001Hello Tucson Unified community. This is your  proud superintendent, Gabriel Trujillo, coming   to you from our first Governing Board meeting  in February. And I'd like to kick things off by   welcoming in the month of February by reminding  everybody the importance of taking time out to   reflect on Black History Month, a month-long  celebration of African-American student   excellence, not just here in the Tucson Unified  School District or in Tucson or in our state, but   across our nation. 30 days of deep reflection on  the contributions of a African-American leaders,   scientists, scholars, athletes, politicians, and  humanitarians that have shaped American history.   And tonight, we kicked off our meeting with an  absolutely momentous vote by our Governing Board,   voting unanimously to rename Cherry Field in  honor of the late great Coach Oscar Romero,   one of the most legendary baseball coaches in

002the  state of Arizona, as well as in Tucson Unified   School District history. Did you know he won two  state championships during his tenure as Tucson   High's baseball coach from 1989 to 2018? Along the  way, accruing 488 victories. Tonight's vote by the   Governing Board was a testament to his legacy and  the legend that his coaching had brought to Tucson   High's Badger Nation. We also took some time out  to read some proclamations in honor of Career and   Technical Education Month here in the district.  Let us not forget that the Tucson Unified School   District is home to one of the largest portfolio  of CTE programs in the state of Arizona with just   shy of 7,000 students taking career and technical  education courses ranging from automotive diesel   repair, dental assistant program out at Santa  Rita to culinary arts out

003at Catalina and also   out at Santa Rita to robotics to drones. We have  it all and our students love our CTE programs. It   is also National School Counselor Week here in the  Tucson Unified School District. An opportunity for   us to celebrate the dedication and the commitment  of all of our counselors and everything that they   do for our students each and every day. That's  all we have for you tonight. If you missed any   part of the meeting, catch the replay on the  Governing Board website or keep up with all   things TUSD on all of our socials, Facebook,  Instagram, and X. We'll see you next time.
