And that's it for this. All right. Can I have a motion and a second to approve
004the minutes from the following meetings? We have the April 17th action meeting and the May 1st, 2025 public hearing. Can I have a motion and a second? Motion. Second. All those in favor? I oppose or abstain? I abstain from the 17th. Abstain from the first. Abstain from the first. Abstain from the first. Oh, that's right. You all skipped out on my public hearing. And Rebecca, right? Yeah. And you had my 17. Yeah. And we'll have Sarah from She wasn't here for All right. Perfect. Uh, presentations, Mr. Lee. All right. Good evening, everyone. Thanks for coming out on this beautiful night we have here tonight like so many we've had. Um it is the best part of the board meeting for sure where we get to recognize our students of the month from both JFK and
005DDE. And these students are being recognized tonight because they are outstanding students and just kids in general. Um and um if you're here with them tonight, it's it's partly because of how you raised them. So thank you for doing such a great job. Um, all right students. What I'm going to do is I'm going to call I'm going to do JFK first. So, I'm going to call you up. When I call you up, you have to stay up here with me. It's real awkward, but you have to stand up here with me the whole time, and then we'll get a picture together. Okay? All right. So, we will start with our students from JFK. First, we will start in preK. Our preK student of the month is Tyrone Williams. looking sharp. Congratulations. There you go.
006Thank you. You're welcome. Ty, stay right here. Tyrone, you got to hang out with me. All right. Uh Tyrone is a hard worker and determined to do his best. He is compassionate and kind. He always helps others and cares so much uh for others. He follows classroom rules and expectations and always tries his best. Congratulations, Tyrone. Uh, our kindergarten student of the month is Addison Townsen. Congratulations, man. Either one, doesn't matter. Here you go. Addison is always asking others how they are doing and trying to find ways to brighten their day. She she shows compassion to everyone she encounters. She leads by example in the classroom with her attitude and effort. Congratulations, Addison. Our first grade student is Maya Lester. Maya is doing so well with following directions, trying new things, making new friends, and
007smiling at everyone she meets. She is a happy, kind, and wonderful student. So, congratulations to Maya. Our second grade student of the month is Natalie Chi Papoka. Second grade team is proud to recognize Natalie as their student of the month for demonstrating outstanding responsibility, being helpful to others, and showing respect in all interactions. She consistently sets a positive example for her classmates, takes initiative, and treats everyone with kindness and consideration. Keep up the great work. Our third grade student of the month is Gianna Kala. Giana is constantly challenging herself, is inclusive of everyone, and shows leadership in an academic and social setting. And last but not least for JFK, our fourth grade student of the month is Jeremy Jose Rodriguez. There you go. Jeremy has become very conscientious about his success and realizes he holds
008the power. He has advocated for himself, has been trying harder to meet all of his teachers expectations and has done better all around this school year. Congratulations, Joe. You guys ready for a picture? Come with me. Stand right here in front of me. Here's right here. Come in close. Come in close. Like you like us. Turn your Oh yeah. Turn your certificate. So it flip it. Flip it. Everybody don't cover your face, guys. I got to see your whole face. They are. Can I have a smile? Oh, look at you guys. You're not teenagers. Congratulations. All right, on to our middle school students. Our fifth grade student of the month at DDE is Daisy Telleshia. [Applause] The fifth grade team has selected Daisy as their May student of the month. Daisy has made an exceptional
009transition into a larger math class, demonstrating both independence and leadership. Since she had already mastered the current unit on fractions, she has taken initiative to work on various review topics on her own. She consistently puts forth her full effort on every assignment and does so with a positive attitude, never expressing frustration about working independently. What stands out most is her willingness to support others. She regularly helps classmates who are just beginning to learn fra fractions and offers guidance to those who have been absent. Her dedication, maturity, and kindness make her a truly deserving recipient of the award. So, congratulations to Daisy. Our sixth grade student of the month is Evelyn Smith. The sixth grade team has selected Evelyn Smith for student of the month. Evelyn is a kind and respectful student with a positive attitude.
010Evelyn has a great work ethic and is always trying to do her best. She is focused and attentive and works well with her peers. Evelyn exhibits a positive mindset in and out of the classroom. Congratulations to Evelyn. Our seventh grade student of the month is Madison Truly. Congratulations. Here we go. The seventh grade team proudly picked Madison. Madison is a quiet and respectful student by nature who works hard and helps other students to do better. We have seen her grow into a class leader throughout the year. For example, in social studies, she is willing to stick up for an unpopular opinion and persuade others through calm logic and reason. Madison always seems to be doing the right thing and improving the educational environment in each class that she's in. Congratulations. And last but not least,
011our eighth grade student of the month is Jaden Oavdo. The eighth grade team selected Jaden. Jaden is a kind and considerate young man. He exemplifies the DDE school motto and is respectful, responsible, and a leader among his peers. Jaden is respected by his classmates and able to work in any cooperative group environment. He is always willing to listen and provide support to his peers when needed. He also is an active member of National Junior Honor Society. Jaden volunteered many hours with the honor society and has worked on many committee events. He is a role model for the DDE community and his peers. Congratulations, sir. Thank you guys. Thank you so much to everyone for coming out. We really appreciate Thank you for sharing your kids with us every day. We we love them. They're are
012awesome kids. So, um, we really appreciate it. Thank you. You can stay for the rest of the meeting. You don't have to stay for the rest of the meeting. So, you guys can go now. Have a great night. Have a good holiday weekend. [Music] You want me to get a picture with you? If you don't mind, I'm holding up the meeting. Somebody's calling. [Music] Sorry. Don't worry about it. You're fine. You guys are adorable. These moments go by fast. Thank you so much. See you, buddy. little ones. Oh my god, that's hilarious. Don't know anything about it. So, we're going to move continue to move through. We don't need to talk about the district goals um or the board goals. Uh we're going to open the meeting to the public for the discussion of agenda
013items only. Can I have a motion in a second? Motion. Second. 7:15. No one. And seeing no one in the public, um, may I have a motion and a second then to close the public portion of the meeting? Motion. Second. All those in favor? Opposed or abstaining? All right, Mr. Lee, you're up. All right. Okay. So, under um A and B under my section there, we have the safety and security reports for JFK and DE. both our fire and safety drills. Bus evacuation drills are listed there as well, although I think they were incorrect. Right. So, we need just the bus evacuation drill 5205. We saw that late. So, because we don't have to do that monthly, so we just put that one on. So, it'll be on next month's agenda. Correct. Um item C
014is all the administrator reports for your review in the portal. Item D, we had one reported Hib this month at JFK and it was confirmed. Uh, under section E, E1, um, both items are to affirm last month's Hibs that the the board received. Uh, under section F, item number one is three guest speakers coming in to speak with our students. Item number two is a a long list of some more advanced approved uh, parent volunteers. Item number three is our annual contract for uh the SRO. That's our contract with the Berlin Township Police Department. Item number four is for the board's approval of the comprehensive equity plan. Um that is a plan that we need to turn in every year. We actually just had to create a new one because it's on a three-year cycle.
015Um and so um we have a whole committee together that put that plan together. That's also in the portal for your review. Item number five is um for the uh the board to approve on my recommendation bringing in an NJCAP um while applying for the grant for NJCAP. Uh NJCAP is child abuse prevention and they're a group that comes in um and speaks with all kids at all different uh grade levels um and talks to them about um what abuse looks like um who should be touching them, who shouldn't be touching them. Um they they come in next year and they'll do a parent presentation. They do a staff presentation. It's a NJCAP has been around for a really long time. We haven't had it here in district. They told me since like 1996 or
016something. So um it should be no problem for us to get that that that grant to have them come in. Item number six is disposal of inventory. Uh all right. Section section G there. Uh number one, we have um some two uh one homebound instructor position, a summer painter cleaner position, and then a new uh teacher hire that we just wrapped up this morning, and that is for our open preschool uh teaching position for next school year. Uh under number two, we have some staff renewals that just kind of carried over into uh this month's agenda. Item number three, we have uh a Rowan student. It'll be a student teacher going into JFK with Mr. Martino next year. Item number four is to approve uh Mrs. Bright to be the affirmative action officer. She had
017some extensive training and so she will fill that role officially for us. Um she already is filling that role for us, but she'll do it officially after board approval. Uh item number five uh is for the affirmative action team that she assembled. And you see the teachers names there. they need to conduct a needs assessment um and in order to approve the comprehensive equity plan. So that is to get that approved. Uh item number six, we have a resignation. Item number seven is to approve the contract for Megan Stoddard, school business administrator. Item number eight is for our ESY staff approval. That's extended school year um here in the district over the summer. Uh item number nine is to approve the CST staff also for summer work. Uh under letter H number six that is
018the focus grant. Um New Jersey recently put out this grant funding opportunity um that we are applying for. Uh and essentially it helps it they will pay for an early childhood screener for reading. Um, and so the the state will cover the cost if we get accepted into that grant. And that's it. Okay. I have a motion, a second to approve superintendent items XA through XH. Motion second. Any questions on any of those items? All right. Um, Mr. Golden, yes. Mrs. Allen, yes. Mr. Phillips, yes. Mrs. Reed, yes. Mrs. Helma, yes. Miss Juliano, yes. Got to add Mrs. Row in here. Mrs. R. Yes. And Mr. Davis. Yes. Okay. Um, moving on to business and finance. And I have a motion, a second to approve the business and finance items Xia to XIL. Motion. Second.
019All right. Item um A through D is just the financial report for the month of April 2025. The treasur's report and the secretary's um report do match. There are uh no line items have been overextended for the month of April. Sufficient funds are available to meet the district's financial obligations for the remainder of the year. There are no changes in our anticipated revenue amounts or sources. Um E is just to approve of the bills which we had finance committee do um this evening and we got all of them approved. F is to approve the source for teachers listing for April 2025 with the associated um rates listed there. G is to approve the cafeteria dispersements for the month of April 2025 in the amount of $2,96.15. H is to approve the care dispersements for the
020month of April 2025 in the amount of $11,32.72. I is to approve travel and professional development for a couple of our staff members. J is to approve some uh budget transfers. As everyone is aware, we've had an increase in related services. So, we've had to get a little creative um moving money around from accounts that that still have funds available to fulfill those obligations. Um as I told the finance committee, we will still end our year not in a deficit. We'll be fine, but this is really going to take up a bulk of our um anything that we'd have to roll over. Um, and then the other one is just to move forward for uh some sub services. Again, we had to staff some of our aids with source for teachers subs because we were
021unable to hire them. So, we're just kind of eventually going to move some more money from salaries into that line as well for the remainder of the year. K is to approve the general services contract with Camden County Ed Services Commission. Again, this is for any type of services that we need to use during the school year. Sometimes CST services, things like that. We don't always use them, but we approved the general services contract. L is to approve an addendum to the agreement between Burland Township School District and ESS. That's source for teachers. And this is actually just to approve an hourly rate for our for an ESY aid. Um so we needed to fill another aid position for ESY. And in order to do so, we just took the same rate that we're paying
022our in-house um ESY and then they created a position through that for E through ESS. So um it's the same amount. It's the same hourly rate. That was it. Um, any questions? Um, Mr. Golden? Yes. Mrs. Allen? Yes. Mr. Phillips? Yes. Mrs. Reed? Yes. Mrs. Helma? Yes. Miss Juliano? Yes. Mr. Row? Yes. And Mr. Davis? Yes. All right. Great. Uh, old business. I don't think we have any old business. Um, we don't have any negotiations updates. Nothing. Um, finance committee. We did meet. They went through the bills, um went through the budget report and the revenue report, which are all um the revenue report. We're receiving all of our revenues that we're supposed to. Nothing new for out of district at the time. Um at this point, I'm just making sure all outstanding purchase orders
023are paid by June 30th, 2025. We're not really making a ton of purchases this time of year. If they haven't bought it, they don't really need it. So, um I need it for related services. They can't have any more money. Um just preparing for additional transfers that might come up for those related services. Um and hoping some staffing and uh program changes will alleviate some of that financial impact next year. Again, working on closing out the grants and trying to spend any remaining funds. They have to be closed out by September 30th, 2025. Um just informed the finance committee that I'll speak with our eighth grade math classes again on Monday, June 2nd to wrap up their financial literacy curriculum. Um I got to do it last year and I loved it. So, I'm excited
024that they invited me back again this year. Um quite a few field trips are planned in the coming weeks. So, transportation department is um very busy, sometimes going out three, four times a week during the day. And then we'll have a pay payroll verification that has to take place every three years. That'll take place on uh May 30th for the staff. So, that was it for finance committee um uh school boards association. So, anyone that is um we have three board members, three vacancies uh that will be expiring December 31st. So, I do have packets if those three members are interested in running again. Um anyone in the public that's interested, Jod in the front office will have those packets for anyone. They are due to the county office um county clerk's office by July
02528th, 2025. Um, I don't think there was anything else for school boards. Uh, ed services. Uh, Michelle's going to be out probably for the May June meeting due to um her husband being in an accident. So, they need an alternate board member. June is their like their reorg meeting. So, they have a big meeting in June. They're looking for someone. She'll probably be back by July going to those meetings. We just need someone to attend the ED services um June meeting. So, I need an alternate member. That's over near What's that near? Overbrook junior high. What's that road? White Horse. White Horse Road. White Horse Road. Yeah. So, does anyone want to be an alternate? Uh, Wednesday. Is it Wednesday, I think. Hold on. Used to be Wednesday. Let me remember her name. Madden, you're
026good. Yeah, it's not far. June uh have an alternate or their meeting is going to be on June 4th. I was going to say I'll do it, but I can't do that. Sorry. That's my birthday. Sorry. That's her birthday and I'll be out with her. Is it's at night? Yeah. It's only like 10 minutes. So, yeah, they're not real long. Oh, it's real work. That could be real longer. An hour maybe. They move pretty fast over there. They're pretty efficient. Um, I might It'll just give me one second before the kit. And like I said, you'll just be an alternate. We probably won't even need you that much. This is just a big meeting that they needs a body there. They want a representative from um all the districts. And then after that, it's, you
027know, it's fine if she misses July or whatever and you and no one, the alternate can't go. It's just a big deal for their June. Okay. Can you do it? You think you can? If Sarah can't for some reason, call me. I'll be on station. Okay. All right. I'm going to make you the alternate. So, they'll probably send you an email with the information and things of that nature. Again, it's it's not terrible. Um, so I'm going to we'll make you um the alternate board member. I'll let them know your information. Okay. And um we'll go from there. Pineh Hill. Okay. It's short. Well, I had two meetings since our last meeting here. Um, we had our budget hearing on the 29th, but it was also our April meeting, which was basically just a basic
028meeting like always. Um, so I just have a few reminders. Graduation is June 18th. Um, starting at 5:30 promptly. Um, project graduation is the same night uh from 8 to 11:45 at 8:10 Billards and Bowling. They're going to be doing the graduates are going to be doing a clapout in Berlin, Clementine, and Pine Hill. They'll go to their schools that they went to and do a clap out on 6:17 from 9:30 to 11:00. Um, let's see. Then we had our May 13th meeting and they're going to be doing a dedication of the football field the end of August at their first night game. Um, because they're going to have their lights providing everything goes well. I don't think they're actually starting it until after graduation because they don't want to mess up the field and
029all that for pictures and um I know they have a date. I just didn't get the date. So, I'll give that to you hopefully next meeting. Um Clementine, they also announced they go through their burrow stuff, too. So, the Pinehill representative that does a lot of the Pinehill stuff um said they are dedicating also a basketball and pickle ball court in Clemington on tomorrow night if anyone's interested. Um, site council meeting is Wednesday, May 28th. It's virtual from 6:00 to 7:00. If you're interested, contact um, Mr. Kula and he'll send you the link so you can attend. Um, sports awards banquet. Well, I guess it's kind of like a banquet. It's from 7:00 to 9:30 on the 17th of June, and it includes all the sports for the whole year. So, from fall, winter, and
030spring. That's it. Um, Kim County School Boards Association. I haven't seen much um for that either. So, um, does anyone else have any new business? Right. So, at this point, we'll do a motion, a second to open the meeting to the public for discussion of non-aggenda items. Can I have a motion to second? Motion. Second. All those in favor? opposed or still seeing no one other than Kristen who is not a member of our public is a member of us. Um can I then have a motion a second to close the public portion of the meeting? Motion second. All those in favor I opposed or abstain. All right. We do have an executive session this evening. So um we I'll have Jacob go shut us down. We'll go in. Um, we won't have any action
031afterwards, but um, let me have Jacob come in and close us down so we can go into that. Everybody Thank you. [Applause] All right, you guys. You guys are good. So, we don't have any action from the executive session. So, at this point, we will adjourn the meeting. Can I have a motion in a second? Motion. Sorry. Not everyone at once. All those in favor I oppose or abstain. All right, everyone have a nice Memorial Day weekend. Do that again if we practice. Um, hold on. I sent like a separate one. Hold on. Cuz you said yes. I don't know any that one was empty. I [Music] I'll have an exact number.
