001okay this time i call this regular meeting to order mr santa cruz can you please lead us in the pledge i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all thank you roll call madam president miss patricia jimenez president governor board member mr rudy santa cruz governing board member miss maria hernandez president governing board member mr harry gerwa present thank you next approval of the april 28 2022 regularly governing board meeting agenda is there a motion is there a second second call for the vote motion carries next approval of april 14 2022 regular governing board meeting minutes is there a motion is there a second okay any changes discussion hearing none call for the
002vote motion carries nix's governing board reports first is mr garwell yes madam president just a couple of items first of all i'd like to welcome our guests for being here and mr hanna good to see you it's been a little bit you know but i'm glad that uh we're still around a couple of items i just wanted to bring to our attention uh this evening first of all our schedule of events this next week and a week and a half is going to be really exciting you know we've got a lot of things going on especially with the solo festival and the recognition by the governor and you know teacher appreciation week can't forget that that's going to be the second through the sixth so i'm really looking forward to that so this evening has
003has kind of been my uh my norm i'm bringing forward a couple of bills that have been passed into law that i think are going to have significant impact on on school districts so the governor has signed into into law the schools in arizona will be required to provide students a moment of silence for meditation or prayer on house bill 2707. and the law requires all public and charter schools to set aside one to two minutes each day for students in kindergarten through 12th grade to engage in a moment of silence so it's coming you know onto onto the law this other one is a little more concerning for me so the legislation also greatly expanded the rights of parents to know anything their children tell a child or school counselor and allow them to
004sue if the information is withheld so you know it's just another one of those laws that are going to make it much more difficult because it's going to be on just speculation and accusations you know so i'm afraid that school districts are going to have to be spending a lot of money on on attorney fees because of this new law that's going in a second measure requires schools to list all of their library books and allow review of new books which i'm kind of surprised because i think right now in every school district parents can go into the library and they can see what's you know available and also in the curriculum that comes out every year you know the board actually does approve the books that are going to be coming out anyway the
005broad expansion of the state's parents bill of rights allows lawsuits against any school district or official for violations and requires them to prove that they did not interfere with the parents rights so this is going to be very punitive and i think for the next several years we're going to see a lot of litigation going on just on say hearsay so i wanted to bring those to our district because it's not just going to impact our district but it's going to impact all the schools in the state of arizona whether it's what we call traditional public school or charter schools so that's in my report for this evening mr president thank you next is ms hernandez i have no report at this time thank you next is myself i also want to welcome our guest
006thanks for being here it's nice to see finally that we could have some people you know in our in our governing board room i also want to thank um this week was executive assistant appreciation week so thank you very much for um for your help your hard work i've been seeing um each school the facebook and it's very thoughtful and nice that you know um the first thing that our parents see is our executive assistants um our secretary so it was nice to see them with flowers with food and so thank you for doing that um also i also want to echo mr guerra on next week is teacher appreciation week as well so it's exciting and thank you um also for everything that you do for our children and our students and i'm also

009gonna become like the next big gate because he has all the skills in order to become that kind of person he is a great student always performing at his best he's always excelling and whenever he doesn't understand something he always seeks for help he's one of the students who tries his hardest every single day he advocates for not just him but for for his classmates as well jose is a student that every teacher would love to have in this classroom academically is in the top percentage of his class and i know that he's going to reach each and every single one of his goals because he's that type of person that once he sets up a goal he's going to achieve it i love computers software and apps because it is used on almost everything

014for the isaac school district reopening with dr mario ventura superintendent estella varaza mr marasa good evening madam president governing board dr ventura and isaac community as i come to you every board meeting to report our community level of cover 19 and where we're at and also what we're doing here at our schools this is a very familiar that shows our community level low medium or high depending on what the cdc reports weekly and we continue to be at the low level of community level of cover 19 which means that we can continue with the same mitigation strategies for our schools this is something that is on change with the quarantine or isolation something that we continue to communicate to our staff and our students to stay home when they are feeling any covet-like symptoms when
015they test for cova-19 and a resource that we continue to provide is our test either rapid tests or a pcr test that they can do at our schools as well and to finalize my presentation here are the two events that are happening in may for vaccines we offer for anyone five and older and for boosters as well for all vaccines and then we also have testing the next one is happening on may 5th at metro elementary school any questions thank you does the board have any questions thank you thank you thanks approval of revised 2022 2023 school calendar messilia carisosa director community engagement and marketing is there a motion is there a second okay miss karisosa good evening madam president governing board members dr ventura isaac community uh my name is sivikari sosa and i
016come before you this evening to share some updates in regards to our revised calendar for the 22-23 school year so as you recall recall we had a committee calendar committee meeting which we focused on the three areas of start and end date for our breaks as well as winter break and ensuring that we end school as close to memorial day as possible and part of our historical practice here has been to align our calendar to the phoenix union calendar and really the why behind that is to ensure because phoenix union is our feeder school district we want to make sure that we are cognizant of that and support our family needs as well so with that we had initially worked on aligning our calendar however phoenix union reviser calendar which is why i'm here before
017you this evening here you will see the specific dates that have changed due to the revised calendar in bold you will see the dates that have shifted in regards to the first day the last day of school and specifically the fall and spring break so that will then cause some changes to ours or again is why i come before you for approval of the revised calendar the only exception with phoenix union and our calendar is really winter break they are able to do 11 consecutive days and here in this with these images before you you will see the difference between our winter break this is something that the committee discussed uh in lane in great length and realized that we needed to be cognizant of our staff traveling outside of state and then also something
018that came up in our committee discussion was also allowing our staff some time to rest and and be ready to come back after the long holidays as you see unfortunately in the 20 to 20 excuse me january 2023 uh the new year holiday lands on a sunday and this is why we uh the committee agreed that it would be best to have the second and the third off in january and come back to school midweek which is january 4th again winter break is the only holiday that does not align to phoenix union however the calendar committee really supported this specific winter break things that will remain the same from our previous presentation or my previous presentation to the board is the winter break as i just discussed and again the half days every thursday to
019ensure that our parents know every thursday is the same release time and also a lot allows our staff to have that professional development as an extended period of their learning i want to remind you as well that we did engage all stakeholders in this decision making process we use the thought excuse me thought exchange platform and this is a reminder of the data that our parents also wanted our calendar aligned to phoenix union they selected option a which is 47 percent had the highest rate of approval from our stakeholders so the calendar committee met once again to discuss these changes and they were in consensus to align our calendar with phoenix union we also talked about the why behind it as i shared with you earlier to make sure that we support our staff needs
020our family needs and of course our community needs that align to the phoenix union community as well this concludes my presentation and at this time i will be happy to entertain any questions the board may have thank you does the board have any questions not any questions just a comment madam president mr garwell so i'm so glad that you know we do have the alignment with phoenix union because i know in the past that really caused a lot of you know problems because parents had to try to split their time and you know when they would have a high school student at home and then an elementary school student and vice versa so this really does work in well for our community to be able to you know really address that concern that had been
021out there for years so again thank you for doing that thank you and thank you to the committee thank you okay call for the vote motion carries next approval of a 2 500 retention stipend for all returning employees for the 2022-2023 school year miss ling lang chief financial officer is there a motion is there a second second line good evening madam president members of the governing board dr ventura isaac community um this evening we're bringing you for your recommendation for a 2500 retention stipend for all of our returning employees for next year for this current year we paid a 1 000 retention stipend um and so adjusted for the rate of inflation and we all know what that is we're asking to increase that to 2 500. we would like to pay this as a
022500 flat amount in june of this year for everybody who has signed their contract to return and that would be flat for everybody so everybody would receive the 500. the 2000 remaining 2000 would be paid during next school year that would be based on fte and so uh and we would like to pay the first half in in winter break and then the second half of that stipend um at the end of the school year so that would probably be like mid-june when we pay out our final pay periods this will be paid out of sr3 funds and part of our ester funds and the is earmarked for retention stipends for for district employees thank you does the board have any questions okay hearing none call for the vote motion carries next approval of the

025and it continues certainly resonated that that concludes my report thank you is there any questions from the board hearing none call for the vote motion carries congratulations mr jimenez did you want to say something mr jimenez madam president members of the board all our wonderful guests here today i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for uh for this uh promotion i've been in the isaac district 16 years 22 years in education i'm a product of carl hayden high school graduate in 1996. i was born in watts california grew up in south central los angeles and i never thought that i would have an opportunity to be at this platform to support my community and to give everything that i am from my students and i continue to do it um just
026recently i had a tumor removed from my forehead and my students are like okay my eighth grade kids they're so big and you know i'm a little guy i'm like i'm i'm okay but i'm here and i'm always gonna be here for you all and um i i hope and pray that god continues to give me the grace to do what i do every day in my building and uh to have your continued support and to humbly serve you all thank you i just have to say a quick comment i've known mr jimenez for and we're not related okay we're not related different jimenez but i've known mr jimenez and um how he works very well with our families and how they love you and the kids so thank you very much i this this

028presenter to civil action of for defending defemitation policies k e k e b k e c and k e d are provided by the board for disposition of legitimate complaints including those involving individuals upon conclusion of the open call to the public individual members of the board may respond to any criticism made by an individual who addressed the board public requests we wish to address the board are advised to please limit your comments to three minutes our first request to speak is ms shannon royal good evening all my name is shannon royal i've been a high school english teacher for a number of years i obtained my master's of education degree in educational leadership in 2016 and since has worked in the capacity of administration in august i was hired as an sel specialist by
029isaac school district i was eager to start this new endeavor the reason i believed in the mission goals vision and the diverse community however in this role i have witnessed and personally experienced events that are not representative to isd's stated mission vision and strategic goals goal one exceptional teaching and learning for all students ims is in violation has not upheld the strategic goal there is a proliferation of the derogatory use of the racial slur the n-word throughout the campus daily students spew the n-word constantly and consistently every single day every single class period every single hour it is impossible to be among students and not hear the n-word unfortunately the use of the n-word is woven into ims's cold school culture the racially toxic environment makes it impossible for learning to take place for all
030students black students and staff are constantly dehumanized disrespected and degraded by being insulted by hearing the n word goal two safe positive and healthy school environments ims is not a safe campus for black students and staff there have been over seven reported instances in which black staff members have been subjected to assault and battery a black staff member was actually surrounded by a gang of students and taunted and threatened by we're getting ready to jump this inward at random we are called the n-word and i have experienced the latter personally myself as i was substituting the class these acts of assault battery violence dehumanization and disrespect directly towards black staff members make ims an unsafe environment the current school climate is unsafe socially and emotionally toxic and a healthy unhealthy institution for learning and working
031for black staff members please let the records show that i am personally giving each of the board members a detailed account of the many violent vicious and vowel attacks that have happened to black staff members on campus i have also sent this letter through email to the superintendent to disperse to the board members per mr harry garwell jr i look forward to the board providing resolution for these matters within 30 days i challenge ims our isd to adopt a zero tolerance policy to racial harassment and discrimination build a culture of respect belong in inclusion for all students staff and family members develop and monitor systems for recognizing student and school equity created diversity equity and inclusion department and overseeing proceeds leadership direction and matters that challenges equity and update the student handbook and employee manuals
032to address racial equity for all students and staff members thank you our second request to speak is from mel hannah good afternoon my name is emel hannah and it's a pleasure to be here this afternoon president board member heminus and my good friend harry and superintendent ventura i am here to kind of not kind of but to very clearly relate to the board the concern that's been brought to our attention by mrs royal the concern that we want to address is from the community at large and the we wanted to be ensured that this is was not just a single employee bringing this this concern to you the outline of the details that she shared with you are very very concerning and there was a meeting she came to us a while back and when
033i say us i have the honor of chairman as chairman of the african-american leadership and legislative council i'm also a vice chairman of the commission of african american affairs and you see a lot of other community folks here just to illustrate that this is a bona fide community-wide concern that we have in terms of the information that mrs royal has brought forward we feel that is that it's very very important to bring this information to you the board and i would would certainly want to share with you that a smaller group of us did have the opportunity to meet last thursday in fact with some of your staff with dr ventura and assistant superintendent the head of the hr and a couple of other folks so we had an opportunity to sit down with a
034smaller group and visit with your staff it was primarily informational from our viewpoint we needed to ensure that the top of your administration was aware of the concerns that we have because that concern was based on what to us appeared to be no response or very little response to what appears to be this culture of racial disharmony and particularly aimed at the black community of your school the staff the teachers and certainly the students so um we wanted to be ensure ensure that you were that you were well informed and just like to repeat the four bullet points that mrs royal shared in terms of what we'd like to share with the board in order that you can perhaps define some response that fits some of these concerns one is to build a culture of
035respect belonging and inclusion for all students staff and families to develop and monitor systems for recognizing student and school schools equity adopt and this is critically important adopt a zero tolerance policy to racial harassment and discrimination to create and mrs royal just mentioned is to create a diversity inclusion equity and inclusion department that would be responsible and accountable for these kind of activities in front and last and certainly not these update student handbooks and employee manuals to address racial equity for all students and all staff members so i just want to let you know that on behalf of the community and i certainly don't protest to speak for everyone we stand ready to assist in this challenge but we want you to realize that it is a serious as far as we're concerned very real
036challenge and it's an atmosphere of racial distress that i know that none of us really want so we're looking forward to working with you and accommodating some response as we can all become involved in helping resolve these issues thank you our third request to speak is from michael williams good evening president jimenez and the board uh when this when this issue was brought forth to me i found it quite troubling you know i'm here uh as an advocate where i work with the naacp as chair as well as the african-american legislative commission but more so i'm here as a a native phoenician that grew up in a barrio the golden gate community which i understand has actually moved into this into this community it has reinforced this community uh growing up we lived in racial
037harmony we had racial harmony uh but the complaint that has come to us is more than racial harmony it's downright disrespectable you know we as youth and individuals growing up in the valley you or anywhere else for that matter you learn to respect your elders you may say things to your friend but you're not going to say say the same thing to your elders but what's even more troublesome is the fact that there was no movement made to solve the situation we'd like to see something transparent happening where we actually get involved where the adults are in charge of the children rather than the children in charge of the adults we need to get away from the disrespect and we're willing to help you do that just reach out we'd like to see this resolve
038thank you thank you our third request to speak is from norma de aya madam chair board members uh good evening um i am uh i'm concerned and and many of the members in lulac are very concerned lulac being the we're about to say let's see we're about to have a convention tomorrow as a matter of fact and it would be i believe our 63rd convention he'll be here in phoenix um we heard about the concerns out here in isaac and we consider isaac a good school a good district i myself graduated from down the street carl hayden high school so we know all about the area here my family's been here since 1965. we're all a part of this together all of us and when we heard in the community that there were a little
039bit more than rumblings about the treatment of african-american teachers and the disrespect we did come down and speak with this the team over here that's running the school and in the district we are very concerned that um nothing concrete is happening about this we do not need this this sort of division in our communities we have to stop the hate even from the little ones in our schools we ask you to please board we ask you to please keep an eye on what's going on be a part of working with the superintendent and the teachers but we must stop the disrespect of these teachers i mean if you disrespect your teacher my goodness when will you start respecting people at all thank you for listening to me and please please pay attention to our our
040community concerns about this i know you're running the operations here we're not trying to run your operation that's not it but we come to you because we want something done we want something done the teachers deserve total respect from our students thank you thank you our next request to speak comes from ms shannon hayes good evening my name is shannon hayes i'm a member of the black mothers forum i'm also a family advocate what we do is we work to provide safe and supportive learning environments for our black and brown students we've recently been called to do the same for our teachers i found a statement that was taken from a letter posted on december 16th by sylvia karazoza director of community engagement and marketing which reads as such in isaac schools our first priority
041is the safety and well-being of our students and staff all incidents and any reported allegations are taken seriously and our schools work in cooperation with law enforcement on all police matters so i went to the employee handbook to review this policy and procedure for reporting any incidents and allegations reporting for staff all i found was a small blurb on page 25 of the handbook for reporting suspected crimes or incidents this reads staff members are to report any suspected crime against a person or property that is a serious offense involves a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument of that could pose a threat or death a threat of death or serious injury to employees students or others on school property there's no clear procedure or form available online for staff members to report any instances of harassment
042racial bullying or assault against them by students what i did find in the handbook was some verbage on page 62 about the superintendent being authorized to establish a grievance procedure for employees as the prescribed means of resolving grievances at the earliest date and the lowest possible administrative level a grievance here being defined and in the handbook as a complaint by a district employee alleging a violation or misinterpretation as to the employee of any district policy or regulation that directly and specifically governs the employee's terms and conditions of employment nothing here speaks to the safety and support of educators and staff within the district or even at specific schools this district and specifically isaac middle school has an issue with black educators being physically and verbally attacked by your students with little to no recourse or
043justice what one teacher claimed was just the culture of the school when a black teacher was called a by a student i'm calling out as disrespect blatant racism and a lack of educational leadership i'm asking that this issue be brought up for discussion in the next study session and or placed on agenda for further discussion and investigation thank you our final request to speak comes from mr now wood good evening uh governing board president yeminez and board members superintendent and staff and to our community my name is janelle wood and i serve as the founder ceo of black mothers forum i did not intend to speak tonight but i did put it down just in case i was moved to do so i concur with all of the statements that have been made but i
044would like to add to you governing board members it is your job to create policies that create safe and supportive learning environments for everyone in your district it is your job that is what you've been elected to do and so i want to remind you that when we hear of these types of things that are troubling this is bullying at its finest uh bullying is not should not be tolerated or accepted by anyone in this school our children our teachers adults anyone this is also concerning because our children are lacking respect of their authority and they're not being held accountable to respect those in authority this is troubling so we are raising up a generation of young people that think it's okay to talk to adults grown adults any kind of way they want to
045unacceptable it should not be tolerated by the teachers the staff or by anyone in leadership here and so i'm asking you i need you to exhibit leadership courage i need you to exhibit the courage to speak to this culture that is toxic at isaac middle school now i'm not quite sure how it is in the other schools but this one has come to my attention i am here as a member of this community to a lend whatever we can to work together to make sure that we as black and brown community members come together and work in harmony and unity because we all know that when we're divided we definitely get slaughtered by some of the people out there who don't care about us we've got to take care of one another we have got
046to be there for one another and i see that all these people here are here to support the black teachers in this district but we're here to support you too as governing board members we're here standing wanting to be unified so let's work together to come to a solution to stop this type of nonsense going on in this school with young people who are sixth seventh and eighth graders who have no business having the type of derogatory comments coming out of their mouths the way i've been here and they've been having it that has got to cease and desist and it starts with the governing board superintendent the principles and everyone that's in leadership thank you for your time thank you madam president and members of the governing board that concludes our request to speak
047thank you very much for being here we would definitely look into it thank you next we have our calendar may 5th it pays to be safe copic 19 vaccine event at mitchell elementary school from 4 p.m to 7 30 p.m may 6 phil field day at pueblo the school ks elementary school from 8 a.m to 12 p.m we have an enrollment of 5407. our next regular board meeting will be held here at 5 pm monday may 9th may 9th monday here at the district and for right now before we go into our study session for our strategic plan we're going to take a five-minute break thank you radius can be we're shooting the time to get out by seven no at this time our presentation of 2019-2023 strategic plan update 2021 2022 quarter three dr
048mario ventura superintendent discussion and information madam president members of the governing board as has been our practice tonight we have our update for our strategic plan quarter three i want to thank all of the administrators and staff that are here tonight i know it's been a long night but we appreciate you being here and informing the board of all the great work that we're doing here in the isaac school district with that i'd like to turn it over to dr avila who will begin us off with goal number one madam president members of the governing board and isaac community goal number one exceptional teaching and learning for all students starting with uh dr mili lilli messellema madam president members of the board isaac community it is my pleasure to provide a quarter three update on
049our strategic plan related to goal number one exceptional teaching and learning for all students our first objective within the plan is to focus on closing the achievement gap and um one one of the key strategies is to provide exceptional tier one or that first instruction that high quality instruction where students learn the first time and in order for us to do that we use a common look for walk through that aligns to our instructional anchors which are tier one instruction academic language standards-based curriculum maps in adopted resources as well as related to content area in practices and strategies up until end of march we've completed a total of 560 classroom visits those classrooms visits are conducted in conjunction with site leadership coaches and our strategists in this chart here you are able to see the
050progression for each of the quarters for three elements within that walk-through form the first one being the use of the curriculum maps and planning for instruction when delivered in the classroom you may see that in quarter three there was a slight setback that was related to the spike that we had in january with teacher absences and student absences and our teachers got a little bit off of pace as a result but the trend continues when it comes to using the adopted core materials and resources we have this quarter up to 86 percent of our teachers using those adopted curriculum materials and then the third one which i've presented to you before is the level of rigor that cognitive load and demand for learning that is presented to our students when they're instructed has increased from
051what we saw first quarter 20 percent of the time that we were in classrooms to now up to 31 we know that this is work that needs to continue and we pair the work with um continuing to train our teachers to know the standards and the level of rigor that is necessary for students to master in this chart here you'll be able to see that our walkthroughs are conducted in all content areas heavy emphasis on literacy and math but we have science social studies and elective also visited as part of the walkthroughs the second objective that i would like to present to you today is developing the high performing instructional staff we know that in order to provide effective tier one we need to ensure that our teachers have the training that they need so
052we implement differentiated professional development for them where teachers are in cohorts and we address the needs of their professional learning in various forms through the instructional half days that we have to our through our digital professional development library during new teacher orientation as well as return staff week and additional learning opportunities throughout the year the charts here represent the sessions that have been presented to teachers on the left side and then on the right side we are able to see professional learning that has been conducted with our academic coaches because they are part of our instructional team so we ensure that academic coaches principles and strategies also have professional learning in order to support our teachers with tier one instruction coaching we have we're fortunate to have an academic coach at every single site coaching
053is an essential part of professional learning in this chart here you'll be able to see the 316 educators have engaged in coaching supports and the number of hours that all of our coaches collectively have engaged specifically related to coaching services which includes structure planning lesson modeling reflective conversations feedback for learning and coaching cycles on the the chart to the right has the focus of those coaching services and as you can see top of the line here is the big lab strategies which is our one of our year one implementations for strategies that encourage our students to produce language to engage in academic discourse and to have that cognitive load when they're learning thank you good evening madam president members of the board isaac community my name is dennis lawton and i am the data systems
054integration coordinator for the isaac school district a major focus of our work with data this year has been data chess with the school principals we have a variety of new programs you can see some of them up here on the screen and dr masolemer referred to our tier one instructions so these are the the programs that we're using and most of these programs have their own way of collecting student achievement data so it's it's been challenging for principals to keep up with how how do i find the data in each of these resources so that was one of the reasons why we went ahead with data chats so the structure of the data chat is we would have a 45-minute conversation dr avila and i would meet with the principals and we would look at
055some a specific data source each time we would analyze the data and then identify some next steps to improve student outcomes we had an initial orientation in august from curriculum associates with all all site leadership and then we went on and we had about one session per month from august up until january and you can see from the graphic we're able to meet with almost all of the principals each month so this work will be important for us to continue going forward into the next school year um because again we're supporting principals with um accessing that data and being able to to address their site needs and then also support the plc's with with actionable data that they can use to to see where students are and what the next steps should be good evening
056governing board madam president and isaac community my name is dr castillo and i am the director of school improvement here to update you on objective a close the achievement gap specifically strategy three strengthen instructional interventions for students performing below grade level also known as the learning lab okay so we are still continuing our partnership with the following outside vendors in quarter three we added mind play to the middle school as a pilot the middle school students used mind play during advisory we've also added in-person tutoring with tutorfly for butler and esperanza schools so you can see on the slide the number of students who have received extra intervention what am i touching i'm touching something oh never mind just gonna use arrow sorry okay sorry about that there we go so the extended learning team
057which is comprised of a coordinator and two special specialists however this last quarter we've only had one one is that on maternity leave have provided training for teachers in the areas of imagine learning and general small group intervention routines and procedures they conducted two after-school training opportunities this last quarter we have also conducted 180 site learning lab walkthroughs so far this year and the focus of these walks is based on the quality indicators and the feedback is provided to site leaders after we visit their sites we use this information to determine where extra support is needed and what professional development is also needed we have provided a total of 147 support sessions by the extended learning team in the following areas professional learning communities data analysis modeling lessons and small group instruction working with teachers
058on planning as well as provided administrative support for interventions strategies and a data analysis as well here we provide imagine learning usage and progress data this information is sent out weekly to site leaders highlighting strengths recognizing teachers on track and reminders for opportunities for growth please note that an area of opportunity district-wide is to increase weekly minutes usage from 27 to 50 minutes current incentives encourage usage are quarterly prizes for sites teachers and students finally overall this year students have completed 85 hours of learning lab time for their intervention and this concludes extended learning quarter three thank you for your time moving on to strategy two implement a differentiated professional learning plan which prepares instructional staff to meet the needs of all students here you'll see our paraprofessionals working the classroom along with our health
059aides across the district our special education paraprofessionals and classroom health aides serve a critical role in our special education programs as they provide instructional support language support behavior support to students in and outside of the classroom they provide instruction in small groups and work one-on-one with our students on their individualized goal student services has focused on meeting the individual needs of our classified staff members by providing whole and small group professional development sessions on modeling and coaching moving into objective a close the achievement gap differentiating instruction for unique student populations you'll see here in the month of april we celebrated occupational therapy month our dedicated occupational therapists have provided services to 174 students both in person and via teletherapy throughout the school year pictured here you will see isaac occupational therapists isaac allison merlot andrea
060ellison and andrea williams and our certified occupational therapy assistant megan land working one-on-one with our exceptional learners good evening madam president members of the governing board dr ventura members of the isaac community i will be providing the third quarter updates for our ilc our isaac learning club continuing with objective a closing the achievement gap strategy one action one this slide uh presents the uh attendance current attendance enrollment for our learning labs across the district this slide representative moya ims pds mku and jb sutton and so as i've presented in the during the previous quarterly updates we have exceeded our attendance goals and this quarter we are close to 2 300 students that are currently enrolled and attending the programs across the district the next slide highlights the jb sutton guitar class and students in the
061guitar class are learning digitally during this class session after school with the use of the 75-inch interactive smart board that you see installed in the pictures so students are able to learn guitar digitally and during this wave during this era this gives the students an opportunity to learn guitar music self-paced and then last the ptco elementary school i'd like to highlight the newly created cheer class in this picture there are 15 students that are enrolled and participate on a daily basis in the cheer program the captain of the cheer team uh started uh intensive uh with her beginning of the year uh i-ready data and now uh is you know on track to uh exceed all levels of her student growth goals so we're very excited for all of our schools but i just wanted
062to share with you two programs that were recently created in our extended learning program thank you [Music] before moving on to goal 2 do you have any questions does the board have any questions no mr guerra matt madam president on on slide 11 i think it was 11 that had the number of students you know for performing below grade level just on a quick count and and i don't know if this is individual um you know student attendance or is this in its totality but in its totality this indicates there's 2827 students that are below grade level am i misreading this this information on slide 11 see there right there back up one see where it says in person tutoring 770 students and 17 so i guess my question is you know is is that
063the number of students in each one of those programs or is it also repetitive some of the students are in different programs those are the number of students participating in that particular program okay so on that particular one because this is going back to performing below grade level all right just like i said in the aggregate of all that that's indicating that over 50 percent of our children are below grade level am i reading that correctly or so each of these programs they're individualized to meet the specific student needs so for example fev tutor that's one-on-one tutoring with the student so whatever skill whatever they're working on it's individual one-on-one with a tutor so it's doesn't necessarily mean that that student is below grade level but what that does mean is whatever skill they're working
064on um whatever unless unfinished learning um that they're working on there just happened to be with that program okay not necessarily a label yeah because in the aggregate you know it looks like you know fifty percent of our students are below grade level and i don't think that's correct and remember this is during learning lab time during the day so that could be enrichment or extension okay very good thank you dr castillo did you want to add something ah okay just okay thank you thank you anything else no okay dr avila moving on to goal two safe positive and healthy school environments throughout the school year student services department has provided training to all teachers district-wide to bolster their professional knowledge surrounding social emotional learning the training has been provided at all sites during site-based
065professional learning days and targets castle's five social emotional competencies within the third quarter student services provided two professional learning sessions targeting relationship skills and social awareness with the fifth and final installment of the series occurring in quarter four targeting responsible decision making madam president governor board dr ventura a nice sick community um going to be presenting a representing goal to save positive and healthy school environments objective b to follow safety and emergency plans and use best practices i will focus first on strategy one action one where regarding arcova 19 we updated two times our mitigation plan that was based on new cdc guidelines and local health department guidance as well weekly we conducted a updated the community level on staff and our website we send a weekly email to all of our staff to keep
066them updated and to help them use that as their guidance for kobe 19. and we also attended the weekly meetings for guidance from the cdc and the local health departments one of the other components activities done here were to provide the any support either with through ppe providing more mass for school for example now moving on to the same strategy but focused on action one one of the key components here that happened this last quarter where the weekly articles for the isaac updates and regarding communication not only for staff but also for parents and the community also a very close collaborative approach with the communications department to communicate with all parties in different platforms to deliver any updates and clear communication for kova 19 and again the weekly update to staff every thursday staff received
067an email with the new community level and any other guidance or resources for community uh for covenanting this one is focus same goal same objective but different strategy different action strategy two which focuses on implement improves safety and security practices in every school in action three we had a total of 16 vaccine and testing events encoder 3. and we also added a new one provisional staff by the maricopa department of public health had a grant that could provide support to the schools by a contracting staff and we had the first one at pueblo del sol that assisted at that school and that was run in partnership with our health department through miss martinez and jeremy the other one we had 981 students that received the 100 gift card and that is the campaign that we
068are still ongoing uh which is the pace to be safe campaign for our students to receive so that's about 20 percent of our students who provided proof that they received their vaccine for copenhagen madam president governing board members and yes excuse me dr madura following goal to save positive healthy school environments objective b following follow safety and emergency plans and use best practice up strategy one update all safety emergency plans and distribute accordingly action three is develop and plan to mitigate uh risk for students and staff during the culver 19 pandemic as a represent as a representative of course of the hr department what i like to do is i apologize madam president members of the board my speed is deceptive i'm a lot slower than i look that's why i thought if we could
069do from here what i like to do is re-emphasize once again the chart that we've used as you know um the governing board uh took the leadership along with dr paduda to move with the safety uh a safe vaccination plan incentivized isaac school district plan these are our updated numbers as you can see of our 14 sites madam president members of the board dr veda we still have three sites that we're working very closely with with one more distribution and one more payout if you will so may 31st is our last date excuse me to uh to receive your vaccination and your vaccine and you could still receive the vaccine i mean i'm sorry payout if you are vaccinated by then but you can see the numbers i'll break it down even more over 699
070employees 576 have already participated in this plan which i think is great i really think that's for the celebration a celebration 82.4 of our staff currently and isaac have been vaccinated um which if you if you do the math that's 123 i have not at this point in time and if i i'll take it i'm not a mathematician but if i look at those three sites um sutton school one more one more uh employee who gets vaccinated will reach the threshold at butler school two more and preschool three more so you do the total six more employees and we're right there 80 percent across the board for districts so that's the celebration and again a reminder that we will put a community out of president members of the board dr madura to try to get
071that last push for the 250 payout thank you good evening um excuse me well real quick um before you leave can we take a picture of you the team please with the board thank you no no just just real quick you guys mind if we take a picture before they leave okay thank you yeah but it's okay okay get in here um okay can you give me a thumbs up thank you very much okay sorry about that we could continue now no you're fine madam president governing board dr ventura isaac community i'll be reporting on third quarter sports for the isaac school district and first we'll start off with the life skills and sports volleyball program which is for geared towards fourth and fifth grade elementary school students as we started the last cluster sports
072program we had a commitment of four coaches and four schools to be participating in this program however it was unfortunate that one of our coaches received an illness where he was no longer able to coach and so we proceeded with the three teams however the league itself was great as you can see in the pictures we had mitchell elementary they went undefeated they did not lose a game throughout the league or the tournament taking first place and we had the zito wildcats taking second place and butler coming in at a close third losing to zito by a mere couple of points so that was that there's life skills in sports those are fourth and fifth grade students they enjoy this program a lot and they have tons of fun we are in lag schools and
073sports basketball right now so if you guys are wanting to watch some fourth and fifth grade basketball it's a lot of fun come out and watch it we have games monday tuesday and wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m next is uh middle school sports so for the isaac school district third quarter middle school sports um these are the four sports that our sixth to eighth grade competed in through the vac which is better known as the valley athletic conference as you can see here these are our numbers of students that participated in those four sports um unfortunately coming back from the pandemic this was a rebuild year for all of our middle schools we didn't have the success we hoped for but i know the kids loved getting back into the groove of doing sports
074and being out there with friends and being able to compete against other school districts and schools and so given what our coaches and our students have put forth effort we know that we have lots of success coming in the next years and we look forward to that i believe that is it yeah thank you moving into grow heart of isaac community center programming the heart of isaac had 483 visitors during quarter three which does not reflect phone calls and visitors to the hoi giving closet 37 families sorry 43 family activities and 202 family referrals were completed throughout the third quarter hoi continues to connect families to our trusted community partners the higher requested need for quarter three were food diapers baby items keo appointments and car seats in addition to referring families hoi has brought
075back the hoi resource day in which 15 to 20 community agencies bring their services and intervention information to our community in these pictures we see some of our partners and families sharing and building connection during our march hoi resource day and the next one will be taking place or just past rather april 20th hoi family education workshops families continue to receive various opportunities to enhance their skills and build new ones through the core topics such as family stability parenting and health and safety through a combination of in-person virtual hands-on and parent-child classes one of the more popular classes offered in quarter three was special family support group and here you'll see teacher elena estrada and her son brian sharing their story and answering questions families left inspired and hopeful hoi team continues to assess the
076needs and current events to determine the topics offered to the community hoi continues to honor and celebrate the community the community's holidays and culture one of the more popular events for quarter three were diane los reyes day of the king through a combination of donations from chicanos por la causa valle first things first and isaac employees the hoi team was able to give 400 toys in addition the hoi continues to have the community baby showers celebrating arrival of future isaac students and connecting moms to important topics such as postnatal care car seat safety and nutrition here are some pictures from the day of the king family event and also i would like to take this time to to thank the promotores team and the parent education team for helping us with this fun event due
077to the rise of cloven in february the hoi community baby shower was virtual nonetheless we had a total of 26 moms participate virtually and it was another successful community baby shower the parent education team continues to stay busy building bridges with families we understand that families who have less barriers are more prone in being involved in their child's school building bridges between school and community is an important aspect for the team pillar number two of the parent education program community services addresses the connection to community partners with the goal to decrease barriers a total of 111 family referrals were completed this was school uniforms utility assistance food bags those were the top three requests from our families pillar number one isaac school district leadership and pillar 3 parent education provide parents opportunities to participate in
078various workshops to help gain knowledge and leadership with the end goal of being their child's primary teacher and number one advocate parent educators create a monthly calendar to help communicate all of the great education opportunities to families in this slide you see the january calendar is shared throughout the district with our families some examples of our parent education workshops offered to parents in quarter three were the common sense media digital citizenship triple p parenting classes learn about my school classes and active parenting for teens in addition to the parent education opportunities offered through the parent education team the after-school parent education program provides our families additional options to help meet their educational goals 64 families are currently enrolled in this program good evening madam president governing board members dr ventura and isaac community my name
079is soviet carisoza and i come before you this this evening again to provide updates on our communications department as it aligns to objective c develop a communication strategy for greater community and family awareness strategy one action three so today i am excited to share updates with you in regards to our social media and our strategic and intentional efforts to continue to promote to the great events and the great individuals that we have here at isaac school district as well as using it as a platform to connect with our students parents community members and staff our goal continues and continues to be on also branding and building the culture here at isaac school district and a big effort is also placed on our recruitment efforts with staff and students so today i'm going to focus my
080presentation on providing information in regards to two specific areas in regards to social media the first is the social media demographics and facebook posting i'd like to provide a specific terminology if you will in regards to facebook there are three different distinct terminology or terms here the first one is like and really like it basically just describes anyone that engages with our page anyone that follows our page the second is engagement so this is in addition to them liking they engage whether they comment whether they share and that's another level beyond just liking our page or post and the third is reach so this helps us and provides us with data in regards to the individuals that again really interact and based on the algorithm and facebook which is pretty pretty neat really as i'm
081learning more about it allows our individuals to be then targeted and tracked with the information that we share here i have some data to present to you in regards to facebook pages we are proud and excited about the opportunity that because of our communication ambassadors that the board approved for each site we have individuals that support and drive the work of the facebook pages of course with support feedback and follow-up continuation as we meet together typically monthly to provide feedback to them and to continue to grow and refine our processes with our communication platforms this data here again is specifically for the facebook page in regards to the likes so the state of the total 3118 are the total school pages liked within our district this number here 5170 includes the isaac school district official
082official website so that is in addition to our site facebook page along with our isaac school district facebook page as we drill down into the data i'd like to share with you a little bit more of the data that is really provided by facebook which is a great platform that allows us to look at the data drill down and really help us be more intentional with our communication efforts and engagement efforts with our community members if we look at the first one the first image it really talks about the gender demographics so facebook also allows us to drill down and see what are the demographics of our followers in addition to that it then breaks it down to a further detail in regards to the age group so that then helps us as i will
083explain further in my presentation here this evening how we use this data to be very intentional in our communication efforts excuse me to share a little bit of the background in regards to the work that goes into our strategic and intentional planning efforts we first identify and choose photos and images that will help tell the story of isaac or a specific event at our site we write effective copy and copy is really just another word for content and we upload the specific content and then of course that is our efforts in connecting with our followers that ultimately then raises awareness of isaac school district and as a as i shared before for the individuals that like it for the individuals who share it also increases the number of engagements that we have per post and
084per page here i'd like to share additional data with you as we look at january through february excuse me january through march of 2021 in comparison to data from january through march of 2022 the blue indicates 21 and the orange indicates 22. as you see here uh for most sites there has been an increase this year 2022 and we attribute that again to the continued efforts with our communication efforts that we have at each site but also the accountability in regards to ensuring that they stay and active on their page and continue to inform their community members of what's happening at their sites i also would like to note that in some instances you'll see that the blue for 21 is a little bit higher for instance isaac school district and ims is is the
085inverse inverse of what we would like to see and we're drilling down into the data to really understand this one thing that we researched my team and i is isaac school district during 21 obviously that's the time of the pandemic where we really focused on providing that was our main area of communication platform with our community members and students and of course parents ims there what we saw and what we found which is great data is they posted a lot of videos and we know that video gets a lot more attractions because people share it they view students that they know teachers that they know which in turn helps clarify some of this data here that you see before you another piece of data that i would like to share and also highlight is this
086is a data based on quarter three facebook reach district wide here you'll see january february and march and as i mentioned earlier we are continuing to drill down on the specific different data points that facebook provides we are still uh man digging a little bit deeper to see what's the difference what happened february in comparison to january and march but we also found the more events that are happening the more information that we get from the different sites and also just reinforce the great things that are happening as they are shared here at the governing board meetings we continue to post that and we'll continue to see an increase with our communication and engagement efforts in regards to boosting this is a a new area that we are venturing off to in-house here typically we
087have vendors that do this work and we have to pay a good amount and so we decided let's take things into our own hand and see what we can do so we've invested a hundred dollars and here this data will show that if we were to post this organically as facebook also claims it to be we would have only reached 154 individuals however because we paid and invested a hundred dollars into this effort we reached a total of three thousand eight 3085 followers so again in regards to our recruitment efforts this specific image and post is really about recruiting students so this was part of our recruitment efforts in ensuring that we share out with different individuals that isaac school district is now enrolling the reason why we decided to boost and pay for this
088is because this then reaches outside our community we know that most of our community members are already attending one of our isaac schools we wanted to tap into the community surrounding us and outside of the isaac boundaries to tap into more individuals parents and of course students and the same goes for staff staff recruitment we also invest this was a little less again this is a trial and error this allowed us to have baseline data we invested 20 for this the organic reach number would have been 362 alone when we boosted this invested the 20 dollars we were able to reach 1121. so based on our learning from this we our goal is to continue the boosting efforts and continue to refine our practices to increase our number of followers increase the number of engagement
089that we have in our different platforms and we also look at the data that is again pulled from facebook in regards to who is who are the individuals that are following us this data then shows our facebook page likes the individuals and the breakdown and which is great we're reaching and tapping into people outside of our isaac boundaries but it's also a good thing to note that it's in the phoenix area arizona of course to allow those individuals to consider and move their students into the isaac school district and or become a part of the isaac family as a staff member so with that i conclude my presentation and ask you if you are not already following us on facebook or instagram do that now because that also increases our efforts of communicating and engaging
090with our community at this point this concludes my presentation and i will entertain any questions the board may have my question is are you on facebook the board on facebook following the isaac district now go ahead i do have a question unfortunately it didn't have the slide number on it but in two slides you know the first one was 3118 likes the other one was 5170 followers are these all individual unique or are they you know repetitive that's a great question so followers are unique numbers likes are then something that i can like it and then send it to you and you could like it and so that's sort of the algorithm that facebook plays and puts out that the more we share it or post or having any interaction with it increases our opportunity
091to engage with different individuals that's great because the unique's really what you're looking for otherwise you know somebody could click 100 times on there and excuse the data for yourself right i'd be spending my evenings doing that but that's not the case i just have a quick comment mr arenas going back to the uh employees my question is what are you going to do to get that number one employee number two employee number three employer to get that shot and president members of the board and dr madura we are we are doing everything to incentivize no pun intended but to incentivize those six members uh we work with principals we'll continue to work with colleagues and we'll do everything we can and again i know it's a sensitive issue however we're doing everything we can
092to get to that threshold but we're six away from meeting that all across so again that's a great effort i really commend our staff but we'll get there i'm confident we will okay and the other thing um i i i i'm a social media person so i notice that in my page i'm getting different schools and that's why i think that's very good and we should pay probably more than twenty dollars to get teachers or you know because i get yeah we should because i get um different schools and i wondered how in the world you're being targeted missy men is but in a good way right that's and that's the efforts now and now i get it you know i don't know how you did it's very good that we're doing this you know
093the way to recruit and market and so yeah i'm very impressed so thank you um you guys need a break or do we continue continue okay we'll continue thank you thank you are this is miss baraza is this you mr madam president governing board isaac community and dr ventura i am back to report on goal four which focuses on improving recruitment and retention of employees and that's objective a and i will focus on strategy six action one particularly on promoting registration and engagement of wealth styles our wellness program for staff and the current inceptive program as you can see here on the graph we started the program for the first time here at the isis school district back in the fall when we kicked off our assembly for all staff and our initial goal was
094to engage and have registered 35 percent of our staff and that was based on the different research that we did where organizations have a health and wellness program and typically it's a 35 percent of their of staff employees signed up so we wanted to be competitive with that and as you can see here by the end of march we have reached a 49.8 percent of our staff that registered to be a part of the program by the end of march we saw here an engagement on this graph you can see that we started very well back in august with an engagement of 75 percent and at the end of march we ended up being at 59 percent of engagement that means that 59 of staff who registered for the digital application of will styles were
095engaged where they uh logged into their app on a daily basis so it's about 59 of them uh 59 of engagement for that here we continue with strategy six section one and um here again just to give you a brief of our first year participation go as i mentioned 35 which was an average of 210 staff and the table here will show how well styles has so it's a digital platform it's for tracking health habits so anywhere from steps to i went and got my yearly physical wellness physical with my physician and one of the main goals here was to really think about how we were engaging our staff and the level uh that they were gonna be engaged and the level is based on what they earn so if somebody is tracking and being
096highly engaged and doing all the healthy habits and they earned up to six thousand sixty thousand points which will earn them a two hundred dollar reward that they can redeem as they as they're earning it so it's about 20 first as they reach the first milestone and then it will go up to the 200 at the end of the year or whenever they reach it so here you can see our main goal as it was back in the fall and now looking at quarter three at the end of march we reached our surpassed our goal from 35 percent to 49.8 percent of people registered but as you can see here which goes back to our engagement we had a goal of 20 42 staff to be really to registered and then they probably were not
097going to reach any level so about the first level was a 5 000 points um that was tracking their steps that was completing a health survey in the beginning that will earn them about 5 000 points one of the key uh points here so we surpassed every goal so far from uh the level of resistance the level first where they reach 50 uh 20 then the level two they earned eighty dollars and then a level three that's the 140 dollars and then the level four which is where we want our staff we wanted 35 percent of the 35 percent that registered to reach level four and we are getting close to that goal again we're still in quarter three and then and the program will end at the end of june so here we also
098had on the blue table here you can see that we had 20 of the people who reached level four surpassed and reached now level five which just adds them to another bucket to earn a different giveaway that will styles provides here's how we did it uh we had a huge support from the champions out you uh met earlier today three of them we had one at each site and that's one at one h school and department so the each site hosted 60 of i'm sorry a total of all of them there was 66 challenges that were created on the will styles app by the champion and that means that could be a step goal hey let's reach a step goal for the weekend or for the week or less track a healthy habit like sleep
099or drinking water or doing meditation and we'll do it for either a day or we'll do it for the weekend or we'll do it for the week and it was people who already registered they could say i want to join the challenge and if they did the habits and if they track the habits then that will earn them points towards their levels that they want on to reach so that was one way of engagement uh in addition to them earning the 200 as they continue to reach their goal one of the other things that the champions did was that they also provided recognition either at staff meetings and they also provided engagement the other part that was done was more education so we did 12 articles and quarter three on our weekly updates and we
100also had our champions that were again at each site and here are just some of the success stories from our from our staff we have the top staff with from mitchell a librarian who mentioned that he really enjoyed the healthy tip cards for that are on the well style so that was a daily tip card that they could earn them up to 40 points on a daily basis and then we have another staff from pitiko she's a kindergarten teacher and she mentioned that since the program started she lost 10 pounds and has gotten stronger my exercise and hiking that's what she has been doing and this were highlighted on our isaac updates as well and lastly regarding this goal in the same objective same action one of the key components that we wanted to bring
101the digital platform into a physical form was by redesigning the staff lounge i don't know if you visited the staff lounges before the pandemic which is probably the last time that somebody was on campus before we started this program one of the key things is that we really wanted to make them more of a place of well-being and relax and really to encourage that culture of well-being at each site so here you can see jb sutton who completely redesigned it by removing the furniture clutter anything else that was there and then adding more engagement by having a table having more of a couch type of lounge area and each side truly gather feedback from their staff to redesign how they want it to fit and personalize for their site here is the preschool again it
102was a place of storage for everything and anything and they redesigned it by adding tables really painting the area and organizing and cleaning it up and then the other one that we are highlighting here was the grounds team also had the redesign and the redesign as you can see looks a little bit different what they requested was a a master cooler for their area because of the hot uh temperatures during the summer and for the most time of their work day here in arizona they really wanted some place to just cool off and take some time to cool off when they took their break so that was what they selected for that to be at their place and we have um this were three of the lounges that were done in quarter three for the
103most part all of them have completed when we have some that are still finalizing it and i'll share that in quarter four i would say good evening once again madam president governor board members dr ventura and guests so as we continue with goal 4 a premier workforce that reflects and sustains the values of our community objective c created workforce culture of high performance strategy three develop and grow your own talent pipeline for future teachers and classified support staff the actions aligned to the strategy and the objective are offer coaching for certification licensure for future positions paraprofessionals providing classroom coverage and certified emergency substitutes paraprofessional staff currently enrolled in college teacher prep programs oops so our classified support staff to teacher initiative i know we we have reported on this abandoned president governing board members however
104i think this is a great emphasis that we want to continue to develop this pipeline currently we have six classified support staff members enrolled in the asu teaching program staff continues to work at their designated site while completing their practicum hours concurrent engagements what we call it the work cohorts that are represented right now in those six classified support staff parent educators paraprofessionals and food service employees opportunity this also provides an opportunity to provide classroom coverage at their home site as you know that's been a sensitive critical challenge for us and many of our sister districts as we know providing classroom coverage it's this straightens the pipeline of bridging our own employees with opportunities to continue to serve in their own community i mean it says a lot especially today this has not been trivial
105or facetious in any way gas five dollars a gallon almost so when you're able to walk to work or travel three to four blocks um i think it says a lot go forward as we continue with the workforce that reflects and sustains the values of our community employee as you know improving employee recruit recruitment and retention you know we often talk about recruitment i think the critical piece of recruitment is that only just recruitment it's retention retention so we want to recruit select and retain excuse me highly qualified staff to increase student learning and repo report turnover retention rate data uh recruiting selecting and retaining highly qualified staff to increase student learning and report turnover retention data share this with campus administration the performance indicator here is as stated or has shown excuse me retention
106rate of teachers now this data um i think is very very important as the process goes on all employee contracts i want you to know governory board members dr ventura the madam president that this is a big piece that we really took upon ourselves per our uh directors from document do and i really what can we do i wanted to keep consistency so all employee contracts and work agreements were issued they were published during the month of march it's a catch-22 we don't want to be too early yet we don't want to be too late right in the game our hr staff said it communicates to employees and isaac updates so we continuously supported our communication of when these uh deadlines were coming up for um for these employees to rep return their uh contracts
107or work agreements principles supervisor and leadership teams were communicated at all timeline updates with respect to employee cohorts again engagement you know i i think i know i'm speaking and preaching to the choir you know how important is to consistently send the message out hr department sent updated return rate return rate to uh reports to leaders and the volunteer transfer i think uh man and president my man thank you for highlighting that at one of our previous governing board meetings we really emphasize that allowing an opportunity for our teachers to transfer but then a portal within a process um and it was certainly voluntary on their part that was completed uh that was completed during the month of april teacher return rate for 22 23 so as we look forward as we look that we
108know there's going to be a lot of hiccups this is not our first rodeo collectively in the hr world right we know things are happening we know that we have one more week of april if you will and then we have may june july things are always happening however i'm happy to report i wish it could be 100 really right but 87 percent of our staff uh are returning uh to to uh to isaac's school district next year i think that's very telling and the reasons for those who may not be returning and a lot of this is anecdotal i don't have the strong the exact data but i know in talking to a lot of our families relocation pro-growth opportunities and the commute and once again highlighting the fact that uh unfortunately that gas
109is about five dollars a gallon and we know that and you know the story there ninety-two percent of our total isaac school district employees are returning for for next school year that's total that includes our classified support staff and uh and i think that's very telling i think that's very telling i'm really excited to to uh but i don't want to jinx myself so i'm very careful when i share the document do that because um because things happen we know that folks but this is a good rate at the at this time of the of the school year especially as we're landing the plane recruiting efforts are active and align the staffing needs hr is working with our campuses and our respective departments as we always do and the partnership just as a reminder you
110know this i know that however asu gcu pc phoenix college esi you know our educational support incorporated that's our return to work programming they help us with with uh substitute classroom coverage they've been very instrumental in working with us hr department and and esi we have a great relationship our tfa teach for america and of course our international teacher alliance objective four is we continue with premiering the work a premier workforce that reflects and sustains the values of our community so as we improve employee recruitment and retention our strategy is to expand the incentivized program to attract and retain the best employees how do we do that by developing a system to promote current incentive programs health fair dr ventura when i came on board i know one of the biggest i think an anchor
111that really helped our community in many ways our employees was the health fair that uh that i think dr metuda led along with miss marti miss marie mighty scholar our benefit specialist in hr a big shout out to her and the department we rallied and we were able to use this as an onset to open enrollment so back in march march 17 2022 we hosted uh at imsr health fair uh it was our kickoff to enrollment as i stated approximately 250 staff members attended keep in mind this was probably we were still under mitigation plans keep in mind we know code was was alive and unfortunately well i mean because it was impacted a lot of us but there was also that transition period where people are ready to come out people our employees wanted
112to come out they wanted to put their mass down more importantly the vendors that were here we had um over 20 vendors they uh we don't have raffles in our district as we know right we have giveaways so they were very very supportive in being part of our community being part of our biometric screening was was something that one of our booths had and it was just really a celebratory occasion for two reasons one three reasons health fair so promote health well-being i think miss baraz would like that of course in all of us and also it was the answer to the kickoff you know it teed off open enrollment and again it allowed us to celebrate recognize see our see our um our employees so let me also continue with open roman we are
113one of the first districts to complete open roman we're done which i like that's a double-edged sword i know because people are waiting with contracts you know the stories are we am i going to resign i'm not going to resign we push the envelope miss marie marie scott hr benefits specialist once again big shout out to her in our department manna president governing board members dr ventura and guests we made a concerted effort to reach out to our employees we called him miss pat padilla called our classified support staff members if we saw that they had not signed up for open enrollment we called them we did everything we could to get them in to make sure and we know that sometimes many times there's technology issues so we brought them in we had one-on-ones
114with them and uh and we worked on them and we made it it's a safe haven it should always be a safe haven but it was certainly not adversarial it was hey we need your help um you know you know again i i don't want to laugh at myself but i listen to eight tracks so this technology that was a joke this technology it's it's difficult for a lot of us i want to make sure that we ensure that our staff our employees are taken care of so we're done with open enrollment we're still doing some cleanup but i think that's that's really telling again as we continue we offered our continuous learning uh opportunities district-wide as i mentioned in the spirit of time i don't need to report repeat the goal but we will
115compile and make available and continually update a list of conferences professional development and learning opportunities for our staff grow with google series this continues with mary rabago as you know this expanded it expanded to grow with google program 12 staff doctor matura started this a few years ago i believe but this last year he said move it push it get it out to all our employees so participants as you know engaged in virtual training led by mrs mary robago as i mentioned 35 participants from various departments 35 participants and i think that says a lot about those those individuals who want to participate a hundred percent of those who complete at the end of class survey share that the training was helpful the comments that share that highlighted their training was they learn organize their
116google drive how to create spreadsheets and you using google templates i think the staff wanted me to go through that series as well but that concludes my my portion of this report madam president members of the board thank you before before we move on to the last one do you have questions no okay thank you okay good evening madam president members of the governing board um i will provide an update in those of you who are dvr in the game you can close your ears but the sons did win 115 to 109. i thought i'd tell everybody hey thank you it's great news thank you for that report that's operational excellence if i've ever seen it i'll tell you goal five next time i'm going to petition that we go backwards with these so i
117have to do it last every time goal 5 is operational excellence across every school and every department um objective a has to do with establishing inclusive and timely budget development process but we go down to action 4 and that's providing reports to the governing board superintendent the cabinet the staff and the community regarding budget and expenditures and this evening i'd like to report on the elementary and secondary schools emergency relief funds that we received otherwise known as esso that word's been thrown around for a couple years now and they were provided to us as a reminder to address the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on our students for learning recovery to help our districts sustain and open on a safe operation of our schools and we had to have a plan on how we were
118going to spend this and everybody had the opportunity to provide input and if you remember i presented our plan back in october after we did some significant meetings with staff families everybody got to have input and so it's very important out of that input we have four areas that were identified to spend our money one was learning opportunities and innovation and as part of our essa funds we have to spend 20 percent of them on learning opportunities and learning recovery the second one was health and safety and student support student parent and staff engagement and building and classroom upgrades so in section number one or a was learning opportunities and innovation to date we've spent approximately seven million dollars in that area many of these things you've already seen presentations on this evening i just
119decided we just decided where to spend it spending it as somebody else's job so all of this pretty much comes out of the teaching and learning department the in-school one-on-one or small group tutoring the isaac learning club and as mr harris said earlier we have an enrollment of almost 2 300 students that is absolutely phenomenal we have new curriculum in five different subject areas we have an online the online academy um current enrollment is about 210 students and then obviously our extended learning and that was extended summer school for last summer and then again we're going to do it again for next summer the next area was the health safety and student support and that we've spent to date approximately 989 000 almost a million dollars on it um we're back to the 40 of
120the staff that signed up on well styles to implement an incentivized wellness plan for all of our employees we have additional fresh fruit and vegetables that we provided to our students this year we were able to get some different fresh fruits and vegetables for our students to try and some of that is supplemented with other grant funds we did get the fresh fruit and vegetable grant at many of our schools this year and then our mitigation plan and safety supplies so we hired our community health and safety specialists mrs stella she did our continuous update of our district and school mitigation plan we did our vaccine incentives for our staff and students right our stipends that we paid our staff mr arenas was i'm kind enough to go through that gift cards for our students
121and then to maintain an adequate inventory of safety supplies at the schools and in the warehouse and then the social emotional support we have a counselor and or social worker at each of our sites right and then we have a social emotional specialist that we had hired for our middle schools specifically to deal with the sixth graders transition because remember our sixth graders that came in this year hadn't been to school for a year and they went from being in elementary school in fourth grade to being in middle school in sixth grade and missed that kind of that whole year in between so we wanted to make sure we had additional supports in our middle schools the students parents and staff engagement we spent to date approximately two million one hundred fifty eight thousand dollars
122um starting with our communication department we've expanded that and enhanced it significantly with our new community engagement and marketing director miss carricosa we updated our district website we've used our new interactive communication platform called thought exchange we've all um we've used it several times both outside with our families and community inside with our staff and our students we have professional development for our primarily for our teachers but also as you just heard for some of our classified staff through our new curriculum adoptions and then a new teaching strategy called be glad for our staff retention we paid retention stipends this year to 681 individuals we added 14 additional teachers to reduce our class size we reviewed and revised our salary schedules in order to remain competitive and i'll say we reviewed and revised them several
123times this year we took up we have provided opportunities for some of our part-time employees to work the additional hours in the isaac learning club to gain insurance benefits and currently we have five of our part-time employees that are working in the isaac learning club and they're now receiving health insurance through the district because of that and finally our building of classroom and building improvements today we spent about 2 million 137 000 um we contracted with a vendor to provide an assessment of the district classrooms and primarily this vendor that we worked with on was dealing with the furniture working with a committee of teachers from all different levels to look at new furniture how can we upgrade our furniture looking at different scenarios and so currently they're compiling in order for us to order
124new middle school furniture and then the next step would then be to compile the order for our elementary school furniture they have identified the types of furniture that they would like they they they we had walkthroughs we had model rooms set up so the teachers could come in and pick out the things that they liked um they did surveys so it was a very intense process and i think dr avila and her her team over there for um going through all of this and running it for us um as part of this we're also purchasing new flooring for the classrooms this went to the board last time the current pos we have out for butler sutton and pt co uh again this is what we could get we wanted to get it in before the
125price went up the next step will then be to continue with the other schools as as we go along um our hvac units and air quality we purchase the air purifiers for all of our classrooms our office buildings and for most of all of the common areas so our total expenditures for this year for fiscal year 2021-22 is approximately 12 million 299 000 that's so exciting to say that we could spend 12 million dollars our allocation for this grant was 34 million 830 000 we spent the 12 million 299 000 we are setting aside approximately five million dollars for indirect cost indirect costs are is um are you know the cost that it costs to administer the grant um there's a certain level of amount that we can set there but one of the things
126about the indirect cost funds is it it really helps the district in kind of a broader sense because these funds as we spend our money we can take up to 25 more and put it into indirect costs once we put it into indirect costs that money that those funds become much more flexible than what they are within a grant situation so to say that we're taking indirect cost recovery and that it it's not saying that we're not going to have those funds to spend what it's saying is those funds are going to become more flexible for us we're not going to have the restrictions that the grant has for spending that money and so our remaining balance to spend is 17 million 306 thousand or we can go back and add in the indirect costs
127which would be 22 million 500 000. so we do still have a fair amount of money to spend some of the upfront costs that we're doing now are obviously not going to be something that continues because if we were to say we only have 17 million and we spent 12 this year we're not going to get very far with it but think about some of the things that are one time expenditures that we have out there right now and that mr david you're next madam president members of the board good evening wow i thought my eyes are getting worse i can't see that i forgot my thing i'm going to turn around a little bit uh um anyway continue with uh goal number five um i won't go ahead operational excellence across every school in
128every department again we're going to focus again on the establishing and comprehensive plan define priorities and performance standards for maintenance grounds buildings and buses against using some of those sr phones has really helped it's really infused some of our projects besides not just depending on sfb again we try to do as much as we can in-house using our staff hvac and some of the electrical that we do we try to use our staff to to do that with the hvac units that are going in throughout the smaller units that we're installing again it's a supply chain issue you know so as we're getting them in we're we're installing them so we get to install maybe two or three a week or so and and move on forward so it will take us some time to
129to finish out most of those are being focused upon leela austin's as we're upgrading those older units um electrical some power supplies for safety issues too uh notifier those are fire panels that needed some upgrades as well um radio dialers those are committed for the life safety systems those are uh radio dollars that communicate back to the the fire department and to the monitoring company so they can do dispatching for either a fire alarm or a security alarm and those were five sites car t smith teaching and learning esperanza moya those uh again were older units that needed to get upgraded the fencing there another safety issue there one of the things that we did there was install some right iron fencing against the uh the bus loading in the loading zone just to give
130some separation as students get prepared to load or disable the play so they don't fall into the curb buses have to get in there pretty tight to get up against the curb so that was uh something to keep the students away and load onto the to the bus another live safety issue with some upgrades there for the fire alarm panel over the boys and girls cub the total cost for the previous slide in this slide was about sixty thousand we spent uh on those particular projects um some more ongoing projects these are again sr funds these projects here is uh all of that money that you see there is not has been spent it has been encumbered that's for the materials to order the lvt or luxury vinyl that will be going down at those
131particular schools so we'll be replacing quite a bit of flooring with the new luxury vinyl in the classrooms and certain areas in those uh in those buildings again those are sr funds as well the um roof and we since car t smith is at school we can't take to the smb because we're not using it as a school we're leasing it out uh we were needing to do a coding just to extend the life of the project that has a project that should be starting here pretty pretty soon and that's just a recoat of the roof again these were the 30 units that we installed we're still in the progress of ongoing there that was the total price again we're installing those units as we go and as we receive the units continue on these
132are sfb projects these these two next slides you'll see was probably sold in butler these costs that you see there were monies that we received for the smb for the design and specifications those are all complete we received the money so all we sab has invoiced and all that money has been paid out by the sfb there's the other two zito and jb sutton these projects are um again design phase and they're ready to get bidded out the the total price that we received for the srb for the design phase of the roofing was 157 thousand 27 and 50 cents ptco and alto e butler these are two new applications that we just submitted this past quarter this is for a roof assessment for pt co that'll be the last roof throughout the district that
133we'll do with the sfb once these other four get approved and done then this will be the final roofing left and then ultra e butler this is exterior wall assessment we have several other ones but it's a new one that just gets submitted for the alter ebutler the roofing systems that i just mentioned on the previous slide were these four schools um those are complete and designed these have been turned over to the business office they're in the process of getting those together and get procurement so you can probably expect on the timeline that um probably within a month you'll we should be getting the bids back those will be presented to the to the board uh scope uh so we can get those approved and then from there once those are approved then they'll
134get sent out to the sfb board for approval uh so hopefully by in a month or so you'll be seeing those come across again this is something that we share everything this is data that we collect from school due to intelligence this is something that they do and collect for all their clients again this is a rolling 12-month number of work orders that we we've completed uh again this is uh basically something that um uh dr uh mr nunes and his team are are a big part of it again we we're the main goal is to stay in the top 20. in other words they're completing the majority of work orders within seven days so again i know he's limited on staff but the goal is to stay on the top 20 of the clients
135and he's been doing that so hats out to him anyway if you got any questions or anything else i'd be happy to answer anything does the board have any questions for the team before we conclude mr garwin mrs lang a question for you when we're looking at you know the esr funds that were coming through how is the governor's initiative for summer programs that he just announced along with lisa graham keegan is are we going to have to use some of our monies to do that or is that a different pot of monies that the governor is putting out for school districts to use for innovation and students mr garwell that all comes from the governor's money it doesn't affect us at all we'll still we will still use some of our funds to support
136summer school but the the money that we receive from the governor on those grants is strictly his money it's part of his gear money that he received okay but his grant won't cover the entire cost well okay i just wanted to make sure that we still will pay for some of summer school yes and that money comes not only from our essa funds excuse me it's also supported by our 21st century grant and our entitlement correct that's great i just want to make sure because i know in the the marketing piece that came out with lisa graham keegan and he it implies that you know they're paying the full uh you know amount but we know that's not true um so i want to make sure that you know people don't get confused because they'll
137say well you're still using the esri monies when the governor is paying for this right but he's only paying a partial a portion of it correct okay thank you and that's it no more questions comments anything no dr mantura when's our next meeting thank you very much for um i think i made this comment that's the reason that i wanted the picture you know we were at naleo why am i saying uh national school board association and it's really nice you you know when you go to these sessions and a lot of um colleagues don't have a strategic plan so when you hear that oh we have it so it's it's awesome and and i know that you know next year i think we're gonna keep working on it and you know getting better so
138thank you very much for your hard work do you have something to add just a reminder that may 9th is our next board meeting will be very short and then followed right after by a board retreat where we will be looking at a self-evaluation and reviewing goals for the district okay so other than that thank you very much be safe have a good evening meeting adjourned you
