Calling this meeting to order. Today is a Tuesday, March 10th, 5:30 p.m. Can we please stand for the pledge of allegiance? [clears throat] And can our um students lead us >> to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. [clears throat] >> Roll call. Juano, President >> Present. >> Lorena Delgado, clerk, >> present. >> Christina Clark, member >> present. >> Louisa Areola, member >> present. >> Glad Annaya, >> we have a quorum. >> Thank you, Mary. Moving on to uh 2.1, comments from the audience. Uh do we have any comments from the audience? >> No, we do not. >> No comments from the audience. Um I [clears throat] will uh say this uh moving forward due
to student school teacher administrator department recognitions and meetings going into late evening hours uh we will be changing the allotted time to uh 3 minutes uh instead of five. >> Thank you. >> So moving on to uh 2.2 TDS showcasing um Kenya Lopez Ramirez future career art contest winner. just as um to give it a minute as Miss Ham's coming in. Uh tonight we have a very special night. We are trying to keep our uh reports a little short so that we get the opportunity to really recognize the amazing students that are here in front of us. Um and so we're happy to start with TDS um to celebrate uh one of their artistic students. So thank you so much for being here everyone. And Miss uh Felix Good. Good evening, board president, members of
the board, Mr. Don Miss, and everyone else in attendance. That's called fashionably late, right? I just walked in right in the nick of time. Um, it is with great pleasure that I'm here in front of you guys this afternoon to I would say re-recognize uh one of our sund dragons that traveled to Phoenix last month. I believe is she here? I don't see her, but I will go ahead and read. Says, uh, we would like to recognize our fifth grade student, Kenya Lopez. uh she was a winner of the fif of the fifth annual a 529 future career art contest and this is a contest that is put together with the Arizona state treasures office and also in partnership with the Arizona education savings plan. So, um there was a total of 17 winners, one
from every county, and um it's a pleasure to announce that Kenya [clears throat] was selected as the Yuma County recipient, and she also received a $529 award um for for her um prize as the winner, but most importantly, she was able to uh share a beautiful art that at TDS we have the pleasure of seeing her with her sketchbook, around any open time during recess time, during lunchtime. She shared with me that she knows she was serious with drawing uh at the age of seven. So, we're excited for what's to come for Kenya. Again, she celebrated with the other recipients up at the US at the state capital last month. So, on behalf of the Sund Dragons, we would like to share uh this recognition to Kenya Lopez. [applause] >> [applause] >> And fun a
fun fun fact but also respecting her privacy. She had an emergency medical emergency right after that event. So she was back at school. Uh but that could be it or she's right here. [laughter] Okay. So uh with that, if I can just wait for her, but I will I do have a commercial. Uh we have our annual parent teacher league uh spring festival next uh Wednesday that all of you guys are invited and that's not just hot cheetos and cheese. There's carnea tacos, there's hot dogs uh and everything. So um it is a western a western theme. So we are excited to announce that you can dust off your boots or sombrero uh next Wednesday, March 18 from 5 to 7. And we will also have our Summerton School District for Chlororic and Tiero for
Chloric doing a performance. So you guys are all cordially invited and I have flyers for you guys. But I [clears throat] will take the time to announce and recognize Kenya Lopez. [applause] Senor Antonio Maria. Okay, congratulations again. Get another. >> Okay, then would you guys like to take a picture today? Congratulations. Come on. >> Thank you, Miss Felix [clears throat] and Mary. Um, just for the record, Miss Anna just showed up. 5:35 No, I'm 33. >> Uh, moving on to 2.3. Um, SVS showcasing the robotics team. testing one, two, three. What a beautiful moment for us uh this evening. Uh we have some beautiful students right here in the front that we definitely want to recognize. But I'd like to begin by saying good evening board president, members of the board, superintendent Duron, superintendent assistant,
superintendent miss, uh, directors and audience. Uh, I would like to begin by saying that I am very proud to belong to a school district that implements programs that stimulate and help our students develop innovation, critical thinking, problem solving skills that will help them uh, compete in a very global world. So, I definitely want to thank that we're part of this district. At Sun Valley, we're part we're proud to contribute to that vision as well. Before recognizing our students, I would like to take a moment to recognize someone very special. She doesn't know that I'm recognizing her. Uh behind every successful student program is a dedicated educator who gives their time, energy, passion to inspire our students to dream more. Our robotics coach, Miss Beltasar, has worked tirelessly [applause] to guide our students in learning coding,
engineering, teamwork, and perseverance. Because of her dedication, our students have had the opportunity to explore STEM in a meaningful and exciting way and to compete. Now they have com they have uh participated in two competitions. The very first one was in Yuma County and out of 16 schools that were there participating uh Sun Valley Robotinos earned first place overall award. So [applause] and from there they got in their vans and they traveled to Phoenix where they competed against 63 schools. And in the 63 schools that they competed, some of them were middle school uh schools. Uh there's only four awards that they give out at this state competition. Out of the four awards, our robotinos won first place in core values out of 63 schools. So I think that is also huge at the same
time. So I would like to invite Miss Baltasar if she would come forward and I would like to uh present her with this certificate of recognition for her outstanding leadership and commitment to our robot programs. Thank you. [applause] And then I like Miss >> Thank you, Mr. Munyos. I have my cheat also. [laughter] I ask my students to memorize their lines, but for me, I have my cheat. I'm nervous right now. So, good evening everyone. Thank you, Mr. Monos, for the recognition. So, just like what Mr. Mo said, I'm Miss Baltazar and I'm the robotics coach of Sun Valley Elementary School. So this year marks the fourth year that SVS has proudly participated in the first Lego robotics competition. Our team is made up of five sixth graders, three fifth graders, and one fourth grader.
The theme for this year focuses on archaeology, exploring how uncovering the past can inspire future innovations. Robotinos had a chance to interview and received different advice from experts such as archaeologist um historian and different engineer um experts from engineering fields. So I think they're experts now they want to become an engineer in the future and last year just like what Mr. Mo said um this year we won um championship award but before that last year SBS robot also earned the champions award and won um one of the one of um awards from the from the state competition which is the breakthrough award out of 92 competing teams and last December 6 during the Yuma County competition with 16 schools participating I am proud to say that we won again the champions award so it's back-to-back
champion ship and first place with core values among 63 teams [applause] but we couldn't have done it without the support of so many people and you know who you are I'm not going to mention you all everyone and we thank you so our goal we are still aiming for the world robotics that's our goal again thank you so much and have a wonderful evening everyone thank you [applause] So we definitely want to thank our parents also who have been very supportive. Mr. Derto who has also been very supportive with our programs right here. And at this time I would like to ask our board members Mr. Duron Miss if they could uh please come forward so we could go ahead recognize our students. Uh we also have some medal awards that we like to ask
Mr. Duron if he could help us also to place them on our students. I'll be reading the certificate and then we'll be taking pictures at the same time. So, I believe a couple of our students were not able to make it. Um, so we'd like to go ahead and recognize I believe the students not here. Um, right is Ar Gonzalez. [applause] We would like to recognize Sophia Fraoso. [applause] >> Yes. >> I believe this student's not here. I didn't see him. Jose Kamacho, but we still would like to recognize Oh, here he is. He's coming in. So, I'll call him in a little bit. Yes. We would like to recognize Emily Serda. >> [applause] >> And some of these students are coming with the awards or the presentation or the robots that they designed uh
or they won right there. Uh we'd like to recognize Gel Rubio and I believe that's the robot design that they created, correct? Yes, that they designed. Uh Juliana Lopez [applause] We'd like to recognize Milan Castro. [applause] We'd like to recognize Jayen Prito. We'd like to recognize Kayla Beressa, [applause] our student council president. And we would like to recognize Jose Kamacho. [applause] So please join me in congratulating our robot who won first place in the core value awards at the state competition. And we know like to thank everybody for the support and board members. Thank you for also approving their trip to Laborland. That's the reward. Thank you very much. >> Oh yes. And then we do have a video, a very short one where we like to take pictures. >> The champions award goes to
team 5931. [music] >> Here we go. This is the time of our liv [music and singing] 2. [applause and cheering] This is the time of [music] [singing] this time [music] of our liv. [music] This is the time of our liv. [music] This is the time of [music] our lives. Yeah. Yeah. Here we go. This is the time. [applause] >> [applause] >> That was awesome. Congratulations. >> So, we're going to move on to uh 2.4 um districtwide showcasing perfect ASA scores. Good evening, board members, board president, and everyone in attendance. Um it is our pleasure to continue the celebration by acknowledging the hard work of um this group of students who have been doing an amazing job this year. But last year they were able to showcase uh what they're made out of and they actually
um received perfect scores in their state assessments last year. And although the schools are taking the time to recognize them together with their other you know students uh performing at a highly proficient and proficient levels, it was important for us to really come together and acknowledge uh their incredible uh you know um record of of getting a perfect score [clears throat] in either their ELA or math. um this is not only a grade for them. This is a huge accomplishment of being uh really in involved in the schools and understanding everything that you have to do. This also credits the work of the principles. I always say the principles, the teachers, I see teachers present here and I'm really excited to have you guys here as well and obviously the parents uh support is always
very very critical and important. So thank you so much. Um, >> [applause] >> I'm going to invite the board members if we can stand that way we can call our student uh to the front. We can sit in the front part and we'll call them to give them a little medal and their certificate. I got it. But can you help me with the medals? >> Yes. So, we're going to start we are going to start with BTS. We have Mateo Ernnandez Munoz. Perfect scores and math state assessment. So, Mateo. [applause] Okay. We're going to continue. We have Saden Vay. Perfect. Perfect uh scores for math ASA state assessment. Saden [applause] >> from Desert Sonora. We have Lisha Arondo. Uh perfect math scores. [applause] Up next we have Gavin Gavin Witrado Hunts perfect math score. [applause]
We have Jesus Alcala Bernal perfect a math state assessment score. [applause] >> We have Hel Valencia perfect math state assessment score. [applause] We have Alexander Savala, a perfect math score in state assessment. [applause] From ELC, we have Gel Velasco, a perfect math score in state assessment. [applause] >> We move on to SVS. Uh, Gail Rubio, perfect math score, state assessment. [applause and cheering] >> Also from SVS, we have Ekar Va Perfect Math Sport [applause] from Summerton Middle School. We have Julian Castillo, a perfect ELA state assessment score. [applause] Also from uh SMS we have Isaac Estrada Leva perfect maths score uh the state assessment [applause] from SMS we have Fiero ELA state assessment perfect court. [applause] >> Last but not least, we have Jose Ruiz Silva, math perfect scores from the state assessment. [applause] If
we can give them all a big round of applause, please. Good job, GUYS. [applause] Come to the middle so that we can take a group picture. Okay, there you go. It's all right. Thank you so much, guys. Congratulations again. Good job. [applause] >> [clears throat] >> congratulations to everyone. Um, if parents, if you uh um if you want to leave, um that that's okay. You won't hurt our feelings. Uh so you're more than welcome uh uh to leave if if you wish. Okay? Or you can stay and uh and uh listen to our meeting. [laughter] Yeah, >> it was awesome. It was really 14 perfect scores. >> Yes, of course. Yes. They were so quiet, those little babies. >> Yeah. >> You didn't even know they were here. And you're right. They see the big
eyes looking around. So cute. Hi, Mr. [laughter] >> Now there's a lot of empty chairs. You guys can come to the front. [laughter] You don't bite. The >> front row is empty. [clears throat] Yeah. Go ahead. So, we're going to go ahead and move on to uh 3.1 report from uh Mr. Duron. >> Hello everyone. I'm going to keep it really brief. Um there's a couple of field trips that I went ahead and approved. Uh the first one is the district flororic group will be participating in the mariachi conference in Tucson. This is going to happen in April 28th to May 1st. Also, we have another field trip that has been approved. uh BTS. Uh a couple of the classrooms are going to SeaWorld and this is going to happen uh May 12th. Uh on
another note, a couple of reminders. Our coffee with the superintendent is next uh next Thursday, March 19th, and TDS will be hosting. Uh and then Friday, we do have our summer thriving achievers March 20th. Um it will be hosted by Mr. O'Neal and the adulted program at SMS. So I hope to see you there. We're running out of achievers, guys. We're running out of achievers. Um the we also are we're all in the middle of the ReadAcross America celebration and so I hope that you get the opportunity to go and read to our little ones. I know I've been invited already to several of the schools. So, I'm excited for that. And then once again, I just want to um put it in your calendars. The board retreat uh that we're planning for the summer
will be Saturday, June 6, uh starting at 9:00 a.m. here at the district board office. And that's it for me. >> Thank you, Mr. Anybody have a question or comment? >> No. Moving on to a 3.2 [clears throat] report from Miss. >> All right. Good evening, everyone. Um, I wanted to just share we are working on open enrollment and new enrollment campaign for the spring. And so we've been working with our little marketing team at the district office to get things rolling so that SPS and our East San Louise families know which schools they're coming to um how we're going to be offering transportation, all of those things to meet their needs. So that's going to be coming up. You'll see a lot of postings starting to come out. So we have a little schedule
of things that we're going to be doing. Also, I wanted to say for any parents listening, kinder o enrollment is open. So, we would love to have all those kindergarteners register [clears throat] early. Um, that way we can plan accordingly. Um, I also wanted to share this last Saturday, we had some great events going on at the middle school. So, I want to give a shout out to Parks and Wreck um for working with us and working with all the facilities management kinds of things that we have to do. Um, our wrestling uh event went really well. And then also our health and safety program that Lydia and Carla Nabino work on went off without a hitch. And so we had some really great um I mean it was packed, you know, the whole place
was packed. So I wanted to just share first place schools for our soccer tournament was BTS Elementary came in first. So congrats. Um ELC came in second. Good job. Good job. [applause] And then we had Orange Grove coming in third place. [applause] So, it was really exciting. The kids had a ton of fun. So, thank you team for all the hard work that you do to make that happen because they they did a lot of hard work for that. Um, and I think the last quick announcement, we did our uh reunification, our first practice ever with um Gravy Totto Elementary School and we reunified approximately 140 students in about 45 minutes. And so it was very smooth. Um, our communications started months earlier with the parents. Um, the staff was well trained. We did roleplay
with all of the staff at the district and all the different departments that are going to help. And we learned some things too, what we'll do better for the next time. Some little refining things. And then now we'll see how how we're going to attack that with larger schools and where they might go in different locations as well. So, I just want to give out a a big appreciation also to the city for their support for the SPD, fire, James Jones working with us to make sure that we had all of our our pieces in place. So, and then our administration and all of the staff and the students and the parents for their support and and trust. So, um we want to be prepared if something ever happens. Hopefully, it never does, but we
we'll know what to do and and how to maneuver. So, I just want to say thank you for the support and it went great. >> Thank you. Anybody have a question or comment? >> No. Thank you, Miss. >> We're going to move on to um 4.1 board member reports and board attendance. Miss Aola. >> Well, we had that ribbon cutting. So that was a really neat experience just to see the community come together and for the and thank you to our our sponsor Miss Neves Ryel for that wonderful huge stage. It was really nice. And also, Miss Balttosar, I wanted to say thank you for taking the kids to the robotics tournament because I was a former robotics coach. And it's it's hard. It's hard, isn't there's a lot of competition and for them to
see see their faces that they were so excited. Thank you for bringing that with you and with them because that's what it takes. It takes that teacher to ignite that spark in each of those students and you did that and that's what they want because part of the competition is showing that that teamwork. Even the hats that they're wearing, that's also part of the competition. So, thank you. Thank you for what you're doing. >> Thank you, Missa. Miss Ana, >> congratulations also to the robotics team. Sorry, my cough is driving me nuts. Um, I just wanted to do a quick shout out to the TDS robotics team that got to meet with um our Senator Mark Kelly last week. The pictures that I saw were amazing. It was neat to see. Um, the principal there
and some other people there just watching and, you know, regardless of your political affiliation, that's a really cool visit to have. Um, so I know the kids are going to remember that and I did hear that they had good conversations with him, so that was really neat for them. >> [clears throat] >> to experience that. Um, I'm excited to announce that I will be reading on Friday to some ELC students. I was assigned to sixth grade and I haven't worked with sixth graders in a while, so I'm excited trying to figure out my my book choice, how much time I have, do they have any cues for student engagement. I'm freaking out about it, but I'm excited to go back into those classrooms and read. Um, that's all I have. >> Thank you, Miss Annayia.
Miss Car. >> Um I just I'm impressed with the attendance that we had today. I'm so happy to see the room busting at the seams for all these recognitions for academics um you know enrichment um when we have our sports, you know, recognitions. It just um I went to the middle school this weekend on Saturday and it was busting at the seams. There was hardly anywhere to park. um everybody that puts all these events together and seeing, you know, the community come together like that really is something worth celebrating and is very special. So, thank you everybody. Um and uh I did enjoy the soccer. It was a cold, windy day. I showed up late, but the people that were there since, you know, early on, the vendors, like everything was well organized. So, thank
you all for for all the efforts that you put in and the parents and the students, of course. Thank you, Miss Clark. Miss Gladio, >> I just want to congratulate again those students that were recognized today and those that were not in attendance, but also, you know, the students that made um some movement in their in their academic achievements as well. Maybe not, you know, highly professional profession, but they moved up and and I congratulate them as well. The hard work for all the teachers that they have done to get the students to this point. Thank you. Thank you for all that you do. Uh, just a little reminder, we have our Greater Days parade next week and so I'm I'm eager to see the transportation department, but I'm eager to see all the schools
participate. Thank you so much. That's all I have. >> Thank you, Miss Leo. [clears throat] And and really, I mean, congratulations to Kenya, the robotics team, and and all those students who who got that perfect score in ASA. I mean, uh, it's like Mr. Ron said I mean it's it's the teachers, the parents, the students. It's it's you know it's all it's a big effort. Um just want to I I did attend the ribbon cutting um for Sun Valley. Um stage is beautiful. You know do want to thank uh you know uh Mayor Ryell construction and and and associates uh who helped make that happen. Um she also mentioned she uh promised lights so that that's exciting too. So, uh, you know, on behalf of our board, I mean, I want to, we're very thankful
for for her, uh, generosity. Um, for, uh, Read Across America this Friday, I did get that invite for ELC. I will be out of town, so I will not be able to make it, um, this Friday. So, um, may maybe next year. Um, aside from that, I mean, that's uh, that's all I have. So, we're going to go ahead and move on to uh consent agenda. Does any member have a question, comment, or wish to pull something out from consent agenda? >> No. Need a motion? >> So, move. >> Motion was made by Miss Clark. >> Second by uh Miss Haya. All those in favor say I. >> I. Anyone opposed? >> Motion carries. Moving on to a 6.1 discussion and possible action to approve work calendars for FY26-27. The recommendation is to approve the
work calendars for all positions uh for the year 2026 2027. Um and you will see the work working calendars attached. >> Mr. Don, are these the same calendars as um last year? Were there some modifications? >> Yeah, we did try to mirror, you know, as much as we could. Uh we did try to standardize some um uh calendars with similar positions. Um the district used to have, I think, 18 or 14 working calendars. We were able to reduce it to 14. uh we made sure, you know, to make improvements on, you know, the areas that were kind of uh uh similar or oppositions that were similar, but for the most part, we did try to mimic, you know, what's been working in the past for for the based around the the school calendar. >> Okay.
So, from 18, we went to 14. >> Yes. >> Any other questions or comments? Need a motion. So move >> motion was made by Miss Clark. >> Second by Miss Delgado. All those in favor say I. I. >> Anyone opposed? Motion carries. Moving on to a 6.2 discussion and possible action to approve the ESS preschool program school calendar FY26-27. Um, this is the recommendation to approve the ESS preschool program school calendar FY2627 as stated and you will find the preschool calendar as part of uh the attachment. Any uh questions or comments? Need a motion. So >> motion was made by Missio. >> Second by Miss Clark. All those in favor say I. >> I. Anyone opposed? Motion carries. Moving on to 6.3. The recommendation is to approve the following employees through ESI for the Summerton School uh fiscal year 2627 as stated and you will find uh the list um as part of the agenda. >> Any questions or comments? Need a motion? So move >> motion was made by Miss Clark. >> Second by Miss Areola. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Anyone opposed? Motion carries. Moving on to 6.4 discussion and possible action to approve the open enrollment capacity FY25-26. >> This is a yearly recommendation uh based on our policy. Um and based on policy the recommendation
is to wave the 1% of teachers FY2526 contract. >> Any questions or comments? Need a motion. >> Make a motion to wave the 1% fee. >> Motion was made by uh Miss Annaya. >> Second by Miss Clark. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Anyone opposed? Motion carries. Moving on [clears throat] to uh 6.7. Discussion, consideration, and possible action to approve or deny the release of teacher from his contract FY25-26 effective 213 26. Again, there is a a letter under executive content >> and the recommendation is to approve the release of teacher from contract FY2526 resignation effective uh February 13, 2026. Questions or comments? >> No. Need a motion? >> Motion to approve the release of the teacher farm contract FY2526 as stated. >> Motion was made by Miss Clark. >> Second by

And that's what uh the executive team and I were discussing, we know that the state is going to be
giving us that 2% for for our teachers. But in the event that there's additional monies, we can definitely come back and do attendance. We just want to approve them now so that we are able to release those um contracts to our employees. Okay. >> Questions or comments? Need a motion. >> Motion was made by Miss Delgado. >> Second by Miss Clark. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Anyone opposed? Motion carries. Moving on to a 7.1. Um, are there any recommendations from the board for any future agenda items? No. And, uh, 7.2, teacher of the year banquet will be on Thursday, April 30th, 2026.
