All right, welcome everyone. I'm here with President Chapman to do a board agenda review. All right. President Chapman, let's take it away. What's our first item of the night? >> Yeah, uh so we're actually uh our summer schedule we sometimes meet a little bit earlier. So this coming Tuesday we're actually going to meet at 3:00 for a work study session. Uh we're going to be going over financial projections. We'll be kind of talking about like where our budget is now, where it's been, um and uh where it's headed based on our current uh budgeting, the way we've been investing things. Um you know, current and past and future bonds and overrides and what that will look like. Do you want to chat a little bit about uh you even putting that together for us? >>
Yes, yes. It uh will have a model to be able to work through and look at different possibilities, so we can see what happens if elections pass, elections fail, good things happen, bad things happen. So it'll be a lively discussion of possibilities. >> Yeah, and again I you know, we're in a great financial situation still. Um eight years, I know we're still waiting to hear back from the organizations for this year, but eight years in a row of financial accolades from two different national uh organizations. So uh definitely a testament to you and the financial team or our business services team's work over the last uh nine years. So yeah, we'll talk a little bit about our budget and stuff. >> Thanks. And then we'll move uh into the regular meeting then uh at 5:00.
And we got some good celebrations this this meeting. >> Yeah, uh we'll be celebrating our district office uh administrator of the year, district office employee and administrator of the year. Uh we do our principal of the year. Um and then we're also a student is getting a really sizable scholarship from a uh Arizona nonprofit. So I definitely want to tune in or come visit that one. Uh congratulations to that student and thank you to Stand for Children for recognizing um one of our students. >> Yes, always fun to celebrate. Once we get past the consent agenda, then we'll move into our action items. And the first action item is the bond election. >> Uh yeah, so we have a question to the board to potentially put a question out to our community for a bond.
Um just as a summary, our bonds are used for like building new buildings, refurbishing buildings, uh buying buses, uh you know, school safety when we're talking about, you know, security infrastructure, fencing, cameras, um all that. Uh do you want to kind of talk about like uh what the some of the bond idea projects that we're going to be talking about at the board meeting are this year? >> Yes, we're going to go through all of the different items that have been requested. So, it'll be things like a new building for University High, uh a full-size competitive gym for the Tolleson and Westview campus, auxiliary gyms for the other campuses, uh taking care of um CEA and Lighthouse and moving them into new facilities. So, it's all of the different capital discussions that we've had these
past few years. >> Yeah, so yeah, we'll have a whole presentation for the uh for the board to review and discuss. Um again, there's a ton of stuff um projects out there. Um we've been fortunate over the last 8 years our community has supported us. We've been able to invest significantly in students and staff across our facilities, transportation. Um so, we'll just have another robust conversation about some our facilities needs and our and our safety and security needs for students and staff moving forward. And then we'll uh if that passes, it'll go to the voters in November. >> And then after that, we'll have the M&O budget override, which we are in phase down next year. So, we're going from a 15% override to a 10% override. Do you want to talk about calling for
that item? >> Yeah, uh so this one we do um every couple of years for uh renewal. Um our M&O supports our salaries, programs, uh things like that. So, part of the way we've been able to invest in high-quality teachers, high-quality support staff, and administrators across the district um is maintaining our uh M&O override. Uh so, we'll be asking the community to uh continue supporting us in that way so that we can make sure that all of our students have a qualified teacher in the room, um a friendly certified bus driver on the bus, um and all those other things that uh our M&O dollars go to support our staff. >> And the final action item is a first reading for a policy change to medical leave assistance program. >> Yeah, let's hear cover that
one a little bit. I know we've been going back and forth on uh some medical leave programs here and there. >> Yeah, so So uh this one is our sick leave bank and um HR, our teachers, the committee they felt that there were some things that were confusing in how we initially launched this sick leave bank uh a year or two ago and so based on feedback from everyone they've come forward with new language and uh they'll be there to walk through kind of the logic of the new language. >> Yeah, that's good. Yeah, uh we offer a ton of amazing benefits for uh current and future uh employees. If you're looking to work in a great district, Los Nietos High School District, obviously this medical leave assistance program, our regular paid time off. Uh
we also have 3 weeks of paid family leave for uh mother and father. Uh so yeah, we'll uh do a first read of that one and then it'll be on the next agenda for uh final passage for our employees to take advantage of. And then I believe that's that's it for the uh May meetings. >> Yes. That'll be a wrap. >> All right, we'll see you on Tuesday. Thank you.
