001Well, hello Tucson Unified community. Can  you believe January is already over? I'm   your superintendent, Dr. Gabriel Trillo,  here with the very latest coming out of   our final Governing Board meeting for the month  of January. Great stuff tonight. I want to start   off by congratulating Sabino senior Savannah Ramos  Smart. She recently was recognized by the Arizona   Department of Education as a recipient of the  state's Arts Seal of Excellence for her excellence   in fashion design and visual arts. We were very  very impressed with this young lady and her in her   artistic excellence. This evening we also had an  opportunity to welcome our TKAP that's the Tucson   Korea Academic exchange program with delegates all  the way from South Korea. They are here for the   next couple of weeks with a delegation of South  Korean students as part of

002this historic academic   exchange program that's been in the district now  for almost two decades. And the Korean students   while they're here, they will be sharing homes.  They'll be staying with host families with their   fellow students from Tucson Unified School  District schools. They'll be sharing cultural   adventures, cuisine, food, and friendship. And  we look forward to this summer when we can send   our Tucson Unified School District students to  South Korea to complete the exchange. We also   heard tonight from our bond manager, Dr. Charlotte  Carter. We've got a list of about 15 more schools   that will take another bold step for safety  and security and adding window security film   to make sure that our campuses are safe  for all of our students. And then lastly,   we welcomed the auditor general to the school  board meeting tonight to talk

003about the realistic   challenges that the district faces financially.  The district, of course, is operating at a higher   financial risk than usual, but that doesn't mean  that staff shortages and layoffs are imminent.   It's more of a forecast and a roadmap to help  us meet some of the challenges today so that   they don't become crises in the future. So, I want  to thank the auditor general for joining us this   evening and talking about proactive ways that we  can rightsize the district's budget and get right   back to fiscal excellence. That's all I have for  you. We're going to see you again in February.   If you missed tonight's meeting, go ahead and  catch the replay on the Governing Board website   or catch up with All Things TUSD on Instagram,  Facebook, and X. We'll see you next time.
