Gracias por su atención. Good evening and please join me for the Pledge of Allegiance. Now we're going to recognize the land. The Sanibel School District is located on the ancestral land and without concessions from the Mueco-Aholone tribe, who has honored and taken care of this land peacefully for thousands of years. We recognize that all members of the Sanibel community continue to benefit from the use and occupation of this land. We recognize our responsibility to learn from the wisdom of the Ohlone people and to consider how we can work to repair injustices and move forward together in a honorable way. having said that we need to approve
the agenda is number two before approving if there is anyone who has a comment only in reference to number two that you will see in the act we can accept comments online or if not in person if there is no comment we will make a motion to accept the agenda as it is I make a motion to accept the agenda I second very well everyone who wants to approve if they can express that they are in favor if we have everything that is that they are in favor we will move on with the first issue We will have the general public comments after this session that we will do. It is possible that we will have comments after the study session. Those who have comments will have the opportunity to present them later. It will
probably take an hour. We will continue with the study session. Teresa, today we will All right, good evening everyone. Thank you. Awesome. So briefly reviewing the agenda for tonight. at the end of this session, we will talk about the type of work that needs to be done, that is pending. We will briefly review the priorities of each of the educational collaborators that we have, thanks to the surveys we did in 2020 of the leaders in Sunnyvale. We will briefly see a financial summary and we will do a brief exercise. um We are going to present a list of projects. We have enough information about the registrations of the facilities to determine which schools are going to be the priorities and which schools are going to start. No action is going to be taken. The master
plan is not going to be modified tonight, but when we present additional projects, we can make updates. All right, so February, in March of 2022, um Yeah, summer 2025. now tying that into our strategic plan um I'm very happy that we're going to be able to achieve other achievements following this strategic plan. We wanted to highlight these two goals of the strategic plan. uh or that they are accountable for. As I mentioned, um the environment that's in the school, the acoustics, the lighting, how the space feels for the students and the staff that's in the classroom. We have a lot of information about how that affects students, the space environment, how the campus feels, how it's maintained. When you are the leader of the campus, you can be proud of the campus as well. Schools
are maintained more by students who want to be in the facilities of their school. And the people in the community, the people want to be part of a school that looks good and that's working well. All of those are components that we take into account when we're doing this type of analysis. um as a very good for as a very good for um Mantenimiento y modernización. Reconfiguración. Imagínense un edificio con 30 aulas. Podemos cambiar el espacio, o sea, las paredes que están, usar ciertos espacios para otros motivos, por ejemplo. safety and security i wanted to highlight this component because when you think about safety and security you think about the locks on the cameras the things that can keep people out or the stuff that can make people go to school or not uh one
of the things that district staff took from the april update was that we wanted to try to accomplish projects at every campus. we can make a lot of improvements. but i'm going to read it word for word but we wanted to bring them to the table so they can take it into account. During this process we sent a lot of surveys to each educator and also to the community members. We wanted to make sure we highlighted these points. In 2023 the first three priorities we had were the reconfiguration of classrooms, science, arts and optional classes. Correct. This is me, but I want to ask, what does access to the power mean? That is, to have additional outlets in the classroom. It's not about the bathrooms, it's about what's inside the classroom. But you'll see the
user groups of the actual classrooms have much different priorities compared to the community. students top priority i should have asked the students before we slide but i'll talk about the priority for students who play in the community parents and community that's a priority for us as a school learning environment by moving to the other side of the building uh los recolectamos y las primeras prioridades que tenemos para este año son la modernización y el mantenimiento, la seguridad, los baños y el acceso a enchufes. in total 210 votes for all the leaders of this district. As part of the update in April, we reviewed the financial information. Coming out of the two-story building, we were going to have about $9 million after the measure was approved.
I wanted to include this because this is something that we often talk about when we're building our budgets for our projects. It's all the costs associated with the work we do in each school. We take this information, we take it into account to be able to give a budget of how much it's going to cost, also taking into account that these costs can vary in the future. Algo que quiero decir es que Sanibel Middle School iba a costar $100,000 en 2022. Después de construir y acabar ese programa, llegamos a $111,000. Entonces, tenemos esos costos que tenemos que tomar en cuenta. now this this is
where i think i lost a lot of schools and so i guess i don't mean um the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the
budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget, the budget and we have the capacity to see what it will be like in the future as well. So something that started in 2021, now we'll see how much longer it will take now that we're in 2024. When we focus on equity, in terms of the projects, we need to see what is the most important priority. We're going to review all this information to decide which schools we're going to focus on later because that allows us to take a very analytical approach. um um or is it just a testing or a percentage of middle school, or is it just a cost to the county? This is not a cost to
the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to
the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. This is a cost to the county. So, there you see that it's talking about $100 million. Let's see, what's being asked is how much has been spent so far. So, $100 million, so the total would be until 2022. So, has that been spent or is there still money left? The final column on the right shows how much those projects cost in the 2022 dollars. What we did was we considered the total of this column and we decided that in the end it will cost $111 million. dollars. That number of a million dollars for the recreation and anything that's at the middle school level, that's it, right? Yes, that's it. Are there any
other columns like that? Very good question. So Ellis, for example, we were doing the master plan, but Ellis already had a contract and you're going to see that Bishop to address in the next 10 years. Now, what you don't see in these numbers, because this is a master plan, are things like we've updated those campuses, we've done a lot of modernization, we've done a lot of modernization, and we've pulled out a lot of new stuff. Of course. Okay, so that is... the presentation this is um each board member will have 10 votes that they can pass on to the committee that is thought about site utilities is a top priority for the remaining votes And seven votes on that topic. You'll have about three votes left after the public services. I think we were going
to try to determine a maximum number of votes. So yeah, my question that was... Yeah, my question that was... I'm guessing none of us are going to vote. I mean, we still need to review the information to know. Of course, it wouldn't be fair. I mean, it's not going to be like this, that there's only one person who cares about one of the components. We all care about each component. Yeah, and then I want to follow up on that one. Okay. Yeah, I'll follow up on that one. Before we get started, can we define some of these concepts? Yes, of course. I was curious, one of the slides we see here, you are in the slide we saw earlier. Can you clarify that? I'm sorry, I have a question to clarify how we are going
to do it. I mean I'm almost each okay in a second on that is a nivel middle school Thomas estamos hablando de la entrada al estacionamiento bueno es más una pregunta mas como para que aclarar si bueno vamos a hacer los comentarios es el momento de hacer los comentarios publicos sobre este tema en específico que se encuentra en la agenda So if there's anyone in the audience who has a comment or a question about the master plan of facilities, please raise your hand. We have six cards, three that are in person and three that will be online. We're going to start with the people that are here. How many do we have in total? We have six? No, we have eight. podemos dedicar unos 24 minutos no dos dos minutos y medio para cada comentario
vamos a tratar de hacerlo dentro de unos 25 minutos así que vamos a empezar con la primera cate katy ron que viene de san miguel por favor si para hacer esta pregunta tiene dos minutos y medio hola yo soy madre de este distrito gracias a todos for the work that you've done and the leadership and for trying to engage the community to know what the community's desires are. I want to thank you for the efforts to promote this inclusivity. I wanted to talk about prioritizing access to bathrooms with gender inclusivity in each school in this district. I feel like there's a emergency and not only because a gender neutral bathroom is required for 2027 but because you care about the experiences of students in your district. According to the law, any bathroom must have gender
neutral. inclusive and also provide space for gender inclusive staff. We have problematic solutions that can affect our transgender students and gender diversity students. Having to use the bathroom inside the office excludes students. Having to use that space to go to the bathroom requires students to justify the way foreign uh Yeah, our next commenter. um um I don't know. um and there are a lot of requirements and many avenues of learning. There are some very good programs that would give us this opportunity to meet those needs of the students who maybe don't have it yet, speaking of equity, anti-racism, to see if we have opportunities to create plantels that will cultivate joy and inclusion. singing to order is brown thank you hi my name is Veronica Brian I am a move on a branch a Padre
Madre de dos Innocent who in who to say San Miguel gracias por la presentación y gracias brand um I think that has tangible things that we can do in terms of practices that we can manipulate in the facilities, that is, food services for the game area is safe, accessible, there are water sources, etc. That is, more access to nature that helps mental health. So, students can experience an inclusive environment with bathrooms that are generally ambiguous, that include all the genres. Many times when I hear the word equity, I see what has already been done. It is something that really offers equality. Thank you. is I'm also part of the PTA in Bishop. For the last two and a half years, I've worked with voluntary parents and students to revive our school garden. I hope you
consider incorporating the gardens as much as possible into the Master Plan for Insolvency. is also a very important part of academic and socio-emotional development. Research shows that time spent in the environment is also a way to achieve greater success. foreign an awareness of where there's plants and creating empathy for the plants and better feelings based on their environment. And so that these plants are not going to die. It brings a lot of environmental stewardship and it's a very good way to develop the students develop a sense of responsibility and a sense of understanding of sustainability and nutrition. They learn that their actions matter and that they can impact the planet in a positive way with their actions. i believe there's an urgent need to um se debe eliminar de poner a pasto artificial es no
es sostenible ni ni ecológico y va a ser las escuelas más fuerte más calientes y más peligrosos para convertir todo el es los superficies a pasto then there's 117 million with these same grant programs also to create green spaces for the kids, which will connect the kids with the natural plan, heat action plan, backed to the climate, uh We are mitigating the impacts of extreme heat and pollution and students can explore their environment safely. Please remove that declaration of putting artificial grass because it has nothing to do with a healthy environment and sustainability. This would be a very good opportunity to teach students. okay um i'm courtney jensen and I was surprised to live in Sunnyville. The kids were inside for so long, so now what do you do? The kids are outside more, more
time. Also, what else do I want to say? I mean, the program 1,000 Hours Outside, is that they're going to spend 1,000 hours outside every year. That would be almost three hours a day. My daughter in Minnesota, um the minute we el césped artificial you repeat allah sugerencia de liminar no visto photos de esto estado en el plantel de san miguel empatía de juego después de gracias y no hay mucho mucha sombra entonces cuando vemos los plantel incluso el santo de la escuela de san ifemero por favor eliminen la céspeda oficial en en todos los los espacios debe ser un espacio verde debería ser un espacio verde no pintado verde enton It would be very fun if the students painted some walls in each school. Thank you very much for your time and that's it.
I think there are two people online. Gita and then Alex Calder. Gita has two and a half minutes. Thank you so much for the presentation. I went through that and I noticed some similarities with the time that we had with the other students. foreign and security in schools and I also see the master plan and I saw that many students prioritize bathrooms as something they would like to change. We know that 80% of the LGBTQ community are neurodiverse. We must understand that these restrooms are a big concern for the LGBTQ community. um is Thank you. Can you chat with him to find out like through the chat? Can you try one more time? Intentalo de nuevo. We cannot hear you at all. How's that? There we go. Okay. Sorry about that. Confusion between microphones. My
name is Alexander Calder. My name is Alexander Calder. I have a first grader at San Miguel. I think most of my contemporaries have ever been to my college. But my concern is primarily at this level, which is called and the installed artificial turf. But in services that they chose, and that's the option. feel like that should have been i think that's awesome But if we're going to put grass out, there's a lot of grass in it. I can't understand putting out plastic. As someone else pointed out, the kids are hiding under the sliding sand, Miguel, when it's 18 degrees out. Because it's uncomfortable for me in that environment with the free-diving that I'm in. i don't have I can't express it well. Please change it. And I give the floor to everyone else who is
working very hard. And thank you very much for your work. Thank you to all the parents. maybe give it more consideration because i don't think anyone there is actually qualified to make a serious decision about the artificial grass and i think guys will do a little report or read i honestly haven't seen you guys ever supply any of the seeds i saw off your board days ago parents received some recipes and that i do look forward to you guys receiving them okay thank you and with that and with that we are moving to 3a question okay um is It was obvious to me that I would like to explore this a little more. If we mark something, the priority is a specific concern, that is reflected. That is what we want to say as a
bathroom. Or areas of play, areas of play outdoors. That is a concern that I have. Another thing is, we also don't have an understanding about cost and then shift what our top three would be and whether we can meet the cost. so for the first question um for example, restrooms. Yeah, so that's a good one. So, restrooms, I'm still working here and in the facility assessment report, I'm still working for modernizing or remodeling the indefinite session, the seven, sorry, the seven, the with outdoor running spaces and school. Fourteen. So a little bit of both. So you can go through some of the data. What is a national area? A national area? A national area? Most of the each campus. Also, the master plan is a very developed and needs um helpful um so so there
wouldn't be any overlap I was about to say, there's probably some overlap. And I know that some of the specific projects that each campus has, but I don't know if we expressed something where it would fall in between or how it would fit. I think it would be between 14 and 15. I think she had it. Yeah. And then the other area is. And then the other area is. Those are the big ones. i'll stress that two ways and our there's something about this so in regards to timeline for this project we have a $60 million projects in three years which is something that's really impressive compliment to the team that for these next projects we would be like um Correct. This is exactly what we're supposed to take in. So for instance, I wrote
down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of
different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. I wrote down a couple of different things. Okay, thank you so much. um um So we had conversations and I thought it was... So I was surprised because I wasn't there. And it's possible that I'm wrong, but I think we already had this conversation to tell the truth. I would have to check my notes because I don't remember. It's possible that it's something we talked about at the end of the process the last time. I think it was in April. is It's a middle school. It's a two-story building, and in that building, there's a bathroom with gender neutrality in that same
building. So, it's not far from the campus. Yeah, well, I just wanted to think about that before we vote. I have a lot of questions. I don't think I can answer them all right now, but for now, I want to ask, what is our legal obligation? a base de las leyes estatales para el uso de baños con neutralidad de género. En el 2026, cada escuela necesita un baño con neutralidad de género que está disponible para los estudiantes. Y la ley nos dice que debe tener la misma accesibilidad que los demás baños. Entonces, ¿eso cómo va a ser para nosotros? ¿Estamos hablando de eso en este momento? is something that we're going to do anyway. Yes, I had the same question as well. It's different though because we did talk in April. We said in April,
we had said at that time, I think the question is because it should be one of our priorities if it's something that we're already on the way to do. I mean, why do we need to have it as a priority if we're already doing it anyway? Because I don't want to waste my vote if it's something that we're already doing anyway. Yes. We were talking about the laws and we were talking about the other thing we were talking about is we have to think about other ways to improve the experience of the bathrooms for all students. And that is what we are talking about is a multi-organizing approach. What we are talking about is a multi-organizing approach. What we are talking about is a multi-organizing approach. What we are talking about is a multi-organizing approach.
What we are talking about is a multi-organizing approach. What we are talking about is a multi-organizing approach. What we are talking about is a multi-organizing approach. What we are talking about is a multi-organizing approach. What we are talking about is a multi-organizing approach. What we are talking about is a multi-organizing approach. What we are talking about is a multi-organizing approach. What we are talking about is a multi-organizing approach. What we are talking about is a multi-organizing approach. What we are talking about is a multi-organizing approach. What we in which both children and girls can access. There are two different paths. One is to say, well, it's okay, but another way to do it is to go beyond what is necessary, which is also another option we can make. So if you want it more than
the checkbox, you can put a sticker on it. Yes, of course. If you want more than what is necessary, more than what the state forces us to do, you can mark that option. those bathrooms have been a priority in so many aspects of our work. I mean, yeah, okay. Of course, I could put all my votes there. The other thing is that I had a question specifically about the columns that are about language, the square. Does that number take into account? It does. all the details and so, looking at the master plan for the facilities, what you're going to see is in the parking lot, there are funds for the parking lot. Depending on the school, it could be the same space in each school, but there could also be two different spaces and I
think those two spaces are within the same category because but that's something that we're not necessarily going to see in the square, but it's a separate space. I know, and it's, and I would say it is tough, right? Like, we're trying to find a whole project, so some get lumped in the, like, 17 categories, so it's difficult. And then it's just something that I've learned in, like, whatever people have heard of that, like, like, you know, like, you know, like, you have the kids that are in the office and the parents that are in the cafeteria because they don't have that security because they don't have that security. Is that a thing? Is that a thing? Well, we can put a little dot and then determine where we're going to put the votes. I think
that's all I have. I have more questions, but well. I understand that you said we're not going to modify the document tonight, but I do want to say that since it's an update to the master plan for facilities, It's a document that can be modified according to the needs. We need to take into account the comments, the perspectives, and we need to update as we go through the projects. We need to keep talking about them. For example, what we talked about on the artificial land in the recreation patios. I think the board approved the use, but it was a little bit of a doubt in making the approval. It only approved it because it's the best decision for now under those game structures, but that doesn't mean that I really want to see an artificial
turf in my school. It only means that it was the best option. I know that in the new building in SMS, there's artificial turf laid out in there. I really don't want to walk in there and see more and then the architect said, well, it's in the master plan, so it's something we're going to use because it's on the list of things we can use. So I think that as we continue to talk about these issues, if there's a signal from the table that we're, and I don't know if this is something unanimous throughout the table. But we do know, we appreciate the artificial land solution, you know, at the same time, it's not going to cause head trauma, it's not going to be a serious, safe trauma for the kids, if they fall, for
example, we understand the value. But it's not perfect, but it's the best option we have for now. And I think these structures, I know we're not trying to change things in an incremental way, but we're going to keep learning things, getting new information from now on. So I personally think that what I would like to see is a change in the way we think about um Is there a mechanism if this is not the time to amend the facility? and we don't know if it's something we really want to implement. So the decision needs to be made on February 27th at the board meeting. It's Valentine's Day, right? The other meeting on February 14th as well. The board would have an opportunity to review and talk about these elements. and on January 16th we could
start talking about that as a table and we could present options. That's something I want to propose for the table. I do want to say that...
a gender neutrality bathroom in their office. So it's something that was already there. And we talked about it. So it's not part of the plan. I don't know. I would like to modify that declaration on artificial land because if I accept our decision to use it for that specific structure, But I don't think it's something that I want to be available for any school. I mean, at some point in the future, the staff, I mean, the plans can change. But that's another thing. We also thought it was clear that it was a necessity for the playground. I thought it was a necessity for the playground because you have to take safety into account first. And so we wanted to limit, I mean, we talked a lot about that. And at SMC, I mean, I see
the need in particular. because they're going to try to climb, climb a tree, for example, and it's a matter of safety. But what we're saying is that for February, we're going to take a decision specifically on CMS. That's the only thing they're saying. And we're also going to wait for the city to finish its studies that it's currently doing so that we can have those studies as a reference. I don't know if they're under other game structures. I know we have them in another school. But I think these studies on artificial land are specifically for children. A few more things. For the playgrounds, I just wanted to say, I know Veronica in her comment, Well, I'll tell the, the general gave this to put a pass on barrio sitios, but it's a different day. So,
but I'll tell you, it's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing. It's a very good thing I
think that for children who are using game structures and only allow one structure per group, it's a structure for your age group. So if that game structure has a problem, it's a problem for all of those kids. So even if we're thinking of just one game structure, is a problem for everyone. So when we talk about the recreation patios, we're talking about the repairs and maintenance of the recreation patios. We're talking about what we talked about in the previous meeting, which is the idea that, like, We need greener spaces in schools. Think a lot about the Waldorf model. Have this magic, like Montessori schools. To answer your question, it would be the previous question. Replace the playgrounds that are no longer in use. If we talk about a affordable playground that is more accessible for
all students and also to include students with special needs, we also talk about the importance of the green, even though that number doesn't reflect that conversation. We need... So you have to think about that when you're voting. Let's say that playgrounds are a priority. The priority would be the modernization of playgrounds. And the work environment and the experiments, the board can think about that. Thank you, Rebecca. Thank you. Yeah. So and then one more point. Anything else? dots because we can't have the maximum number of dots we can have because we have done it in different ways. I think last time we changed the maximum number of dots we could use because there was someone who used all the dots and it was a little confusing. So instead of taking turns making check marks, nobody
was taking turns and marking one by one. O sea, podemos hacer como palomitas al lado en lugar de puntitos para que quede más claro. O sea, la mejora que más les convenga. Yo solo necesito la información, así que lo demás depende de ustedes. A mí no me importa. ¿Cuál es la recomendación de usted? ¿Cinco como mucho? If you need to think about more than one priority, you have to think about more than one priority. Because all priorities are important. Before you vote, any questions about, people have asked some of these, but do anyone have any? We'll do a list of one through 17. Before you vote, when we're reviewing the list of one through 17, I just want to know if there's any questions before you vote. Absolutely need to get fixed. Like are there
any risks? Is there anything like that? I mean, if we don't do it, it's a big problem. If we have a danger, it's a big threat to the library. So we need to take that into account. So what about the fires? In Lakewood, in the library, there are... um no sería construir nueva ala solo por hacerlo no sería por ejemplo votar o sea lo de cuando hay un edificio portátil por ejemplo lo queremos reemplazar queremos reemplazar las aulas que están que necesitan modernización porque en chériches por ejemplo en san miguel o sea el que va a pasar con los edificios portátiles um so cherry chase has nine and yes cherry chase um I mean, he wanted to make that a reminder. And we had also started talking about equity, equality. The framework of this is
that we are an equitable district, an equity-based district. Equity is for school facilities. equity within the facilities. We're not necessarily talking about equity in student learning necessarily. We're saying that we want all facilities to be equitable. If a game structure in one of the schools is in a very bad state, we have to prioritize that game structure. I mean, just even like the, I can't believe we're talking about the bathrooms. not the newer improved version. It's just like everyone needs a place to use the toilet. and there should also be a pipe underneath the ground for the drainage, for example. It's a bit boring, but at the same time, it's necessary to take that into account. We have to mark that, and if we don't mark it, we're still going to do it. So it's
about how urgent these things are. That's what he's saying, it's going to happen anyway, even if we don't mark it. But it depends, we're marking it to have an emergency level. So after that, there's going to be about $115 million, more or less, $115, those are the funds we're going to have. We're going to look for... more funding in the car, but it's the funding that we're going to have. So the votes, the prioritization that we're going to have will just inform what we're going to do first until we no longer have more funding. So we have to think in that frame, taking into account that that's the amount of money that we currently have. Yeah, so it's everything from the security, the cameras, the digital markers, the doors, the doors with a key. And
having a covered space is no longer for the roads. Yes, 10 please. 10. What are physical education facilities? I imagine those are locker rooms at the... I saw on the slide there was some... I was heading into the site. That's just me. Thank you. Hey, if you don't got a working shoe, what are you going to do? Numbers numerical value No Sorry. I'm assuming it has time back to like the gym somehow. But so what I can do is I can go back and see like what job people have. I'm just kidding. It's not. I don't think it's going to happen. That's true. Yeah. Thank you. Yeah, my sister's in Minneapolis. I Oh Yeah. I I wasn't sure if I was allowed to come up here, but I wanted to say hi. How are you
doing? Good. I'm Mike. Yeah, I think we've met close enough before. I had a tiny bell break. Oh, okay. I'm Elizabeth. I'm from the Center for Pop. Oh, that's right. Okay. Good. Yeah, thanks for being here. Yeah, this is my first time in the room. You guys are doing your meetings, so it's a lot easier just watching the screen. Okay. I have just great view from the camera right here. Where do you live? I live in Redwood City, but most of the time I live in Greenville. That's where I live. Okay. That's why I said, people come here with me. Yeah. At night it is. It is, yeah. I mean, that's kind of the benefit when I start getting a lot. I think we could be a five-minute ticket back home. So from here at
this time today, 30 minutes. Did you or someone from your office at the Be Our Guest event today? Silicon Valley Council for Nonprofits? Be Our Guest. Oh, okay. Well, the senator's name was... Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So they do it annually. It's the Council for Nonprofits. So all the nonprofits from the county, I guess, go and do their awards. And then the fun part is everyone comes and decorates pumpkins, and then they auction them off, and they're both done. That's how it goes. Yeah, I guess so. But mostly it's their award ceremony. Oh, that's really cool. I don't know if we've done the music. It's kind of fun. Find out if someone is actually there. I feel like if they said our name is from across the room, we're pretty good about it. There's a couple hundred people there. They do it at the Center of the Giants. Oh, really? Yeah, they used to do it indoors and then COVID happened and they didn't care. And they're
like, oh, this is kind of fun. set up tables in the outfield and then they have you ever been to a boob now yeah they have a great outdoor barbecue set up so it's barbecue you know it's fun cool that's awesome Yeah, everyone will be glad when the election is in. We'll see how the voting is going. Yeah, nice seeing you. Yeah. Elizabeth, I think we've met once or twice before. Yeah. I think Senator Popper was. Yeah. Yes. Yes, he did. Yes. Yes, that makes sense. I think we're doing okay. I'm good, I'm out. I'm ready over there. Well, you officially made it to the end. Oh my god, I can't believe I'm here. Oh my god, congratulations. So they're like, alright, you can go now. Let me hide these. What's the thing saying? I
hate that. What are you laughing about? The squeaky? The total is as long as the total is equal to 50, we're good. Yeah. Possibly. Why doesn't anyone pick 11? I changed mine. Okay, so real quick it looks like top three are scope 14 being outdoor learning environments and quad, scope 10 being building systems, restrooms, and power access, and scope... Number one site wide modernization and deferred maintenance. Those are the top three for the exercise. We just did with the board Anybody have by the way, it's nerve-wracking. I don't know how teachers do like math in front of lots of people So double check that I'll take a picture but I think we're good. That was awesome You know, I think for me that for me that was like thinking about garden spaces but you know
outdoor hands-on learning opportunities and just really trying to you know opportunities sino para los niños que están en las clases de apoyo especializado, o sea, para que realmente puedan acceder a las estructuras de juego, eso sería fantástico. Yo quería preguntar sobre los edificios portátiles. Solo quiero saber si los edificios portátiles... Okay. very good. But there is a part for the sixth grade students that I don't know if they have it. I wanted to clarify that because as you said in the presentation, you said that if we can build more classrooms instead of portable buildings, that will contribute to the success index of the students. And now is 7.1. So for the outdoor spaces and the tech jobs, it's not just about the space, it's about the accessibility. It's not just about the structure, but also
about having additional structures. There are exciting playgrounds that have language boards in the ground, air cans, and we do have a lot of language boards in the ground, air cans, and we do have a lot of language boards in the ground, air cans, and we do have a lot of language boards in the ground, air cans, and we do have a lot of language boards in the ground, air cans, and we do have a lot of language boards in the ground, air cans, and we do have a lot of language boards in the ground, air cans, and we do have a lot of language boards in the ground, air cans, and we do have a lot of language boards in the ground, air cans, and we do have a lot of language boards in the
ground, air cans, and we do have a lot of language boards in the ground, air cans, and we do have a lot of language boards in the ground, air cans, and we do have a lot of language boards in the ground, air cans, and we do have a lot of language boards in the ground, air cans, and we do have a lot of O sea, para darle la bienvenida a todos los estudiantes, ¿no? Es un buen punto de referencia. Muy bien. Parece que estamos conectando estas dos cosas, parece, según el documento de usted también. Muy bien. Son las 7.43. Regresamos en 10 minutos para continuar. We had a good time doing our activity. But we are going to continue. We move on to topic 4, the comments from the table and the superintendent. It's 7.51.
We always start with Nancy. I liked... um a recognition for our Master of the Year. Very fun. But one thing I wanted to emphasize is that I went to Wild West. Wild West started as a fund collection. So I said, well, it would be fun to go with my son. Most of my family left and it was fun to see the space. I mean, where my son and many other kids go. We went through the woods and saw the garden. It was a very fun event. I recommend it to all of you. If you're interested, they have a garden workshop every month. Thank you so much. I was, we did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the
SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared
meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting. We did the SF squared meeting I was able to cook 100 pounds of pasta to feed the school. We wanted to have food available for the monthly meeting. We had it. I also received and collected the grant for gardening. I was going to go to Lakewood. um um it's great that our district is working with them and receiving more information about them and one thing on how we handle the homeless community is that we have a board from CineShare in Sunnyvale and the second harvest is that the second harvest is a food bank so they'll be able to provide food for the community services for the parties, but if you are interested in donating to Second Harvest Food Bank, I recommend it
because you need it. And all the comments have been delivered. It has been a very busy month. which are funded by the community service. Then, yes, I think everybody in the last couple of weeks have been meeting with different committees, success from which is the shelter. And remind everybody that We do everything we can for the Y measure. And the local board of directors association. We had a meeting last night. And some children attended and told us about their own experiences. different levels of needs and they told us what they think about the services they receive and how their colleagues treat them. So it was something very amazing to hear all that. This month, the 20 something, I know it was tomorrow, but last week. We should have it on to support our children. We
had a very nice event. We recognized Alia all day. We had the 125th anniversary and he organized everything. and I also enjoyed seeing the recognition of our Master of the Year recognized by the County. It was a very fun event, a very good video and our Master was represented. And well, I look forward to next weeks. Okay, just a couple comments. I wanted to thank Leah for her great job, especially for that day, but also during that year of 125 years. I want to thank the community. Arthur and I were talking. We appreciate the comments on the master plan. is Does anyone recognize that? Okay, good. All timers. So, one of the things, everyone who's there. Okay. Thank you. And with that, we go to the next question. Now seven comments from the audience. This
part of the agenda provides the opportunity for the audience to address directly to the table of issues that are not part of the agenda. But no measure can be taken of any issue that is not part of the agenda. So we cannot make a decision. But if we make a decision, So we are still in touch with you guys. And with that, there are five cards here and two people online. One person online. We start online. One online. Three minutes per person to get to those 20 minutes. We start with Elizabeth Baca. Hi, good evening everyone. That's a long time. We also friendly and proud. We're going to switch in right there. All right. Which one are we looking at first? Hold on. Don't worry about me. All right. I like to take lots of
photos and then I have one more. Oh boy, we've got to zoom out just a little bit. A little too close to personal. Okay. strong joy thank you thank you thank you Thank you very much. Our next speaker is Jessica Derecki from Vargas. Hello, my name is Jessica Durecki and I'm speaking for the PTA of Escuela de Vargas. I'm the president. We want to share some details about our mission, the activities we prioritize, and the amount of money we're spending. um record our dinner is the community demos podido sin quen 53 me 53 mil dólares justo no más el año pasado et año plan a moose cast our master says in the 8 mil dólares actual meant a tenemos un presupuesto de 25 mil dólares para actividades después de clases de si ocho mil para

But we know that we are not going to be able to provide the same level of support to all of you. We are going to be able to do that. We are going to be able to provide the same level of support to all of you. We are going to be able to provide the same level of support to all of you. We hope the district can work with our parent organizations to share resources throughout the district. Thank you. Our next speaker is Cathy Rowland. um um um um and if we organize community events because they are a very crucial part to serve those families who are in need of services

On a very serious note, my husband and I are taking out of the after school program. We are taking
out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school
program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of the after school program. We are taking out of 20 000 dollars a year for our program after classes we have programs with the pta monday my kid does that so i can work three and ten when i can i have to pick them up and then we go to an activity at four because my kids are different ages so there's not enough we get home at five five and fifteen which gives me about two hours to make up for it. It's the same thing. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, they're not in the special activities, so I pick them up at 2 and 10.
We bring them to another activity. We get there at 4 and a half, 5. And then I have to get back to work. Thursday, I pick them up from the PTA activity. and try and get roughly an hour and a half of work done before i go back to tv depending upon what they are doing and what i need to get done Friday's or the demand. My kids are not on any waiting list. They want to continue to need it more than my kids do, although I need it. So my ask for the district is really to invest in this and to raise whatever needs by having a regular order to support them and many others who need the support. So thank you for your time. And our next speaker is Veronica Brown. Veronica Brown.
hi again my name is veronica brand and i'm here in san miguel um no pueden ayudar en a veces a muchos pues algunas familias no y las algunas familias si o sea cuando sea las familias lo brinda a la clase si pueden si si digan que bueno yo puedo comprar un poco de clinics entonces por no tener la guía de decir no los maestros están diciendo no Hi, can you hear me? Okay, great. So, hi, everybody. My name is Susan Salop, and I'm a parent of a child with learning differences who recently... special we now have a special inclusion committee in nine of the PTAs. Pretty much both schools have PTAs. One school has a PTO. So we're set up in all of those. And I'd like to share with you what we've been doing.
The PTA special inclusion committee has great opportunities to bring together members of their general education peers and groups. We started to make love at So we go middle school called Peer Connect. Number two, we're providing a voice in the PTA to ensure that the environment is accessible, like quiet areas, sensory activities, things like that. Number three, work with staff on events of disability awareness, with different assemblies. feedback for her assembly and then some follow-up activities. second thing is inclusion efforts within the district so i understand there is an effort to increase the general education curriculum which is consistent with the state guidelines these days as you know students with iaps should be involved more in 80 percent this is an awesome development but at the same time it is important to know inclusion. So, children
with disabilities, and teachers, also students of general education, have positive experiences with inclusion. As you know, it requires a lot of effort and work. Finally, our current conversations among parents with kids with special needs, including the distribution of course-measure criteria, is staying on IEPs and moving students around the country to keep the distribution to 5 and 4. Thank you. Sorry, I went over. Yes. Sorry, I went over. Thank you. Do we have the second person? Siguiente persona. Okay. They raised their hands after we got started. Oh, okay. I thought you said two and you were two. And then they lowered their hands and then a different person. And we have three more. Oh. And then giving it up. Okay. Okay then let's move to the next. And we would like to hear what you have
to say. I think we can. I thought that was not it. You have to just do it. Jesus. Do Jesus. You can do it through Jesus. On the website. Perfect. So with that being said, we will continue with the next topic, which is number eight, the pending points. tenemos comentarios sobre este número este sería el momento para proporcionar su comentario público sobre el número 8 entonces tenemos una moción para aprobar el número los puntos pendientes y yo hago un voto para aprobar los puntos pendientes all of you can vote in favor or against. Yes, all of you are in favor. Very good. We have approved the topics as they are. We can continue with number nine, which is review and discussion. Nine, eight, review and discuss the chronology and the reason for the self-evaluation of
the board. If the table does its self-evaluation in the government meeting in November, this year, when I was talking to the president and vice president, we thought we could use the electronic self-evaluation tool that we have online. So that's the plan that we have. I think I have the dates here. Yes, November 1st and 14th. So if you can think about it, because there's a second opportunity to present it, we have to present it within that deadline. So if there's any questions about that chronology, it's a little different compared to the previous years, right? Yes, we had a Google document previously, and this year we're going to do it. If we didn't want to do it using Google, because there's a bit of self-reflection that we need to do. It's possible that we've done it
in the past in this way, but I think we didn't cover the same areas. I don't have a problem with trying to do it like that. pero si lo necesitamos hablar más a fondo ese tipo de preguntas se puede hacer ese mismo día no sí porque sé que es un proceso un poco pesado no sea tratar de hacer todo el proceso en un solo día ya no tenemos ningún comentario público al respecto se me había olvidado decir o sea necesitamos tenemos de hecho si tenemos algún comentario público en relación con el número 9 La auto evaluación de la mesa directiva. Si no, podemos continuar. Lo podemos iniciar, pero va a venir de CSEA. Si lo vamos a tener a tiempo para la reunión de gobernación. Se me olvidó la cantidad de tiempo. Okay, so with
that, are we done with this? Okay, we can continue. Yes, we can continue. Number 10, Review and Action, the approval of the School Plan for Student Performance. We have here Dr. Ashavin and our CBO, Arthur Hattie. The thing that I got out of that is, uh,
uh, the students with disabilities and the students that are learning English or can integrate the skills, seem to be the kids that are or hispanic with the children who are struggling as identified and I know that he is incorporating more support and I and i noticed that this is the candidate of most of the schools um Thank you. We need to make a motion before we start discussing. We need to make a motion before we start discussing. We need to make a motion before we start discussing. We need to make a motion before we start discussing. We need to make a motion before we start discussing. We need to make a motion before we start discussing. We need to make a motion before we start discussing. We need to make a motion before we start discussing. We need to make a motion before we start discussing.
If I understood the comment, there's a lot of background, some of the special education students, and that's what I've heard. So I just wanted to clarify that. When you look at our numbers, which is what we talk about all the time, right? The special needs students, our staff students,
proficiency. um And yes, it's something that I've been thinking about, that we need to have reports to be able to take responsibility for what we need to do. But a question to move forward, I know we've been working to make it more tangible, right? I mean, it's not too serious, but... When we look at the goals in different schools, taking into account, for example, goal number three, social and emotional learning, some of the goals, the way of saying the goal, there are two areas, the annual measurable results. And some of the schools, their goal is those numbers that come from the results. I know some of the directors don't follow the same individualized education plan. Some don't like to follow the same model. We're looking at the results, and that's the most important thing for
our students. We want to increase the number of children who have the domain, right? And if our goal is one year of improvement and a
year and a half of improvement, I actually didn't see how we were going to measure that. I don't know if that makes sense, but if we go to page 29 and 31 with the first school, Bishop, it's going to be consistent. no bueno algunos tienen más páginas y otras menos sí pero en la misma sección creo que tu pregunta se trata de eso no de cómo podemos tomar eso en cuenta no y cuando ve aquí estamos hablando tomando en cuenta la el promedio de 32% en matemáticas para todos los estudiantes y luego how we want them to improve, how we're going to measure that improvement. So when we're talking about an improvement in a year or a year and a half, that's going to be based on the specific results of the children. what the
kids need will be different for each child. That's why we have the levels of domain and the way to monitor that and respond to that is through NWEA, which is what we're using, especially to measure the level of each student. So the goal, of course, is that, of course, we want 100% of students in one year, one and a half year to improve. um There were five or more children, but let's say there were five children in Cumberland and we're going to check the performance of each child to see, well, this child has domain and the other one, well, needed so much time to improve and there's another child that doesn't have domain and needs two years. There's another child that only needed three months to improve. So at the end of the year in
Cumberland, we're going to see the same level of information for each student. That's the goal and we're working on that. So the work we need to do with the directors, the sub-directors and the leadership team is our way of responding. Right now we're using NWEA. But what other tools can we start using to have I think that's about it. to better inform our teaching practices. So for me, this is a story, it's a story, right? So I mean, but I have to start from the perspective, I mean, I have kids who are at an academic level, right? And I have kids who are at an academic level, right? And I have kids who are at an academic level, right? decreasing so they still were above proficient but If you're at the same level of grade,
we want you to improve according to what a child could learn in a year. We want you to improve a year at a time, any child. If I have a fourth grader who has a decent performance for fifth grade, do I want him to have sixth grade performance next year? Not necessarily. you know, whatever, let's say in the fourth grade you have a 60% increase. As you go through the reference points, you should see improvements that are based on your domain levels, on the content that you're learning. And that makes sense. So that's based on the reference points. I have a question about the process. How do we build this? because I know that the school boards and also the student boards that are learning English, I mean, who are the people that have put
together these documents? A combination of a team, I did it. And with a team, we support the directors at the logistical level, right? we work on that in the logistics so that the documents are connected to our most generalized goals that we have as a district. We also make sure that they are identifying the groups identified within the plan based on performance. For example, students who have enough assistance, for example, who don't have all the students, make sure that the children are, or that everything is incorporated into the plans of all the students. We also need to make sure that some of the ways of monitoring progress, we need to be realistic, because that's something that can be taken into account in conjunction with, for example, the group of advice. student or parent groups, school
boards, they need to take into account the plan draft, the details that are there to choose the best way to evaluate the children every year. So let's say, for example, the district and the school director work together to present this before the school board, then they present it in a meeting and during that meeting, that is incorporated into all of this, right? Yes, correct. So it's not something that we present. Yes, it's a lot of information. those volunteers at the school set council and I was like, oh my God, we have a lot of information. And that was so much for our work. There's quite a few nights of being here. Okay, so. Yeah, I want to thank you all for this as well because I really feel I've been so excited to hear from
you because we had a couple years where there's no comparative data, right? And it was awesome. Here's our thoughts on how we did this last year. We did see a lot of different spots for our data on the website. And now we have a lot more information and it definitely feels a lot bigger compared to last year. I think there are like a couple hundred more pages, right? And I don't know, in terms of our review, I'm sure all of these documents are going to be, they're going to be uploaded to the electronic systems of the schools, right? I understand that there's extra information in each one, I mean, how to fill out the form, for example. So, yeah, it's something I understand. but that's not all, right? I mean, it's a lot. Despite the
fact that there's a lot of information, I think what would really help me is to see, I mean, to have some very brief links about how we can interpret the CAS scores, for example. O sea y el que yo encontré cuando estaba revisando que no entendía bien es qué significa puntos por debajo del nivel de grado. En realidad, ¿eso qué significa? Así que yo encontré un enlace. And that actually showed that for the CASP tests that are above or below the grade level, if you see the ranges, that is, the distance between each score, it shrinks as the children grow, right? So, I mean, 100 points below the standard means that you're much lower compared to when you were in the sixth grade, for example. or there are 14 points between the grades or 15,
it depends. The students in the secondary school are 100 points below the grade level, a group of students. That can mean different things. But what really struck me was I went to this event in Valley Water. I went to Valley Water last week. Because Valley Water is about o sea, personas que viven dentro de campamentos, personas sin hogar. Y una de las cosas que yo noté es que una de las personas que estaban en los paneles dijo, estamos trabajando con un problema muy complejo y grande. Es abrumador, es enorme. Tenemos tiempo limitado. and we need to fail in front of the public in public spaces and we are affecting people's lives in the meantime. So I want to say that I appreciate all the improvement that we are seeing. However, I want to celebrate that.
It's important to celebrate it and the analysis that we have here makes me so grateful. I'm so grateful for the community of teachers that we have that are thinking about the problems, making a plan to address them. But it's a huge problem and I really hope that as we move forward with the plans for the future, I hope that we do some things that are a bit more radical. for example, from private and professional education, different approaches in schools, or developing ideas that really push the community forward. For Bishop, I first read about the Bishop, and I really focused a lot on that model. I read them all, but I thought a lot about the Bishop. But as it got in the order of alphabetical, I compared everything I read with Bishop because as I
started with Bishop, I compared everything else with this school. It could be done, for example, the other way around, or if not, mix a little more to, but well, for example, when I said, well, for the language performance groups, that was different. because there was an improvement, a great improvement in all groups, for example. But looking at the improvement between the Hispanic population and the white population on pages 21 and 23, the Hispanic group is red. In language arts, 75.5% were below the standards. And the white students were 5.5% below the standards. And then you resumed in a different way, 35.3%, but the Spanish group remained. There was an improvement on page 23, for example, in the Spanish group. But they increased by one point. more below, but then they increased by about 11 points
and then it increased significantly. So when I see that, I didn't see that we were talking about like, well, there could be other factors as well. But as I went through, I saw other schools that were like, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't know, like, I don't enseñanza que se adapta según las
culturas o por ejemplo inclinarse hacia los grupos de interés y el trabajo que estaban hablando en posiblemente hacer en San Miguel y luego yo pensé bueno es aquí donde me gustaría que realmente aprendamos el uno del otro y lo otro es que is we're going to check and make sure everyone's doing what they're supposed to do and we're going to check and make sure everyone's doing what they're supposed to do and we're going to check and make sure everyone's doing what they're supposed to do and we're going to check and make sure everyone's doing what they're supposed to do and we're going to check and make sure everyone's doing what they're supposed to do and we're going to check and make sure everyone's doing what they're supposed to do and we're going to check and
make sure everyone's doing what they're supposed to do and we're going to check and make sure everyone's doing what they're supposed to do and we're going to check and make sure everyone's doing what they're supposed to do and we're going to check and make sure everyone's doing what they're supposed to do and we're going to check and make sure everyone's doing what they're supposed to do and we're going to check and make sure everyone's doing what they're supposed to do and we're going to check and make sure like now that we have like our first document and you could look at it and say, well, if you're like trying to read it from a narrative perspective, what are some of the things that we're seeing throughout? like also a local monkey estamos viendo algo que
podemos decir bueno en todas las escuelas está gastando diez mil dólares en tal cosa por ejemplo y estamos dando vamos a aumentar los salarios de todos los docentes por ejemplo este año sea cosas que tienen como en cada escuela no estoy diciendo que son esas cosas pero y bueno o sea la información sobre los consultores también yo no sé si hay alguna manera de um Yes, we need to have things in common, but at the same time, no, because it must be an individualized plan for each school based on their culture, the students they serve, what the data is saying, the resources they have. I mean, something unique for each school, right? Maybe in some schools something works that won't work in other schools. So some of the things that schools, I mean, it's more
difficult sometimes to have things in common because o sea en cuanto al aprendizaje y la enseñanza hay alguien que lo puede ver porque todos los estamos viendo pero hay alguien que lo está viendo está diciendo bueno esta escuela podría beneficiarse mucho las estrategias de otra escuela por ejemplo yo no pienso que eso pase yo pienso que eso pasa todo el tiempo si desde el principio office hours where they came to the office with their principals, which would actually come through on their plans, got ideas that they liked. So my idea is that they would come through on their plans for whatever reason. So I think that's a really good point.
So yeah, I had a, so I saw at least, well, two of them called for the leadership institute that gets to the people foreign of what we are doing. So now, each teacher has received the training that we want them to do, related to the equity and anti-poverty, yes and no. So, yes in general, in addition to what it means to be a culturally sensitive teacher, but that's already at the level of the teacher, of the staff, is how to do it as part of the teaching. I mean, who are you talking to, how do you talk to them? It's more in the teaching practice to teach those concepts and we also
educate ourselves about the different communities, who they are, who they need. So really doing it student by student, using those culturally sensitive practices that are incorporated into the classrooms throughout the year. Yes, because of the last meeting, we saw the disparity between different groups. We want to change that and strengthen our practices. foreign a big part of our work. And what do you mean by that? The plan, like what is the instruction, the difference between instruction and direction and being an independent student. The instruction practices, sometimes it's struggling with it that the children are being given kids an opportunity mathematics, reading, comprehension, what he says, give them time to solve the problem and find out the details. He needs it on auditory, he needs it on learning, so they can learn it in different ways,
but we don't prohibit them from learning. so that they can continue to advance and develop. About a year and a half ago, someone who knows the Hispanic Foundation was going to do some training and money that they wanted to donate. How did that end? well what we kind of went with was the valdez math foundation is what we got from that with the Juan Valdez Math Foundation this past summer. The grants and the funding seem to be good, but when you actually get into the details and what you really have to do and what we try, it's not so effective compared to what we want to do to get the grants and to make all the steps. I have a quick comment. I think on the soft copy. I think on the soft copy. It
ends up as a mess. Okay. You're right. We should fix that. Okay. um so that there is a domain of being consistent, how to document it. I think that's just a huge... I mean, understanding the forms and understanding where they are is very important. And it has changed over the last few years, so it's very important. So I anticipate your concerns that will be addressed over time. The document itself as well, how to use the information in the document to inform practices and such. And I want to remind everyone, even if it's divided into categories, the important thing is the individual child. I'm not talking about test scores. I'm talking about the usual absentism. So, seeing the students can be helpful, but it's more about each school knowing each child by name and what they
need. That's the vehicle that's hired to document everything, the school. I understand that you know every child is unique i think the whole message is you know promise is you know that's the premise of the sonnyville i think that's right and i love that and what i'm trying to say is i feel like it's one of the few schools in lakewood and i think that the students all the students in all the groups right like um significantly significantly is that white kids increase a lot and Hispanic kids don't, and so does San Miguel. So the Hispanic community, even though we assume that they need it because they're Hispanic, but if we assume that this group of children under-serves the services, I guess we're connecting with the kids more individually. and we see the incremental changes
but they are very below the standard level, below the standard. It is a large population and it is noticeable. So what do we need to do to better serve this population? And I'm not assuming that there has been anything, but they have been identified as Spanish and it's just a number and it's a trend. cultural education. I think it's just, I mean, that's something where I would say, well, that is something that we need to focus more on. That is a cultural education for that group. I understand that part. We are not looking at the unique. We are looking at the unique. the center of the program. We don't want to assume anything because they are in a group. We want to see everybody. But after so many years of training, but on the other
hand, after the quality, we still have evidence that there are great or being children in fourth grade, for example, there are only four Hispanic children. That is still happening in that group. So that is why we always ask the question that each child is unique and we have to learn it all. We have to understand that there is a systematic problem and have the competition from top to bottom. Maybe we have to change the topics or find a new program or the people in front of the children understand everything as we want. We have to give the new materials. This question has to be renewed every year because there is data last week that we are It's very low with Hispanic students. The kids have to be in school and they're very anxious and we
should be anxious. And it's something to celebrate, but I'm also very frustrated that 60% are here, they're safe and everything in school. but another 40% know how to add, multiply, when they are many years behind. And since we are here, there are still many things to achieve. Speaking of the joint numbers of San Miguel, because San Miguel, from elementary to high school, um data was showing that um in their third and fourth year they didn't have the same performance forming about the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the
same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or the same or
the same or the same or the same impact and so i'm curious because san miguel is a monolistic approach right now the library the parent groups all the activities excursions so there are a lot of positive things but i'm wondering if there's anything we can learn from the participation you know even the curriculum of bilingual education. I know that it's not in the plan, but can I get a presentation? Is that an update or update? We can put it in the calendar. So the week on the new programs, we will see new programs again. Because the short piece is we're moving, expanding or or yeah so be hard to stay that's a good idea but yeah so it's sensitive because you have teachers there but at the same time it's a lot of that we
run stranded there are all the same parents all the same parents there are only one class there's no movement there's no movement changing of that group i mean i'm i'm really interested in if we could factor for socioeconomically education model is something that we should expand. And as Nancy said, maybe we should go to Bishop or Vargas or have another school that could be a satellite strand. So, I did ask that in the previous presentation, so that we could see Yeah, I would say that it's something that we can understand better and expand with your report in general. I think there's an interest. I mean, I don't know if it's coming from the whole table to understand that better. Multilingual education is supposed to be a topic that we should like this. direction if that
is a topic i think the tricky space is like this is the second or third and i can't fully get behind it unless i'm almost like a part of the patient like you know we tend to do that in february Yeah, we are doing great time, apparently. Well, it's supposed to be 9. But it's harder. Okay, we have, yeah. So, and with that, I think we are... I think we are... please say aye. The next meeting will be on November 7th. I thank the translators as always for the service they provide. We are very happy to have them. The next meeting will be on November 7th. It will be at 6 p.m. an ordinary meeting. Good night. It's 9 and 15. Thank you guys, appreciate it.
