evening. Your presence is greatly appreciated. There has been adequate notice of this meeting provided by the board of education in the February 27, 2025 notice in the Asbury Park Press and the co-star setting forth the date, time, and location of this meeting. Similar notice has been posted in the Barrow Hall, the Briel School website, and the Barrow clerk has been notified. Mrs. Present. Mr. Baker present. Dr. Roio here. Mrs. H here. Mrs. McDe here. Mrs. Mr. Here. Good to see here. Here. All right. If we could stand for the flag, please. Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you. Can I get a motion to approve the uh May 14, 2025 meeting

agenda? Second. Yes. Mr. Becker. Yes. Yes. Yes. Mrs. McDe. Yes. Mr. Vitality. Mrs. Walsh. Mr. Yes. Thank you. There are no presentations this evening. Uh which brings us to visitor business. Visitors are permitted to go comment on agenda items only at this time. He just asked that there is no mic that you approach. Oh, okay. Very tiny. For children, there are none. Which brings us to uh correspondences. I understand we do have one this evening. Thank you, Mrs. Farart. Dear members of the board of education, I want to express my heartfelt thanks for the beautiful retirement dedication and the thoughtful retirement clock. Your kindness and recognition means so much to me as I close this chapter of my career. The dedication was truly touching and the clock will serve as a cherished reminder of the

wonderful community I've been privileged to serve. I am deeply grateful for your support and generosity with warmest appreciation. Wonderful. Miss Carheart was uh fundamental in my home growing up uh with my kids. So uh she is greatly appreciated as well. All right, that brings us to committee reports uh district operations. Uh Dave, anything representative? A lot of awards given out for athletics, which is the usual for high school. Um actually one one note that they they had a a senior who won the state championship for Shock. What was impressive competing in the national might have happened already, but it was their graduation. um next year they next year is their first full year where they're now implementing their international bachelor program uh for the high school. So they have 15 students that have signed up

to be part of that track. So that they've been working on that a number of years. They're excited to get that going. Uh the only other thing I wanted to mention because I think it might help us is they're in the process of getting out there um one of their board goals was with technology and implementing their AI policy. So that that's I don't think that's been submitted yet officially for first review, but once that's out, that's something that we can take a look at and it'll make it a lot easier for us to to structure ours once we're ready to do that. Any questions, comments? Awesome. Thank you, Dr. Dean Broio. Uh Miss Walsh, curriculum and uh program. Yes, we met on this last week before school went out on June 17th. Some people

were in person and some people were virtual. Um we had Miss Pulra and Mrs. Pearson. We had our board president, Mr. Becker and Mrs. Ree as well as myself. The first um item was the report of a very successful end of year. Lots of events and special days like heel dates, battle the blazers, the end of the year celebrations and um the administration thanked everyone's cooperation in making end of the year very positive and productive and they were very appreciative. The next item was the generous donation of $20,000 that will be used towards the Chromebook replacement from the BEF. Um then they also reported that there was a great discussion and meeting future goals and initiatives planning um with administration and the BEF the day before our meeting on the 16th on the school website.

Now, all the summer parent information is live and shooting out at you as soon as you log on to make sure you see those great resources for parents and how they can engage their students with learning. There's even some mental health. Um, the summer supply list is already there, already printed and ready to go. Um, and I love the ticker. I think it's like 70 days to summer. When I click on it, I'm like, "Oh, boy." Um, so it's very well done. Glad that's up and running. During our meeting, we had an update from the math program selection process and how they were pilot piloting the reveal math program and they're being that allows them to dissect the program and like look at the materials a lot closer. Um, but the committee did want to

have one more presentation. So, they looked at into math and those are kind of their two favorites at this time. So, the administration is working closely with that committee to really see what's the best fit for them. final quotes and the big decision. Um, uh, another topic was the awesome summer enrichment offerings. Bees is running an art and STEM as a combined program. Mrs. Rosen is also offering summer music lessons. The extended school year program will begin July 7th and run to July to August 7th at 8 for 8 in the morning till 10:30. And in addition, they're going to have a very successful supplemental reading program support continue for their intervention students that receive that. And then they wrapped up the end of the school year with a ton of extra professional development days.

That's what they do when the kids leave the half days. They spent um many hours focusing on all the transitions of all the assignments that are realigned, curriculum work, participation for all the things to get ready for QAC next year, which is their state monitoring. Some people attended crisis prevention inter uh training and there was some lead naturally training and some dibbles training for certain staff. They were getting ahead for next year. Does anybody have any questions? Very thorough as always. Oh, sorry. I have one quick question. What um what is the deadline for choosing the math program or is there no deadline? you did make a selection since so we met on those last half days we pulled the committee together again um and we decided to go with into math for one year

it's an HMH program when we sat and compared it to reveal um some people felt it was a good transition from go math to into math they were somewhat similar and so it wouldn't be a total shift for teachers However, there's a lot of um advantages in the program just in terms of gathering assessment data. It will put students in groups. It will identify the standards where the students um did not show proficiency and then it actually makes recommendations for which lessons to go back and redo with each group. So, uh Reveal also had that, but the teachers felt that into math did it a little bit better. Um so we are going to pilot that for K to 5. We got one-year licenses. Okay. Um and we are going to go all in K

to 5 and uh we will begin training with that on August 28th. Uh but that was what the committee felt um most confident with once they had time to kind of digest and look things over and um but both of them we felt were strong but the teachers felt a little bit better about using math. Great. That's awesome. I think it was a good move to go on. Yeah. You know, it's you know, it's it's it's tricky now with the licenses and, you know, it's such a financial commitment year in and year out. So, right out of the gate, you know, you don't want to go, you know, with like a six-year license and sometimes even a three-year license is a huge financial commitment. But the disadvantage is that you've got to reup every year.

So I think next year what we'll really look at as we get to, you know, December or so, we have to start to build the budget. You know, look at if we're very happy with the program, look at a three-year license to see what kind of dividends it would pay us over the long term. Um, you know, but that's so it's still, you know, always ongoing. We're always trying to see uh where we can can make the most of our resources. Um, so we'll do a one year for now and then by December we'll be looking at the budget overall and trying to make some other decisions. So great. Is there future training? Like I know sometimes when you get in the series and the program in like in October, November, you're like, "Oh my

goodness, does they allow for more ongoing training?" Yes, they do. They will. Um, there is defin they have a lot of resources right on their site, but we could also have them do virtual or in-person PD. Um, so you know we do have money obviously set aside for professional development and since it involve everybody K5 it will be a big focus for everybody teaching that. Thank you Miss Pchra. Thank you again Miss Walsh. Uh there was not a human resource meeting this month but there will be one school year. Uh Mr. Walton policy. Yes. Uh just briefly um the policy committee met on May 29th. um so almost a month ago and we are putting forward 13 policies tonight. These are policies that were either previously approved um or ones that should have been mandate

or that were mandated and should have been uh approved. Um so this is the first trunch um that we're going to work through this summer of policies that are either supposed to be in effect or or um were approved and are not in effect. So um that that's all I have to say. They cover basically from board member reg uh resation removal through uh teacher evaluations. Um so there's 13 of those policies. Any questions? All right. Uh Mrs. Reef is not here this evening. Does anybody have any community relation tidbits or information they'd like to relay? Summer wreck is starting right next week. Monday. Um, there's so many summer activities. I can't even keep my T letter straight. But yeah, there are a lot like Tetris. I know the boys baseball team won the championship.

Yes, I was there so good there. I was I was like one. It was a great game. Two great teams going at it for sure. It was great. Nanis one versus Belle. Yep. Bel was down by a run and we came back. Awesome. Was great. Hey Kirk, before we move on, I have one question for Ted. Yes. Um, on B four, um, I looked at the attachment. What What is Andy's what is the retainer? Um, because it only calls out the hourly rate for things not covered by the retainer, but what is the retainer for the for the year? Thank you. Thank you. [Music] Okay. Okay. Great. Thank you. Okay. Uh, moving along, that gets us to the administrative report, Mr. Sure. So, I think our our committees have hit most of what was happening

since last month. Um, again, just a very positive end to the school year. Um it was really uh bittersweet to see this eighth grade group graduate. Um as I said in my speech, if you ask anybody about this particular eighth grade class, they always say how kind they are to each other. Um how nice they are, how easy they are to work with, how appreciative they are of of everyone's efforts. So, you know, we are certainly going to miss this eighth grade group and and wish them all the best as they go on to high school. Um, and then we did finish out the year with some time uh dedicated to transitions of teachers changing positions. Um, as Mrs. Walsh talked about, doing uh work in preparation for CUSAC next year. There still is some

curricular work to be done. um and really, you know, making sure all of our things were kind of wrapped up and things in order. Um we will obviously the 12 month staff will be here this summer making preparations for September. Um and all of that is also very well underway. Uh we have some scheduling details to iron out movingly now dropping the kids into the schedule um this summer and um just getting our usual renewals done as of July 1. Um we changed our uh process for teacher orders this year was much more efficient. The teachers have already received their orders before we even were out of school. So all of that is behind us. Um, so we're looking forward to a a good summer. Um, and again, just making sure that we are ready

for September. Any questions or concerns? Anyone? I also uh there were uh some HIV reports in the package. Uh, which brings us next. Can I have a question? Yes, please. I'm Miss Bolster. This is our first year with a a new um administration and and new discipline discipline uh policies. Just wanted to um ask your opinion on how that's gone. Uh if there's any anticipated changes. Sure. So I think uh Mrs. Spanetti has done a very good job of you know uh building something where there is consistency where there are very uh specific um infractions with consequences. I think the recordkeeping is is a lot cleaner and a lot clearer. Um I will say that we do have fewer HIVs this year overall compared to last year. Uh and again this is you know the

first year where we've had a very uh well organized code of conduct. So we will meet again this summer um to to look at that and and see if there are changes that we recommend and that we'd like to make. Um but I think that you know Mrs. Metti has done a really great job of you know meeting with kids seeing um disciplinary infractions first as an opportunity to learn. um and then you know a very welllaid out you know escalation of consequences uh if necessary. So, we will revisit that again this summer. Um, see if there are things that we missed, things we want to change. But I definitely feel like this year in ter terms of a code of conduct being implemented, um, it was uh much clearer um, and communicated more effectively

and probably applied more consistently by having that in place this year. Thank you. And we've been doing that online reporting thing that we that's been all no kinks with that. Yeah, we we our reports in on time and everything is good as far as that goes. We will do the HIV self assessment. I believe that's due like October for this year. Um so we'll take a look at that. Um and yeah, I think and again, you know, there are certain things that have even continued to take place like guidance counselors pushing into classes, you know, seeking opportunities to really have conversations, pulling small groups when kids are having issues and intervening. Um so, you know, Mrs. Caldwell and Mrs. O'Reilly do a really good job of, you know, recognizing where those kind of difficulties are

um and making sure that they uh intervene and pull kids and pull groups and see students as necessary to try to keep everybody, you know, on track and um doing everyone's part to keep the climate here very positive. Great. Awesome. Thank you. Uh that brings us to action items. All the items below are upon the recommendation of the superintendent and I miss Walsh. Will you move curriculum program? Sure. I can make a motion to uh items A1 through A9. Second. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Mr. Vitali, can you please move district operations? Um, under dis district district operations, I'd like to move uh motion items B1 through B5, please. Second. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Mr. Walton, please. Policy. Sure. I'd like to motion the board approves the following policies on for first reading under C1. Second.

All yours. Sarah because he said yes. Yep. All right. Yes. Yes. All right. And then u madame vice president, human resources, please. I would like to make a motion that the board of education approves the following items. Uh D1 through D. Whoa. Is it 22? Okay. D22. Right there. Yes. Yes. Yes. And I just would like to say at this point we are fully staffed for September. So thank you all for your cooperation and um very excited about the new staff members who will be joining us in September. Thank you. Um that brings us to visitors business where visitors are permitted to comment on agenda and non-aggenda items. At this time we just ask you please approach Mike if any. And there appears to be none. Which brings us to the most important part of

the meeting. Mr. Vitali, payment of the bills. Of course, I'd like to make a motion that the board of education authorizes payment of the following June 2025 bills list and that the secretary is authorized to draw warrants of the treasurer in the amount of 1,726,18029. Second. Yes. Yes. Yes. Right. That brings us to the board secretary certification which is there each and every month by our own Diane Quigley. Uh, and we will have an executive session this evening. There will be no actions taken, but I ask if we could move. I'd like to make a motion to go into executive session, please. Second. Okay. So, I So, at this time, we do ask those uh visiting to exit so we can have executive session. Thank you.
