001[Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] for students and then the 15th is the end of the first quarter starting second quarter on the 18th of course you're going through november you get thanksgiving and then you have christmas starting on the 21st of december and then the 20th would be the the end of the month or the end of the semester you come over here to january we'll start on the 6th and then um go to the 17th which is martin luther king day and then you have the 14th and 15th which are apparent teacher conferences right there let me go look yeah yeah the 21st is i'm trying to remember president is that um president's day to be the 21st of february then you go on 18th here in march would be the last
002day of the third quarter we'd have spring break come back the 15th would be good friday come back we go into the 27th now the 27th will be the last day of the school year now we don't have all the waivers and everything else for this next year we have to put in at least um 10 snow days 5 ami days they're called they're going back to the ami language okay i don't know if it's the ami plan that we have my plan i'm hoping to submit would be one where ami is virtual we just have a virtual day right so if we say hey we can't come to school today we're gonna have an ami day it's virtual so we don't have to make it up we've already taken care of it um but
003i don't know so i'm gonna ask i'm gonna ask for as many of my days as i can get i plan for five i'm hoping i can ask for ten just to cover everything i just don't know um so our snow days in order would be may 31st then june 1st june 2nd june 3rd pop up the president's day good friday june 6th 7th 8th and 9th those would be our our snow days okay all right that's the count so are there any questions concerning the calendar all right if there's no questions concerning the calendar i need a motion to approve calendar d as our school calendar for the 20 21 22 school year so moved all right we have a motion second all right thank you um all in favor say aye any opposed
004like sign motion carries uh the next items consider approval to sell softball jerseys these are the old jerseys that we're no longer using so they'll end up in the trash they're good jerseys um and we don't want to just get rid of them coach massinelli is really wants to give the prior players graduating them a chance to buy their jersey um so we thought hey be a great fundraiser for his softball team yeah we're not getting an opportunity to do a whole lot of stuff like that so we want y'all's permission for him to reach out to some of those previous players and say hey would you like to purchase your jersey um no i don't know how he's i don't know how many people have worn the jersey i don't know who gets first
005dibs whether it's first come first serve i don't know yeah that's we just need our approval to sell them yeah we just talked about it today that's that's that's awesome we'll let that handle it handling but um try and sell them and if they don't want them to maybe offer them to the public um we talked about like 30 a piece like i said all the proceeds would go into the softball account sounds like a good idea yeah i agree if that doesn't work can we get donors to maybe contribute money to help maybe give them to former players or something like that sure look at that option yeah for my and for all intents and purposes i mean they're still purchasing the the jersey in my opinion and then if they wanted to go
006to an individual that's their business i mean you know all right so i need a motion excuse me to uh thank you bob to approve selling softball jerseys second second all right got a limited crowd in here tonight so all right we have a motion and a second all in favor say aye aye any opposed like sign motion carries a great idea all right the next uh we have item six information items and reports the first one is the sipa information yeah and i'm going to apologize right now because really the only way to cover this is to just read this document that's fine so follow along and the bouncing ball come out of the car all right so this is the children's internet protection act known as sipa and the children's internet protection act
007was enacted by congress 2000 to address concerns about children's access to obscene or harmful content over the internet simpa imposes certain requirements on schools or libraries that receive discounts for internet access or internet connections through the e-ray program what sipa requires schools libraries or subject to sepa may not receive the discounts offered by the e-rate program unless they certify that they have an internet safety policy that includes technology protection measures the protection measures must block or filter in an access to pictures that are a obscene beach openography or c harmful to minors for computers that are accessed by minors schools subject to sipa have two additional certification requirements one there safety policies must include monitoring the online activities of minors and two as required by the protecting children's 21st century act they must provide for
008educating minors about appropriate online behavior including interacting with other individuals on social networking websites and chat rooms and cyber bullying awareness and response schools and libraries subject to sip are required to adopt and implement internet safety policy addressing one accessing access by minors to appropriate inappropriate matter on the internet the safety and security of minors when using electronic mail chat rooms and other forms of direct electronic communications and authorized access including so-called hacking and other unlawful activities by minors online an authorized disclosure used in dissemination of personal information regarding minors and measures restricting minors access to materials harmful to them the macro school district achieves these requirements by two methods number one we have the imperial monitoring software and number two we have open dns which is actually supplied by the state we use this
009as a backup both of those are filtering software correct yeah um the apparel software only blocks harmful websites such as pornography hacking websites etc it also monitors email flags for inappropriate word searches or uses and sends email notifications when including pictures of these activities the software also looks for key phrases such as suicide or other questionable searches that can then be sent to the counselors for further investigation the software also allows teachers to monitor and even take control of computers necessary in the computer lab virtual architecture and classrooms opendns is used as a backup and is supplied by the state that blocks harmful websites but does not monitor emails etc so we got it covered we do with this two systems that we're using great and a funny example we had a student today that
010uh i was talking to mr lowry she's in typing class she types in typing class of course they make mistakes and this system is so sensitive even as you if you start to spell a word that could be a curse word or something um it'll flag it oh wow and so in her typing learning to type one of her words she had started to spell was necessarily not a good one at least because of her mistakes um not intentional at all right but it's like but it flagged it so so i went up to her and i was like so i hear that you're typing uh bad words yeah and i mean just she was just like you know i'm glad it's not on my computer at the house [Laughter] some may be intentional but
011oh goodness that's good um so we're good on that then we don't have to take an action no you're just making us aware of it making you aware of it um next we've got the high school principles report um total enrollment right now is 266 we have 20 kids in virtual um and at 266 includes the 20 yes kids yes total 266 is total at the high school um we've got kids that have been helping us prep breakfast and lunches on the weekend this week it was our east class volunteered last who was it last week yeah i think it was fccla this week was east next week it's going to be the boys athletics she's gonna be helping um we've got staff i know miss uh jamie slocum she's been really staying and helping
012after school and doing different things um of course miss hyde um ms um you know the coaches are making sure that the kids that are athletics after school are stopping and coming and getting stuff um you know it's really it's been excellent for our kids um with this virtual school one of the things that they real reversal the virtual day one of the things they really talk about in arkansas is food security and how many of the students in arkansas are lacking that and i want everybody to know that um these pizzas and corn dogs and juices and milks and whatever we're sending out every kid gets that opportunity they're not taking something away from another kid i think a lot of them are like well i don't necessarily need that somebody else can use
013that well that somebody else is getting the same thing they don't have to worry about they're taking advantage or taking something from somebody so there's that i just wanted to say that and then elementary school principal report we got 308 kids at the elementary school we got 11 virtual students they said they're doing the nwa test the faculty students down at elementary the faculty down there and the kids down there the older kids especially have really stepped up too and helped us out and really we're counting that mr e-school we can also count that towards community service hours for our students which will benefit them later on as they go into uh college scholarships right and different things it also helps our school score awesome um we just gotta make sure we're closing the code
014in that right and he's cool you gotta figure out we gotta track that um we've got an interesting activity going on the elementary school uh coach taylor and miss hunter have been doing olympic activities with our students if you go down the elementary they've got posters on the wall of the teachers that i believe miss taylor or coach taylor have drawn um and it's them participating in olympic activities it's kind of funny um very very cool kids are eating it up um still getting the birthday books home um first financial banking mccrory donating those send those home with the kids um we did have some stuff for martin luther king day elementary recognized mr whitney and mr long as thankful for them for their their maintenance efforts uh of course snack day is coming up
015on january 28th very important day at the elementary school um repeat that again january 28th snack today uh i'll be celebrating it as well yes somewhere else that's right um we do have parent-teacher conferences on february 8th um we're going to start having the cap and gown pictures for pre-k and 6th grade later on in february of course we're doing virtual fridays we do have some students still attending school on fridays which is fine um it's not a problem we have them in a location and we may split them up take them to recess watch movie we look over uh their work they might have missed for the week and we have activities stuff for them to do but overall she says she want to thank everybody in the community teachers business and churches for
016their support of our students during thanksgiving christmas and all these special school activities it's been a tough year um the community that bands together you know they stay strong and as somebody who's moved into this community this is a nice community i've really enjoyed it myself so it's been refreshing we're glad to hear you say that transportation i like this i like the bottom of it too where he says where he's under budget i like that so i met with him at the end of the year and uh we went over what his monthly budget was and um he tracks it i mean he loves it he's on it um dennis done a good job for us it was a good move um we got coach taylor who's studying for her cdl test right now
017um because really we're having a hard time maintaining our drivers um we're gonna have some that are gonna be retiring here next couple years um and people aren't just knocking down the door to drive a bus um mr schneider over chris is gonna gonna he's trying to studio he's working on his board bucket list um no no oh well hey for those that are listening the pay's not that bad no you're talking the longest route we have is really about an hour and a half um and that's that's out towards hunter it's not bad the kids aren't bad i mean they're kids you know you just have to manage it but with that being said if anyone is interested in being a sub bus driver or getting their cdl and looking towards the future when
018we do have some people retire y'all come on um now initially you'll have to pay for your materials and stuff but we'll reimburse you once you pass the test um we will work with you to pass that test the hardest part of it is the walk around where you have to tell the guy exactly what everything is and what it does and all that we can get you through that we have a little sheet we go over and you work it the same way every time and you won't miss a thing awesome um so there's that and if we have any problems um mr blackwell from the state department i'm always more than willing to help answer any questions we might have he's been great to work with um with dennis this year and getting
019everything kind of in order so awesome we do appreciate that like i said did a great job overall under budget 13 so we're doing good doing good well in some things especially in the transportation department you just you're going to have fuel you're going to have tires i mean you're going to have those expenses so for him to be able to manage it that is awesome well a lot of it is he's doing all the work himself notice that in the check register yeah and what he doesn't what he doesn't know how to do he's he's researching he's figuring it out on his own and if we have for the most part and if we have to we take it somewhere else that's right that's the way that's supposed to work good deal all right
020cafeteria so once again the cafeteria um i can't say enough about the ladies that work in there um now we've had some that have been out sick multiple days um we do also have a hard time getting people to come in the cafeteria uh coach taylor has stepped into elementary school quite a bit um with her schedule being a little more flexible i know mr wiggins and i've been watching we washed dishes one day and and um of course i made we never made pizzas one day for the the first send home for the weekend um but those ladies are amazing i agree they come in and work hard every day and our kids benefit from that um we got 1100 breakfast 1100 lunches went home the first week and the next weekend we did
02115 20 uh breakfast and lunches because we covered four days instead of three we had a lot of help from students and staff now the walk-in freezer that we got the grant for um will be shipped by the end of the month i don't know how long it's gonna take for to get to us um with the way logistics and stuff are right now but it's supposed to ship out the end of the month mr whitby is working with the agricult classes mr herford and them they're going to they're going to pour the slab so we can get the kids involved in that and then kind of maybe learn a little something about pouring concrete and then once it's delivered like i said all we got to do is run electrical to it and it'll
022be ready to go into service and then um of course this will allow us to continue working to feed our kids we really need the space down there at the elementary school uh it's a struggle right now really with uh us feeding as much as we are so this will allow more space inside because we can move everything in in the current freezers yeah to this okay yeah it's a good move it's a good good purchase so and that's that and then as we move into the future we do seamless summer we do something like that when all these waivers and stuff are gone um it'll allow us to you know use it more effectively and then um all right so far we're having a great year second semester i want to thank y'all for
023your special meeting earlier um that was that was very welcome basketball season's in full swing when i wrote this originally we weathered the storm pretty well um but we're running into some roadblocks or hiccups right now our game for tomorrow night was canceled at lee county due to coveted cases there and here our girls team is out you've got the game with brinkley that's supposed to have been monday night we've had to can cancel it brinkley canceled it because they have to make up conference games and we're not conference for them and so they're using that slot to make up a conference game so we're we're struggling to have a have a well-rounded basketball season let's put that way um but it'll be interesting we did receive a notification or initial allocation for the sr2
024funds it's approximately six hundred sixteen thousand dollars um which is awesome um we do have uh two years to spend it up until september of 2023 um we're researching now we researched some facility projects and different things we can use the sr2 funds on that we couldn't use the sr1 funds on okay right um now they're encouraging us to finish out the sr1 funds before we get to sr2 funds so we're looking at ways that we can journal entry and do some other things to take some of the expenses we've incurred because of covid off our operating pay for it with the sr1 and then put that money back into operating um february 1st is when you had to have your updated master facilities plan in since they released the sr2 funds and we're not
025having a informative webinar until like the 28th or 29th um chad davidson contacted all of us and what he's going to do is if we're interested he's going to kind of create a shell project then we can flesh out at a later time but at least it's on there by the due date okay um so i said yeah go ahead and do that for hvac units at the elementary school because you can use some of the esther 2 funds for air quality and hvac type units and things so at least if it's on there we have the opera we have the opportunity to explore it and see what what it really means um we have asked our faculty and staff if they're planning to return next year or not as we start getting into our
026planning phase we have had a few ask about retirement we have had a few that have already notified us they're not going to be returning um so we'll just move on with that process and we'll see how it goes um where was i um so we are looking at um our dyslexia programs we do have a program coming up it's called take flight it allows us to provide dyslexia interventions to a larger group of students particularly in the high school setting which makes scheduling easier and it fits right into our 45 minute class period i used this previously at one of other districts so we're going to a cohort with the co-op um they'll bring a guy named david hanson down he's going to do the training so it should be really good and add
027another tool to our tool belt and we'll go from there and that'll make our reading interventions and stuff at the high school i think run a lot more smoothly a lot more effectively oh i skipped over that did i um so one of the things we had talked about previously was culture developing culture in the schools getting kids active and different things capturing kids hearts is a social emotional learning culture building type program it's used in bald knob uh brian i know a friend of mine carla as the superintendent at arkadelphia she's going to implement it there and it's an interesting program um to the website here um and so uh it just helps us in ways to communicate with kids and get kids talking and taking ownership for different things um my friend carla
028actually did her her thesis for a doctorate on the effectiveness of this program um strengthened student connectedness to others by enhancing healthy bonds with teachers so developing those those key relationships having consistent rules of conduct from classroom to classroom and teacher to teacher student to student dramatic reduction in truancy and dropouts because you're developing those relationships reduction of negative behaviors a significant improvement in student academic performance district-wide improvement test scores higher rate of job satisfaction and increased teacher retention and improvement in teacher recruiting sounds good it does um the trainer here in arkansas is a guy named juan ortiz he came by and visited with me one day we actually have free or we have a scholarship what they call it to attend the training they're having in march uh me uh both principals and
029then we're gonna take two teachers with us um and so um they can kind of check it out and see what it's about okay and then we can come back and present some more information to y'all and then um okay so i know a lot of people have asked about prom they're starting to ask about graduation um the short answer is i don't know what that's going to look like the long answer is we're looking into different options prom may not be the traditional prom that we think of um with coveted regulations and things you you can't have a dance because you can't be you know dancing um so we're looking at at alternatives to a traditional prom so at least we have something for the kids um now we will have to submit it
030to the state for approval but that's okay uh ms kennedy's already been working on it um and we'll come up with something and we'll shoot it to them and see what feedback we get back and and and work it as well we can graduation same way i'm assuming it's going to be very similar to the way it was last year um but i hate to assume because things have changed since last year um numbers are going up different things so they're really um they're really being careful that's why we have to you have to submit a plan well the one thing everybody needs to realize too is we're doing all we can yes we will do whatever is necessary to to try to provide yeah as much normalcy to this as well as we can
031for other students there's going to be a graduation right i mean we're going to do something for graduation um prom i don't know um i don't feel strongly about having to figure out problems to do about graduation i just appreciate miss kennen and miss bull on working on prom trying to figure out what we're working out for yeah and then um we've already started talking about cheerleader tryouts um which is always fun um so miss bull and miss baker are working on the plan for that because it's going to have to be different um so we're just kind of we're in the planning stage our plan is to go ahead and have try to have the cheer tryouts i know i'm getting that wrong um i can't remember what it was but um try and
032get a plan in place for cheer tryouts um and then we're looking at professional development for next year i've got the principal sending out a pd assessment to see what the teachers need um from what i've seen so far it's more depth of knowledge uh response to intervention and in the plc process now back to the plc process you know earlier i mentioned that we were part of that we got a into a program to where the marzano group plc developers got a chance to look at our school improvement plan and different things so i got it back the other day from them good feedback um i talked to dr jones at uh university of monticello um here at arkansas monticello and she was ecstatic about the feedback we got how well we had responded
033to the questions and how well we fit so they were very pleased so we've just really got to make a few minor adjustments really and some clarifications and we can go into that next step and actually be recognized as a good high reliability school slash plc process and then hope to have election material for the upcoming elections in the spring but we called the county clerk to kind of nail down some dates and she wasn't sure because they're doing some things at the legislation or legislature right now so she asked us to wait a couple days so we may have to have a special board meeting in order to meet timelines okay i just don't know yet we'll we'll let y'all know and then on february 18th it is february 18th the next board meeting
034i think so um at 11 30 we'll have the the walk around of the schools uh we'll start here at the the high school we'll walk around there waiting uh uh i can't eat in the cafeteria with y'all but we'll eat in the library um i've already cleared that with miss dozier um and it'll be the first time we've eaten i know right um and then we'll go to the elementary school in tourism so yeah if y'all y'all would plan for that that would be awesome like i said we'll have our regular school board meeting that night at 6 p.m and we hope y'all can all make it to the 11 30 tour i look forward to the tour i always like that that's all i got all right um so item seven is executive
