001Good evening. I'd like to call this regular meeting of the Musls Board of Education to order. Would everyone please stand for the pledge of allegiance? >> I'm sorry, we had to move it. >> Pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you, Miss Mifflin. If you would please call the role. >> here. >> Thank you, Miss Mel and Dr. Holden. We have a quorum. >> Thank you, Mr. President. And I recommend approval of tonight's agenda as presented. >> All right. Board. Our first order of business is to approve the agenda as presented. Do I have a motion to approve the agenda as presented? >> I make. >> Thank you, Dr. Stoddard.
002Do we have a motion to approve the agenda? Do we have a second? >> Second. >> Thank you, uh, Miss Dr. Davis. Uh, we have a motion and a second. Is there any discussion? All right. Hearing none, call to vote. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. All right. Holden. The, uh, agenda is approved. >> All right. Mr. King, I have no correspondence to report tonight. So, we'll move right on to item E, which is approval of the meeting minutes from the December 16th, 2025 regular meeting. You have those minutes in your packet and I recommend. >> All right, board. The superintendent has recommended approval of the board meeting minutes as presented. Do I have a motion to approve the minutes? >> President, I make a motion to approve the meeting minutes as
003presented. >> Thank you, Dr. Davis. We have a motion. Do we have a second? >> A second. >> Thank you, Mr. Wood. We have a motion and a second. Is there any discussion? All right. Hearing none, call the vote. All in favor say, I. >> I. >> Any opposed? All right, Dr. Holden, the motion carries. >> All right, our business action items tonight. First, we have the consent agenda. Uh, and for the consent agenda, the board has been furnished with background material on each item or has discussed the item at a previous meeting. Consent agenda items are acted upon with one vote without discussion. But if a board member wishes to discuss any item, we can pull it from the consent agenda and vote on it separately. For tonight's consent agenda, we have the financial
004reports from Miss Langley, the December 25 financials, as well as the check register, and those have all been reconciled. We also, this is the time of year that we approve the 20 26 27 code of conduct and the student parent handbooks from each of the schools. You have those in your consent agenda. Uh tonight we also have the declaration of surplus. We had a maintenance vehicle that uh that we need to surplus. It's it's no longer of use to us and so it was going to be a lot more expensive to fix it than it was to uh to just maybe buy another one. So you're also see in the consent agenda the purchase of a new vehicle for our maintenance department and then we have one out ofstate field trip on that list. So
005does any board member wish to pull any of those items from the consent agenda and vote on it separately? Hearing none, Mr. President, I recommend the consent agenda as presented. >> All right. Thank you, Dr. Holden. Board, the superintendent has recommended approval of the consent agenda. Do I have a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented? >> I'll make approved consent agenda. >> Thank you, Mr. Wood. We have a motion. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Thank you, Dr. Stoddard. We have a motion and a second. Is there any discussion? All right. Hearing none, call a vote. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? All right, Dr. Holden. Motion carries. >> Next, we have the personnel report and you have that in your packet and I recommend. >> All right.
006Thank you, Dr. Holden. Board, the superintendent has recommended approval of the personnel report. Do I have a motion to approve personnel report as presented? I make >> Thank you, Dr. Stoddard. We have a motion. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Thank you, Dr. Davis. Uh, there is a motion and a second. Do we have any discussion? >> All right. Hearing none, call to vote. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? All right, Dr. Holden, the personnel report is approved. >> All right. For the benefit of the audience, the personnel report tonight consists of the following. Under retirement or resignation, Diane Simmons, CNP staff, assigned to McBride in the middle school. That'll be effective February 27th. Under employment, Anna Wallace, school nurse at the Early Learning Center. That'll be effective January the
00719th. Also, under other or part-time supplemental contract or special assignments, we have uh two teachers, Angela Ferguson and Laura Owen at Webster, who will be doing homebound services for a student. Uh also Samantha Goodwin and Lydia James for additional staff for our band program for the 2526 school year. Jackson Hallmark, systemwide uh extended day program college aid. Kelly Holder, additional hours as a part-time nurse at the Early Learning Center. Also adjusting the start date for Kelly Marorrow, who is our new coordinator for the extended day program. Uh correcting that date from January 5th to January the 2nd. We should have started her on January the 2nd. Uh also another teacher at the middle school, Presley Roads, providing homebound services to a student. and then adjusting the mentoring stipen for Danielle Hillman previously approved for a
008statef funded mentoring stipen and the state ended up not funding that particular one because of the teacher that she is mentoring uh the certificate that they have it it didn't qualify for a for a mentoring stipen so she will still get a local mentoring stifen but it won't be the state funed and then under uh information only not for board action a couple of Kelly staffing updates uh a pair of professional added to the McBride staff and then a medical request there for an employee at Muscle Shells Middle School. Any questions or comments about that? All right. And then the last thing I have just a brief superintendence report. I I know this was mentioned during the work session, but I did want to mention it during our meeting just for the benefit of the
009the recording that we will send out to the public. But, you know, January is schoolboard appreciation month, and we certainly appreciate the work that you all do. It's often times a thankless job and I just appreciate the principles for the little tokens of appreciation that they presented tonight. I know Dr. Schneider had some from the McBride students and up here on the desk you have some others from the Howell Grave students and those will be fun to take home and look through. I know uh and so we we just appreciate you and on behalf of the entire district. Thank you for the being the board members that you are and being committed to our school system and providing us with the resources that we need. Uh just a couple of shoutouts for employees. I do
010want to congratulate head coach Scott Basden for being selected as the 6A coach of the year. He will be honored on Saturday uh at a banquet by the Alabama High School Football Coaches Association. So, uh just had a great season this year and and just does a great job always and and we're glad that that he's being honored on the state statewide stage for that. Uh our cheerleaders are headed to nationals. In fact, you approve their trip uh tonight. I think they leave today or tomorrow, but they are headed down for nationals. I think that'll be maybe Friday. Uh I shared a link earlier today. If you happen to want to watch their competition, there's a link on there that you can do that. So, we certainly wish them the very best uh as they
011go to Orlando and represent Muscle Show City Schools. Uh basketball season is is kind of winding down. We're about to enter the area play. Uh our boys will be hosting the area tournament uh in a in a few weeks. And uh the girls, I think they travel over to Decatur for their area tournament. We certainly wish them the best. Do have a big basketball game at home tomorrow night. The Florence Falcons will be coming to town. That's always a big event. So if you want to see some some good basketball, just come out to uh the high school gym. It'll be at home for us. But I know Dr. Davis and his staff have been preparing for that. So uh always full house. Get there early. Yeah, that's right. If you don't normally get there
012and watch those games at 3:30, you might want to this week because those people will get a seat and they will not leave and the fire marshall will shut us down. They they do just about every year because, you know, y'all know our gym is just not as big as some of the ones that we play against and uh and we'll have some upset people. They'll get there right at game time and they will not get in. And so uh we expect that. But if you want to be there, get there early. That's true. Uh also did want to commend and congratulate Dr. Kincaid. You probably saw this uh on social media uh where she and Don Woodall and Brooks Canutup at the last city council meeting shared about a grant that they had applied
013for. It was $150,000 called the ASAP grant has to do with after school and and and that sort of thing. Summer camps, I think it can be used for that as well. Uh but we get $75,000. The parks and wreck get 75,000. And in order to get it, you had to apply together as a partnership. And so that's that was something that was new for us. and and so we were glad to do that and I just appreciate her work on that and it will go to expand after school opportunities for middle school students as well as support our literacy and numeracy camps this summer. So thank you for doing that. Uh our next meeting will be February the 24th. Uh we will have our district teachers of the year here that night. Also it's
014career tech month. Uh you know last few years we have had that meeting at the career academy u but I think we'll have it here this year. Uh Mr. Rinx may have some kind of spotlight or highlight that he wants to do for the Career Tech Center. Whether he brings some students in or whatever, he and I can talk about that. But we'll we'll honor Career Tech and honor the teachers of the year at the next meeting and I look forward to that. So with that, Mr. President, that's all I have. >> All right. Thank you, Dr. Holden. Um, this does complete our agenda uh for the meeting. Is there any further discussion? >> All right, then this meeting is adjourned.
