Good evening. I would like to call this regular uh meeting of the Muscle Shoes Board of Education to order. Would everyone please stand for the pledge of allegiance? >> I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> All right, Miss Mifflin, would you please call the role? Here, >> here. >> Thank you, Miss Mifflin. Dr. Holden, we have a quorum. >> All right. Thank you, Mr. President. I recommend approval of tonight's agenda as presented. >> Board, our first u Excuse me. Yeah. Our first order of business is to approve the agenda as presented. Do I have a motion to approve the agenda as presented? >> I make a motion to approve this.

>> Thank you, Dr. Starter. We have a motion. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Thank you, Miss Alman. We have a motion and a second. Is there any discussion? All right. Hearing none, call to vote. All in favor say I. >> I. Any opposed? All right. Dr. Olden, the agenda is approved. >> All right. Uh the next item is the commenation for the Muscle Schultz High School Trojan marching band. I have a copy of that resolution in the packet. And if there's no objection, I'd like to have those included in our minutes tonight's meeting. uh had the opportunity last night to go to the city council meeting and the city council did a proclamation for them. Uh Representative Bubba Underwood was there with the resolution from the House of Representatives just commemorating the 60th

anniversary of the Trojan band program and I offered the one framed and uh for uh for the for the band director. She had some students there. We had three three band directors there, two retired and then of course Miss Hood. and uh just a good a good time to celebrate. And uh Mr. Stigall got up and and talked a little bit about the the events they have planned. I think it's April 10th and 11th. I think it's a Friday and Saturday. Kind of a two-day event. One of those is going to be over at the uh Florence Coliseum in conjunction with I think dinner with the band is already going to be that night maybe or something to that effect. But they're going to have a lot of alumni that's going to come back and

be a part of that. And then the next day they have an event. I think it's at the high school. uh give some folks the opportunity that may may have never, you know, walked the halls of the existing Musl High School that graduated a long time ago. And so I know Mr. Steagall has put a lot of work into this. He's putting together some old footage uh and archiving it. Basically, they're going to have that playing in the auditorium and then he's going to donate those uh those video productions that he's made to the public library and the high school. So, I thought that was pretty neat. He talked a little bit about last night. So anyway, we we do appreciate the the band program and how it's grown. Uh somebody asked the question, Mr.

Lindley asked the question last night, how many kids showed up for the first meeting of the high school band? Mr. Stagall said one said it was one kid showed up for the first meeting that they had. And of course, that program has grown now. I think this year they have about 130 students in the band. So they do a really good job. and I just appreciate the the story uh the story of the band program and and how how much work they put into everything. So, uh as far as correspondence tonight, Mr. President, I will mention uh the Swampers run. They had a meeting today in this room. Actually had a dinner uh excuse me, a lunch that was I guess it's dinner in the south, right? But they had a lunch in this room.

The education foundation uh is sponsoring that this year if you didn't know that. Uh this is going to be a fundraiser for the education foundation. First time that they've they've managed it or taken over sponsorship of it, but uh uh it's going to be a big deal. I' I've got some cards at your place setting there and then some more here if you'd like to, you know, give these out or mail these out or whatever. But that'll be April the 11th, same date that we were talking about uh the band event uh at the high school. But uh I just appreciate, you know, Ellie Lawler and the foundation being willing to take this on. Josh HCO is very passionate about it. He was he was here and leading the meeting talked about you know I

think 22 years is that what he said 22 years ago >> they started this and uh it has grown and they have a lot of folks coming to town to do this. So uh and we had all the city departments here police fire uh street department everybody because it is a it is a huge event. One person can't put it on school sort of serves as host at the middle school. appreciate Miss Ritter and her school being able to to host it there and kind of be Is that the end of the run or is that the beginning of the run or both? >> It's the end of the run. >> Yeah. But there's going to be food trucks. I mean, it's it's the whole nine yards. They put a lot of thought work into

it. So, I just invite you to be a part of that. Whether you run or whether you don't, come out and support the Swampers 5K in one mile on April the 11th. Uh and with that I will move to the next item on the agenda. It is approval of the meeting minutes. We had a special call meeting back on March 3rd in our regular meeting on February 24th. You have those minutes in your packet and I recommend those minutes as presented. All right, board. The superintendent has recommended approval of the board meeting minutes as presented. Do I have a motion to approve the minutes? >> So moved. >> Thank you, Miss Alman. We have a motion. Is there a second? Thank you, Mr. Wood. We have a motion and a second. Is there any discussion?

All right. Hearing none, call to vote. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? All right. Dr. Holden. The motion carries. >> All right. The next item is uh a series of items. The consent agenda. And for the consent agenda, the board has been furnished with background material or has discussed the item at a previous meeting. Consent agenda items are acted upon with one vote without discussion. If a board member does wish to discuss any item, we can pull it from the consent agenda and vote on it separately. For tonight's consent agenda, you have the February uh financial reports as well as the check register from Miss Langley's office, and all of those have been reconciled. We have a budget amendment, fiscal year 26 budget amendment that she discussed with you during the

work session. We have approval of the middle school Washington DC field trip that we take every year. That'll be October 17th through the 23rd, as well as the social studies textbook adoption. And just a point of personal privilege, I thank Dr. Kim Kaid as well as Mr. Madden and all the the textbook committee that that had several meetings throughout the year and poured a lot of work into that reviewing those materials and and deciding which ones we want to adopt here locally. Uh so with that if any board member wishes to pull any item from the consent agenda hearing none I recommend the consent agenda as presented. >> Thank you Dr. Olden board. The superintendent has recommended approval of the consent agenda. Do I have a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented? Thank

you, Mr. Wood. We have a motion. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Thank you, Dr. Stoddard. We have a motion and a second. Is there any discussion? >> All right. Hearing none, call to vote. All in favor say, "I." >> I. >> Any opposed. All right. Dr. Holden, the consent agenda is approved. >> All right. Next item is the personnel report, and I recommend the personnel report as presented. >> Right. Thank you, Dr. Holden. Board, the superintendent has recommended approval of the personnel report. Do I have a motion to approve the personnel report as presented? >> I'll make a motion to approve. >> Thank you, Dr. Stoddard. We have a motion. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Thank you, Miss Alman. We have a motion and a second. Is there any discussion? >>

All right. Hearing none, call to vote. All in favor say, "I." >> I. Opposed. All right. Dr. Holden. The personnel report is approved. All right. Under retirement, Sharon Price, secretary bookkeeper, How Grace Preschool, effective June 1st. and under resignation, Sherry Langley, CSFO for the district. That'll be effective June the 30th. Under other part-time supplemental contract or special assignments, Noah Bishop for our extended day program. Connie Fugqua, basketball concession stand worker. Cameron Gryom, cheer assistant coach, that's a $1,000 supplement for the 2627 school year. Kimberly Holiday, extended day program. Charlie Johnson, stadium cleaning to be paid from track funds. We had previously approved Charlie to clean up the stadium but not specifically from track funds. So that's why that's on there tonight. Erica Langley uh extended day high school aid Becky Peyton speech language pathologist to

provide academic instruction uh services. Uh then Jane Hollis Puy Leia Smith Christy Whitlock and Valerie Willis. Those are also gate workers that we did have to use during the basketball season kind of in a emergency situation. we had to have some coverage and they had not been previously approved. So that's why they're on there tonight. Connor Rackard, softball gate worker, Maria Smith, extended day program. And then we have a host of names that I'm not going to read, but anyone in the audience that would like to come up here and see this, you're welcome to. But you see all of our summer schools, summer camps, the literacy camps, the math camps, all the things that are going to be going on this summer. These are all the staff members that will be working in those

positions. So I appreciate Dr. Concaid again for putting that list together and and these folks for being willing to work during the summer. Uh it's it's it's kind of hard to find folks to do that sometimes, believe it or not. But these folks were willing and we do certainly appreciate that. Uh and that goes all the way into the next page as well. All of those folks are are summer learning camp work well. And then under for information only, not for board action, we have a couple of Kelly service staffing needs, folks that are filling in for a couple maternity leaves that we have in the district. And then new requests, uh Caroline Connor systemwide, that'll be flexible with medical needs as well as Rebecca Jacob. Uh that should end with thinking March 30th, but

that will be flexible as well. And Mallerie Johnson, that'll be flexible. Any questions or or corrections? what I just read out on the personnel. All right. And then just a brief superintendent report. Uh it is definitely a busy time of the year. If you're ever bored and just need something to do, call some of these principles. I'm sure there's something going on at their school or a ball game or something like that that that you can attend. Um but just know administrators and I do continue to have conversations about not only closing out this school year, but just, you know, prepping for next fall. a lot of conversations and and personnel thoughts that that have to be uh considered as we go forward. A lot of moving parts this time of year. Uh if you'll

remember though, a year ago, we had a pretty significant retirement list at the March meeting. Right now, we have one, so I'm sure we'll have a few more. It will increase next month, but uh I don't anticipate having was it 45 new employees in the fall. Hopefully, we won't have that again this year, but but definitely do still have some some moving parts. I want to commend again Miss Shanetta Smith for being named a finalist for the National Distinguished Principal. Let's give her a hand and for and for representing the the school system so well. Several of us in the room had a chance to go over there and participate in some interviews and brag on her a little bit uh or tell them the truth. I don't know which it was. I mean, but

uh but she did represent the school system well and we're just so happy for her. It's an honor to be a part of that process and be named a finalist for the state. Uh there is a big announcement for our area Friday. I know there's already been some news media surrounding that out in at the Barton plant. Company is called Hadrien I believe is the way you pronounce it. But uh you know just an industry that's in the defense uh realm. Uh there'll be lots of things that will come I think after that. And uh but it's it's big for our area and and I I think it's one of the more significant events that or announcements that we've seen a long time. Somebody said maybe is the biggest thing that's happened to the Sholes

area since TVA. We'll see. But I I definitely think that we're going to see this area, the Scholes area and specifically Muscle Shows really take off and boom in the next 5 to 10 years because of this uh legislative session is winding down. There's a few days left. It's been a fairly uneventful legislative session. Uh the education budget has passed. Another historic budget. Um, we we do expect a 2% pay raise for our employees. We're going to have a slight cut to our ENT funds, an increase in OCE. I saw that. And and maybe some technology grants for for buildings and equipment. And uh once the the session ends, we'll get a really comprehensive rundown from SSA and AASB and APA, all all the associations that are down there watching and participating in all of

that every day. Okay, we'll get a good comprehensive list and I'll make sure that you have that information, but hopefully it's not 29 new education laws that we have to navigate next year like we did a couple ago. Um, and I'll have more to say later about Miss Langley, but Sherry, thank you very much. We appreciate you and your service to Muscle Show City Schools. and uh she's not leaving immediately. So uh but she'll be she'll be here for a few more months, but uh uh it it we're going to commit to a smooth transition. I know it's not ideal for both of us to be leaving at the same time, but we're going to do everything we can uh to make it a smooth transition and and pass the torch on to to whoever

comes next in both of our roles. And u you know, Lord willing, I'll still be around from time to time. my kids will still be here and um but but good luck to you and there'll be more that I'll say about that a little bit later on. Spring break is around the corner. I wish everybody a restful and relaxing time for spring break. I know the children and the staff are getting restless. The principles are getting restless. I can tell by looking at them. They're ready to go. But uh this week off couldn't come at a at a better time. So I think it's right on time. So with that, Mr. President, that's all I have. >> All right. Thank you, Dr. Holden. pass the uh floor to Mr. Wood. >> I do would like

to I know Dr. Hol thank you I'd like to add a little bit to that and say you've done a fantastic job for us and we much like Dr. Holden we are in situation have people um other folks come looking for them and uh we hate to lose you but I understand this is Congratulations on that >> can do your job. So no seriously congrats and best. >> Thank you Mr. Wood. I think we we all echo of that. So thank you very much. Um all right well this uh concludes the agenda for our meeting. Is there any further discussion? All right then we are adjourned.
