here thank you Mr Gerald this Madam president just a couple of items I think I mentioned before that I'm a commissioner on the Career Technical education commission for the State of Arizona and we had our meeting yesterday which was rather interesting because we were just looking at curriculum and making sure that the standards were you know all meeting the criteria but towards the end of the meeting we had some legislative updates and some other issues that came up one in particular that I wanted to share actually two things came up the first one was that you know the Department of Education had approved a curriculum or a program for a conference that's coming up in Tucson starting next week Wednesday through Friday and there had been a lot of discussions you know about the relevancy
of culture and Trauma and how it impacts on students and in communities at Large and then abruptly at the beginning of this month um that those sessions were canceled by uh you know now super secretary uh superintendent of Education Tom Horn uh because he took over as a as a leading the department of Ed now and a couple of things that came up is that he was talking about in terms of the administration's considered social emotional learning and diversity inequality to be a trojan horse so he doesn't believe you know that these issues are really out there and he suspects that they're somehow going to be used for critical race Theory so we've been very fortunate we haven't had any issues with this but I can assure you that just in the first three weeks
of this Administration I think we're going to really need to start to focus on and listen to what he's saying about this they also ended up taking out a lot of other presentations and they replaced them with sessions on improving math instruction Suicide Prevention and how to improve student academic performance according to the education department again this is the new Administration that's coming in so the horn Administration holds that social emotional learning has no place in the classroom they regularly hear from teachers that disagree however they believe that you know this really should be focused on uh just the curriculum and looking at math and science and those kind of things so I think we need to be prepared for that coming up I think it's going to become a little bit more of an
issue for us and the second thing was that the attorney general or auditor general just finished a report on Esser funds and there were some concerns about the amount of monies that being spent on salaries and where they're going to be sustainable I think that's going to be another area where this Administration is going to start to look at and come around and starting to really delve in to where school districts use those funds and if it's going to be sustainable in the future so just a couple of real critical issues that I think are going to impact Us in the very near future because like I said it's only been three weeks and they're already uh so with that that'll end my report Madam president thank you Mr Hernandez uh yes I didn't have
no comment Madam president I just wanted to welcome everybody and um say it's nice to see everyone that's here this evening accompanying Nest this this meeting thank you thank you next is myself um I want to thank everybody for being here I want to thank Moya for hosting us thank you again for a wonderful dinner thank you for the beautiful gift thank you very much for the gifts that you give to the board I just want to say thank you again for the updates um I really enjoy all the the literature that we get you know besides following every school on Facebook and what you do like I said I'm your number one fan uh but it was really amazing to see you know how we're getting so involved in wellness and thank you Miss

data shows that our district actually attracts more students than leave so we we bring in families from other districts that choose to work to come and have their children taught here in Idaho so we thank them for that and thank you to our teachers and all our staff for creating learning environments where kids want to be this is also that our survey season we have a lot of surveys it's important for the district to collect your voice teachers students parents families because we want to make informed decision as we move forward in our school Improvement efforts and decisions on how we spend our funding so if you have these surveys being you might get a text message or an email please complete them because this information is very very important to us that concludes my

and Curriculum maps one of our goals this year is to ensure that students are doing the heavy thinking in the classroom carrying the cognitive load this means that we allow our students to be the primary thinkers and doers through peer-to-peer conversations utilizing the academic language that they use and the academic vocabulary allows them to increase their communication skills and allows their thinking to become visible to their teachers moya's goals for Student Success are in alignment with District anchors as an instructional Council we have been working together to combine the district anchors with the needs of our Moya students and our Moya School community at the beginning of the school year it was really important to us that we discussed the importance of social emotional learning that is needed within our schools our formula for Student
Success is cemented on not only social emotional learning but also the academic thinking so our school culture of Learners with both our staff and students are participating in ongoing learning opportunities each day we are prepared to learn new things and prepared to challenge ourselves our teachers participate in professional development that is aligned with our district anchors and School site learning goals District strategists work collaboratively with our instructional team and teachers in an effort to provide support for rigorous instruction we are very lucky that we have District strategists that can help collaborate with our school sites and help our teachers provide that rigor using school-wide data and collaborative efforts enable us to drive instruction that is student centered and this shifts that cognitive load again which allows our students to be the primary thinkers and doers
in the classroom thank you moya's Behavior plans are aligned with PBIS the positive behavior intervention system s at Moya are committed to the three b's be respectful be responsible be safe at Moya we do have an informal fourth B which is above all be kind each semester students participate in a PBIS rollout and this rollout is a platform for student understanding of the daily expectations and student Behavior um and student safety during our second step lessons with our social worker Miss pla students learn the importance of being respectful to themselves to others and to the environment as part of our be our positive behavior system students earn pride tickets every week or every day and they are redeemed in our PBIS store at the end of the week our parents educator collaborates with families and

to be of high transmission as well and then M Parks formerly known as monkey pox it's uh staying within the numbers that I had presented in the past and again this is a health disease that is not trans not seen much in our population with kids but is still reporting to spread awareness around this and lastly with all this health diseases we continue to encourage and follow mitigation from the CDC and Maricopa County and four easy steps that we continue to encourage our community to know their risk for any of these diseases so they know how to take action to continue to get vaccinated and it's okay based on health experts advice to get the flu and covet vaccine together at the same time to continue to stay home if sick or are positive for
