001so [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] do [Music] do [Music] so [Music] do [Music] so [Music] so [Music] do [Music] so [Music] do [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] so [Music] so [Music] do [Music] do [Music] do [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] no no he's remoting in right now to set it up no chris chris okay we're live we're good okay all right um all right so we'll go ahead and begin our regular board meeting welcome everyone here call the meeting to order before we begin though i'd like to recommend since i am attending remotely we got john hannah there in the room

002with dr white that i think it would be a smoother process if mr board we allowed john to continue leading the meeting so at this point unless there's any objections i want to turn it over to john and let him lead from this point forward thank you jeff thanks john you're welcome uh good evening everyone thank you for attending our meeting january 20th 22 at 6 pm um meeting has been called to order we're going to go to item number two approval of minutes from december 16th and january 4th um we've reviewed any questions from anyone if not i'll need a motion okay we have a motion we need a second okay has been moved and seconded all in favor say aye aye opposed saint like sign approval minutes pass okay dr white item number

003three we have our january spotlight which is one of our favorite things to see yep please take her away let me get to where i can see um we got a miss and these these people were nominated by the teachers and staff we've got miss uh amaya lee briscoe uh pre-k second grade so this girl has the heart the size of texas she watches out for her classmates and always make sure they have something to play with she always helps clean up messes even if she didn't make them she does her best on all her work miss sidney payne third through sixth grade this girl has improved leaps and bash went from hating to read to reading a whole book series her grades have improved overall she's developed a love of learning she's also kind

004helpful and trustworthy raven way seventh through ninth grade raven is so kind and deserving of this award she says hello every time she passed me in the hallway she's always smiling laughing she's super talented and funny too latrell neal 10th through 12th grade very respectful young man sets a high standard for himself and others around him always willing to help his fellow students he gives his teammates and coaches 100 on and off the field also he's an outstanding young man in his community he offers to assist his neighbors with helping maintain their yard whether it's cutting grass or running errands if any student here at mhs deserves this it's the drill so those are our students um congratulations to them and i'll put them in like the little graphic like i've been doing i just

005i did not have time to get that ready today um and then down here we have miss kathy campbell custodian at the elementary school says she works hard every day does her jobs and others she chips in where she can helps out and at the high school we got miss angela dozier it says miss dozier's always so welcoming and kind there's no way you could walk past her without smiling so there you go fantastic what a great group um congratulations to everyone there um it's such a it's so good to see this every month i think it's one of our favorite things so thank you and congratulations to everyone there moving on we have our financial report first up being our board report i hope you all have had a chance to look through it

006did anyone have any questions anything different or to you guys karen dr white no okay next up is our check registry or register sorry a lot of checks not as many as some months though a lot of it is um payroll yes sir very good thank you so that's our check register next up is a legal balance spreadsheet and we're into 22 here yeah so this month um of course we're talking about december and we only got um we got 224 thousand dollars in revenue which and i'll show you all here in a minute on another one um is about roughly half of what we got last year at that time um we're about 279 000 below collection from last year at this time so i think it's not an uncommon problem that's going around

007the state right now with kovid and you know we've gone through the last two years so um of course the state will make up whatever we don't get as far as our collection at the end of the year up to 98 percent but right now we're seeing a declining balance of about 281 thousand dollars um and that's that's just simply because of the lack of revenue the lack of revenue yeah there's a it was over 200 000 difference uh as far as what we got from last year to this last december to this december right in comparison oh yeah so yeah 458 000. now one thing on that i don't know expenditures for the last three months of this year compared to expenditures the last three months last year were they higher oh yes yeah

008and so there's a i know a little trend there is there any particular reason well it's you know you go you go a year without you know holding and not not replacing stuff and doing anything so we've had to replace some things and fix some things and some other stuff um this year that in the past we held off on yeah um and then of course fuel's gone up um stuff stuff in general has gone up and that we had to get oh yeah yeah um that will not cover this year gotcha so what we're planning on doing is of course we've got these esther funds um which they are they're reimbursable funds right but they are federal funds and there are certain guidelines and stuff you have to follow as far as how you

009can spend them right so and then how you get reimbursed um so back in november if you'll remember we did the this year back in november we did the retention incentive for the teachers yes we set it up to where they get a thousand dollars this year they get a thousand dollars next year um we're paying for our teachers who are participating in after school tutoring uh every tuesday and thursday we're using that money to help pay for that that cost there's a couple other different things [Music] last year we were able to use about two hundred thousand dollars to help offset some of our salaries um we're going to start looking back at what we spent so far this year and see if there's anything we missed that we could identify as esther eligible

010um i thought we talked about that today and see what we can maybe move around to help offset this cost of course we may not see it till the end of the year you know um it's reimbursable yeah right understand but that's what we're going to start doing so just so you know it makes sense and then this is the little comparison thing i think it's working so this is the last four years of revenue yes and you can see it you can see a pattern yeah but you can definitely see we got about half of what we got the last two years yes so now we called miss uh i think this uh is the strengthener all right yes this is marlene um at the county and um so you gotta remember from the

011state we get 203 000 on average that's what we're getting this year i think um so we're gonna get maybe a hundred thousand dollars from them isn't that what she said 140 000 in january um so we might have 300 and gotcha 50 000 maybe this next month when you combine it with what we're getting from the state and there's a couple other little funds um but again it's going to be a decline yeah so we just got to be careful how we're spending money and and keep moving forward and try and save where we can to cut where we can without sacrificing the needs of the kids i wonder and through analytics research anything like that when you have four years of researchable plain data that shows [Music] over a year say we have

012this much and it averages out to six hundred thousand dollars i'm just throwing that number out there there's no way to really go in and bank on having a six hundred thousand dollar a month budget though because we don't know what we're going to get right and that is a any school district in in arkansas you know what you're doing right so yeah you get that and there's but um so there's no one who can go in and just anything forecast anything like that no because it's based on what's been turned in what's been paid and there's no consistency anywhere in any county any school district well i mean i'm not that i'm aware of where you were before no so you're guaranteed yeah no so you're guaranteed 98 of that revenue right but the

013state does that at the end of the year but you can't go in there and say all right our last four years have been this guaranteed well no it fluctuates too much right so i mean the expenses i've tried to keep the expenses close to what they were last year yeah oh yeah but there's still more i mean because stuff's more expensive i mean really yeah and then um of course here's your legal balance so as you can see our legal balance fluctuated quite a bit um yeah over the last four years but it got better this last year but we didn't really see an improvement until april until april came that's right so [Music] we'll uh okay we'll keep working and yeah watch what we spend watch what we spend thank you very good

014all right and so that was a comparison any questions guys roadblock that but if not we'll move on to action items um number five consider uh our covet information oh sorry sorry about that yes uh with all that said guys uh need a move to um to approve the financial statements motion okay we have a motion to approve uh need second okay we have a motion this second all in favor say aye aye opposed motion carries all right covet information all right so they updated ach i updated their information today um this is basically since thanksgiving um in our county you can see as of today we're at 245 cases in the county act active cases um i'm ready for that little red trend line to go the other way um so right now we're

015getting getting up into some some good numbers here in the county um so that's that's that this is the current map of arkansas every school district in the state has 50 or more cases per 10 000 over a 14 day rolling average okay again according to the department of health the best defense we have is number one everybody go out get their vaccines in their booster number two wear your mask number three social distance as much as possible hand washing cleaning that kind of thing [Music] i've been asked why school still open while we're using more in my days while we're not going virtual we don't really have the flexibility to say we're going to go virtual yet [Music] we had it last year and it's it's no longer an option this year um what

016we do have are ami days and those are days where teachers supply work whether it's in the form of a packet or in the form of electronic work and students have to do the work in order to be counted here for that day when kids don't do the work they are considered absent for the day um and right now we shut down last week on thursday and friday we thought it was a smart move because we had the three day weekend coming up that gave us five days so the people that we sent home last week we'd have five days for them to get through it come back on tuesday so here we are on thursday and we've got just as the same amount of numbers just about um but we don't have a three-day

017weekend coming up okay um so we took the two am i days last week we have eight left for the year um now they're supposed to be used for weather they're supposed to be used for if heaven forbid there's a pipe that busts and we can't have school i mean they're all we have right now um and we are able to staff our building we're still cleaning it we've got the mask mandate in place [Music] there are very few very few like a handful of transmissions in school right now that we we think it happened at school but we don't know um we don't know where the kids are going after school or on the weekend um we do know that like the majority of these cases are coming from outside of school okay whether

018they're positive or quarantined now provided everybody's wearing their mask properly at the same you know at the right time we don't have to quarantine anybody from something that happens at school all the quarantining's happening from exposure outside of school now we'll say we did send home the pre-k [Music] but they are under the age where they can get the vaccine and the state guidance is they get sent home so we didn't have any choice in that okay um but they're going to come back on monday okay um so yeah it's still serious um like i said health department's recommendations are get the vaccine wear mass social distance clean wash your hands social distance right now we continue with the mass mandate we're continuing to look at the numbers and watch the numbers of the school

019we're working with the state department i talked to them twice today talking about the numbers where we're at um we're trying to work with our teachers give them some assistance dealing with the kids that are out and different things um it's just it's it's it's hard right now i encourage everyone um be patient with us um be patient with your teachers we're gonna provide students with with some grace and some teachers and stuff with some grace i mean um this is hard on everybody and we're not gonna um we're not gonna make it more difficult by by coming down on somebody for something that we don't have to um we're going to we're going to help folks and lift them up i'm not trying to tear them down it's been tough thanks to everybody for

020your efforts it's um it's hard out there and everybody's working hard pitching in good job to everyone thank you so much dr white on ami days those are set we applied for those and got 10 is that correct correct is that the max that's the max right now that's all anyone can get and yeah are there any kind of plans if it gets rough out there too that will the state department or whoever issues those can update or there has not been anything said officially or unofficially okay um now there have been some rumors that something might happen but i mean they're just rumors i don't have anything nothing okay that's what we have to work with now we'll worry about later if they run out well right now if they we use up all

021our days we tack them on in the year gotcha yeah so okay thank you very much is that all we got on covid all right next item b uh consider deleting items from inventory um can you man tell me with this one um we've got this kyle sierra copier it was an old one uh they got it do what it just died yeah it just did i mean it just went put so um we just need to take them out take it out of the inventory right what do we do with these when we take them out of inventory these things there's not a lot you can do with them and you can part them out um and there's there's nothing there's no monetary value left in these then well no i mean like i

022said we're gonna if we need a part off but we're still apart gotcha okay and we have this copier um what else yeah oh sorry my bad and it's broken i said saw on all these same for this one sharp copier it's from 05. 16 years old 17 years old it's a printer six years old that was my checkpoint okay this is the surveillance system from uh bus camera system four i think of this gotcha which we're going to try and replace that this next month um we're looking at vendors right now okay that's it anybody have any questions these aren't these aren't items that have just broke recently some of these we've been carrying forward correct we're just trying to clean up the books correct correct okay any any other questions guys okay if

023not we'll need a motion to delete these um items from our inventory motion second all right we have a motion and a second all in favor say aye opposed like son ocean passes okay our next discussion is concerning the purchase of liability insurance and outside of arkansas liability insurance all right so this is a uh what we had before correct correct this is good for this next year goes into effect from february 1st to february 1st um and it's it's liability coverage for the district and and the board members nothing's changed has it no i tried to find it from last year now the only thing that that i mean there's no shared limits it doesn't cover terrorism okay but the legal liability for employment practices is 8000 336 and then outside of arkansas now

024this would cover um kids going on trips board members going on trip i mean anybody going anywhere outside of arkansas um 541 dollars um so again doesn't cover terrorism heaven forbid something like that would happen yeah but i mean it just doesn't cover that one like i said that one's 541 then they gave us they're they're giving us some more assistance as far as human resources and different things um through asba this year and then and towards the end of last year so but that's that that's it i guess that's pretty much standard and close to what other oh yeah districts our sides get right there's not a whole lot of wiggle room on any of these is there not really okay they're pretty they're pretty boilerplate standard i mean makes sense does anybody have

025any questions concerns if not we'll need a motion to consider the purchase of liability insurance and outside outside of arkansas liability insurance covers from february to february we have a motion do we have a second sec motion is second all in favor say aye aye aye opposed like side please motion passes okay next is consider the purchase of adminim slash study island yeah actually i think it's like more exact path study island and it provides a core library program license this is elementary for 100 kids study island nwa integrated solutions study island core library of the 250 students and then the nwa map exact path core library this is a project we've had for a couple years we did we did talk to them we got them to decrease the cost okay [Music] overall and

026we added professional development opportunities for this product um so actually it's 300 less than it was uh hopefully we'll get more but we're getting more got it okay is that because they're just nice folks and wanted to help us out or they are good i think part of it's also because i asked for a six-month contract because i don't like doing stuff in january like this yes i'd rather do in july july yeah they don't do six-month contracts and i think this is they're kind of like yeah we'll give you some uh pd and yeah we'll cut it by a couple hundred dollars and so so 300 bucks less same pretty much the same thing it is the same thing we have developed for personal development but we've got custom counseling services from um for

02712 months during school hours during um their office hours we just call them up either one of their offices on the west coast and east coast and say hey i'm having this issue what do you suggest you know that kind of thing yeah um do some coaching things like that gotcha you use the product better you know good good so but we do use federal funds to pay for this and that's part of our federal thing we we we've done um the budget stuff um and so it's twenty thousand six hundred and twenty dollars and ten cents nice okay does anybody have any questions on ed minimum study island purchase if not i will entertain a motion to consider the purchase i'm going to show you all right we have a motion need a second

028who do you get for emotional okay bob motion uh we need a second brian second okay so we have a we have a motion and a second all in favor of consider the purchase of edmonton study island say aye aye all opposed like sign motion passes next up consider uh the administration audit report for the child nutrition program so we did got administratively audited at our child nutrition um they did have four findings um they were minor uh with such things as we served a corn dog that had too much um didn't have enough wheat in it or you know along those lines um so we we talked to aramark um we worked on our menus we've already responded to them because we had to respond to them by tomorrow we've already taken the corrective

029action that they've suggested so we just didn't we wanted y'all to know that yeah they did have some findings they were minor we've already corrected them and and we're moving on okay so with that said do we need to take any emotion no i just wanted to share that with you all right so it has been noted that uh due to the audit report for children nutrition program we have addressed it and we should be good yeah okay very good thank you dr white the next up we have uh consider the board member training hours information report out of meth all right so every year we have to to talk about the the training hours at the board of gotten during that year in january it's a law so i just want to say overall

030mr alan ball has 30.5 hours total and he's got for this year um what's he got this year it's down at the bottom looks like he's got three hours this year no they don't have the asba hours on there yet um but they're adding those and then mr briley he's got 66.5 hours he had training in december here's a virtual conference uh beardsley security um so he's gotta tell right now seven mr hannah he's got training from december in july he's got seven mr holmes he's got training from march in february of last year man he's got a lot of stuff that's not on here um so he should be we'll have to double check on his as far as what's not on there somehow asba stuff is not on there yeah um and then

031mr reeves has got the hours and the classes are there but the hours aren't updated right right right um got the classes in november back in july um so he's got six right now so those are the hours that the board has according to sba so if y'all got any certificates or anything document training that's not on here um shoot it to us and we'll we'll get that corrected okay guys y'all hear that have anything send it to us so we can get that updated cool any questions i guess we just need to know that we have those hours and yes we have discussed correct all right very good any question guys okay thank you um let's move on item number six we have our information items and reports first one up is high school

032principal report yep mr wiggins is at the game tonight um we do have a game tomorrow on the calendar it says hello west helena for some reason but i'm pretty sure it's a mariana um where lee county is that right maryam yeah i didn't think i was crazy um so the report from mr wiggins we added another people so we're at 263 kids at the high school we have five virtual um basketball basketball more basketball parent-teacher conferences are february 14th and 15th now i'm just saying as omicron continues we may be changing up how we're doing parent teacher conferences or even those dates don't know yet we'll let everybody know as soon as we know act and workkeys exams are the 1st of march the theater square production of the history show is friday march

0334th and then prom is saturday march 12th i still can't get over how early prom is is here [Music] congratulations to the eighth grade for winning the nwa growth competition we had as a class to 8th grade group over 560 points in english reading math and science the seventh grade came in second with almost 550 points of growth 45 percent of the students who took both assessments made a double-digit gain on a combination of all the tests uh the seventh grade led this category was sixty-one percent followed by eighth grade at fifty-one percent ninth grade with thirty-seven percent and tenth grade with twenty-four percent guys we got some education going on um that shows it right there because these tests from this beginning of the school year till right there before we left in december

034that's what we're gauging growth from that point to that point first of september to the end of december middle of december um we've we've we've seen some massive gains in these students so there were a couple of highlight kids that really shone um and i think that mr wiggins is working on getting them a little kind of a reward for their efforts individually as well as to the class that's great that's great to hear great to hear good job and thank you principal wiggins and dr white next up elementary school principal report oh no do you have my drug copy here we go i think she might hang out with her you got a copy of that deal okay you're all right we have around 305 students our numbers are going um we're losing some

035students and then we're getting some students so it's it's it's iffy you know um the following classes have the best attendance for the first semester that was mrs strasner second grade and mrs creasy fourth grade so they are going to be getting something special um probably snack day bro tech books were given for december and january i will be posting the pictures i haven't posted pictures yet we have to take one picture over so that's the reason january 24th through the 28th we will be celebrating the great kindness week monday be kind to someone where someone near wear crazy socks or shoes tuesday crazy hair day bring dog food for the animal shelter wednesday be sporty by helping others and you can wear your sports attire thursday dream of being kind where pajamas bring non-perishable

036food items for the backpack program friday jaguars be kind show your jaguar spirit students usually really get involved and they do they bring a lot of canned goods and things for the backpack program so we're really proud of them and they do bring a lot of dog items you know food treats whatever so we really appreciate all their help and i think they really really want to support everybody in this in this endeavor we did take the nwa um our teachers are planning on preparing lessons for the black history month which is going to be celebrated in february they'll be doing different activities talking about important people what they've done for them for america things like that and then snack dad will be february 11th and also we are looking at our test scores and

037we will be doing something special for the students or the grade level classes that have really improved and also we are going to be doing something for the students individually that have improved for each grade level too that made more progress so that's what we have in the future great good deal thank you principal hernandez next up transportation all right so this is from december okay he spent three thousand five hundred and eight point six six two and he's under budget two thousand nine hundred ninety one dollars and thirty eight cents okay we didn't have to buy as much let me try that again is that better okay so this is from uh mr conway in the transportation department as you can see he spent a total of three thousand five hundred eight point six

038two dollars last month so he's under his monthly budget by about 2991.38 so uh didn't have to buy as much fuel so there we go doing a good job though dennis is doing a good job and i just want to take a second while i'm here on transportation i want to thank um mr wiggins coach massinelli um mr brown miss doris uh coach quarterbaum um coach kennan um i don't forget anybody um mr herford yes ms doris miss doris uh clark um i don't think i think i hit everybody um max max long um this last week we've had some mr coach campbell uh we've had um some people out due to being sick some are bus drivers um kurt ziegenhorn has stepped up and helped all these guys have helped out somewhere as far

039as transportation as far as our buses um they've done an absolutely stupendous job for us um haven't complained willing to step up and do what they need to do so i just want to make sure that recognize them and tell them thank you um because we got to get kids here and we got to get kids home um so their help was very much appreciated and mr conway has done an excellent job organizing all that yes great job everyone thank you so much for your extra work and dedication great team good leadership our next one up is superintendent report okay so since our last meeting in january the omicron variant course has surged um we're doing what the best we can our biggest issue will be and has been staffing we might see future ami

040days uh we might see bus routes change or suspended we might see multiple classes working together we don't know what this is going to look like okay we don't know what steps we're going to have to take um so we're going to take it day by day and we're going to help our kids help our teachers and just do the best we can [Music] it's going to be chaotic at times there's going to be last-minute changes it's going to happen [Music] just you know ask the community again remain patient with us and we'll we'll do the best we can for our kids and our teachers in our community [Music] i wanted to share this graph with y'all um this is a graph of what somebody goes through after a disaster okay pandemic i got this

041from uh cj huff who's the uh the leader ceo of uh bright futures um he developed this with his team after the joplin tornado he was the superintendent up there uh when the tanto hit joplin as you can see you know you've got pre-disaster impact and that cracks up oh heroic we've got that the honeymoon period of community um you know cohesion this starts dropping you get down to disillusionment and you have little trigger events then you get like the one year that dotted line there is like the one year anniversary okay and then you know you're working through basically grief there's going to be some setbacks reconstruction new beginning you're getting ready for you know life part of our struggle we're having right now that's a normal something happens that's a normal response [Music]

042we're not to that point yet where we're done and we can start recovering okay we can't say oh it's been a year since coco um we're still dealing with it so we've hit our honeymoon phase you know we're we're struggling community members are struggling um one of the things we're working on is um trying to find resources that can help people in our community through the school and as we get that that developed with the state and with our partnerships with the co-ops and different things we're going to push some more stuff out to our community [Music] but again um health department says the best thing we can do vaccinate mass social distance hand wash things like that but i thought that was a very interesting graph um i want to share with you all

043we need substitute bus drivers okay um if anybody's interested please come by [Music] we'd like to talk to you we may have a route for you at some point the drivers we got eventually some of them are going to retire um so if you're interested come on uh the speaker project athletic field we're looking at the end of february that's when it's kind of scheduled hopefully it'll still work out that way so then we're definitely going to have it by may graduation and everything else the pots lines you know we approved that in december and that's the the seven lines we have that that run like some alarms and different things um and we're gonna save money by moving over to granite from centurylink um the attorney looked at the contract because that's what we

044wanted to do made a couple of changes to it i submitted those changes to granted they came right back with the changes said yeah we're great with that so excited to move forward [Music] the alarms for the freezers we've got them we're just waiting everyone to get healthy and back to school so that we can install them um we're still working on next year's calendar the surge in covid one week i had half these people out the next week we've had half these people out so i had not got everybody together um it's kind of hard to have a meeting and look at options so we're gonna try and have one monday um so depending on which way we go if there's there's there's some with the some of these new options we'll have to

045have a community meeting of some kind um now if the traditional calendar is what people want then there's no need to have all these different meetings and stuff we'll just have a traditional calendar um we want to do something different though we're going to have to seek out input from our community um maybe a survey we like said we're going to have a meeting lots of different different ways we can get that input um january school board appreciation month um i know all the hard work that goes into being a board member um it is not an easy job uh and it is a job at times um there is no pay uh there is no insurance okay um there's no benefits to it except the intrinsic you know benefit of feeling like you've done

046a good job or you've helped your community or helped students and that kind of thing and board members serve for lots of different reasons but overall they serve because they want students to have the best that they can okay so they want their teachers and staff to have the best opportunities and and resources they can be effective mostly though it's about the kids so on behalf of the mccrory school district and and people here i just want to tell the board members thank you for what you do thank you for the time you put in it is appreciated and then we sent out this board survey back in december through january just want to share with you we had 47 responses okay um let me pull that up so 38.3 of the responders said that

047they believe that the board puts needs of students above all else uh 40.4 said occasionally um 19.1 said rarely and then you had a two percent that said never um so the majority of people 70 eight percent um believe that the you put the needs of students above all else um the board takes time to learn about important issues facing schools through actions such as seeking input from community teachers students and administrators 31.9 said frequently 19.1 percent said occasionally [Music] 36.2 said rarely in 12.8 said never the board discusses and researches events and trends in the larger community that may affect schools and students again it's 36.2 percent uh frequently that's 36.2 percent occasionally 25.5 percent rarely and then you have the one percent that says never the board communicates its decisions to all affected

048by them 34 frequently 25.5 percent rarely um or occasionally sorry 36.2 percent rarely and then 4.3 percent is never the board keeps informed about what children are learning through reports on scholastic achievement vocational programs impact extracurricular activities 80.9 said yes 19.1 said no i believe the board participates professional development opportunities available at regional state and national levels forty point four percent said frequently forty two point six percent said occasionally uh fourteen point nine percent said rarely and one two point one percent said never board members are able to hold confidential items in confidence um forty two point six percent said yes you've got 4.3 that said no and then i don't know was 53.2 the board explicitly examines the downside or possible pitfalls of any important decision is about to make frequently as 31.9 percent

04942.6 is occasionally 21.3 is rarely and then 4.3 is never before reaching a decision on important issues the board requests input from students staffers community likely to be affected by the decision [Music] pretty evenly spent here is 23.4 percent frequently uh 25.5 occasionally 25.5 rarely and 25.5 percent is never the board shows an awareness of the impact of its decisions will have on the community 27.7 say frequently 40.4 say occasionally 23.4 say rarely 8.5 say never the board encourages the public to attend board meetings uh 31.9 frequently uh 31.9 percent occasionally 12.8 percent rarely 23.4 is never the board has formed committees that include staff and community representatives and allows them to report their findings and board meetings uh 25.5 is yes 29.8 is no and then i do not know is the 44.7 if

050the board thinks a group of constituents is likely disagree with an action it's considering it make sure to learn how the public feels before rendering the decision uh 21.3 frequently 25.5 occasionally uh 36.2 rarely and then 17 never the board withstands the pressures of special interest groups uh frequently is 23.4 occasionally it's 42.6 rarely is 27.7 and then never 6.4 the board devotes time to putting out fire the board devotes more time to putting out fires than it does to preparing for the future 25.5 say frequently 25.5 say occasionally 36.2 say rarely in 12.8 say never the board discusses where the school district will be in five years from now twenty three point five four percent say frequently forty eight point nine percent say occasionally twenty three point four percent rarely and four point three

051percent never uh the board makes explicit use of long-term priorities of the school district in dealing with current issues 27.7 say frequently 51.1 say occasionally and then 21.3 say rarely the board conducts an annual superintendent evaluation 38.3 say yes 2.1 say no and then 59.6 percent i don't know i can answer that they do every year i believe the board is leading our district in the correct direction 59.6 percent say yes 40.4 say no i believe individual board members issue instructions to the superintendent or school staff 34 said frequently 31.9 said occasionally 19.9 said rarely 14.9 said never i'm comfortable voicing my concerns either to an individual board member with a board as a whole 59.6 yes 40.4 percent no and then um please use any suggestions that you have for the board to keep

052you more informed of what is happening in our district nothing match should not be required i think the board needs to be in consideration what the faculty teachers have to say about the subjects i also think it should be up to parents where the child has to wear a mask or not regardless of vaccinated status [Music] i feel that teachers have been discouraged to voice their opinions ideas and solutions to problem situations to board members and that being said an open line of communication would be beneficial also feel that the board members don't care as much as they once did the board meeting should always be streamed even if there's a basketball game being played the game should could be streamed during executive session um facebook could have been only to communicate to the public

053more communication outlets need to be used to inform the public or decisions made by the board i'm an employee and i often am not informed about things that directly affect me or my students because decisions are not consistently communicated it's not just from the school board but for administration as well i feel the board only hears what the administration is telling them which is often misleading or flat-out wrong so the board needs to reach out to the staff more to hear their concerns or side of the story and not just take the word of administration i also feel that i don't know should have been an option on more of the questions i selected rarely for several questions because i don't know wasn't a choice seek more teacher input look at facilities i feel like

054teachers are afraid to go to the board meeting board members for anything board members do not come to teach or staff and ask opinions they just take the word superintendent he gives information opinions that didn't come from us i'm not sure why this survey is being conducted it's just another way to make the public think their input is being considered when in fact the board will do whatever they want regardless of input ballistic community staff would not currently have the principles that we have in the district i think the elementary principal needs a better understanding for staff and to be more involved with the children should know what's going on and be able to explain it to the board correctly staff and parents concerns are rarely ever met with understanding or problem-solving attitudes traditional culture

055is rigorously upheld regardless whether it works or not continued issues with the administration are never addressed issues brought to the border kept confidential causes backlash from the faculty administration involved students staff and parents overwhelmed and bullied all stakeholders disgusted with the climate and culture of the school but nothing's being done to focus on the budget which needs help but it's not on many of the bigger issues facing our community the board needs to be more open than listening to all stakeholders not just select a group need to do more about meeting with teachers and staff to get input on decisions being made they put more duties on the teachers staff don't always just take suggestions for administration [Music] one i applaud the board of opening themselves up this type of ridicule this type of valuation

056can give feedback is the best way to grow and become a better leader i'd like to see this type of thing being sent out yearly on the effectiveness of the superintendent principles curriculum coordinator special ed coordinator any other person that is part of the administration team for the district these people should be evaluated individually many people they cannot voice their concerns due to kickback their opinion never being heard or nothing never changing when a complaint is made true leader welcomes criticism learns from it only complaint that i really have about the board is to come to the mass mandate not should or shouldn't i don't care about that i see both sides to mass and unmasked my complaint is the fact that the board did not really ever knowledge a survey the sent out to

057parents opinions if you ask for an opinion then please and acknowledge that you see the majority of parents want this but the current policy states this so we must follow it acknowledgement goes further than most realized but i also know we will not agree every time it's my belief that someone understands the why the rules become a major process more individuals will fall in support if it requires more work or is a pain i understand there are laws abortions follow as well but if i have an issue with something i come to you don't agree and then never say anything during the board meetings to handle it just tell me flat out i agree as a parent whoever is a board member i cannot bring it up until it's on the agenda you need to

058follow a b and c if a doesn't allow it then do d a made up example a group of us have an issue with something administration has pushed down we have followed the chain of command and believe that it is something that the board needs to address so i confront the superintendent by getting on the agenda he says no then when i confront you about it i tell you all the steps you don't just say i understand explain how i can get on the agenda without superintendent approval you're telling me you understand implies you will address it then when something's never said in the open board meeting nothing changes i assume you did nothing but tell me what i wanted to hear at that moment sometimes we do complain the board needs to back the

059administrator or the district but people need to understand the why you haven't done anything rather than just flat out this isn't something that we are worried about or i can't bring it up legally please follow these steps so we can address it communication is key to everything in the y goes a long way good communication starts at the top for to work effectively the board does a great job of keeping us informed i felt the board needs to be better informed on issues such as critical race theory standardized testing procedures 504 and iep implementation employee job performance teacher morale administrator decisions and faculty support um sometime a teacher visits to our school would be welcome i have no proof but strong feel the executive session is abused at board meetings i'd love for the board

060to be more transparent but more insistence of talking to teachers about their needs and needs of the students in less time on what the building admins and coordinators are saying that don't communicate effectively with teachers or students maybe show up at an in-service introduce yourselves and visit with teachers speak with our school districts board members find out what's going on their districts it seems that there is a lot of time put in the bank role and not teaching student role schools are here to educate children not to make money the assets of the school the teachers and students not the bank account value a board member truly cares they will contact teacher staff about the operation of the school this should not just be the superintendent keeping the members informed too many decisions are made

061without the input of the ones in the trenches not applicable please listen to your teachers more than listen seek out your teachers needs and thoughts we are in the trenches and feel as if we are dying seems as if at all about money saving and testing and looking at data you have real people to take care of you have students and teachers who need support lots of support teachers need to teach and students need to learn there's a huge gap between us we need to bridge the gap with conversation interaction between teachers and board members our schools suffering greatly from the stress being put on us it isn't necessary we need to do away with it we need to teach the kids the basics but with all the testing we have to do in social

062emotional wellness everything else we expect to incorporate we are suffocating under all the stress we need support difficult to hear on youtube due to being muffled start putting school board minutes in the paper again those are the the comments okay and you all have access to this thank you dr wyatt okay so let me let me interject a few things the first thing is this is the perception as well so we all sit there and realize there's some of these things that we do but we've got to get better at communicating and that's the one thing that i took away from this is communication and that's something that we can work to address immediately so i don't want the board members to get discouraged um i really thought it may have been worse because typically

063if somebody's happy with something they may not even fill out the survey if people are disgruntled or have issues they will be quick to fill out the survey so don't get discouraged by what we what we had before and start that process so i just want to make sure everybody was aware of those points that's right let's own it and get better that's right um thank you doctor why do i appreciate it everybody any questions or anything on the any of dr white's uh report if not we have our next step is executive session and uh oh that's right so dr white is going to just fill us in on that about that um we do have our financial audit going on right now um and one of the things that we are going to

064have a finding on it um it goes back to the end of july of whenever the bank account was closed um at first first financial and um like the day after everyone closed out the account we had another deposit go in there so the account actually was never closed out apparently um and we would we'd go and we'd take the money out and say close the account and something else would pop in there um we think we found out what vendor or whatever you know we think we've taken care of that to figure out who's been sending money to that account and not the new one um but we're going to go up there tomorrow and make sure everything's closed out move that money into our whatever's in there into our new account [Music] and

065then we should be good moving forward but it is going to be an audit finding because that money was not in our active balance sheet there you go so but we know what to do correct it we've talked to the auditor he's good with those steps and we'll we'll fix it we close the over for several account in case something floated in because there's so much going on but the day that we said we want to close it don't accept anything we closed it out but they did not they didn't close it out so there's money in there and we've got to go get it so but we're going to get a finding for it because not our balance sheet but we've taken the right steps to correct it we're working with the author so

066you [Music] know all right in our we have two cds that nobody in 20 years i guess has known what to do with them there are 200 and something dollars in each of them i've called the bank they can't tell me anything about it so the auditor sees them and he takes them to the bank they tell him the same thing they tell me apparently they were originated many many years ago it's in our name they're not we don't have any they're not on our balance sheet either because we didn't know what it was um nobody's ever put it on our balance sheet there's no name on the cd as to who originated it other than it's a calculus 1 and a calculus 2 award he's putting them on our balance sheet and we're going

067to cash those out if y'all agree to do this cash those two out because they were like a scholarship award and we're going to put that into our scholarship account um i can get you those amounts i just don't have them they the auditor has the little certificate is this something we can add to our agenda next month or do we need to act on it now we can do it next month because it's just sitting there it's the interest that it draws which is very very little is just put back into the cd so nobody's ever really known what to do with it i mean it's been here for a long time had that on their doctor they're a few bookkeepers so is that cool or do we need to address it now no

068you can address it later on that's something just make sure we have all the details yeah we're going to move it to and everything like that before we move forward because we have that the activity account that we do then mccory school scholarship that's where we were going to move it because we need money in there anyway good it might be a good finance case that show people what interest is on 200 over 60 years so very good thank you karen appreciate it and that's something that we certainly can take care of um thank you to everyone we have number seven is our executive session something a little different tonight and jeff keep me on track here if i get off but since we have do not have a quorum here anything discussed in the

069executive session cannot be voted on by a member member or members that are remote and so unless we really have any discussion anybody has any discussion about the three folks on our personnel sheet we uh probably need to take no action on this tonight jeff does that sound good okay okay so this address the three on the personnel sheet and take action on that sound good okay so first off we've got miss kalina smith who um has turned in her two weeks notice she is a computer lab pair pro for us currently um she's accepted a job as a english teacher um i have another district and um so saying that she is a classified employee she's moving to another position that would be a certified position in the district i'm assuming they're doing an

070alternate pathway to get her license um there's no we can't hold her to the job here um we will wish wish her well she's been a great help um wonderful wonderful lady so that's our
