Pledge to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Good evening everyone. We're now open uh the meeting for public comment. This is a designated time for community members to address the board on matters before us. We welcome your input, encourage you to speak respectfully and professionally and avoid making statements about specific students or district staff members since the board only takes action regard specific students or district staff members based upon the recommendation superintendent. Your comments will be recorded in official minutes and while we value your perspectives, please understand that your opinions expressed by the members of public do not necessarily reflect the views of the board. Each one of you will have three minutes time
>> to make your statement. Like I said, you cannot make statements about teachers, students, or any of that. So, I guess Miss Roer, you prepared? >> Yeah. Stand up here. >> Good evening. My name is Jessica Roer and I'm a 2014 graduate of the England School District. I have a child enrolled at the elementary school and I'm president of the elementary school PTO. My concerns over our district starts with the support system I feel our children and teachers are not getting. Like many of our children who grad like many of your children who graduated from the school district, I had teachers that pushed me to do work and correct me when I made mistakes. They weren't all per perfect and I walked away knowing how to do math, write a paper, research information, and enjoying
being part of the Y pride. Why is it so different now? Why are we losing teachers at rapid rates? Are you guys communicating with the staff? Are you involved in these kids activities or education? The encouragement and the standards starts in this room. Our leaders are the ones that set the standards for the employees in this district. I fall short of being present in many ways, but I do spend a large amount of time at the elementary school. I want nothing but good to happen for England. I want to be part of that movement, but just a few parents can't make that happen if the people sitting at the table will not help by showing up and encouraging our staff and students as well. >> Thank you, Miss Fox. >> Yes, sir. >> You tell
me when I'm ready for >> No, my name is Micah Fox. I'm a mother of three and I currently have one child in the district. Speaking here is outside of my comfort zone, but I think that's part of the problem. I can understand why more parents don't show up to these meetings. I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted to say. And the truth is, you can't cover everything in three minutes. So, I'm going to be honest. I've lost confidence in our school district. I find myself questioning whether I'm making the right decision by sending my child here and whether my two younger children will attend in the future. I believe we have incredible teachers and staff who are doing everything they can, but there seems to be a disconnect between our
elementary school and our high school. And from a parents perspective, it feels like we're lacking strong leadership and accountability. I don't come here just to complain. I want to be part of the solution. But I need to know what can parents like me actually do to help. How can we work together to rebuild trust, restore pride in our district, and strengthen its reputation in this community? Because right now, I don't think I'm the only parent feeling this way. Thank you. >> And I'm probably going to leave because I got to go to ball. >> Mr. Bis, you ready? >> Yes, sir. I am. Hi, my name is Daryl Dumis. Um, I have three kids in the school district. Basically, I'm trying, you know, basically what they were saying, uh, man, there's no leadership within, you
know, school right now. It's the kids ask for help, they get brushed off. My kids come home complaining, mad, pissed, and asking what the teacher do. Nothing. It's It's getting to be a a problem. I mean, we need more leaders. I mean, people sitting at the desk. If y'all can communicate with the kids, see what their problems is, see what's going on at home, at school. It don't just take us. It takes a whole village. >> Whole village. >> And that's it. >> What grade are your children in? >> Sorry. >> What grade are your children? >> Did you just say the grade? >> Okay. Okay. >> 11th grade. What? First grade and fourth. >> Okay. One high school, two elementary. Okay. >> I think that's it. >> Is that everybody who wants to speak?
>> Okay. Thank you. >> We will discuss your issues. We're not going to make a We ain't doing that right. This officer do that. >> Yeah, it's time to let board officers. >> Do we do it now or do we wait till we bring somebody else on? >> Well, we can wait. I don't think it's your problem if we wait. >> One more month. Then we going to do it. In uh >> We can do it in May. >> May cuz we have somebody appointed by then, too, right? So, we have a full seven here. Yeah, we'll have somebody appointed at night. I know I'm right. >> Yeah, whatever you guys want to do. I just didn't know if we wanted to give whoever this might be the next opportunity to >> Yeah. Uh that's
fine. I don't >> Lisa, that's no problem. Is it looking at that? >> Mhm. Yeah, we are supposed to do it tonight. >> Yeah, that's being nice. Yeah, >> let's make a motion. I make a motion for Joey as president. >> Can I second that motion? You do. >> Yeah. >> Actually, this one more thing, but you actually got to do all this. I'm out. I mean, you got to ask for a recommendation. >> Do I have a recommendation for uh the position of president? >> I nominate Mr. Joanna. >> All right. Who Who will seconded that? >> All right. All in favor? >> I? >> All opposed. >> Okay. >> I'm going to do vice president. >> Vice president. Do I have a recommendation for vice president? I nominate Dylan T. >> Do we
have a second for Dylan? >> Second. >> All in favor? >> All opposed? >> Now we need uh secretary. Mhm. Any recommendations for the office of secretary nominate? Sir, Patricia. Patricia, you want it? >> Not at all. >> I I nominate Patricia Car. Uh, do I have a second? >> I'll second that. >> All in favor? >> I decline. >> She declines. All right, let's start over. Do I have a recommendation for board secretary? >> Do I have a second? >> I'll second. >> All in favor? >> All opposed? >> And then what other offices do we have? >> That's it. That's it. Just over there, sir. >> Come over here to the >> to the th check. >> You got to get a signature. You got to sign all the board minutes. >> Mhm.
>> Stop. >> Okay. And now we'll go to the consent agenda. Approve last month's meeting minutes. Any motions or corrections? >> Make a motion to approve the board meeting minutes. Second. Yeah. Second. All those in favor say I. I. Final. >> Now we approve the financial statement in our package. >> Is it Is it still sitting good right now? >> Ah, >> it's part of the consent agenda. >> Yeah. We'd have to take it off the consent agenda to discuss it. >> Second. >> All right. Any discussion? >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Uh time for our principal reports. Britney Robinson had a ball game duty tonight, so she sent her report over. It's in the board members uh packets. And Tammy, we'll hear from you. >> Mine should be in
uh the packet also. It's kind of got a color. There you go. Um elementary current enrollment is at 3:16. And then I included the April and May newsletter. It's kind of long, so excuse me on it. But the third, um, we had our makeup snow day, awards assemblies, uh, kindergarten Easter egg hunt, and then prek also had an Easter egg hunt. Um, of course, it's field trip season for the elementary school, so you'll see a lot of those on there. On the 7th, sixth grade took a field trip to 4. On the 9th, second grade took a field trip to Kofish Farm. The 13th, we had our last makeup snow day. On the 17th, first grade took a field trip to the Pine Bluff Train Museum. Um, on the 24th this Friday, kindergarten will take
a field trip to the Little Rock Zoo. We're hoping that the rain holds off so that they can have a enjoyable day. The 28th through the 1st will be our 3rd through 6th graders um, Atlas summitive testing. The 28th prek packets will be available for pickup. And then I went ahead and included May on there because time just seems to go by pretty fast so that you could have a heads up for what's coming in May. The 5th through the 8th K2 will take their Atlas summitive test. Also the 5th through the 8th is staff appreciation week and our PTO has quite a bit planned for our sta our faculty and staff. On the 6th, fourth grade will take a field trip and they're going to go see the submarine in Little Rock. That's some
place that we've never been before, but I know we all drive through and see it. So, that's pretty interesting. I think the kids will really enjoy that. Something different. Um on the 12th, um Debbie Chapman, one of our fourth grade teachers, has set up for a helicopter to come uh to the elementary. The kids can see it land back behind the school. I think it's going to land on maybe on the football field or the practice field. Um, and then they're going to get to, um, go through, look at the helicopter, and just talk to the, um, the pilot and the nurse that flies on the helicopter. So, that's pretty exciting for them. Um, on the 13th and 14th, Mr. Beckman wrote a grant for a bike program and he's been doing that with our
fifth graders this year. You may have seen them or the cones out at the front. They've been riding a lot in the grassy area and the driveway there. He's going to take them on a field trip to the Little Rock River Trail. He's doing each fifth grade class, one one day and one the next. Um, and he's got a lot of volunteers that are helping and they're just going to ride the trails along the river walk. So, we think the kids will really enjoy that. The 14th will be pre-K funday, um, pre-K celebration. The 15th will be field day. That's kind of a big a big thing at the elementary and so we're looking forward to that. On the 19th we'll have kindergarten and sixth grade graduation and awards will be in the classroom and
then on the 20th we have prek registration and kindergarten roundup and then the 22nd will be the last day of school. >> Thank you Tammy. Anybody have any questions on that? I would like to request an executive session to discuss personnel 44. Okay. Um, we have had a proposal from a uh community member to establish an England High School Hall of Honor. and I've read through the material and I think that it's a good idea. Anytime we can recognize our young people for accomplishments, we need to take every opportunity to do that. Uh I don't the the proposal is in your packets. Do we have any discussion on that? I talked to Kevin saying I did too. >> And uh told him that we would discuss it this meeting and possibly set him up to
come next meeting and give more detail. I told him just to give a pretty rough draft of it. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> And everything. And it's got quite a bit of the >> stuff already defined in the proposal. But, uh, if it's okay with everyone, we'd go ahead and and set him up with a time next meeting, the main meeting to come in and and get more detail and and everything. But it is in the packet. If you hadn't read it, go through it and see if you got any questions and and uh, you know, and we can go through it next month's meeting. >> I did get to read through it, too. And I think this is a great starting point and something that we can even build off of more >> in the
future. You know what I mean? So, >> oh, it's a it's a long-term thing. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah. It it seems to be a very good idea. Very well thought out. So, yeah, I'll look forward to hearing from him at the next meeting. Okay. Our prek tuition increase. Uh I know that that is painful to a lot of our patrons. I know everything's going up and I know it's just tough for working families. Now, Angie and I in looking at our budget for next year, we kind of did a deep dive and because we have been just frugal this year, we wound up with more ESA money left than we thought. So, I think that we can look at this and reduce that amount. Let me get in my notes here. I think we're
still going to have to go up, but not as much. So, uh, you know, hopefully that will help you out some. >> Yeah. No, it's in $50 on each. We went up from 75 to 125. >> Yeah, we're going to cut that back a little bit. Well, Angie, do you remember those figures? >> I think it's going to be like 10 or $15 to go up instead of the 50. >> 50. >> So, from 75 to what? Say to 85 90 >> and I had suggested leaving staff the same. That's up either do across the board or leave staff the same. that would just go up like I think it was $15 on the other on the >> Well, I really thought that was in my >> You know, this all depends on how much
GSA money we get the next year or what we can continue >> if we can continue to keep it down. >> We don't get any state funding for for preschool. And I do not want to go without a teacher because we're in the education business and that reduces us to the daycare business. So I I don't want to do that. But I do think we can reduce this amount by a good bit. Um >> I say it was $15. >> I think it was. Yeah. So hopefully that will help folks out some. Um, I wonder if I just left that on my desk. >> Well, either way, I mean, we would have to get the final amount and then bring it back for a vote. >> Yeah. Yeah, let's do that for May and then
maybe I we'll find the thing >> because we can go in effective next year. >> Yeah, we still have time to change it. >> And, you know, I'm I'm always open to going back and looking at an issue again. Uh, and I would encourage all of you if you ever have concerns like that, call me. I mean, I not going to bite your head off or anything. >> I can be, you know, fairly nice. >> And one thing, too, when we were talking about it even earlier was that uh we were under financial distress for the state, you know. So, it wasn't like that we were was trying to come up with numbers to penalize anyone. >> No, we don't want to do that. And you know, I >> we were looking this before and
it was cost the school district money. >> Yeah. And we can't do that because we don't get funding for it. But anyway, uh you know, I went to Stuckgart to a meeting today at noon and I stopped at Sonic on my way out of town to get some tea. It was $4. $4. So, I I know everything's going up. I'm paying a dollar and a half more a gallon for gas than I was probably a month ago, uh, six weeks ago. Anyway, but we we're going to come back with a revised figure at the May board meeting. Now, we uh have been looking at some quotes for a van. Brian, you want to talk to them about this Ford van we'd like to buy? Uh it's a nine passenger. Uh with the state with a
nine passenger van, we do not have to turn it into a bus. We don't have to put signs on it, stop signs, anything like that. And it's non CDL. The difference between a 14 passenger bus and a 9 passenger bus is almost $55,000 right now. So, I think the nine passenger is going to be used for different things, but it's uh I think it's going to help out with some transporting kids to certain things. >> And where are we going to buy this van? >> It's Master's Transportation is uh out of Kansas City. Uh they have a spot in uh Springdale. Since it's a Ford, everything will go through Ford for uh warranty. >> Yeah, >> it doesn't matter as far as that goes. >> Cheerleading that more cheerleaders than nine. I mean, >> how
are we going to How I mean, be honest, how often are we going to be able to utilize this? My next question. I mean, how many East kids usually go on a trip? Or how many cheerleaders go on a trip? Or >> do we have nine cheerleaders? >> We have 10 on. >> All right. >> So, 10 driver. So, you can't go if we go east. East. How many if we That's what I'm saying. So, >> well, we may want to look at maybe getting another short bus. >> We're sorry, but yeah. I mean, this was honestly I don't I don't know what we would use nine passing a van for. No, that I agree. >> I don't It doesn't seem big enough to me. >> How many kids can ride on a short bus?
>> Uh on a 14 without a CDL. >> Mhm. >> We with a CDL, we can buy those ex just a little bit longer and get 28. So >> on a 28 passenger bus, that's two to a seat. Mhm. >> Uh just depending on if you want CDL or nonCDL. >> Right. >> Well, uh >> and and right now we have >> look at that. >> We have two uh 14 passenger. >> Mhm. >> One of them's still in the shop and they're not having any luck with it. >> Another reason we may need to look at buying another one. >> So, uh they they cannot get the fuel system. If we had two 14s, would that would that handle pretty well everything or the two? >> So, so one of the 14s at this
moment is being used to transport kids to and from school every day. >> Okay. >> Uh so I have one person that don't have a CDL that's driving. Uh they're picking up about nine kids. Uh now like you said on the the white on the regular van that cannot be used for transporting the kids back and forth to school. >> It could just be used for >> well and another reason we may not need the nine passenger van. One of the things I had in mind for it was transporting al kids to Carile but I found out today that by state law enacted last year we don't have to have an AL anymore. So I am thinking that we uh don't want to spend that money >> and so you said but you said they
can't transport to school and stuff like that. Even if we did that we couldn't use a nine passenger van for it >> because they can't be transported to school. >> No, we could use it for that. >> Okay. >> But it couldn't be used to pick up on routes. >> No, >> I know it's a pain in the butt people getting CDLs and stuff. >> Yeah. But the uh I mean would it be more beneficial to just look into a 28 that 28 packs? >> That's my suggestion. If we're going to buy another small bus like that, I'd say a 28 passenger. That way, even though you do have that can fit in there and cheer, >> you do have to have a CDL, but it it still would be more beneficial to the school
to have one just a little bit, >> especially when we have a bus that may be pronounced dead. So we we >> baseball soft. >> Yeah, that's what I'm saying. 28 passing use it for track meetings. >> Yes, track team don't need to take that. >> Okay. Well, we will uh I'll get with you, Brian, later and we'll start. >> So X need to >> Yeah. Let's move on to the quote from the Engle fence company. Uh we've had a problem with the fence at the elementary school for a while and uh we have uh a quote over here from Engle Engle Fence Company. $2,670. And I told uh Mr. Wood to go ahead and get that started because uh that's caused you some problems, hasn't it, Tanny? >> Where are they going to run
the fence from? >> It's the existing fence that's already there, but it's damaged in many places. Um, it's been I don't know how I don't know if kids are getting in on the weekend to play on the courts or what, but it's been torn from the poles in several places. Then we have a hole in one area and then the bottom um I I'm not mechanical, but the top has a rail >> that the fence attaches to. The bottom does not have a rail and so it's being pried up and they've drilled little like holes down, but it it's just a hot mess. >> Okay. >> Yeah. We're >> You are welcome to come look at it. >> I told Mr. Woods to go ahead and uh get that going. >> Another thing is the
fence when they actually put that fence in, they actually left the ditch and stuff in. Does that ever have a problem with kids falling in the ditch getting muddy or >> Not really. They stay out of it most of the time. Now, occasionally a ball will go in it and they'll get it. But the ditch really helps with the drainage to keep them. >> I'm not saying I'm not saying ditch, but I'm just saying that we need to move the fence into the concrete away from the ditch so they can't utilize that area because I don't think it >> I I don't think it's a problem. The only thing I talked about with Mr. Woods is um there are three holes there that the high school um athletics use to turn the water off and
on. And so they have to come in through the fence to get to that. A lot of times they leave the fence open and that gate is just like hanging. Anyway, so we talked about um I think he was going to include in that quote taking the fence and doing around those holes. So those are back on the high school side behind the bleachers and off the elementary. >> I just didn't know that ditch would have an issue with kids getting mud. So, so one of the spots on that fence back on, you know, is the old fence, the football fence. That's where they cut the majority of it. Uh, not where the actual new fence butts up to it, but the old fence is I think where they cut the majority of it. >>
Some of it's about on the new, but back put in 79, I think. Are >> they talking about holes on the bottom? >> Yes, sir. All right. Uh, I need to get you to approve the quote from White River Services and Solutions for our power banks for devices and cables. If you look in your packet, that is $9,97452. >> Do we need to vote on this? >> It's under five. I just wanted you to know that we were doing okay. And I had wanted Tammy to kind of speak to that too. So, uh, White River, uh, Services and Solutions. I've done business with them for a lot of years. They're good company. And this is for our, uh, power banks for devices, portable power banks for our devices and cables. Okay. 95. >> 997452. I
hear a motion. Second, Mr. Ch second. Any discussion? >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Okay. I need to get you to approve payment to Renaissance learning renewals for the elementary and the high school. This is our software for AR and star reading and it is $5,122.15. I see multiple quotes in there. >> There's two quotes. >> Oh, was that >> one for school and one for elementary? >> Yeah. >> So, what's the difference between two quotes here? >> They're one's for high school, one's for elementary. They both need to be >> Okay. >> Well, it looks like they're the same amount. >> They one bigger. Okay. And like I said, one's the high school and one's elementary. Yeah. >> And that'll be paid for >> 5122 is that'll be >> do
it first. >> Yeah. Okay. Let me see. I make a motion to approve the first Renaissance quote. $5,122.15. >> Second. >> All right. Any discussion? All those in favor say I. >> 5. Make a motion to approve the second renaissance quote of $7,52.70. And that's for the high school. That's what same materials basically specific. >> All right. Okay. >> No discussion. All those in favor say I. All right. And we need to pay the blue path energy solar bill $10,991.79. >> You think since we keep making them come in here and we question us so much that's why it's going down. >> No, I can I mean you you can look back at other bills and the way it was >> this is significantly cheaper than what we've been paying. >> It all depends on
how much energy is used, how much credits are gi, how many credits are done. It it's a whole process, but >> pyramid scheme system. >> Well, no, but the way it was originally set up, they did not tell us when they asked for our account numbers that they needed the biggest energy usages first. They didn't tell us that. >> So, when we added the new elementary school, we realigned the order of we reassigned the order of accounts. And I think that's what's making the difference, >> okay? >> Because you're you weren't using all the credits on the smaller accounts. So now that we've got the big the bigger usage buildings, you get the credits more. That makes sense. >> So were these being credit like the last ones we quoted? I mean, the school's been
around for a minute now, the elementary. I mean, is that something we should look at that that should have been added before to get a credit from them essentially saying that like, hey, you guys didn't weren't tracking this before or >> Well, the elementary was at it was a home. >> It was a mess. >> Like police and I didn't know any we weren't part of the organization of this solar project. Got >> so we didn't know how it worked. We didn't know anything. And so we did add the elementary, but then I think it was even a year later before we were told that they needed to be like reumbered and put the bigger accounts up front. >> Okay. >> With the exclusion of the high school football lights and some of these power
packs on the outside of the building, everything on this school is LED. And then when we redid the whole high school with the new units that was all energy efficient stuff and elementary school was under new coal. So we should be using way less electricity we ever used. >> Yeah. >> And all during the summer winter time all heat is gas. Only thing you're using electricity is the blowers >> fans. Yeah. >> And this will be we're paying a year ahead of time. >> We've been voting on a quarter, but this is the cheapest one we've got. Yeah. >> But didn't he say after we have it like 10 years we could buy it or something like that? >> It'll be it's 10 or 20 and it's six. >> I think it is. >> I
don't think it be long. So >> I think >> 10 or 20. I think there's different options. >> How long it six? >> Five cuz that started when I was >> 20 when I started. >> Okay. >> Mr. Rob, you want to approve this one? No. >> So much. >> Okay. Second. >> Second. I do move. Okay. >> All right. Any more discussion? >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Okay. Next, we need to pay our virtual Arkansas bill. Uh $15,480. So, this CTE enrollments and stuff, this the online classes. >> Um, have we looked at any more? Um, I forgot what the name of that program is where you can go to like Palasky Tech, things like that, or Phillips, something like that, the construction management, welding, nursing. looking into it
being the biggest problem and I wish Britney was here tonight to address this but the biggest problem is we're four days a week and they're five days a week and it's hard to figure that out but yeah we're we're looking at it. Is that something that potentially if we did this, >> you know, kids volunteer to sign up for it because it's dual credit classes, right? >> That is it something we could just hire a bus driver to take the kids from this time this to make it a fiveday thing? >> We we could, you know, >> even though the school's only technically 4 days, >> the the kids may rebel on going 5 days a week. >> Well, I mean, it's beneficial to them. A lot of them are going to get dual credits
and I mean they'll get to graduate and >> in literally a semester have their welding certificates or Yeah. >> You know what I mean? I mean can start careers a lot faster. That's true. >> Didn't you say there would be like a year probation or something that we >> had to kind of put more things into effect. >> Well, yeah. You have to have the basic level here on our campus before you can move up to the next level. So, we have to build the foundation here. >> Right. Yeah, we we're very behind industry standards. >> We are and that's >> my kids were school. They drove to Stuckart and went to the classes over there, >> right? I know they offer like night classes and stuff like that. >> They went before school. >>
Oh, really? >> Yeah. They went like the first two periods and they came over here and finished up the day. >> Well, >> I've had a little bit of experience with that. Um >> I think state law changed a little. There have been districts that have been successfully sued about students transporting themselves to something like that and they have a wreck and then it's the school's fault. So >> So we probably should buy transportation. >> Yeah, probably. So proper side that nine passenger van >> we got the 14. We'll use the 14 and then we got now look at 28. >> Okay. We need to pay the virtual Arkansas bill. I >> make a motion to approve the virtual Arkansas bill $15,480. >> Okay. >> Second, >> Mr. Jones. All right. All those in favor
say I. I. >> Okay. On the updates, we have a board vacancy. uh Linda Tucker is has gone off the board and we've had two uh people to express interest in that. One is Mr. Dwight Scribner and he has gotten his names. he had to get 20 uh signatures of registered voters in zone 2 and he brought us those signatures today and we've sent them to the county clerk's office to verify that they are uh registered voters and then uh we've had a lady named Sioban de Heron who has just gotten in touch with us and she's getting the process started on getting her signatures. So, uh, those are the only two that we've talked with and I'm hoping we can fill that vacancy at the May meeting. And then some very good news, we
got a good legislative audit. In fact, the auditor came and congratulated Angie and me on having such a good audit. So, um, you better believe we breathe a sigh of relief over that. we uh getting this money back where it ought to be has been a daily battle. And we got a nice letter from Desi about special education. We uh meet the requirements and that's a big deal because you do not want to get crossways with the federal uh ID EA people. So that that letter is in the kind of toward the back of your folder and it explains all that. But that just in short means that we're in good shape on special ed. And I liked any nice letter from Desi. We are in the middle of Atlas testing this week and next
week. So uh that's very important to us. And we this is the time of year when it is crazy busy. I put in or the girls put in your packet a list of upcoming events with the dates. It It just gets insane this time of the year. I went to aa meeting at uh Stuckgart at noon today and they fed us lunch and talked about some upcoming things. Uh long story short, they're going to have stiffer penalties for fighting here in games. So get ready for that. And then that person, you want to do the hires first? Yeah. Okay. Hey, on personnel, uh we interviewed uh head boys basketball coach applicants and we used the uh rubric that the federal court requires us to use because we're in DC and uh BB and K law
firm approved that score sheet and we have, you know, all the scores packed up and ready, but Coach Mackey had the highest score by a good many points and uh I want to thank all my faculty and staff who served on that. That took a long time and I appreciate all of you. I know Danielle was on it and Tammy and several in here. Uh but I would like to recommend that you hire David Mackey as the head boys basketball coach for the 2026 27 school year. >> How many applicants did you say we had? Six. Well, we interviewed six. >> Interview six. We had multiple options. Interview six. >> We had a good many applicants, but a lot of them did not finish their application. They didn't send the documents we asked them to
send. And we had people who had only coached football. And, you know, we picked out what we thought were the six strongest ones. >> Did all of them have see you? >> Uh, at least they were in the process of it. And the ones from uh out of our district, we told them in the interview that if they were the successful candidate, they would have to have it before they came on contract. >> Okay. A motion, David, to be the head boys basketball coach. >> So move second. >> All right. Thank you. Mr. Ty first and seconded. Any other discussion? All those in favor say I. >> I opposed. All right. The next thing I would like to ask is that you uh restore the athletic director stipen for coach Jackson. uh being AD is
a handful work. He has to put all that stuff on Dragonfly for AAA and and do all that for all the sports. So I think it's only right if we restore his $5,000 stock. >> I make that motion. >> Second. All right. Mr. Ty, any discussion? What Angie? What's this? Is he making a statement at all right now? >> No. >> Well, just for football. >> Okay. He don't have AD. I thought I thought we I thought we had done it for 2,000. I was just making sure we're not going >> We did not have he does not have athletic director. >> Okay. And >> this will be for next school year. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah. This is for next school year. >> And then uh Nolan Winell >> Oh, I'm sorry. We
have not right. >> It's been seconded, right? >> I think she she motioned and I seconded. So, we just got to finish up. So, most in favor say I. Okay, Nolan Winchell next. Uh, Coach Chattton resigned on April the 17th and I would like to give Coach Winchell the assistant football sten that replaces Chattton stopping. and I would he he has agreed to finish out softball season for us because coach Chattton was the head softball coach and I thought we could just kind of split that stipen and give him $1,000 to finish out the season and I would also like to give him the head baseball stifen for next school year. So thousands to finish out this year. We add it now. >> And then next year him being head baseball. >> Head baseball. He
doesn't really want to do softball. >> But he's going to finish out. He's >> helping us out, right? >> Yeah, he's helping us out. And he has a CDL. >> Is that two separate ones or can we do it in one? Okay. >> Is he doing football next year? >> He's going to do football next. >> So that would be another. >> That's one. And then finishing out softball is two. And then head baseball is three. >> Okay. But the softball will be paid this year. >> Yes. The others >> the others are paid for next year. >> Yeah. >> He's helping us out of a buy. >> Sure. >> So, Chief, Mr. Jones, first and second. All those in favor say I. >> Okay. >> All right. Uh, I would ask for you to
uh I recommend that you hire Angela Jordan as a custodian. >> So move second. >> Any discussion? All those in favor say I. >> Opposed. >> All right. I recommend that we hire Shawn Carter for the England High School nurse for the 26 27th school year. >> Make a motion. >> Mr. Ty, is there a second? >> Second, >> Mr. Jones. All those in favor say I. I. >> Opposed. And I would recommend that you hire Marley Matthews for the England Elementary School nurse for the 26 27 school year. >> Okay, motion time. >> Second, Mr. Jones. All those in favor say I. >> I opposed. Next, I would recommend that we move Micah Nichols from a 210day contract to a 220 so she could take care of the farm to school grant and the
garden and the greenhouse and all that. Make a motion. All those in favor say I. oppos. >> You want to do all the last ones in one big one? >> We can. >> Okay. The following resignations. Uh Melanie Martin at the effective the end of the school year. She's going to Hazen. Lay Reid effective the end of the school year. Is she retiring? >> Yes, it is. >> She's a retirement. Okay. Debbie Chapman effective the end of the school year. She's going to Drew Central. Sherry Lance effective the end of the school year. And I believe she's a retirement as well, is she not? >> No. Okay. >> Uh Charles Chatton, effective April the 17th, 2026. Dalton Tillman resigned the day after we hired him. So, uh Addison Lee effective the end of the school
year. and Tenno Venucci effective the end of the school year. And Deborah Feay Montgomery, is she a retiring? >> She's a retire. >> Retiring effective the end of the school year. >> Okay. Any discussion for I hear a motion to accept these? >> Make a motion. >> All right. Mr. Jones. >> Second. >> Mr. Chief second. All those in favor say I. I. Oh yeah, we've got the rehire list. Uh let's do certified first. >> All these people off. >> Yeah, we've taken I think Lisa was catching that. list up till almost time for the board meeting. But I would recommend that you rehire the certified staff as listed in your um packet. Make a motion. >> All right, Mr. Jones made a motion. Second, Mr. Chief, any discussion? Right at the very back of
the vote. >> And then next. >> All right. All those in favor say I. >> Opposed. And and next I would ask you to rehire the classified staff as listed. >> I make a motion. >> Okay. M Carter made the motion to accept this. >> Second from Mr. Jones. All those in favor say I. >> I. Then we have district certified staff. That's Erica and Brandy. I would recommend that you uh rehire them. >> Make a motion. >> Second. >> All right. Mr. Time is first and second. All those in favor say I. I. Opposed. Five. And I would recommend that you rehire the district classified staff that we have listed here. >> Make a motion. >> Mr. Time made a motion. I hear a second. >> Second, >> Mr. Jones. All those in favor
say I. >> I. I. >> Oppos. >> And then I would recommend that you rehire the hippie staff. M. >> Lewis. I see a second. >> Second. >> Mr. Jones. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. >> And then lastly, I would ask you to uh rehire the district bus drivers that are listed there in your packet. >> So this second >> second. All those in favor say I. I. Oppos. Five. Every possible motion. Yes. Is that everything we have on our agenda? >> Is that everything we have on our agenda? >> So before we close out. >> Yeah. >> We know that everything doesn't work right. you know, the their procedure when you've got a problem is to go talk to the principal and then, you know, if they can bring
this teacher in if there's a specific teacher or whatever. Dr. Hubble came in at a tough time. She got here kind of late anyway, but uh got here for the start of the school year and there had been very little supervision the two years previously and we were aware of it. She was aware of it when she came in even when she interviewed. Uh and we are striving to make changes. But uh if y'all could tell someone what the specific problem is with a teacher or whatever, you know, it may be something going on that the principal don't know about, but if you could do that and you know, you are welcome to come to any board meeting, sign up and and talk. Uh but you know sometimes we need specific things and everything and
we're glad parents are are part of it and wanting to be part of it being in the PTO and and all that and everything. Uh you know we we as a board do what we can but we don't micromanage and and you know but we we talked during that uh not much between meetings with Dr. trouble and and and things, but you know, specific things helps when there's a problem of knowing, okay, this needs fixing and everything, but but the the procedure is that, you know, uh, of course, like I said, you can come to any school board meeting you want to. That's the reason we have the open forum. But, you know, we just we need something that that we can sink our teeth into about about specific problems. >> Have y'all got any
I want to add to um I appreciate you guys actually speaking. This is actually the first one in a long time that I don't think I've ever had since I've been on I've had anybody come and do public comment. So, I appreciate it and uh um sorry, sir. What was your name again, sir? >> Daryl. Daryl. >> Uh I appreciate you speaking. I actually feel a lot of the same way you feel. You know, it's the reason why I came onto the school board, right? Um I will say seeing this from an inside, I I see a positive change rolling. Um change doesn't happen overnight. Uh and I think we're going to see even more changes over this next school year that in a positive direction. Um but I agree. Uh, I do appreciate I
just want to say I appreciate you guys actually speaking the emails. Um, I do think we could get more even more specific to what it this specific problem if we can lower it down um so that you know it can be corrected by them and if it's not corrected by them then please by all means I mean bring it to us um but giving the principles and the superintendent a chance but um it's our job to hear your guys' voices too. So and we appreciate you guys speaking. and I'll be happy to sit down and talk with any of you anytime. Be glad to and we'll do everything I can to address whatever issue you have. >> But um I have to have specifics or I don't know what to do. >> But we as
a board have have seen lots of changes just in this one year for the positive in our eyes of of things that are starting to take shape now. And uh it's like an aircraft carrier. You can't turn it around all at once. You've got to to it's a slow process and and everything. And I'm I'm not making excuses. U you know, but again, you know, we're we're glad y'all came and and showed the the desire. Our desire is just like y'all is to make this the best school district we can. do what's best for the kids and do what's best for the school. And I promise you that that that is taken into consideration, but but you can't change it overnight with some of the things that gone on the two previous years from now.
>> Something on your mind? >> Okay. Y'all saying y'all seen a change? Do y'all actually know what these kids want? Have y'all actually talked to these kids? >> This is where I agree with you a lot. We can't say specifics of names or anything like that. Um, >> partially this is where I agree. I This is where I agree with you. I think there needs to be more of a person. There's a disconnect. Someone said there's a disconnect between EES and EHS. I feel like and I feel it's very much the same way. Um, but I I do feel like there's a personal connection. we especially as a small district, a rural school school district that we can take advantage of is our kids getting to know our kids personally a little bit better knowing
when we can just seeing just their motions every day that we can see something off in them, you know. Um I I think there's that we can do better as a district. Um but I I do believe it takes uh a positive role in leadership and I think we're getting there. Um I think uh Dr. Hubble is actually holding people very much accountable. Um, and I'm sure if you talk to a lot of our teachers of rideups, things like that, um, it's happening, but I mean, you just can't fix everything in one swift motion. It doesn't have that, you know, and, uh, I I I hope you guys can trust that we are trying to make that positive change cuz I'm one that has a kid as a sixth grader going to go to be
a seventh grader and I I feel it. You know what I mean? I I I feel it and I'm worried. Um but I I'm I'm putting a lot of faith in our superintendent, our high school principal, um and hoping that we can continue a positive change to make that happen because I'm in the same boat you guys are. So, >> well, I feel that um like you said, do we know a killing shouldn't happen at a school before you get all the counselors in ask the kids how you feeling? Tell me what you're thinking. Do anybody in this room realize what happened to them boys when their coach was taken? >> You know the first thing I said asking about the counselor to come. >> Nobody knows what's going on in them kids and nobody
want to talk about it. But this is the society we're living in that we rather get together and talk about somebody got killed. >> Somebody shot up the school. Okay, we're going to send counselors in. New one shot up the school. But you hurt them kids. They hurt them boys when they took their coach. And you can't just put a coach in, Coach Mackey in and think everything's going to be okay. >> Nobody took their coach. >> Their coach left. >> Okay. >> Didn't the police take them? The police took the the coach. >> But it hurts. >> But there's nothing we can do about it. >> I know it's nothing but this is the the kids. We talking about the children. >> I agree. >> You have to get some counseling in for these
kids. >> We did make counseling available for them. the next day. >> Okay. So, >> the next day, but what about >> when it happened on it hurt? This is going on every day. And this what hurts me cuz I'm thinking this. What is going on with the kids? What are they thinking? We expect these kids to be like robots. Get out there and play. Win for for England. Win for England. But there are emotionally broken. >> They're not equipped to handle the emotional. >> And it hurts. That's all I could do is pray for them. But these kids are hurt. They're broken. >> So, what can we do about that? >> Some kids can't go home and talk to their parents. >> No, they can't. >> When I was young, I didn't go home
and talk. I talked to teachers that I felt comfortable with. Uh, coaches, superintendent, stuff like that. I see nobody in the district doing that. Nobody. It see like to me the district just want the kids in trouble. That's what it feel like to me. I mean everybody I know y don't but that's the way my personal feeling like >> but we do nothing to try to keep them you know what I'm saying >> we used to have all type of programs >> we don't have that no more >> yes >> don't have programs after school programs ting >> miss Linda Brown had no type of program >> none of that is here now >> so ain't nothing to do but to get in trouble >> and there's uh uh Mr. Dare uh he's the FCA
Christian Athletes guy. Uh I think there's ways we can go ahead in the future with um some of these things and it's not just the athletics portion. I know there's a huge piece of it. There's a lot of it. Um and unfortunately the school has to take on a much larger role. >> Yeah. >> Uh than what it's probably had to do in previous years um and a lot of its outside influence, parenting, things like that. Um, but I agree with you guys wholeheartedly with that. These kids aren't equipped to handle the emotions they were dealt with. And that's why I said the thing about the counseling thing. Um, but >> I do think and maybe that's something we have to look at and micromanage in a sense as a board. But, um, >> when
it comes down to it, but >> no counsel. >> Yeah. >> I I think we there's a lot we can learn from this year. Um, >> yes, sir. >> And not just holding athletes to a higher standard. and it's coaches, um, athletic directors, teachers, counselors, all of it to a higher standard than we have in the past. So, and I agree with you guys that. So, >> and I mean, if if I can help come in, talk to the students, you know, it's leaders out here. It's just >> that's I think some of what Mr. uh, >> Scribner, >> that's part of what Mr. Scrier, this uh, >> EHS Hall of Honors, that's part of that. um that he was talking about and that's something I think and it's not just athletics uh it's academic
people have gone and be successful in their careers that can come and talk to these kids and give them kind of a positive out >> you know >> and not just reward them in school but reward them for what they do out of school you see that's the thing a lot of people don't know what they do out of school I I know a lot of them you know >> a lot of them come to my house we talk but they don't have their and it, you know, I agree. Like I said, I think you guys are going to see even more change. Like I said, can't happen overnight, but maybe it's something the board also needs to hold more accountable and look over more micromanaging. I agree with a lot of what you guys
are saying cuz I'm in the same boat. Sixth grader going into the seventh grade and I'm scared. I'm worried about it. >> Yeah. I I I've sh sh sh sh sh sh sh sh sh sh sh sh sh sh sh sh sh sh sh sh shielded my child from society a lot and he's about to be his door is about to be open a lot more. So, >> Coach Mackey and I talked to him several times. I mean, we were all surprised when what happened with Coach Morgan. It caught us all by surprise and but now he did his best to counsel those kids. Put a little bit of talking about Jesus in with it and everything. He did what he could to do it and all but you know there's only so much that
that one person can do. >> You know talking and relating is two different things though. I can talk to a kid off day, but if that kid and me and that kid don't relate to each other, we don't, you know what I'm saying? >> But you're not always going to have that. But a kid, they went through a traumatic point. >> They did. >> They But so you're asking a young kid that just went through something very traumatic to open their heart to be vulnerable to somebody completely new. Um, and that's hard. That whether a kid accepts that or not, that's that's what I'm talking about. These emotions they're not quite equipped to handle. Um, so I'm not gonna fault Mackey saying he didn't do a good job because he he tried whether a kid
>> Yeah, he did do a good job, >> right? You know what I mean? And I I personally agree, you know, that he did a very he was probably our best choice for these kids to even try to get to state. Um, as far as coaching wise, I personally feel that the man has plenty of titles that he's won and is moved. But I I wouldn't I don't want to discredit what he did this year to try to help it. But we're asking kids that went through a very traumatic time to be vulnerable to somebody completely new. And that's hard to it's hard to ask. That's it's a big question. So, anything else? >> We're not on opposite sides. No, we're not. No other comments. Any other board members got a comment? Okay. I say
this meeting's adjourned. >> Make a motion to adjurnn. >> Okay. >> You learn it, Mr.
