003an exceptional student, Renato Choa, for her outstanding academic achievement. Ranata was selected as the winner of the Arizona 529 essay writing contest that was sent to us. Um, standing out among more than 850 entries from students across the entire state of Arizona. Out of all of those submissions, only 20 winners were chosen statewide, and Ranata was the only winner from Santa Cruz County. >> This is a tremendous accomplishment and a moment of genuine pride for our entire community. Ranata's thoughtful writing, creativity, and dedication truly shown through her essay. Her hard work earned a well-deserved honor. On November 3rd, she was recognized at the Arizona Capitol building where Arizona Treasurer Kimberly Yei personally presented her with a certificate and $529 toward her new or existing a529 education plan. >> What an incredible experience and achievement. 007Good luck on your game right now. Okay. Good luck. >> All righty. Moving on. recognition of the Riruka High School's uh girls volleyball team. Mr. Verdugo, >> thank you. Yes. Uh this year our volleyball team sitting here in the front row, but a historic team for our school district uh being the first team to win the 4A Hila Championship. So, congratulations to them for that. But we also had a lot of individual awards, coaches awards, but I'm going to ask Mr. Lopez to come up and share about the team. All right, Madam President, members of the board, Mr. Rodo, um, proud to be up here. Can't imagine how proud I am of your ladies. Um, our athletic director, Mr. Laughlin, couldn't be here today. He is at a plus visit up at Chandler High School.
008So, he brought up something I would like to share and then we have some people who like to come up here before, of course, they answer any questions you may have. Um, I know our coach is really looking forward to being up here. So you could tell if so coach V as well more to come on that topic. So the Rico High School athletic department would like to proudly recognize tonight the 2025 volleyball program. This year's volleyball program finished with an overall record of 23 6 and one including an invitational championship at the Nameire Classic hosted by Flowing Wells High School. The season also included a winning streak of 18 straight matches between September 16th, October 27th, and also not losing a single set between September 15th and October 11th. The 23 overall wins and
00915 PowerPoint match set school records. On October 23rd at Douglas High School, this team clinched its first ever region championship before finishing 8-0. that is eight and0 within the 4A Hila region. The volleyball region banner now hangs in the time to fly arena recognizing this historical feat. Other first in the program, head coach Alexis Bermudees. She was named the region coach of the year and also senior Sophia Gusman was named the region player of the year. Other other great highlights beyond this um is not just the banner but the fact that and I we say this often in this room that the head coach was part of the best class from Mico High School. That's just a side note here. We are beyond proud of the program under coach Bmudas. Her leadership program is to
010be commended for its ongoing progress and for being a model program in the athletics department. So, I'd like to just echo that beyond the script that Mr. Laughlin shared is ladies, you're not just great volleyball players on the court. You truly embody that student athlete, which is so important at our school. You guys are students, then you're athletes. So, you guys truly are leaders on our campus. You're not just leaders on the court. And I cannot say that enough because I've heard that from your teachers. I've heard that from counselors, from many, many other staff members on our campus. So I'm incredibly proud pr proud of not just what you did on the court outside and you continue to do this year. So I know we have Sophia who was regular region player of the
011year who would like to share some words with us coming up Sophia. Um, hi. I'm a senior and I honestly didn't really have I just want to say thank you to you guys. Thank you guys for all of the support. All of our teachers. Um, it's a really wonderful community. Thank you to our coaches and this team. I wouldn't switch it for the world. Thank you to all of our parents who make it worth it. Um, yeah, we've had a really a lot of ups and downs, but honestly, I think just the fact that we played it hard, um, I wouldn't switch this team for the world. And that's it. >> Thank you. Thank you. Good evening. Um, it's surreal. I I still can't wrap my head around what happened this season. Um, we definitely
012worked extremely extremely hard to get to where we're at. Um, most of these girls have been with me for four years since they were freshman. So, I we kind of grew together. we kind of built this team together. Um, you know, and those who, you know, we'd pull here, left or right, just kind of filled our puzzle and we completed our puzzle and we were able to, you know, to be unstoppable really. Um, we had one goal and everybody knew that that one goal needed to be accomplished and we put that in our minds and we made it happen. Um, volleyball wasn't a sport that you hear about really in Miracle. I mean, I graduated in 99. I played it my four years. You know, it just it was just volleyball. And now the fact
013that what the girls did, you know, is a huge impact to our community. And I'm hoping that, you know, we get more involvement with other schools or, you know, people more people want to come to us instead of going elsewhere. So that's my goal to continue being strong with the program and of course I love my girls and you know some are leading me and I'm really really sad but I'm really proud of all of our accomplishments. So and thank you to the community and all the support. I appreciate it. coach said about the the trend that you guys set um that athletes from Arizona were so dominant because having the pleasure of I had coverage um a couple times and there were times that I didn't have to cover a game. I still went
014to the game because it was so exciting to watch you guys play. I would always give you guys a hard time before the game, right? gay face and but they were so dominant and that was so inspiring not just to you guys but also the rest of the school because I other teams other athletes were talking about you guys and you guys have such a huge impact on our school and I'm so proud of you guys for that. Now before I move on I know we have we want to have you guys want to post questions we can have all the team come up however you guys madam president you want to because we do have >> what certificates >> they have certificates I think or Oh yeah, we're gonna present. We have a Rico
015High School coach of the year award. This goes to coach Alexis Vermaldz for being selected as Norwegian Coach of the Year. Okay. >> I've been trying not to. >> Thank you. >> That that is for the to the entire team. >> For the team. So now we'll have all of you ladies come up here and we have the Rico High School 202526 girls varsity volleyball team for earning the 4A Gila region title for the first time in school history. History. coach would come up. >> Coaches coming up, please. Alexis. >> Yes. Coaches. Coaches. >> Without them. >> I can get so I can get a picture with you guys. >> Tall people. >> Oh, not tall. >> Mr. smiles. One, two, three. >> There it is. >> Ready? Any uh comments or questions? More. >>
016Yes. Hi. A huge congratulations to all of you. Um I myself and Mr. Lope had the opportunity to see you play. I believe it was the game against uh Sawado if I'm not mistaken the night that I was there. And the game is just so intense and so exciting. >> It was just wonderful to watch you, you know, to watch you play. Um, but I believe it was your hard work, your dedication, and your teamwork that uh made you shine through. So, we're very very proud of you and congratulations to to all of you and your parents as well. And also I want to give a huge congratulations to um uh coach u sorry I wrote myself a little uh note here so that I wouldn't forget what I wanted to say but again yes
017your hard work commitment and dedication to our students a athletes is admirable you know as a coach's wife I know the many hours that you are away from your family and uh I just want you to I I just want to say thank you thank you for that because uh just know that this family, the district 35 family really appreciates it and at the end it all that hard work, all your long hours and your commitment and dedication shine through again and congratulations for that. >> Thank you. Appreciate it. >> Congratulations to you guys. Fortunately, I didn't get a chance to watch you guys play, but I follow social media and saw the the W's start to stack up. >> So, strong work on that. You know, Coach Bermudas, it's it's it's amazing what you've
018done with the program. Um, creating a winning culture is something that's not, you know, easy. Um, and you've set the bar high, right? >> So, uh, keep it up and, uh, congratulations to to all you guys. You guys deserved it. Strong work. You're only as strong as the weakest link. So, hats off to every single one of you individuals because you all put in that hard work and you pushed each other to get to the point you are and to be the team that you are. And hats off to Sophia. Not only are you a good public speaker, you know, you have ice water in your veins, you strike me as a good thinker, too. And Mr. Fanning, who is a really excellent coach and led our team in 2004 to the state championship in
019basketball, used to say that when you're a good athlete, you have to be a good thinker, too. So, I would imagine that you did a good job there with regard to your leadership. Speaking of leadership, wow, Alexis, you're just really the most humble coach I've ever known. You're so humble because really your efforts to get these gals to get the job done are really something else. They're inccommensurable. And I just wanted to thank you for all that you've done. And yes, I mentioned you last time, but I I really meant every word and my governing board because I know you and I in lots of different ways as a student, as a colleague, played hoops with you, as a colleague >> and uh a lot of fun. But I tell you, you're very dedicated, very
020dedicated. Our community, it takes a lot to put a team together and keep them together throughout an entire season. And to go from what was it October all the way to November was it >> out of loss? A lot of loss in the set. Wow. >> That's something else. Really something. >> So you really represent our community with pride. I too wrote some notes down here. Let's see. And but you know what? I think I'll leave it at that. Again, thank you ladies for all that you did and for winning that Hila region championship and hope that you continue with us, Alexis, and continue in the same spirit even though you're going to lose some seniors. By the way, which one of you you guys are seniors here? >> You guys are gonna have to
021celebrate, you know, before you check out. Thank you seniors for your leadership and again thank you ladies and the whole program. Wonderful >> great news. Thank you so much said uh you and Mules were the best class but you also had the best teachers. Ah, >> I'll go ahead and start in the back with the parents and I'll just work my way uh from the back to the forward. Thank you to all the parents because I know as parents the commitment you have to uh do as parents with uh fundraisers with going to out of state meets the budgeting your finances just to go to Phoenix to watch them play especially when they uh go to tournaments and they get into the region you're playing in Phoenix you're playing over here. So uh thank you
022to the parents for support supporting your uh child and supporting the program. Uh, Miss Bermudas, uh, Miss Munoz, I know as a coach, the hard work that it takes, the dedication, sometimes you're at school before the sun comes up and after practice is right about now, the sun's dropping and that goes on for three months and, you know, you don't see daylight basically. Uh, your time and commitment uh, not only during the season, but uh, uh, in the off season uh, definitely paid off. So, uh, congratulations to the both of you and congratulations on winning, uh, Hela coach of of the year >> and to the team. I know what it takes, uh, to be a champion and that's a lot of offseason work. You know, we get the board minutes and I know you
023guys have gone out of state to some clinics in New Mexico. I know you guys uh, go to a lot of clinics uh, during the summer and that's what makes champions. Offseason makes champions. So back in my day, it used to be you could play three, four sports, but nowadays it's almost a year- round commitment to one sport to become champions. So I I appreciate your hard work and dedication and uh congratulations for making uh our community and our school district uh proud. So thank you. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Everything okay that I wanted to say. I wanted to thank the parents. I wanted to talk thank the you know the the coaches. Congratulations to all the girls. How many of you guys are juniors? Oh my god. Okay. So you have a
024a lot of work to do. Okay. Well, you know the good thing is like you know he was saying okay that you guys are able to you play the sport year round you know and I think that is going to really really help you guys and uh you know and uh and again it's the dedication it's the the love of the sport. Okay. the, you know, the camaraderie that you guys get with the girls and everything and I think it's amazing. Okay, I hope you guys, those of you that are graduating, I hope you go on to your colleges or to your universities, wherever you're going to go and continue to play because it's like it's the best thing to ever do, okay? It's like fantastic. I love it. Don't you dare say anything. No.
025Anyway, don't you dare say anything. Anyway, congratulations to each and every one of you. I'm so so proud of you guys again for all of the awards that you've gotten and for everything that's still yet to come. Okay, so congratulations guys. Thank you. >> Olympics. So she's an Olympic volleyball player. >> I am. >> So there's a lot of history. >> Yes, there's a lot of history. I love the sport. I love >> She loves volleyball. So she that's why she don't say anything because she's she's humble as well. I am >> one of the only local history that we have here in our community. So, so she's really proud of you. >> I'm very >> just like her history, your history will be in our gym for >> forever banner. So, you'll know that
026you get to come back >> your 10 year reunion or wherever you walk in that gym and see that history for our district and you're have that up there as Hilo champions knowing that this was his team. So, congrat >> that was me. I did that. So, so congratulations on industry and thank you for our our district and our high school and our community. So, thank you. >> Thank you very much. >> Would you like to leave? You guys can leave now. >> You guys have a happy Thanksgiving. >> Have a happy Thanksgiving. Happy and continue to play hard. Play smart. Okay. Byebye. Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you very very much. >> All righty. Moving on. Okay. Recognition of the healthiest school award, Mr. Verdugal. >> Ask Audrey to go
027ahead and come up. She has share about uh the award or awards for each of our school sites. >> Good evening, Madame President, governing board members, Mr. Veroo, Dr. Lerbell, and Mrs. Brown. Um, and so we wanted to do tonight is uh share I know we had had mentioned it before in previous work but we wanted to share the video that they made um that they printed at the conference and then also just provide her with certificate. So she got her some nice flowers as well. Thank her for all of her continued support and work for our district and community. So >> I started school at what used to be um elementary school. >> Damn. I have six kids. I was um
030unified school district number one for about 18 years from college for 26 years. I've been fortunate to know for 20 years. Um she was starting her her career um in working in ISS after decid our our students okay and our and our community our teachers and our administr we live in a very small community wherever they want to go, whatever they want to do. >> I'm very proud. So, this is Miss Vasquez. A heartfelt congratulations to you. I read yesterday's press release and I couldn't agree with it anymore. Your commitment, dedication, and devotion to our students is commendable. During these past few weeks at our school site visits, I watched you interact with students, and it was always with the utmost respect and care. I was able to see how former students of yours recognized
032you and immediately approached you with a big smile and a and hugged you tightly. That to me says a lot. Thank you for being you and I'm happy to know you and be working alongside you. >> Congratulations. Thank you. Thank you for >> Oh, no. I mean, it it was it was such an awesome video, right, to uh you know, it's I've known you for for a little bit now and uh it's it's been it's been fun uh being here with you and you know, being around you and stuff like that. Your laugh is contagious. You you bring that, you know, to to everything that you do and and it's it's obvious that you're super passionate about everything you do. you do it with love and care. >> So, congratulations and uh we hope to

His spirit right on that court. Real reflection of you. >> I know how dedicated you are. not only as a mother but as a member of our community. So it's been fun working with you at Calabasas before we even came here. So I know what kind of work you did there as well. So it's excellent work. So I want to thank you for all you've done and I want to
034say too very this is real important point that I nominated you as president. So I expect You deserve credit. >> Yes, you deserve, >> you know, lunch at least. >> I know. I know. >> Or a cafe. >> Yeah. I I'll get you a Red Bull for his coffee. Okay. >> Thank you. Thank you very much. I appreciate it. >> Or a flower. >> Yes. >> Yep. Remember this. Everything they said, you almost made me cry. >> Almost had me, you know. But, uh, 44 years as a teacher, >> 44 systems. >> Yep. 44 years as a teacher. Now, uh, making the commitment to, uh, being a board president and being on our board. We're super happy to have you here. And like everybody else said, thank you for your commitment, uh, to our community,
035to our students, and to the sport. And congratulations on your award. >> Thank you. I appreciate it. Thank you very, very much. Ah, >> Can I move on? All righty. Moving on. Uh, superintendence report. >> Thank you. >> As said, we've been our site visits and thank you that have been able to attend. It's been very positive. We've been doing both the students and staff on different days. Um, so we've been able to to see some sites multiple times. Um and one of the sites um on our recent visit was Rio High School and we got to council and it was very positive to hear the things that they were talking about of how they can improve Rioa High School and um recent conference that they attended um and sharing information of how they were
036feeling proud about themselves and representing our school um at these conferences. So it was great to hear that the students just talk positively about the things that they and are doing and then also they asked what else can they do to to improve the school which was nice to hear. So, it was great to hear from them um just you know asking questions of us of what we would like to see um and and recommendations and so we said we we'll come back with some other stuff as well but it was it was great to part of that wonder congratulates all of the school sites um for the coin boards um which they re raised a ton of money um I think it informed me this morning 95 um gift certificates for $70 that will
037be given to families throughout the district for Thanksgiving. Um so which is a great contribution to our community. So I wanted to thank all the school sites and all of our students for participating. Um and then of course um cross country uh state runner up um talking to Mr. Shadler before he says on paper we're fifth uh going in. And I said well that means well we'll be right in there for the championship. And of course we were right there uh with a a rival Paige that you know I think the McFarland movie is is good but I think there needs to be a movie about Rico and Page because of the amount of region sectional championships and state championship state runner up that both of those schools have had and continue to compete. I
038know I'm sure it's going to be again next year the same two schools will be competing uh for the state championship but we were state runner up um which is another trophy that in our trophy case. So, congratulations to the big red machine. Um, and I know we got a lot of runners coming back. I think we lose our number one runner, but I think we got everybody else coming back. So, we'll be right in the mix again. And also to on the girls side, Isabelle, who finished seventh, you know, I know that she was um working hard trying to get up and was close. I think the distance between fourth and and seventh was like two seconds. So, it it a big finish there. But, uh, congratulations to Ron Medley again at the the
039state. for and of course volleyball for making it to the playoffs and unfortunately losing the playoffs but they had a great season. >> Great. Thank you. >> Okay. Thank you very much. Okay. Uh governing board members report Miss Lariva. >> Yes. Thank you. Um I wanted to say congratulation to all the fall sports win or lose. Thank you. They played hard, their dedication, and I just wanted to say thank you and congratulations to all the fall sports I have here, football, flag football, cross country, golf, and of course volleyball. >> But thank you and congratulations to all of the fall sports and I am very much looking forward to uh winter sports and uh thank you to Mrs. Renderia and Mr. Lopez for welcoming welcoming us to their site. Um, everyone was welcoming, food was
040delicious, and we especially enjoy conversations with students and as well as the staff at Rio Rico High School. >> And we're also I'm also looking forward to uh more sites. I think we're doing more in January. So, I'm looking forward to those. I also wish to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Verdu for being named superintendent of the year. um you are truly deserving of this recognition. I have worked closely with you over the years at Calabasas and then here at the district and here at the district office and I can knowingly say that from the start you always have had students and staff best interests at heart. You have worked diligently with the administration to ensure that our students and staff have the necessary tools to achieve their potential. Thank you and congratulations. I
041could say more, but I'm gonna keep >> congratulations. Yeah, good job. Good job. All right, >> I just want to echo that. Congratulations, Mr. Congratulations because again, other than that, I have nothing to report. >> Thank you, Mr. Ramirez. Yeah, congrats David and Lis again for all that you've done and I just want to wish everybody a happy Thanksgiving and I hope you enjoy your time off and you don't get caught up trying to do school work. >> Enjoy your friends and your family. >> Absolutely. Absolutely. Thank you. Uh Mr. uh >> uh let's see. Congratulations to our cross country uh uh team for being a state runner up. Uh thanks to our CFO Isella Brown and Superintendent Berdugo for keeping the Tubback Citizens Council updated and for all your community outreach. Thank you. Uh
042congratulations to the Rur Rico High School arts students in conjunction with NHS and Lincoln Elementary School for winning the NIL man's mural uh of the year award. Uh it's a beautiful mural of a big looked like a ba baing well or something like that. Yeah. But uh the mural was awesome. They deserve that. So congratulations. Let's see. Junior Alc, we had a marksmanship in the air rifle uh competition. Third place goes to Hector Guzman. So shout out to Hector and S. Kaano, Mr. Rearia and Miss Sarah Boswell. Thank you for uh being our tour guides out there and showing your beautiful school. And yes, meeting with those elementary kids. Uh >> they're sort of tougher than the high school kids. I like that they're very demanding. >> Yeah. >> You know, >> so uh some
043of their demands were they demand strawberry milk. >> Strawberry milk. >> That was high on their number one demand was strawberry milk. So, uh maybe we can swing it. I don't know health guidelines that, but maybe we can get them that strawberry milk. >> Uh they also wanted two more Reuben's. If you don't know Ruben, Reuben is a custodian over there. >> They love him. >> They love Reuben. Okay. So they need two more. That comes down to finances around. So that's tough. But uh another big wish of theirs was a sha shade structure on the field. So whether we get trees out there uh or a shade structure, we can definitely uh work on that. I'm sure we can. >> The last couple years I've been I've been going around uh site visits. I
044did some on my own uh and also with the board. I I know we do have some challenges out there. Okay. Uh I see a lot of teachers still doing a little bit of blended learning, a little bit of uh direct instruction, little bit of computers uh with other forms of education, moving at the same pace. I talked to some some of those teachers. I feel comfortable, you know, doing it that way. And I'm sure they have other units where they do more personalized. Uh I see teachers that are doing personalized learning and I know there's we're dealing with this right now. Okay. So we understand that. But the main thing is are the students learning. >> Okay. And I know we need programs. We need curriculum that's aligned to personalized learning to make the
045teacher's job a little bit more uh not easier but uh help facilitate that learning process. And uh one on a side note, if you ever get a chance, go see Mr. McFersonson at at the high school. He has it pretty much down. He has a program that he was showing us during one of our site visits. And I go, "You know how you got so many students in and doing with uh FFA, with cows, with chickens, with pigs, and this that, and the other thing, and they're all different assessments." He goes, "I couldn't do it without this program." And he showed it to me. And they get online and they take five different assessments for one standard. and it takes the average of those five and it populates his grade book. Like he doesn't even
046have to do grading and that takes off up about 40 to 60% of a teacher's time is actually grading and inputting those grades into uh the grade book. So he he's got it down, but if you have a chance, go visit and maybe take some pointers off him. But uh thank you Mimi for uh for hosting this. Yep, that's all I got. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Thank you. Thank you very much. And uh Okay, everything they all said everything. You even got me with the I I thought nobody's going to do about the rifle easel, but it's okay. Anyway, I was read I read all of that anyway. It's okay. >> He stole your thunder. >> He stole my thunderies. You know, I've got nothing to say, but no. Yes, I do. Again, you know,
047congratulations to all the sports and to everybody to I mean, it's like what can you say? Everybody says it all. Mr. RDugo, congratulations to you. I'm very proud of, you know, of your of your accomplishments and I know that there's going to be a lot more. Okay. But and Miss uh uh Missella Tam, you know, with all of the things that you guys do, you know, with all of these um meetings that you guys have to go to and you're keeping us always informed of what's going on and everything. But, you know, just congratulations to everybody. Thank you very much for all of your hard work and for all of your dedication and and you know, and for everything that we do. So, you know, thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
048Okay. All righty. Moving on. Information, discussion, actions. Number one, uh policies. Uh Mr. Verdugo, >> nothing policies today. >> Okay. >> And then just item B there prioritized topics. Um next governor is December 9th. And just a reminder that we only have one meeting in December. >> Yeah. >> Due to the holidays. Um same as November. We only have this meeting in November due to the holidays. Um and then we have the ASB conference December 17th through the 19th. >> 17th >> also when we come back in January we will have our first regular meeting and organizational meeting together. So I just want to remind the board that that will be one meeting starting in January >> in January >> and at that point we will set the rest of our meeting dates for the
049remainder of the fiscal year. Then again those of your topics are there. Any additional items at the board? >> Is there anything you would like to add, Mr. Mr. Mr. Ramirez? >> I have nothing. >> Nothing. I don't either. Okay. So then we're good. >> Okay. We move on to consent agenda. All right. We moving on to the consent agenda. Um does anybody have any Let me see. Where am I? Where am I? Okay. Because any member of the consent agenda will be any any sorry any matter on the consent agenda will be removed uh from the consent agenda and discussed as regular agenda item or items upon the request of any board member. Does anybody have anything? >> I I do madam president. Item number one please. >> Number one. >> Yes. >> Okay.
050>> This one right here approval of the minutes. Yes. >> Yes. Okay. Uh and anything else? No, just that one for you. Okay, Mr. Guerrero. >> Nothing. Mr. Ramirez, >> I have nothing. Thank you. >> Nothing. Nothing. I have nothing either. Okay. >> I want to just say though that I want to thank the people that donated like always. >> Okay. >> We can never thank them enough for all. >> Oh, no. Okay. Okay. So then, does anybody have a motion? >> I can move to approve, accept, and ratify the consent agenda as presented with the removal of number one. >> Of number one. Okay. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> All those opposed, nay. >> Eyes have it. Motion passes. Uh, Miss Deariva on number one. >> Yes. Thank you. Uh,
051Madam President, I just wanted to uh correct my mistake. During the October 28th meeting, I recognized the Rio Rico High School band for placing first at their band um competition. And I said that it was that it had been held at Floyd Wells. >> Oh. >> It was not Floing Wells. It's my mistake. It is at it was at Walden Grove. So I apologize for that mistake. I just wanted to make note of it and make the correction that it is Walden Grove and not flowing well as I had mentioned. >> That's it. >> All right. >> That is a very egregious error. >> Don't let it happen. >> Please as you know. Okay. All righty. Do I have a motion? >> Motion to pass number one of our agenda. The agenda agenda. >> Okay.
052All those in favor say I. >> I. I. All those opposed? Nay. Eyes have it. Motion passes. All right. Now, next >> I know. I was like, where is it? Where do I go now? Okay, here we go. Um, executive session. >> Just a recommendation that we do not move into executive session for this topic. >> For this topic. >> All right. No executive session for this one. Um we go move on information discussion uh teacher of dismissal of teacher. Okay. So >> okay here I go. Okay. Superintendent Verdugo will you please present the statement of charges at this time? >> Uh so the board received the statement of charges previously meeting. I hereby present the governing board with a statement of charges against teacher Nathan Sjakowski and requested the governing board take the following
053actions relative to the statement of charges. One conclude after having reviewed the statement of charges that the district has sufficient cause to dismiss Nathan Sakowski if allegations are true. Two, the governing board votes to provide Nathan Shakowski with notice of its intent to terminate him. And three, the governing board designate a hearing officer to hold the hearing evidence, prepare, and reports recommendation to the governing board for action. >> Notice of the tent attorney, Mr. uh he will have 10 calendar days he is served with requesting hearing. >> All righty. Thank you very much. Okay. So, does anyone want to make a motion as to whether the allegations presented in the statement of charges presented by the administration constitute cause for the dismissal of the teacher Nathan Sanjikowski? Is true? >> True. >> If true. Okay.
054I move that the allegations presented in the statement of charges presented by the administration would constitute good cause for the dismissal of teacher Nathan Centigoski. >> Second. >> Okay. Do I hear a second? Second it, Mr. Beach. Okay. All those in favor say. >> Huh? >> Point of order. >> Yeah. We Are we going to have any discussion? Because we're supposed to have discussion before discussion. Do I do >> any discussion? >> Okay. Any discussions? Mr. Liva? >> No. Mr. Guerrero? No. >> Mr. Ra. >> Thank you, Madam President. Um, will that entail if we have a special hearing? Are we going to have to have another governing board meeting for that? >> We would uh do it at um our regular scheduled board meeting, >> but you said we would only have one meeting
055this month. >> Yeah. So, has that if not then it would wait until the next meeting in January. >> We have 10 days >> to to to call for the hearing so as a procedural so call and request a hearing until schedule our next regular schedule. >> I just wanted to make that very clear because >> any more questions >> no m and I have none either. Um well there was a second motion right? All those in favor uh say I. >> I. >> All those opposed? Nay. Sorry. Nay. Um eyes have it. Um motion passes. The board. Okay. >> 5. >> Yeah. So, yes. So, the second >> Okay. So, then I go, is there a motion to provide Nathan Sanjakowski with notice of the governing board's intention to dismiss him from his employment
056with the district? >> So moved. Second >> be seconded. >> Okay. So, okay. So, then all those any questions or anything? >> No. Any discussions? No. Okay. Um, do I hear a second? Okay. All those in favor say I. >> I. All those opposed say nay. Eyes have it. Motion passes. The next one is the governing board will need to designate a hearing officer to hold the hearing, hear the evidence, prepare a record, and issue a recommendation to the governing board for action. Is there a motion? >> I move that if a hearing officer is not selected by mutual agreement of the parties, the governing board designates Harold Merk uh to be the hearing officer in this matter. >> Second. Hold on. There's >> there's there's a second >> there's not a second writing. However,
057>> however, if Mr. Murk is not available, I move that the governing board designates Clyde Dangerfield uh to be the hearing officer in this matter. >> Second. >> Okay. Um all those in favor say I. >> I. All those opposed, nay. >> Eyes have it. Are there any discussions? >> No. No matter. >> Okay. I'm sorry. Okay. All right. Uh the next thing is that that I I would redo the vote. >> Yeah, if we can hear the vote again just to to be clear. >> Okay. So then I would say >> Okay. All those in favor say I. >> I. I. Okay. I. All those opposed? Nay. >> Okay. Eyes have it. Uh motion passes. Um then right here. Okay. That is all the action that is required on this agenda item. >> Thank
058you. information uh executive sension uh superintendent contract and okay the board may move into executive session at any time during the board meeting for discussion uh or consultation for legal advice with the board's attorney and or to consider its position and instruct its attorney regarding its position on renewal of the superintendent's contract and related matters. The board's attorney may appear in person, virtually or telephonically. Telephonically do I hear a motion >> motion to convene to executive session in room in conference room 125. >> Second. Okay. >> All those in favor? All those in favor say I. I. >> All those opposed? Nay. Eyes have it. Motion passes. We are going into executive session. >> All right. to have. Does anybody have a motion? >> Yep. Motion to reconvene a regular session. >> Okay. All those
059in favor say I. >> I. Second. >> Oh, we need a second. Sorry. >> Second. Okay. All those in favor say I. >> I. All those opposed? Nay. Okay. Motion passes. We moving on. Information discussion. Superintendent contract, >> it's me. Number one, action to approve the the direction given uh to the board's attorney. That was there wasn't anything during the executive session uh identified as item 7A. >> If there was no >> there was nothing. >> So then you just move on to item B. >> Item B, superintendent Khan action to approve a superintendent employment agreement for superintendent Dave Y. July the 1st, 2026 until June the 30th, 2029. I have a motion. >> Yeah, we're going to discuss. >> Do we discuss? >> Say something. >> You're good. >> Okay. Are are you okay?
060>> You can discuss after after you make the motion. >> Let's make the motion or move to approve uh superintendent's employment agreement for Superintendent David Wyberdoo. July 1st, 2026, June 30th, 2029. >> Second. Okay. All those in favor say no. >> Discussion. >> Oh, discussion. I'm sorry. Discussion. You have any discussion? No. Do you have a discussion? No. Mr. Ramita's discussion. >> Yes. I want to tell you, Mr. Google, that you have a vision that I think that you've seen through very much appreciate. I've been here now. This is my the end of my coming toward the end of the seventh year going to be in May. And I just want to thank you because as I've said to you today and I didn't always see eye to eye and had a lot of controversy
061sometimes we saw you saw the ship through co really that was a very tough time when and the board was not as united as it is now yet through all the controversy somehow or another we always remained professional with each other and then even later or you know developed a good friendship I hope I can say from my side anyway. Maybe you don't share the same, >> but no, I've seen you grow in the in that time and I've seen you uh be very transparent. Once when Mr. Shadler was here, I said, you know, I made this illusion. I don't know that people really understood, but I said, you don't do all your dealings like Greg or Sam, you know, in the dark. And so I was very happy that you did a lot of
062the stuff out here in the open. I was rather shocked that you chose to do that because a lot of superintendents wouldn't do that and they would be afraid to have tough discussions about things. But you weren't and you even responded to some of the criticisms mine too and not just mine but several of the board members over the years. But I had some pretty fierce ones and you responded to them and you're very gracious. You know, you could have been hard on me and or you could have taken a really you could have been contra, you know, we could have been abrasive, >> but you weren't. And I want to thank you too for the interview you you gave me. I hope that you'll do it with the other governing board presidents, but I
063I was very grateful for that. And again, very gracious of you as a superintendent. You didn't have to do that. And so, but the biggest thing, Dave, is uh Mr. is that you saw your vision through. And a lot of superintendent wouldn't have a vision like that, you know, because let's face it, if you have a vision and you want to see it through, it requires a lot of hard work and a lot of additional work. And Dr. Dr. Lunderville, I want to thank you too because you took on a lot of that work too and you know and Steve did too when he was here and uh of course all the rest of you received that that work too. He said I mean that's a lot of financial stuff to have to deal with
064when we have a bond and override as you well know. So I'm very grateful to you and your team for all that you've done and everything. I mean, we see the results now. The community feels the results in a positive way. We we've really grown as a community and as a school. And I I hear great things about stuff going on here all the time now. >> And we can thank you for those facilities for having that vision. So, >> I mean, when you think about all that's been done, my god, that's a lot. Talk about humble. you know, you're like kind of like Alexis here. >> You're very humble about you haven't really tooted your horn about it all and you've gotten all these great accolades as well. >> Thank you from the bottom
065of my heart for all that you've done >> and I feel it's well merited. >> Thank you, Mr. Mr. >> Mr. Redo. Everything you said about Mr. Armas will stay between us. add another log to the fire. >> No, but uh you assembled a great team. You know, it uh what makes you look good is who you hired, your team. Uh like Mr. Ramita said, uh your vision of of how to separate us from Ngalas. You know, we are a different district and how you led the district throughout the years. So, uh, I appreciate it. And how you're going to lead the district, uh, these next three years. I appreciate that. And hopefully this will get you over the hump to become the longest serving superintendent in the state's history. >> States history. Yes. >>
066But, uh, thanks for all you do, Dave. Appreciate it. >> Yes, definitely. And everything that everybody said, Mr. Rou, you know that I'm so proud of you. I'm so happy to be, you know, working next to you and, you know, and again, your visions, you know, everything that you that you've seen for our small little community. Look at where it is right now. You know, look at now it's not before it used to be like, oh, well, the people down there, you know, they always uh they always were looking at Nogalas to see now it's the other way around. Now, no Gallas is looking at everything we're doing. Why? It's because of your vision, because of the people that you have working with you, and because we are at a place right now where oh
067my god, we're doing so well. Okay, our kids are doing well, you know, everything. We're very competitive with our teachers. We're very competitive, you know, with everything. We've got so much offered to our kids. And what is this is that's what it's all about. It's about our kids about what they can do, what we can do for them so that they can be productive individuals once they leave the high school. You know what I'm saying? And we because of your vision are giving those kids that opportunity, you know, to do that and so much more. So, I'm so proud of you. I'm so happy that you're here and I'm wish you would be here for longer, but you know what? Like, like he says, we'll take those three years now and then maybe we can
068convince you later on. We'll see. Anyway, but >> President >> Yes, absolutely. >> I just want to say too that Dr. Lunderbell doesn't have to look at a raccoon from an event, you know, staring at her anymore in this whole building that used to be here. >> Okay. I don't know about the raccoon. Okay. So, I need somebody needs to fill us in story. It I'm sure it is, you know, we have to get it, you know, all that. So, but anyway, but thank you, Mr. Man, for everything and for for even more that what you're you're still going to do because I know you have more things to do for us. You can't let the let the pedal, >> you know, like you can't let the foot off the gas there. >> As soon
069as I'm still holding you accountable as soon as we vote, >> I will say a few things. >> Okay. So, now where is it? >> Uh, there's a motion as >> there's a motion and a second. So, all those in favor say I. >> I. All those opposed, nay. Eyes have it. Motion passes. Thank you. >> Pro. >> Yeah. Thank you. >> Want to say thank you to all of the the board members uh for your continued support. And what has happened to our our district doesn't happen because of me. It happens because of everybody, the team that we have um and the the board. I think that the community is supportive because they see the cohesion of the board and they see how um invested we are in our entire community to be successful
070and I promise I will not take my foot off the pedal for the the remaining three years uh because I do have a lot that I still want to accomplish within those three years. U because that's one thing I would say in the 12 years I've already been superintendent is we continue to we're never satisfied with where we're at. Um, as good as we we are, we know we can continue to get better. And Mr. B was talking about it earlier that, you know, there's still things we need to do and there are still things we need to do in our district because we're not a a district yet and we need to get there, which means we're highly performing, but that doesn't mean we're at that next level. And and that's always the goal
071is to be the best that we we can be to be the best district, not only in our community, but in Arizona and in the country. want to be uh noticed for everything that we do. Uh but thank you again for your support. I appreciate it and I look forward to serving these three years and and finishing out my career here because that was always uh my goal was always to to be in this community and and I always joke I I may not sleep here but I live here. >> So I'm always here, always doing things. It's like this this past Saturday at at Nicholls, you know, the girls basketball team was there selling cookies and I they I got swindled into buying cookies and bought Rotary tickets for the 50 raffle and you
072know, doing those things and and so um it's just great to be part of our our community and um try to again make us the best that we can be. So, thank you. >> Thank you. Thank you. Good job. Good job. Okay, so now we are adjourned. Uh we adjourn. It is adjourned. Look at that. It's still early 6:17. Uh we are adjourned. Thank you.
