001good evening everyone and thank you for joining us this evening for our board meeting there has been adequate notice of this meeting provided by the board of education january 13 2022 notice the co-star setting forth the date time and place for this meeting similar notice has been posted in the town hall gabrielle's school website and the girl clerk has been notified mr baker this is jones president dr lavalva here this is mcdevitt here mr valenzuela here this is me here mr vitale yeah one patient [Music] and if someone can make a motion to approve the minutes i'll make emotions second [Music] and now we have um a presentation i'm going to ask this lovely educator from joining um it is our honor to be recognizing uh jeanne lohman as a special teacher a gifted and
002talented teacher a gender teacher a teacher that is just extraordinary in our school she's been with us since 2007. and is leaving us you know this year uh unfortunately last week on jean's last day we had a celebration for her here in this very room but that same day june's mom passed and i called her and told her all the nice things that teachers had said and she had called me the beginning of this week to say i'd really like to be at the board meeting because this board of education has done so much for her and her career here supporting things that we need to do her professional development her her goals that she always set for herself every year and she really appreciates everything the board did for her and for our teachers
003here in our school she was also happy that her sister her daughter and her husband neil are with us tonight to celebrate this great night uh during coven the teachers came up with another way of celebrating retirement with me at the beach and so there's talk that we're going to have another fun celebration because we're not ready to let jean go uh gene it's been admirable and we talked about this at our graduation the work that you've done with children the dedication that you did to this profession your love and your passion never went unnoticed um you even talked virtually which we thought was an omen's job way beyond what any teacher could do and you did it with fourth and fifth grade admirably the parents got to see you every day as well as
004the kids and what you did at home was just amazing but what you have done over the last years that you've been here gene has taught at almost every single grade level and you know i think your mom is very proud because her mom was a kindergarten teacher her mom was an educator and very often we've been interviewing for gene's position and others and every once in a while some of the candidates that were interviewing said my father or my mother has been my greatest influence and jean would say that you know she followed she saw her mother's life and said i want to be just like my mom and gene i think you are because when i read the obituary which was written by you i could tell and the family what was said
005about your mom is why you are the great person that you are and i know she's very proud of you but to choose the career that your mother chose just says so much about you and so the board just wants to thank you for being a part of our school district you were in jackson but we love you better than they do from 2007 to 22. and we just want you to have this clock that no one ever uses anymore everything is digital but we just love this clock and it just says a hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was what sort of house i lived in what kind of car i drove but the world is definitely a better place because i was important in the life of
006the child [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] still loving what i do i know that anyone i've touched any of those children i've touched they're in my heart too it's it's not just me giving it's everything i've gotten back so i really appreciate it thank you so much [Music] and gene didn't have many board meetings but her family has not and usually after presentations we tell our guests that um if you want to stay for the entirety of this board meeting because they really are excited um you may but i said i know you want to go home to your family and enjoy your time and family again so important so thank you for being with us tonight [Music] matt is not with us tonight she left her vacation caleb was an occupational therapist for
007us for over 10 years she worked here four days a week and at love led schools and again uh aileen matt with outstanding occupational therapists and um she gave someone it's a great career she always says it was a great career and then unfortunately for lean um in september she had a very bad fall and it was because of dogs knocked her over and she needed surgery on both knees so her life was over 180 where here she was the occupational therapist and um she never returned to it back to us until around mid-march the surgery and everything took a toll on her she did not see herself leaving either but when she came back she had difficulty still you know still in therapy but she was you know every month every week when we
008talked it was always like i just want to get back i just want to get back and found it difficult and that's why she made the decision that you know i've had my time here i've loved brielle so much um but i think she needs to take care of her health and herself and felt that this was the right time to retire so we're looking for her replacement too but aileen matt i asked her you know come to any board meeting when you're ready and she is a little on the shy side but i said if you want to come back and do it publicly the board would love to say their financial advice to you too so if she does want to come back i will certainly let you know some of you do
009vote for me but um i'm going to do that so we want to recognize her too so thank you and at this time visitors business comment on agenda items only at this time any correspondence yes we had a beautiful card [Music] thanking the board of education so much for awarding me the leadership and citizenship award i am honored and blessed for your kindness thank you and we'll move on to committee reports on district operations certain things um i i anticipate that i've been meeting the same identity and i'll save a little bit of time on the next one too um i was traveling that route was unable to attend that meeting so i will catch up at the next meeting and if there's anything you heard about um and human resources joe we met with
010charleston and went over the writing joint agenda [Laughter] and administrative report yes there's no way to report for the month of june and my administrative report is really um thank you to everyone for being at our graduation it's hard to believe that that was just over a week ago it was beautiful it was a nightlife tonight outside the community really loved the graduation this was an amazing class we graduated i talked and you could watch it on youtube um about all the great things that have happened tour like i kind of give a summary about everything that's happened to us over the years and when you just see the awards children get the accomplishments of this class it just says so much about you know our teachers our children and this board of ed and
011i thought it was a wonderful celebration i think everyone agreed the awards that you give out from the board to the community are more than generous and our school year ended it's a tough june but our ending was excellent with field days for everybody um all the things that we had planned to end the school year worked out very well and you know you were afraid that we were gonna have to cancel things but nothing got cancelled whether those worked in our favor and um it was just a wonderful school year this year so thank you thank you anyone have any comments or questions and so we'll move on to action items so we'll begin with curriculum and programs cards [Music] [Applause] do you have a second i'll send that mr becker yes this is
012jones yes dr laval this is mcdevitt yes mr melinda this week yes mr bike yes and next we have district operations ted um [Music] outside one it looks like they're going to start the work on august 1st do we know how long you're working right now um we know probably won't be ready for the start of school we're going to start off with first um if you want to go down there the room is almost 100 uh so we track the room they come in august 1st and it's hard for them to say when it will be ready because they don't know what they're going to find when they start taking up the carpeting and find out why we have you know a bump running down the middle of the library so without having the
