In this regular meeting for June the 15th, I've got 6:02 p.m. First thing on the agenda is public comments. Anyone? Nobody? Okay. Moving on to the Everybody looked at the minutes from the regular meeting on the 18th. Anybody have any questions or concerns or corrections? If not, I need a motion to approve them. >> Motion. >> And I need a second. I'm going to have a motion and a second. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. Moving on. >> All right. Financial report. I'll go over the legal balance first. Uh shared that with you in the board notes for fiscal year 23 to 26, we closed May of 26 with a little over 1.7 million. Which was 466,000 more than what we closed in 25. You kind of see
a deal in 24, that's when we started after that we started driving to pick up our check. It got lost in the mail. And so that's where the big drop is there. But uh looking at expenses, expenses were down in May compared to last year, 32,900 $37. And revenue was up $150,000. And if you look at your check register, you'll see we made our bond payment. Uh and then that's really the only major expense. We did have some freezer issues at the elementary school that cost us about $2,500. So >> I asked about this when you were showing me around campus. Is that I guess those freezers are specifically designed to be outside under a carport? >> As far as I know. >> That just seems I mean, I'm sure they I'm sure that they
make them to be just put outside. The one at the high school is obviously shaded and all that, so I could see that one being fine, but it just seems like that one at the elementary school I'm on the same I'm talking out of school here. It just It just seems inefficient. I don't know when they purchased those. I'm trying to remember. It's been since in the last 10 years or so, but I don't Yeah. We had that discussion, but I can't re- Yeah, I can't remember the outcome. Uh yeah, I'd love to I'll do a little bit of research on what what that model is and whatnot. It's just I'm just curious if while we're looking in the the scope of doing various improvements, if figuring out a way to Right. Now, you know,
I I'm sure you can't fully enclose them because there's got to be ventilation stuff for all the whatnot, but it may may be something that you know, gives them a longer life if they had a little more protection from the weather. Yeah. So, okay. And then, uh I had another quick question. So, not to harp on stuff that's not huge again, but I I I just feel like that elementary I know you said the elementary gym water bill includes the 86 wing. It's There's a toilet running or something in there. It's 700 something dollars. >> We did have a toilet running, too, and I don't know what the football fields are on that one, too. >> It may be okay. The football field? >> I'm I may have to check that and see. >> Okay.
Well, it was 700 something bucks, and then if you look at like the high school gym, it was like 100 something, which makes a lot more sense. So, you know, again, if it's a one-off thing, Right. 5 600 bucks isn't a big deal, but if that happens all year, it's 6,000. >> Oh, I I promise you. >> So, just something that we might want to check on. >> Well, if it includes that wing and/or the football field, that's [clears throat] still high, but compared to the high school, I'm assuming that's the building itself at 684. That That would be If you added them all up, that would be >> Yeah, I was >> high for just that one particular >> will say yes. I mean, we'll we'll see if there's a leak for sure cuz
this one coming up, we didn't have kids in it. You know, we still have kids in this. >> Mhm. Yeah. So, like the high school gym says 121 bucks. If you you know, counted up all the toilets in the locker rooms and the out in the lobby and everything else, it's probably not a lot fewer toilets that's in [snorts] the 86 wing and that the two or three that are in the elementary wing. >> we locked We locked them once up front. >> Yeah. >> And and so they don't use it. And I will say basketball didn't do a whole lot of anybody. >> Yeah. >> So, that's one reason. It'll probably The high school gym will probably more in June [snorts] than it is in May. I could be wrong. >> Well, all the
other expenses I thought looked in line and made a lot of sense. That was just one small one that >> Which what is the total of that one? You know, >> Uh it's right here in the second line. >> It just says elementary. >> Yeah. >> Got you. >> I guess you could go back to the the bills that go to that. >> And I will look and see what it was last year as well. >> You know what that We always have small questions about stuff like that and the gas. Seems like the gas is erratic sometimes. >> Yeah, well, I noticed that you know, we talked about gas last month and this month they're a lot lower. So, >> Yeah, I noticed that, too. >> Um >> They've got to be behind on
there. >> Could be. >> know how behind they are. >> Yeah. >> And if they read their meter every >> Right. >> month or whatever. >> [clears throat] >> Well, they don't own whales, I can tell you that. Cuz they got one of mine all messed up. But anyway, moving on. If everybody's [laughter] And then building fund, I you you got a print off on that and there was no [snorts] expenses in May out of the building fund. Does anybody anybody have any questions? Any more about the any of the financials? If not, I need a motion to approve them. >> Motion. >> Second. >> I have a motion and a second. All those in favor say aye. >> Aye. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. >> Okay, so action items. The first thing on action
[snorts] items is our 26 27 school choice list and I shared that with you and you got the schools that they're coming from. They just filled out the paperwork. Some have not been enrolled yet. I looked at that today, but we've got 12 coming into the district and two out of the district, so I ask you to approve the school choice list as presented. >> You know, I need a motion for what Mr. Whymark just said for this list of school choice students as presented. >> Motion. >> Second. >> I have a motion and a second. All those in favor say aye. Any opposed? >> I do have a question about that. The kinder is that are those kindergarteners counted in our >> They haven't enrolled yet. >> They have not enrolled yet. >> But
>> [snorts] >> I think we lost two in the in the kindergarten group and picked up four. >> Okay. >> How many are we at on kindergarten? >> Uh 30. >> So would that make us 34? >> Uh 33. >> 33. Okay. >> It's a steal fund. >> But you never know till the last >> No, you >> Well, after the two weeks after, really. >> Yeah. >> And we didn't get our contract from Sunshine School, but we've got another student that's going to be attending Sunshine. He's an eighth grade student. So I I ask that you approve one eighth grade student to attend the Sunshine School for 26 27 school year. That's at a top a cost of 12,400 per semester and we pay it each semester. So, that gives us three kids uh
for a total of $37,200. And y'all already approved those two. So, it's just that one student to be approved. >> Anybody got any questions about that one? Really can't ask many. Um then I need a motion for as presented. >> Motion. >> Second. I have a motion and a second. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? >> Who made the motion on school choice? >> I did. >> Who seconded? >> I think Mark. >> Uh Caleb was that. >> Caleb, okay. Okay, the next thing is the approval of the 2026-2027 salary schedule. Uh it still follows the same deal. There's no changes to it from last year. >> Any questions about that one? >> [clears throat and cough] >> If not, I need a motion to approve the 2026-2027 salary schedule as presented.
>> Motion. >> Second. >> I have a motion and a second. All those in favor say I. I. Any opposed? >> Okay, I shared with you the football parking lot project and which includes the elementary. You saw that it went up and and [snorts] oil prices are going up. I'm not I'd like for you to table this. And and I and I say that because we got a 45-day window. I'd like to reopen it. We may not get it done by football season, but you know, hopefully oil prices go down. So, I'd like to just table that and put it off and this may be a project that we attack in the spring. >> So, I've got a couple comments that you know, you and I have been talking a little bit about some of
these projects. So, Alan and I visited recently too and we were just kind of talking about let's think through and prioritize some of these projects and we specifically talked about, you know, this project. We talked about um the roof on the maintenance shed that you we've since talked to you about, Mr. Waymire. And so, I think one of the important things um I've had a few people in the community that have talked to me just trying to [snorts] figure out what all we're thinking about or what all we're doing. And so, I don't, you know, if anyone is listening out in the community, I think one of the mis- uh conceptions is when they hear us talking about, you know, doing this project [clears throat] at the football fields or doing this project at the
elementary school or wherever, um that those are competing dollars with the general fund budget, and why should why aren't you doing this for the teachers or that? So, I just think it's important for, you know, I know our group understands, but I think it's important to vocalize that these are monies that were specifically funded into the bond fund, segregated monies, um that were from that August 2025 issuance of general obligation bonds. There's, you know, there was 5.8 or so million dollars that was um issued back then. That money is completely separate from the general fund in that um it comes from um tax proceeds from a dedicated property tax. That money can only be used for capital improvements. And so, it is explicitly by law um restricted from a lot of different uses. The only
The only thing that we can do with that money is capital improvements, um whether that be, you know, new acquisition or repair uh to existing facilities. And so, you know, we've talked about different projects. I think the the things that I've talked about some with Alan and and with you, Mr. Waymire, and and and even uh Caleb and and Nikki some as well, is when we're prioritizing these, the you know, safety and security, and um and how we uh accommodate the students and teachers is, you know, number one. And so some of the projects that we've [snorts] already done, the HVAC goes a long way towards doing that. You've got the vegetable for the elementary school which is a big safety thing which is >> chiller. >> in in loop. Um, the entryways on at
the high school again are um, you know, modernization but they're a safety measure as well. So there's a handful of different things that we're talking about. Um, Alan specifically talked to me about you know, the the roof of the maintenance building and frankly I just don't drive that way enough and then once um, I parked over there for the mosquito fest parade I was like I don't know how I've been missing that but it's terrible. But you know, I know Mr. Weymar's been uh, meeting with um, some potential roofing companies that they're going to look at that. So all that to say the bucket of money is highly restricted. Um, my personal uh, view on when I'm looking at stuff like the football field parking lot it is let's prioritize and make sure that we
that we're not attacking some of those things and not making room for the other really really important things like some of the things Alan brought up to me. Um, and so I feel comfortable after talking with Alan and then talking with you and talking with uh, some of these contractors. Um, we met with a painting company today about doing some of the cosmetic um, upgrades at the elementary school that he's going to give us a quote. We're going to call a couple more. So I think there's a handful of different things that we're actively looking at so that if anyone in the community is concerned that hey, we've got an over emphasis on an athletic or we've got you know, that the safety things for the students is is being tended to and that is
a focus. Um, the things like the roof of the maintenance shed, those are things that we're actively you know, looking into and and going to address. And so this is another highly visible um, project that we're looking at that we think is prudent to tackle and is something that makes sense for us given the budget that we have. So, I just because I've had a handful of people out in the community talk to me and have misconceptions about why are y'all doing this with or the money or that, I just wanted to kind of get that out there on an open forum and say, "Hey, this is and Allen had specifically [snorts] asked me to really dig in on some of that." So, I told him I'd be happy to, but um uh it is
something that I feel good about now that especially that you and I have talked about some of these other projects and I know that you've been talking to different contractors about getting some of these in the works as well. So, I'm excited about the whole body of work that we've got, you know, ahead of us. >> There's [clears throat] the On that, there's a lot to be done and this has been on the This is not necessarily a bucket list. It's just a >> Yeah, >> You got to start somewhere. >> we did the when we did the millage campaign, we did talk about this project. >> Yeah, yeah, we did. >> Yeah, at least >> specifically. Yeah, and I actually was reading back through the official statement of the bond today and it does
specifically mention a lot of these projects that that we're talking about. So, again, [snorts] that money is is capital improvement restricted and so that's just something that I think um when we hear people in the community that have concerns about why are we doing this or doing that and not doing something else with that money, it's just important for us to be aware of the facts so that we can speak to them and and make sure they know that we are being prudent with those dollars. They're just explicitly restricted for that purpose. >> Good. >> Yeah, pretty much. >> Well said, Mark. >> [snorts] >> I guess what's what's next? >> Okay, the next is the ticket booth restroom at the football field. Uh we have to run that for 14 days. I shared the
design of it. Uh if we want to go forward with that, we need to it could go in the paper and we can start taking CLBS to kind of see where we're at if y'all are good with that design. So, that's definitely different than what I was thinking. Like, why are we doing two different buildings? Well, see well, one, this will have its own AC and heat and these will have split units. >> The bathrooms? >> Yeah, so the ticket booth is real simple and it is a simple I mean, it's going to have two deals. It's going to have split units in it. There's no water, anything like that. >> Mhm. But, to me it just seems like you could do one structure even if the front part was simple and and if and
if you already have if you have central heat and air back here >> I know per square footage he told me that bathroom's going to be quite a bit higher. >> Well, yeah, per square foot, but if they're connected, that's still cheaper construction than two separate facilities. I mean, the cost of the restrooms I wouldn't extend to this just cuz they're under the same roof. If anything, it's less materials to consolidate it into if if we have the space. >> Well, I was thinking that the walk-through was going to be set up so where you have the ticket booth on on both sides when you needed two sides and it was going to be a long enough walk-through to where you had men's restrooms on one side, women's restrooms on the other side and it
was going to be wide enough >> that so it won't be two adjacent buildings. >> Well, the the image that No, the image that you sent had kind of a breezeway and then it had two kind of structures with a common you know, roof across it and so if that >> I can have him rebuild it. I mean, or redraw it. I just want to know >> what you're saying. You like just a longer breezeway. A longer one longer building with a longer As you walk through you have we have an amenity. >> and if we go if we do go longer we're going to get on that track. >> That [clears throat] can be the only >> Yeah, and this is just eyeballing it, but to me it looks like if you if that's
if this is to scale, it looks like there's space here to put that here. Um >> And I'm assuming I don't look at these every day, but I'm assuming that's I know that's a sidewalk, so that'll be a concrete pad that size. So, we have If you just turned Of course, it may have to be totally different, but if you just turn the restrooms kind of just to the end of the building, it still doesn't It looks to me like it I don't know. I'm not an I'm not an architect. >> help you do it. And the other thing is just I think visually it just starts to look a little clunky to have a bunch of little buildings everywhere, whereas if we had just a nice uniform one breezeway ticket booth restrooms on each
side and then straight out into this sidewalk. I thought that was what the the plan was, so this would just kind of >> other issue that I would see would be traffic issues. >> Well, yeah. And so, I was I was thinking that the breezeway the ticket booth would have, you know, windows as you walk through and the doors on the restrooms would be on the ends, so they're not in the breezeway. Yeah, so you're not having people having to come back into the breezeway to go to the restroom. You've got access You could even be on the side on each side to where it doesn't conflict with your traffic, but if you did it that way, you also if you've got central heat and air in this, if that's the plan, then you could
just do a couple of duct drops into the ticket booth and you don't even need the mini splits because it would just you you would have the the capacity already. So, you know, I don't know. >> I mean, y'all tell me what y'all think. >> I I I I like the concept of the ticket booth. I like it with the bathrooms. I think the bathrooms is important to the whole project, especially, you know, it it it sounds like based on some conversations that Sloan Valve is going to uh donate all the toilets, urinals, sinks, um all the fixtures associated with I think not only this, but also under the home bleachers as well. They've communicated that to us. >> to say what the square footage on this ticket booth is supposed to be. >> So,
yeah, if we can I don't want to slow us down cuz I know on that side of it, but also don't think we want to get into >> the bathrooms won't be ready. I think that the ticket booth has a good shot to be ready, but it won't be if they're connected. And I might be upset. >> It's a It's going to be there for a long time. It'd just be good to get it right. >> Right. No, I agree. >> I thought that, but if you want to go like you're talking to, whatever it may be, just add it on to the ticket. >> Yeah. >> Yes, where's that original Is that something we had gotten last month or maybe you just showed it to us? >> No, I shared it with you. >>
in the Yeah, I shared it with >> Yeah, it was somewhere. >> It was on one of the uh regular meetings. >> If it's going to If you're worried about it getting into the track, can't you just >> I mean, we could. I mean, what I'm thinking as administrator, I don't you know, one, I people coming in and you know, we want to flush them out. You know, I just want to make sure the flow's good. And with this at an angle, if I'm a visitor, unless I got to go to the bathroom, I'm going right. >> Yeah. I I I think if it's connected and the doors are either at the end or on the sides, you have end up having the exact same thing cuz if you have visitors coming acrossways, they're going
to be interfering with the traffic of people coming through the breezeway of the ticket booth. I just to me it seems like it makes more sense to connect it. >> Did you know found out how many square feet? >> That's what I'm working on. >> Okay, I got you. >> Did you find it? I couldn't find it. Yep. >> So, y'all would rather look like that. >> I thought that was way other plan. I don't know how this would look if it didn't look like that. >> Telephone number. I guess that would just be longer and you're saying more images be >> Yeah, it'd just be a little bit deeper. >> [clears throat] >> And if we ran into I don't I You just said something about if we ran into the track, but I
didn't hear what you said after that, but >> It's just if you were worried about it running into the track, you just move it over >> [clears throat] >> Yeah, I mean I don't think you >> have to move it real far. >> These you know, this this drawing of this bathroom and these are very hard for me to read, but this these are you know, this that's the one that was in the in the packet it that for the restrooms as designed, that's showing um just over 20 almost 27 ft outside diameter or I'm sorry, outside length. >> Mhm. >> Um and so you know, that gives you not that you can look at that initial and tell a whole lot, but again to me [snorts] I feel like there's enough room there to
position it with a similar design to what we previously looked at and have it connected. >> Let me just do this. I'll just we'll do We don't have to vote on this and >> Well, can we can we This is a question I don't know the answer. Can we approve it subject to coming to agreement on the final design with the architect because if he can send us a revised design and we're happy with it. >> We would still have to meet and approve like totally approve the We still have to have a I mean we could >> Can we can we can we approve a ticket booth and restrooms subject to satisfaction with the final design as presented by the architect. Do we have to have an actual drawing that we said yeah, that's
the one we chose. >> I mean we don't have we can meet at 12:00 and approve this. >> Yeah, see that's not anything to do with personnel. We could do a just a real quick. >> It could be a real quick. >> don't think it would I don't think it would help anything. I'd rather not do it that way. >> act on it. >> Okay. >> But you think [clears throat] he can get us a drawing pretty quick? >> Yeah, I'll call him personally in the morning because he was wanting to post it Sunday. >> Yeah. Yeah, it >> Okay. >> And he's I mean if they can get us a drawing real quick one day this week even if everybody >> So what we're wanting is one building. Kind of like the picture he
just showed us, but >> What when when did I send that? >> That was in May. >> I started to say I was going to ask you that too cuz I didn't >> Yeah, that was the May board meeting. >> Okay. Okay, and that's where it's at. >> reach out to him. So let's not act on that and then like I said >> We'll just get together real quick. >> 12:00 though. >> No, April 21st. >> I started to say I don't see it on that one. >> Yeah, April. It was a separate email. >> And will be in code with these bathrooms and then our old ones. Right. >> Well, we're we're going to do work on the >> the old the old ones. >> Yeah, it makes sense. >> But I will say
this, we I don't know if we're going to be able to touch those cuz I don't know the time frame to get on. You know what I'm saying? Cuz our first >> when I talked to you. >> It's like September the 3rd, isn't it? Or something? >> That's if Pee Wee doesn't have a game before that. >> Oh, okay. >> Cuz I think Pee Wee played pretty early last year. It was a Tuesday night, yeah. >> Yeah, cuz they changed them to Tuesday nights, didn't they? We got about that. >> [clears throat] >> And so, I'll get that to you as quick as possible. The The last thing that's just ASBA recommended policy changes. Next month, I'll make If y'all approve these, I will add these to our current policy and present all policies to
be voted on then. >> [snorts] >> So, you need a motion to >> to accept the ASBA recommended policy changes for the upcoming year. >> Thank you, Mark. So, can I get a motion to approve the ASBA recommended policy changes? Basically, it's just pretty much standard policy. >> Cut and paste. >> Policy. >> And some of them didn't need board action, but I wanted y'all to see them. >> Do I have a motion? >> Motion. >> Second. >> I have a motion and a second. All those in favor say aye. >> Aye. >> Any opposed? >> [clears throat] >> All right, superintendent report. We ended the school year with 501 kids, 19 pre-K. Uh, last year we had 540. Next year we're going to be funded for 513.09 students, uh compared to 551.1 last year.
We are closing. We actually got approval of closing our federal budget this year, and now we're working prelim federal budget and working out closing operating budget. Uh attendance incentive in May, uh 7 out of 27 for classified, certified was 18 out of 52, and we had eight out of 10 drivers with perfect attention or And then, I talked to some of you about this. This is just a discussion thing. You know, we're we're no different than anybody else that we're losing kids. And so, I'm busy with superintendents and was at a conference. And this is just something that we can talk about in July. But, a lot of people are going to a virtual academy, and the co-op in Pine Bluff, they offer what they call the virtual academy at the river. They provide teachers
for K-6, and then 7-12 is online. You know, I've kind of got mixed emotions on this. You know, we want to keep our kids in. Cost factor is about 25 to 2700 a kid. You know, cost Losing kids is tough. You lose kids, you lose people. But, you know, my concern, we start opening in this because they will be in e-school as McCrory school kids. And they would walk at our graduation, they would do all that at our graduation, but the more kids we have leave our buildings, the less faculty we need. And so, it's kind of a double-edged sword. You're losing kids, but you know, it it could it could make it worse, but I just wanted y'all to have that as some information. I'm going to visit with them. I'm going to visit
with some schools that are using them in Northeast Arkansas just to kind of see the services provided, but I wanted to at least let y'all look at it, do some research, and kind of go from there. And and we'll talk about it more in July. Any questions? Okay, the bleacher project, didn't know if you had a chance, that's completely done. Our security vestibule, they're going to start work hopefully June 18th. Uh the high school entryways, they're going to be here the week of July 13th or July the 20th. It'll take them a week to complete that project. Uh we're getting quotes on the paint project. The maintenance building, had a guy go today and he said that he wouldn't put his workers on it. That was his his deal. He said he wouldn't do it.
And so, I'm going to call some other people just to kind of see where we're at. Uh whenever they redid that building, basically what is it, attack it or whatever that term is what they use. Well, when they came in, they didn't do it way it was originally done. They kind of put foam and then put those metal sheets, and he literally said, "I would not put my workers on it." >> Hm. I think it would be uh So, I know you said you're going to get a couple other or some other I think it'd be definitely helpful to hear second opinion. This the roofer that you're talking about is a good one. I've used him on a lot of different buildings, so I don't doubt what he's saying. Sometimes there's more than one way
to skin a cat, so there's, you know, maybe some other um company has an idea that has to be addressed. Yeah, I mean, you can't you can't leave it like it is, and if we're going to continue to use it as a maintenance building, it's got to be fixed. So, um I I do think it makes sense. I mean, would any of our local contractors I mean I think it'd be worth having some of them come by and look too. Um you know, this is money that's coming from tax proceeds in the community to the extent one of the local contractors has interest and ability in doing it, be great to be able to use some of our local contractors on something like that. Um so I know all of us know you know some
that are in the community. We we might think about you know, getting you connected with some of those and see if we can have a few different people look at it and compare some options. >> I'm all for [snorts] it. >> I [clears throat] I wondered how how bad a shape it was in because it's not just that part, but it was bad before they put the tin on it. So it just for a structurally sound up but if you get >> I've not been up there I know. >> Yeah, and then you know >> not going up there either so >> Yeah, and so then I think you know, the analysis gets pretty simple. If someone gives us a bid and it's you know, you basically have to demolish the entire roof structure and
put a whole new roof on it and you start to [clears throat] look at the cost of that versus >> Building a whole new building? >> building similar like the bus garage or a metal you know, red iron type structure that you know, is conceivably comparable in price but brand new. So you know, but we won't know until we get some bids. >> Is it just something used for storage? >> Yeah, that's all. >> So we can do without it so >> On that end? >> Yeah. >> Is that all they're using that facility for? >> So we can do without it. >> Huh? >> Can we do without it? >> Well, we store stuff in there. I mean but you know, I want to say >> What? >> Isn't that where we keep the
little tractor and all that good stuff? >> On the front end. The tractors on the back end. >> I'm hearing that thing down. I think it has asbestos in it too. >> Oh. >> So that's another story. >> Just make just it's more money. >> Custodial staff, they should finish the elementary this week and then moving to the high school. And then let's see. Handbook changes I'll let coach go over those things. I do have a Mr. Houston's here with us. He's been working hard. He's going to talk a little bit, but he's been working with Ms. Johnston coming up here with coach and myself. Uh we got a board meeting that is scheduled for July the 13th. We're required for the summit since he's a beginning administrator that he's got to be at that
on the 13th. And so, I've got to be there on the first day, which is the 13th. We can move it. Nikki, I know you said you had a uh booster club on 16th, correct? >> Um yeah, but we can >> I mean, we could do the booster club at 5:00 or we can move it to the 20th. >> Um I would It would be better for me for the 20th. >> July 20th? >> Uh-huh. >> It's working for me. That's far out. I couldn't tell you anyway. >> Cuz Monday would be better for you on Friday. Monday's >> Monday, yeah. I'm actually leaving on Tuesday. >> Okay. >> That'll be good. >> And so, I'll go Ms. Johnston, she's not with us today, but she told you we had four third graders that were
being tested or going to summer school, and they'll be retested on the Atlas. They take that tomorrow, and we should know in a week or not where they perform. So, hopefully uh those will advance. Class sizes, right now we're at 30 students in kindergarten, 45 in first grade, 48 second, 42 in third, 50 in fourth, [snorts] 40 in fifth, and 28 in sixth grade. Total enrollment is 283. It's the first time we've been under 300 since I've been here. Uh elementary handbook, I'll go over some of these things that she's changing. Homework is weighted at 15% of the total grade. Daily work will be weighted at 25% of the total grade, and exams are 60% of the total grade. And this lines up better with the high school. I know that you know and I'll
let Mr. Houston talk about this, but we had a we had some success with lunch with parents and I think there's going to be certain days based on grades that they can eat with parents. And then the one thing that they did they did prohibit energy drinks. In the old lunch box. And so no no energy drinks. >> They don't need the caffeine or the sugar. It looks like a good idea. >> Yeah. >> [snorts] >> And then merit pay came out merit pay came out for teachers that either was teaching in a desired subject or showed growth and we're not supposed to announce those. That's Jeremy, if you want me to take it. >> Yeah, go for >> Hey now. >> Hey, I'm at a board meeting and they had some questions about design.
And I'll kind of I'll let I'll let them talk if you don't mind and all right. >> Just look Mark Mark's got it down. Just look >> Hey Jeremy, this is Mark Killingsworth. We were looking at the design and we definitely like the bathrooms and the ticket booth both being part of the project. >> Yeah. >> The way that it's kind of set up right now it looks like you've got the ticket booth kind of a walk-through and then off kind of catty-corner the bathrooms are there. We we'd like to see if it was possible the first design we looked at had kind of a breezeway of a tick it was just a ticket booth with a breezeway and you know space on each side where I guess you would have the ticket booth or
what not. >> I think you sent that in April. >> Yeah, it was April the 21st was with the was when Mr. Waymer shared that with us, but what we were kind of envisioning before we saw this picture was still that type of building and and it all be connected with the bathrooms as part of that same facility. And then so you so you walk through the breezeway that you know, the ticket booth is obviously right there when you first walk in and then to to probably maintain traffic either on you know, the outside end which I guess would be the north end of these buildings or on the east and west side, you know, the would be access to the bathrooms but it would all be contained under that single roof. >> Yeah, but
that's fine. Yeah, that's that's actually just a an option that I think I've shared before. So. >> Okay. >> Yeah, that's that's really a you know, if that's available to the board then that's fine. Really for me it's just a matter of changing out the layout to roof like that to that. >> And when you when you show us that, if you have the ability to do a you know, outside elevation view from a couple different angles, that'd be helpful cuz I mean, the engineering drawings are a little hard for me to read to be honest with you. So. >> Yeah, I think the basic rendering. >> Yeah. Yep. >> That's kind of a problem. So, I just yeah, I you know, I had that rendering of the breezeway and the ticket booth which you
guys had seen before which has got a breezeway in the center and >> Yep. >> each side has the you know, ticket booth portion and then you would like for that to extend around under the one roof with the bathrooms underneath that. >> Yep. Yep. Yep. Sounds like we're on the same page. >> Yeah, that's that's really not a that's not a big deal. >> Well, Jerry, if you get that, we're going to vote on it and we'll we'll do a special meeting as soon as you can get that so I know we got to get that posted and everything. >> Yeah, let me see what I can do and get that rendering back over there. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> That'll that'll be easy to do. >> Okay. Thanks, sir. >>
Yeah, no problem. >> Well, that answers that. >> I think it will look smoother and cleaner. >> I think so. >> Especially with the fence across and then we end up redoing the siding on the concession stand. >> Yeah. >> Um and that would just look cleaner. >> So, merit pay we're not supposed to announce who got it until June 24th, but we did have three teachers received it for a total of $9,500. So. >> So remind me again you said for positions that are in high demand and then what else? >> Uh growth. So, we actually had two that got high demand and then we got one that got high demand and growth. So, we got one that got 4,500 and the other two 2,500. >> So, okay. That's that's great. Um How do
we how do we try to I guess position more teachers to qualify for that cuz that's one of those things that I'd love for us to pay all of them for growth. >> Right. Right. Well, I'm actually looking at next year. And I've talked to Cross County Arc and I've talked to Des Arc. Des Arc's doing it with their deal. They're doing a merit pay just based on their system. And so basically your evaluation from your principals are part of it. Attendance is a part of it. And then your BAM score, which is what they're getting. And then let's say BAM your supervisor's evaluation and then say if the school was a B, everybody in that school would get money. If school's an A, you get more. And that's not just certified people, that's classified
people. Now, classified's not as much, but you know, when your school's successful, that's everybody in that building. And so that's something I'm planning on working with PPC to present for next year just cuz I want to see how it works. But I think it's good. I think merit pay is good. I mean, I do. I think merit pay is good and >> You know, I think in general you get results where you place the incentives. And I think teachers all want to excel and do well, but giving them an extra incentive to to go that extra mile to do it is a good thing. Um so, yeah, I think that I'm I'm definitely in favor of that. >> And that's all I got from Ms. Johnson. I think her last last day will be Thursday.
>> Like I said, it'll be Thursday. >> But Coach Houston, he can kind of like I said, he's been working hard. He's come in. He's got some schedule stuff. He's got a meeting with a group called All Pro Dad, which I'm excited about. It's kind of It's wanting to get more parents in the building. And if Coach, you want to talk to them about All Pro Dad. >> Yeah, you can go right there. That's fine. >> Yeah. >> Um no, so I'm excited to get started. I've kind of been going since since I got the phone call. Um and it's like it's like Mark said, big incentive person and I think that's big for our students as well. Um I'm starting to look at test scores and Atlas scores and trying to see what we
can do and incentivize there on our end. Um one of the things is I got some really good feedback last year when I took kids to the Hardin basketball game. Um so, I'm going to make that one of our incentive things for our interim score for the first interim test that we take um to take those kids to a basketball game who showed growth or scored three or four. Um I sent out a questionnaire to all the teachers and staff. Try to get to know them a little bit, see what went well, what they think could be improved on, what are some things they'd like to see out of me as a leader. Um those type of things. Um building a leadership team. Um I got their votes on that on who they would like
to be involved in the leadership team. So, I'm going to be meeting with those people in July um to start that incentive stuff and that program and make sure all teachers have a say in it. That was the one of the big things that I brought in in my interview was I think you have to have a lot of teacher involvement to to make a school successful. And you know, just giving them the peace of mind that they have a say in what possibly could go on at the school makes them work that much harder and feel that much more cared about and I think that can can drive some results. So, that's where I'm at there. The All Pro Dad thing I I read into it. I have a meeting tomorrow at 10:00 to
talk with them about that. I've read some good things about that. Just getting more people involved in the community, especially dads, and have them come in for breakfasts and lunches and different things of that nature. In the handbook we now have where we can have lunch with parents and so I'm going to get with Ms. Donna and the leadership team on selecting those days and what days we want to allow parents to come in and have lunch with the students, see what's going on in the school, and those type of things. Um One of the big things that I want to try to do is to have lunch with parents myself. Whether it's five or six parents and just to try to, you know, what they what they're seeing in the community from the outside
looking in. I think that's a big perspective to have and to get on. So, we can, you know, clear things up or make things a brighter picture of what's going on in on our campus. I'm really excited. Like Mr. Reymar said about the ADE conference, I've already kind of booked all my my all my schedule's booked up the 13th through the 16th. I've already planned out my days. I'm kind of mixed in on academic side of things and some things about what we can do at our school to make it better and to hopefully, you know, keep your growing and keep the success going cuz the Forney ISD school district is a success and I want to keep that going. Do you guys have any questions for me? >> I think those are great ideas
and um like like the energy and enthusiasm and I think that's something that will serve us well. So, looking forward to having you there. >> Appreciate it. You know, I like the leadership thing. You know, today Allen's going to make the name. So, [laughter] that's a good idea, Coach Houston. I like that. Um handbook changes, I think most of these are pretty much the same uh that we've had. Um we did also agree to with Miss Johnston, no energy drinks. Uh you'd be amazed at the kids that bring Monsters and Red Bulls for breakfast at high school and lunch. So, >> No, no wouldn't. >> Yeah, so [laughter] I mean it's the used to I think they try to sneak taking it now. It's Monsters and everything else that goes along with that. Uh one
thing, Mr. Snyder, uh change as far as technology and Coach Houston, I know he knows about this as far as the coaching side of it. How we communicate with parents will be through Parent Square. Last year it was Roads. But, I think Parent Square is basically like the Roads. It's just another way that we can I guess it's for safety. >> It gives it gives a lot more options as far as like from the admin side um and then it's a lot more with all of the stuff that we have in the school already. Um without the I think without the extra cost of >> Yeah, it's about a third of the cost. >> And I know Roads was about a third of the cost that we were paying. >> Probably more so than not
with practice and getting in touch with parents that this way if I'm a coach and a teacher, I can get all my class stuff and if we've got practice moved to 5, you know, I can get that to the parents, too. So, it's one place they get everything. Basically, they can just throw out a coach was to provide for his team and parents. Now, you get it all together. So, that'll be a good deal to get in touch with the parents. And I think most of ours stay the same. Our daily work is 40% of the grade. Exams are 60. District will notify the parents each week when their lunch balance is in a negative of $15. I know I know the last 2 years at the end of the school year we've gotten had
to call parents where their balance is 2 or $300. So, if we can stick to that and I can get with Miss Donna and she can notify me each time a parent is in a negative of 15, well, it never builds up to the length that some of them have gotten to. And then at the end there, no energy drinks, clear water bottles at the high school. Uh we did have one student show up today to enroll cuz she's not a basketball coach for the girls and was for basketball. So, you missed her. So, she's supposed to come tomorrow, so we do have one. Hopefully, she stays. Athletic-wise, all teams, cheerleaders, band practicing all summer, weight room. I know some of the teams have been to camps this summer. Cheerleaders had their camp here. So,
basketball and football have been to a team camp this summer. And I think softball's played a couple times. So, kids are up being active. I don't know. Well, we got 2 weeks and then it'll be dead week and then they start all over again. Academic-wise, ELA teachers met on June the 10th and 11th and they'll meet again on July the 21st and 22nd to help plan for next year. And math teachers met July 3rd and 4th to plan for next year. We had a jacktime meeting with me, Miss Norton, and Hight, and Miss Miller to discuss remediation plans to improve our annual scores for next year. Um I know Mark hasn't heard this but you all have before. This past year for Jack Time, which is our remediation period, it was 25 minutes. This year
that's going to 45 to give more time with the kids that need it. Uh so we're going to have an eight-period day next year. We talked about going to seven but we're going to stay at eight but one of those periods will be a remediation period. So hopefully that will help. Now, this past year kids would come to your room. They divided the kids up. They go to your room so we take a little quiz on math or English, whatever we're doing that week. Come back Tuesday, review that, and Wednesday, Thursday, Friday we try to fix what was wrong. Well, that didn't work cuz our test scores were what they were. I mean, we were above the state in eighth grade science and seventh grade math. Everything else was below the state. So we made
a list of every kid and what they scored on every test, level one, two, three, or four. So this year for that remediation period for 45 minutes, for the 45, the level ones and twos are going to be with the core teachers for their remediation. Now last year every kid split up with all staff. So the ones that need their remediation the most are going to be with the core teacher for 45 minutes. So that I think will be tremendous help. Because if I'm not the math teacher and I'm teaching Mr. Mark, he's going to swipe his two square off. Mhm. I'm not going to get it home like if I teach math every day. So hopefully and then what we're going to do is we take our interim in the fall. We're going to
get those scores and then compare them to where we started and then move the kids. If I've got a three that comes to a two, well now you're going over them group. So, hopefully in the end we take one in the winter, then another one at the end of the year, and we can just keep moving those kids with the most help we can give. So, I'm excited about that. I think that will be good. And 45 minutes is to be 25. With your core teachers got to help. So, I hope I hope that's going to be good. Um our students that are enrolled for next year, seventh grade 35, eighth grade is 41. That girl came today was eighth grade girl. Ninth grade is 39 kids, 10th grade 34, 11th grade 28, and our
seniors will be 27. Um so, hopefully uh we can build on those in each grade. Um ATLAS samples, we're going to have that meeting and go over ATLAS. This is Patty Stevens who comes and helps us out a lot. She came and showed me some things that our kids can do during those remediation times that is actually quizzes through ATLAS and things. But, her husband passed away Thursday, I think. Friday. So, I have not talked to her this week. So, I will I'm going to wait on her to call me to plan our next meeting for that. Then our game time, of course, is going to increase. Came up with some incentives for our kids. Um And by how they score interim wise, and then in the winter, and then at the end of the
year next year, each time we take the ATLAS, how they score, we can reward them. One that we planned for this coming fall, um is take them to Berryhill Park in Searcy one school day, provide them a Chick-fil-A lunch, and I think they have at this park pickle ball, basketball goals, and let the kids that they're really good on their Atlas in the data school, we could take you, we'd feed you, we'd play games all day, and get you back before school's out, and then maybe in the winter we've got more kids that want to do better. Cuz a lot of our ones and twos, when I went through the list, you would be shocked at some of the kids that were ones and twos. You would think, "Mhm, you know, I don't know. Are
you really trying while you're in there, or you reading the first three questions? I'll only read that over." grab those sticks. So, hopefully in Cinema we can get the best out of them on each test. And then I looked at some of our kids, and the level one, two, three, and four, where you got to get to a certain percentage to move up to the level two. We had some kids that didn't move within the range, but not enough to get to the next level. So, hopefully, and I made a tracking system now, I got every kid this year through their Atlas, what they made this year on every test. So, when the numerals come out after we do those, I want to plug those in and see if this kid moved up in English,
or down in English, and compare it every time we take it, and then we can attack those kids with remediation. So, hopefully all of that moves forward. Thank you. >> Appreciate you. So, what happens to during remediation for the kids who aren't remedial? What? >> Well, we kind of the way we have it now for each kid, the level ones and twos are quartered into nine teachers that are going to have the level ones and twos. The threes and fours are going to go with the other teachers, and one group's going to be ACT prep. Uh the other ones are going to be in the gym, and the other ones in the library. So, they can get ACT prep, And then we've got a zoom tomorrow with IXL. So hopefully this IXL zoom gives us
another you know, we can put in there with those kids. >> That's a bit of an incentive, too, I would say to have some of those options. So >> So now you said if I'm a three, if I start out as a three or four and I get to go to ACT prep or I go over to the gym during remediation and then we take the interim in the fall and I fall to a two, now I don't get that until after Christmas cuz now I got to go with the ones and twos. So hopefully we like to have all three of them. >> Yeah. Nice. I like it. I guess the last thing we have is it's not a personnel issue, it's just that we need a motion [clears throat] to add the following
or actually just add the stipend addendums to the listed employees as presented Do you want to name Do you want me to name them all off? >> I do have a question. What about golf? >> Um when we hired coach Quarterball, he was golf only. >> He's going to do Okay, got you. >> [snorts] >> I didn't see that on his list of >> Yeah, no. When we initially hired him at that last deal, it was just girls basketball and golf. >> Got you. This is all the extras. >> Anybody else have any questions? Then let's see if I can say that again. If I can get a motion to >> [clears throat] >> add the follow- add the stipend addendums to the employees listed. >> Motion. >> Second. >> Have a motion and a
second. All of those in favor say aye. >> Aye. >> Any opposed? Is there any other business for the board? No. Going once. Going twice. Then we will by unanimous consent at 6:57.
