planning to take some of that money back. We haven't budgeted any expenditures there because we don't know how much money they're going to take back. We already received the cash. We have the cash. Since we already have the cash the process that that is to follow is to set up a payable We still

060don't know until the the state adopts and signs the budget and then we also received the 1 million dollars for Arts music and instructional materials. That's the ground that used to be two million dollars They cut it in half. We have that money in cash and I know Donna's gonna be talking more about it So we're planning to use it to use those funds in the following years and something to keep in mind for those two grants specifically We received the money this closing year, right? And since we're not using it specifically this closing year, just know that those funds are going to be part of our ending fund balance. So as we move forward towards the year, it might seem that we're deficit because we're grabbing the money from the ending fund balance. Now

061increases include step and column that we have every year but also just something to keep in mind is that on the new year the budget is counting for vacancies starting the whole year for those vacancies that we have starting July through the end of the year. On estimated actuals we're only holding the last month of June. That's why you see a big, big increase because we're seeing the savings on the closing year, but now in the new year, we're hoping to get people into these vacancies. And that's why it shows an increase. And then books and supplies, other services, again, those are reduced because of all the one-time projects that we have. For example, the book adoption that we don't have this year and the facility projects as well. We also have purchase equipment for

062MOT department and we're not having that this next year so there's some reductions on that as well. Transfer out, we're reducing that one time transfer out to the other funds for $4.5 million. I know we talk about this, it's 1.5 for the JV portable project and then the other 1.5 for the locker room and then the 1.5 for the land acquisition for S. Sobrana. So just looking at a small summary, looking at the current year and three years out, this is how the budget looks like. Again, this is the first budget for the year. It is, I will say, the first draft of the budget. I already know we're going to have a 45-day. budget revision just based on the information that we've been analyzing with cabinet. So as we move forward, we are working

063on reducing that deficit spending. We are hoping that we can get more students enrolled in our district. That's really gonna help us out and just trying our best to reduce that deficit spending and trying to balance our budget. And part of that deficit spending is because money we received the year before is not being spent this year, right? Yes. There's only so much you can potentially reduce from the deficit spending, too. Yes. Really good point. So from that $3.4 million, about $1.7 comes from that one-time funds that I mentioned earlier, if it seems like it's deficits because it's there in the ending fund balance. And then the other $1.7, it is true deficit spending that we need to work on reducing. And this is just part of the ending fund balance. So we, for the

064July 1st budget, we do have our 17% reserves. And on the next year, we're going to be at 15%, and then the third year out at 3%, if we don't do something, if we don't make any changes. But as we move forward towards the year and we keep updating the budget and getting more information from the state, we're hoping to reduce that deficit. We do have that 70% which is committed and also part of the LCAP ending fund balance. Again, this is an estimate from next year LCAP fund balance. Compensated absences, as you know, we keep having increases on special ed. You've seen the contracts coming in and staff that we need. And also we put some money aside for other increases like CalPERS, taxes, and benefits. And we are required to have a revolving

065cash as well. And I'm going to go very quickly through the other funds. This is the Fun Fund. So this is where they do most of the fundraising events. They do popcorn sales, movie night sale tickets, potato sales, dance. dance tickets, t-shirt sales, and a lot of events from schools. And this is to be able to pay for field trips to the beach, to Great America. They do student incentives. They use some of the expenses for promotion events and things like the music activities and other field trips. So I have updated that number. As you can see, there is a difference. There's an increase in revenue as we're coming out of COVID. There's more activity going on. And this is based on actuals, how much cash we have as of now. So that's what we

066have. On child development, this is the contract that we have through MCOE, and they're planning to spend the full contract this year. And we are budgeting the next year pretty similar to the closing year. There is a reduction due to a local grant that we received through MCOE. And then there's also some reductions in... Salaries and benefits, if you remember, when we switched over, we still had to pay for July and August of salaries, and then they took over in September, so that's quite the difference. And everything else is pretty much on other services, which is contracting out. Cafeteria Fund, overall they're doing pretty good. They did receive a grant this year, this closing year, which is going to be reduced in the next year. That was to help out with supply chain problems. We

067did budget some increase in expenditures there, hoping they spend the grant on this new coming year. And then, of course, you see increases on step and column on the salaries and benefits. But overall, they're doing pretty good. pretty good they're going to end up with a surplus on both years. Fund 14, this is the fund where we are paying for the Santa Rita portable restroom. And we made some adjustments, and we're hoping that this project, we budget everything towards the end of this year. But as I was talking to Victor, I know that something's got delayed. So there are some appeals that we still need to keep in the budget. And as we move forward on making the next budget revision, you might see expenses moving out of this year and moving into the next

068year. This is the bond fund. As you can see, we... On the last report, we only had an estimated amount. That's the transfer that was coming from the general fund. And as we were getting ready to get some of the projects ready, we started doing encumbrances and creating POs to make sure that things were ordered on time. We did revise the budget. So the $595,766 is based on what we have encumbered and what we have spent as of now. That is the fund 21. And just to give you a little summary, this is where we're paying the shade structure for McKinnon and New Republic. We have encumbered about 300K. And there are also fees for DSA fees. There were inspections and architect fees as well for this closing year. And as we move into the

069new year, we do have money that... has been budgeted for the GB portable construction, about $2 million. Am I on the wrong fund? Yeah, back to that one. Yes. And then we also have the $2.4 million on the JG locker room that is reserved on the new year and other fees and inspections as well that we're planning to have. As we move forward and projects, I know based on the last facility meeting, they're getting delayed. We're going to start cleaning the budget as well based on the information that we receive. Okay, so this is the fun 25. And this is where we get our local revenue for local construction that's going on. Most of the fees that we have here is for the WASP. And it's pretty straightforward. That's pretty much all we spend. We

070don't spend if we don't get the money. The estimated actuals represent the cash that we have in hand as of today. So it was better than projected, which is good. It gives us more revenue, more room to make those expenses. Fund 35, this is the fund where we have budgeted. the land acquisition for S. Soprano. As you can see, the last budget, we reduced that $4 million. The $4 million number comes from the last appraisal for the land for the S. Soprano. I know that we are in need of a new appraisal. So as we get that new appraisal, we're going to go ahead and revise. As of now, as I'm closing the year, we realize that we're not going to. be able to purchase the land. So we moved those $4 million expense to

071the next new year, hoping that hopefully we get closer. But we'll keep revising as we move forward. There were some expenses on soil testing. On that fund, we also finished paying the last expenditures for the GV kitchen project. Sorry, was it can I interrupt for just a second and in regard to that at the next Wednesday board meeting can we have an update about what's going on with the Sopranos site? Thank you All right, and this is the fun 40 and this is the three million dollars remember 1.5 is for the GV locker room No backwards 1.5 is for the jungle terrace locker room and then the other 1.5 for the GV construction project And as of now, as projects get delayed, we don't have anything budgeted as the expenditures. But as you know, and

072as I was previously talking about Fund 21, it is partially funded out of the bond fund. And this is additional funds that we have set aside to be able to cover the full project. As you know. probably when it was COVID, we were estimating that it was going to be way, way less. And as we move forward, the price is double. So we have this money set aside for those increases. And those are the forms that we usually have. The TRC does a whole check complete of all the thousands and thousands of accounts to make sure that everything is balanced to the penny. And it's a clean TRC. There's more information. This time on the board agenda, I did put a summary of the MYP, which it's a summarize of this over 100 pages. So

073hopefully it was easier for you. And I do have a budget summary that I typed for you and all of the budget assumptions from the states. So hopefully that was easier to go through instead of going this probably 200 pages. Thank you. Yeah, thank you for the presentation. So it's interesting each year to budget for a school district because even projections depending on what COLA is and one-time funds and grants and when the money gets spent. I know I've been starting to keep track of every one that I get like this and even the projections kind of our deficit spending changes from year to year depending on what grants came in. Yes. Any questions or comments from the board? Just impressed as always. I'm just incredibly grateful to you and your staff for the hours

074and hours you put in and the way that you work together to align our LCAP goals so that we're maximizing the dollars spent on kids. So thank you. Thank you. Okay. At this time, I'd like to close the hearing at 726. Thank you. Thank you so much. Okay, moving on to item 9.1, approval of the annual declaration of need for fully qualified educators for school year 2023-2024. Thank you. This is an annual document that is required for us to submit to CTC along with any of our applications for emergency permits for teachers that we intend to hire next year. Motion to approve. Second. Roll call. Ms. Turner? Aye. Ms. Arellano? Aye. Mr. Sandoval? Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Okay, item 9.2, approval of MOU between Santa Virginia School District and CSEA for the new job descriptions

075for special education behavioral aids. Thank you. I'm excited to be able to bring this item to you, as is Melanie. We've been working with CSEA on this job description for several months, but our goal... As we have seen an increased need for behavior technicians that we have been contracting over the years would be to replace those contracted services with our own employees and grow our own support team here. So this is the job description which we have proposed, negotiated, and agreed upon along with CSCA. Okay. Thank you both for your work on that. First, thank you. Thank you to CSCA. Thank you for the SPED department. I just appreciate people taking care of kids, and I look forward to the day, again, that we are able to hire our own people. So motion to approve.

076Second. Okay, roll call, please. Ms. Turner? Aye. Ms. Arellano? Aye. Mr. Sandoval? Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Okay, item 9.3, approval of new one full-time employee or one full-time each special education behavioral aids. Yes motion to approve ten potential new special education behavior late. Can I get a second second? Okay roll call please Turner. Hi miss Arianna. Hi, mr Sandoval. Hi motion passes 3-0 came in for approval of dates and positions control and slash elimination of positions Okay, in collaboration with Rosa and Debbie in our business department, HR looks at position control frequently. These positions either are vacant or will be vacant after June 30th, and they are not positions that we're intending to fill for the next school year. So in order to maintain efficient budget or position control, it's recommended that they are. eliminated

077and if ever we needed them again we would bring them back to you for approval. Motion to approve. Second. Okay roll call please. Ms. Turner. Aye. Ms. Arellano. Aye. Mr. Sandoval. Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Okay item 10.1 approval of Solient. Is that how you pronounce it? Correct yeah. Behavioral aids contracts for extended school year sped summer school. Perfect. So it's just like it sounds. It's a contract for our behavior aides as well as a few paraprofessionals to be able to support our extended school year summer school for our special education classrooms. Motion to approve. Second. Okay. Roll call. Ms. Turner. Aye. Ms. Arellano. Aye. Mr. Sandoval. Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Okay. Item 10.2, approval of Boca Grande speech therapy. Perfect. So this is a renewal. We've had this speech pathologist with us for two years.

078So she'd be going into her third year with contracted services. She's currently at La Jolla. So that's what this contract is, is for a speech pathologist. Motion to approve 10.2. Second. Okay, roll call. Ms. Turner? Aye. Ms. Arellano? Aye. Mr. Sandoval? Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Okay, 10.3, approval of Stepping Stones SLPs. SLPA and BT. Perfect. So this is a contract for one bilingual speech and language pathologist, as well as a speech and language pathologist assistant, as well as a behavior aid, all coming to us from Stepping Stones Group. And these are continued. We've been contracting with this company and had several providers through them. Motion to approve 10.3. Second. Okay, roll call. Ms. Turner? Aye. Ms. Arellano? Aye. Mr. Sandoval? Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Okay, 10.4, approval of Soliant contract for ESY, summer school paraprofessional.

079This contract's one I actually added late in the week last week, just trying to fill summer school positions and making sure each of our classrooms is filled to the need that it needs to be. So this is an additional contract with Saline adding an additional employee. Motion to approve. Second. Okay, roll call. Ms. Turner? Aye. Ms. Arellano? Aye. Mr. Sandoval? Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Okay, item 10.5, approval of good fellow paraprofessionals for ESY summer school. A lot of summer school positions. This is one I also added late in the week last week. We unfortunately had several employees not be able to... work summer school, so this is for two paraprofessionals through Goodfellow who we probably recognize the name contract with for a lot of our occupational therapy and para service provider needs. So that's what

080this is, is two additional positions to support our classrooms. Motion to approve. Second. Okay, roll call. Ms. Turner? Aye. Ms. Arellano? Aye. Mr. Sandoval? Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Okay, Adam, 12.1, public hearing for the 2023-24 LCAP and LCAP budget over for parents. 11.2, we had the KSPW presentation, but... Sorry, I missed that one. That's the approval. It's it's yeah, just the approvals like it. Oh, thank you for catching that 11.2 approval of KCW media campaign proposal So you saw the presentation this is the approval for that contract motion to approve second roll call miss Turner I miss Arianna. I mr. Sandoval. Hi motion passes 3-0 Okay item 12.1 public hearing for the 2023 2024 LCAP and LCAP budget overview for parents this time It's 732 and I like to open this hearing And I will

081go ahead and get started with our presentation for our 23 and 24 LCAP and so for 2023-2024 we're going to continue with the same four LCAP goals and what is great about these four goals is as you can see they are interconnected like the gears presented before you. The LCAP is built around the eight state priorities there before you and these state priority indicators are part of a seamless accountability system. Where we look at the qualitative and quantitative data to measure the success of the LCAP goals. Trying to stay on pace with you. Our district's LCAP is based on the number of students in the district, unduplicated count. Our current projections for the upcoming year, we're looking at 85% of our SRUSD students considered unduplicated. Thank you for all of those income verification forms that

082everybody... pulled in last year, that was great. Our LCAP goals have multiple action items. These actions are budgeted accordingly as you can see on the presentation and on the draft LCAP. Goal one has four actions. The first two you can see are funded to support professional development induction programs, coaching supports, Williams compliance needs, technology needs for students and teachers as well as supplemental science materials. Actions 3 and 4 that are under the goal 1, they support school safety and our class size reduction goals. This would be 24 to 1 in our lower grades and 26 to 1 in our upper grades. Goal 2 has five actions. Actions 1 and 2 support our intervention programs as well as our ELD programs. Goal 2, action 3, that's a fun one. This supports our enrichment programs, including field

083trips, AVID, music, PE, and our athletic programs. We ensure all sites are funded so that they have the equitable athletic programs at each middle school and for our fourth and fifth grade students that are at each of our elementary schools. Goal two, action four. This is new. We are adding this to the LCAP this year. This action is a contribution to the unduplicated count of students with special needs. Over 80% of our Santa Rita SPED students are a part of the unduplicated count. Going into goal three. Goal 3 has three actions this year. The first two are for the district and site-based parent engagement and communication needs and other parent and family events. And for this school year, we have added Goal 3 Action 3, and this will support our attendance needs at the sites,

084and this is where our new attendance clerks will be paid and funded under. And goal four, we added this last year and it's been well represented today. This first supports equity, the first action supports equity and inclusion and provides professional learning opportunities for district staff and parents and families with a focus on critical self-awareness, implicit bias, and relationship building to enhance. anti-bias and anti-racist systems and policies. And based on survey results, we will be working with our community partners and conduct an equity audit district-wide this coming year. Goal 4, Action 2, and this action supports our restorative practices and all of our alternate suspension needs and programs. One of the changes coming up this year is adding an extra restorative practice leads to each of our sites and to support that program. Goal 4, action

0853 supports our class our classroom counselors, our school counselors, our social workers and our behavior threat assessment. Going into next year we will be having a behavior threat assessment training that will be offered to all of our district staff. Our one-time grants And we've been busy with our one-time grants. And all of these support all of the goals and actions of the LCAP. So every one-time grant action that we fund, we make sure it aligns somewhere in one of the goals or actions of the LCAP. Going into our one-time grant. We have a new one that I'm presenting for you tonight. It's called the Arts Instructional Materials and Music Grant. And again, it's on your board agenda tonight. This grant will support a variety of programs and provide professional development opportunities to our teachers. Earlier

086this year, as Rosa mentioned, this was cut by 50%. And this is a $1 million grant that we'll plan actions will start for the incoming school year. Update on the ESSER III. We were spending it nicely. The ESSER III grant also supports the goals and actions of the LCAP, and it's currently being used to support the funding of our summer academy. The ELO grant, we've almost expended this. We're very excited to have this fully spent and this has been a valuable resource to provide the extra funding for our professionals to work the additional hours and support our intervention programs. And the Educator Effectiveness Grant. That supported our diverse range of very, very many that we've had professional development opportunities, as you see listed there, this last year and going forward. Currently, we have 24, 25

087teachers, paraprofessionals, as well as Melanie attending the Science of Reading, and the extra hours are paid under, the professional development hours are paid under this particular grant. And as Rosa mentioned, we have a couple other grants that we'll be building plans for and bringing to you in the coming school year. Do you have any questions? And the draft will go to final board approval for adoption on June 28th. I have a question and then I have a comment. My question, we had talked about doing a review of the... online tutoring that we were paying for just to see like the usage of it and what was going on and I remember that it they were we couldn't lose money on it because they weren't going to charge us unless we filled up the hours but

088I was just curious about this student use and a follow-up on that at some point. I will bring it to the 24th. We can definitely do that. So that was my question. And then my comment, I was thinking about it because you were talking about Goal 4 just to let everybody know that I did reach out to Summer earlier this week. I had a thought in my head because we were talking about... indigenous people that if we could reach out as part of goal four to you know the Esalen the Ohlone like the the local groups here and make sure you know how are we serving their students and then even beyond that whether it's their students or not how are we educating our children about you know the first peoples in our own community

089I am a real fan of goal four I'm so excited that we added it and just you know how can we continue to add layers to it and I started that reach out I don't have an answer, but I started the reach out. Well, just a little transparency that I made that call. Any other questions? No, mine is just, I do like the direction we're going and the way the goals are kind of formulating each year. So just appreciate the presentation and the direction that we're going as a district. Thank you. Okay. At this time, do you have any comments? No. At this time, I'd like to close the hearing at 741. Thank you, okay item 12.2 approval library furniture for John with Gettys middle school and send a reader let me show I can

090handle this one. Don is getting settled It's like it says we need some new library furniture It's getting kind of old some tables are bowing in and some seats are kind of past their prime And so we need to purchase some new furniture for the two schools in the greatest need motion to approve Second. Okay, roll call, please. Ms. Turner? Aye. Ms. Arellano? Aye. Mr. Sandoval? Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Okay, item 12.3, approval of disposal of surplus obsolete materials and furniture. And this is absolutely for our library furniture and other furniture and obsolete items that are listed on the item for you to approve for this disposal. Okay, can we go? Motion to approve. Second. Okay, roll call. Ms. Turner? Aye. Ms. Arellano? Aye. Mr. Sandoval? Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Okay, item 14.1, our next

091regular board meeting will be June 28, 2023, and of course we have our special board meeting on June 24th. Item 14.2, suggested future board items. I have two items. One is, I know we weren't able to this year, I know you guys were testing the equipment, but as far as maybe setting up a... calendar of having our mobile board meetings. And I do appreciate the technology side. So even when we do that, if we can test it out, I was watching a Hartnell board meeting and you couldn't understand what people were saying to the quality. And I was like. Really disappointed because they're a City College and they didn't have the technology just to be able to hear us speaking. So I do appreciate that whatever needs to get done. So that's the public's way

092of participating is watching the meetings online. The other item, I know in the past people have brought up as far as cross guards. And I know that we can't provide cross guards if the street is not connected to our school site. I know in the past, and we found this out searching randomly with Andrew being on the city council, that the city of Salinas used to have cross guards. In the past, so I don't know how that works with our funding. We can maybe in the future creates into a partnership or where we put up a portion of the funding and they hire The cross guards for any areas that we might be kind of a higher impact I'm thinking I like the Santa Rita in certain areas and I would appreciate any support I've

093reached out to them and they've told me that they no longer hire that position So I don't know whatever support we can get to do that. I'd be happy to work with whoever but yeah in the conversations I've had I've reached out about shared funding or contracting and was told that the city no longer offers that position. Oh perfect I think what I'll do is I know I spoke to Andrew about it but maybe I'll go speak at a city council meeting and say hey our district is on board to trying to figure out how we can bring this kind of back and then kind of go okay awesome thank you. Any other report items? Okay, it's this time. It's 744. Can I get a motion to adjourn? Motion to adjourn? Second. Okay, roll call.

094Ms. Turner? Aye. Ms. Arellano? Aye. Mr. Sandoval? Aye. Motion passes 3-0. Have a nice evening, everybody.
