Do >> I have a second? >> Second. >> All in favor say I. I. >> Any opposed? Hearing none. Motion carries this time. Dr. Martin, I believe we have some recognitions. >> Yes. >> All right. Yes. Um, want to uh to start by congratulating our marching band. So, we had a chance to hear from our jazz combo band. Dr. Canow, I do have one quick question. when you tap your head. I I didn't I saw you do that a couple times in my world in basketball. That means the shot clock just went out.
004So share with me real quick when you're tapping your head what that means with the >> go back to the top. >> Okay. >> So we're wrapping it up, right? So Mr. King, if we start to see Mr. Dr. Canals tapping his head, right, at meetings, we know that's not a compliment, right? Okay. All right. Good deal. Good deal. With that said, um I think you have a few of your drum majors here. Is that correct? And then auxiliary leaders as well. would you bring them forward? Okay. So, last Thursday we just completed, correct, our uh our our our concert there at the high school and they did a a phenomenal job and we are have just wrapped up our our marching band season as well. And I've got a couple stats here. The Peach
005State Marching Festival that took place in Rome, Georgia, you were the grand champion overall. You had the highest overall score of the day. Uh you had an award for outstanding musical performance and for you had the highest music score of the day in that area as well. Best-in-class for dance, best-in-class for percussion, best-in-class for band, superior ratings across all categories. And how many bands competed at Rome, Georgia on that day? >> 15 or 16 bands and we were the overall best. Okay. at Hoover at their invitational. We had the bestin-class for dance, the best-in-class for percussion, third place overall. Um, I was at that competition. I disagree. Um, superior ratings in all categories, and uh I I think it's it's easy to say you guys had a very successful marching band season. Correct. You want
006to introduce our um drum majors as well as auxiliary leaders, please? >> Absolutely. We have Jack um Murphy who's our head drum manager. We're missing one tonight who had an emergency. Um Taylor and Mary. >> Okay. And then plans plans folks for next year. Will band be in your future for next year? Tell us a little bit. >> Uh yes. Yes. I'll be hopefully trying out again for drum major and Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Wonderful. >> I'm headed to the University of Alabama to go into music. >> All right. Okay. All right. >> Um I'm heading to Highlands College and I will be taking dance classes as well. I'm a dancer but I do play um instruments. So I'll be playing instruments right now. >> Okay. Wonderful. Wonderful. Mary Kate, this is like your
00710th time. Am I right or not? >> I just love being here. >> Did somebody bring Mary Kay to check? I think last time you were here. Yeah. So go ahead, Mary Kay. What's your plan? >> I'm going to Auburn University and I'll be trying out for their color guard. >> Okay. All right. Good. So, if you're keeping score at home, one individual going to Alabama, well represented right here for our board of education. Let's give him one more round of applause. Thank you so much. So, now I know why Mark touch his head back. >> Yeah, that's right. Thank you so much for being here. >> Thank you, Mr. King. >> All right, our second recognition of the evening, we are going to recognize a state champion. Ladies, welcome. Coach Bowman, would you come
008up here with me real quick? All right. I'm gonna let you organ. >> All right, ladies. Welcome. Thank you so much for being here. Sandra, am I correct? They were the grand marshall in this year's Christmas parade. All right, ladies. How was that? Was that a fun experience? >> All right, good. And you got that because you are the state champion, correct? For all classifications for middle school. >> Junior high. Sorry. Junior high. My apologies. I All I want to know is how many teams did you beat in order to be the state champion? >> How many teams were in your >> Well, we had to get a bid. So, we went to the super regional which were I think seven. Okay. >> And then we got a bid from there. there. We won the
009regional and then we were invited to state. So we go against from the north, two centrals and the south. So around six or seven other teams once we got there. So 14 total >> and you and you beat them all. Like it did if there were 100 teams or 50 teams or seven teams and then a team from the north, the south, and the central. It didn't matter. You were going to win. Correct. >> And by 12 and a half points, which is huge. >> Okay. All right. So not only did you win, you skunkked them. Is that correct? All right. Congratulations. That's exciting. Coaches, do you mind uh introducing us to the athletes here? >> Um, well, they're they're cheerleaders, so they are going to introduce themselves. >> Ladies, take it away. >> I
010am I'm Kim Dy. >> I'm Caitlyn Bowman. This is Stephanie Wilkerson. She's here at cardboard because she had surgery. >> I'm Charlotte Vessels and I'm in the seventh grade. I'm Paul. I'm in the third. >> I'm John. I'm in the seventh grade. >> I'm in the seventh grade. I'm in seventh grade. >> I'm in seventh grade. >> I'm Lindsay and I'm in eighth grade. >> I'm in the eighth grade. I'm in the eighth grade. >> I'm Melissa Hib. I'm in the eighth grade. I'm walk I'm in grade I'm in grade I'm in. >> All right. Let's give them a round of applause. So I heard seventh grade well represented, eighth grade well represented, ninth grade well represented. So the future is very bright for Husky cheer. Is that fair? All right. Thank you so much
011for being here. Uh Lance, would you come up? Could we do a picture real quick? Do you mind the >> line? They're well trained. She has her Another round of applause. Were they all? Yeah. >> All right. Our third recognition for the evening. We have a very special group of teachers here. Um, and I'd ask you if you are a nationally board certified teacher, if you would please come to the front of the room and stand with Dr. Steve Ward. A few moments ago, we had a chance to recognize our nationally board certified teachers, and I um had a chance just to share a couple of stats. There are 3.2 million public school teachers in the United States of America. There are 137,000 nationally board certified teachers, which is about 4.2%. In the state of
012Alabama, there are 42,000 public school teachers. And of those, there are 1,700 nationally board certified teachers in the state, which represents 4%. Here in Trustful, we have 22 nationally board certified teacher, and maybe I'm a little biased, but I think we have the best 22 nationally board certified teachers of the 1700. I'm going to go ahead and say of the 137,000. So, we appreciate all that you do. We appreciate your hard work. This is such a reflective process in making sure that you're your absolute best and fortunately it's every five years. Is that correct when you reup for national board certification? So we certainly appreciate all of your hard work. So with that said, thank you for being here this evening and thanks for what you do for students. Thank you. people on the left.
013>> That's you gotten close together. Can everybody see us? >> He doesn't want to squat. >> Okay. >> All right. Now stand up straight. Make sure you can see me. >> All right. Thank you for being here. Appreciate you. See you Friday. First thing in the morning, 8 o'clock. >> Okay. All right. One more recognition Thursday. All right. this next individual that I'd like to recognize, uh, Kathy Bergen, if you would come forward, please, and stand with Dr. Ward. Kathy Bergen works here in our office. Um, and and she usually is the first line, correct, there at the back of the building in our student services center and have a chance to talk and meet with a lot of our different families. Uh, one of the things that Mrs. Bergen has become a master of
014is taking what is often a very difficult, sometimes unpleasant conversation and has done a phenomenal job in representing Trustful City Schools. And because of this, she was named the class District 7 Secretary of the Year. And when she got there, we thought it was going to be a very big surprise until they announced Chuck's wife, correct? Was the secretary of the year for the state of Alabama, which blew the complete surprise we've been trying to keep for the last what, six weeks? Is that correct? So, but with that said, Kathy Bergen is the Secretary of the Year for the state of Alabama and we could not be more excited. So, congratulations. Yes. >> That's right. Yeah, that's right. That's right. So, I'm going to leave it up to you since he spoiled your surprise. Would
015you like Chuck in this picture or is it just going to be the three? Okay, Chuck, come on forward. Yes, if you would. Congratulations. Yes. Yes. Thank you, Dr. Ward. Um, we are pleased to present the monthly financial report for the month of November. Uh, it's in your packet for review. Uh all bank accounts have been reconciled to the general ledger and uh uploaded to the state department of education with any necessary edits corrected for the month. Uh expenditures and transfers out in the general fund at month end were uh 14.3% of the budget compared to 16.4% of the budget this time last year. So we're we're tracking about the same maybe a little bit better. um AVORM revenue is um 8.5% uh 8.56% of our budget compared to 8.6% of our budget this time
016last year. Um but like I said last month, just remember the way Advalorum comes in October, November, December, it all depends on how people pay their taxes with their mortgage. So every year is a little different. Um levels out in January and February. So um about that time I'll come with a more detailed report of how Avalor revenues have done for the year. Uh all transactions appear to be uh a usual and routine manner and within the legal authorization fiscal management of the policies of the board and upon approval of the board the monthly financial report will be made available for public review. >> Thank you. At this time, we look at the consent agenda. Have we had an opportunity to look at it? If so, have a motion to adopt. >> So move. >>
017Have a second. >> Second. >> Hearing that, please, all in favor, please say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Hearing? None. Consent agenda is passed. All department. Anything you like to >> just just a couple of items I'd like for um to mention here as part of consent agenda. Item number 11. Uh we recently last Thursday went through a process of bid to replace the track there at the high school. Uh that bid came in um right at budget about 1.2 million. Uh but I do want to make sure that I mention um our appreciation to Mayor Ben Short and our city leadership uh for working with us to find a funding mechanism with the refunding of bonds. uh and and so that will re um uh that that will allow us to cover roughly
018uh over 3/4 of the cost of the track. So we're we're appreciative to them and also want to make sure that I thank uh Jim Kirkland for working with our uh financial gurus to make sure that we had those funds available. Um the next item, item 12, new baseball field lighting and gym lighting. This was bid as well last Thursday. came in very close to budget and so that's a project we'll look to move forward on both of those as we get to the late spring as well as to the summer months. Uh want to uh have the board take a look there at item 13 memorandum of understanding for huskys together. Want to thank uh Jim Kirkland and Rachel Puy for their work with this board. Uh this this is a program that actually
019came from leadership trustful as you will recall that helps support our students uh in in wellness and uh in that area so that um not only can they improve their own personal lifestyles but also that helps them build that foundation for being successful in the future. So I know that's something that Lisa Bright has worked with the school system on. In terms of our change orders, you'll see there item 15, two deducts, and that is associated with our Seawwing project. And then members of the board can also see facility use agreements as well as field trips for the upcoming spring. And those are the items that I have for consent agenda. >> Questions? >> Personnel report, Dr. >> Yep. Personnel report. We do have one item that we are going to pull for a um
020let's see it's an uh employee extra services agreement letter B we will pull that as you can see there on the agenda but as in terms of the rest of personnel recommendations you can see one recommendation for a retirement two for resignation one recommendation for res resignation of supplement we have several employee extra service agreement approvals to be uh provided to the for uh a leave of absence, one long-term substitute recommendation, couple of schedule changes, uh supplement and stipen, and then a recommendation for volunteer coach, and three recommendations for employment and one recommendation for a reassignment and transfer. And that makes up our personnel report. >> We'll look at personnel recommendations item one. Do I have a motion to adopt? Have a second. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> Item number two, approve an
021extra service agreement. I will abstain from that since my daughter-in-law is involved in that. So, do I have a motion to adopt that? >> So, move. >> Have a second. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> Thank you. Motion is adopted. Uh we do not have any public participation. So with that being said, merry Christmas, happy new year. Do I have a motion to adjourn? I'll stand in favor.
