Similar notice has been posted in the Burrow Hall Realel School website and the Burrow clerk has also been notified. Miss Wigley, do roll call. >> Mrs. Baldino, >> here. >> Mr. Becker, >> present. >> Dr. Damrosio, >> present. >> Mrs. Mrs. Huck >> here. >> Mrs. McDev >> here. >> Mrs. Reed >> here. The meat and potatoes. [laughter] We have our presentations. We have two presentations tonight. And uh rest assured I will dismiss you after both presentations are done. Miss >> I'm actually going to use that mic over there because I'm not sure if it will So, welcome everybody. It is our pleasure to be here tonight to have two very special presentations. Uh, one for one of our for our group of students and one for our teacher of the year. So, we're going to start with our soccer team first. Um, these boys have had a fantastic season
um being the three P champions for MCAL. I'm not sure if that's ever been done in Bel history, but now you have set a trend because as long as I have been superintendent principal, you guys have always won the championship. So, let's keep that rolling. Um, you know, I think when you come together as a team, you know, you learn so much in sports about life in general. You learn about working together. You learn about, you know, when to pick somebody up when they're feeling down. uh you learn how to be both a gracious loser and a gracious winner. Um and I hope what you learn here you're going to continue to take with you. Um I also want to thank Coach De Benadetto for doing a fantastic job. Mr. D has been out this
for a long time. Uh he told us last year was his last year. Uh but then he he couldn't resist trying to, you know, continue to work with all of you uh to continue to see you grow and have such great success. So we're very grateful also for all Mr. D's years of of being our coach. And so at this point, we are going to present your certificates if Mr. D wants to come up. Okay. >> All right. >> Uh Gavin ATNES [applause] >> [laughter] >> Robert Booth, [applause] Russell Clayton, [applause] Axel Cole, [applause] Connor Behe, [applause] Noah Fernacola, [applause] Sebastian Galada, [applause] Patrick Healey, Connor Hughes, [applause] >> [applause] >> Max Copelan, [applause] Ryan Cosra, Gavin Martin, Patrick Olsen, [applause] Braden Salvatore, HELLO, [applause] DR. SITES, [applause] Trevor Ty, Norby Walsh, [applause] Andrew Whiting,
LET'S [applause] SEE YORK [applause] JOHNSON. [applause] AGAIN, congratulations to all of you. Thank you so much FOR YOUR HARD WORK AND FOR representing Belle. So, well, >> yeah. Oh, should I can I say something? Uh first first thing I want to do is congratulate Mrs. Frenast on being teacher of the year. [cheering] [applause] She's just just a little one as a fourth whatever you talk that she's fantastic. So good to see you in the family. Um thanks to the board for all these years of helping out. Uh Diane Quigley, thank you so much for all you do for the teams and pieces of chocolate. [laughter] Um, first, Mr. Rebecca, thank you very much for everything you've done. Appreciate it. Um, administration, of course, some of them out here, but hopefully we just keep having the
boys bring you championships every [laughter] year. This is going to work out, but uh, you've been a good luck charm so far. Appreciate that. Um, they're not here now, but Jorge and Curtis for helping to maintain the fields over all the years that we've been doing this. Um, Mr. Pringle is not here, but they took over helping with the fields after 15 years of us doing it in the heat, and they came with a robot, and so they made it nice and easy. Um, thanks to my family, Peter and John. [applause] Side note, I cut them both from this team when they were sixth graders, and they turned out just fine. [laughter] Just fine. uh my wife Patty who's really the the toughness behind me. If I don't have her, there's no me. So, thank
you very much. [applause] Um thanks to all the parents for making the drives and the practices and making sure that the guys have their stuff in their bags and their cleats and all that stuff and getting to games. Uh it's so much appreciated. Uh I I just want to especially thank the moms because again they're the backbone for you guys. Nothing against you dads, but if it's not for those ladies, uh I I I don't know what we'd do, you know. And so uh I I I used to tell the boys every day after practice, go home, hug your mom, tell your love. That's it. That's what I want you to do. And hopefully they follow through after those practices. Uh, we've already announced all these guys. Some of these guys were kindergarteners for me
way back when. So, I I can't believe Robert Booth was about the same size in kindergarten. [laughter] Um, so it it was just a great time to teach you how to be young men, be respectful, be kind. It's not about the soccer. It's about how you grow up and how you uh conduct yourself because things aren't going to get easier for you as you get older. So hopefully some little way between your parents and our teachers and our administration and what we did together um we were able to put you on that path. And if you ever ever ever needed anything 627 ranking, all you got to do is knock on the door. All right. Um, yeah. So, the team was 12 and 0 and the team has been pretty good. I mean, I didn't
really want to get into too much about the past because this was their team. But there were a bunch of boys who were on the team from last year they wanted to carry over. Some guys who came in this year who were sixth graders who have been asking me since they were third graders, I can't wait to play on the team. and they would be the bull boys and they would come to the fields and stuff and um you know it's about the program and it's about the tradition and hopefully you younger guys will carry it on but I I just want to throw a couple little things out as as I don't know if you know just how good these teams were and really it's not me you know they have to believe in
themselves I'm just there to facilitate it and try to brainwash them into thinking that they could do anything they want to do so it was really not just three championships in a row, but it was four out of the last five years. Uh, Braille boys were 59 and two over that span. >> Uh, division championships nine out of the last 10 years and a record of 70 and four. So, unbelievable stuff there. Now, before we go, there's just a few things I want to say about that last game. that last game when we went down, you know, we trailed like five times during the season. And we went down that last game and uh I told him like in soccer or any sport, it's it's that one little blip that might get you. And we
had that handball in the box, which wasn't a handball, Russell, don't worry about it. [laughter] And they wound up scoring. They were a good team. They they weren't bad at all. But it was like, how do we get out of this? So, first of all, if it isn't for our keeper, Decker Sites, [applause] we had we had a four or five minute run there where we needed you to keep us in it and they came close to putting another one in and if they do, we're not standing here having this celebration. So, thank you, Decker, for really stepping up all year. You had some great saves. A kid who's never played goalie and I he asked me, he said, "What do I do?" I said, just stop the ball. [laughter] That's all you got to
do. Um, and then as the game went on, this guy who wasn't going to play soccer again, but there was no way I was going to let a 6'1 eighth grade monster not participate. Um, so Braden Sabatello scored the tying goal in that game, but he also had two goals in the previous game, but he got that tying goal to get us back into it. And then once that happened, you could just feel everybody coming up. So Braden, a big thank you for that. [applause] Um, should we talk? I promised John I wouldn't do this. [laughter] So take a big deep breath here. So we got one guy who was part of all three years as a sixth grader. I was on the border of Cuttingham. He was so tiny and so little, but you
are not going to find a bigger heart and you're not going to find more passion. So for three years, myself and this kid talked about soccer in the hallways, soccer at lunch, and even that last year when Mrs. Folster alluded that I wasn't going to do it again, that was John's fault. John said, "You got to go back and you gota you got to do this for Patrick and the boys." So Patrick, he's seen nothing but championships. The team is 35 and one with him on the team. And uh I'm personally looking forward to seeing him up at the high school when I go up there to start doing this again. And a lot of you guys, of course, but Patrick Healey is uh as good as they come. an unbelievable leader, ice in his
veins, sigs a dog last year in one of the games where it was to the point where he played on the sideline next to me and I would just give him water as he would run by. So, so Patrick Healey, I want you to come up here for a second and my two other captains, Max and Braden, we have something for you. So, you stand right there. Not bad, right? Look at that design. >> I can't I can't wrap Christmas gifts, but this I can do. [laughter] >> All right. So, could you just open from the bottom, Patrick? >> So, you can see. So, all the boys uh have been coming down here at lunch just from the fresh and they signed this big nice post to show everybody. All three. [applause] CAN YOU turn
it around? >> But now before we go, stay up here. So this will be the last thing I promise, Miss Folster. Um, so this guy almost didn't want to play soccer either. He uh I was looking really looking forward to him doing it and then when we got to try outs, he's like, "Yeah, I don't think I can. What are you talking about?" He said, "I got football. I've got to study. I've got to do this and that. Come on, man." So I let him think about it on his own. And a few days later, a sermon in the hallway said, "I'm in." Great. You're in. This guy is as special as they come. Again, one of the biggest hearts, an unbelievable leader, by no means a guy who's going to be playing soccer in
the future. And I say that with as much love as I possibly can, but he is driven he is driven by a person just above him uh that he has emulated who is an unbelievable soccer player. you when I gave him his number last year, I put it on the ground picked it out and I just remember him, one of his friends saying,"What number did you get?" And the the first thing he said was, "I got my sister's number." He didn't say the number. He just said, "I got my sister's number." And he's taken that passion and that leadership and that uh willingness to not quit from her to here. So, now we're in the last minute or so of this soccer game [clears throat] and Patrick is coming down the side and uh hold
it right there, Patrick. And Patrick makes one of his patented passes. Now, nine times out of 10, maybe Max doesn't make contact with this and he'll be the first person to tell you, but everything just came together in the universe in that one moment. And I got to tell you, I was thinking about how to say this. It wasn't a goal that you scored. It was a moment. That's a a memory, a core memory for you. Has nothing to do with soccer, guys. This has nothing to do with soccer. It's a core memory for for this kids, for these kids. The faces, the the reactions. His mom jumped on Route 71. She jumped so high in the air. Um it was a spectacular spectacular scene. Now, when we leave games, we forget a lot of
our stuff. We forget our bags. We forget our sweatshirts. Sometimes we forget our jerseys. Sometimes we forget entire backpacks, AJ. [laughter] Sometimes we walk up the field without our shoes on. [clears throat] Axel, but I made sure that before we left that field, there was something I picked up. And all the boys sign it for you. [applause] Next number 22 soccer. >> [applause] >> All right, boys. I would like you to uh stay here for a moment so we could recognize Mrs. Bernagas and then we'll go. [applause] >> Thank you everybody. [applause] [cheering] >> Thank you Mr. All right. So, another great celebration tonight. Um, for the first time in many years or, um, to my knowledge, uh, Bel Elementary School participated in the Governor's Educator of the Year Award. This is a statewide recognition
where schools across the state go through a process to to nominate teachers who they feel should be recognized. So the governor educator of the year program includes as I said it's run by the state of New Jersey and it really is looking for teachers who are exceptionally skilled who are so dedicated to students who are experts in their field who collaborate with others not only in their own classroom but really reach out to others and they demonstrate leadership and innovation at our school. So that is the criteria for this award and just so you are aware um how we chose this recipient is that this process is really prescribed by the NJ DOE. So, as part of that process, we sent out nomination forms or the nomination process to our entire school community um to
parents at home and to our staff and parents and staff, anyone was welcome to submit a nomination. Um and so along with that, a panel of administrators, teachers, and um a couple of parents sat on our committee to review those nominations. And you know um when Mrs. Brendergast nomination came in, this is just an excerpt from the nomination uh that we received. And the nomination talked about how Mrs. Prenderdas is an extremely dedicated, energetic, and highly effective educator. She works endless hours to plan and pro prepare lessons which are differentiated to target and meet the individual needs of her students. She is the reason my son is a success story today. Not only has she helped my son, but she has used that passion to bring her knowledge and expertise to the entire Breel School
District. I have never met anyone more deserving of this recognition. So when you read something like that and when you are sitting with other educators, administrators, and parents who also recognize what an asset um Mrs. Prendergast is to our school. You know, it is very clear that that she is deserving of this. And so, we actually presented this to Mrs. Prendergast um at the community assembly. We've been doing about one a month with our entire school. Um and we wanted to kind of not reveal exactly who it was at first. And as we started to reveal the bullets, when I originally did them, it would have been a dead giveaway right away. But Mrs. Panetti is so smart and Mrs. Panetti said, "We need to reverse those bullets because we want them to narrow down
um who this person is." So certainly Mrs. Prenergast is a lifelong learner who shares her passion and enthusiasm with everyone she encounters and inspires us all to embrace learning for a lifetime. As a matter of fact, we had a meeting scheduled today to talk about reading that lasted an hour and a half. So [laughter] that passion is certainly there and I I learn so much from her every day. She helps our staff understand student data, how to really target individual needs and best ways to meet them. And she has an amazing love level of knowledge about early literacy and is so passionate about teaching young learners to develop not only into good readers but into great readers. So she started with us here at Bees in 2003. That started giving more clues and the audience
going, "Oh, I think I know who it is." and she taught first grade for many years and now serves as a reading interventionist. So we are again so lucky to have Mrs. Prrenergast as a veteran teacher on our on our team here. She does such great work and being that this is our first experience in the governor's educator of the year program, we could not have had picked a better candidate. So we have a couple of things for you today. [applause] THIS HAS NOT [cheering] FORMALLY ARRIVED YET, but you will have a reserved parking spot. The sign is being made right now. So, this will be out there wherever you want. You can pick where you wanted to go, but you will have a reserved parking spot. And really as a you know momento we
had this made up for you of course in the shape of a book just to recognize your accomplishment and and everything that you've contributed here. So thank you so much. Please come on up. [applause] Oh my gosh. Thank you guys. Thank you so much. I don't know if this is on. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Oh my gosh. All right. Thank you everyone so much. Oh my goodness. I'm I'm very overwhelmed and I have been ever since the assembly. Um, congratulations to the boys. I I'm so proud of them and I see so many first grade rock stars that I had in there, too. So, I'm so proud of them, too. And I love seeing how much they've grown. I can't believe it. I'm so proud of them. Congrats to Mr. D, too. So proud of
you as well. Um, oh my gosh. Thank you to the board of education. So, oh my goodness. Thank you for this recognition. Um, it's such an honor to receive this award. Um, I I have no words. I I'm so so proud of all the work that all the teachers do day in and day out. Um, working so hard. Um, I'm so proud of all the parents. U, Bellea is an amazing community. Growing up here myself, it means so much to be working here, too. Um, I uh I love this community so much, like I said, and without the parents, without the teachers, without the administration. Thank you, Mrs. Folstra. Thank you so much. Um, we couldn't be doing what we do every day. And, um, everybody works so hard day in and day out and
the kids work so hard. So, thank you you guys and all the all the students of the school. Uh, thank you to my parents. Thank you so much for all your support. And, [applause] YOU KNOW, LISTENING TO ME talk about school all the time and same with my family, my my husband, my boys. Thank you so much. I'm literally talking about school all the time and and um I appreciate you always listening to me. Um thank you, like I said, to all my teachers and my friends. I I um I'm so appreciative. I really am so appreciative. Thank you all so much. This is amazing. So, um thank you so much. I'm really I can't believe it. >> [applause] >> Thank you. >> That is awesome stuff. That's why we live in Belle. >> Congratulations.
That that description is what everybody would have said. >> Congratulations, boys. You guys are champions. >> Everybody can go home. [applause] Unless you want to hear the greeting before [laughter] >> I didn't look. [laughter] >> That's okay. >> I thought I did first. I was a little I was a little worried, but then you got >> Marty. Merry Christmas. >> Yeah, I'll take >> Hi, guys. Tell them tell them we're going to close the door and then they have to stay for the rest of the meeting. Even I don't know why. But it actually came from different >> now. I know she's amazing. >> And then you get the Keep going. >> I don't know. I There's I think application opens up January 5th. >> Her sister. >> I know. >> Michelle and I started
like teacher. She's like, I looked you up and now like friends. And then her sister had more >> I mean she was first grade teacher when >> Yeah. No, I remember >> weirdly enough on this first [laughter] when they were >> I'll just write none >> and there's no correspondences. >> No, there's no correspondence. That brings us to committee reports. U Mr. Vitali is not here >> and we did not come. >> No, we didn't. >> No, >> Dr. I missed the meeting but there nothing of import. >> The reorganization meeting I I mean we have our our their reorganization meeting is before ours. So, >> I thought it was >> it's it's I think it's the week before hours. >> The week before. >> No, it can't be the day before. >> It's already
>> It's the day before the day before. >> So, the Thursday >> I mean, I would like to do it again next year anyway. I don't know who the president's going to be. It's not going to be me, but I'll go to the reorganization meeting and then we'll just take it from there. >> Yeah. >> Okay. I think that's how we've done it in the past. >> Yeah. >> All right. Uh Mrs. We had a brief meeting today and we only just talked about what coming like a little bit of budget and curricular and future plans since this is our last meeting as a curricular team and if we change up our so we just kind of wrapped it up but nothing to report on everything will be covered in the acne report. >> Awesome.
We did have HR is next. We did have a human resource meeting yesterday. Uh it was Miss Pra, Miss Mcdev, Miss Huck myself. It lasted about 50 minutes, 5 to 550. There were broad stroke updates related to everything from medical leaves, from injury and maternity and sub substitute teachers. We also discussed uh part-time nurse positions and possible retirements. We discussed on a very broad term broadstroke terms 2627 budget and staffing uh and how that relates to the manquan high school tuition flat fee and adjusted tuitions uh and how that affects sections or is affected by sections. Uh we also spoke about the juggling of the different current sections K through 8 and uh thoughts and ideas that'll go into that for 2627. And we concluded it with a a brief discussion on tuition reimbursement programs
that we pretty much settled up for administrative level positions. That is it. Any questions? All right. Uh HR goes to Mr. Waltman policy. >> Sure. Uh policy met on Monday. Uh we had three main three main items. Uh following the feedback last night or last meeting from Mr. Man and and from some of the board members, uh we did rework the wording on the regulation uh 23:30 for homework. Uh switching from all homework to just homework. You have the verb which is in front of you. Um it's a little bit more flexible now. That was kind of the main focus especially recognizing that there are differentiations even within students within fifth and eighth grade in terms of homework that they may have because of formative assessment data uh different differentiated student assignments, schedule changes and
just unforeseen circumstances. So uh this is a policy that is uh in spirit that the LMS should be used for uh homework required assignments long-term projects. We understand that there's lots of circumstances to be considered there. Um, and for parents, uh, you know, work with your teacher as usual. If you're not seeing what you're expecting to see in Google Classroom, uh, try to work with them first and then if necessary, uh, escalate it to the administration uh, where they can, uh, review that further. We also talked uh about the advanced math grading. Um, I don't know if that came up. >> It did. We I was I She said you were going to talk about the policy. So, how we landed as a curriculum committee, we were doing um I know Miss Praon as I
sent an email on it um last week, she had reached out to all the setting districts. I know that because then I was asked what man's policy was. [laughter] So, she I knew she was doing going to all her setting districts and I knew superintendent was asking us and we were discussing that. So, we're still in like the factf finding comparison of what is happening across the board and even at the high school to prepare them. But I know that she took it carefully when I we get to my report. Yeah. >> Oh, we did, of course. >> So, we talked about that and uh as of right now, there's no change to policy, but we're standing by. It needs to be codified somewhere. Uh and then in terms of uh school lunch budget controls,
um this pulse adjustment external information um from our vendor. And uh while the systems do have an ability to allow parents to set a daily or a weekly spending limit, um the way that's implemented, Belle, currently is that actually has to be manually entered. >> Oops. Hi. >> Uh for a student and um so we want to kind of gauge like what what the lift is for it. And if it's if it's not an automatic thing, there's obviously a a task and and we might want to limit how many times a family can do that. Uh there's also concern about how much would it interrupt the flow of the lunch line. Um maybe it's just a one time maybe it's a onetime thing though and the kids learn. So we we just want to know.
So we'll we'll put together administration will put together some questions that'll be sent out uh just so we can understand >> who's interested in this. Is it a big percentage? Is it going to be a big lift? Um and then we'll continue to investigate from there. And uh that is all. >> That will be interesting. >> Any questions? Anyone? All right. Also, >> thank you, Mr. Walton. >> Uh, Miss Reed, >> I don't have a formal community uh relations report tonight. We've had a lot going on over the holidays. Um, so I'll have a formal report from all of our uh community partners in January. >> Thank you, Miss Fre. >> No problem. >> And Miss Pster, that brings us to the administrative report. >> Sure. So, you know, as we know, Dece Oh, I
forgot to get Maria her certificate. Um hello you'll [laughter] see um so yes very busy time of year um the PTO event started kicked off the month with the book fair and the giving tree. Uh this week we are in a spirit week with our countdown to our break uh with everything from hats and socks to flannels and ending up with pajamas and crazy sweaters. So um you know it's it's been very festive here. We had a wonderful holiday concert last evening. Uh both our choir and band students performed beautifully. Uh ended with a nice little sing along and those students will repeat that concert for our students on Monday the 22nd. Um as we look ahead a little bit, we are really starting to look at budgeting for 2627. Um and I've had some
preliminary discussions with both HR and instruction and program. Um, we have our mid-year budget review at the county on January 6th. So, uh, Mrs. Quickley and I will be attending that. Um, as far as the, um, grading part that the weighted grades for students in advanced math, uh, I have put a survey out to each of the sending district superintendent. Um, even among the sending districts, there are some differences. So, you know, I think we have to really look at what everyone's doing. um but also develop you know our own rationale about because there are what we're finding is there are differences some districts um add the points but only for purposes of recognition when it comes time to do something like um choose a validictorian let's say for the eighth grade but they don't
add the points to the report card other districts do add the points right onto the report card so I think you know we have to give it some thought um and and determine really what is best for us. I think you know we do want our students who are taking advanced courses to be recognized for that level of rigor. Um so you know we we just have to decide which is the right right approach to use for that. So and then we have to also think about what does that mean for our students in the sixth and seventh grade advanced courses as well. So as we gather information you know I think what we need to do is is start with a rationale first. What is our philosophy and then make our decision you know
from there. So that is still um also a work in progress. Um and as I did follow up with our food service even since our meeting on Monday. I'm going to meet with Mrs. Cry again tomorrow. She has some additional updates. So we're continuing to work through that. Um you know I I expressed that we were going to take next steps. I you know was going to give her some input into the questions. So we are meeting again tomorrow morning. So that is moving along too. >> Okay. >> I just want to wish everybody a very happy holiday and a great break. It's going to I know it seems like it's taking forever to get here in some ways but still right around the corner. Um, but you know, I hope everybody enjoys the break
and has some time to relax and unwind and come back for 2026. [laughter] >> 2026. >> Okay. >> All right. Thank you, Miss Pra. Any questions? >> It's unique that there's different policies with that. >> Yeah. You know, and it's in like like I said, it's it's interesting to see, you know, different, right? And so we we'll and we will codify it. >> What does the manquan do? >> Yeah, that's what I was >> manquan. Well, at the elementary school has great ads. >> Oh, I know they do. And because I mean unless they change. So >> they do. Yeah. >> Yeah. At the elementary level where students are advanced courses, they do not put the grade on the report card. They only use it on the other side for for recognition. You know the
one thing that we were also talking about is you know when our students do apply to themies right we recognize that that's a pretty competitive process so if you don't put it and they only look at that number grade they only look at the subject they say math doesn't matter >> right exactly they don't look at right which course you're taking right so you know you could have a you know a 90 and a very advanced course or a 95 in the grade level course and the 95 is going to get you more points than the 90 in the advanced course. So that's another >> aren't you largely competing against your own school though in those things because it's >> for the first round. Yeah, there's a secondary there's pool after that >> and and
look you know like that >> I see what you're saying but I think that's a pretty that's a pretty small that's not moving the chain much. It's because it's it's well it's it's that's a that's a what's the percentage of math and English? It's like 2020 and then the the test is the majority of the uh of what they get. Good >> team between the four classes per seventh and eighth grade year is 15 points between >> so it's 1570 is the exam, right? >> Yeah. You know and and you know at the high school level, right? I I'm not exactly sure what Man Squan does, but they probably get more weighted grades for honors and >> AP. Your report card says what your actual grade is, but your final grade, you get a bump
