like to call this meeting to order. Um, first item up is the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Miss Smith, would you please call the role? Oh, sorry. Here. Here. All right. Um, Dr. Holden, we need to approve the agenda. That's the next thing up. >> Uh, you have the agenda in front of you and I recommend approval of the agenda as presented. >> All right. So, we have a motion to approve the agenda to or I need a motion to approve the agenda. Thank you. Motion when >> I second. >> Got a second. Uh any discussion? All in favor say I. >> I. Any opposed?

There is none. So the agenda has been approved. >> All right. I do have some correspondence to report tonight from the Alabama Association of School Boards. We did receive our certificates and plaques uh recognizing this board uh with the school board member academy team training award in for 2025. We we generally do get that. We have a board that is committed to becoming a a better board and better board members through the AAS AASB uh academy. And so I appreciate that. Some of you also have reached new levels. I think uh Miss Alman, you got a plaque for completion of the uh of the academy. So congratulations to you. And Dr. Davis got a little date plate for the plaque that she has at home on her mantle, I'm sure. So uh but anyway, we

we just appreciate all that you do. And I think Mr. King has reached level three, too. and I've got a certificate that I will be sure and get to him. So, I appreciate AASB recognizing our board and our board members. Next item, Mr. Vice President, is the minutes from the September 11th regular monthly meeting. That was also one of our budget hearings, the budget hearing number two, and you have those minutes in your packet, and I recommend approval of those minutes. >> Thank you, Dr. Holden. So, we have a recommendation to approve the meeting minutes from the last meeting. Do I have a motion? Thank you. We have a motion. Do we have a second? >> Second. >> Motion and a second. Any discussion? No discussion. Let's take a vote. All in favor say I.

>> I. Any opposed? There's none. So, we have approved the meeting minutes from the last meeting. >> Okay. Moving into our business action items. We'll move on to the consent agenda. For the consent agenda, the board has been furnished with background material on each item or has discussed the item at a previous meeting. Consent agenda items will be acted upon with one vote without discussion. Unless a board member wishes to discuss any item, we can pull that and vote on it separately. For tonight's consent agenda, we have the board's appointment to the sick leave bank committee. We also have the establishment of an activity supplement for Key Club, which has been active for a few years and and they are definitely alive and well. And so we want to uh provide that sponsor with a

with a supplement for doing that work. And then also a date change of the November board meeting. Um, as I shared with you all, I'm going to be out of town on the date that we had originally approved, which was November 18th. This action will move the board meeting for November to Thursday, November the 20th. Does any board member wish to pull any of those items and vote on them separately? Hearing none. Uh, Mr. Wood, I recommend approval of the consent agenda as presented. >> Thank you, Dr. So, we have a recommendation to approve the consent agenda. Do I have a motion? >> So, move. Have a motion. Do I have a second? And a second. Any discussion? We're all good. Let's take a vote. All in favor say I. >> I. Any opposed? There's

none. So, the consent agenda has been approved. >> Thank you, Mr. Wood. Next is the personnel report. You have that report in your packet and I recommend. >> All right. Thanks again, Dr. Holdens. We've got a recommendation to approve the personnel report. Do I have a motion? Thank you, Dr. Stoddard. Do we have a second? Thank you, Dr. Davis. So, we have a motion in a second. Any discussion? None. Uh, let's take a vote. All in favor say I. >> I. Any opposed? >> There's none. So, we have approved your personnel reports. >> All right. For the benefit of the audience, the personnel report tonight consists of the following. Under resignation, Rebecca Sullivan, Bath Coach, Halime Webster, Halime Highland Park. That'll be effective October the 24th. Under employment, Hannah Clement, teacher, early childhood prek teacher

in [snorts] the P3 program effective date will be to be determined. Under other part-time supplemental contract and special assignments, Ivan Bea, coaching supplement for soccer. Tina Brooks, CNP assistant at Webster for unpaid leave. Rebecca Canrell, elementary teacher at the middle school, also a request for unpaid leave, both for extraordinary circumstances. You have those dates listed for both. Also, Saturday school staff for this school year, Jordan Crow, Michelle Woodis, Katie Sue Dolan, and Jessica Nunnley. Cynthia Fox, extended day program site lead substitute systemwide. Edith Fuca, concession stand coordinator for the high school during basketball season. Candy Hester, concession stand manager at the middle school during basketball season. uh some volleyball gate workers uh and basketball gate workers, Danielle Hillman and Karen Thigpin. Also, Charlie Johnson for cleaning up the stadium following the Tennessee Valley Invitational band

competition. Matt Jones, basketball clock operator during the basketball season for the high school. Megan Keenum, science fair sponsor, that's at the middle school. U just a late addition to that supplement schedule there. Also Rich Kennedy uh for set design and construction, audio, video, technical support, those types of things for our course productions this year. Ray Feifer to announce our basketball games this year. Troy Rogers, key club sponsor. You approved that position on the consent agenda. Now we're putting a name to it. Uh he'll be the key club sponsor or has been and and we'll be being paid for that now. And then Kyla Sllayton, stage management for the course productions at the high school. uh do have some additions to our nurse substitute list down there at the bottom and then just a few for

information only, not for board action items as well. Any questions or comments about the personnel report? >> All right, Mr. Wood, item C is the AASB delegate selection. All right. Board. In October, we elect one delegate and one alternate to represent our board at the AASB delegate assembly held in December of each year. At this time, I will open the floor for nominations for a delegate and an alternate. >> Um, thank you, Dr. uh Stoddard. Um, Dr. Davis has been nominated to serve as our delegate and Miss Alman has been nominated to serve as our alternate. Are there any other nominations? Hearing none, is there a motion to close the nominations and call for the vote? >> So move. >> Uh is there a second? >> Second. >> Thank you. All in favor say I.

>> I. Any opposed? There are none. So, the motion to close carries. All in favor of Dr. Davis serving as delegate and Miss Alman serving as alternate, uh, please say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? And there are none. So, Dr. Davis has been elected as our delegate and Miss Alman has been elected as our alternate. >> Thank you for your service. >> [laughter] >> I guess if you're opposed to that, you go serve yourself. >> That's That's right. >> That's [snorts] too late. That's it. Okay. Next item. Uh Mr. Woods is some board policy action. We've discussed this during work sessions previously, but there was some legislation passed uh regarding vaping in schools and awareness, education, prevention, all those types of things. And uh the state department, the state board of education rather, had

to act on it first, provide us with a model policy and that type of thing. So, these two items both relate to the new law about us providing awareness, education, and prevention. Uh, we had to tweak board policy 4.02 just a little bit. That was an existing policy, and we had to add some language. So, it's, you know, what you're approving is is a is just some additional wording. And then board policy 6.28 is the new policy. All of that language would be new, but it is the it is the model policy that has been provided to us. So, I'm going to recommend both these policies together, similar to to the way we do a consent agenda. Vote on them together on one vote, unless you guys want to pull them and vote on them

separately. Anybody want to vote on it separately? All right. So, I recommend board policy action uh to amend board policy 4.02 as presented and to approve the new policy, board action 6.28, both related to vape awareness, education, and prevention. I recommend those together. Thank you, Dr. Holden. Dr. Holden's recommended that we amend uh policy 4.02 and add policy 6.28. Do I have a motion for that? Thank you. So, we have a motion. Do I have a second? >> Second. >> All right. Actually have two of them. Awesome. Um any discussion? No discussion. So, we will vote. All in favor say I. >> I. Any opposed? None. And so, we have approved that amendment of 4.02 2 and adding of 6.28. Dr. Cole, >> thank you board. And very quickly, superintendent report. I know we have

the uh some events to get to tonight and support our school system. Do want to commend the football team. They're having a tremendous run this year, undefeated region champions. We'll be number one seed in the AHSAA playoffs. And so we'll be hosting that first game. So we wish them the very best and and look forward to a maybe a good run in the playoffs, hopefully all the way to the end. Right. uh band program is is rocking and rolling right now. Had a successful TVI uh state runner up at the competition on Saturday. They'll be heading over to the US bands, which is a a really tough competition that they haven't competed in in some years, but they will be in Huntsville this Saturday for their final contest. I know the middle school and and

Miss Ritter, they just got back from the DC trip. She talked a little bit about that in her presentation during the work session, but it looks like they had a good trip despite the government shutdown and uh and we just look forward to I told her it's time to start planning the next one because I've got one that'll be going next year in the eighth grade. So, I know they're looking forward to that. Uh I know she had to leave, but I did want to congratulate Shannetta Smith being nominated by the Alabama Association of Elementary School Administrators as a national distinguished principal. She'll be in a a competition for a state award who will be representing district one and we just appreciate her work there and being recognized by her peers in that association. Um

I I do want to thank all the principles. You know that I know they've left they they presented and they left uh because they had other things I'm sure to do in the school system but um you know they they do a tremendous job. I appreciate them presenting to you guys tonight about the overall academic health of our system. like any other organization, we have work to do and we we're recognizes though recognizing those things and I know there's a lot of work going on in the schools, but I just appreciate them and Dr. Concade for their presentation tonight. Uh we've mentioned the Mefford family. In fact, we recognized them with a resolution here after they did the what they did at the middle school. Um and we have expressed our thanks to them once

again. Uh I don't know that they would want to do the resolution again here and I understand that. But they just continue to be a driving force in this area, not just with us, but with Florence City Schools also in helping kids with special needs. They have a passion for it. They're using that passion for good. And and I just appreciate when a a a family or person in the community says, "Hey, that's a need. Tell me how I can help." And that's what they've done. And I and I certainly appreciate that. Last thing I'll say is just don't forget about the retiree lunchon. That'll be November 6th. You may have already communicated with Carla Horton about whether you can come or not. If you haven't, make sure she knows if you are coming for

sure so we can include you in our in our headcount. But we're looking to have a good group uh that are going to be there and that have already responded. Uh uh our city council is not going to be able to come. We invited them this year, but they are at actually at their orientation meeting for the new council because they'll be seated next week. But our new mayor, Billy Hudson, is going to come. did reach out to Carla and said he's going to be there and I told him that I'd give him a few minutes to you know greet everybody and share his vision for for you know what he wants to see. So I look forward to having him at the retirey lunchon next Thursday. So outside of that that's all I have.

>> Thank you Dr. Holden. That concludes our agenda for tonight. So this meeting is adjourned. Thank you.
