all right you are alive good evening everyone New Jersey open public meetings law was enacted to ensure the right of the public to advance notice of and attended meetings of public parties at which time any business affecting their interest is discussed and acted on so in accordance with the provisions of this act 0.62 the battle report of Education meeting to be posted in the board of office and at the Bound Brook High School and mail refracts the career news battle Brook southbound with Board of Education and any person who has requested individual notice and be the required fee thank you I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America our nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice can we take a walk off please yes sir Mr Bob here here Mrs

Musa here it's Bruce mama Mr zapko Mr Jim is here Mr board president you have acquiring president this evening thank you um so for president's comments tonight I just want to bring everybody back to kind of why we're here and what we're doing you know we've kind of cycled all the way through on District polls and board goals for this year which I think is great we're going to do some follow-up board with Gwen who helped us set those and then have them become a recurring team and kind of one of our meetings and behind all the work that we do to make sure that everything that we're working on is really in service of hitting those products um I want to say that all of the feedback that I've gotten about the first few

days of school now that we're into week two the first full week has been very very positive whether it's for members of the community or members of the teaching staff that I've had the opportunity to bump into everybody's really upbeat and positive um so I will also say thank you to Lisa for uh the pins welcome back correct 2022. um and Dr Freeman for the social media Campaign which uh I'm sure hopefully was very fun for you and it's fun for the people of the district um you know seeing the smiles I think helps reinforce why we're hearing what we're doing so I'm very happy to see that very proud to see that um again in terms of priorities uh we're continuing to make updates uh working on the new contract with the pbea uh

we have another meeting later this week and we're hoping that we have something to bring back to the full body uh by the end of this month to consider um and then just to keep everybody kind of surprised we're not fully into a new committee and meeting schedule but we are continuing to make progress there as well we have operations committee governance committee last week um and hopefully by the time we hit our October cycle we'll be on to a new schedule where all committee meetings are the Monday first Monday of the month and then we have a discussion meeting followed by an action meeting later in the month so still working towards those same objectives work in progress Mr gorsky has been really helpful I'm trying to sort all that stuff out in terms

of both membership and schedules and so I'm optimistic that by the time we meet in October we'll really have that and that's it for me for opening the works shall we move to committee reports so if I recall correctly education committee did not mean it doesn't happen so we're gonna just pick that up next cycle that brings us to governance Mr ball okay um okay so the notes were in that agreements Friday or weekend uh report but we spent a lot of time talking continuing to talk I should say about the restructure of our committees and our meeting schedule one thing that um I do want to I don't know if we have to put into a vote tonight or how we want to do that is decide officially if we're moving from Mondays to

Wednesdays I feel like I've talked to well we've talked collectively to most members and that seemed to be everyone seemed to be agreeable but we want to make sure that that's okay with everyone if you aren't aware it just seems to be a lot easier on it especially the administration because right now they kind of have to get everything ready by Thursday to get it out by Friday and it kind of an arduous task and then their Mondays are are kind of flooded with things as well so to have it in the middle of the week would be a lot easier on Dr Freeman I'm sure everyone can hear me really so um to get to give them a little bit of a breaking to give them a little bit of their weekend back is

the goal here to have it on Wednesday so I don't know how we want to approach that we want to do that now or wait till should I go through the entire report and then I would just ask you a question is that something we want to move during the report to move during a new business okay sounds good so think about that if you haven't already been thinking about Wednesdays I know that like I said we've talked to a few people already um another thing that we have talked about as a group was um I don't know the right word is disbanding the HR committee or changing what it looks like but then also creating the community relations committee which Lisa has a chair um what I have done is reached out to Gwen

to find um some verbiage on the uh the job description so to speak of that committee so far she has uh that their policy people have been out of the office they're back in the office tomorrow so she's going to send me tomorrow some examples of what our our work will look like and we can then tweak whatever we want to do with our own policy but she's just going to give us some ideas of what they look like in other districts so that should be coming hopefully tomorrow they were out of the um out of District or out of office the last few days the last few work days uh let's see what else we did just want to remind um committee chairs that now that we're going to be meeting on that Monday

and and I was guilty of this as well we need to get our agendas set and over to the appropriate administrators a little bit earlier so that they have time to put everything together and get it out to the members I would suggest just um and take it or leave it that you should probably reach out to your Members First submit to see if they have anything they'd like to add to the agenda and get it over I mean our leadership is Dr Freeman so I'm going to get it to him hopefully when you tell me if we meet on Monday how early would you like it yes that's happening Thursday at the latest okay that's easily doable just got to remember to do it got to put it in my phone as an alarm

so I don't forget but that all chair people should do that as well let me see if there's anything else important to other committees I have my notes Here I apologize oh and we continue to talk about the two board meetings um what they're going to look like and Mr Gorski actually suggested that we may reach a point where that first discussion meeting doesn't really need to occur at all and that we can really merge everything into one meeting per month we're obviously not there yet but that's a goal that we can shoot for and he has some ideas in the long term what that might look like so we discussed that I think rich and I both agree that where we're coming from we're not ready to go there yet but that's something we

want to work towards the last thing we discussed which is more of an operations thing so I might want to leave it to them as we did talk a little bit about building usage and fee structure but I think that should go to operations right so appropriate that's why I'm asking you yeah sure you want to go ahead all right so that's all I got for governance here you go I'm gonna wait hold on anybody sorry any questions about governance at the event that was kind of I apologize for going fast and generally speaking hopefully the fact that the committee reports were actually out circulated in advance of the meeting helped everybody kind of get comfortable and saw the deliberations that happened in committee before you're seeing items on the agenda again to just to

reinforce our strategic discussion that's something we'd want to see more of as well and something you've probably found reflected in Dr Friedman this weekend update where he's actually time update update verbiage um so group is the handoff there the building usage and fee building usage and fees so as we're revisiting policies are all over the place one of the things that we had noted was that there may be either some inconsistency or some gaps or the potential for refinement in our current building usage policy and that way we have a complete and deductive way to go through not only how priority will be given to a District programs and applications but other community or organizations within Town other non-profits and maybe not affiliated with the district around Brook and how that usage Stacks up and

then ultimately the general public and the fees that are associated with um so I think holistically the ask was the partnership between governance and operations to go back revisit that policy see if there are any updates that need to be made and then bring those back so that's something we'll be looking at likely in between meetings again the operations committee notes that were circulated relatively robust um so I'm not going to necessarily read through everything one of the highlights I will bring up is just PSEG direct Insight proposal I thought this was you know something that was a great idea it has immediate benefits with the district in terms of both transitioning us more towards a sustainable type of infrastructure but also provides a variety of different programs some immediate financial relief it seems like

the very definition of a win-win and it's on our agenda tonight uh so if anybody has any questions uh we're continuing to follow open it by we ending the administration um regarding the uh training for our officers with regard to their ability to interact in and around the district in terms of times of Crisis safety I has um three is one of our top priorities here so making sure that all of our systems are ready and available uh not only to The District employees but to the police department as well and that everybody's well trained and aware of uh where things are uh so that work is likely going to continue um Dr Freeman will be leading it uh in conjunction with the chief of police and if there are successive updates that are necessary

or additional recommendations that come back uh will likely be brought to support through the operations committee again um I think one of the the really interesting and nice wins that Dr Freeman was able to put together has to do with the war family connection so there was a parent who wrote a concern about busing for the after-school programs and while we didn't want to necessarily set precedent by offering or subsidizing what really is a private program with District resources they were able to find an opportunity to tap into someone who's capacity that we had in our own transportation agreement um so that's something that thankfully we'll be able to deliver to to the people that are utilizing that program solving for that need that was brought forward and doing it in a really cost effective

way for everybody so again just an information item for the board as we'll need to act and approve on that but I thought that was really well done on part of the administration um and the last update that's in there has to do with the AC FR audit um so as was noted by both Mr Patel and Mr Gorski there's work that needs to be done to make sure that we are prepared to go through that process so the Auditors now are reviewing our financials relative to the school year ended June 30th 2022. there's the direct and open Communications testing ongoing the feedback that we're getting so far is that some of the more recent changes that we're putting into place are going to position us to address the comments that have been uh kind

of on our order reports on an ongoing basis and again because of the way that these Cycles usually work it's not uncommon for findings to persist in some manner for multiple years as long as we're demonstrating that we understand what the requirement is and then we're showing progress towards um so I don't expect there to be absolutely no government or feedback when we get our updated audit uh comments later this year but I am pretty confident at this point with the update received by the operations commission that will be demonstrating I think that's it for operations I'm happy to answer any questions uh so I think again governance and operations are the only two committees to meet last week we're expecting all the Committees to meet on the new schedule the first is Monday in

October so again Monday night are the meetings committee Church please try and circulate in minutes uh no later than Thursday and that way hopefully we can get them out to the full board in time for them to read and understand them before our discussion meeting a second week in October 3rd so the Thursday is the 29th Thursday the 29th that's agendas any other questions on committees I'm sorry there's it so the Thursday would be to submit the agenda right and then report I think so I think it's the Thursday before the meeting for the agenda the meeting on Monday and the Thursday after for comes up okay so the two-thirds okay that we only have to remember one day gotta simplify for me any other questions or comments on the Committees all right uh then

we are on to item number four uh open to the public or agenda items [Applause] you have no comments online just so you know thank you sir foreign Paxton president of the ea uh what is 6.2 teacher associate and will this position be eligible for the EA um is going on will they be eligible for the eea tomorrow right now we're looking at a not affiliated position okay so we can have discussions about that okay thank you thank you Dr Freeman we are up to item 5.1 approval of our minutes from August 22nd resolved at the boundary Board of Education approves the minutes for regular and executive meetings on August 22nd 2022. have a motion motion thank you Mr foul a second any discussion or edits [Music] hearing none can we do a roll call

going to be doing different activities around the schools helping to um paint on the Pavements do murals at the school we're going to have visitors from Corporation and pharmaceutical Corporation helping us so what we'll do is we'll put in the uh thank you and I think in general that fits more or less with the community representative committee at least the early um remit that we've provided them which is to become a little bit more active to make sure that as a body where appropriate I'm glad that we were able to identify that synergy pretty quickly and you know it's something that we've helped us so it's great any other questions or comments on the sections nine glad to see lafayette's coming back to the pet therapy and last year that was a really big success

that's good to see as well any other comments or questions can we have a roll call please Mr Button yes yes Mr Dawson yes yes [Music] a second thank you Mr DeFazio I need discussion yes great we are up to item 11.1 resolve the department Board of Education approves the resolutions as outlined in financial resolutions there's a few this is of 11.2 through 11.24 I have a motion motion and sweep Mr foul a second thank you any discussion the PSEG G have won the work started as soon as the board passes the resolution I'll reach out to PSEG and refresh them with the executed contracts and determine the work schedule so answer your question we don't have it yet instructional schedule okay and I noticed on one of the notes mentioned that it's equivalent to

0244000. that knows nothing in my life high school chemistry it's been a while it's a temperature used to measure you're right so if I think this is about the broad visible spectrum and how the light diffuses what it looks like whether it's blue this was one of the questions that we actually asked in operations because we wanted to make sure that it wasn't going to be a type of way that was unsuitable for a learning environment it was going to otherwise put on physical stress on teacher students and everybody involved so four thousands that can write and know the Spectrum it's a good General usage like 61 like balls but it's more about the color so you see how those ones are like a white diffused light right that would be a higher that's probably

like 3500 to 4 000 there as opposed to something that's really Amber when it shows up which would be lower on the Spectrum or something like 7 or 8K which I didn't expect that kind of answer I'll be honest that was really impressive [Laughter] we'll see Mr President that um installed in other school districts and they've never had a single complaint about being able to writer or not they said sometimes when you do change an old fluorescent bulb to this it's much brighter but that's probably because of the degradation of the old light but it should be the same thank you I'm sorry a question on the sale of technology equipment 11.23 so is this awkward to assist with the community so is it like offered to families and then that money doesn't go towards

okay yeah we did that years ago yeah the iPads and the MacBooks and I'm assuming what I see outside of the parking lot is uh yeah it's right there bring a truck over foreign people keep contributing and donating so just and uh I would say um on 11.2 I'm excited to uh attend the conference this year um having never attended before I don't know what to expect I mean I expect to be busy you know learning a lot um hopefully next year we can get even more people to go I'll let uh when I get back I hope to have you know some type of report for you guys exactly how how it went and what I attended but I'll let you know we shall see but I'm excited to go and I get two

days off for work so that's great like you said hopefully we can make this a recurring thing I think you know continuing training and continuing education is important regardless of what my work here involved here otherwise so the more of that we can actually actively participate any other comments on the section 11. okay hearing none can we do a roll call please yes sir Mr Bell I need to abstain just from my own name at 11.2 uh I vote Yes for everyone else all other attendees and yes for all other items son of Mr President yes it's awesome yes thank you we are now up to other matters to come before the board as well as this business so you want me to read all the things okay are we all new business yes okay

I have a motion I moved at the board amendments meeting scheduled to move its previously scheduled public meetings from Mondays to Wednesdays to occur on the following dates uh starting with Wednesday September 28th Wednesday October 12th Wednesday October 26th Wednesday November 16th Wednesday November 30th Wednesday December 14th Wednesday January 4th that's 2023 that would be our real meeting Wednesday January 25th Wednesday February 8th Wednesday February 22nd Wednesday March 15th Wednesday March 29th Wednesday April 26th Wednesday May 17th Wednesday May 31st Wednesday June 14th Wednesday June 28th there's another down here be it further resolved that the District administration is authorized to take all action necessary to advertise and effectuate that's a use effectuate this revised meeting schedule so thank you thanks a second thank you Mrs DeFazio any discussion I'm sorry for the meetings yeah

this meeting the public board meeting we moved from Mondays to Wednesdays right and yeah every all of this all the the action they really would be Wednesdays will still be Monday so pretty much most months it'll be your first Monday will be your committee and then your second and fourth Wednesday would be the board meetings there are a couple months where there's only one I think December in April or only one meeting but every other one will be the second and fourth Wednesday of the month as now it's I believe the second and fourth Monday of the month right so we're just moving on two days back 20 years on Wednesdays but if it's ever yet because it's usually just once a month I would say if it turns out to not be that that

I think it's important for you to be here and not be worshiped the other and we would want to revisit our schedule to make sure that we're not conflicting the South outlook's existing schedule so I still think it's okay for us to move the motion with the expectation that cell Network's on the third Wednesday but if it turns out to not be that let us know and then we'll adjust any other comments questions concerned um so the committee um so Thursday the agenda goes out the [Music] we'll still keep that same Thursday or so what happens the Thursday before committee meetings everybody will get an agenda right so everybody understands what's going to be disgusting and many meetings themselves will happen on Monday and then the minutes from those meetings will be circulated to all

of them and then we'll vote on it well we would discuss it at the next order and then the following the second meeting okay so moving a lot of impact correct the whole goal here is to make sure that there's enough opportunity for people to understand digestive being discussed and deliberated but the results of those deliberations are before you're being asked to vote on things also that you don't have to review things over the weekend or how the administration does have to actually work with everybody else okay okay so uh can we have a vocal problem please yes sir yes yes Lima so I guess right yes thank you yes Miss Lucy yes yes thank you are there any other items to be addressed during new business and a couple questions just going for uh

these both pertain to back to school night and I have a couple questions a couple years ago if I recall correctly for especially at the lower levels I can only speak to what Lamont did um because rightfully so back to school night was advertised as parents only no children as it should be because it can be it's a lot with children there no doubt about it but I believe a couple years ago they had some adults in the cafeteria so that people could bring kids and drop them off and I just feel like with our community you know we have a lot of people who work and don't you know don't have child care necessarily and you can't get to back to school night who I'm sure would love to be there I think that's

something that we should definitely revisit um I don't even know who the adults were that were in there honestly I don't remember if they were staffed or if they were like NHS if it was a club I don't remember but there was someone in there and you could drop kids off and I thought that was a great idea we don't have that as um as far as I know we didn't last year and we don't again this year I think we're missing the opportunity to get some more parents into the building that way as possible the other one which I apologize to the Education Association in advance or even bringing this up uh is what why do we have half days every Thursday for every back to school night um it seems like quite a

burden on parents especially to have those have to take the schedule and you're just not getting the the instructional time that you could be getting when you're when you have think they're either five or six half days in September that feels like a lot and I don't really understand the reason for it is yeah yeah it's good for I mean it's been since I've been on the board and probably well before [Laughter] it started with parents actually complaining that if they had students at a younger level um they needed an older brother or sister to be able to help them pick up the kids and take care of them for the afternoon so then it became a discussion is it the job of the school district to really accommodate that or is that something you

know that parents need to accommodate for so that's that's where it began is because parents were complaining that well if I let my fourth grader I want the ability to have my 10th grader home at the same time so that they can pick them up they can go home and I don't have to then arrange for daycare I'll go a step further why half days at all I don't have a half day on my back to school night I work a day and then I come back that's what I was and that's what I was getting at that was my I didn't know if it was contractions it's contractual for the people who have to attend but now back to school might correctly never wrong different schools have different facts school nights so the teachers

themselves don't necessarily if if the back school nights in Smalling then the rest of the teachers in the district don't need a half day it's only in the day that they have to come back at night contractually so could we have it so that only the teachers and the school that have the back to school night absolutely that that would be something and I understand that I understand why they're kind of all or none I guess my question was why any and maybe I'm just jealous that I don't get a happy am I back this morning maybe that's it I don't know but I don't know any districts that get half days on their on their in fact last year to just put that in perspective but yeah those discussions that we went back and

forth is the school district that like are we should we get rid of all of those that instructional time just so that somebody can accommodate someone else's babysitting schedule it was a big discussion back then connected and I think again looking towards the future when we have items like this that come up where we question the wisdom of decisions made in the past it would be a perfect opportunity to Pivot towards community relations and at least develop a mechanism where we can solicit feedback from the community as we entertain you know making that judgment because and the 10 of us up here were going to do the best that we can but it's unlimited quantity the more data we can gather before we make a decision right that seems like a perfect opportunity for an

easy survey right absolutely so unless any of the members have a need to move I do not believe we need to go into executive session tonight and we have open to the public oh I apologize yes open to the public number 14. so at this time if there are any questions or comments here please approach the podium here and just jot down uh your name thank you I don't have to do my Vanna White impression really nervous so my name is Angela bradyham I have never addressed a board before but I feel the need to do so I've been sitting on this for a week now and my gut tells me I need to speak so forgive me if I get emotional because I really love children and I really really have a passion for

children with special needs so a week ago Saturday no 2020 in the spring um my daughter came home and said Bound Brook Bound Brook Board of Ed is hiring for a P3 ABA I've been an ABA educator since 2006. it's just where my passion lies I don't do gen Ed I don't really do much inclusion unless it comes from self-contained to I push for inclusion so I was um home I had been an educator like I said since 2006 my husband and I started a successful business we both no longer needed to work I was home I was bored and I missed my special ed population so when my daughter came home and said that to me I was like yes I want an interview yes I want to go for this and it ignited

so much passion within me that laid dormant from being home so I had several interviews with the special ed Department with different superintendents and I was hired so I started in September of 2020 I started in the Le Mans Annex Building I learned very quickly that something was off with my situation in the Lamont Annex Building everyone every classroom had two teachers except for mine I had 11 students with special needs and it was just me and it was hybrid that was tricky I had never done hybrid before especially with children with autism day one was our intro in the um cafeteria over here where you kind of meet everybody but when you're new and you're coming to a big District you kind of don't know who you reach out to for what I know

I have a principle of my building but I'm also special ed so therefore I believe I would reach out to Mr DeMarco and Mrs trelis and at that particular cafeteria meeting Mrs Fisher spoke up and said if you need anything always CC me on everything so I'm coming off the 2020 school year where everything was thrown into boxes and everyone went hybrid really quickly well if you know anything about special needs it's not a curriculum you build those curriculums specific to each and every child now I had 11. five of them or six of them online five of them are six of them in the classroom I forget exactly right now but I had to scrounge for materials and so I was emailing the people I was told to email that was day two of

school um I was in the classroom with my aides and I was called out by the principal to the hallway and I was dressed down immediately and told I was never to email Mr DeMarco again that this was her building and that everything fell back on her okay I'm a Rolls person if I'm a teacher I'm in my role there's administrators above me I respect it so moving forward there was a teacher in the classroom next door she has been here for 16 years she had um five children I believe and three or four adults in the room and she was a great lead for me by day two she was like why do I have this assistant teacher with these kids like why don't you have this assistant teacher I said I don't know

so I emailed the principal the principal then called me out to the hallway asked who told me to write that email that this is her school and she assigns staff accordingly this continued to such an egregious extent for the whole school year now remember I didn't I do have a privilege I didn't need to work I did this for passion and I didn't need to be treated that way and I endured a lot in those 180 days we went hybrid we came back kids decided to come off of hybrid and come to the classroom it changed the numbers so now we don't have enough room in our building so what classroom has to pack everything up and move across the street to Lamont my classroom during spring break so I pack everything up I go

build something beautiful over at Lamont and I needed to take a day off on May 17th May 18th we had a parent observation of a new student and this parent had already called the child study team several times he was a very involved parent so knowing this um whenever I would be absent that principal would bring my students back to the annex with no materials because she didn't trust the staff that I was working with knowing that my students were called back and that this new student needed consistency and that they needed to be in that classroom for the observation the next day I had emailed the principal listen can we just do it like this this is what's going on I received an email back that this principal was very taken back by the

way I addressed her I wrapped my brain with that email I showed my husband that email I showed my mentor that email I did not know what this woman was talking about when your classroom was quarantining for covet it had to go virtual well I had these special needs kids who you can't just throw a substitute in with them and expect it to be effective and have me just sit at home so I wrote at that time it was Dr Gallagher an email putting the best interest of the children first like if you ask me that was uh toes on the line email when I was fighting for those children with a superintendent and he understood what I said and allowed me to go virtual with all 11 students to teach them because that's what

was needed and that's what was effective the next morning I went back to school I got brought to the office I got dressed down again and I was told at this point to never email her my building principal ever again so now I cannot email the super uh the special education department as per my principal and I'm a rule follower I cannot email now my principal at this time this is a terrible situation so when I add all this up not to mention Bound Brook is really good with Multicultural sensitivity training and I went through a lot of it that year so when all this is happening to just me and I have to look around I felt like I was being discriminated against and I know looking at me that that sounds crazy I

know that people who look like me don't really get hurt when they say things like discrimination but I've been doing this since 2006. I have brought non-verbal verbal children to verbal I've given them sign I've reduced behaviors guys I'm really good at working with students with autism the people who were my age the people who were my co-workers cried when I left my supervisors at the time had an exit interview with me and I expressed to them I feel like there's discrimination going on I know it sounds crazy but I feel like there's discrimination and they offered at that time for me to open a case and go forward with discrimination one of the biggest things about me is I really am a reflective educator and if I open a case like that I better

be really sure that what I feel is the truth and I had to sit and think do I ever want to work again because you're opening up something big right once your name gets out there there's a chance I could never work again and I'm comfortable but I love these children so I sat on it and then the other thing was what if I'm wrong that could really affect someone's livelihood and their life and their reputation so I just sat and I sat for over a year and then the Saturday before school started my phone rang and it was Mr DeMarco from Special Services saying Angela I'm really stuck we have two classrooms that don't have a teacher it is Saturday and school starts on Thursday would you be willing to take a position and

I said what's available he said K to 2 a b a in the Lamont Annex Building or lld in a different building even feeling how I felt I'm really good at ABA that's what I know that's what I'm good at that's where I can affect the most children and create the most change so I chose that one I sat with Mrs Snell and I sat with Mr DeMarco and we said this is where we want to go moving forward why would I choose such a thing right if that's how I felt why would I choose that well there's a couple different reasons number one it's not about me and it's not about her I got a call from special services that said at least five children don't have a teacher and I'm good at it

she's not going to do my observations this year right I just have to be polite and respectful which I'm really good at I know my role I wanted to be as effective as I could be so I said yes Mr DeMarco then said I just have to clear this with Mrs Fisher I'll call you back he called me back within a couple minutes and said Mrs Fisher didn't have a problem can you start on Tuesday I thought school started Thursday I was like yup you know what yep let me go out get some school clothes got a couple notebooks so now I'm out I spent a couple hundred dollars on school clothes and notebooks excited and then I came to school for the first day and I think five minutes of me being in the

cafeteria I was pulled out of the coffee cafeteria and told this isn't going to happen and I said she doesn't want me in her building does she and he said no she doesn't and I said why not and I got a chuckle and I was like I'm a big girl you can tell me why like let me go and grow from it right and then I was told she thinks you think she's a racist and I said well I kind of do I went through this for a year I could go down a laundry list that would make you guys be like what that wasn't the point the point is for these kids right so she's not going to let me in that building would you please do the maternity route leave for the lldk

to feel like ah I don't know if I want to work I'm kind of lazy guys I don't know if I really want to work till January right but you need help I don't know the number of kids in that building but you're telling me special needs kits don't have a teacher I'll take it I'll do it I'm introduced to Mrs Clark and you can tell you can just tell with people's energy she did not want to reach out and shake my hand okay whatever I'm imagining things we're on lunch break the lunch break was like almost two hours I live 45 minutes away guys school starts in two days I need to see my classroom is it in boxes what do I have to go shopping for I need to make a list so

I drive over to Lafayette the lady at the front desk was confused clearly because this had all just happened in the morning and I said it's Miss Clark here and she said yes Miss Clark comes out and says I can't let you in the building I don't have your paperwork okay this was just from the morning it's 11 or 12 o'clock why would you have my paperwork like is no one concerned that kids start schooling 48 hours and like we don't even know if anything's unpacked so I got out to the car and I call Mr DeMarco back and I say you know what I think I'm gonna go home for today something doesn't feel right like something is off and he's like you know what maybe that would be basketball home I think you're

gonna get an email today and write that I'm like oh okay an email all right I just want to read this email from Mrs Snell because I'm a words person and I'm a little confused and just to be clear it was put on the superintendent and the board as to why I don't have this position hi Angela unfortunately there was some miscommunication with respect to the status of the hiring of leave Replacements the leave replacement positions that were discussed today are still being reviewed by the superintendent and ultimately by the Board of Education at this time we have to rescind the verbal offer of employment from this morning we apologize for any inconvenience so I go to Apple track at eight o'clock at night that very day and guess what's available leave replacement cater two

ABA teachers September 6th through November 25th so what I would like to know is why why the Board of Ed and the superintendent chose not to hire me I am fully certified I have excellent reviews you can talk to anyone in the Bound Brook School District except for that principle and asked about my character ask about how I had a classroom with a Dominican woman a Jamaican woman an Egyptian Muslim woman myself and there was another and we created such a safe space that we sat together at lunch with our masks on six feet apart and learned culture I learned Spanish I was on like level four of Duolingo I tried so hard with these students in this district and to be told no by two principles and the one wouldn't let me in the

building and have it passed off to you guys I really just want to know why you guys chose not to hire me to fill a leave position if there was no teacher because what I do know is that right now the child study team as of that Tuesday when I was here is rotating in if you know anything about students with special needs they need consistency and now the child study team's rotating in three different women however many days a week but guess what guys they all have full caseloads so at what end is going to be short is it going to be the students in the classroom and their programming or is it going to be the legality of the IEPs I can tell you the legality of the IEPs is going to win

and those students are going to be shutting the room again and they're going to lose a whole other year of learning because that's just what seems to happen if you don't make any noise so I am hurt for these children like I'll leave here and I'll be fine you know what I'm saying but those kids aren't going to be fine and in June of 2021 I shut up and I walked away because what if I was wrong and they'll just get another teacher I'm not one to make noise but my belly hurts guys noise needs to be made and you all need to know that this is what's happening in your District so you know thank you so much for coming to the meeting tonight and having The Bravery to come out pressure as you

might imagine the board of education has specific responsibilities roles that we play we're not involved with the interview with individual staff members we're really acting on the recommendation of the superintendent and administrators I never met him other than he gave an awesome um like wind us up on that first day but I never got to sit with him I was told this issue was brought to him but I can just imagine that's not what you want the day before school starts so you just get going with schools but I was never given that opportunity I was not interviewed for this position I was called at home because I'm capable and I was needed well and I will tell you one of the things that the board of education is responsible for the districts of hiring

policies processes and how that stuff actually operates into a committee that evaluates and makes recommendations and we take feedback very seriously so the first thing that I would recommend is we set up time for you to meet with our current superintendent Dr Freeman just to talk through your experience and you know see if there's anything that he can offer by way of explanation and then following that we'll have an opportunity as a body to evaluate the situation where we are and if there are any changes but I want to stress that we really as a body don't have that opportunity unless people bring issues again just want to say thank you for that and you know the courage I know I might never work again you know what I mean uh that's a really scary

thing considering how much I do really care you know I think all children I think humans should really care about all children but there's just something about that special needs population where it's like if you want to see me snap you mess with that population and that's what I feel like just happened and the parents don't know do you know what I'm saying and you guys don't know it was put on you guys at this email but I can bet you didn't know that this happened this week so like I said we'll look for Dr Freeman to follow up with you uh we have our name and information I left your email there please do um thank you very much thank you you have no other comments online any questions I'll learn anything for you

all right so now unless there are any uh any of the members need to move into a quick Obsession I don't think we have any hip cases uh to discuss and evaluate so without objection we'll Skip and second session tonight and move right to item 16.1 resolve the developer Board of Education approves the resolution as outlined in approval HIV cases under High School but there's nothing there right I apologize we're on 17. no there's nothing else so then we are up to 18.1 actually entertainment motions about the second all in favor um
